RESUMO

AIMS: This study aimed to investigate the anti-inflammatory and odontoblastic effects of cerium-containing mesoporous bioactive glass nanoparticles (Ce-MBGNs) on dental pulp cells as novel pulp-capping agents. METHODOLOGY: Ce-MBGNs were synthesized using a post-impregnation strategy based on the antioxidant properties of Ce ions and proposed the first use of Ce-MBGNs for pulp-capping application. The biocompatibility of Ce-MBGNs was analysed using the CCK-8 assay and apoptosis detection. Additionally, the reactive oxygen species (ROS) scavenging ability of Ce-MBGNs was measured using the 2,7-Dichlorofuorescin Diacetate (DCFH-DA) probe. The anti-inflammatory effect of Ce-MBGNs on THP-1 cells was further investigated using flow cytometry and quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR). Moreover, the effect of Ce-MBGNs on the odontoblastic differentiation of the dental pulp cells (DPCs) was assessed by combined scratch assays, RT-qPCR, western blotting, immunocytochemistry, Alizarin Red S staining and tissue-nonspecific alkaline phosphatase staining. Analytically, the secretions of tumour necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and interleukin-1ß (IL-1ß) were detected with enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). RESULTS: Ce-MBGNs were confirmed to effectively scavenge ROS in THP-1-derived macrophages and DPCs. Flow cytometry and RT-qPCR assays revealed that Ce-MBGNs significantly inhibited the M1 polarization of macrophages (Mφ). Furthermore, the protein levels of TNF-α and IL-1ß were downregulated in THP-1-derived macrophages after stimulation with Ce-MBGNs. With a step-forward virtue of promoting the odontoblastic differentiation of DPCs, we further confirmed that Ce-MBGNs could regulate the formation of a conductive immune microenvironment with respect to tissue repair in DPCs, which was mediated by macrophages. CONCLUSIONS: Ce-MBGNs protected cells from self-produced oxidative damage and exhibited excellent immunomodulatory and odontoblastic differentiation effects on DPCs. As a pulp-capping agent, this novel biomaterial can exert anti-inflammatory effects and promote restorative dentine regeneration in clinical treatment. We believe that this study will stimulate further correlative research on the development of advanced pulp-capping agents.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) is a disease that occurs frequently in young and middle-aged people. Because of its high disability rate, it affects the ability to work, so the early treatment of this disease is particularly important. This retrospective study aimed to evaluate the clinical efficacy of hip arthroscopy combined with multiple small-diameter fan-shaped low-speed drilling decompression (MSFLD) in treating early-mid stage ONFH (ARCO II-IIIA) compared to MSFLD, with at least 10-year follow-up. METHODS: A total of 234 patients who underwent hip arthroscopy and MSFLD for ONFH from 1998 to 2012 were analyzed retrospectively. This study enrolled patients between 18 and 60 years old with ARCO stage II-III A, diagnosed clinically and through imaging, in accordance with the 2021 guidelines for the treatment of ONFH. Clinical data, including demographics, operation mode, BMI, pre- and postoperative Harris score, and femoral head survival rate, were collected. Patients were divided into hip arthroscopy + MSFLD and MSFLD groups based on the operation mode. The t-test was used to compare the postoperative efficacy, Harris scores, and survival rates of the femoral head between the two groups. RESULTS: Among the 234 patients, 160 cases were followed up, including 92 cases in the hip arthroscopy + MSFLD group and 68 cases in MSFLD group, the follow-up rate was 68.38%, and the follow-up time was (10-22)14.11 ± 3.06 years. The Harris score (80.65 ± 6.29) in the hip arthroscopy + MSFLD group was significantly higher than that in the MSFLD group (p = 0.00), and the survival rate of femoral head (5-year survival rate was 84.78%, 10-year survival rate was 23.91%) was also higher than that in the MSFLD group (5-year survival rate was 63.24%, 10-year survival rate was 8.82%). The 5-year and 10-year survival rates of patients with ARCO II were 82.11% and 28.42%, which were better than 54% and 33% for ARCO III A. The femur head survival rate of alcoholic ONFH (5-year survival rate 61.54%, 10-year survival rate 9.23%) was significantly higher than that of other types of ONFH. CONCLUSION: Clinical follow-up of at least 10 years suggests that hip arthroscopy combined with MSFLD is an effective treatment for early-mid stage ONFH, with good clinical effect and high survival rate of femoral head.

