RESUMO

Deposition of high entropy alloy FeCoNiMnCu on SS-304 was carried out by microwave energy for application in "solid oxide fuel-cell (SOFC) interconnects". The ball-milling has been performed by taking "Fe, Co, Ni, Mn, and Cu" in equal 20 wt. % of before deposited on SS-304 substrate. The deposited steel with 20% Fe 20% Co 20% Ni 20% Mn 20% Cu high entropy alloy (HEA) was exposed to thermal-exposure in the air for up to 10 weeks at 800 °C. The uniform cladding distribution of 20% Fe 20% Co 20% Ni 20% Mn 20% Cu HEA particles can be apparently observed on SS-304 substrate by utilizing Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), and Optical microscopy analysis. Homogeneity in the interfacial layer was evident by employing Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) characterization. Results have indicated that after the thermal exposure of deposited steel with 20% Fe 20% Co 20% Ni 20% Mn 20% Cu in the air for up to ten weeks at 800 °C, a "protective Cr2O3 layer", and "high-entropy spinel coating" of (Fe, Co, Ni, Mn, Cu)3O4 have been formed. During microwave cladding, the emergence of harder-phases has contributed to the raised hardness. The wear behavior after coating of 20% Fe 20% Co 20% Ni 20% Mn 20% Cu HEA on SS-304 substrate has significantly enhanced due to the strengthened wear resistance and hardness of the coatings. Findings have exhibited that the formation of (Fe, Co, Ni, Mn, Cu)3O4 phase is a potential coating material for "SOFC interconnects" applications. Moreover, the cladding of SS304 with a composition of 20% Fe, 20% Co, 20% Ni, 20% Mn, and 20% Cu has demonstrated remarkable stability under thermal expansion studies. As the findings have revealed that the composite cladding has efficiently withstand significant variations in volume when subjected to elevated temperatures for a prolonged period of time, thus, exhibiting its superior thermal stability for SOFC-interconnect applications. Furthermore, the SEM images of the cladding surface, surface hardness, and tribocorrosion behavior of the coated material have been observed to identify the 20% Fe 20% Co 20% Ni 20% Mn 20% Cu HEA coating effect on SS-304 steel-substrate.

RESUMO

G-quadruplex (G4) structures have emerged as singular therapeutic targets for cancer and neurodegeneration. Autophagy, a crucial homeostatic mechanism of the cell, is often dysregulated in neurodegenerative diseases and cancers. We used QGRS mapper to identify 470 G4 sequences in MTOR, a key negative regulator of autophagy. We sought to identify a functional context by leveraging the effect of G4-targeting ligands on MTOR G4 sequences. The effect of Bis-4,3, a G4 selective dimeric carbocyanine dye, was compared with the known G4-stabilizing activity of the porphyrin, TMPyP4 in HeLa and SHSY-5Y cells. Our results show that treatment with G4-selective ligands downregulates MTOR RNA and mTOR protein expression levels. This is the first report describing G4 motifs in MTOR. This study indicates a possible role of G4 stabilizing ligands in induction of autophagy by downregulation of mTOR levels, albeit not precluding MTOR independent pathways.

RESUMO

Cancer cells need as much as 40-times more sugar than their normal cell counterparts. This sugar demand is attained by the excessive expression of inimitable transporters on the surface of cancer cells, driven by their voracious appetite for carbohydrates. Nanotechnological advances drive research utilizing ligand-directed therapeutics and diverse carbohydrate analogs. The precise delivery of these therapeutic cargos not only mitigates toxicity associated with chemotherapy but also reduces the grim toll of mortality and morbidity among patients. This in-depth review explores the potential of these ligands in advanced cancer treatment using nanoparticles. It offers a broader perspective beyond the usual ways we deliver drugs, potentially changing the way we fight cancer.

