RESUMO

According to NASA's plans, a human travel to the Moon is planned by the end of 2025 with the Artemis II mission, and humans should land on the Moon again in 2026. Exposure to space radiation is one of the main risks for the crew members; while for these short missions the doses from galactic cosmic rays would be relatively low, the possible occurrence of an intense Solar Particle Event (SPE) represents a major concern, especially considering that in 2025 the Sun activity will be at its peak. Quantifying the amount and the effects of such exposure is therefore crucial, to identify shielding conditions that allow respecting the dose limits established by the various space agencies. By exploiting an interface between the BIANCA biophysical model and the FLUKA Monte Carlo radiation transport code, in this work we implemented a male and a female voxel phantom and we calculated absorbed doses and Gy-Eq doses in the various tissues/organs, as well as effective doses, following exposure to the August 1972 SPE, the most intense event of the modern era. The calculations were performed for different values of Al-shielding; a 10 g/cm2 Al shielding was found to be sufficient to respect the organ dose limits for 30-days missions. A detailed comparison between male and female doses was then carried out, also considering that the Artemis II crew will include a woman. The results showed that female doses tend to be higher than male doses, especially with light shielding. This should be taken into account in mission design, also considering that, in a typical lunar mission, up to 15% of time may be spent in extra-vehicular activities, and thus with light shielding. More generally, this work outlines the importance of performing separate calculations for male and female astronauts when dealing with radiation doses and effects. .

INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVES: The 2021 European Society of Cardiology guidelines on cardiovascular disease (CVD) prevention introduced the more accurate SCORE2 risk model as a replacement for the earlier SCORE, which is still used in primary care software in Portugal. Our objective is to determine whether the difference between risk assessment using SCORE and SCORE2, in the same patient population, is statistically significant. METHODS: A total of 1642 patients aged 40-65 without previous CVD, from the medical records of two Family Health Units, were included in this cross-sectional study. SCORE and SCORE2 were calculated using the variables gender, age, smoking status, lipid profile and systolic blood pressure. A statistical analysis was performed on the results. RESULTS: Using SCORE, 98% of the patients were in the low-moderate risk categories and 2% in the high or very high risk categories. When using SCORE2, the corresponding percentages were 55% and 45%, respectively. Reclassification with SCORE2 into higher categories was more often observed in younger (under 50 years of age) and male patients. With SCORE, 38.61% of patients were within the LDL-C target range; this figure fell to 20.28% with SCORE2. These differences are statistically significant (p<0.0001). CONCLUSION: Our findings show that a significant number of patients in this cohort who were classified through SCORE at lower risk levels were reclassified into higher risk categories with SCORE2. Similarly, the number of patients within the LDL-C target range for LDL-C was also lower using SCORE2.

Tubulointerstitial fibrosis is the common pathological substrate for many etiologies leading to chronic kidney disease. Although perturbations in the circadian rhythm have been associated with renal disease, the role of the molecular clock in the pathogenesis of fibrosis remains incompletely understood. We investigated the relationship between the molecular clock and renal damage in experimental models of injury and fibrosis (unilateral ureteral obstruction, folic acid, and adenine nephrotoxicity), using genetically modified mice with selective deficiencies of the clock components Bmal1, Clock, and Cry We found that the molecular clock pathway was enriched in damaged tubular epithelial cells with marked metabolic alterations. In human tubular epithelial cells, TGFß significantly altered the expression of clock components. Although Clock played a role in the macrophage-mediated inflammatory response, the combined absence of Cry1 and Cry2 was critical for the recruitment of neutrophils, correlating with a worsening of fibrosis and with a major shift in the expression of metabolism-related genes. These results support that renal damage disrupts the kidney peripheral molecular clock, which in turn promotes metabolic derangement linked to inflammatory and fibrotic responses.

