RESUMO

Soot, primarily composed of elemental carbon (EC) and organic carbon (OC), is ubiquitous in PM2.5. In the atmosphere, the heterogeneous interaction between NO2 and soot is not only an important pathway driving soot aging but also of central importance to nitrous acid (HONO) formation. It is commonly believed that the surface redox reaction between reductive OC and NO2 dominates the night aging of soot and the conversion of NO2 to HONO. However, completely differing from the currently popular explanation, we find here that the redox reaction between EC and NO2 can also drive the conversion of NO2 to HONO during soot aging. By combining in situ experiments with density functional theory (DFT) calculations, we proposed that the surface carbon vacancy defects on graphite/graphene-like EC should be a type of potential primary adsorption and reactive sites inducing the heterogeneous reduction of NO2. We suggested a new mechanism that NO2 is reduced to form HONO on surface vacancy defects through the splitting of H2O molecules, and the carbon atoms adjacent to surface vacancy are simultaneously oxidized to form hydroxyl-functionalized EC. This novel finding provides insights into the chemical mechanism driving the NO2-to-HONO conversion and rapid soot aging, which expands our knowledge of the heterogeneous chemistry of soot in the atmosphere.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) is central to HCC metastasis, in which RNA-binding proteins (RBPs) play a key role. METHODS: To explore the role of RBPs in metastasis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), whole transcriptome sequencing was conducted to identify differential RBPs between HCC with metastasis and HCC without metastasis. The influence of RBPs on metastasis of HCC was verified by in vitro and in vivo experiments. The interaction of RBPs with non-coding RNAs was evaluated by RNA immunoprecipitation and pull-down assays. RNA sequencing, whole-genome sequencing, and alternative splicing analysis were further performed to clarify post-transcriptional regulation mechanisms. RESULTS: Whole transcriptome sequencing results showed that expression of thioredoxin (Trx) was significantly upregulated in HCC patients with metastasis. Trx was also found to be associated with poor prognosis in HCC patients. Overexpression of Trx could promote migration and invasion of HCC cells in vitro and increase the rate of lung metastasis of HCC cells in vivo. Moreover, binding assays showed that Trx could bind to LINC00152. As a result, LINC00152 was verified to determine the pro-metastasis function of Trx by knockdown assay. Furthermore, we revealed that Trx could regulate metastasis-associated alternative splicing program. Specifically, angiopoietin 1 (ANGPT1) was the splicing target; the splicing isoform switching of ANGPT1 could activate the PI3K-Akt pathway, upregulate EMT-associated proteins, and promote migration and invasion of HCC cells. CONCLUSIONS: We found that Trx could interact with LINC00152 and promote HCC metastasis via regulating alternative splicing, indicating that Trx may serve as a novel therapeutic target for HCC treatment.

RESUMO

Background and Aims: Acute liver failure (ALF) is a life-threatening clinical problem with limited treatment options. Administration of human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (hUC-MSCs) may be a promising approach for ALF. This study aimed to explore the role of hUC-MSCs in the treatment of ALF and the underlying mechanisms. Methods: A mouse model of ALF was induced by lipopolysaccharide and d-galactosamine administration. The therapeutic effects of hUC-MSCs were evaluated by assessing serum enzyme activity, histological appearance, and cell apoptosis in liver tissues. The apoptosis rate was analyzed in AML12 cells. The levels of inflammatory cytokines and the phenotype of RAW264.7 cells co-cultured with hUC-MSCs were detected. The C-Jun N-terminal kinase/nuclear factor-kappa B signaling pathway was studied. Results: The hUC-MSCs treatment decreased the levels of serum alanine aminotransferase and aspartate aminotransferase, reduced pathological damage, alleviated hepatocyte apoptosis, and reduced mortality in vivo. The hUC-MSCs co-culture reduced the apoptosis rate of AML12 cells in vitro. Moreover, lipopolysaccharide-stimulated RAW264.7 cells had higher levels of tumor necrosis factor-α, interleukin-6, and interleukin-1ß and showed more CD86-positive cells, whereas the hUC-MSCs co-culture reduced the levels of the three inflammatory cytokines and increased the ratio of CD206-positive cells. The hUC-MSCs treatment inhibited the activation of phosphorylated (p)-C-Jun N-terminal kinase and p-nuclear factor-kappa B not only in liver tissues but also in AML12 and RAW264.7 cells co-cultured with hUC-MSCs. Conclusions: hUC-MSCs could alleviate ALF by regulating hepatocyte apoptosis and macrophage polarization, thus hUC-MSC-based cell therapy may be an alternative option for patients with ALF.

