RESUMO

Uncontrolled inflammation contributes significantly to the mortality in acute respiratory infections. Our previous research has demonstrated that maize bran feruloylated oligosaccharides (FOs) possess notable anti-inflammatory properties linked to the NF-kB pathway regulation. In this study, we clarified that the oral administration of FOs moderately inhibited H1N1 virus infection and reduced lung inflammation in influenza-infected mice by decreasing a wide spectrum of cytokines (IFN-α, IFN-ß, IL-6, IL-10, and IL-23) in the lungs. The mechanism involves FOs suppressing the transduction of the RIG-I/MAVS/TRAF3 signaling pathway, subsequently lowering the expression of NF-κB. In silico analysis suggests that FOs have a greater binding affinity for the RIG-I/MAVS signaling complex. This indicates that FOs have potential as promising targets for immune modulation. Moreover, in MAVS knockout mice, we confirmed that the anti-inflammatory function of FOs against influenza depends on MAVS. Comprehensive analysis using 16S rRNA gene sequencing and metabolite profiling techniques showed that FOs have the potential to restore immunity by modulating the gut microbiota. In conclusion, our study demonstrates that FOs are effective anti-inflammatory phytochemicals in inhibiting lung inflammation caused by influenza. This suggests that FOs could serve as a potential nutritional strategy for preventing the H1N1 virus infection and associated lung inflammation.

Itch is one of the most common clinical symptoms in patients with diseases of the skin, liver, or kidney, and it strongly triggers aversive emotion and scratching behavior. Previous studies have confirmed the role of the prelimbic cortex (Prl) and the nucleus accumbens core (NAcC), which are reward and motivation regulatory centers, in the regulation of itch. However, it is currently unclear whether the Prl-NAcC projection, an important pathway connecting these two brain regions, is involved in the regulation of itch and its associated negative emotions. In this study, rat models of acute neck and cheek itch were established by subcutaneous injection of 5-HT, compound 48/80, or chloroquine. Immunofluorescence experiments determined that the number of c-Fos-immunopositive neurons in the Prl increased during acute itch. Chemogenetic inhibition of Prl glutamatergic neurons or Prl-NAcC glutamatergic projections can inhibit both histaminergic and nonhistaminergic itch-scratching behaviors and rectify the itch-related conditioned place aversion (CPA) behavior associated with nonhistaminergic itch. The Prl-NAcC projection may play an important role in the positive regulation of itch-scratching behavior by mediating the negative emotions related to itch.

BACKGROUND: Deep learning (DL)-assisted detection and segmentation of intracranial hemorrhage stroke in noncontrast computed tomography (NCCT) scans are well-established, but evidence on this topic is lacking. MATERIALS AND METHODS: PubMed and Embase databases were searched from their inception to November 2023 to identify related studies. The primary outcomes included sensitivity, specificity, and the Dice Similarity Coefficient (DSC); while the secondary outcomes were positive predictive value (PPV), negative predictive value (NPV), precision, area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUROC), processing time, and volume of bleeding. Random-effect model and bivariate model were used to pooled independent effect size and diagnostic meta-analysis data, respectively. RESULTS: A total of 36 original studies were included in this meta-analysis. Pooled results indicated that DL technologies have a comparable performance in intracranial hemorrhage detection and segmentation with high values of sensitivity (0.89, 95% CI: 0.88-0.90), specificity (0.91, 95% CI: 0.89-0.93), AUROC (0.94, 95% CI: 0.93-0.95), PPV (0.92, 95% CI: 0.91-0.93), NPV (0.94, 95% CI: 0.91-0.96), precision (0.83, 95% CI: 0.77-0.90), DSC (0.84, 95% CI: 0.82-0.87). There is no significant difference between manual labeling and DL technologies in hemorrhage quantification (MD 0.08, 95% CI: -5.45-5.60, P =0.98), but the latter takes less process time than manual labeling (WMD 2.26, 95% CI: 1.96-2.56, P =0.001). CONCLUSION: This systematic review has identified a range of DL algorithms that the performance was comparable to experienced clinicians in hemorrhage lesions identification, segmentation, and quantification but with greater efficiency and reduced cost. It is highly emphasized that multicenter randomized controlled clinical trials will be needed to validate the performance of these tools in the future, paving the way for fast and efficient decision-making during clinical procedure in patients with acute hemorrhagic stroke.