RESUMO

Atypical meningioma is a specific type of meningioma that is relatively rare in clinical practice. The clinical manifestations of atypical meningioma are non-specific and the imaging findings are similar to those for other intraspinal space-occupying lesions. It is usually misdiagnosed as schwannoma or metastases, and it is necessary to rely on intraoperative findings and pathological examination to confirm the diagnosis. Atypical meningioma invading the intervertebral foramen and causing bone destruction is rare. The present study describes the case of a patient with cervical intraspinal atypical meningioma combined with cervical bone destruction. A 50-year-old female patient presented with numbness of the extremities with unstable walking, and underwent magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the cervical spine. MRI showed a space-occupying lesion in the spinal canal at the C2-4 level. The patient underwent cervical intraspinal lesion resection, and postoperative pathology confirmed atypical meningioma (World Health Organization grade II). The patient received dehydration and hormone therapy, and was discharged after the symptoms improved. Radiotherapy was performed 2 months after discharge. Cervical MRI 3 months after the operation showed that the tumor resection was satisfactory. To the best of our knowledge, the present study is the first to report on this specific type of meningioma. The present case report may provide useful information for clinicians to diagnose and treat the disease.

RESUMO

The ability of microplastics (MPs) to adsorb environmental pollutants has been extensively studied. However, little is known about the ability of MPs to release inherent additives and the interaction between them. This paper explored the effects of environmental factors on the release of phthalic acid esters (PAEs) from three different types of microplastics (polyethylene microplastics (PE-MPs), polypropylene microplastics (PP-MPs), and polystyrene microplastics (PS-MPs)) by simulating water environments, as well as the differences in the adsorption of one or more PAEs by MPs. The results showed that the types of MPs, single environmental factors, and combined environmental factors had a great influence on the release of di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP). In the influence of a single environmental factor, the releasing amount of DEHP increased significantly. When the pH value increased from 5 to 9, the release of three PAEs from all MPs decreased. Moreover, under the combined influence of three environmental factors, the DEHP release from PP-MPs was most affected by environmental factors, and the order of influence of the three environmental factors was ionic strength > organic matter > pH. The DEHP release of PS-MPs was the highest (0.058 ± 0.023 µg/L), followed by PP-MPs (0.038 ± 0.010 µg/L) and PE-MPs (0.035 ± 0.008 µg/L). Adsorption kinetics and isotherm fitting showed that the adsorption process of the three MPs was suitable for the pseudo-second-order kinetic model, and the Freundlich adsorption isotherm had a higher fitting degree. Compared with single adsorption, the competitive adsorption of three PAEs increased the adsorption capacity of DEHP and decreased the adsorption capacity of dibutyl phthalate (DBP) and diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP). These findings help predict the potential of MPs to release toxic additives under different environmental conditions.

RESUMO

Tumefactive demyelinating lesions (TDLs) are rare and specific types of inflammatory demyelinating lesions. Its clinical manifestations are nonspecific, and the imaging findings are similar to those of other intracranial space-occupying lesions, which are usually misdiagnosed as tumors or abscesses and require a pathologic examination to confirm the diagnosis. Tumefactive demyelinating lesions after kidney transplantation are even rarer. This article reports a case of TDLs after kidney transplantation. A 60-year-old female patient underwent kidney transplantation 15 years ago and took anti-rejection drugs such as tacrolimus, tacrolimus, and corticosteroids after surgery. The patient was admitted with headache and left limb weakness, and magnetic resonance imaging of the head showed multiple space-occupying lesions with surrounding edema. The patient underwent a stereotactic biopsy of the encephalopathy lesion, and postoperative pathology confirmed TDLs. She was treated with corticosteroids and discharged after the improvement of her symptoms. Here, to our knowledge, we report the first case of TDLs after kidney transplantation. We report this case to provide clinicians with useful information on intracranial demyelinating disease after kidney transplantation.