RESUMO

Background: Postoperative hypothermia (POH) is a common issue in colorectal surgery patients, leading to complications. This study aimed to develop and validate a predictive model for identifying POH in colorectal surgery patients. Methods: A retrospective analysis of 1,316 patients who underwent colorectal surgery between June 2020 and September 2022 was conducted using institutional medical records. Intraoperative core temperatures and potential influencing factors were collected, and regression analysis was used to identify risk factors for POH and create a model. The model's performance was evaluated using the receiver operating characteristic curve analysis. Results: Intraoperative hypothermia occurred in 51.5 % of patients. Significant predictors of POH included gender, alcohol consumption, surgery duration, platelet count, and age. The constructed model included factors like fluid intake, platelets, cigarette use, alcohol consumption, surgery type, muscle relaxants, age, ABSI, and gender. The model showed good predictive performance with an area under the ROC curve of 0.981 and a Hosmer-Lemeshow test p-value of 0.676. The Youden index, sensitivity, specificity, and practical application rate were 0.602, 0.790, 0.812, and 98.81 %, respectively. Conclusion: This study developed a predictive model for POH in colorectal surgery patients, considering individual factors and exploring underlying causes. Understanding risk factors and consequences of POH is crucial for nurses and perioperative professionals in clinical practice.

RESUMO

Background: Prognostic assessment for colorectal cancer (CRC) displays substantial heterogeneity, as reliance solely on traditional TNM staging falls short of achieving precise individualized predictions. The integration of diverse biological information sources holds the potential to enhance prognostic accuracy. Objective: To establish a comprehensive multi-tiered precision prognostic evaluation system for CRC by amalgamating gene expression profiles, clinical characteristics, and tumor microsatellite instability (MSI) status in CRC patients. Methods: We integrated genomic data, clinical information, and survival follow-up data from 483 CRC patients obtained from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) databases. MSI-related gene modules were identified using differential expression analysis and Weighted Gene Co-expression Network Analysis (WGCNA). Three prognostic models were constructed: MSI-Related Gene Prognostic Model (Model I), Clinical Prognostic Model (Model II), and Integrated Multi-Layered Prognostic Model (Model III) by combining clinical features. Model performance was assessed and compared using Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curves, Kaplan-Meier analysis, and other methods. Results: Six MSI-related genes were selected for constructing Model I (AUC = 0.724); Model II used two clinical features (AUC = 0.684). Compared to individual models, the integrated Model III exhibited superior performance (AUC = 0.825) and demonstrated good stability in an independent dataset (AUC = 0.767). Conclusion: This study successfully developed and validated a comprehensive multi-tiered precision prognostic assessment model for CRC, providing an effective tool for personalized medical management of CRC.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Midgut volvulus in adults based on congenital malrotation, which required emergency surgery, may occur under the stimulation of adverse factors and is rare and easy to be misdiagnosed. PRESENTATION OF CASE: A young male was taken to the emergency room of a local hospital after six hours abdominal pain. Computed tomography (CT) shows intestinal volvulus and exploratory laparotomy was performed. Postoperative CT revealed remission of small intestinal torsion and congenital malrotation of the midgut. The patient vomited frequently within 48 h after the surgery, and was transferred to our hospital for conservative treatment. After 4 days of conservative treatment, the vomiting symptoms were relieved at first, but worsened again after a liquid diet. CT showed complete duodenal obstruction and exploratory laparotomy was performed again. Congenital malrotation was found, which resulted in midgut volvulus and duodenal obstruction due to anomalous fixation of the mesentery. The bowel was placed in normal anatomical position, and the mesentery was sutured to the posterior abdominal wall. The patient was followed up for 24 months with no complaints. DISCUSSION: Due to the rare incidence and atypical pain clinical manifestations, it is difficult for the congenital malrotation in adults to be diagnosed. Midgut volvulus in adults with malrotation is even rarer and requires emergency operation, and may be misdiagnosed. CONCLUSION: Midgut volvulus with midgut malrotation is very rare in adults. Exploratory laparotomy must be careful to reduce misdiagnosis and recurrence of volvulus.

