RESUMO

Since the beginning of nanoscience and nanotechnology, carbon dots (CDs) have been the foundational idea and have dominated the growth of the nano-field. CDs are an intriguing platform for utilization in biology, technology, catalysis, and other fields thanks to their numerous distinctive structural, physicochemical, and photochemical characteristics. Since several carbon dots have already been created, they have been assessed based on their synthesis process, and luminescence characteristics. Due to their biocompatibility, less toxic effects, and most significantly their fluorescent features in contrast to other carbon nanostructures, CDs have several benefits. This review focuses on the most recent advancements in the characterization, applications, and synthesis techniques used for CDs made from natural sources. It will also direct scientists in the creation of a synthesis technique for adjustable carbon dots that is more practical, effective, and environmentally benign. With low toxicity and low cost, CDs are meeting the new era's requirements for more selectivity and sensitivity in the detection and sensing of various things, such as biomaterial sensing, enzymes, chemical contamination, and temperature sensing. Its variety of properties, such as optical properties, chemiluminescence, and morphological analysis, make it a good option to use in bioimaging, drug delivery, biosensors, and cancer diagnosis.

The incidence and prevalence of melanoma are increasing globally, presenting a significant public health concern. The main genetic drivers of melanoma include BRAF, NRAS, KIT and triple wild-type (TWT) mutations. Little is known about the effects of these mutations on outcomes in terms of demographics and patient characteristics. We examined differences in melanoma mortality risk and mutation count across mutation type and patient disease profile. We extrapolated primary melanoma patient data from 14 studies via the cBioportal database. Patients were divided into demographic groups and classified according to BRAF, NRAS, KIT and TWT mutation status. Analyses included two-sample Student t -test and two-way analysis of variance tests analysis with Tukey's post hoc test. Survival outcomes were compared via Kaplan-Meier curve and Cox regression. NRAS-mutated patients exhibited decreased overall survival compared to BRAF-mutated patients. Male patients had higher mutation counts across all gene groups than females, with the fewest TWT mutations in comparison to BRAF, NRAS and KIT mutations. Males also exhibited increased mortality risk for NRAS, KIT and TWT mutations compared to BRAF mutations. An unknown primary melanoma was associated with increased mortality risk across all gene groups. NRAS-mutated acral melanoma patients had an increased mortality risk compared to NRAS-mutated cutaneous melanoma patients. Older patients had a higher mortality risk than younger patients. Patients with heavier versus lower weights had lower mortality risk, which was more pronounced for BRAF-mutated patients. These relationships highlight the importance of demographic and pathologic relationships to aid in risk assessment and personalize treatment plans.

Current investigation deals with the gel formulation of purified polyphenol loaded nanoparticles for enhanced wound healing. Polyphenols purified using column chromatography an were characterized using HPLC in fractions. Silver nanoparticles were characterization using SEM, AFM, TEM, DLS. Cytotoxic effect was checked on L929 (Mouse fibroblast cells). Bioactive loaded nanoparticles were formulated in gel and subjected for physical characterization. Excision wound wistar rat models were established to measure the wound contraction measurement, histopathological studies, and biochemical assays. Docking and Simulation studies were performed to check the binding and stability with receptors progressing the chronic wound. From the column chromatography, B fraction has shown the presence of maximum polyphenolic content and as well as the polyphenol compounds such as quercetin, rutin and tannic acid as confirmed by the HPLC. Synthesize B fraction-AgNP were found to be below 100 nm in size and spherical in shape as per the characterization. No cytotoxic effect was observed on L929 cells treated with B fraction and its nanoparticles. Formulated B fraction-AgNP gel has revealed the better stability and earlier wound contraction, i.e. before the completion of 14 days of topical treatment. Histopathology studies and collagen content has confirmed the re-epithelization in skin wounds. MD simulation revealed the stability with PI3K and AKT. This can be concluded that tobacco stem polyphenol loaded nanoparticles has potent wound healing activity that can be utilized as nano-drug delivery system for suppression of chronic wound development.Communicated by Ramaswamy H. It is now well understood that many signaling pathways are vital in carrying out and controlling essential pro-survival and pro-growth cellular functions. The NOTCH signaling pathway, a highly conserved evolutionary signaling pathway, has been thoroughly studied since the discovery of NOTCH phenotypes about 100 years ago in Drosophila melanogaster. Abnormal NOTCH signaling has been linked to the pathophysiology of several diseases, notably cancer. In tumorigenesis, NOTCH plays the role of a "double-edged sword," that is, it may act as an oncogene or as a tumor suppressor gene depending on the nature of the context. However, its involvement in several cancers and inhibition of the same provides targeted therapy for the management of cancer. The use of gamma (γ)-secretase inhibitors and monoclonal antibodies for cancer treatment involved NOTCH receptors inhibition, leading to the possibility of a targeted approach for cancer treatment. Likewise, several natural compounds, including curcumin, resveratrol, diallyl sulfide, and genistein, also play a dynamic role in the management of cancer by inhibition of NOTCH receptors. This review outlines the functions and structure of NOTCH receptors and their associated ligands with the mechanism of the signaling pathway. In addition, it also emphasizes the role of NOTCH-targeted nanomedicine in various cancer treatment strategies.