Na2Fe2(SO4)3 (NFS), as a promising cathode for sodium-ion batteries, is still plagued by its poor intrinsic conductivity. In general, hybridization with carbon materials is an effective strategy to improve the sodium storage performance of NFS. However, the role of carbon materials in the electrochemical performance of NFS cathode materials has not been thoroughly investigated. Herein, the effect of carbon materials was revealed by employing various conductive carbon materials as carbon sources. Among these, the NFS coated with Ketjen Black (NFS@KB) shows the largest specific surface area, which is beneficial for electrolyte penetration and rapid ionic/electronic migration, leading to improved electrochemical performance. Therefore, NFS@KB shows a long cycle life (74.6 mA h g-1 after 1000 cycles), superior rate performance (61.5 mA h g-1 at a 5.0 A g-1), and good temperature tolerance (-10 °C to 60 °C). Besides, the practicality of the NFS@KB cathode was further demonstrated by assembling a NFS@KB//hard carbon full cell. Therefore, this research indicates that a suitable carbon material for the NFS cathode can greatly activate the sodium storage performance.

Objective: In this study, we aim to examine the effects of osteotomy under varying posterior slope angles on knee joint function recovery following knee arthroplasty. Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis from September 2015 to September 2018 on 240 patients who underwent knee arthroplasty three years previously. The study participants were categorized based on changes in the angle of the posterior slope before and after surgery: Group 1, > 5°; Group 2, 3°-5°; Group 3, 0°-3°; Group 4, -3°-0°; Group 5, < -3°. All participants were affected with knee osteoarthritis. The Knee Society Clinical Rating System (KSS) knee function score, Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Arthritis Index (WOMAC) knee function score, Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) pain score, and postoperative complications were measured 3 years after surgery. Results: The level of pain experienced by the patients decreased significantly than before, with pain scores ranging from 1.0-3.0, and there was a statistical difference between groups (H = 93.400, P < 0.001). The KSS score increased, with group 5 having the lowest median score of 78.0 and group 2 having the highest median score of 97.0, and there was a statistical difference between groups (H = 164.460, P < 0.001). The WOMAC score was reduced, with the median score being 24.0, 11.0, 14.0, 20.0, and 26.0, in the five groups, respectively. Group 5 had the highest score, while Group 2 had the lowest score, and there was a statistically significant difference between groups (H = 164.223, P < 0.001). No symptoms such as periprosthetic femoral fracture, prosthetic loosening, or pad wear were detected in patients postoperatively. Conclusion: Osteotomy at various posterior slope angles in total knee arthroplasty impacts postoperative knee function rehabilitation. An excessive increase or decrease in angle can have an impact on the postoperative recovery of knee function.