RESUMO

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is an emerging treatment but often restricted by the availability of oxygen. Enhancing the lifespan of singlet oxygen (1O2) by fractionated generation is an effective approach to improve the efficacy of PDT. Herein, an imine-based nanoscale COF (TpDa-COF) has been synthesized and functionalized with a pyridone-derived structure (Py) to create a 1O2-storing nanoplatform TpDa-COF@Py, which can reversibly capture and release 1O2. Under 660 nm laser exposure, Py interacts with 1O2 produced by the porphyrin motif in COF backbones to generate 1O2-enriched COF (TpDa-COF@Py + hv), followed by the release of 1O2 through retro-Diels-Alder reactions at physiological temperatures. The continuous producing and releasing of 1O2 upon laser exposure leads to an "afterglow" effect and a prolonged 1O2 lifespan. In vitro cytotoxicity assays demonstrates that TpDa-COF@Py + hv exhibits an extremely low half-maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) of 0.54 µg/mL on 4T1 cells. Remarkably, the Py-mediated TpDa-COF@Py nanoplatform demonstrates enhanced cell-killing capability under laser exposure, attributed to the sustained 1O2 cycling, compared to TpDa-COF alone. Further in vivo assessment highlights the potential of TpDa-COF@Py + hv as a promising strategy to enhance phototheronostics and achieve effective tumor regression. Accordingly, the study supplies a generalized 1O2 "afterglow" nanoplatform to improve the effectiveness of PDT.

RESUMO

Xenocoumacin 1 (Xcn 1), antibiotic discovered from secondary metabolites of Xenorhabdus nematophila, had the potential to develop into a new pesticide due to its excellent activity against bacteria, oomycetes and fungi. However, the current low yield of Xcn1 limits its development and utilization. To improve the yield of Xcn1, response surface methodology was used to determine the optimal composition of fermentation medium and one factor at a time approach was utilized to optimize the fermentation process. The optimal medium composed of in g/L: proteose peptone 20.8; maltose 12.74; K2HPO4 3.77. The optimal fermentation conditions were that 25 °C, initial pH 7.0, inoculum size 10%, culture medium 75 mL in a 250 mL shake flask with an agitation rate of 150 rpm for 48 h. Xenorhabdus nematophila YL001 was produced the highest Xcn1 yield (173.99 mg/L) when arginine was added to the broth with 3 mmol/L at the 12th h. Compared with Tryptic Soy Broth medium, the optimized fermentation process resulted in a 243.38% increase in Xcn1 production. The obtained results confirmed that optimizing fermentation technology led to an increase in Xcn1 yield. This work would be helpful for efficient Xcn1 production and lay a foundation for its industrial production.

