RESUMO

Recent advancements in plant regeneration and synthetic polyploid creation have been documented in Gossypium arboreum ZB-1. These developments make ZB-1 a potential model within the Gossypium genus for investigating gene function and polyploidy. This work generated the sequence and annotation of the ZB-1 genome. The contig-level genome was constructed using the PacBio high-fidelity reads, encompassing 81 contigs with an N50 length of 112.12 Mb. The Hi-C data assisted the construction of the chromosome-level genome, which consists of 13 pseudo-chromosomes and 39 un-anchored contigs, with a total length of about 1.67 Gb. Repetitive sequences accounted for about 69.7% of the genome in length. Based on ab initio and evidence-based prediction, we have identified 48,021 protein-coding genes in the ZB-1 genome. Comparative genomics analysis revealed conserved gene content and arrangement between ZB-1 and G. arboreum SXY1. The single nucleotide polymorphism occurrence rate between ZB-1 and SXY1 was about 0.54 per 1,000 nucleotides. This study enriched the genomic resources for further exploration into cotton regeneration and polyploidy mechanisms.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Gene expression pattern is associated with biological phenotype and is widely used in exploring gene functions. Its evolution is also crucial in understanding species speciation and divergence. The genus Gossypium is a bona fide model for studying plant evolution and polyploidization. However, the evolution of gene expression during cotton species divergence has yet to be extensively discussed. RESULTS: Based on the seedling leaf transcriptomes, this work analyzed the transcriptomic content and expression patterns across eight cotton species, including six diploids and two natural tetraploids. Our findings indicate that, while the biological function of these cotton transcriptomes remains largely conserved, there has been significant variation in transcriptomic content during species divergence. Furthermore, we conducted a comprehensive analysis of expression distances across cotton species. This analysis lends further support to the use of G. arboreum as a substitute for the A-genome donor of natural cotton polyploids. Moreover, our research highlights the evolution of stress-responsive pathways, including hormone signaling, fatty acid degradation, and flavonoid biosynthesis. These processes appear to have evolved under lower selection pressures, presumably reflecting their critical role in the adaptations of the studied cotton species to diverse environments. CONCLUSIONS: In summary, this study provided insights into the gene expression variation within the genus Gossypium and identified essential genes/pathways whose expression evolution was closely associated with the evolution of cotton species. Furthermore, the method of characterizing genes and pathways under unexpected high or slow selection pressure can also serve as a new strategy for gene function exploration.

RESUMO

MYB transcription factors are one of the largest TF families involved in plant growth and development as well as biotic and abiotic stresses. In this study, we report the identification and functional characterization of a stress-responsive MYB gene (GhMYB3) from drought stress related transcriptome of upland cotton. GhMYB3, belonging to the R2R3-type, has high sequence similarity with AtMYB3 and was localized in the nucleus. Silence of GhMYB3 enhanced the drought tolerance of cotton seedlings and plants, reduced the water loss rate, and enhanced stomatal closure. In addition, GhMYB3i lines exhibited less ROS accumulation, as well as higher antioxidant enzyme activity and increased content of anthocyanins and proanthocyanidins than WT plants after drought stress. The expression level of flavonoid biosynthesis- and stress-related genes were up-regulated in GhMYB3i lines under drought stress condition. These results demonstrated that GhMYB3 acted as a negative regulator in upland cotton response to drought stress by regulating stomatal closure and ROS accumulation.

RESUMO

Background: Since the discovery of the immunomodulatory functions of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), their application in immunomodulation has attracted considerable attention, and an increasing number of studies have been conducted worldwide. Our research aimed to investigate the global status and trends in this field. Methods: Publications on the immunomodulatory functions of MSCs from 1 January 2000 to 7 March 2022 were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection. The data were studied and indexed using the bibliometric methodology. Visualization analysis, co-authorship, co-occurrence analysis, and publication trends in MSC immunomodulation were conducted using the VOSviewer software. Results: In total, 4,227 papers were included in the study. The number of publications and research interests has significantly increased globally. China published the highest number of related articles, while the US published articles with the highest number of citations. Stem Cell Research & Therapy had the highest number of publications. Sun Yat-sen University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Harvard University, and Seoul National University were the most contributive institutions. Furthermore, the studies were divided into four research hotspots for MSC immunomodulation: MSC immunomodulation in regenerative medicine, the effects and mechanisms of MSC immunomodulation, MSC therapy for immune diseases, and the cell source of MSCs. Conclusion: This study indicates that the number of publications on MSC immunomodulation will increase in the future, and MSC immunomodulation mechanisms and clinical applications of MSC immunotherapy should be the next hotspots in this research field.