The Sellick maneuver is used for endotracheal intubation to prevent the occurrence of gastroesophageal reflux. The aim of the present study was to observe the effect of the Sellick maneuver on safety, esophageal closure status, gastric mucosal fold extension status, and positive detection rate of lesions in patients with esophageal hiatal hernia under painless gastroscopy. A total of 40 patients with esophageal hiatal hernia who underwent painless gastroscopy were screened for the use of the Sellick maneuver, in which the operator applied pressure to the cervical cricoid cartilage during the examination. The status of esophageal closure at the are pressed, examination time, gastric mucosal fold extension score, positive rate of lesion detection, and reflux of gastric juice or gastric contents, amongst other parameters were assessed. After using the Sellick maneuver, the state of esophageal closure during gastroscopy was significantly better than the no-Sellick maneuver group (P<0.05), and the extension scores of the greater curvature folds of the gastric body, the lateral folds of the lesser curvature of the gastric body, and the mucosal folds of the fundus were significantly higher than that of the no-Sellick maneuver (all P<0.05). The number of gastric polyps and gastric lesions (gastric ulcers and mucosal hyperplasia, amongst others) examined with the Sellick maneuver was significantly higher than the no-Sellick maneuver group (P<0.01). The Sellick maneuver effectively improved the extension of gastric mucosal folds during gastroscopy in patients with esophageal hiatal hernia, increased the positive detection rate of gastric lesions, and shortened the endoscopy time.

Bicyclic hydantoinothiolactone (1), as the key intermediate for production of (+)-biotin, has been efficiently and high-stereoselectively synthesized from the cheap starting material l-cystine via nine steps in 44% overall yield. In this new practical synthesis, there are two characteristic steps worthy of note. One step is TMSOTf-catalyzed efficient cyanation of (3S,7aR)-6-benzyl-5-oxo-3-phenyltetrahydro-1H,3H-imidazo[1,5-c]thiazol-7-yl acetate, the other step is DBU-catalyzed rapid isomerization of trans-isomer to cis-isomer of the bicyclic hydantoinothiolactone.

AIMS: This study aimed to evaluate the safety, efficacy, and long-term outcomes of endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) and endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) for treating colorectal adenomas and tumors. METHODS: A systematic literature review was conducted using databases including PubMed, Web of Science, and Embase. Parameters such as number of patients or lesions, histological diagnosis, lesion size, surgery time, en-bloc resection, R0 resection, severe postoperative complications, and local recurrence were extracted and pooled for analysis. RESULTS: A total of 12 retrospective studies involving 1289 patients and 1850 lesions were included in the analysis. EMR was found to have a shorter operation time by 53.6 minutes (95% CI: 51.3, 55.9, P<0.001) and fewer incidences of severe postoperative complications such as perforation and delayed bleeding (OR = 0.40, 95%CI: 0.23, 0.71, P<0.001). On the other hand, ESD had higher rates of en-bloc resection (OR = 0.15, 95%CI: 0.07, 0.30, P<0.001) and R0 resection (OR = 0.32, 95%CI: 0.16, 0.65, P<0.001). Recurrence after EMR was found to be significantly higher than that after ESD surgery (OR = 5.88, 95%CI: 2.15, 16.07, P = 0.037). CONCLUSIONS: The study suggests that the choice of surgical method may have a greater impact on recurrence compared to the pathological type, and that ESD may be more suitable for the treatment of malignant lesions despite its higher rates of severe postoperative complications and longer operation time.

The search of quantum spin liquid (QSL), an exotic magnetic state with strongly fluctuating and highly entangled spins down to zero temperature, is a main theme in current condensed matter physics. However, there is no smoking gun evidence for deconfined spinons in any QSL candidate so far. The disorders and competing exchange interactions may prevent the formation of an ideal QSL state on frustrated spin lattices. Here we report comprehensive and systematic measurements of the magnetic susceptibility, ultralow-temperature specific heat, muon spin relaxation (µSR), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and thermal conductivity for NaYbSe2 single crystals, in which Yb3+ ions with effective spin-1/2 form a perfect triangular lattice. All these complementary techniques find no evidence of long-range magnetic order down to their respective base temperatures. Instead, specific heat, µSR, and NMR measurements suggest the coexistence of quasi-static and dynamic spins in NaYbSe2. The scattering from these quasi-static spins may cause the absence of magnetic thermal conductivity. Thus, we propose a scenario of fluctuating ferrimagnetic droplets immersed in a sea of QSL. This may be quite common on the way pursuing an ideal QSL, and provides a brand new platform to study how a QSL state survives impurities and coexists with other magnetically ordered states.