RESUMO

Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is a serious global health problem, and chronic HBV infection significantly increases the risk of liver fibrosis, cirrhosis, and even hepatocellular carcinoma in patients. Current first-line therapeutics such as nucleos(t)ide analogues and interferons are unable to completely clear cccDNA, so the vast majority of patients need to take long-term or even lifelong medication. However, long-term virological and biochemical responses can be achieved in some patients after drug withdrawal. Successfully screening these patients with drug withdrawal advantages is difficult. Hepatitis-B-core-related antigen (HBcrAg) is a new HBV serological marker that which can reflect the level and transcription activity of cccDNA in hepatocytes. Therefore, HBcrAg has potential value in guiding patients in drug withdrawal. This review summarizes previous reports on HBcrAg and evaluates the application value of HBcrAg in safe drug discontinuation.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Although carotid body tumors (CBTs) are rare, they attract particular attention because of their propensity for malignant transformation and the high surgical risk. Because data are scarce and as it is difficult to achieve a large sample size, no study has yet comprehensively analyzed the characteristics, management, or operative complications of CBTs. Therefore, we collected and analyzed all currently available information on CBTs and used the pooled data to derive quantitative information on disease characteristics and management. METHODS: We systematically searched PubMed, Embase, the Cochrane Library, and the Web of Science up to December 1, 2022, for studies that investigated the characteristics and management of CBTs. The primary objective was to identify the prevalence of the various characteristics and the incidence of complications. The secondary objective was to compare patients who underwent preoperative embolization (PE) and those who did not (non-PE), as well as to compare patients with different Shamblin grades and those with and without succinate dehydrogenase (SDH) mutations in terms of CBT characteristics and complications. Two reviewers selected studies for inclusion and independently extracted data. All statistical analyses were performed using the standard statistical procedures of Review Manager 5.2 and Stata 12.0. RESULTS: A total of 155 studies with 9291 patients and 9862 tumors were identified. The pooled results indicated that the median age of patients with CBT was 45.72 years, and 65% were female. The proportion of patients with bilateral lesions was 13%. In addition, 16% of patients had relevant family histories, and the proportion of those with SDH gene mutations was 36%. Sixteen percent of patients experienced multiple paragangliomas, and 12% of CBTs had catecholamine function. The incidence of cranial nerve injury (CNI) was 27%, and 14% of patients suffered from permanent CNI. The incidence rates of operative mortality and stroke were both 1%, and 4% of patients developed transient ischemic attacks. Of all CBTs, 6% were malignant or associated with metastases or recurrences. The most common metastatic locations were the lymph nodes (3%) and bone (3%), followed by the lungs (2%). Compared with non-PE, PE reduced the estimated blood loss (standardized mean difference, -0.95; 95% confidence interval [CI], -1.70 to -0.20) and the operation time (standardized mean difference, -0.56; 95% CI, -1.03 to -0.09), but it increased the incidence of stroke (odds ratio, 2.44; 95% CI, 1.04-5.73). Higher Shamblin grade tumors were associated with more operative complications. Patients who were SDH gene mutation-positive were more likely to have a relevant family history and had more symptoms. CONCLUSIONS: CBT was most common in middle-aged females, and early surgical resection was feasible; there was a low incidence of serious operative complications. Routine PE is not recommended because this may increase the incidence of stroke, although PE somewhat reduced the estimated blood loss and operation time. Higher Shamblin grade tumors increased the incidence of operative complications. Patients who were SDH gene mutation-positive had the most relevant family histories and symptoms.

RESUMO

This study aims to evaluate the effects of oxytetracycline (OTC) on detoxification and oxidative defense in the hepatopancreas and intestine of Chinese mitten crab (Eriocheir sinensis) under cadmium (Cd) stress. The crab was exposed to 0.6 µM Cd, 0.6 µM OTC, and 0.6 µM Cd plus 0.6 µM OTC for 42 days. Our results showed that in the intestine, OTC alone enhanced protein carboxylation (PC) and malondialdehyde (MDA) contents, which was associated with the increased OTC accumulation. Compared to Cd alone, Cd plus OTC increased Cd and OTC contents, and reduced detoxification (i.e., glutathione (GSH) content, gene expressions of cytochrome P450 (CYP) isoforms, 7-ethoxyresorufin O-deethylase (EROD) activity, mRNA levels and activities of glutathione peroxidase (GPx), glutathione reductase (GR) and glutathione-S-transferase (GST)), and antioxidant defense (i.e., gene expressions and activities of catalase (CAT) and superoxide dismutase (SOD)) in the intestine, leading to the increased in PC and MDA contents, suggesting that OTC had a synergistic effect on Cd-induced oxidative damage. In the hepatopancreas, although OTC alone increased OTC accumulation, it did not affect PC and MDA contents. Compared to Cd alone, Cd plus OTC reduced MDA content, which was closely related to the improvement of detoxification (i.e., GSH content, mRNA levels of CYP isoforms, EROD activity, gene expressions and activities of GPx, GR and GST), and antioxidant defense (gene expressions and activities of CAT and SOD, metallothionein content). Aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) and nuclear factor E2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) transcriptional expressions were positively correlated with most detoxification- and antioxidant-related gene expressions, respectively, indicating that AhR and Nrf2 were involved in the regulation of these gene expressions. Our results unambiguously demonstrated that OTC had tissue-specific effects on Cd-induced toxicological effect in E. sinensis, which contributed to accurately evaluating Cd toxicity modulated by TCs in crab.