RESUMO

Surgical Site Infection (SSI) is one of the common postoperative complications after gastric cancer surgery. Previous studies have explored the risk factors (such as age, diabetes, anaemia and ASA score) for SSI in patients with gastric cancer. However, there are large differences in the research results, and the correlation coefficients of different research results are quite different. We aim to investigate the risk factors of surgical site infection in patients with gastric cancer. We queried four English databases (PubMed, Embase, Web of Science and the Cochrane Library) and four Chinese databases (China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Chinese Biological Medicine Database, Wanfang Database and Chinese Scientific Journal Database (VIP Database)) to identify published literature related to risk factors for surgical site infection in patients with gastric cancer. Rev Man 5.4 and Stata 15.0 were used in this meta-analysis. A total of 15 articles (n = 6206) were included in this analysis. The following risk factors were found to be significantly associated with surgical site infection in gastric cancer: male (OR = 1.28, 95% CI [1.06, 1.55]), age >60 (OR = 2.75, 95% CI [1.65, 4.57]), smoking (OR = 1.99, 95% CI [1.46, 2.73]), diabetes (OR = 2.03, 95% CI [1.59, 2.61]), anaemia (OR = 4.72, 95% CI [1.66, 13.40]), preoperative obstruction (OR = 3.07, 95% CI [1.80, 5.23]), TNM ≥ III (OR = 2.05, 95% CI [1.56, 2.70]), hypoproteinemia (OR = 3.05, 95% CI [2.08, 4.49]), operation time ≥3 h (OR = 8.33, 95% CI [3.81, 18.20]), laparotomy (OR = 2.18, 95% CI [1.61, 2.94]) and blood transfusion (OR = 1.44, 95% CI [1.01, 2.06]). This meta-analysis showed that male, age >60, smoking, diabetes, anaemia, preoperative obstruction, TNM ≥ III, hypoproteinemia, operation time ≥3 h, open surgery and blood transfusion were the risk factors for SSI in patients with gastric cancer.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Many studies have focused on the femoral tunnel technique and fixation method, but few studies have involved the tibial tunnel technique and fixation method. The all-inside technique is one of the new techniques that has been described in recent years. All-inside anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction is based on a tibial socket instead of a full tunnel. This method has many potential advantages. AIM: To compare clinical outcomes of knee ACL autograft reconstruction using all-inside quadrupled semitendinosus (AIST) and traditional hamstring tendon (TBT) techniques. METHODS: From January 2017 to October 2019, the clinical data of 80 patients with ACL reconstruction were retrospectively analyzed, including 67 males and 13 females. The patients had an average age of 24.3 ± 3.1 years (age range: 18-33 years). The AIST technique was used in 42 patients and the TBT technique was used in 38 patients. The time between operation and injury, operative duration, postoperative visual analogue scale (VAS) score and knee functional recovery were recorded and compared between the two groups. The International Knee Documentation Committee (IKDC) and Lysholm scoring system were used to comprehensively evaluate clinical efficacy. RESULTS: Eighty patients were followed for 24-36 mo, with an average follow-up duration of 27.5 ± 1.8 mo. There were no significant differences in the time between surgery and injury, operative duration, IKDC and Lysholm scores of the affected knee at the last follow-up evaluation between the two groups. There were significant differences in VAS scores 1 d, 3 d, 7 d, 2 wk and 1 mo after surgery (P < 0.05). There was no significant difference in VAS score at 3 mo, 6 mo and 1 year after operation. CONCLUSION: The efficacy of the AIST ACL reconstruction technique was comparable to the TBT technique, but the postoperative pain was less with the AIST technique. Thus, the AIST technique is an ideal treatment choice for ACL reconstruction.

RESUMO

Fabricating more sensitive, stable and low-cost nanomaterials for the detection of glucose is important for the disease diagnosis and monitoring. Herein, we established a nanocomposite (polypyrrole bridging GO@Au@MnO2) as a novel surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) nanoprobe for the quantitative detection of glucose in trace serum. Each component in the nanocomposites played an irreplaceable role in SERS detection of glucose. Polypyrrole (PPy) could act as Raman signal and extra SERS signal molecules didn't need to be introduced; Graphene oxide (GO) and gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) could enhance Raman signal of PPy; Au NPs also acted as glucose oxidase, which can oxidize glucose to produce gluconic acid and hydrogen peroxide(H2O2); Manganese oxide (MnO2) further enhanced Raman signal of PPy and responded to hydrogen peroxide, which will induce the decrease of Raman intensity of PPy. Thus, glucose can be quantified according to Raman signal output of PPy, which displayed a liner range from 1 to 10 µM, with detectable limit of 0.114 µM. Because of the merits in sensitivity, convenience and versatility, the novel method shows large potential space for disease-related substance detection in the future.

