RESUMO

The perianal disease affects up to one-third of individuals with Crohn's disease (CD), causing disabling symptoms and significant impairment in quality of life, particularly for those with perianal fistulising CD (PFCD). The collaborative effort between gastroenterologists and surgeons is essential for addressing PFCD to achieve fistula closure and promote luminal healing. Limited fistula healing rates with conventional therapies have prompted the emergence of new biological agents, endoscopic procedures and surgical techniques that show promising results. Among these, mesenchymal stem cells injection is a particularly hopeful therapy. In addition to the burden of fistulas, individuals with perianal CD may face an increased risk of developing anal cancer. This underscores the importance of surveillance programmes and timely interventions to prevent late diagnoses and poor outcomes. Currently, there is no established formal anal screening programme. In this review, we provide an overview of the current state of the art in managing PFCD, including novel medical, endoscopic and surgical approaches. The discussion also focuses on the relevance of establishing an anal cancer screening programme in CD, intending to propose a risk-based surveillance algorithm. The validation of this surveillance programme would be a significant step forward in improving patient care and outcomes.

In patients with sickle cell disease (SCD) and beta-thalassemia major (TM), allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) was considered the only curative treatment option with a good survival rate. However, with the recent approval of gene therapies, more information is needed to understand the benefits and risks of these interventions. We performed a retrospective analysis of the Kids Inpatient Database to describe demographic features, short-term complications, and hospital charges of patients with SCD and TM treated with HSCT during 2006-2019 in the United States. The database was filtered using the International Classification of Diseases, 9th and 10th edition codes to identify children under 20 years of age with SCD or TM who underwent HSCT. A total of 513 children with SCD or TM who received HSCT were analyzed. The prevalence of HSCT per 1000,000 U.S. population increased from 0.31 in 2006 to 1.99 in 2019 (p < 0.001). The median age of children with SCD who underwent HSCT was 10 (6-15) years, and that for TM was 6 (3-11.5) years (p < 0.001). The combined mortality rate was 4% (2.4%-6.6%) but higher in the TM group. The length-of-stay and total charges were higher in the TM population (p < 0.01). This study provides national data on HSCT among hospitalized children with SCD and TM in the United States, demonstrating an increasing use of HSCT between 2006 and 2019. Although hospital mortality of HSCT in these conditions is low, it still represents a challenge, especially in TM patients.

We report an autochthonous case of mild unifocal chronic pulmonary paracoccidioidomycosis in a 48-year-old previously healthy woman with no history of possible environmental exposures in endemic rural areas, supposedly resulting from reactivation of a latent pulmonary focus secondary to the use of methotrexate for the control of Chikungunya arthropathy. Laboratory investigation ruled out other immunosuppression. Her only symptoms were a dry cough and chest pain. Diagnosis confirmed by needle lung biopsy. There were no abnormalities on physical examination nor evidence of central nervous system involvement. MRI of the total abdomen showed no involvement of other organs. Computed chest tomography showed a favorable evolution under the use of itraconazole (200 mg/day). Different tomographic presentations findings are highlighted when performed before and after treatment. CONCLUSIONS: PCM should be considered even in a woman without a history of consistent environmental exposure and in a non-endemic geographic area.

Cancer is a major worldwide public health problem. Although there have already been astonishing advances in cancer diagnosis and treatment, the scientific community continues to make huge efforts to develop new methods to treat cancer. The main objective of this work is to prepare, using a green sol-gel method with coconut water powder (CWP), a new nanocomposite with a mixture of Gd3Fe5O12 and ZnFe2O4, which has never been synthesized previously. Therefore, we carried out a structural (DTA-TG and X-ray diffraction), morphological (SEM), and magnetic (VSM and hyperthermia) characterization of the prepared samples. The prepared nanocomposite denoted a saturation magnetization of 11.56 emu/g at room temperature with a ferromagnetic behavior and with a specific absorption rate (SAR) value of 0.5 ± 0.2 (W/g). Regarding cytotoxicity, for concentrations < 10 mg/mL, it does not appear to be toxic. Although the obtained results were interesting, the high particle size was identified as a problem for the use of this nanocomposite.

