OBJECTIVE: WeChat-based nursing interventions alleviate mental distress. This study intended to investigate the effect of WeChat online education and care (WOEC) on the mental health of caregivers and the satisfaction of elderly postoperative colorectal cancer (CRC) patients. METHODS: In total, 92 elderly postoperative CRC patients and 92 caregivers were randomly separated into the WOEC group (46 patients and 46 caregivers) and the control care group (46 patients and 46 caregivers). Caregivers received corresponding intervention for 8 weeks. Beck depression inventory (BDI) and beck anxiety inventory (BAI) of caregivers, and self-report satisfaction (SRS) of patients were assessed. RESULTS: In caregivers, BDI scores at 8 weeks after enrollment (W8) (P = 0.024) and BAI score at W8 (P = 0.009), depression severity at W8 (P = 0.036), as well as anxiety severity at 4 weeks after enrollment (W4) (P = 0.028) and W8 (P = 0.047) were declined in the WOEC group versus the control care group. Regarding patients, SRS scores at W4 (P = 0.044) and W8 (P = 0.025), the satisfaction degree at W4 (P = 0.033) and W8 (P = 0.034), as well as the satisfied and very satisfied rates at W4 (P = 0.031) and W8 (P = 0.029) were elevated in the WOEC group versus the control care group. By subgroup analyses, WOEC exhibited favorable effects on reducing mental stress in caregivers of patients with eastern cooperative oncology group performance status at enrollment <3, and in caregivers with an education level of high school & university and above. CONCLUSION: WOEC effectively relieves mental stress in caregivers of elderly postoperative CRC patients, and also elevates satisfaction in these patients.

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is an aggressive subtype of breast cancer with limited therapeutic options. Interleukin-1 receptor type 2 (IL1R2) promotes breast tumor-initiating cell (BTIC) self-renewal and tumor growth in TNBC, indicating that targeting it could improve patient treatment. Here, we observed that IL1R2 blockade strongly attenuated macrophage recruitment and the polarization of tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) to inhibit BTIC self-renewal and CD8+ T cell exhaustion, which resulted in reduced tumor burden and prolonged survival in TNBC mouse models. IL1R2 activation by TAM-derived IL1ß increased PD-L1 expression by interacting with the transcription factor yin yang 1 (YY1) and inducing YY1 ubiquitination and proteasomal degradation in both TAMs and TNBC cells. Loss of YY1 alleviated the transcriptional repression of c-Fos, which is a transcriptional activator of PD-L1. Combined treatment with an IL1R2-neutralizing antibody and anti-PD-1 led to enhanced anti-tumor efficacy and reduced TAMs, BTICs, and exhausted CD8+ T cells. These results suggest that IL1R2 blockade might be a strategy to potentiate immune checkpoint blockade efficacy in TNBC to improve patient outcomes.

Sex hormones play a pivotal role in the growth and development of the skeletal, neurological, and reproductive systems. In women, the dysregulation of sex hormones can result in various health complications such as acne, hirsutism, and irregular menstruation. One of the most prevalent diseases associated with excess androgens is polycystic ovary syndrome with a hyperandrogenic phenotype. Probiotics have shown the potential to enhance the secretion of ovarian sex hormones. However, the underlying mechanism of action remains unclear. Furthermore, comprehensive reviews detailing how probiotics modulate ovarian sex hormones are scarce. This review seeks to shed light on the potential mechanisms through which probiotics influence the production of ovarian sex hormones. The role of probiotics across various biological axes, including the gut-ovarian, gut-brain-ovarian, gut-liver-ovarian, gut-pancreas-ovarian, and gut-fat-ovarian axes, with a focus on the direct impact of probiotics on the ovaries via the gut and their effects on brain gonadotropins is discussed. It is also proposed herein that probiotics can significantly influence the onset, progression, and complications of ovarian sex hormone abnormalities. In addition, this review provides a theoretical basis for the therapeutic application of probiotics in managing sex hormone-related health conditions.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the CT features of incidental rib enhancement (RE) and to summarize the CT characteristics for distinguishing the RE from sclerotic metastasis (SM) in patients with malignancies. MATERIAL AND METHODS: This retrospective observational study enrolled 79 patients with RE (involved 133 ribs) during October 2014 and December 2021. Another 53 patients with SM (160 SM) in the same period were selected randomly for comparison. The location, enhancement patterns of RE were reviewed. The CT values of RE regions and SM were measured and statistically analyzed. RESULTS: Most REs (70 patients, 88.6%) were in the 1st to 6th ribs. 50 patients had solitary RE and 29 with multiple REs in a regional distribution. All the REs were closely connected to the intercostal venous plexus (ICVP) ipsilateral to the injection site. No visible abnormalities on unenhanced scans were detected in all REs. One hundred and twenty REs (90.2%) had nodular/patchy enhancement. The CT value of RE regions in the venous phase was lower than that in the arterial phase (589.8 ± 344.2 HU versus 1188.5 ± 325.3 HU, p < 0.001). During the venous phase, most REs (125, 94.0%) shrank or disappeared. SM appeared similar on both contrast-enhanced and unenhanced scans in terms of shape and CT values. CONCLUSION: The RE demonstrated characteristic CT features. The manifestations of nodular/patchy enhancement in the arterial phase, decreased density and shrinkage or disappearance during the venous phase, and no abnormality on unenhanced scans, as well as a close connection with the ICVP, may help differentiate RE from SM.