RESUMO

Chemical modification of guar gum was done by graft copolymerization of monomer hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) using azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN) as initiator. Optimal reaction parameters were settled by varying one reaction condition and keeping the other constant. The optimum reaction conditions worked out were solvent system: binary, [H2O] = 15.00 mL, [acetone] = 5.00 mL, [HEMA] = 82.217× 10-2 mol/L, [AIBN] = 3.333 × 10-2 mol/L, reaction time = 3 h, reaction temperature = 60 °C on to 1.00 g guar gum with Pg = 1694.6 and %GE = 68,704.152. Pure guar gum polymer and grafts were analyzed by several physicochemical investigation techniques like FTIR, SEM, XRD, EDX, and swelling studies. Percent swelling of the guar gum polymer and grafts was investigated at pH 2.2, 7.0, 7.4 and 9.4 concerning time. The finest yield of Ps was recorded at pH 9.4 with time 24 h for graft copolymer. Guar gum and grafted samples were explored for the sorption of toxic dye Bismarck brown Y from the aqueous solution with respect to variable contact time, pH, temperature and dye concentration so as to investigate the stimuli responsive sorption behaviour. Graft copolymers showed better results than guar gum with percent dye uptake (Du) of 97.588 % in 24 h contact time, 35 °C temperature, 9.4 pH at 150.00 ppm dye feed concentration as compared to Guar gum which only showed 85.260 % dye uptake at alike dye fed concentration. The kinetic behaviour of the polymeric samples was evaluated by applying many adsorption isotherms and kinetic models. The value of 1/n was between 0 â†’ 1 showing that there was physisorption of the BB dye that took place on the surface of the polymers. Thermodynamics of BB Y adsorption onto hydrogels was investigated concerning the Van't Hoff equation. -∆G° values obtained from the curve proved the spontanity of the process. Within the context of adsorption efficiency, an investigation was conducted to examine the process of sorption of Bismarck brown Y dye from aqueous solutions. The graft copolymers demonstrated remarkable adsorption abilities, achieving a dye uptake (Du) of 97.588 % over a 24-h period at a temperature of 35 °C, pH level of 9.4, and a dye concentration of 150.00 ppm. The raised adsorption capacity was additionally corroborated by the application of several adsorption isotherms and kinetic models, which indicated that physisorption is the prevailing process/mechanism. Additionally, the thermodynamic research, utilising the Van't Hoff equation, validated the spontaneity of the adsorption phenomenon, as evidenced by the presence of a negative ∆G° values. The thermodynamic analysis revealed herein establishes a strong scientific foundation for the effectiveness of adsorbent composed of graft copolymers based on guar gum. The research conclude the efficiency of the guar gum based grafted copolymers for the water remediation as efficient adsorbents. The captured dye can be re-utilised and the hydrogels can be used for the same purpose in number of cycles.

RESUMO

Iron phosphide (FeP) nanoparticles have excellent properties such as fast charge transfer kinetics, high electrical conductivity, and high stability, making them a promising catalyst for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). A challenge to the wide use of iron phosphide nanomaterials for this application is the available synthesis protocols that limit control over the resulting crystalline phase of the product. In this study, we report a method for synthesizing FeP through a solution-based process. Here, we use iron oxyhydroxide (ß-FeOOH) as a cost-effective, environmentally friendly, and air-stable source of iron, along with tri-n-octylphosphine (TOP) as the phosphorus source and solvent. FeP is formed in a nanobundle morphology in the solution phase reaction at a temperature of 320 °C. The materials were characterized by pXRD and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The optimization parameters evaluated to produce the phosphorus-rich FeP phase included the reaction rate, time, amount of TOP, and reaction temperature. Mixtures of Fe2P and FeP phases were obtained at shorter reaction times and slow heating rates (4.5 °C /min), while longer reaction times and faster heating rates (18.8 °C/min) favored the formation of phosphorus-rich FeP. Overall, the reaction lever that consistently yielded FeP as the predominant crystalline phase was a fast heat rate.

RESUMO

The organic polymer known as Polypyrrole (Ppy) is synthesized when pyrrole monomers are polymerized. Excellent thermal stability, superior electrical conductivity, and environmental stability are all characteristics of Polypyrrole. Chemical oxidative polymerization was used to synthesize Ppy using Ferric chloride (FeCl3) as an oxidizing agent and surfactant CTAB in aqueous solution. Oxidant (FeCl3) to pyrrole varied in different molar ratios (2, 3, 4 and 5). It was found that increasing this ratio up to 4 increases PPy's conductivity. XRD, FTIR, and SEM were used to characterize Ppy. The conductive nature of Ppy was studied by I-V characteristics. The best conductive polymer is studied for the NH3 gas response.