Most patients with GNB1 encephalopathy have developmental delay and/or intellectual disability, brain anomalies and seizures. Recently, two cases with GNB1 encephalopathy caused by haploinsufficiency have been reported that also show a Prader-Willi-like phenotype of childhood hypotonia and severe obesity. Here we present three new cases from our expert centre for genetic obesity in which GNB1 truncating and splice variants, probably leading to haploinsufficiency, were identified. They all have obesity, hyperphagia and intellectual deficit. The clinical cases and their weight courses are presented, together with a review of all 68 published cases with GNB1 encephalopathy. Information on weight was not mentioned in most of these articles, so we contacted authors for additional clinical information on weight status and hyperphagia. Of the 42 patients whose weight status we could determine, obesity was present in 8 patients (19%). Obesity is significantly over-represented in the group with truncating and splicing variants. In this group, we see an obesity prevalence of 75%. Since GNB1 has been linked to several key genes in the hypothalamic leptin-melanocortin pathway, which regulates satiety and energy expenditure, our data support the potential association between GNB1 haploinsufficiency and genetic obesity. We also suggest GNB1 is a candidate gene for the known obesity phenotype of the 1p36 microdeletion syndrome given this chromosomal region includes the GNB1 gene. Knowledge of an additional obesity phenotype is important for prognosis, early interventions against obesity and awareness when prescribing weight-inducing medication.

Anemia in kidney transplant recipients can stem from a diverse array of etiologies, including dietary deficiencies, inflammatory processes, allograft dysfunction, as well as viral and bacterial infections. We present a case of refractory anemia in a 49-year-old male patient occurring within the initial month following a kidney transplant, which persisted despite numerous transfusions, posing a formidable challenge. The patient was maintained on the standard immunosuppressant regimen-Tacrolimus, Mycophenolate, and Prednisolone. Diagnostic evaluations eliminated well-established causes such as dietary deficiencies, gastrointestinal losses, and prevalent infections. Subsequently, after viral PCR testing, a diagnosis of Pure Red Cell Aplasia (PRCA) due to infection with parvovirus B19 was made. Although the patient had a reduction in the immunosuppression drugs and received a course of Intravenous Immunoglobulins (IVIG) on two separate occasions spanning two months, the anemia relapsed. Subsequently, after an additional dose of IVIG with further modification and reduction of the immunosuppressant regimen, including stopping the mycophenolate and switching tacrolimus with cyclosporine, the patient ultimately achieved successful resolution of his symptoms and a significant decrease in viral load. Our case highlights the significance of unconventional etiologies when confronted with anemia in the setting of kidney transplantation. Furthermore, it also provides further insights into therapeutic avenues for addressing PRCA in kidney transplant recipients.

Byrsonima sericea is a species native to Brazil that is widely used in traditional medicine. The seed ethanol extract (SEE) had the highest content of total phenols (179.35 mg GAE g-1 extract) and flavonoids (10.42 mg QE g-1 extract) and was the most active in relation to antioxidant activity (DPPH: IC50 =4.25 µg mL-1 and ABTS: IC50 =4.82 µg mL-1 ). The peel/pulp ethanol extract (PEE) had the best anticholinesterase activity (IC50 =6.02 µg mL-1 ). Chromatographic investigation identified gallic acid, isoquercitrin, quercetin and amentoflavone in SEE, and gallic acid, isoquercitrin, quercetin and rutin in PEE. Six fatty acid methyl esters and seven triterpenes were identified, highlighting oleic acid in the seed hexane extract (61.85 %) and in the peel/pulp hexane extract (52.61 %), and betulin in the peel/pulp hexane extract (5.25 %). The substances and biological activities identified in B. sericea characterize this fruit as a functional food for future studies.

ABSTRACT Objective: Identify the predictors associated with delayed union at 6 months and non-union at 12 months in tibial shaft fractures treated with intramedullary nailing (IMN). Methods: This retrospective longitudinal study included a cohort of 218 patients who sustained tibial shaft fractures and received IMN between January 2015 and March 2022. We gathered data on a range of risk factors, including patient demographics, trauma intensity, associated injuries, fracture characteristics, soft tissue injuries, comorbidities, addictions, and treatment-specific factors. We employed logistic bivariate regression analysis to explore the factors predictive of delayed union and non-union. Results: At the 6-month follow-up, the incidence of delayed union was 28.9%. Predictors for delayed union included flap coverage, high-energy trauma, open fractures, the use of external fixation as a staged treatment, the percentage of cortical contact in simple type fractures, RUST score, and postoperative infection. After 12 months, the non-union rate was 15.6%. Conclusion: the main predictors for non-union after IMN of tibial shaft fractures are related to the trauma energy. Furthermore, the initial treatment involving external fixation and postoperative infection also correlated with non-union. Level of Evidence III; Retrospective Longitudinal Study.


