BACKGROUND: Osseointegration is essential for the long-term survival of cementless femoral stems and is dependent on periprosthetic bone quality and correct implantation technique. The aim of this study was to evaluate the 3-dimensional long-term fixation patterns of, and bone microarchitecture around, cementless hip stems. METHODS: Four specimens with varying degrees of bone quality and fixation characteristics from body donors who had received Alloclassic Zweymüller hip stems during their lifetime (mean time in situ at the time of death: 12.73 years) were evaluated with use of radiographs, high-resolution computed tomography (CT) scans, and hard-tissue histology. The CT voxel size was 85 µm, and the following parameters were calculated: total bone volume, total bone volume fraction, trabecular bone volume, trabecular bone volume fraction, cortical bone volume, cortical bone volume fraction, and cortical thickness. Bone-implant contact and canal fill index values for each Gruen zone of the specimens were calculated with use of histological samples. RESULTS: Femoral stems with apparently good cortical contact on clinical radiographs showed higher values for cortical bone volume, trabecular bone volume, and cortical thickness in the high-resolution CT analysis than femoral stems with apparently weak cortical contact on clinical radiographs. Based on the histological evaluation, the mean bone-implant contact ranged from 22.94% to 57.24% and the mean canal fill index ranged from 52.33% to 69.67% among the specimens. CONCLUSIONS: This study demonstrated different osseointegration patterns of cementless femoral stems on the basis of radiographs, high-resolution CT scans, and histological evaluation. Femora with high cortical bone volume and cortical thickness were associated with higher canal fill indices, whereas femora with low cortical bone volume and cortical thickness had lower canal fill indices and showed a characteristic corner-anchorage pattern. CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Osseointegration patterns and thus the long-term survival of cementless femoral stems are dependent on cortical bone volume and cortical thickness.

BACKGROUND: A diagnosis by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is often necessary before surgery of degenerative spine diseases. This can lead to a possible conflict with an inserted implant of the hip or knee. Heat generation or movement could be caused by the magnetic field. The aim of this study is to investigate temperature development in vitro in a 1.5T MRI of a ceramic knee arthroplasty. METHODS: A full ceramic, complete metal-free non-constrained primary total knee arthroplasty is investigated. Temperature change was measured between platinum resistors before and after each MRI sequence by change of resistance. The knee implant was placed in a plastic container after the sensors were attached. Then the container was completely filled with ultrasound gel. To document any possible movement of the implant, a grid was placed under the container to document the position of the implant before and after the scans. RESULTS: A total of four standard knee sequences were performed. The temperature at sites 1 to 5 per implant was always documented in the as-is state before MRI and then after each sequence. A total of 5 temperature measurement points were taken per implant. It was found that there were extremely small temperature variations. These were always in the range of less than 1°C. There was no case of movement of the implant triggered by the MRI scan. CONCLUSIONS: The experimental investigations carried out here showed homogeneous results with this experimental setup. It is concluded that, at least in vitro, that this ceramic knee implant can be used in MRI examinations without heating or movement.

OBJECTIVE: This paper deals with scoliosis treatment over the past 50 years. The review of the literature from the point of view of the current formation of opinion. From conservative forms of treatment, the pendulum has swung to surgical measures. To visualize this temporarily rejection of conservative treatment is the goal of this article. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A review of the literature over the last 50 years was performed from the perspective of current opinion, this with a pinch of personal experience in bracing and scoliosis surgery since 1972. The MESH terms (scoliosis, idiopathic scoliosis, adolescent idiopathic scoliosis) are presented in their number in a flow diagram and the publications on conservative therapies (brace, physiotherapy) are compared to surgical therapies (surgery).Opinions of "eminences" in the 1980s have been replaced by the rules of evidence-based medicine (EBM) at end of the 1990s. This transition will be visualized in the graph of PubMed statistics. In a statement, the future scoliosis treatment is derived from history. RESULTS: The total number of publications shows a ratio of brace to surgery of 13.9% and physiotherapy to surgery of 6.7% for the MESH terms "scoliosis". When "scoliosis" is supplemented with "idiopathic", the brace to surgery ratio changes from 24.5% and physiotherapy to surgery 8.2%. Focusing on adolescent scoliosis the addition of "adolescent" changes the brace to surgery ratio from 24.8% and physiotherapy to surgery 8.1%. In the total number of publications, "adolescent idiopathic scoliosis" is treated by 25.26%. The patient numbers of our own scoliosis outpatient clinic (1482 patients) over the last 15 years show a ratio of brace (Cobb angle 20°-50° brace-indication) to surgery (Cobb angle >50° indication to surgery) of 1 to 0.06. The scientific focus on surgical therapy is evident from the figures of PubMed mentioned. The number of conservative publications shows a depression in the 1990s. In the remainder of this article, opinion-forming developments are outlined and supported by literature citations, responsible for the recovery of publications on conservative scoliosis treatment. New technologies provide additional treatment options. CONCLUSIONS: In this sense, brace therapy is a success story with a future in the digital world of AI (artificial intelligence), mathematical model calculations, and production perhaps from the 3D printer. The central message from the history of the last 50 years is: "The scientific review of treatment results is essential for the further acceptance of brace treatment."