S100A10, a member of the S100 protein family, is upregulated in multiple human malignancies and plays a key role in regulating tumor progression. This study aimed to reveal the underlying mechanism by which S100A10 in regulates the proliferation, migration, and invasion of glioma. The expression and clinical information data of S100A10 were downloaded from public databases (TCGA, CGGA, and GEPIA2). S100A10 expression levels in glioma tumor tissues and adjacent nontumor tissues were compared by immunohistochemistry (IHC). The functional roles of S100A10 in glioma were assessed by cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8) cell proliferation assay, wound healing assay, transwell assay, and flow cytometry. miRDB and double luciferase assay were used to predict and identify potential S100A10 mRNA-complementary miRNAs, and the roles of miR-21-5p in glioma cell were examined by targeted knockdown or overexpression miR-21-5p in glioma cell lines. We found that S100A10 was overexpressed in glioma tissues and predicted a worse prognosis. S100A10 knockdown significantly inhibited glioma cell proliferation, invasion, and migration. Furthermore, we demonstrated that miR-21-5p inhibits glioma proliferation, migration, and invasion by targeting S100A10. This study showed S100A10 was a new prognostic predictor among glioma patients and provided new insights into the pathogenesis of gliomas, suggesting that miR-21-5p /S100A10 axis may serve as a valuable therapeutic target for glioma.

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is a subtype of breast cancer with high mortality, and the efficacy of monotherapy for TNBC is still disappointing. Here, we developed a novel combination therapy for TNBC based on a multifunctional nanohollow carbon sphere. This intelligent material contains a superadsorbed silicon dioxide sphere, sufficient loading space, a nanoscale hole on its surface, a robust shell, and an outer bilayer, and it could load both programmed cell death protein 1/programmed cell death ligand 1 (PD-1/PD-L1) small-molecule immune checkpoints and small-molecule photosensitizers with excellent loading contents, protect these small molecules during the systemic circulation, and achieve accumulation of them in tumor sites after systemic administration followed by the application of laser irradiation, thereby realizing dual attack of photodynamic therapy and immunotherapy on tumors. Importantly, we integrated the fasting-mimicking diet condition that can further enhance the cellular uptake efficiency of nanoparticles in tumor cells and amplify the immune responses, further enhancing the therapeutic effect. Thus, a novel combination therapy "PD-1/PD-L1 immune checkpoint blockade + photodynamic therapy + fasting-mimicking diet"was developed with the aid of our materials, which eventually achieved a marked therapeutic effect in 4T1-tumor-bearing mice. The concept can also be applied to the clinical treatment of human TNBC with guiding significance in the future.