RESUMO Objetivo: identificar os fatores preditivos associados ao atraso de consolidação em 6 meses e à não união em 12 meses em fraturas da diáfise da tíbia tratadas com haste intramedular (HIM). Métodos: O estudo longitudinal retrospectivo de coorte incluiu 218 pacientes, que apresentaram fraturas da díafise da tíbia e receberam HIM entre janeiro de 2015 e março de 2022. Os desfechos principais pesquisados foram atraso de consolidação em 6 meses de acompanhamento, e não união em 12 meses. Coletou-se dados de uma variedade de fatores de risco. Utilizou-se análise de regressão logística bivariada para explorar os fatores preditivos de atraso de consolidação e não união. Resultados: Aos 6 meses, a incidência de atraso de consolidação foi de 28,9%. Os preditores de atraso de consolidação incluem cobertura de retalho, trauma de alta energia, fraturas expostas, uso de fixação externa como tratamento estagiado, porcentagem de contato cortical em fraturas simples, escore RUST e infecção pós-operatória. Após 12 meses, a taxa de não união foi de 15,6%, com fatores preditivos sendo necessidade de cobertura por retalho, lesão vascular, trauma de alta energia, fraturas expostas, uso de fixação externa como tratamento estagiado, porcentagem de contato cortical em fraturas simples e infecção pós-operatória. ABSTRACT Objective: Assess complications and risks in staged femoral shaft fracture treatment using external fixation and intramedullary nailing (DCO). Methods: Analysis involved 37 patients with 40 fractures, mostly male (87.5%), average age 32.9 years. Data included ASA score, AO/OTA and Gustilo classifications, Glasgow Coma Score, Injury Severity Score, times to external fixation and conversion, ICU duration, nail type, and reaming status. Complications tracked were mortality, deep infection, and non-union. Results: Predominant fracture type was AO/OTA A (45%), with 40% open (Gustilo A, 93.8%). Average ISS was 21; GCS was 12.7. Median ICU stay was 3 days; average time to conversion was 10.2 days. Retrograde nails were used in 50% of cases, with reaming in 67.5%. Complications included deep infections in 5% and non-union in 2.5%. Conclusion: DCO strategy resulted in low infection and non-union rates, associated with lower GCS and longer ICU stays. RESUMO Objetivo: Analisar taxa de complicações e riscos no tratamento estagiado de fraturas diafisárias do fêmur com fixador externo e conversão para haste intramedular (DCO). Métodos: Estudo com 37 pacientes, 35 masculinos, idade média de 32,9 anos, abordando escores ASA, classificação AO/OTA, Gustilo, Glasgow e ISS, tempo até a fixação externa, na UTI e tipo de haste. Complicações como mortalidade, infecção profunda e não união foram registradas. Resultados: Fraturas tipo AO/OTA A foram as mais comuns (45%), com 40% expostas (Gustilo A, 93,8%). ISS médio de 21 e ECG de 12,7. Média de 3 dias na UTI e 10,2 dias até a conversão. Uso de haste retrógrada em 50% dos casos e fresagem em 67,5%. As complicações incluíram infecção profunda em 5% e não união em 2,5%. A não união correlacionou-se com baixo ECG e tempo prolongado na UTI. Conclusão: A estratégia de DCO mostrou-se eficaz com baixas taxas de infecção e não união, associada a baixo ECG e tempo na UTI. Nível de Evidência III; Estudo de Coorte Retrospectivo.