RESUMO

As substitutes for bisphenol A (BPA), bisphenol analogs (BPs) have been found to cause endocrine disorders and induce toxic effects. The objective of this study was to evaluate the bioaccumulation and subacute toxicity of bisphenol Z (BPZ), bisphenol C (BPC), bisphenol F (BPF), and bisphenol S (BPS) to zebrafish. Five-month-old zebrafish were exposed to 1/100 LC50, 1/50 LC50, and 1/10 LC50 of BPZ, BPC, BPF, and BPS for 13 days, respectively. Bioaccumulation, oxidative stress, and related mRNA expression in zebrafish tissues were measured on days 1, 7, and 13. After exposure, the four kinds of BPs all resulted in the accumulation of concentration and lipid peroxidation in zebrafish tissues to varying degrees. BPZ and BPC had the highest bioaccumulation level and had the greatest influence on malonic dialdehyde (MDA). In addition, the enzyme activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POD), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-PX), and the content of glutathione (GSH) in zebrafish tissues were also affected at different levels. However, the enzyme activities of SOD and POD were inactivated in zebrafish exposed to a high concentration of BPC. Further studies showed that BPs exposure down-regulated the transcription level of sod but up-regulated the relative expression levels of cat and gpx. The mRNA relative expression level of erα was not significantly changed, while the mRNA relative expression level of erß1 was significantly down-regulated except under BPS exposure. These results indicate that BPZ, BPC, and BPF significantly affect the expression level of the estrogen receptor (ER) in zebrafish tissues. Overall, the results suggest that exposure to waterborne BPs can cause severe oxidative stress and tissue damage in adult zebrafish that is not sufficient to kill them after 13 days of waterborne exposure. The toxicity of BPs to organisms, therefore, should be further analyzed and evaluated.

RESUMO

To further understand the toxic effects of bisphenol Z (BPZ) and bisphenol C (BPC) on aquatic organisms, zebrafish (Danio rerio) were exposed to 0.02 mg/L BPZ and BPC mixed solution in the laboratory for 28 days. The impacts of BPZ and BPC on the activity of the antioxidant enzymes, expression of antioxidant genes, and estrogen receptor genes in zebrafish under different pH conditions were studied. The changes of glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), reduced glutathione (GSH), total superoxide dismutase (T-SOD), catalase (POD), and malondialdehyde (MDA) in the zebrafish were detected by spectrophotometry. The mRNA relative expression levels of CAT, GSH, SOD, ERa, and ERb1 in the experimental group were determined by fluorescence quantitative PCR. The results showed that SOD activity and MDA content were inhibited under different pH conditions, and the activities of GSH, GSH-Px, and POD were induced. The activities of POD and GSH induced in the neutral environment were stronger than those in an acidic and alkaline environment. The mRNA relative expression levels of SOD and GSH were consistent with the activities of SOD and GSH. The mRNA relative expression levels of CAT were induced more strongly in the neutral environment than in acidic and alkaline conditions, the mRNA relative expression levels of ERa were induced most weakly in a neutral environment, and the mRNA relative expression levels of ERb1 were inhibited the most in a neutral environment.

