RESUMO

PURPOSE: Endobronchial metastases (EBM) are defined as bronchoscopically visible lesions histopathologically identical to extrapulmonary tumors. We summarized the literature on endobronchial metastasis of colorectal cancer and give a brief review. METHOD: We present a rare case with an episode mistaken for sarcoidosis and unexpectedly identified as colon cancer by bronchoscopic biopsy. A 53-year-old man with dry cough and dyspnea had diffuse micro lung nodules and lymphadenopathy on CT and PET/CT. He was diagnosed with sarcoidosis and took steroid therapy, but the symptoms could not be alleviated. Bronchoscopy was suggested. He was finally identified with colon cancer by bronchoscopic biopsy, which was confirmed by endoscopic biopsy. We summarise the clinical manifestations, imaging, prognosis of EMB of colorectal cancer. RESULT: EBM are rare. Colorectal cancer is common in EBM and the frequency is increasing. CONCLUSION: EBM should be distinguished from primary lung cancer, sarcoidosis.

RESUMO

Agricultural land is the most basic input factor for agricultural production and an essential component of terrestrial ecosystems, which plays a vital role in achieving carbon neutrality. Giving full play to the carbon-neutral contribution of agricultural land is a crucial part of China's economic transformation and green development. It incorporates carbon and pollution emissions from agricultural land use into the unexpected outputs of the Green and Low-carbon Utilization Efficiency of Agricultural Land (GLUEAL) evaluation system. The study utilized several advanced analytical tools, including the super-efficient Slacks-Based Measure (SBM) model, Exploratory Spatial-Temporal Data Analysis (ESTDA) method, Geodetector, and Geographically and Temporally Weighted Regression (GTWR) model. The objective was to examine the spatial-temporal evolution of GLUEAL and identify the factors that influenced it in all 31 provinces of China from 2005 to 2020. The results show that: (1) The overall spatial-temporal evolution of GLUEAL showed an increasing trend, but the disparity between provinces and regions became wider. (2) Most provinces have not yet made significant spatial and temporal jumps. They have high spatial cohesion with specific "path-dependent" characteristics. (3) The Geodetector results reveal that the Number of Rural Labor Force with Higher Education (NRLFHE) and Technology Support for Agriculture (TSA) have insufficient explanatory power on average for GLUEAL. Agricultural Economic Development Level (AEDL), Urbanization Level (UL), Multiple Crop Index (MCI), Planting Structure (PS), Degree of Crop Damage (DCD), Financial support for agriculture (FSA), and Agricultural mechanization level (AML) had stronger explanatory power on average for GLUEAL and were important factors influencing GLUEAL levels. (4) The average influence of AEDL, UL, FSA, and AML on GLUEAL changed from negative to positive. The average influence of MCI and DCD on GLUEAL was negative, and the average influence of PS on GLUEAL changed from positive to negative. This study provides a comprehensive description of the spatial and temporal evolution of GLUEAL in China. It reveals the key factors influencing GLUEAL and analyzes their spatial variations and impact patterns. These findings offer robust evidence for government policymakers to formulate policy measures for sustainable agricultural development and optimized resource allocation, promoting the transformation of agricultural land towards green and low-carbon practices and advancing the achievement of sustainable development goals.

RESUMO

Numerous studies have indicated an important function of microRNAs (miRs) in breast cancer (BC) progression, oncogenesis and metastasis. However, the function of miR-3677, which has been revealed to be upregulated in BC [The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) data], has not been investigated to date. In the present study, miR-3677 was revealed to be upregulated in BC as determined using TCGA. miR-3677 was significantly upregulated in BC tissues and cell lines compared with those noted in adjacent non-cancerous tissues and primary normal breast cells (P<0.05). The overexpression of miR-3677 promoted the cell proliferation, migration and invasion of BC cells. Using bioinformatics algorithms and luciferase assays, a novel target gene for miR-3677, namely transducin-like enhancer of Split3 (TLE3), was identified. Silencing of TLE3 in miR-3677-transfected BC cells suppressed their proliferation and migration. An inverse correlation was observed between miR-3677 and TLE3 expression levels in human BC tissues. In conclusion, the present study demonstrated that miR-3677 promoted BC cell proliferation, migration and invasion by inhibiting TLE3 expression, which provided a novel mechanism and a promising therapeutic target for patients with BC.