RESUMO

Sclerotinia sclerotiorum (Lib.) de Bary, a polyphagous necrotrophic fungal pathogen, has brought about significant losses in agriculture and floriculture. Until now, the most common method for controlling S. sclerotiorum has been the application of fungicides. Xenocoumacin 1 (Xcn1) is a potential biopesticide having versatile antimicrobial activities, generated by Xenorhabdus nematophila. This study was intended to isolate Xcn1 from X. nematophila YL001 and clarify its efficacies for S. sclerotiorum control. Xcn1 demonstrated a wider antifungal spectrum against 10 plant-pathogenic fungi. It also exhibited a strong inhibitory effect on the mycelial growth of S. sclerotiorum with an EC50 value of 3.00 µg/mL. Pot experiments indicated that Xcn1 effectively inhibited disease extension on oilseed rape and broad bean plants caused by S. sclerotiorum. Morphological and ultrastructural observations revealed that the hyphae of S. sclerotiorum became twisted, shriveled, and deformed at the growing points after treatment with Xcn1 at 3.00 µg/mL and that the subcellular fractions also became abnormal concurrently, especially the mitochondrial structure. Moreover, Xcn1 also increased cell membrane permeability and decreased the content of exopolysaccharide as well as suppressing the activities of polygalacturonase and cellulase of S. sclerotiorum, but exerted no effects on oxalic acid production. This study demonstrated that Xcn1 has great potential to be developed as a new biopesticide for the control of S. sclerotiorum.

RESUMO

Coke plays a key role as the skeleton of the charge column in BF. The gas path formed by the coke layer in the BF has a decisive influence on gas permeability. At high temperatures, the interface between coke and ore undergoes a melting reaction of coke and a reduction reaction of ore. The better the reducibility of the ore, the more conducive it is to the coupling reaction of ore and coke. The melting loss reaction of coke becomes more intense, and the corresponding strength of coke will decrease, which will affect the permeability of the blast furnace and is not conducive to the smooth operation of the blast furnace. Especially with a deterioration in iron ore quality, BF operation faces severe challenges, which makes it necessary to find an effective way to strengthen BF operation. In this study, a melting-dropping furnace was used to develop and clarify the high-temperature interaction between coke and iron ores with different layer thicknesses. The influencing factors were studied by establishing a gas permeability mathematical model and observing the metallographic microscope images of samples after the coke solution loss reaction. The relationships between coke layer thickness, distribution of gas flow, and pressure drop were obtained. The results showed that, under certain conditions, the gas permeability property of a furnace burden has been improved after the coke layer thickness increased. Upon observing the size of coke particles at the interface reaction site, the degree of melting loss reaction can be determined. A smaller particle size indicates more melting loss reaction. A dripping eigenvalue for molten metal was introduced to evaluate the dynamic changes in the comprehensive dripping properties of molten metal of furnace burden, which showed that the dripping eigenvalue for the molten metal could deteriorate because of the unruly thickness and the coke layer thickness should be limited through considering the operational indicators of the blast furnace.

RESUMO

As the incidence of precocious puberty has risen in recent years and the age at puberty onset is younger, children may be at increased risk for health consequences associated with the early onset of puberty. Bisphenol A (BPA) is recognized as an endocrine disruptor chemical that is reported to induce precocious puberty. The effect of BPA exposure modes, times, and doses (especially low dose) were controversial. In the present study, we evaluated the potential effects of maternal exposure to low-dose BPA on the hypothalamus, particularly on the arcuate (ARC) nucleus and anteroventral periventricular (AVPV) nucleus during peri-puberty in offspring of BPA-treated rats. Pregnant rats were exposed to corn oil vehicle, 0.05 mg·kg-1·day-1 BPA, or 5 mg·kg-1·day-1 from gestation day 1 (GD1) to postnatal day 21 (PND21) by daily gavage. Body weight (BW), vaginal opening (VO), ovarian follicular luteinization, and relevant hormone concentrations were measured; hypothalamic Kiss1 and GnRH1 levels by western immunoblot analysis were also assessed as indices of puberty onset. During or after exposure, low-dose BPA restricted BW after birth (at PND1 and PND5), and subsequently accelerated puberty onset by promoting the expression of prepubertal Kiss1 and GnRH1 in the AVPV nucleus on PND30, leading to advanced VO, an elevation in LH and FSH concentrations (on PND30). We also noted increased BW on PND30 and PND35. Maternal oral exposure to low-dose BPA altered the BW curve during the neonatal and peripubertal periods, and subsequently accelerated puberty onset by promoting prepubertal Kiss1 expression in the AVPV nucleus.