Background: Transient infantile hypertriglyceridemia (TIH) is a syndrome of hypertriglyceridemia, fatty liver, and deranged liver functions with progression to fibrosis and cirrhosis. It is an autosomal recessive disorder caused by mutations in Glycerol-3-phosphate dehydrogenase 1 gene present on Chromosome 12q12-q13, and has been reported in Israeli Arab families with high consanguinity. TIH is suspected by high serum triglyceride levels and steatosis on liver biopsy; however, diagnosis is confirmed on clinical exome sequencing. Clinical description: We present two cases of TIH belonging to the indigenous Hindu, hilly population of Himachal Pradesh in North India with no history of either consanguinity or family history. Management and outcome: The parents of both the cases were counselled regarding the disease and importance of growth and lipid level monitoring. Conclusion: Though TIH is an extremely rare entity, awareness about it is required as it is a contributor to non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in children. Any child presenting with hepatomegaly and elevated fasting triglyceride levels should be further investigated for TIH.

OBJECTIVE: Present study was to observe the therapeutic aspects of seed cake extracts of Ocimum sanctum against the oral cancer cell line with the activation of p53 apoptotic pathway. METHOD: Seed cake extracts were characterized using GC-MS analysis. Cytotoxic activity was observed on KB cells and L929 cell through MTT assay and scratch assay. Antioxidant activity on KB cells were determined using enzymatic and non enzyme content in the treated cells. Chick chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) was established to check the presence of blood vessel formation and neuvasculature pattern in the treated fertilized eggs. DNA fragmentation and gene expression studies were also determined in the treated cells to check the upregulation of apoptotic pathways. RESULTS: GC-MS analysis confirmed alkaloids, phenols, and many. The cytotoxic activity showed maximum antiproliferative potential with aqueous extract, whereas no cytotoxic effect was observed on L929 cells. The ethanolic and aqueous extract has shown a greater SI value. Scratch assay has signified that aqueous extract has a lower migration rate of KB cells. Aqueous extract showed maximum enzymatic activity and lower malondialdehyde content in cells treated with ethanolic extract. CAM model confirmed that eggs treated with aqueous extract has shown inhibition of vasculature pattern and dissolutions of blood vessels. DNA Fragmentation and Gene expression studies confirmed maximum fold in the KB cell treated with an aqueous extract of seed cake leading to activation of p53 dependent apoptotic pathway. CONCLUSION: The potent therapeutic properties of seed cake extracts have been proven, and they can be used as herbal treatments to prevent oral cancer.

Biogenic silver nanoconjugates (AgNCs), derived from medicinal plants, have been widely explored in the field of biomedicines. AgNCs for the first-time were synthesized using ethyl acetate seed extracts of Abrus precatorius and their antiproliferative and antiangiogenic efficacies were evaluated against cervical and oral carcinoma. Ultraviolet-Visible spectrophotometry, dynamic light Scattering (DLS), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were used for characterization of AgNCs. Antiproliferative activity was investigated using MTT, DNA fragmentation and in-vitro antioxidant enzyme activity assays. In-vivo chick chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) model was used to evaluate antiangiogenic activity. A total of 11 compounds were identified in both the extracts in GCMS analysis. The synthesized AgNCs were spherical shaped with an average size of 97.4 nm for AgAPE (Sox) and 64.3 nm for AgAPE (Mac). AgNCs possessed effective inhibition against Hep2C and KB cells. In Hep2C cells, AgAPE (Mac) revealed the highest SOD, catalase, GST activity and lower MDA content, whereas AgAPE (Sox) showed the highest GSH content. On the other hand, in KB cells, AgAPE (Sox) exhibited the higher SOD, GST activity, GSH content, and least MDA content, while AgAPE (Mac) displayed the highest levels of catalase activity. Docking analysis revealed maximum binding affinity of safrole and linoleic acid with selected targets. AgAPE (Sox), AgAPE (Mac) treatment profoundly reduced the thickness, branching, and sprouting of blood vessels in the chick embryos. This study indicates that A. precatorius-derived AgNCs have enhanced efficacies against cervical and oral carcinoma as well as against angiogenesis, potentially limiting tumour growth.