RESUMO

Due to demographic transition an increasing number of primary knee arthroplasty is expected. A consequence is a rise in frequency in revision knee arthroplasty. Rotating hinge prostheses are a development of former hinge prostheses, due to changes in implant design the outcome of modern rotating hinge implants clearly improved in comparison to former models. Interpretation of outcome in present literature is difficult due to the small number of cases and the heterogeneous indications. Nevertheless the use of rotating hinge knee prostheses in primary and revision arthroplasty is associated with good clinical outcomes, when indicated appropriately.

The aim of this prospective study was to evaluate the efficiency of early versus delayed treatment of vertebral fractures by balloon kyphoplasty with regard to fracture age. A total of 106 patients (37 male and 69 female) with 128 vertebral body fractures, an average age of 67.5 years (21 to 92) and a body mass index of 26.4 (16 to 40.4) were recorded. All fractures were evaluated radiologically and clinically. Pain intensity (visual analogue scale 0-10), analgesics consumption (WHO steps 1 to 3) and the relevant surgery data (operating time, cement consumption, complications) were recorded. 37 A 1.1, 43 A 1.2, 43 A 1.3, 4 A 3.1 and 1 A 2.3 classifications were collected. Fracture age in days was less than 23 days in 75 patients; the mean time of surgery was 43 minutes. Analgesics consumption was reduced from 1.8 ±â€Š0.8 preoperatively to 1.0 ±â€Š0.6 postoperatively. A significant improvement was found in pain intensity, which fell significantly from 8.2 ±â€Š0.9 preoperatively to 3.9 ±â€Š0.8 postoperatively. In relation to fracture age and pain intensity, a significantly higher pain reduction was achieved with timing of kyphoplasty between 0 and 23 days. Here, pain intensity decreased to 2.5 ±â€Š0.5 postoperatively, compared with 4.5 ±â€Š0.4 for fractures treated later. Fracture age had no influence on vertebral body alignment or improvement of the kyphotic angle. In summary, it can be stated that balloon kyphoplasty is a sufficient method to treat vertebral body fractures, to improve the kyphotic angle and reduce pain significantly.

Acute acromioclavicular (AC) joint dislocation is a frequent sports injury with more than 100 different operation methods described. A total of 65 patients with an acute AC joint dislocation were treated with the modified MINAR® system between 2009 and 2013. Clinical outcome, horizontal and vertical instability, as well as concomitant intraarticular injuries were assessed. We used Zanca, stress and axial X-rays for radiological assessment. A Constant score of 95 (±8.8), University of California Los Angeles Shoulder score (UCLA) of 31 (±4.9), Disabilities of Arm, Shoulder and Hand (DASH) of 9.1 (±14.3), and Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) of 0.9 (±0.126) was found. A total of 30 patients (59%) had no signs of reduction loss, nine patients (18%) a slight loss, 11 patients (22%) a partial loss, and one patient (2%) a total loss. No significant influence on the clinical scores could be shown. The postoperative coracoclavicular (CC) distance negatively affected the Constant (p = 0.007) and UCLA scores (p = 0.035). A longer time interval to surgery had a negative influence on all scores (p ≤ 0.001). We could not find any signs of persistent horizontal instability or intraarticular injuries at follow-up. The MINAR® system promises satisfactory functional and radiological results. When setting the correct indication, patients benefit from an early operation. No persisting horizontal instability was observed following suturing of the AC capsule and the delta fascia.