The development of new drugs through studies of candidate molecules is a complex undertaking; however, computational or in silico approaches aimed at optimizing molecules with greater development potential are being utilized for predictions of pharmacokinetic properties such as absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion (ADME) as well as toxicological parameters. The objective of this study was to examine in silico and in vivo pharmacokinetic and toxicological properties of the chemical constituents present in the essential oil of Croton heliotropiifolius Kunth leaves. The following Pubchem platform as well as Software SwissADME and PreADMET software were employed for in silico studies while micronucleus (MN) testing for in vivo determination of mutagenicity, using Swiss adult male Mus musculus mice. In silico findings demonstrated that all chemical constituents presented (1) high oral absorption (2) medium cellular permeability and (3) high blood brain permeability. As for toxicity, these chemical constituents exhibited low to medium risk of occurrence of cytotoxicity. Regarding in vivo evaluation, peripheral blood samples obtained from animals tested with the oil showed no significant differences in number of MN compared to negative controls. Data indicate that further investigations are necessary to corroborate the findings of this study. Our data suggest that essential oil extracted from Croton heliotropiifolius Kunth leaves may serve as a candidate for new drug development.

BACKGROUND: Anal squamous cell carcinoma (ASCC) is an infrequent tumor whose treatment has not changed since the 1970s. The aim of this study is the identification of biomarkers allowing personalized treatments and improvement of therapeutic outcomes. METHODS: Forty-six paraffin tumor samples from ASCC patients were analyzed by whole-exome sequencing. Copy number variants (CNVs) were identified and their relation to disease-free survival (DFS) was studied and validated in an independent retrospective cohort of 101 ASCC patients from the Multidisciplinary Spanish Digestive Cancer Group (GEMCAD). GEMCAD cohort proteomics allowed assessing the biological features of these tumors. RESULTS: On the discovery cohort, the median age was 61 years old, 50% were males, stages I/II/III: 3 (7%)/16 (35%)/27 (58%), respectively, median DFS was 33 months, and overall survival was 45 months. Twenty-nine genes whose duplication was related to DFS were identified. The most representative was duplications of the CYP2D locus, including CYP2D6, CYP2D7P, and CYP2D8P genes. Patients with CYP2D6 CNV had worse DFS at 5 years than those with two CYP2D6 copies (21% vs. 84%; p < .0002, hazard ratio [HR], 5.8; 95% confidence interval [CI], 2.7-24.9). In the GEMCAD validation cohort, patients with CYP2D6 CNV also had worse DFS at 5 years (56% vs. 87%; p = .02, HR = 3.6; 95% CI, 1.1-5.7). Mitochondria and mitochondrial cell-cycle proteins were overexpressed in patients with CYP2D6 CNV. CONCLUSIONS: Tumor CYP2D6 CNV identified patients with a significantly worse DFS at 5 years among localized ASCC patients treated with 5-fluorouracil, mitomycin C, and radiotherapy. Proteomics pointed out mitochondria and mitochondrial cell-cycle genes as possible therapeutic targets for these high-risk patients. PLAIN LANGUAGE SUMMARY: Anal squamous cell carcinoma is an infrequent tumor whose treatment has not been changed since the 1970s. However, disease-free survival in late staged tumors is between 40% and 70%. The presence of an alteration in the number of copies of CYP2D6 gene is a biomarker of worse disease-free survival. The analysis of the proteins in these high-risk patients pointed out mitochondria and mitochondrial cell-cycle genes as possible therapeutic targets. Therefore, the determination of the number of copies of CYP2D6 allows the identification of anal squamous carcinoma patients with a high-risk of relapse that could be redirected to a clinical trial. Additionally, this study may be useful to suggest new treatment strategies to increase current therapy efficacy.

Introducción: Las fracturas del acetábulo constituyen una afección traumática frecuente en el servicio de urgencia. Objetivo: Evaluar la evolución de los pacientes con fracturas de la pared posterior del acetábulo después del manejo quirúrgico. Método: Se realizó un estudio cuasiexperimental en 32 pacientes con fracturas de la pared posterior del acetábulo, intervenidos quirúrgicamente en el Servicio de Ortopedia y Traumatología del Hospital "Calixto García". Se utilizaron métodos de estadística descriptiva e inferencial. Resultados: Predominaron el grupo de 40 a 49 años, el sexo masculino, la fractura tipo ii y, en la etiología, el accidente de tránsito. La técnica de osteosíntesis con placa de reconstrucción más tornillos interfragmentarios se utilizó en la mayoría de los casos. La principal complicación fue la infección de la herida quirúrgica. El 81,2 % de los pacientes evolucionó satisfactoriamente. Conclusiones: Después del tratamiento quirúrgico, las fracturas de la pared posterior del acetábulo evolucionan de forma satisfactoria. La técnica de osteosíntesis con placa de reconstrucción más tornillos interfragmentarios mostró mejores resultados que la de tornillos interfragmentarios solamente.