BACKGROUND: Chronic atrophic gastritis is a premalignant lesion with a high risk of developing into gastric cancer. Rhein is a key active ingredient of several traditional Chinese medicines with multiple pharmacological effects. Nevertheless, the role of rhein in chronic atrophic gastritis is unclear. METHODS: Helicobacter pylori infection was used to establish chronic atrophic gastritis in a mouse model. Murine gastric mucosa treated with saline or rhein was used in experiments. Hematoxylin and eosin staining and Alcian blue-periodic acid-Schiff staining were utilized for histopathological observation of murine gastric mucosa. The levels of proinflammatory factors were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, and oxidative stress-associated markers were detected by commercially available assay kits. Western blotting was used for measuring the levels of nuclear factor, erythroid 2-like bZIP transcription factor 2, and mitogen-activated protein kinase signaling-related proteins. RESULTS: Rhein mitigated the gastric mucosal injury and suppressed inflammation and oxidative stress in H. pylori-infected chronic atrophic gastritis mouse models. Rhein inactivated mitogen-activated protein kinase and activated erythroid 2-like bZIP transcription factor 2 signaling in gastric mucosa of mice with chronic atrophic gastritis. CONCLUSION: Rhein exhibits anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects in chronic atrophic gastritis via erythroid 2-like bZIP transcription factor 2 and mitogen-activated protein kinase signaling.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: The detection rate for early gastric cancer (EGC) is unsatisfactory, and mastering the diagnostic skills of magnifying endoscopy with narrow-band imaging (ME-NBI) requires rich expertise and experience. We aimed to develop an EGC captioning model (EGCCap) to automatically describe the visual characteristics of ME-NBI images for endoscopists. METHODS: ME-NBI images (n = 1886) from 294 cases were enrolled from multiple centers, and corresponding 5658 text data were designed following the simple EGC diagnostic algorithm. An EGCCap was developed using the multiscale meshed-memory transformer. We conducted comprehensive evaluations for EGCCap including the quantitative and quality of performance, generalization, robustness, interpretability, and assistant value analyses. The commonly used metrics were BLEUs, CIDEr, METEOR, ROUGE, SPICE, accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity. Two-sided statistical tests were conducted, and statistical significance was determined when P < .05. RESULTS: EGCCap acquired satisfying captioning performance by outputting correctly and coherently clinically meaningful sentences in the internal test cohort (BLEU1 = 52.434, CIDEr = 36.734, METEOR = 27.823, ROUGE = 49.949, SPICE = 35.548) and maintained over 80% performance when applied to other centers or corrupted data. The diagnostic ability of endoscopists improved with the assistance of EGCCap, which was especially significant (P < .05) for junior endoscopists. Endoscopists gave EGCCap an average remarkable score of 7.182, showing acceptance of EGCCap. CONCLUSIONS: EGCCap exhibited promising captioning performance and was proven with satisfying generalization, robustness, and interpretability. Our study showed potential value in aiding and improving the diagnosis of EGC and facilitating the development of automated reporting in the future.

BACKGROUND: The novel coronavirus is still mutating, and the pandemic continues. Meanwhile, many COVID-19 survivors have residual postinfection clinical manifestations. Human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (hUC-MSCs) have been shown to be effective in the early stages of COVID-19. OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to investigate long-term safety and efficacy of treatment in patients with severe COVID-19 patients who had received hUC-MSCs therapy. METHODS: Twenty-five discharged patients who had severe COVID-19 (including the standard treatment group and the standard treatment plus hUC-MSCs group) were enrolled in a 1-year follow-up. The assessment considered adverse effects (including effects on liver and kidney function, coagulation, ECG, tumor marker, and so on), pulmonary function, St George's Respiratory Questionnaire (SGRQ), postinfection sequelae and serum concentration of Krebs von den Lungen-6 (KL-6), malondialdehyde (MDA), H2S, carnitine, and N-6 long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (N-6 LC-PUFAs). MEASUREMENTS AND MAIN RESULTS: Pulmonary ventilation function had significantly improved at the 1-year follow-up in both the hUC-MSCs group and the control group compared with the 3-month follow-up (P < 0.01). Fatigue (60% [15/25]) remained the most common symptom at the 1-year follow-up. The rate of fatigue relief was significantly reduced in the hUC-MSCs group (25% [2/8]) compared to the control group (76.5% [13/17]) (P = 0.028). The level of KL-6 was significantly lower in the hUC-MSCs group (2585.5 ± 186.5 U/ml) than in the control group (3120.7 ± 158.3 U/ml) (P < 0.001). Compared with the control group, the hUC-MSCs group had a lower level of MDA (9.27 ± 0.54 vs. 9.91 ± 0.72 nmol/ml, P = 0.036). No obvious adverse effects were observed in the hUC-MSCs treatment group at 1 year after discharge. CONCLUSIONS: Intravenous transplantation of hUC-MSCs was a safe approach in the long term in the treatment of patients with severe COVID-19. In addition, hUC-MSCs had a positive effect on postinfection sequelae in COVID-19 survivors. Background: To analyze the key prognostic genes and potential traditional Chinese medicine targets in glioblastoma (GBM) by bioinformatics and network pharmacology. Methods: GBM datasets were obtained from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database to clarify the differentially-expressed genes (DEGs) in the carcinoma and paracancerous tissues. The molecular functions (MF) and signaling pathways of enriched DEGs were analyzed by the Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) analyses. The STRING database and Cytoscape software were used to construct the protein-protein interaction (PPI) network and screen hub genes to focus on genes with greater clinical significance. The transcription expression and prognosis of hub genes were analyzed using the Gene Expression Profiling Interactive Analysis 2 (GEPIA 2) database. The important compounds and target molecules were obtained via the Traditional Chinese Medicine Systems Pharmacology Database (TCMSP) database. We identified the active ingredients by setting the property values of pharmacokinetic attribute values. We constructed the network of "Chinese medicine ingredients-DEGs target" and screened out the target genes and active ingredients with high correlation scores. Finally, molecular docking verification was carried out using AutoDock Tools and PyMOL. Results: We obtained 271 DEGs, including 212 up-regulated genes and 59 down-regulated genes and screened ten hub genes. GO and KEGG analyses suggested that the hub genes were mainly involved in the following biological processes: the cell cycle, cell division, and cell adhesion, as well as extracellular matrix adhesion-related pathways, the p53 signaling pathways, and cadherin binding involved in cell-cell adhesion. We established the interaction network between the components and DEGs to screen out the traditional Chinese medicine active component (luteolin) and target genes (BIRC5 and CCNB1) for the treatment of GBM. The molecular docking results showed that the bindings of protein receptors, BIRC5 and CCNB1, with the compound ligand, luteolin, were stable and formed by hydrogen bonding interaction. Conclusions: In this study, we determined that luteolin potentially inhibits glioblastoma proliferation and migration through key target genes, BIRC5 and CCNB1, via bioinformatics and network pharmacology analysis, and affects the prognosis of GBM patients, providing new ideas for clinical targeted therapy and new drug development.