RESUMO

Cervical cancer (CC) is a severe malignant tumor. Recently, more and more evidence has shown that abnormal expression of fatty acid synthase (FASN) occurs in varying tumors. Therefore, this investigation devoted to FASN in CC along with its upstream regulatory miRNA. Their expression levels were tested by qRT-PCR. Cell function experiments were undertaken to test tumor-related cell behaviors. Identification of their interplay was conducted by western blot and dual-luciferase methods. As analyzed, miR-497-5p was at low level in human CC cell lines, while FASN was overexpressed and demonstrated as a target of miR-497-5p. Cell function experiments demonstrated the targeting of miR-497-5p to FASN 3'-UTR, thus restraining CC development. To sum up, this investigation primarily revealed miR-497-5p/FASN axis in CC, by which potential CC biomarkers, could be developed. However, the mechanism of the axis was not determined in vivo, as one of the study limitations.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effectiveness of arthroscopic Pushlock anchor fixation with iliac creast bone autograft in the treatment of recurrent anterior shoulder instability with critical bone defect. METHODS: The clinical data of 80 patients with recurrent anterior shoulder instability with critical bone defect treated by arthroscopic Pushlock anchor fixation with iliac creast bone autograft between January 2016 and January 2019 were retrospectively analyzed. The patients were all male; they were 18-45 years old at the surgery, with an average of 25 years old. The disease duration ranged from 3 months to 5 years, with an average of 2 years. The shoulder joint dislocated 3-50 times, with an average of 8 times. X-ray films, MRI, CT scans and three-dimensional reconstruction of the shoulder were performed before operation. The area of the anterior glenoid defect was 25%-45%, with an average of 27.3%. The shoulder mobility (forward flexion and external rotation in abduction at 90°), the Constant-Murley score, and the Rowe score were used to evaluate the shoulder function before operation and at last follow-up. RESULTS: Patients were followed up 1-3 years, with an average of 2 years. No shoulder dislocation occurred again during follow-up. All partial graft absorption occurred after operation, CT scan showed that the graft absorption ratio was less than 30% at 1 week and 3 months after operation. CT three-dimensional reconstruction at 1 year after operation showed that all grafts had healed to the glenoid. The anterior glenoid bone defect was less than 5% (from 0 to 5%, with an average of 3.2%). At last follow-up, the shoulder mobility (forward flexion and external rotation in abduction at 90°), the Constant-Murley score, and the Rowe score significantly improved when compared with preoperative ones ( P<0.05). The shoulder mobility of external rotation in abduction at 90° of the affected side limited when compared with the healthy side [(6.7±5.1)°]. CONCLUSION: Arthroscopic Pushlock anchor fixation with iliac creast bone autograft has a good effectiveness in the treatment of recurrent anterior shoulder instability with critical bone defect. The method is relatively simple and the learning curve is short.

RESUMO

With regard to the treatment of multicomponent wastewaters, to construct multifunctional super-wetting membranes is highly attractive in current decade. In this work, a low-cost and novel NiFe2O4/TA/PVDF composite membrane was fabricated via a facile in-situ deposition method under vacuum system. In which, photo-response NiFe2O4 nanoparticles were immobilized on the surface of flexible PVDF base membrane via hydrophilic tannic acid (TA) as the binder. The resulting composite membrane exhibited a special superwettability of superamphilicity in air and underwater superoleophobicity with a nanoscale rough surface structure. One the one hand, NiFe2O4/TA/PVDF membrane can be used a reusable catalyst in Photo-Fenton degradation of organic dyes with high efficiency. On the other hand, the composite membrane can effectively separate emulsified oils from representative oil-in-water emulsions with excellent separation efficiency all above 99 % and relatively high flux (880-1525 Lm-2h-1 bar-1). More importantly, NiFe2O4/TA/PVDF composite membrane showed satisfactory processing efficiency, anti-fouling property and excellent reusability in deal with the mixed organic pollutants (water-insoluble emulsified oils and water-soluble organic dyes) existed in one aqueous system, which followed the procedure of initially photo-Fenton degradation of organic dyes emulsion and successively separation the remaining emulsion over the recovered membrane. This successful development of high-performance NiFe2O4/TA/PVDF composite membrane will provide a new candidate for both oil/water separation and organic wastewater treatment, as well as promote the utilization of spinel ferrites in the construction of multifunctional membrane for environmental purification.

RESUMO

Bisphenol Z (BPZ), bisphenol S (BPS), bisphenol C (BPC), and bisphenol F (BPF) had been widely used as alternatives to bisphenol A (BPA), but the toxicity data of these bisphenol analogues were very limited. In this study, the joint toxicity of BPZ, BPS, BPC, and BPF to zebrafish (Danio rerio) was investigated. The median half lethal concentrations (LC50) of BPZ, BPS, BPC, and BPF to zebrafish for 96 h were 6.9 × 105 µM, 3.9 × 107 µM, 7.1 × 105 µM, and1.6 × 106 µM, respectively. The joint toxicity effect of BPF-BPC (7.7 × 105-3.4 × 105µM) and BPZ-BPC (3.4 × 105-3.5 × 105µM) with the same toxic ratio showed a synergistic effect, which may be attributed to enzyme inhibition or induction theory. While the toxicity effect of the other two bisphenol analogue combined groups and multi-joint pairs showed an antagonistic effect due to the competition site, other causes need to be further explored. Meanwhile, the expression levels of the estrogen receptor genes (ERα, ERß1) and antioxidant enzyme genes (SOD, CAT, GPX) were analyzed using a quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction in zebrafish exposure to LC50 of BPZ, BPS, BPC, and BPF collected at 24, 48, 72, and 96 h. Relative expression of CAT, GPX, and ERß1 mRNA declined significantly compared to the blank control, which might be a major cause of oxidant injury of antioxidant systems and the disruption of the endocrine systems in zebrafish.