BACKGROUND: The bone marrow (BM) is a major reservoir of resting memory T cells and long-lived plasma cells, capable of providing protection against recurrent infections. Whether the age-related accumulation of adipose tissue in the BM affects the functionality and maintenance of memory cells is not well understood. METHODS: For the first time, we compare human femur marrow adipose tissue (fMAT) and subcutaneous white adipose tissue of the thigh (tsWAT) obtained from the same donors. Therefore, we used microarrays for comparative global gene expression analysis, and employed assays to analyse parameters of adipocyte biology, inflammation and oxidative stress. FINDINGS: We show that fMAT adipocytes differ significantly from tsWAT adipocytes regarding specific gene expression profiles including inflammatory responses and adipogenesis/adipocyte phenotype. Concomitant with considerably lower levels of CD36, a membrane-associated protein important for long-chain fatty acid uptake that is used as maturation marker, fMAT adipocytes are smaller and contain less triglycerides. fMAT adipocytes secrete similar levels of adiponectin and leptin as tsWAT adipocytes, and express increased levels of pro-inflammatory molecules concomitant with an elevated generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and impaired function of plasma cells in the BM. INTERPRETATION: Our findings suggest that fMAT is a unique type of adipose tissue containing small adipocytes with lower CD36 protein and triglyceride levels than tsWAT but high adipokine secretion. Moreover, fMAT adipocytes secrete high levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines, contributing to inflammation and impairment of plasma cell function in the BM, suggesting that fMAT has more immune regulatory functions than tsWAT.

AIMS: The aim of this open-label, prospective, short-term study was to carry out an initial comparison of a completely metal-free ceramic with a geometrically identical metallic arthroplasty over a 1-year follow-up period. METHODS: This study investigates a completely metal-free system using a composite matrix material containing aluminum oxide (Al2O3, BPK-S Integration, Peter Brehm GmbH, Weisendorf, Germany) or zirconium oxide (ZrO2, BPK-S Integration Ceramic, Biolox Delta-CeramTec GmbH, Plochingen, Germany). Eighty patients (40 in each group) received either a completely metal-free ceramic system (matrix of aluminum and zirconium oxide) or an anatomically identical metallic knee system made of a cobalt-chromium alloy. Clinical assessment was performed preoperatively, and during follow-up at 3 and 12 months, using the Knee Society Score, Oxford Knee Score, and EQ-5D-VAS. For radiological evaluation, standard preoperative and postoperative standardized radiographs were taken at the given follow-up visits. RESULTS: The postoperative clinical scores improved significantly at the 3- and 12-month follow-ups, but did not differ statistically between the two groups. The radiologically evaluated mean postoperative mechanical and anatomical axes showed proper alignment within both groups at all times. No revision surgery had to be performed, and no complications or loosening were recorded whatsoever. CONCLUSIONS: To our knowledge, this is the first study comparing a total ceramic metal-free knee system with a geometrically identical metallic TKA (total knee arthroplasty). Longer follow-ups will be required to demonstrate the overall efficiency of this TKR and perhaps to expand its medical indication.

OBJECTIVE: The popularity of simulation in the medical field has increased dramatically over the last decades. However, the majority of studies focused on laparoscopic or other endoscopic procedures. In this study, participants performed an image-guided surgery task on a novel spine simulator. Face, content, construct, and concurrent validity were examined. DESIGN: A surgical access through both pedicles (transpedicular) into the vertebral body of artificial L3 vertebrae was performed. Questionnaires, a simulation-based performance score, and a specialist rating were used to evaluate the various forms of validity. SETTING: Klinikum Wels-Grieskirchen, Wels, Austria; tertiary hospital PARTICIPANTS: According to their expertise in image-guided surgery and pedicle tool insertions, 43 participants were subdivided into 3 groups: 22 novices, 12 intermediates, and 9 experts. RESULTS: Of the novice group, the vast majorities were impressed with the attractiveness and the general appearance of the simulator. The majority of intermediates (92%) and experts (89%) would recommend the simulator to others. According to a simulation-based performance score, experts performed significantly better than novices (p = 0.001, d = 1.52) and intermediates (p = 0.01, d = 1.26). The association between the simulation-based performance score and the specialist rating was strong (R = 0.86, p < 0.01). CONCLUSIONS: The novel spine simulator provides an applicable tool for the training of image-guided surgery skills in a realistic design. Its simulation-based assessment score classifies different levels of expertise accurately.