Introduction: Fractures of the acetabulum are a frequent traumatic condition in the emergency service. Objective: To evaluate the evolution of patients with fractures of the posterior wall of the acetabulum after surgical management. Method: A quasi-experimental study was conducted in 32 patients with fractures of the posterior wall of the acetabulum, whom were surgically operated in the Orthopedics and Traumatology Service of "Calixto García" Hospital. Descriptive and inferential statistical methods were used. Results: The group of 40 to 49 years, the male sex, the type II fracture and, in the etiology, traffic accidents predominated. The osteosynthesis technique with reconstruction plate plus interfragmentary screws was used in most cases. The main complication was surgical wound infection. 81.2 % of patients progressed satisfactorily. Conclusions: After surgical treatment, fractures of the posterior wall of the acetabulum evolve satisfactorily. The osteosynthesis technique with reconstruction plate plus interfragmentary screws showed better results than that of interfragmentary screws alone.

Long-term human space missions such as a future journey to Mars could be characterized by several hazards, among which radiation is one the highest-priority problems for astronaut health. In this work, exploiting a pre-existing interface between the BIANCA biophysical model and the FLUKA Monte Carlo transport code, a study was performed to calculate astronaut absorbed doses and equivalent doses following GCR exposure under different shielding conditions. More specifically, the interface with BIANCA allowed us to calculate both the RBE for cell survival, which is related to non-cancer effects, and that for chromosome aberrations, related to the induction of stochastic effects, including cancer. The results were then compared with cancer and non-cancer astronaut dose limits. Concerning the stochastic effects, the equivalent doses calculated by multiplying the absorbed dose by the RBE for chromosome aberrations ("high-dose method") were similar to those calculated using the Q-values recommended by ICRP. For a 650-day mission at solar minimum (representative of a possible Mars mission scenario), the obtained values are always lower than the career limit recommended by ICRP (1 Sv), but higher than the limit of 600 mSv recently adopted by NASA. The comparison with the JAXA limits is more complex, since they are age and sex dependent. Concerning the deterministic limits, even for a 650-day mission at solar minimum, the values obtained by multiplying the absorbed dose by the RBE for cell survival are largely below the limits established by the various space agencies. Following this work, BIANCA, interfaced with an MC transport code such as FLUKA, can now predict RBE values for cell death and chromosome aberrations following GCR exposure. More generally, both at solar minimum and at solar maximum, shielding of 10 g/cm2 Al seems to be a better choice than 20 g/cm2 for astronaut protection against GCR.

Immunotherapy based on anti-PD1 antibodies has improved the outcome of advanced melanoma. However, prediction of response to immunotherapy remains an unmet need in the field. Tumor PD-L1 expression, mutational burden, gene profiles and microbiome profiles have been proposed as potential markers but are not used in clinical practice. Probabilistic graphical models and classificatory algorithms were used to classify melanoma tumor samples from a TCGA cohort. A cohort of patients with advanced melanoma treated with PD-1 inhibitors was also analyzed. We established that gene expression data can be grouped in two different layers of information: immune and molecular. In the TCGA, the molecular classification provided information on processes such as epidermis development and keratinization, melanogenesis, and extracellular space and membrane. The immune layer classification was able to distinguish between responders and non-responders to immunotherapy in an independent series of patients with advanced melanoma treated with PD-1 inhibitors. We established that the immune information is independent than molecular features of the tumors in melanoma TCGA cohort, and an immune classification of these tumors was established. This immune classification was capable to determine what patients are going to respond to immunotherapy in a new cohort of patients with advanced melanoma treated with PD-1 inhibitors Therefore, this immune signature could be useful to the clinicians to identify those patients who will respond to immunotherapy.