RESUMO

Objective: To summarize the surgical learning curve and preliminary operative experience of dual-robotic navigated minimally invasive treatment on pelvic fractures by TiRobot and Artis Zeego. Methods: Between July 2019 and February 2021, 90 patients with pelvic fractures were treated with dual-robotic navigated minimally invasive surgery by TiRobot and Artis Zeego. There were 64 males and 26 females, with an average age of 46.5 years (range, 13-78 years). Body mass index was 14.67-32.66 kg/m 2 (mean, 23.61 kg/m 2). Causes of injuries included traffic accident in 43 cases, falling from height in 37 cases, low-energy injuries such as flat falls in 10 cases. The interval between injury and surgery was 1-36 days (mean, 7.3 days). According to the location of the implanted screws, the patients were divided into sacroiliac screw group ( n=33), acetabular screw group (acetabulum anterior/posterior column, n=24), composite screws group (sacroiliac and acetabulum anterior/posterior column, n=33). According to the screw implantation time and accuracy, the surgical learning curve was plotted, and the differences in the relevant indicators between learning stage and skilled stage were compared. Results: All 90 patients successfully completed the operation, the intraoperative bleeding volume was 5-200 mL (median, 20 mL). There was no vascular or nerve injury. All incisions healed by first intention. The screw implantation time ranged from 7.5 to 33.0 minutes (mean, 18.92 minutes), and the screw implantation accuracy ranged from 1.1 to 1.8 mm (mean, 1.56 mm). According to the learning curve, the practice stage of 3 groups was reached after 7, 10, and 11 cases, respectively. With the accumulation of surgical experience, the screw implantation time had a significant downward trend. Compared with the learning stage, the screw implantation time on skilled stage in 3 groups significantly shortened ( P<0.05), but the difference in the screw implantation accuracy was not significant ( P>0.05). Conclusion: TiRobot and Artis Zeego assisted pelvic fracture surgery is safe and efficient, which helps the surgeon to quickly master the pelvic channel screw surgery, and the operation time is significantly shortened on the premise of ensuring the implantation accuracy.

RESUMO

Two new Ag(I) coordination polymers, namely [Ag(bpp)]·0.5 n(1,5-NDSA)·n(H2O) (1) and [Ag2(bpp)2]n·n(2,7-NDSA)·2 n(H2O)·n(CH3CN) (2) (Na2(1,5-NDSA) = sodium 1,5-naphthalenedisulfonate dibasic, Na2(2,7-NDSA) = sodium 1,5-naphthalenedisulfonate dibasic, bpp is 1,3-bis(4-pyridyl)propane), were generated via the solution evaporation method under room temperature. Moreover, the solids of these two compounds display strong luminescence emission at RT. And the application values of the compounds against the glioblastoma treatment were determined, and the corresponding mechanism was simultaneously tested. The analysis of CCK-8 was first implemented and the glioblastoma viability was measured. The real-time RT-PCR was next performed, and the signaling pathway activation of VEGF in glioblastoma cells was tested after treating by the above compound.

RESUMO

In this paper, the effects of the structural parameters of magnetic-knitted fabric on human skin microcirculation (HSM) were studied in relation to magnetic polypropylene yarn, which was used as raw material. Three experimental factors were designed: the magnetic powder content of polypropylene, the feeding ratio of magnetic polypropylene (MP) and graphene viscous (GV), and stitch. Twelve pieces of seamless knitted fabric were prepared according to the comprehensive experimental design method. The BIV angiography was used to proceed with an HSM test of about 12 pieces of seamless knitted fabric. The results show the following: The magnetic powder content of polypropylene has the greatest influence on the blood flow promotion multiples of skin-blood microcirculation, followed by the feeding ratio of MP and GV, while stitch has the least influence. When the plating yarn feeding ratio was 100:0, the magnetic powder content of polypropylene was 50%, and the stitch was 1 + 1 false rib, meaning that the fabric could promote HSM more efficiently. This is compared against the common polypropylene knitted fabric, where the blood flow promotion multiples increased by 9.87%. The purpose of this study was to explore the structural parameters of magnetic polypropylene-knitted fabric that has a better effect on promoting HSM, and to provide a reference for the development of functional health-knitted fabrics.