Instabilities of the cervical spine after complete or incomplete corpectomy may be the result from resection due to stenosis induced myelopathy, tumors, infections or fractures. In this article, we report a 49-year-old female patient after surgical decompression and stabilization at C5/7 with permanent cervicobrachialgia due to cervical stenosis at C5/7. Corpectomy of C6 and stabilization of C5/7 were performed with a combination of cage and plate. At an outpatient control 16 months after reoperation, the patient complained of neck pain, while the control X-ray showed a fracture of the implant. Due to instability of the device, a revision was indicated, resulting in removal of all components with restabilization. Definitive stabilization was performed with a PINA® cage, discectomy and cage implantation at C4/5 and C7/Th1 and a plate from C4 to Th1 with screw fixation in C4/5/Th1. Postoperative course was complication free and the patient was without pain or neurological symptoms at follow-up after 12 months with all implants in radiologically regular position. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case report to describe such a complication.

OBJECTIVES: This study aims to evaluate the nitinol (X-Fuse®) implant in arthrodesis of the distal interphalangeal and the thumb joints with respect to bone fusion and clinical efficiency. PATIENTS AND METHODS: This prospective study included 24 consecutive patients (7 males, 17 females; mean age 56.8 years; range 27 to 79 years) with nitinol (X-Fuse®) implants in their 41 joints. All patients were followed-up clinically and radiographically with respect to fusion, complications and outcome at a minimum of 14 months postoperatively (mean 28±6 months). X-rays, Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand, and visual analog scale scores were recorded preoperatively and at postoperative fifth week, third month, first year, and subsequent visits. RESULTS: The Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand score improved significantly from preoperative 37.7 points to postoperative 14.5 points at first year. The visual analog scale score improved significantly from preoperative 5.5 to postoperative 0.85 points at first year. Failure to fuse only occurred in two joints (5%), resulting in fusion after reoperation. No other severe complications such as deep infection, intraoperative fracture, wound healing problems or regional dystrophy were observed. CONCLUSION: The X-Fuse® implant may be a reliable alternative method for finger joint arthrodesis.

Cytomegalovirus (CMV) has been described as a contributor to immunosenescence, thus exacerbating age-related diseases. In persons with latent CMV infection, the CD8+ T cell compartment is irreversibly changed, leading to the accumulation of highly differentiated virus-specific CD8+ T cells in the peripheral blood. The bone marrow (BM) has been shown to play a major role in the long-term survival of antigen-experienced T cells. Effector CD8+ T cells are preferentially maintained by the cytokine IL-15, the expression of which increases in old age. However, the impact of CMV on the phenotype of effector CD8+ T cells and on the production of T cell survival molecules in the BM is not yet known. We now show, using BM samples obtained from persons who underwent hip replacement surgery because of osteoarthrosis, that senescent CD8+ TEMRA cells with a bright expression of CD45RA and a high responsiveness to IL-15 accumulate in the BM of CMV-infected persons. A negative correlation was found between CMV antibody (Ab) titers in the serum and the expression of CD28 and IL-7Rα in CD8+ [Formula: see text] cells. Increased IL-15 mRNA levels were observed in the BM of CMV+ compared to CMV- persons, being particularly high in old seropositive individuals. In summary, our results indicate that a BM environment rich in IL-15 may play an important role in the maintenance of highly differentiated CD8+ T cells generated after CMV infection.

The bone marrow (BM) plays a key role in the long-term maintenance of immunological memory. However, the impact of aging on the production of survival factors for effector/memory T cells and plasma cells in the human BM has not been studied. We now show that the expression of molecules involved in the maintenance of immunological memory in the human BM changes with age. While IL-15, which protects potentially harmful CD8+ CD28- senescent T cells, increases, IL-7 decreases. IL-6, which may synergize with IL-15, is also overexpressed. In contrast, a proliferation-inducing ligand, a plasma cell survival factor, is reduced. IFN-y, TNF, and ROS accumulate in the BM in old age. IL-15 and IL-6 expression are stimulated by IFN-y and correlate with ROS levels in BM mononuclear cells. Both cytokines are reduced by incubation with the ROS scavengers N-acetylcysteine and vitamin C. IL-15 and IL-6 are also overexpressed in the BM of superoxide dismutase 1 knockout mice compared to their WT counterparts. In summary, our results demonstrate the role of inflammation and oxidative stress in age-related changes of immune cell survival factors in the BM, suggesting that antioxidants may be beneficial in counteracting immunosenescence by improving immunological memory in old age.