Trypanosoma cruzi is a protozoan transmitted by the insect Triatoma infestans, popularly known as kissing bug. This protozoan causes the Chagas disease, a Neglected Tropical Disease. This study aimed to investigate, through DFT method and B3LYP hybrid functional, the physicochemical, pharmacokinetic, and pharmacodynamic properties of the alkaloids present in the leaves of the species Pilocarpus microphyllus (jaborandi) as a potential inhibitory activity on the protease sterol 14α-demethylase of T. cruzi associated with the techniques of molecular docking, molecular dynamics, MM-PBSA and ADMET predictions. The molecules of isopilosine, epiisopiloturine, epiisopilosine, and pilosine showed up the lowest binding energies by molecular docking, good human intestinal absorption, low penetration in the blood-brain barrier, antiprotozoal and anticarcinogenic activities in ADMET studies. It has been observed a better binding affinity of the sterol 14α-demethylase protease with isopilosine in molecular dynamics and MM-PBSA studies, which indicates it as a potential drug candidate for Chagas disease.Communicated by Ramaswamy H. In previous work, we reported on the design of biodegradable rhein-loaded PLGA microparticles for the treatment of osteoarthritis. Considering that a formulation designed for intra-articular administration must meet sterility requirements to guarantee its safety, in this study the effect of gamma radiation sterilization on these microparticles was evaluated. The size, morphology, and surface characteristics of the microparticles and the encapsulation efficiency of rhein were not affected by the sterilization process. Although DSC and PXRD analyses suggested otherwise, rhein release profiles were not altered by gamma radiation. The release of rhein from the microparticles was fitted to a Gompertz model. In conclusion, the results of this study suggest that gamma radiation is a suitable method for the sterilization of rhein-loaded PLGA microparticles to enable their intra-articular administration in order to provide a therapeutic solution to patients suffering from chronic joint diseases.

Objective.The main objective of this work consists of applying, for the first time, the BIANCA (BIophysical ANalysis of Cell death and chromosome Aberrations) biophysical model to the RBE calculation for C-ion cancer patients, and comparing the outcomes with those obtained by the LEM I model, which is applied in clinics. Indeed, the continuous development of heavy-ion cancer therapy requires modelling of biological effects of ion beams on tumours and normal tissues. The relative biological effectiveness (RBE) of heavy ions is higher than that of protons, with a significant variation along the beam path. Therefore, it requires a precise modelling, especially for the pencil-beam scanning technique. Currently, two radiobiological models, LEM I and MKM, are in use for heavy ions in scanned pencil-beam facilities.Approach.Utilizing an interface with the FLUKA Particle Therapy Tool, BIANCA was applied to re-calculate the RBE-weighted dose distribution for carbon-ion treatment of three patients (chordoma, head-and-neck and prostate) previously irradiated at CNAO, where radiobiological optimization was based on LEM I. The predictions obtained by BIANCA were based either on chordoma cell survival (RBEsurv), or on dicentric aberrations in peripheral blood lymphocytes (RBEab), which are indicators of late normal tissue damage, including secondary tumours. The simulation outcomes were then compared with those provided by LEM I.Main results.While in the target and in the entrance channel BIANCA predictions were lower than those obtained by LEM I, the two models provided very similar results in the considered OAR. The observed differences betweenRBEsurvandRBEab(which were also dependent on fractional dose and LET) suggest that in normal tissues the information on cell survival should be integrated by information more closely related to the induction of late damage, such as chromosome aberrations.Significance.This work showed that BIANCA is suitable for treatment plan optimization in ion-beam therapy, especially considering that it can predict both cell survival and chromosome aberrations and has previously shown good agreement with carbon-ion experimental data.

Space research seems to be object of a renewed interest, also considering that human missions to the Moon, and possibly Mars, are being planned. Among the risks affecting such missions, astronauts' exposure to space radiation is a major concern. In this work, the question of the evaluation of biological damage by Galactic Cosmic Rays (GCR) was addressed by a biophysical model called BIophysical ANalysis of Cell death and chromosome Aberrations (BIANCA), which simulates the induction of cell death and chromosome aberrations by different ions. While previously BIANCA has been validated for calculating cell death along hadrontherapy beams up to oxygen, herein the approach was extended up to Fe ions. Specifically, experimental survival curves available in literature for V79 cells irradiated by Si-, Ne-, Ar- and Fe-ions were reproduced, and a reference radiobiological database describing V79 cell survival as a function of ion type (1 ⩽Z⩽ 26), energy and dose was constructed. Analogous databases were generated for Chinese hamster ovary hamster cells and human skin fibroblasts, finding good agreement between simulations and data. Concerning chromosome aberrations, which are regarded as radiation risk biomarkers, dicentric data in human lymphocytes irradiated by heavy ions up to iron were reproduced, and a radiobiological database allowing calculation of lymphocyte dicentric yields as a function of dose, ion type (1 ⩽Z⩽ 26) and energy was constructed. Following interface between BIANCA and the FLUKA Monte Carlo transport code, a feasibility study was performed to calculate the relative biological effectiveness (RBE) of different GCR spectrum components, for both dicentrics and cell death. Fe-ions, although representing only 10% of the total absorbed dose, were found to be responsible for about 35%-40% of the RBE-weighted dose. Interestingly, the RBE for dicentrics was higher than that for cell survival. More generally, this work shows that BIANCA can calculate RBE values for cell death and lymphocyte dicentrics not only for ion therapy, but also for space radiation.