RESUMO

Coexistence of hippocampal sclerosis (HS) and a temporal neocortical lesion, including focal cortical dysplasia, vascular malformations or benign primary brain tumors, is defined as dual pathology. In the majority of cases, the complete evidence based on electroencephalogram (EEG) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for each of the dual pathological lesions is difficult to obtain. As a result, patients with dual pathology are poor surgical candidates due to potential incomplete resection of the epileptogenic zone. The current study retrospectively reviewed 24 patients with potential dual pathology and incomplete EEG and MRI evidence, aiming to provide novel surgical strategies. The results revealed a significantly worse seizure-free outcome for patients with incomplete EEG and MRI data compared with patients who received a clear diagnosis of dual pathology based on complete test results (11.1 vs. 60.0%; P<0.05). Notably, satisfying surgical (seizure-free) outcomes were still achieved in 60% of patients with unclear EEGs to locate the onset zone and clear MRI scans identifying the sclerotic hippocampus and nearby neocortical lesions, which could be resected together. In patients with multiple epileptogenic onsets or with widespread epileptic discharges, the hippocampus should be spared from resection due to concern for potential postsurgical mood or memory disorders. In conclusion, patients with resection of the sclerotic hippocampus and neocortical lesion had improved seizure-free outcomes compared with patients who received individual lesion resection. The current study aimed to provide a novel surgical strategy for neurosurgeons treating epileptic patients with dual pathology.

RESUMO

Polyploidy or genome doubling (i.e., the presence of two or more diploid parental genome sets within an organism) are very important in higher plants. Of particular interest are the mechanisms in the new microenvironment of the common nucleus, where doubled regulatory networks interact to generate a viable genetic system capable of regulating growth, development and responses to the environment. To determine the effects of whole genome merging and doubling on the global gene expression architecture of a new polyploid, derived from protoplast fusion of the A1A1 genome of Gossypium arboreum and the E1E1 genome of Gossypium stocksii, we monitored gene expression through cDNA-AFLP in the somatic hybrids (G. arboreum + G. stocksii). The genomic expression patterns of the somatic hybrids revealed that changes in expression levels mainly involved regulatory genes (31.8% of the gene expression profiles), and the AA and EE genomes contributed equally to genome-wide expression in the newly formed AAEE genome from additivity and dominance effects. These results provide a novel perspective on polyploid gene regulation and hint at the underlying genetic basis of allopolyploid adaption in the new microenvironmental nucleus.

RESUMO

The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of surgical intervention of focal cortical dysplasia (FCD) IIa on the outcome of epilepsy, and to evaluate the prognostic factors of seizure freedom. Patient data from epilepsy surgeries were retrospectively reviewed at the Second Affiliated Hospital of Dalian Medical University between 2007 and 2015. A total of 110 patients with a definite pathological diagnosis of FCD IIa were included. Moreover, the clinical characteristics, seizure outcome and quality of life in adults with FCD IIa were evaluated. The Engel seizure outcome achievements were class I in 72, class II in 20, class III in 11 and class IV in 7 patients. In addition, the Engel seizure outcome was relevant with the resection range of the lesions (P=0.028). The assessments of electrocorticography (ECoG) patterns and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are relevant to determining the extent of the resection, which may influence the surgery outcome (P=0.001 and P=0.023). Using multivariate regression analyses, the extent of resection, seizure frequency, preoperative ECoG and location of resection were the most important risk factors for seizure recurrence. The results of quality of life in epilepsy-10 scoring revealed that the quality of life improved significantly following surgery (P<0.01). Moreover, surgical intervention, EcoG, MRI positioning and complete resection helped to have improved seizure control, relief of anxiety and quality of life. All these observations strongly recommend an early consideration of epilepsy surgery in FCD IIa patients.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Epilepsy remains one of the most common clinical neurological disorders. About a third of patients with epilepsy are refractory to drug treatment, mainly as a result of focal cortical dysplasia (FCD). In this study, we analyzed the aberrant expression of microRNAs (miRNAs) in the cortex and plasma of FCD patients. METHODS: Cortical samples were collected from nine patients with refractory epilepsy caused by FCD who underwent surgery, and from eight volunteers (control group) undergoing emergency surgery for hypertensive cerebral hemorrhage. miRNA expression in the cortex was detected by microarray analysis and miR-323a-5p expression levels in the cortex were analyzed by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). We also collected plasma samples from 30 patients with refractory epilepsy caused by FCD and from 23 healthy controls, and compared differential expression of miR-323a-5p in the plasma using qRT-PCR. RESULTS: miRNA microarray analysis showed that expression of miR-323a-5p was upregulated in the FCD group compared with the control group, and miR-323a-5p expression levels in the cortex analyzed by qRT-PCR supported those obtained by microarray analysis. Plasma levels of miR-323a-5p were significantly higher in patient plasma compared with the healthy controls, as determined by qRT-PCR. Furthermore, expression of miR-323a-5p was positively correlated with the duration of epilepsy (p = 0.014) and seizure frequency (p = 0.043). The effectiveness of surgery in patients with FCD was significantly poorer in patients with high plasma levels of miR-323a-5p compared with those with low levels. CONCLUSIONS: The expression of miR-323a-5p was significantly elevated in the cortex and plasma of FCD patients. These results suggest that abnormal expression of miR-323a-5p could be used for improving the current diagnosis of FCD and monitoring treatment responses in patients with FCD.