RESUMO

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of the miR-301a/PTEN pathway in cervical cancer. miR-301a and PTEN expression were measured by quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) in tissues samples and HeLa cells. PTEN protein level was determined by Western blotting. Dual reporter luciferase assay was performed to validate PTEN as a direct target of miR-301a. The gain- and loss-of function assay was performed by miR-301a overexpression and silencing. Cell proliferation was monitored by cell counting Kit-8 (CCK-8). Cell apoptosis was quantitated by flow cytometry. SPSS was used to analyze the significant difference in the treatments. miR-301a demonstrated a significantly higher expression in cervical carcinoma tissues compared with the paired non-carcinoma tissues ( n = 12), while PTEN expression was found to be significantly lower in cervical carcinoma tissues than their paired non-carcinoma tissues ( n = 12). In addition, PTEN was identified as the direct target of miR-301a. Moreover, overexpression of miR-301a significantly promoted HeLa cells proliferation and anti-apoptosis which had a reverse pattern after PTEN overexpression. Our results confirm PTEN as a direct target of miR-301a in HeLa cells and suggest that miR-301a/PTEN pathway contributes to the development and progression of cervical cancer.

RESUMO

AIM: To explore the application of intraoperative neurological monitoring in residual thyroidectomy 5-15 days after thyroid cancer operation and the influence on postoperative serum thyroglobulin (Tg), recurrent laryngeal nerve and function of parathyroid glands. METHODS: Material of patients receiving thyroid surgery from January 2010 to December 2016 was retrospectively analyzed. Cases meeting with standards were enrolled for analysis and the patients were divided into neurological monitoring group and non-neurological monitoring group in line with the use of neurological monitoring during the operation. Recurrent laryngeal nerve-injured hoarseness, hypoparathyroidism and concentration of serum Tg before and after the surgery were collected and analyzed. RESULTS: Four-hundred and thirty-five patients met with standards, among which 227 from neurological monitoring group and 208 from non-neurological monitoring group. Temporary hoarseness rate of non-neurological monitoring group and neurological monitoring group was 8.67% and 2.2%. Permanent hoarseness rate of non-neurological monitoring group and neurological monitoring group was 1.92% and 0.44%. Temporary hypoparathyroidism rate of non-neurological monitoring group and neurological monitoring group was 18.75% and 7.48%. Permanent hypoparathyroidism rate of non-neurological monitoring group and neurological monitoring group was 1.92% and 0.88%. Average Tg concentration 1 month after the surgery in non-neurological monitoring group and neurological monitoring group was 2.82 and 1.37 ng/mL, respectively. Rate of average Tg concentration less than 1 ng/mL 1 month after the surgery in non-neurological monitoring group and neurological monitoring group was 45.06% and 67.4%. CONCLUSION: Intraoperative neurological monitoring can be adopted in residual thyroidectomy in postoperative 5-15 days after primary thyroid cancer surgery, as to reduce incidence rate of recurrent laryngeal nerve injury and hypoparathyroidism and to enhance thorough removal of thyroid tissues and cancer tissues.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study is to explore the correlation between serum dipeptidyl peptidase IV (DPPIV) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) at its various disease states, analyze its applications in the prediction and diagnosis of COPD and test the possibility of DPPIV as the serologic marker for COPD screening. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Samples from 74 patients (42 cases with acute exacerbation of COPD or acute exacerbation COPD (AECOPD) and 32 cases with stable COPD) and 29 control subjects were collected in this study. Those patients with AECOPD were classified as COPD remission group if their clinical symptoms relieved after nonintravenous or oral hormone therapy for 7 ± 3 days. DPPIV concentration was measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, and the difference in serum concentration of DPPIV was compared among different groups. The correlation between DPPIV concentration and age, sex or smoking history was analyzed, and the diagnostic value of DPPIV was evaluated by receiver-operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis. RESULTS: Serum DPPIV concentration was significantly lower in all COPD groups as compared with that in healthy control group (P < 0.001). Serum DPPIV concentration in AECOPD group was increased after treatment (P < 0.001). There was no significant correlation between DPPIV concentration and age, sex or smoking history (P > 0.05). ROC analysis indicated that serum DPPIV concentration in all groups showed a good diagnostic accuracy, especially in stable COPD and AECOPD groups. The area under the ROC curve values were 0.901 and 0.906, respectively, with a high specificity of 0.931 for both groups and a high sensitivity of 0.75 for stable COPD and 0.875 for AECOPD. CONCLUSIONS: Serum DPPIV concentration in patients with COPD is decreased significantly, and there is no correlation between serum DPPIV concentration and sex or age. Serum DPPIV not only is an independent predictive factor, but also of high value as a good serologic marker for the diagnosis of COPD.