RESUMO

In this investigation, microwave radiation was used alongside a combination of Ni powder, Si powder, and La2O3 (Lanthanum oxide) powder to create surface cladding on SS-304 steel. To complete the microwave cladding process, 900 W at 2.45 GHz was used for 120 s. "Response surface methodology (RSM)" was utilized to attain the optimal combination of microwave cladding process parameters. The surface hardness of the cladding samples was taken as a response. The optimal combination of microwave cladding process parameters was found to be Si (wt.%) of 19.28, a skin depth of 4.57 µm, irradiation time of 118 s, and La2O3 (wt.%) of 11 to achieve a surface hardness of 287.25 HV. Experimental surface hardness at the corresponding microwave-cladding-process parameters was found to be 279 HV. The hardness of SS-304 was improved by about 32.85% at the optimum combination of microwave cladding process parameters. The SEM and optical microscopic images showed the presence of Si, Ni, and La2O3 particles. SEM images of the "cladding layer and surface" showed the "uniform cladding layer" with "fewer dark pixels" (yielding higher homogeneity). Higher homogeneity reduced the dimensional deviation in the developed cladding surface. XRD of the cladded surface showed the presence of FeNi, Ni2Si, FeNi3, NiSi2, Ni3C, NiC, and La2O3 phases. The "wear rate and coefficient of friction" of the developed cladded surface with 69.72% Ni, 19.28% Si, and 11% La2O3 particles were found to be 0.00367 mm3/m and 0.312, respectively. "Few dark spots" were observed on the "corroded surface". These "dark spots" displayed "some corrosion (corrosion weight loss 0.49 mg)" in a "3.5 wt.% NaCl environment".

RESUMO

Electrocatalysts encapsulated by an ultrathin and semipermeable oxide layer offer a promising avenue for efficient, selective, and cost-effective production of hydrogen through photoelectrochemical water splitting. This architecture is especially attractive for Z-scheme water splitting, for which a nanoporous oxide film can be leveraged to mitigate undesired, yet kinetically facile, reactions involving redox shuttles, such as aqueous iron cations, by limiting transport of these species to catalytically active sites. In this work, molecular dynamics simulations were combined with electrochemical measurements to provide a mechanistic understanding of permeation of water and Fe(III)/Fe(II) redox shuttles through nanoporous SiO2 films. It is shown that even for SiO2 pores with a width as small as 0.8 nm, water does not experience any energy barrier for permeating into the pores due to a favorable interaction with hydrophilic silanol groups on the oxide surface. In contrast, permeation of Fe(III) and Fe(II) into microporous SiO2 pores is limited due to high energy barriers, which stem from a combination of distortion and dehydration of the second and third ion solvation shells. Our simulations and experimental results show that SiO2 coatings can effectively mitigate undesired Fe(III)/Fe(II) redox reactions at underlying electrodes by attenuating permeation of iron cations, while allowing water to permeate and thus participate in water splitting reactions. In a broader context, our study demonstrates that selectivity of solvated cations can be manipulated by controlling the pore size and surface chemistry of oxide films.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Identifying risk factors for poor outcomes can help with risk stratification and targeting of treatment. Risk factors for mortality and exacerbations have been identified in bronchiectasis but have been almost exclusively studied in European and North American populations. This study investigated the risk factors for poor outcome in a large population of bronchiectasis patients enrolled in India. METHODS: The European Multicentre Bronchiectasis Audit and Research Collaboration (EMBARC) and Respiratory Research Network of India (EMBARC-India) registry is a prospective observational study of adults with computed tomography-confirmed bronchiectasis enrolled at 31 sites across India. Baseline characteristics of patients were used to investigate associations with key clinical outcomes: mortality, severe exacerbations requiring hospital admission, overall exacerbation frequency and decline in forced expiratory volume in 1 s. RESULTS: 1018 patients with at least 12-month follow-up data were enrolled in the follow-up study. Frequent exacerbations (≥3 per year) at baseline were associated with an increased risk of mortality (hazard ratio (HR) 3.23, 95% CI 1.39-7.50), severe exacerbations (HR 2.71, 95% CI 1.92-3.83), future exacerbations (incidence rate ratio (IRR) 3.08, 95% CI 2.36-4.01) and lung function decline. Coexisting COPD, dyspnoea and current cigarette smoking were similarly associated with a worse outcome across all end-points studied. Additional predictors of mortality and severe exacerbations were increasing age and cardiovascular comorbidity. Infection with Gram-negative pathogens (predominantly Klebsiella pneumoniae) was independently associated with increased mortality (HR 3.13, 95% CI 1.62-6.06), while Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection was associated with severe exacerbations (HR 1.41, 95% CI 1.01-1.97) and overall exacerbation rate (IRR 1.47, 95% CI 1.13-1.91). CONCLUSIONS: This study identifies risk factors for morbidity and mortality among bronchiectasis patients in India. Identification of these risk factors may support treatment approaches optimised to an Asian setting.