RESUMO

A new NiAlFe layered double hydroxide/polydopamine/polyvinylidene fluoride (NiAlFe LDH/PDA/PVDF) membrane was fabricated by in-situ growth of LDH on the PDA modified PVDF membrane. The as-prepared membrane possesses a nano/microscale rough structural surface and displays the superior wettability of superhydrophilicity in air and underwater superoleophobicity. Combining the favourable features of superwettability and hierarchical rough structure, the NiAlFe LDH/PDA/PVDF membrane could effectively separate a series of oil-in-water emulsions with high efficiency (>99%) and high permeation flux (925-1913 L m-2 h-1 bar-1). Besides, owing to the light harvest ability of NiAlFe LDH, the relevant membrane also can be applied as a photocatalysis paper for the light-driven treatment of antibiotic residue in aqueous solution. In which, NiAlFe LDH/PDA/PVDF membrane can effectively degrade typical antibiotic tetracycline within 20 min under UV light irradiation, exhibiting excellent photocatalytic activity. In addition, cyclic experiments demonstrate that NiAlFe LDH/PDA/PVDF membrane has excellent stability and reusability both in oil-in-water emulsion separation and photocatalytic reaction. In general, the findings of this research demonstrate that photo-response LDH modified membranes have potential multiple applications in wastewater treatment.

RESUMO

It remains challenging for graphene oxide (GO) membranes to achieve highly efficient performance and sufficient stability for aqueous molecule/ion precise separations. Herein, a molecular-level rational structure design protocol was proposed to develop ceramic-based graphene oxide framework (GOF) membranes with significantly enhanced sieving performance and stability for efficient removal of salts and micropollutants. Via a molecular cross-linking strategy, interlayered nanochannels between GO nanosheets can be rationally designed, featuring precisely tailorable channel size, promising surface chemistries and remarkably robust stability suitable for aqueous separation. Due to a significantly decreased nanochannel size, cross-linking of TU (thiourea) molecule significantly improved monovalent salt rejection (95.6% for NaCl), outperforming existing state-of-the-art GO-based, commercial organic nanofiltration and emerging two-dimensional MoS2 membranes, while moderately decreasing water permeability. In comparison, the GOF membranes cross-linked with MPD (m-phenylenediamine) exhibited a simultaneous increase in permeability and rejection for both salts and micropollutants (21.0% and 53.3% enhancement for chloramphenicol (CAP) solution), breaking their conventional trade-off issue. Cross-linking mechanism indicates that more robust nanochannels were formed by stronger covalent bonds via dehydration condensation between amine (TU/MPD) and carboxyl groups (GO), and nucleophilic addition between amine (TU/MPD) and epoxy groups (GO). Molecule/ion separation mechanism involved size sieving (steric hindrance), electrostatic interaction, Donnan effect, and partial dehydration effect. This work provides a novel protocol for rationally designing size and surface chemistry of highly robust GO nanochannels at a subnanometer level to construct water-stable functional GOF membranes with enhanced sieving performance for water treatment applications.

RESUMO

Direct femtosecond shadowgraphy and supercontinuum (SC)-illumination imaging methods for diagnosing liquid-gas mixed sprays in the near-field region of spray nozzles were compared. Some big spray structures can be captured using femtosecond shadowgraphy which can freeze the motion of the sprays. But the speckles caused by the interference of multi-scattered photons erode the edges of ligaments and conceal many fine droplets. SC-illumination imaging can not only freeze the motion of the sprays but also significantly suppressing the speckles, presenting a more realistic spray pattern. Based on the SC imaging technology, the effects of various factors such as flow ratio of gas to liquid (GLR), total flow and nozzle size on the spray were studied.