RESUMO

Lung cancer is the major cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide, thus developing effective methods for its early diagnosis is urgently needed. In recent years, microRNAs (miRNAs, miR) have been reported to play important roles in carcinogenesis and have become potential biomarkers for cancer diagnosis and treatment. Molecular beacon (MB) technology is a universal technology to detect DNA/RNA expression in living cells. As a natural polymers, chitosan (CS) nanoparticles could be used as a carrier for safe delivery of nucleic acid. In this study, we developed a probe using nanoparticles of miR-155 MB self assembled with CS (CS-miR-155 MB) to image the expression of miR-155 in cancer cells. Hybridization assay showed that the locked nucleic acid (LAN) modified miR-155 MB could target miR-155 effectively and sensitively. The miR-155 MB self-assembly with CS nanoparticles formed stable complexes at the proper weight ratio. The CS nanoparticles showed higher fluorescence intensity and transfection efficiency than the lipid-based formulation transfection agent by confocal microscopy and flow cytometry analysis. The CS-MB complexes were found to be easily synthesized and exhibited strong enzymatic stability, efficient cellular uptake, high target selectivity and biocompatibility. The CS-MB complexes can also be applied in other cancers just by simply changing for a targeted miRNA highly expressed in those cancer cells. Therefore, it is a promising vehicle used for detecting miRNA expression in living cells.

RESUMO

In searching for environmentally benign insecticides with high activity, low toxicity and low residue, two series of novel anthranilic diamide containing methyl ether and isopropyl ether group were designed and synthesized. All of the compounds were characterized by (1)H NMR spectroscopy, (13)C NMR spectroscopy and elemental analysis. The single crystal structure of 19j was determined by X-ray diffraction. The insecticidal activities of the new compounds were evaluated. The results showed that some compounds exhibited excellent insecticidal activities against Lepidoptera pests. Among this series, compound, 18l showed 100 % larvicidal activity against Mythimna separate Walker, Plutella xylostella Linnaeus and Laphygma exigua Hubner at the test concentration, which was equal to the available chlorantraniliprole.

RESUMO

Glycyrrhetinic acid (GA) is an active component of licorice root that has long been used as a herbal medicine for the treatment of peptic ulcer, hepatitis, and pulmonary and skin diseases in Asia and Europe. In this study, we analyzed the effect of GA extracted from Glycyrrhiza uralensis Fisch. on the expression of Toll-like receptors (TLRs) that play key roles in regulating the innate immune response against invading pathogens. Stimulation of Ana-1 murine macrophages with GA induced a significant dose-dependent expression of TLR-4, and its mRNA expression that increased from 3-h post-treatment was approximately fivefold over the level in the mock-treated cells. No endotoxin contamination contributed to the GA-induced TLR-4 expression, because polymyxin B treatment did not alter the upregulated expression of TLR-4 in GA-treated cells. Several molecules, such as myeloid differentiation factor 88, interferon-ß, and interleukin-6, which are involved in the TLR-4 downstream signaling pathway, were upregulated significantly in response to GA stimulation. Our findings demonstrate that GA is able to induce the expression of TLR-4 and activate its downstream signaling pathway.