Traditional bioactive glass powders are typically composed of irregular particles that can be packed into dense configurations presenting low interconnectivity, which can limit bone ingrowth. The use of novel biocomposite sphere formulations comprising bioactive factors as bone fillers are most advantageous, as it simultaneously allows for packing the particles in a 3-dimensional manner to achieve an adequate interconnected porosity, enhanced biological performance, and ultimately a superior new bone formation. In this work, we develop and characterize novel biocomposite macrospheres of Sr-bioactive glass using sodium alginate, polylactic acid (PLA), and chitosan (CH) as encapsulating materials for finding applications as bone fillers. The biocomposite macrospheres that were obtained using PLA have a larger size distribution and higher porosity and an interconnectivity of 99.7%. Loose apatite particles were observed on the surface of macrospheres prepared with alginate and CH by means of soaking into a simulated body fluid (SBF) for 7 days. A dense apatite layer was formed on the biocomposite macrospheres' surface produced with PLA, which served to protect PLA from degradation. In vitro investigations demonstrated that biocomposite macrospheres had minimal cytotoxic effects on a human osteosarcoma cell line (SaOS-2 cells). However, the accelerated degradation of PLA due to the degradation of bioactive glass may account for the observed decrease in SaOS-2 cells viability. Among the biocomposite macrospheres, those composed of PLA exhibited the most promising characteristics for their potential use as fillers in bone tissue repair applications.

Cancer is a disease that continues to greatly impact our society. Developing new and more personalized treatment options is crucial to decreasing the cancer burden. In this study, we combined magnetic polysaccharide microparticles with a Pluronic thermoresponsive hydrogel to develop a multifunctional, injectable drug delivery system (DDS) for magnetic hyperthermia applications. Gellan gum and alginate microparticles were loaded with superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIONs) with and without coating. The magnetic microparticles' registered temperature increases up to 4 °C upon the application of an alternating magnetic field. These magnetic microparticles were mixed with drug-loaded microparticles, and, subsequently, this mixture was embedded within a Pluronic thermoresponsive hydrogel that is capable of being in the gel state at 37 °C. The proposed DDS was capable of slowly releasing methylene blue, used as a model drug, for up to 9 days. The developed hydrogel/microparticle system had a smaller rate of drug release compared with microparticles alone. This system proved to be a potential thermoresponsive DDS suitable for magnetic hyperthermia applications, thus enabling a synergistic treatment for cancer.

With the increase in global life expectancy, maintaining health into old age becomes a challenge, and research has thus concentrated on various strategies which aimed to mitigate the effects of skin aging. Aromatic plants stand out as promising sources of anti-aging compounds due to their secondary metabolites, particularly essential oils (EOs). The aim of this study was to ascribe to Ferulago lutea EO several biological activities that could be useful in the context of skin aging. The EO was obtained using hydrodistillation and characterized by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC/MS). The anti-inflammatory potential was assessed using lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated macrophages. The effect on cell migration was disclosed using scratch wound assay. Lipogenesis was induced using T0901317, hyperpigmentation with 3-isobutyl-1-methylxantine (IBMX) and senescence with etoposide. Our results show that the EO was characterized mainly by α-pinene and limonene. The EO was able to decrease nitric oxide (NO) release as well as iNOS and pro-IL-1ß protein levels. The EO promoted wound healing while decreasing lipogenesis and having depigmenting effects. The EO also reduced senescence-associated ß-galactosidase, p21/p53 protein levels and the nuclear accumulation of γH2AX. Overall, our study highlights the properties of F. lutea EO that make it a compelling candidate for dermocosmetics applications.

RESUMO

Skene's gland duct cysts are benign, asymptomatic bulging interlabial masses that are rarely identified in female newborns. The aetiology is unknown, but it is commonly associated with in utero maternal oestrogen exposure or obstruction or stenosis of the gland duct. We report three unrelated cases of neonatal Skene's gland duct cysts that resolved spontaneously without the need for surgical intervention.