Surgical treatment of periprosthetic femoral fractures has a high complication and mortality rate of more than 10%. The aim of this study is to report the outcome of a consecutive single center patient group. Thirty-four consecutive patients (mean age 81.2+/-8.5 years, 14 male, 20 female) with a periprosthetic femoral fracture Vancouver type A (n=5) or type B (n=29) were followed-up after 43.2 months, none of the patients were lost to follow-up. Nineteen of the patients were treated through change of the stem and cerclage fixation, five by plates and ten by cerclage cables. One successfully treated infection was observed. No further complications have been reported peri- or postoperatively, therefore resulting in 2.9% overall complication rate. These results demonstrate that precisely selected revision surgery protocol following periprosthetic femoral fractures within elderly multimorbid patients may lead to beneficial outcomes at a low risk of complications.

Heat shock proteins (HSPs) are involved in tumour immunity, and are correlated with survival and drug resistance in numerous types of cancer. The present study investigated the expression of HSPs and multiple drug resistance (MDR) in human chondrosarcoma. HSP and P-glycoprotein (the MDR1 gene product) expression was evaluated by immunohistochemical analysis of paraffin-embedded sections obtained from 37 patients with chondrosarcoma (19 male and 18 female; aged 33-85 years; mean age, 48.5 years). HSP73 and 90 were significantly overexpressed in patients with local recurrence: HSP73 was expressed in 7/7 patients (100%) with local recurrence and 9/18 patients (50%) without recurrence (P<0.02), while HSP90 was expressed in all patients with recurrence but only 8/18 (44%) without recurrence (P<0.02). A marked association was also identified between HSP expression and survival. HSP72 and 73 were significantly overexpressed in tumours from patients who succumbed to the disease (all positive for HSP72 and 73; P<0.05). No differences were observed between HSP27, 73 or 90-positive or -negative tumours according to age or gender. In addition, HSP72 expression was correlated with differentiation of the tumours (P<0.02). These results indicate that HSP72, 73 and 90 may function as novel prognostic markers for chondrosarcoma, and initiate further studies regarding the use of such markers for the identification of patients with poor prognosis.

BACKGROUND: Oblique osteotomies of the first metatarsal are common surgical treatments for moderate to severe hallux valgus deformity. Osteotomy fixation integrity is important to minimize interfragment motion and maintain correction during healing, and our clinical observations suggest that patient age and bone quality affect fixation stability and ultimately the clinical outcome. Accordingly, this study correlated these patient factors with key mechanical measures of osteotomy angulation resistance in a cadaver hallux valgus correction model. METHODS: Standard Ludloff osteotomies were created in 31 fresh-frozen first metatarsals and fixed with two cannulated, dual-pitch headless screws. Each specimen underwent 1000 plantar-to-dorsal bending loads while monitoring bending stiffness and distal fragment dorsal angulation. Donor age and bone mineral density were then correlated with each mechanical measure at selected cycling increments. FINDINGS: We found significant positive correlation between bone mineral density and osteotomy fixation stiffness for all evaluated load cycles. Moderate negative correlation between bone density and angulation was identified, significant for load cycle 500. There was a weak, nonsignificant negative correlation between donor age and osteotomy bending stiffness, with r ranging from -0.134 to -0.243 between the first and 1000th loads. Little correlation was demonstrable between age and angulation. INTERPRETATION: Because low bone density correlates with decreased osteotomy site stiffness and increased angulation under load, patient compliance and protected weight bearing in the early postoperative phase are particularly important if bone mineral density is exceptionally low. Correspondingly, patients with especially high bone mineral density may be considered candidates for earlier weight bearing and active physical therapy.