RESUMO

This study involves the preparation of PLA/PBAT composite blend films incorporated with TiO2 and varying concentrations of cinnamon essential oil. The films were characterised for optical and mechanical properties, chemical composition, thermo-stability, surface hydrophobicity, inhibition of biofilm formation, anti-microbial efficiency against S. aureus and E. coli, and application on cheese. The thickness of the films increased with the increase in cinnamon oil concentration along with the water contact angle degree and highest UV-barrier properties with the PLA-PBAT-TiO2-7 %Cinn film. The best anti-bacterial activity was seen in the PLA-PBAT-TiO2-7 %Cinn film against S. aureus and E. coli. The cheese packed in PLA-PBAT-TiO2-7 %Cinn film has shown the least weight loss and enhanced antibacterial activity against E. coli for 12 days of storage. The use of cinnamon oil-loaded TiO2 incorporated in films showed positive effects on the shelf life, quality, and safety of a food product and has a high potential for use commercially.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Herbal preparations with low oral bioavailability have a fast first-pass metabolism in the gut and liver. To offset these effects, a method to improve absorption and, as a result, bioavailability must be devised. OBJECTIVE: The goal of this study was to design, develop, and assess the in vivo toxicity of polyherbal phytosomes for ovarian cyst therapy. METHODS: Using antisolvent and rotational evaporation procedures, phytosomes containing phosphatidylcholine and a combination of herbal extracts (Saraca asoca, Bauhinia variegata, and Commiphora mukul) were synthesized. For a blend of Saraca asoca, Bauhinia variegata, and Commiphora mukul, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), preformulation investigations, qualitative phytochemical screening, and UV spectrophotometric tests were conducted. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), zeta potential, ex vivo release, and in vivo toxicological investigations were used to examine phytosomes. RESULTS: FTIR studies suggested no changes in descriptive peaks in raw and extracted herbs, although the intensity of peaks was slightly reduced. Zeta potential values between -20.4 mV to - 29.6 mV suggested stable phytosomes with an accepted particle size range. Percentage yield and entrapment efficiency were directly correlated to the amount of phospholipid used. Ex vivo studies suggested that the phytosomes with low content of phospholipids showed good permeation profiles. There was no difference in clinical indications between the extract-loaded phytosomes group and the free extract group in in vivo toxicological or histopathological examinations. CONCLUSION: The findings of current research work suggested that the optimized phytosomes based drug delivery containing herbal extracts as bioenhancers has the potential to improve the bioavailability of hydrophobic extracts.

RESUMO

"External magnetic-field (EMF)" has been proved as an additional process parameter like voltage and current affecting the weld arc form, molten metal-flow, microstructure, and characteristics of the weld joint. This article analyzed the research work that has been done to promote EMF application in welding and discussed the recent development trends and research in the design and fabrication of EMF setup to the controlled arc welding process. It is found that even after the successful application of EMF in welding. Still, there is no mass level initiation to integrate EMF with welding machines that hinder researchers and manufacturers to accept it as a regular process parameter to control weld quality.

RESUMO

In recent days, the utilization of lightweight alloys for various applications has been increased massively. Starting from the automobile industry, aerospace industry, and even in the biomedical field, there is a need for dissimilar precise joining of steel to other light alloys (magnesium alloy, aluminum alloy, titanium alloy). However, those alloys are characterized by different melting temperatures, machinability, strength, thermal conductivity, and oxygen reactivity. Considering this welding to challenge ongoing laser welding efforts to improve laser welding quality by altering the welding techniques, modes, proper use of shielding gasses, using suitable process parameters, and even proper joint and surface preparations are discussed. The feasibility of implementing all those things in the industrial setup can be understood only after analyzing recent works. Changes in microstructure and the defects (solidification cracking, intermetallic components formation, porosity) arrived during and after laser welding of these materials are reviewed. The paper also highlights the effect of shielding gas, welding speed, laser power, defocusing position, etc. during laser welding of lightweight materials. The critical issues related to dissimilar laser welding of these combinations and some remedial measures are discussed. The purpose of this review is to emphasize and understand the recent trends of dissimilar laser welding and explore the scope of industry level applications.

