RESUMO
Hepatic rupture is an unusual complication of hepatic amyloidosis. We report the case of a 59-yr-old man with a subcapsular hematoma of the liver with hepatic rupture secondary to amyloidosis. The patient died during the surgery. The etiology, pathology, diagnosis, and treatment of this complication are discussed. Previously reported cases of subcapsular hematoma of the liver secondary to amyloidosis are reviewed. This knowledge and an awareness of the possible diagnosis will help to decrease the high mortality rate associated with this complication.

Four cases of costal chondrosarcoma were observed in the Thoracic Surgery Department of Nostra Señora de Aránzazu Hospital in San Sebastián. This tumour rarely occurs in the ribs and no papers concerning more than one personal case, over such a brief interval, have been reported. The diagnosis was established on the basis of clinical and radiological data in three cases and after biopsy in the fourth case. Large surgical resection allowed complete histological examination, which confirmed the diagnosis of chondrosarcoma. The tumours were classified into grade I and II according to the degree of differentiation of the tumour cells. All 4 patients were treated exclusively by surgical resection. Marlex mesh was necessary to repair the chest wall defect in 3 cases. The functional result was satisfactory. One of these patients was lost to follow-up and no signs of recurrence have been observed in the other 3 patients, although the follow-up remains relatively short (9, 8 and 7 months, respectively).

Discussion of a retrospective study in our unit of two cases of vesical tumours of mesenchymal origin, in adult patients and with different maturation behaviour. The first patient started with haematuria and after an extensive follow-up period is now free from the disease. The second patient was an accidental finding causing death in the course of the immediate postoperative.

We describe a case of sarcomatoid variant, renal adenocarcinoma in a 69-year-old woman, whose death took place four months after the diagnosis was effected. We underline the form of clinical and radiological presentation, its low frequency, poor prognosis and difficult anatomopathological diagnosis.

The present experimental study was carried out in 75 female Wistar rats. End-to-side vesicosigmoidostomy was performed in 65; the remaining 10 rats comprised the control group. Thirty-three rats were de-diverted at 1 and 2 months later. The site of the vesicosigmoid anastomosis was assessed histologically at 1, 2, and 3 months postoperatively in diverted rats, and at 1 and 2 months in de-diverted rats. Squamous metaplastic changes and variable degrees of transitional cell line neoplasm were observed in the diverted rats. Bladder changes did not regress significantly after de-diversion. No structural changes were observed at the level of the sigmoid. This experimental animal model confirms the oncogenic potential of mixing feces and urine, and shows that de-diversion does not achieve significant regression of bladder tumor lesions.