RESUMO

To explore the flavonoids from Morus alba L. leaves (MLF), the process of extracting was optimized by a response surface methodology and the antimicrobial and antioxidant activities were evaluated in vitro. The yield of flavonoids reached 50.52 mg g-1 under the optimized extraction conditions (i.e., extraction temperature, 70.85 °C; solvent concentration, 39.30%; extraction time, 120.18 min; and liquid/solid ratio, 34.60:1). The total flavonoids were extracted in organic solvents with various polarities, including petroleum ether (MLFp), ethyl acetate (MLFe), and n-butanol (MLFb). In vitro, the four MLF samples exhibited good antioxidant activities for scavenging of 2, 2'-azinobis-(3-ethylbenz-thiazoline-6-sulphonate) radical, 1, 1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl radical, and total reducing power. Regarding antimicrobial efficacy, the MLF samples suppressed the development of Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, and Bacillus pumilus. The MLF samples inhibited α-amylase activity to a certain extent. The analytical hierarchy process (AHP) was used to evaluate comprehensively the bioactivities of the MLF samples. The AHP results revealed that the bioactivity comprehensive score (78.83 µg mL-1) of MLFe was optimal among the four MLF samples. Morus alba L. leaves also exhibited non-hemolytic properties. All bioactivities suggested the potential of MLFe as a candidate resource in the food and drug industries.

RESUMO

The paper discuss the surgical techniques and clinical curative effects of CEA (Carotid Endarterectomy, CEA) under a microscope via anterior cervical triangle posterior vena jugularisinterna approach combining with suspended carotid artery on the treatment of high level and complex carotid artery stenosis. Retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinical data of 21 cases of patients. The far end of carotid artery stenosis section is located above the lower edge of the second cervical vertebra centrum. The carotid artery stenosis section of three cases is located at the middle lower edge of the first cervical vertebrae. Clinical evaluation was performed from surgical process, time of postoperative drainage tube removal, perioperative complications and follow-up survey on the serious numbness at the surgical site one month, three months and six months after the surgery. There are 0 cases of postoperative death, 0 cases of cerebral hemorrhage cerebral infarction, 1 case of myocardial infarction, 2 cases of Hypoglossal nerve temporary injury, 0 case of infection of incisional wound and incidence rates of serious numbness in postoperative follow-up surgical area one month, 3 months and 6 months are 23.81%, 19.05% and 9.52% respectively. The cranial nerves and surrounding muscle groups at the far end of carotid artery stenosis and carotid artery can be fully disposed via anterior cervical triangle posterior vena jugularisinterna by utilizing microsurgery-technique and suspended carotid artery technology conveniently and completely to avoid cutting the corresponding branches of vena jugularisinterna and too much anatomy of anterior triangle lymph fatty tissue to properly avoid postoperative edema at the surgical area, cranial nerve injuries and other complications. It is a convenient, efficient, safe and effective CEA approach. .

RESUMO

The acridine derivatives can interact with the double-stranded DNA, which is regarded as the biological target of the anticancer drugs in cancer treatment. We designed and synthesized a new series of 1,3-dimethyl-6-nitroacridine derivatives as potential DNA-targeted anticancer agents. These compounds could partially intercalate into the calf thymus DNA, differing from the parent acridine. The results showed that the substitutions of the acridine ring had great effect on DNA binding affinity. The binding constants determined by UV-vis spectroscopy were found to be 105 M-1 grade. Anticancer activity of these compounds was screened using MTT assay. Most compounds inhibited 50% cancer cell growth at concentration below 30 µM, the results were consistent with the DNA binding ability. Compounds 1 and 6 were found to have more effective cytotoxicity, especially in human breast cancer cell lines. To investigate the action mechanism, we studied cell apoptosis, morphological changes, and cell cycle distribution in MCF-7 and MDA-MB-231 cells. Compounds 1 and 6 caused MCF-7 and MDA-MB-231 cells death due to apoptosis, and induced cell apoptosis in a dose-dependent manner. They also had significant effect on cell cycle progression and arrested cell cycle at G2/M phase. The results demonstrated that compounds 1 and 6 are promising candidates for cancer treatment.