RESUMO

Olfactory ensheathing cell tumor (OECT) is one of the most rare intracranial, extra-axial tumors located in the anterior cranial fossa. The present study reports a case of a 34-year-old female patient who presented with a history of hyposmia for 1 year, as well as a gradual dizziness and emotional lability for 2 months. Magnetic resonance imaging of the brain revealed a globose, well-defined cystic mass at the midline of the anterior cranial fossa, which was confirmed as an OECT by histology and was completely resected by bifrontal craniotomy. According to the immunostaining results, the tumor was positive for vimentin and S100 protein, and negative for epithelial membrane antigen, glial fibrillary acidic protein and cluster of differentiation 57 (also known as Leu-7). The presentation, imaging findings, histopathological examination and histogenesis of OECT are discussed in the present study, along with a literature review.

RESUMO

To rescue the oxidative stress induced inhibition of osteogenesis, vitamin C (VC) was chemically modified onto three-dimensional graphene foams (3D GFs), then their regulation on osteogenesis of human bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BM-MSCs) was studied. Combined action of VC + GF significantly decreased H2O2-induced oxidative stress, and rescued H2O2-inhibited cell viability, differentiation and osteogenesis of BM-MSCs in vitro. Further studies revealed that Wnt pathway may be involved in this protection of osteogenesis. Furthermore, an in vivo mouse model of BM-MSCs transplantation showed that VC + GF remarkably rescued oxidative stress inhibited calcium content and bone formation. The combination of VC and GF exhibited more pronounced protective effects against oxidative stress induced inhibition of osteogenesis, compared to monotherapy of VC or GF. Our study proposed a new strategy in stem cell-based therapies for treating bone diseases.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis procedure has been widely applied for long-bone fixations; however, this technique is not commonly used for clavicular midshaft fractures. In this study, we introduced this technique for midshaft clavicular fractures using superior anatomic locking plates and evaluated its clinical and radiographic outcomes. MATERIALS AND METHODS: From June 2013 to July 2014, 15 patients with acute midshaft clavicular fractures were treated with the minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis technique using a 3.5-mm clavicular superior anatomic locking plate. Anteroposterior plain X-ray images of the clavicle were taken at 4-week intervals until union was observed. The last clinical follow-up assessments were performed postoperatively at a mean of 16.54 months (range, 10-23 months). In addition, for clinical evaluations, the Constant score and the Disability of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand score were assessed. RESULTS: The average operative time was 60.2 ± 20.1 minutes (range, 40-80 minutes), with blood loss of 25 ± 5 mL (range, 20-30 mL) during the operation. The mean union time for the patients was 10.1 ± 1.4 weeks (range, 8-12 weeks), and no delayed union or nonunion was observed. There were no major complications, including infections, plate breakages, or neurovascular injuries. No skin irritation was observed, and only 2 patients felt local incision numbness. All patients obtained satisfactory shoulder functions. The mean Constant score was 99 ± 1.8 (range, 95-100), and the mean Disability of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand score was 3.8 ± 2.9 (range, 0-10) at the last control visit. CONCLUSION: The minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis procedure that was introduced in this study for midshaft clavicular fractures with superior anatomic locking plate is a reproducible procedure and an alternative to conventional operative methods.