RESUMO

Mold breakout is one of the significant problems in a continuous casting machine (caster). It represents one of the key areas within the steel production facilities of a steel plant. A breakout event on a caster will always cause safety hazards, high repair costs, loss of production, and shutdown of the caster for a short while. In this paper, a logic-judgment-based mold breakout prediction system has been developed for a continuous casting machine. This system developed new algorithms to detect the different sticker behaviors. With more algorithms running, each algorithm is more specialized in the other behaviors of stickers. This new logic-based breakout prediction system (BOPS) not only detects sticker breakouts but also detects breakouts that takes place due to variations in casting speed, mold level fluctuation, and taper/mold problems. This system also finds the exact location of the breakout in the mold and reduces the number of false alarms. The task of the system is to recognize a sticker and prevent a breakout. Moreover, the breakout prediction system uses an online thermal map of the mold for process visualization and assisting breakout prediction. This is done by alerting the operating staff or automatically reducing the cast speed according to the location of alarmed thermocouples, the type of steel, the tundish temperature, and the size of the cold slab width. By applying the proposed model in an actual steel plant, field application results show that it could timely detect all 13 breakouts with a detection ratio of 100%, and the frequency of false alarms was less than 0.056% times/heat. It has the additional advantage of not needing a lot of learning data, as most neural networks do. Thus, this new logical BOPS system should not only detect the sticker breakouts but also detect breakouts taking place due to variations in casting speed and mold level fluctuation.

RESUMO

Background: Despite improvement in the surgical procedure and strictly following the guidelines for mitral valve replacement (MVR), left ventricular dysfunction still occurs. Novel echocardiographic indices can predict development of LV (left ventricle) dysfunction post MVR. LV-GLS (global longitudinal strain) derived from speckle tracking echocardiography, has been proposed as a novel measure to better depict latent LV dysfunction. Methods: A total of 100 patients with severe MR (mitral regurgitation) planned for MVR were included. Speckle tracking echocardiography was performed at baseline and at follow up post MVR. ROC (Receiver operating characteristics) curve was plotted to derive the cutoff value of LV-GLS for prediction of LV dysfunction post MVR. Univariate and multi variate regression was analyzed to predict the independent predictors of LV dysfunction after MVR. Results: LV-GLS was decreased from baseline data (-19.9 vs. -17.7) in patients with LVEF <50% after MVR compared to patients with LVEF≥ 50%. Baseline value of LVESD (35.36 mm vs. 28.23 mm) and LVEDD (49.33 mm vs. 45.10 mm) were significantly higher in patients with LVEF<50% compared to LVEF ≥50% at 3 months follow up. A cutoff value of GLS -19% with sensitivity of 80.3% and specificity of 75.7% was associated in patients with LV dysfunction after MVR. In multivariate regression model GLS < -19% (OR = 21.8, CI:6.61-82.4, P=<0.001) was an independent predictor of LV dysfunction post MVR. Conclusion: A GLS value of less than -19% was demonstrated as an independent predictor of short term LV dysfunction after mitral valve surgery, LVESD ≥40 mm was also verified additional parameter to predict the LV dysfunction post MVR.

RESUMO

In the construction of steel structures, the two most common types of structural members are hot-formed and cold-formed members. This paper mainly describes the analytical and experimental research on the strength and characteristics of CFS bolted built-up sigma sections having different structural arrangements under bending. The cross-sectional dimensions for the parametric study were selected by the sizes available in the market. In this paper, ANSYS workbench software was used to perform FE modeling and observe the local, flexural, and interaction of these buckling. Then, experimental study was performed by varying the arrangement of open section beams between face-to-face and back-to-back, connected using bolts or fasteners different spacings. Further, we conducted bending tests on cold-formed steel built-up members having simple edge stiffeners in the middle. Comparing both analytical and experimental studies, the results indicate that the back-to-back connected built-up beam section provides a flexural capacity higher than the face-to-face built-up section. Moreover, increasing the bolt spacing enhanced the load-carrying capacity of back-to-back sigma section built-up beams. It has also been discovered that the flexural strength of beams is primarily determined by bolt spacing or itsposition.