RESUMO

Objective: To compare the difference in the effectiveness of ranibizumab (LU) and aflibercept (AF) in the treatment of diabetic retinopathy (DR). Methods: Ninety-four patients with DR admitted to Sunshine Union Hospital from August 2020 to February 2022 were selected for the study and were divided into LU group (n = 47) and AF group (n = 47) according to the random number table method. Both groups underwent 25G vitrectomy in our hospital, with LU injected into the vitreous before surgery in the LU group and AF in the AF group. Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and pigment epithelium-derived factor (PEDF) in the pre-and post-injection atrial water were compared between the two groups, and the operative time, intraoperative bleeding, and the occurrence of medically induced fissures were recorded in both groups. In addition, the expression of best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), Central Macular Thickness (CMT), and inflammatory factors were compared before and after surgery. Finally, patients were counted for adverse reactions and prognosis of DR recurrence during treatment. Results: After injection, VEGF decreased and PEDF increased in both groups (P < .001). There were no differences in operative time (P = .604), intraoperative bleeding rate (P = .694), the incidence of medically induced fissure (P = .557), BCVA [P = .665 (T0), P > .999 (T1), P = .727 (T2)], and CMT [P = .688 (T0), P = .065 (T1), P = .148 (T2)] between the two groups, while IL-6, IL-8, and MMP-9 were lower in the AF group than in the LU group at 2 months after surgery (P < .001). Finally, there was no difference between both groups in terms of adverse effects and prognosis of DR recurrence rate (P = 1.000, .478). Conclusion: Both vitreous cavity injections of LU and AF can effectively reduce the expression of vascular-related factors in the atrial fluid of DR patients, but AF has a more significant inhibitory effect on the level of inflammatory factors in patients in the short term after treatment.

RESUMO

Stem cell therapy holds great promise for future clinical practice for treatment of advanced liver diseases. However, the fate of stem cells after transplantation, including the distribution, viability, and the cell clearance, has not been fully elucidated. Herein, recent advances regarding the imaging tools for stem cells tracking mainly in chronic liver diseases with the advantages and disadvantages of each approach have been described. Magnetic resonance imaging is a promising clinical imaging modality due to non-radioactivity, excellent penetrability, and high spatial resolution. Fluorescence imaging and radionuclide imaging demonstrate relatively increased sensitivity, with the latter excelling in real-time monitoring. Reporter genes specialize in long-term tracing. Nevertheless, the disadvantages of low sensitivity, radiation, exogenous gene risk are inevitably present in each of these means, respectively. In this review, we aim to comprehensively evaluate the current state of methods for tracking of stem cell, highlighting their strengths and weaknesses, and providing insights into their future potential. Multimodality imaging strategies may overcome the inherent limitations of single-modality imaging by combining the strengths of different imaging techniques to provide more comprehensive information in the clinical setting.

BACKGROUND: Colorectal cancer (CRC) screening faces two major challenges: insufficient screening coverage and poor adherence. A smartphone applet named "Early Screening Assistant (ESA)" was developed to create an online risk-assessment and fecal occult blood test (FOBT) at home. This retrospective study was designed to evaluate whether the new CRC screening strategy can improve the colonoscopy participation rate (PR) and lesion detection rate (DR). METHODS: In total, 6194 individuals who accepted normal health examinations and CRC screening based on the ESA from June 2020 to May 2022 were assigned to the ESA group. Accordingly, 7923 inhabitants who only accepted normal health examinations were assigned to the control group. The colonoscopy PR and neoplastic lesion DR were then compared between the two groups. RESULTS: Overall, a higher proportion of subjects in the ESA group (285 of 6194 [4.6%]) completed colonoscopy than in the control group (126 of 7923, [1.6%]), p < 0.01). The neoplastic lesion DR also significantly increased in the ESA group (76 of 6194 [1.22%]) compared with the control group (15 of 7923 [0.19%]) (p < 0.01). The adjusted diagnostic sensitivity and specificity of the "Online assessment + FOBT at home" were 41.5% and 62.6% for neoplastic lesions, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: This retrospective cohort study confirmed that the new CRC screening strategy based on the "Online assessment + FOBT at home" can improve colonoscopy participation and the neoplastic lesion detection rate and may represent a promising screening strategy for CRC. TRIAL REGISTRATION: This study was registered in China Clinical Trial Registry ( https://www.chictr.org.cn ) on 29/09/2022. REGISTRATION NUMBER: ChiCTR2200064186.