Introduction - Glycogen storage disease type V (GSDV, MIM #232600) is an autosomal recessive metabolic myopathy caused by pathogenic variants in the PYGM gene. The characteristic symptoms of exercise intolerance, myalgia, and cramps, which improve after a few minutes of rest, are frequently unrecognized in affected children. When there is clinical suspicion, the initial approach with a forearm exercise test has diagnostic value by detecting low post-exercise plasma lactate-to-ammonia ratio values. The diagnostic algorithm is followed by genetic testing if the results suggest myophosphorylase deficiency. Methods - This was a retrospective observational study conducted based on reviewing medical records of patients with GSDV in a tertiary hospital. We assessed demographic variables, including the timing of onset and diagnosis, relevant clinical characteristics, and whether genetic testing was performed, including its results. Results/Case Report - Our goal was to review the GSDV cases in our center to assess our cohort's diagnostic timing and clinical and genetic characteristics. We identified 28 patients from 24 families, three with consanguinity. The mean age at the time of the study was 43 years. While most (26/28; 93%) recalled their first symptoms in childhood/adolescence, only 25% (7/28) were diagnosed then. All patients had exercise intolerance and CK elevation, while about half reported the second wind phenomenon. Genetic testing was performed in 22 patients, revealing biallelic PYGM variants (9 homozygous, 13 compound heterozygous) as the most common (p.R50*). Conclusion - GSDV is rare and presents in the pediatric age, with subtle manifestations often underestimated for decades. A late diagnosis may negatively impact the psychosocial development of affected children. It is essential to recognize some unique features that facilitate diagnosis: history of exercise intolerance, the second wind sign, and high resting serum CK levels. Identifying the disease-causing variants in PYGM is currently the gold standard for diagnosis as it is less invasive than performing a muscle biopsy, and may promptly diagnose the condition and avoid wrongful labelling of patients.

The early and non-invasive diagnosis of tumor diseases has been widely investigated by the scientific community focusing on the development of sensors/biomarkers that act as a way of recognizing the adhesion of circulating tumor cells (CTCs). As a challenge in this area, strategies for CTCs capture and enrichment currently require improvements in the sensors/biomarker's selectivity. This can be achieved by understanding the biological recognition factors for different cancer cell lines and also by understanding the interaction between surface parameters and the affinity between macromolecules and the cell surface. To overcome some of these concerns, electrochemical sensors have been used as precise, fast-response, and low-cost transduction platforms for application in cytosensors. Additionally, distinct materials, geometries, and technologies have been investigated to improve the sensitivity and specificity properties of the support electrode that will transform biochemical events into electrical signals. This review identifies novel approaches regarding the application of different specific biomarkers (CD44, Integrins, and EpCAm) for capturing CTCs. These biomarkers can be applied in electrochemical biosensors as a cytodetection strategy for diagnosis of cancerous diseases.

Response surface methodology (RSM) consists of mathematical and statistical techniques to develop models which help to understand the influence of various factors on a dependent variable of interest. The feasibility of RSM use to detect cases of periodontitis and its correlated factors has not yet been evaluated. This study developed mathematical models for periodontitis diagnosis independent of periodontal probing using the RSM. Demographic, socioeconomic, behavioral, systemic, local factors, and periodontitis were assessed in 176 volunteers. Periodontitis case was defined according to three different definitions: 1) ≥3 sites with clinical attachment level (CAL) ≥4 mm; 2) at least one site with CAL ≥4 mm and bleeding on probing; 3) ≥2 proximal sites with CAL ≥3 mm and ≥2 proximal sites with probing depth (PD) ≥4 mm (not on the same tooth) OR 1 site with PD ≥5 mm. 4th-degree polynomial equations showed high coefficients of determination (R²= 1) and were used to represent the mathematical models of periodontitis cases. According to definition 1, the diagnosis of periodontitis was accurate by including in the model: age, sex, education level, plaque index (PI), number of missing teeth, previous hygiene instructions, and body mass index (BMI). According to definition 2, the diagnosis of periodontitis was accurate by including in the model: age, sex, education level, income, PI, previous oral hygiene instructions, frequency of brushing and type of toothbrush, and use of mouthwash in the model. For an accurate diagnosis of periodontitis according to definition 3, the model included: age, education level, IP, number of missing teeth, previous oral hygiene instruction, BMI, and diabetes. The multifactorial mathematical models were able to diagnosis periodontitis according to different periodontitis case definitions using only variables of easy evaluation and non-invasive. (AU)