Abrus precatorius L. is a traditional remedy with a long history of use in medicine around the globe due to its diverse phytochemical composition and bioactivities which are of utmost significance to the scientific community. With the aim to provide new insights into the antioxidant, antiproliferative and antiangiogenic properties of A. precatorius aqueous seed extracts, different extraction methods were employed. Aqueous extract prepared by Soxhlet method APW (Sox) had higher total phenolics, flavonoids and tannin content. In DPPH assay, APW (Sox) had the maximum free radical scavenging activity. The maximum FRAP value was displayed by APW (Mac). The maximum inhibition was shown by APW (Sox) against HPV18 (Hep2C) cells and APW (Mac) against HPV18 (KB) cells. In cervical cancer (Hep2C) cells, catalase (CAT), glutathione-s-transferase (GST) activity, and glutathione (GSH) content were all highest in APW (Sox) extract, whereas APW (Mac) extract demonstrated the highest superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity and the lowest malondialdehyde (MDA) content. Similarly, in oral cancer (KB) cells, APW (Mac) extract showed the highest SOD, CAT, GST activity and GSH content whereas APW (Sox) extract showed the least MDA content. Docking studies showed that tannic acid and rutin had the highest binding affinity, while MD simulations showed that they were stable in complex with COX-2 for at least 90 ns. Promising antiangiogenic activities were observed in both APW (Sox) and APW (Mac) in a dose dependent manner. Therefore, aqueous seed extracts of A. precatorius could be considered promising candidates for anticancer and antiangiogenic drugs.Communicated by Ramaswamy H. Sarma.

Crohn's disease (CD) is a chronic inflammatory disease of the gastrointestinal tract. A clear gap in our existing CD diagnostics and current disease management approaches is the lack of highly specific biomarkers that can be used to streamline or personalize disease management. Comprehensive profiling of metabolites holds promise; however, these high-dimensional profiles need to be reduced to have relevance in the context of CD. Machine learning approaches are optimally suited to bridge this gap in knowledge by contextualizing the metabolic alterations in CD using genome-scale metabolic network reconstructions. Our work presents a framework for studying altered metabolic reactions between patients with CD and controls using publicly available transcriptomic data and existing gene-driven metabolic network reconstructions. Additionally, we apply the same methods to patient-derived ileal enteroids to explore the utility of using this experimental in vitro platform for studying CD. Furthermore, we have piloted an untargeted metabolomics approach as a proof-of-concept validation strategy in human ileal mucosal tissue. These findings suggest that in silico metabolic modeling can potentially identify pathways of clinical relevance in CD, paving the way for the future discovery of novel diagnostic biomarkers and therapeutic targets.

BACKGROUND: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic unmasked the huge deficit in healthcare resources worldwide. It highlighted the need for efficient risk stratification in management of cardiovascular emergencies. AIM: To study the applicability of the old, available and affordable nonconventional biomarkers: albumin and fibrinogen in their ability to predict angiographic severity and clinical outcomes in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS). METHODS: In this prospective, observational study, 166 consecutive patients with ACS were enrolled. Fibrinogen, albumin and their ratio were determined from serum. Patients with underlying chronic liver disease, active malignancy, autoimmune disease, active COVID-19 infection and undergoing thrombolysis were excluded. RESULTS: Mean age of the population was 60.5 ± 1.5 years, 74.1% being males. ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) was most common presentation of ACS seen in 57% patients. Fibrinogen albumin ratio (FAR) ≥ 19.2, had a sensitivity of 76.9% and specificity of 78.9 % [area under the receiver operating characteristic curves (AUROC) = 0.8, P = 0.001] to predict ≤ thrombolysis in myocardial infarction (TIMI) 1 flow in culprit artery in STEMI patients. Even in non-STEMI patients, FAR ≥ 18.85 predicted the same with 80% sensitivity and 63% specificity (AUROC = 0.715, P = 0.006). CONCLUSION: Novel biomarkers, with their high cost, lack of availability and long turn over time are impractical for real-world use. Identifying ≤ TIMI 1 flow in the culprit artery has significant impact of management and outcome. Our study has shown that readily available biomarkers like fibrinogen and albumin can help identify these high-risk patients with good accuracy. This allows risk-stratification and individualization of treatment in ACS.