Liamocins synthesized by Aureobasidium spp. are glycolipids composed of a single mannitol or arabitol headgroup linked to either three, four or even six 3,5-dihydroxydecanoic ester tail-groups. The highest titer of liamocin achieved was over 40.0 g/L. The substrates for liamocins synthesis include glucose, sucrose, xylose, mannitol, and others. The Pks1 is responsible for the biosynthesis of the tail-group 3,5-dihydroxydecanoic acid, both mannitol dehydrogenase (MDH) and mannitol 1-phosphate 5-dehydrogenase (MPDH) catalyze the mannitol biosynthesis and the arabitol biosynthesis is controlled by arabitol dehydrogenase (ArDH). The ester bond formation between 3,5-dihydroxydecanoic acid and mannitol or arabitol is catalyzed by the esterase (Est1). Liamocin biosynthesis is regulated by the specific transcriptional activator (Gal1), global transcriptional activator (Msn2), various signaling pathways, acetyl-CoA flux while Pks1 activity is controlled by PPTase activity. The synthesized liamocins have high bioactivity against the pathogenic bacteria Streptococcus spp. and some kinds of cancer cells while Massoia lactone released liamocins which exhibited obvious antifungal and anticancer activities. Therefore, liamocins and Massoia lactone have many applications in various sectors of biotechnology.