We performed a biological evaluation of antileishmanial activity, in silico ADME-Tox profile, and molecular docking of riparins A-F. The antileishmanial activity was evaluated in Leishmania major promastigotes, whereas the cytotoxic activity was tested on murine macrophages. Computational parameters were predicted by in silico analysis. Molecular docking was performed with 18 L. major molecular targets. Riparins, especially RipC and RipE, showed cytotoxic activity in vitro toward L. major promastigotes and a high selectivity index. Riparins showed small differences in their physicochemical properties, such as polarity and aqueous solubility. LogP was an important parameter for the differences in the antileishmanial activity between the molecules. In molecular docking, the ligands displayed Ki < 1 µM for LmNMT and LmLEI. Significant molecular interactions were observed with residues from the active site and adjacent regions of such enzymes. Thus, riparins have the potential for application in antileishmanial therapy.

BACKGROUND: Pancreatic cancer remains one of the most devastating malignancies due to the absence of techniques for early diagnosis and the lack of target therapeutic options for advanced disease. Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) generates high throughput and valuable genetic information when evaluating circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA); however clinical utility of liquid biopsy in pancreatic cancer has not been demonstrated yet. The aim of this study was to evaluate whether results from a Next Generation Sequencing panel on plasma samples from pancreatic cancer patients could have a clinical significance. METHODS: From December 2016 to January 2020, plasma samples from 27 patients with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma at two different tertiary Spanish Hospitals underwent ctDNA testing using a commercial NGS panel of 65 genes. Clinical data were available for these patients. VarsSome Clinical software was used to analyse NGS data and establish pathogenicity. RESULTS: Evaluable NGS results were obtained in 18 out of the 27 plasma samples. Somatic pathogenic mutations were found mainly in KRAS, BRCA2, FLT3 and HNF1A, genes. Pathogenic mutations were detected in 50% of plasma samples from patient diagnosed at stages III-IV samples. FLT3 mutations were observed in 22.22% of samples which constitute a novel result in the field. CONCLUSIONS: Liquid biopsy using NGS is a valuable tool but still not sensitive or specific enough to provide clinical utility in pancreatic cancer patients.

Chromosome aberrations are widely considered among the best biomarkers of radiation health risk due to their relationship with late cancer incidence. In particular, aberrations in peripheral blood lymphocytes (PBL) can be regarded as indicators of hematologic toxicity, which is a major limiting factor of radiotherapy total dose. In this framework, a radiobiological database describing the induction of PBL dicentrics as a function of ion type and energy was developed by means of the BIANCA (BIophysical ANalysis of Cell death and chromosome Aberrations) biophysical model, which has been previously applied to predict the effectiveness of therapeutic-like ion beams at killing tumour cells. This database was then read by the FLUKA Monte Carlo transport code, thus allowing us to calculate the Relative Biological Effectiveness (RBE) for dicentric induction along therapeutic C-ion beams. A comparison with previous results showed that, while in the higher-dose regions (e.g., the Spread-Out Bragg Peak, SOBP), the RBE for dicentrics was lower than that for cell survival. In the lower-dose regions (e.g., the fragmentation tail), the opposite trend was observed. This work suggests that, at least for some irradiation scenarios, calculating the biological effectiveness of a hadrontherapy beam solely based on the RBE for cell survival may lead to an underestimation of the risk of (late) damage to healthy tissues. More generally, following this work, BIANCA has gained the capability of providing RBE predictions not only for cell killing, but also for healthy tissue damage.

RESUMO

Herein, we report on the precise design of a modular fusion protein amenable to the construction of nanocapsules by nanoprecipitation. The central squid suckerin-derived peptide block provides structural stability, whereas both termini from spider silk fibroins make the protein highly soluble at physiological pH, a critical requirement for the nanoprecipitation process. With this design, nanocapsules consisting of fusion protein shells and oily cores with sizes in the range of 190-250 nm are built in a straightforward manner.