RESUMO

Early biomarker-based diagnosis of focal cortical dysplasia (FCD) represents a major clinical challenge. The aim of this study was to identify novel brain microRNAs (miRNAs) in patients with refractory epilepsy and FCD as potential biomarkers. We evaluated serum hsa-miR-4521 as a promising novel biomarker in patients with FCD. Tissue for microarray was obtained from nine patients with temporal lobe refractory epilepsy who underwent surgery to remove epileptic foci identified by cortical video electroencephalogram monitoring. Control tissue was collected from eight patients with hypertension who required emergency surgery to remove an intracranial hematoma. The Affymetrix® GeneChip® Command Console® Software (Affymetrix miRNA 4.0) was used to compare miRNA expression in the cerebral cortex of experimental and control patients. Temporal cortex tissue and serum samples were taken from the same patients for verification of hsa-miR-4521 expression by real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR). The experimental and control patients did not differ significantly in terms of age and gender. 19.4 % (148/764) of the total miRNAs were differentially expressed in experimental and control tissue, which is in agreement with the existing literature. We selected miRNA-4521 for further analysis; the fold-change in expression was 14.4707 and the q value was almost 0, which confirmed up-regulation. Significant up-regulation of hsa-miR-4521 was further validated by RT-qPCR. miRNA microarrays can efficiently and conveniently identify differentially expressed miRNAs in epilepsy brain tissue. This is the first study to identify differential expression of hsa-miR-4521 in brain tissue and serum of refractory epilepsy patients and suggests that serum hsa-miR-4521 may represent a potential diagnostic biomarker for FCD with refractory epilepsy.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Overexpression of adenosine triphosphate-binding cassette (ATP-binding cassette (ABC)) transporters may contribute to intractable epilepsy (IE) by reducing brain accumulation of antiepileptic drugs (AEDs). We conducted a meta-analysis of studies on expression and cellular distribution of multidrug resistance-associated protein 1 (MRP1) in IE patients to evaluate the contribution of this protein to AED resistance. In addition, we summarize experiments examining MRP1 expression and substrates in animal models of IE. METHODS: The literature search based on pre-established inclusion and exclusion criteria, as well as quality assessment, data extraction and statistical analyses were conducted concurrently by two independent researchers. We identified nine high-quality studies (Jadad score ≥3) published between 2000 and 2014 on the expression and cellular distribution of MRP1 in IE patients. A fixed effect model was used to calculate pooled odds ratios (ORs) and corresponding 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs). Forest and funnel plots were constructed to assess study heterogeneity and publication bias, respectively. RESULTS: MRP1 expression was significantly higher in both astrocytes (OR = 17.04, 95% CI: 7.69-37.76, P < 0.00001) and neurons (OR = 22.13, 95% CI: 8.52-57.46, P < 0.00001) of IE patients compared to controls, while there was no significant difference in endothelial cell MRP1 expression (OR: 1.47, 95% CI: 0.09-1.79, P = 0.48). Funnel plot symmetry indicated no substantial publication bias. Most relevant preclinical studies from 2000 to 2014 found higher MRP1 expression in IE model rodents. Furthermore, MRP1 overexpression reduced the extracellular concentration of AEDs in brain, while MRP1 inhibitors enhanced brain AED concentrations. CONCLUSION: Pooled results strongly suggest that MRP1 is overexpressed in both neurons and astrocytes of IE patients. Inhibition of MRP1 may enhance AED efficacy by increasing local drug availability.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Hook plate (HP) is popularly used for acute and severely displaced acromioclavicular (AC) dislocations. However, subacromial impingement and acromion osteolysis induced by transarticular fixation are notorious. The current case-control study was to compare transarticular fixation by HP to coracoclavicular (CC) stabilization by single multistrand titanium cable (MSTC). METHODS: Between January 2006 and August 2009, 24 patients with acute AC dislocations were surgically treated by open reduction and transarticular fixation with HP. These patients were matched to a series of 24 patients, who were managed by CC stabilization with MSTC in the same period. All AC dislocations were graded as Rockwood type V. Implant was removed 8-12 months after the primary operation in all patients, and 12 months at least were needed to assess the maintenance of AC joint. Functional results were evaluated before implant removal as well as in the last follow-up based on Constant-Murley criteria. RESULTS: There were no differences of demographic data including age, dominant gender and side, injury-to-surgery interval, operation time and follow-up period. In terms of functionality, Constant score was 95.8 ± 4.1 in MSTC group, while 76.7 ± 8.0 in HP group before implant removal (P < 0.001). In detail, MSTC was superior to HP in pain, ROM and activities. Constant score was significantly improved to 86.1 ± 5.7 after hardware removal for patients in HP (P < 0.001). Degenerative change of acromioclavicular joint presented in 16 patients (66.7%) in patients treated by HP, while it was found in only 3 patients (12.5%) treated by MSTC (P < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: MSTC is superior to HP for the treatment of Rockwood type-V acromioclavicular dislocation both before and after removal of the implant. Hardware removal is of great benefits for functional improvement in patients treated by HP.