Background: CALCRL is involved in a variety of key biological processes, including cell proliferation, apoptosis, angiogenesis, and inflammation. However, the role of CALCRL in glioma remains unknown. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of differential CALCRL expression on the malignant progression of glioma and its value in glioma prognosis. Methods: Sequencing data from glioma and normal tissues were downloaded from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and Genotype-Tissue Expression (GTEx) databases, and the downloaded data were statistically analyzed using bioinformatics tools and the corresponding R package. The expression of CALCRL in normal brain tissue and different grades of glioma tissue was detected by pathological and immunohistochemical staining of clinical glioma specimens. The expression of CALCRL in different glioma cell lines was detected by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR), and the U87 cell line with high expression was selected to construct the CALCRL knockdown model by transfection with short hairpin (shRNA). The cell proliferation ability was detected by Celigo assay and 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay, the ability of cell clone formation was detected by clone formation assay, and the level of apoptosis was detected by flow cytometry. Results: The expression of CALCRL in glioma was significantly upregulated compared with that of normal tissue, especially in low-grade glioma (LGG) compared to glioblastoma, and the differential expression of CALCRL correlated significantly with the prognosis of LGG. Clinical pathology and immunohistochemistry showed that the expression of CALCRL was related to the pathological grade of glioma, and the highest expression was found in World Health Organization (WHO) grade Ⅲ glioma. The results of qRT-PCR showed that CALCRL expression was highest in the U87 cell line. After knockdown of CALCRL expression, the proliferation and clonogenic ability of U87 cells were significantly decreased, and the apoptosis rate was significantly increased. Conclusions: CALCRL is highly expressed in LGG. Interfering with CALCRL expression inhibits glioma cell proliferation and promotes apoptosis, and thus has potential as a biomarker and therapeutic target for the prognosis of those with LGGs.

Background: Ferroptosis has been widely investigated as an emerging drug target, while its combination with nanoscience provides bourgeoning application prospects. The development of ferroptosis regulating nanomedicines have attracted worldwide attentions in recent years. It would be meaningful to describe the relevant publication paradigm. Methods: Herein, a bibliometric analysis was performed using the database of Web of Science Core Collection to clarify the publication paradigm. The development of related publications in the last 6 years was described, and the revolutionary trends were figured out. Ultimately, the possible future exploration directions were proposed. Results: The bibliometric analysis of 327 documents of interest indicated that the main research focus was in multiple fields including Materials science, Science & technology, Chemistry, and Pharmacology & pharmacy. With widely cooperation and strong funding, the researchers from Chinese organizations contributed most of publications, followed with United States and Australia. Cocitation analysis revealed that several original papers reported the key molecular mechanisms of ferroptosis were considered as the foundation for subsequent studies, and some nanomedicines-related documents were taken as examples and discussed. Mining results showed that the mechanism evaluation of ferroptosis regulation therapy for cancer treatment was the hotspot. Then, several possible future explorations of ferroptosis-related nanoscience were presented and discussed. Conclusions: The bibliometric profile of nanoscience-ferroptosis research was analyzed in detail. We believe that the bibliometric analysis could act as a robust method for explicating the publication paradigm as a certain field.

Manganese-based Prussian Blue, Na2-δ Mn[Fe(CN)6 ] (MnPB), is a good candidate for sodium-ion battery cathode materials due to its high capacity. However, it suffers from severe capacity decay during battery cycling due to the destabilizing Jahn-Teller distortions it undergoes as Mn2+ is oxidized to Mn3+ . Herein, the structure is stabilized by a thin epitaxial surface layer of nickel-based Prussian Blue (Na2-δ Ni[Fe(CN)6 ]). The one-pot synthesis relies on a chelating agent with an unequal affinity for Mn2+ and Ni2+ ions, which prevents Ni2+ from reacting until the Mn2+ is consumed. This is a new and simpler synthesis of core-shell materials, which usually needs several steps. The material has an electrochemical capacity of 93 mA h g-1 , of which it retains 96 % after 500 charge-discharge cycles (vs. 37 % for MnPB). Its rate capability is also remarkable: at 4 A g-1 (ca. 55 C) it can reversibly store 70 mA h g-1 , which is also reflected in its diffusion coefficient of ca. 10-8  cm2 s-1 . The epitaxial outer layer appears to exert an anisotropic strain on the inner layer, preventing the Jahn-Teller distortions it normally undergoes during de-sodiation.