RESUMO

The authors used a meta-analysis to evaluate the risks of gastrointestinal adverse events in the cotreatment of malignant tumors with nivolumab and ipilimumab. The meta-analysis revealed that the most common gastrointestinal adverse event at all grades was diarrhea, followed by nausea, decreased appetite, vomiting, constipation, colitis and abdominal pain. The most common severe gastrointestinal adverse events were colitis and diarrhea. Different administration schemes differ in the risk of such events, and thus these events may be minimized by modulating the administration scheme of the cotreatment.

RESUMO

To evaluate the relationship between the use of proton pump inhibitors (PPI) and the risk of gastric cancer and colorectal cancer by using meta-analysis. Computer search PUBMED, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, CNKI and Wanfang database to obtain relevant literature on the use of PPI and the risk of gastric cancer and colorectal cancer, extract relevant data, and use Stata14.0 for Meta-analysis. A total of 24 articles were included, including 12 articles for gastric cancer and 12 articles for colorectal cancer. A total of 5 313 749 persons were included in the study and analysis. Meta-analysis results showed that the risk of gastric cancer in PPI users was significantly increased [risk ratio (RR) = 2.04, 95% confidence interval (CI) (1.33-2.75)], and the regional subgroup analysis results showed that in Europe [RR = 2.01, 95% CI (0.92, 3.09), P < 0.05] and Asia [RR = 2.15, 95% CI (1.16, 3.14), P < 0.05] This risk is higher, and Asia is higher than Europe. The risk of colorectal cancer is slightly increased [RR = 1. 22, 95% CI (1.03, 1.40, P < 0.05], and the regional subgroup analysis results show that in Europe [RR = 1.05 95% CI (0.98, 1.12), P < 0.05] and Asia [RR = 1.18, 95% CI (1.10, 1.27), P < 0.05]. This risk is low, but Asia is higher than Europe. The use of PPI significantly increases gastric cancer However, the risk of colorectal cancer is not significantly increased. The risk of gastric cancer and colorectal cancer in the population using PPI in Asia is higher than that in Europe.

RESUMO

Cranioplasty is a common neurosurgical procedure; however, the optimal material choice remains controversial. At the time of this writing, autologous bone, the preferred choice for primary cranioplasty, has a high incidence of complications such as infection and resorption, thus requiring frequent use of synthetic materials. Therefore, this study aimed to compare the clinical benefits of titanium mesh (Ti), polyetheretherketone (PEEK), and composite bone cement (CBC) in cranioplasty to provide a clear selection basis for clinicians and patients. This study retrospectively collected data from 207 patients who underwent cranioplasty with Ti (n=129), PEEK (n=54), and CBC (n=24) between January 2018 and December 2020 at Henan Provincial People's Hospital. Postoperative follow-up information after 6 months was used to compare the long-term effects of the 3 materials on the patients. There were no significant differences in the overall complication rate after cranioplasty among the 3 materials. However, subcutaneous effusion was more frequent with PEEK (24.07%) and CBC (20.83%) than with Ti (2.33%). Second, there were no significant differences in the increase in Glasgow Outcome Scale and Karnofsky Performance Status scores after cranioplasty among the 3 materials. Finally, we found that PEEK had the highest patient satisfaction and hospitalization cost, whereas the opposite was true for Ti. Although the surgical outcomes of the 3 implant materials were similar, an examination of clinical outcomes such as patient satisfaction showed significant differences, deepening people's perceptions of the 3 materials.