Chirayata-the whole dried plant of Swertia chirayita-is an important traditional drug of Indian System of Medicines. A novel reverse-phase high performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) method has been developed for the simultaneous determination and quantification of amaroswerin, amarogentin and andrographolide in a herbal drug "Chirayata," which is oftenly adulterated/substituted with herbal drug Kalmegh. The developed method is in accordance with International Council for Harmonization guidelines and is simple, precise, accurate, rapid, reproducible and specific to determine amarogentin, amaroswerin and andrographolide. Reverse-phase column (Water's X-bridge C18, 5 µm, 4.6 mm × 250 mm) with high resolution for all marker compounds was used with binary gradient elution (methanol:water) with a flow rate of 1 mL/min and detection at 235 nm. The developed method showed good linearity (R2 > 0.999) in a relatively wider range of concentration 2.968-95.00 ppm for amarogentin, amaroswerin and 5.625-180 ppm for andrographolide. The method is important for quality control analysis of drug Chirayata.

The present study focuses on the antiproliferative activity of polyphenolic flavonoids found in defatted seeds of Azadirachta indica and Momordica charantia with the regulatory function of tumor suppressor genes inducing Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma. Polyphenolic flavonoid in extracts was characterized using chromatographic analysis and has confirmed the presence of quercetin, rutin and tannic acid in the extracts of A. indica and M. charantia. According to DPPH assay and reducing power assays, free radical scavenging was found to be high in ethanolic extract of defatted seeds. Antiproliferative efficacies of defatted seed extracts against KB cell line (mouth) were studied by MTT assay and revealed that aqueous extract of defatted seeds of M. charantia has exhibited maximum antiproliferative activity against KB cells. Antioxidant activity of defatted seed extracts were observed on treated KB cells by determining enzymatic activity (SOD, Cat, and GST) and nonenzyme content (GSH and MDA Content). Using the AutoDock tool, quercetin, rutin and tannin acid revealed that mutant p53, TWIST related protein, TGF-ß and Snail I have the best binging energy results. MD simulation was observed on best docking results between the molecule and identified flavonoid by Desmond V 5.9 package . This leads to the conclusion that bioactive extracts with antiproliferative activity, antioxidant capacity and polyphenols with binding efficacy against tumor suppressor gene regulatory function could be used as a herbal remedy.Communicated by Ramaswamy H. Abrus precatorius is a tropical medicinal plant with multiple medicinal benefits whose seeds have not yet been studied against cervical cancer. Herein, we have assessed the antioxidant and antiproliferative properties of seed extracts (ethyl acetate and 70% ethanol) prepared from Soxhlet and Maceration extraction methods against Hep2C and HeLa Cells. We observed that the APE (Sox) extract had a significantly higher total flavonoid content, APA (Mac) extract had a high total phenolic content, and APA (Sox) extract had a high total tannin content. Further, HPLC analysis of extracts revealed the presence of tannic acid and rutin. Moreover, APA (Sox) exhibited the highest free radical scavenging activity. APE (Mac) had the best antiproliferative activity against Hep2C cells, while APA (Sox) had the best antiproliferative activity against HeLa cells. In Hep2C cells, APE (Mac) extract revealed the highest SOD, catalase activity, GSH content, and the lowest MDA content, whereas APA (Mac) extract demonstrated the highest GST activity. In HeLa cells, APA (Sox) extract showed the highest SOD, GST activity, GSH content, and the least MDA content, whereas APA (Mac) extract showed the highest catalase activity. Lastly, docking results suggested maximum binding affinity of tannic acid with HER2 and GCR receptors. This study provides evidence that A. precatorius seed extracts possess promising bioactive compounds with probable anticancer and antioxidant properties against cervical cancer for restricting tumor growth.