RESUMEN: El objetivo de este artículo es presentar algunas consideraciones odontológicas y un protocolo de mantención para el manejo y cuidado de cavidad oral en pacientes en ventilación mecánica invasiva (VMI) en unidades de cuidados intensivos hospitalarios. Además, presentar recomendaciones para la implementación de estas. Desde el desarrollo del COVID-19 en el mundo, los casos de VMI prolongada han aumentado y junto con ellos, se ha visibilizado las complicaciones propias de este tipo de terapia, dentro de las cuales encontramos aquellas que afectan la cavidad oral. Los centros hospitalarios normalmente cuentan con servicios dentales conformados por distintas especialidades, las cuales en un trabajo mancomunado pueden entregar herramientas y educar al personal encargado para el cuidado de la cavidad oral en estos pacientes si es que son requeridos, siendo el odontólogo el encargado de evaluar las distintas situaciones clínicas y entregar directrices para la prevención y tratamiento de patología de la cavidad oral. En este trabajo se describen los pasos a seguir para realizar una correcta higiene oral de estos pacientes y el manejo de las distintas complicaciones posibles de observar, junto con la experiencia local de cómo solucionarlos de la mejor manera. Consideramos importante que las unidades de cuidados intensivos (UCI) conozcan el rol del odontólogo y las acciones que este equipo puede aportar en el cuidado de los pacientes hospitalizados para disminuir los riesgos asociados a ventilación prolongada, basados principalmente en el manejo de la higiene oral y lesiones asociadas.


ABSTRACT: The aim of this sutudy dental considerations and an oral cavity maintenance and care protocol in patients on invasive mechanical ventilation (IMV) in hospital intensive care units. Since the development of COVID-19 in the world, cases of prolonged IMV have increased and together with them, the complications of this type of therapy have been made visible, among which we find those that affect the oral cavity. Hospital centers normally have dental services made up of different specialties, which in a joint effort can provide tools and educate the personnel in charge of the care of the oral cavity in these patients if they are required, being the dentist the one in charge of evaluating and deliver guidelines for the prevention and treatment of pathology of the oral cavity. This work describes the steps to be followed to carry out correct oral hygiene in these patients and the management of the different complications that may be observed, along with local experience on how to best solve them. We consider important that the intensive care units (ICU) get to know the role of the dentist in the hospital environment and that they become part of the care of hospitalized patients to reduce the risks associated with prolonged ventilation, based mainly on oral hygiene management and associated injuries.

Objective: Long-term survivors (LS) of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) without driver alterations, displaying an overall survival (OS) of more than 3 years, comprise around 10% of cases in several series treated with chemotherapy. There are classical prognosis factors for these cases [stage, Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG), etc.], but more data are required in the literature. In this multi-center study, we focused on LS of advanced NSCLC with OS above 36 months to perform a clinical-pathological and molecular characterization. Methods: In the first step, we conducted a clinical-pathological characterization of the patients. Afterwards, we carried out a genetic analysis by comparing LS to a sample of short-term survivors (SS) (with an OS less than 9 months). We initially used whole-genome RNA-seq to identify differentiating profiles of LS and SS, and later confirmed these with reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) for the rest of the samples. Results: A total of 94 patients were included, who were mainly men, former smokers, having adenocarcinoma (AC)-type NSCLC with an ECOG of 0-1. We obtained an initial differential transcriptome expression, displaying 5 over- and 33 under-expressed genes involved in different pathways: namely, the secretin receptor, surfactant protein, trefoil factor 1 (TFF1), serpin, Ca-channels, and Toll-like receptor (TLRs) families. Finally, RT-PCR analysis of 40 (20 LS/20 SS) samples confirmed that four genes (surfactant proteins and SFTP) were significantly down-regulated in SS compared to LS by using an analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) model: SFTPA1 (P = 0.023), SFTPA2 (P = 0.027), SFTPB (P = 0.02), and SFTPC (P = 0.047). Conclusions: We present a sequential genetic analysis of a sample of NSCLC LS with no driver alterations, obtaining a differential RNA-seq/RT-PCR profile showing an abnormal expression of SF genes.