RESUMO

miRNA-125 family, which is a highly conserved miRNA family throughout evolution, is consist of miRNA-125a-3p, miRNA-125a-5p, miRNA-125b-1 and miRNA-125b-2.The aberrant expression of miR-125 familyis tightly related to tumorigenesis and tumor development. The downstream targets of miRNA-125 include transcription factors like STAT3, cytokines like IL-6 and TGF-ß, tumor suppressing protein p53, pro-apoptotic protein Bak1 and RNA binding protein HuR et al. Through regulating these downstream targets miR-125 family is involved in regulating tumorigenesis and tumor development. Nowadays, miR-125b have already became a putative and valuable biomarker for cancer diagnosis, treatment and prognosis. In this review, we mainly summarize the dual function of miRNA-125 family in suppression and promotion of cancer cells and further elaborate its regulatory mechanisms from four facets, proliferation, apoptosis, invasion or metastasis and immune response.

RESUMO

Transcription activator-like effectors (TALEs) are a class of sequence-specific DNA-binding proteins that utilize a simple and predictable modality to recognize target DNA. This unique characteristic allows for the rapid assembly of artificial TALEs, with high DNA binding specificity, to any target DNA sequences for the creation of customizable sequence-specific nucleases used in genome engineering. Here, we report the use of an artificial TALE protein as a convenient platform for designing broad-spectrum resistance to begomoviruses, one of the most destructive plant virus groups, which cause tremendous losses worldwide. We showed that artificial TALEs, which were assembled based on conserved sequence motifs within begomovirus genomes, could confer partial resistance in transgenic Nicotiana benthamiana to all three begomoviruses tested. Furthermore, the resistance was maintained even in the presence of their betasatellite. These results shed new light on the development of broad-spectrum resistance against DNA viruses, such as begomoviruses.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: Delayed surgical management of acetabular fractures, often necessary due to life-threatening concomitant injuries, is a great challenge because delays may potentially increase complications and decrease outcomes. We report clinical outcomes of 61 acetabular fractures treated by delayed open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) with an injury-to-surgery interval (ISI) of 22-399 days. METHODS: Operations were performed between April 2001 and December 2008. There were 61 cases (42 men 19 women), with an average age of 38 years. All patients were followed for an average of 82 months. Demographic data, fracture pattern, ISI, concomitant injuries, surgical approach, complications and clinical outcomes were recorded and analysed. There were 16 simple fractures (26.2%) and 45 associated fractures (73.8%). Matta criteria were used to evaluate reduction quality. The Merle d'Aubigné and Postel scoring system was employed to assess post-operative functionality. RESULTS: Anatomical reduction was achieved in 45 cases (73.8%). The clinical result was excellent in 38 cases, good in 13, fair in six and poor in four. Osteonecrosis of the femoral head was observed in three cases, and heterotopic ossification was found in 28 cases. Four patients had transient palsy of the sciatic nerve. CONCLUSIONS: ORIF for fresh acetabular fractures might yield a better prognosis; however, for delayed acetabular fractures, clinical outcomes are also predictable when sophisticated surgical techniques are employed. Our results indicate that delayed ORIF could yield satisfactory clinical outcomes in the majority of patients with acetabular fractures.