Familial hypercholesterolemia is the most common primary lipid disorder responsible for coronary artery disease. A 22-year-old male presented with history of accelerating angina and extensive xanthomatous lesions all over the body. Coronary angiography showed significant left main and left anterior descending artery disease. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) imaging revealed areas of lipid rich plaque with thin capped fibrous atheroma, and inflammatory cell infiltration. Area of maximum stenosis showed fibrous plaque with dense lipid pool. OCT in this patient clarified plaque characteristics and achieved optimal procedural results. There were only few case reports which described OCT findings in patients with familial hypercholesterolemia. .

OBJECTIVE: Several studies have demonstrated a shift in the spectrum of infective endocarditis (IE) in the developed world. We aimed to investigate whether demographic and microbiologic characteristics of IE have changed in India. DESIGN: A retrospective analysis of patients with in north India between 2010 and 2020. METHODS: The clinical and laboratory profiles of 199 IE admitted to an academic hospital patients who met the modified Duke criteria for definite IE were analysed. RESULTS: The mean age was 34 years, and 84% were males. The main predisposing conditions were injection drug use (IDU) (n = 71, 35.7%), congenital heart disease (n = 46, 21.6%), rheumatic heart disease (n = 25, 12.5%), and prosthetic device (n = 19, 9.5%). 17.1% of patients developed IE without identified predispositions. Among 64.3% culture-positive cases, the most prevalent causative pathogens were Staphylococcus aureus (46.1%), viridans streptococci (7.0%), enterococci (6.0%), coagulase-negative staphylococci (5.5%), gram negative bacilli (5.5%), polymicrobial (5.5%), and Candida (1.0%). The tricuspid (30.3%), mitral (25.6%), and aortic (21.6%) valves were the most common sites of infection, and 60.3% had large vegetations (>10 mm). Systemic embolization occurred in 55.3% of patients at presentation. Cardiac surgery was required for 13.1%. In-hospital mortality was 17.1% and was associated with prosthetic devices (p-value, 0.001), baseline leucocytosis (p-value, 0.036) or acute kidney injury (p-value, 0.001), and a microbial etiology of gram negative bacilli or enterococci (p-value, 0.005). CONCLUSION: IDU is now the most important predisposition for IE in India, and S. aureus has become the leading cause of native valve endocarditis with or without IDU.

Hematoxylin and Eosin (H&E) stained Whole Slide Images (WSIs) are utilized for biopsy visualization-based diagnostic and prognostic assessment of diseases. Variation in the H&E staining process across different lab sites can lead to significant variations in biopsy image appearance. These variations introduce an undesirable bias when the slides are examined by pathologists or used for training deep learning models. Traditionally proposed stain normalization and color augmentation strategies can handle the human level bias. But deep learning models can easily disentangle the linear transformation used in these approaches, resulting in undesirable bias and lack of generalization. To handle these limitations, we propose a Self-Attentive Adversarial Stain Normalization (SAASN) approach for the normalization of multiple stain appearances to a common domain. This unsupervised generative adversarial approach includes self-attention mechanism for synthesizing images with finer detail while preserving the structural consistency of the biopsy features during translation. SAASN demonstrates consistent and superior performance compared to other popular stain normalization techniques on H&E stained duodenal biopsy image data.

BACKGROUND: Coronary artery disease (CAD) is witnessing a demographic transition with increasing prevalence in younger individuals. Data is scarce comparing various characteristics of acute coronary syndrome (ACS) between young and old patients in an Indian setting. Hence, we evaluated the epidemiological, demographic, risk factor, and outcome profile of young and old ACS patients in Indian setting. METHODS: This was a prospective observational study, which enrolled 50 consecutive ACS patients each into two groups: younger (≤45 years) and elderly (>45 years), respectively. Comparison of clinical presentation, electrocardiography, echocardiographic findings, conventional, nonconventional risk factors, and in-hospital outcomes including duration of hospital stay and major adverse cardiac events (MACE) were made between the two groups. Multivariate regression analysis of risk factors as determinants of MACE adjusting for other confounding factors was also performed. RESULTS: Fifty patients in each group were compared. Mean age in the younger and elderly group was 36 ± 4.69 and 61.58 ± 10.69 years, respectively. Male sex, smoking, family history of CAD, hyperhomocysteinemia, and obesity were observed more in the younger population. While dyslipidemia, low physical activity, diabetes mellitus, and history of previous ACS was more in the older population. Single-vessel disease was more common in younger patients while multivessel involvement was more common in elderly patients. Older patients had longer hospital stays and more in-hospital MACE including deaths. By multivariate analysis, shock was found to be an independent predictor of MACE in both groups. CONCLUSION: Younger ACS patients have a different risk profile and better in-hospital outcomes compared to older patients.