A metodologia de superfície de resposta (MSR) consiste em técnicas matemáticas e estatísticas para desenvolver modelos que ajudam a entender a influência de vários fatores em uma variável dependente de interesse. A viabilidade do uso da MSR para detectar casos de periodontite e seus fatores correlacionados ainda não foi avaliada. Este estudo desenvolveu modelos matemáticos para diagnóstico de periodontite independente da sondagem periodontal usando a MSR. Fatores demográficos, socioeconômicos, comportamentais, sistêmicos, locais e periodontite foram avaliados em 176 voluntários. O caso de periodontite foi definido de acordo com três definições diferentes: 1) ≥3 locais com nível de inserção clínica (NIC) ≥4 mm; 2) Um local com NIC ≥4 mm e sangramento à sondagem; 3) ≥2 locais proximais com NIC ≥3 mm e ≥2 locais proximais com profundidade de sondagem (PS) ≥4 mm (não no mesmo dente) OU 1 local com PS ≥5 mm. Equações polinomiais de 4º grau apresentaram altos coeficientes de determinação (R²= 1) e foram utilizadas para representar os modelos matemáticos dos casos de periodontite. De acordo com a definição 1, o diagnóstico de periodontite foi preciso ao incluir no modelo: idade, sexo, escolaridade, índice de placa (IP), número de dentes perdidos, instruções de higiene anteriores e índice de massa corporal (IMC). De acordo com a definição 2, o diagnóstico de periodontite foi preciso ao incluir no modelo: idade, sexo, escolaridade, renda, IP, instruções prévias de higiene bucal, frequência de escovação e tipo de escova dental e uso de enxaguatório bucal no modelo. Para um diagnóstico preciso de periodontite de acordo com a definição 3, o modelo incluiu: idade, escolaridade, IP, número de dentes perdidos, instrução prévia de higiene oral, IMC e diabetes. Os modelos matemáticos multifatoriais foram capazes de diagnosticar a periodontite de acordo com diferentes definições de casos de periodontite usando apenas variáveis de fácil avaliação e não invasivas. Fungal infections are associated with high morbidity and mortality rates, being highly prevalent in patients with underlying health complications such as chronic lung disease, HIV, cancer, and diabetes mellitus. To mitigate these infections, the development of effective antifungals is imperative, with plants standing out as promising sources of bioactive compounds. In the present study, we focus on the antibiofilm potential of Lavandula multifida essential oil (EO) against dermatophyte strains and Candida albicans. The EO was characterized using GC and GC-MS, and its antifungal effect was assessed on both biofilm formation and disruption. Biofilm mass, extracellular matrix, and viability were quantified using crystal violet, safranin, and XTT assays, respectively, and morphological alterations were confirmed using optical and scanning electron microscopy. L. multifida EO showed very high amounts of carvacrol and was very effective in inhibiting and disrupting fungal biofilms. The EO significantly decreased biofilm mass and viability in all tested fungi. In addition, a reduction in dermatophytes' extracellular matrix was observed, particularly during biofilm formation. Morphological alterations were evident in mature biofilms, with a clear decrease in hypha diameter. These promising results support the use of L. multifida EO in the development of effective plant-based antifungal products.

Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) are essential for defence against pathogens in all living organisms and possessed activities against bacteria, fungi, viruses, parasites and even cancer cells. AMPs are short peptides containing 12-100 amino acids conferring a net positive charge and an amphiphilic property in most cases. Although, anionic AMPs also exist. AMPs can be classified based on the types of secondary structures, charge, hydrophobicity, amino acid composition, length, etc. Their mechanism of action usually includes a membrane disruption process through pore formation (three different models have been described, barrel-stave, toroidal or carpet model) but AMPs can also penetrate and impair intracellular functions. Besides their activity against pathogens, they have also shown immunomodulatory properties in complex scenarios through many different interactions. The aim of this review to summarize knowledge about AMP's and discuss the potential application of AMPs as therapeutics, the challenges due to their limitations, including their susceptibility to degradation, the potential generation of AMP resistance, cost, etc. We also discuss the current FDA-approved drugs based on AMPs and strategies to circumvent natural AMPs' limitations.

COVID-2019 has resulted in an emerging respiratory infection that has spread as a pandemic since January 2020. Nuclear Medicine Services and its workers experienced a dramatic change in their clinical routine. They were required to adjust protocols for this new health condition. Regarding radioiodine therapy (RIT), initial orientations were to postpone treatments. In Brazil, National Nuclear Energy Commission prepared guidelines. It authorized RIT to employ activities over 1850 MBq in an outpatient setting on an exceptional basis. This study reports the RIT experience of a Brazilian hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic, intending to evaluate the applicability of outpatient treatment employing over 1850 MBq of I-131 on a large scale. During referred period, 106 patients at our service had an indication for RIT, of which 58 agreed to participate in the research and provided informed consent. Majority of patients did not meet the minimum requirements for outpatient treatment using doses > 1850 MBq.