RESUMO

Organotin complexes are studied as promising alternatives to the anticancer drug cisplatin. We report two monoorganotin(IV) complexes based on a dibenzyl phosphinoyldithioformate (H-DBPTF) ligand, containing either bromide (Sn-DBPTF-1) or chloride (Sn-DBPTF-2) anions. The complexes were characterized by standard analytical techniques and the structural details of these complexes were elucidated by single crystal X-ray diffraction. Sn-DBPTF-1 was cytotoxic at IC50 <10 µg mL-1 against cancer cell lines A549 (lung cancer), Aspc-1 (pancreatic cancer), OVCAR-3 (ovarian cancer), T-47D (breast cancer) and HCT116 (colon cancer), and breast epithelial stem cell line D492. The non-tumorigenic breast epithelial cell line MCF-10 was less sensitive at IC50 = 22 µg mL-1. Sn-DBPTF-2 had limited cytotoxic effect at IC50 13-37 µg mL-1. Sn-DBPTF-1 induced apoptosis and double-strand DNA breaks. Cell cycle arrest in G2 occurred in HCT116 and accumulation in G1 in Aspc-1. The results indicate that the basic effect of Sn-DBPTF-1 is to induce DNA damage, leading to apoptosis and cell cycle arrest depending on the cell line.

RESUMO

The Indian Western Himalayas (IWHs) are a world famous tourist spot, and every year millions of tourists visit this area in fossil fuel-driven vehicles. Emissions from these vehicles persistently deteriorate the pristine environment of the IWHs. Therefore, in the current study, efforts were made to assess the compromised environmental conditions of Manali, Himachal Pradesh, India that resulted from the inflow of tourists and the activities undertaken by them. This study revealed that Manali could sustainably accommodate only 0.305 M tourists/month, and this threshold was reported to be crossed in the months of April, May and June. Furthermore, to augment these findings, water and ambient air samples were collected and analyzed for the presence of elemental carbon (EC) from one of the medium tourism potential regions of Manali, i.e., the Hamta glacier. The tributary receiving water from the Hamta glacier and the ambient air of the area was observed to be contaminated with 42 ± 12 ppb and 880 ± 43 µg m-3 of EC, respectively. It was observed that the inhalation and ingestion of EC-contaminated air and water could jeopardize human health due to a high lifetime cancer risk. However, without the intervention of eco-tourism in the study area, higher environmental health effects were also speculated. The observations made in this study are expected to trigger the interests of the researchers, international scientific community and regional authorities working towards the unsustainable development of the IWHs and deteriorating environmental conditions.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The distal radial artery (dRA) approach at anatomical snuff box has gained attention of the interventional cardiologist in last few years. The procedural success rate by this novel approach depends on size of the radial artery and therefore the study was planned to study the size of distal radial artery. METHODS: Total of 1004 patients of >18 years of age undergoing coronary catheterization were included in the study. The vessel diameter was measured from media to media in the anatomical snuff box a day prior to coronary catheterization. RESULTS: The mean diameter of right radial artery at conventional access site was 2.56 ± 0.35 mm and at distal access site 2.23 ± 0.39 mm (p < 0.001). Females had significantly smaller radial artery diameter as compared to males at right conventional access site (2.42 ± 0.36 mm vs 2.60 ± 0.34 mm; p < 0.001) and distal access site (2.09 ± 0.38 mm vs 2.27 ± 0.39 mm; p < 0.001). The diameter of the right dRA was not significantly correlated with age (r2 linear = 0.002, p = 0.0475) but was positively correlated with height and weight (r2 linear = 0.076, p = <0.001 and r2 linear = 0.005, p = <0.001) and negatively correlated with BMI (r2 linear = 0.076, p = 0.519). CONCLUSIONS: This study has shown the size of right dRA 2.27 + 0.39 mm in males and 2.09 + 0.38 mm in females. Diabetes, hypertension, height and weight are important predictors of dRA diameter.

RESUMO

Atmospheric polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are in high levels in developing countries like India. However, limited measurements are inadequate for better understanding of their ambient levels and health effects. This study predicted PAHs concentrations in atmosphere and estimated their sources and health risks in India in four representative months of winter, pre-monsoon, monsoon and post-monsoon in 2015 using an updated version of the Community Multiscale Air Quality model (CMAQ). Predicted PAHs were in agreement with observations from literature. Surface 16-PAHs were highest in winter, with a peak value of 2.5 µg/m3 and population-weighted average of 0.5 µg/m3 in northern and eastern India, where biomass burning and coal combustion were chief contributors. Pre-monsoon and monsoon had lower concentrations ∼0.2 µg/m3. The incremental lifetime cancer risk (ILCR) was greater than 4E-4 in many industrial and urban areas. Exposure to PAHs resulted in 7431 excess lifetime cancer cases. Coal combustion and biomass burning were major contributors to ILCR, followed by gas and oil activities. Much higher health risks were observed in urban than in rural areas. India showed much higher levels of total PAHs and cPAHs than the U.S but moderately less than China.