Receptor activator of nuclear factor κB (RANK), a member of the tumour necrosis factor family, is activated by its ligand and regulates the differentiation of osteoclasts and dendritic cells. Local growth of osteosarcoma involves destruction of the host bone by osteoclasts and proteolytic mechanisms. Although the prognosis of patients with osteosarcoma has been improved by advances in chemotherapy over the last four decades, the issues of non-responders, and the lack of effective prognostic markers have remained. The present study aimed to investigate the prognostic and predictive value of RANK expression in human osteosarcoma. The expression of RANK was immunohistochemically evaluated in biopsies of 43 patients (mean age 25.4 years) with high-grade osteosarcoma, and was found to be correlated with histological response to chemotherapy, disease-free status and overall survival. RANK expression was detected in eight of the 43 osteosarcoma specimens (18%), whereas the remaining specimens were negative for RANK. A statistically significant correlation was detected between RANK expression and the overall survival of patients. A total of 7/8 patients with RANK-expressing tumours succumbed to the disease (88% mortality rate amongst patients with RANK-positive tumours vs. 37% with RANK-negative tumours; P<0.05). No significant difference was found when comparing RANK expression status with response to chemotherapy; 50% of RANK-positive patients exhibited a poor response to chemotherapy, compared with 66% in the RANK negative group. In addition, the appearance of metastases was not correlated with RANK expression status (38% metastases in RANK-positive tumours vs. 34% in RANK-negative tumours). In conclusion, the results of the present study suggested that RANK expression is likely to be of prognostic, but not of predictive, value.

INTRODUCTION: Flexor digitorum longus transfer and medial displacement calcaneal osteotomy have shown favourable results in the treatment of adult acquired flat foot deformity stage 2. Little is known about the resorbable interference screw for tendon fixation and postoperative patient satisfaction though. Moreover possible changes of radiographic parameters at final follow-up, possible implant-associated complications and differences concerning clinical results at final follow-up to other studies using bone tunnel techniques for fixation of the FDL tendon were investigated. MATERIALS AND METHODS: 21 feet in 21 patients with a mean age of 51 years were evaluated pre- and postoperatively after a standardised operative procedure using MDCO and FDL transfer with interference screw fixation. Patients were evaluated with the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society Hindfoot Score and the Visual Analogue Scale at an average follow-up of 20 months. Hindfoot radiographic parameters were evaluated according to AOFAS guidelines. For statistical analysis SPSS v.15.0.1 was used. RESULTS: The average AOFAS Score (from 42 to 95 points) and VAS (from 0.5 to 8 points) both increased significantly (p < 0.001 each) from preoperative to final follow-up as well as the hindfoot valgus (from 10 to 4 degrees (p = 0.005)) and the lateral talo-first metatarsal angle (from 13.6 preoperative to 5.2° at follow-up). 88 percent of patients evaluated the postoperative result with "very good" or "good". Implant-associated complications could not be detected. CONCLUSION: We conclude that interference screw fixation for FDL transfer is a safe and promising operative technique, allowing a smaller skin incision without disrupting the normal interconnections at the knot of Henry, while achieving very high patient satisfaction and improving postoperative function as well as relieving pain. This method is technically easy to perform, has a low complication risk and we, therefore, recommend this fixation technique in patients with adult acquired flatfoot deformity stage 2.

RESUMO

Although the giant cell tumor of bone is generally classified as a benign tumor it can rarely metastasize and has a potential risk of local recurrence. We want to report about a female patient who suffered from a recurrence of a giant cell tumor of bone after the implantation of a total endoprosthesis of the knee joint. We have treated her with denosumab, which is a receptor activator of nuclear factor kappa-B ligand inhibitor. In this case report we want to present a new option to treat this kind of neoplasm.

RESUMO

We report a case of a 65-year-old man with a painful nonunion of the first metatarsophalangeal joint (MTPJ). It is one of the main severe complications of this surgery. Its prevalence is described between 5% and 10% across different operative techniques. The implantation of hemicup-prosthesis has been successfully used for the hallux rigidus treatment with very promising results. In our case report, we introduce a treatment method of converting a pseudoarthrosis of the first MTPJ, made of two crossing screws into a hemicup-prosthesis as a salvage procedure. This is to our best knowledge the first report using this device for treatment of pseudoarthrosis of the first MTPJ.