Agro-waste material derived from N. tabacum has shown enormous potential antioxidant and antimicrobial activity. Hence in the present study, we investigated the wound healing efficacy of ethanolic extract of stem of Nicotiana tabacum on wistar rat model. Ethanolic extract prepared from defatted stem was to check various phytochemicals using spectrophotometric and chromatographic technique. The antioxidant potential was determined by FRAP and Reducing Power assay in extract. Cytotoxicity of extracts was determined using mouse fibroblast L929 cell lines by MTT assay. In vivo angiogenic activity was observed on chick chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) model by observing blood vessels formation and its branching. In vivo wound healing activity was observed on excision wounds in rat model by quantifying percentage of wound contraction, antioxidant activity and histopathology studies. From the present study, polyphenols, tannins and alkaloids were found to be determined in the ethanolic extract by means of spectrophotometric and chromatographic analysis against standards. Antioxidant assay revealed maximum antioxidant potential in ethanolic extract. Cytotoxic effect of extract has not been shown on L929 cell line. From CAM model, extract has shown growth of blood vessels formation at concentration of 480 µg/ml. Topical application of extracts on excision wounds, revealed wound healing activity i.e. 98.7% ± 0.002 on 14th day as well as enzymatic activity (SOD, CAT, GST) and non enzyme content (GSH and Lipid peroxidation) has been found to be high in granulated tissue. Hisopathological studies confirmed the re-epithelization in skin wounds. It can be concluded that stem of N. tabacum can be used as herbal remedy in wound healing process as a topical application.

OBJECTIVE: Cardiogenic shock accounts for the majority of deaths amongst patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction. Procalcitonin is elevated in acute myocardial infarction, especially when complicated by left heart failure, cardiogenic shock, resuscitated cardiac arrest, and bacterial infections. However, the prognostic utility of procalcitonin in ST-elevation myocardial infarction complicated by cardiogenic shock has not been systematically evaluated. METHODS: We performed a retrospective registry review of 125 patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction and cardiogenic shock over 2 years at a tertiary referral hospital to examine the prognostic value of serum procalcitonin measurement at 24 hours after the onset of infarction for in-hospital mortality. RESULTS: The mean age of the study population was 57.75 ± 11.1 years, and the median delay from onset to hospital admission was 15 hours. The in-hospital mortality was 28.8%. Receiver operating characteristic analysis revealed a strong relationship between elevated procalcitonin and in-hospital mortality (area under the curve = 0.676; p = 0.002). Although procalcitonin was found to be higher in non-survivors in univariate analysis, it was not an independent predictor of mortality in multivariate regression analysis. Acute kidney injury, left ventricular ejection fraction, and non-revascularization were independently associated with mortality after adjusting for covariates. CONCLUSION: Although procalcitonin was higher in non-survivors, static procalcitonin measurement at 24 hours after the onset of ST-elevation myocardial infarction complicated by cardiogenic shock was not an independent predictor of in-hospital mortality. Additional prospective studies are required to assess the role of serial procalcitonin monitoring in ST-elevation myocardial infarction complicated by cardiogenic shock.

RESUMO

Isolated right-sided valvular disease is a much less recognised entity when compared with left-sided valvular heart disease. Almost all the cases of combined pulmonary valve with tricuspid valve involvement are a consequence of underlying carcinoid heart disease. Moreover, severe calcification of tricuspid valve is an extremely unusual finding. We report a case of a severe calcific tricuspid valve stenosis along with severe pulmonary valve stenosis where the exact aetiology could not be established. On reviewing the literature, we did not find any reports describing such a morphology.