Objectives: We aim to investigate the functional profiles of perilesional gray matter (GM) in epileptic patients with focal cortical dysplasia (FCD) and to correlate these profiles with FCD II subtypes, surgical outcomes, and different antiseizure medications (ASMs) treatment response patterns. Methods: Nine patients with drug-responsive epilepsy and 30 patients with drug-resistant epilepsy (11 were histologically confirmed FCD type IIa, 19 were FCD type IIb) were included. Individual-specific perilesional GM and contralateral homotopic GM layer masks were generated. These masks underwent a two-voxel (2 mm) dilation from the FCD lesion and contralateral homotopic region, resulting in 10 GM layers (20 mm). Layer 1, the innermost, progressed to Layer 10, the outermost. Amplitude of low-frequency fluctuations (ALFF) and regional homogeneity (ReHo) analyses were conducted to assess the functional characteristics of ipsilateral perilesional GM and contralateral homotopic GM. Results: Compared to the contralateral homotopic GM, a significant reduction of ALFF was detected at ipsilateral perilesional GM layer 1 to 6 in FCD type IIa (after Bonferroni correction p < 0.005, paired t-test), whereas a significant decrease was observed at ipsilateral perilesional GM layer 1 to 2 in FCD type IIb (after Bonferroni correction p < 0.005, paired t-test). Additionally, a significant decrease of the ReHo was detected at ipsilateral perilesional GM layer 1 compared to the CHRs in FCD type IIb. Notably, complete resection of functional perilesional GM alterations did not correlate with surgical outcomes. Compared to the contralateral homotopic GM, a decreased ALFF in the ipsilateral perilesional GM layer was detected in drug-responsive patients, whereas decreased ALFF in the ipsilateral perilesional GM layer 1-6 and decreased ReHo at ipsilateral perilesional GM layer 1 were observed in drug-resistant patients (after Bonferroni correction p < 0.005, paired t-test). Conclusion: Our findings indicate distinct functional profiles of perilesional GM based on FCD histological subtypes and ASMs' response patterns. Importantly, our study illustrates that the identified functional alterations in perilesional GM may not provide sufficient evidence to determine the epileptogenic boundary required for surgical resection.

RESUMO

Immunogenic cell death (ICD) is one of the 12 distinct cell death forms, which can trigger immune system to fight against cancer cells. During ICD, a number of cellular changes occur that can stimulate an immune response, including the release of molecules called damage-associated molecular patterns (DAMPs), signaling to immune cells to recognize and attack cancer cells. By virtue of their pivotal role in immune surveillance, ICD-based drug development has been a new approach to explore novel therapeutic combinations and personalized strategies in cancer therapy. Several small molecules and microbes can induce ICD-relevant signals and cause cancer cell death. In this review, we highlighted the role of microbe-mediate ICD in cancer immunotherapy and described the mechanisms through which microbes might serve as ICD inducers in cancer treatment. We also discussed current attempts to combine microbes with chemotherapy regimens or immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) in the treatment of cancer patients. We surmise that manipulation of microbes may guide personalized therapeutic interventions to facilitate anticancer immune response.

BACKGROUND: The sex difference in the association between grip strength and mild cognitive impairment (MCI) remains controversial and unclear. METHODS: This is a part of a chronic disease cohort study conducted in rural areas, Fuxin, Liaoning Province, China. At the baseline survey, a total of 2633 participants aged 35- 85 were included in the cross-sectional study. Handgrip strength (HGS, kg) was measured by a dynamometer (Jamar +). MCI were assessed using the Chinese version of the Montreal Cognitive Assessment-Basic (MOCA-BC). Then, a total of 1667 cognitively normal individuals (NCs) were planed to follow up and to assess the incident MCI after two years. We used logistic regression to examine the association between HGS (as a continuous variable and quintiles) and MCI and analyzed the interaction between sex and HGS on MCI. Models stratified by sex were adjusted for demographic information (age, ethnicity, education, marital status, income, physical labor level), modifiable risk factors (body mass index, smoking, drinking) and disease history (hypertension, diabetes, dyslipidemia and coronary heart disease). Baseline MOCA-BC scores were additionally adjusted in the longitudinal study. RESULTS: In the cross-sectional study, participants were on average 56.6 ± 9.8 years, and 1713 (65.1%) were females. In the cohort study, 743 individuals were followed up with an average age of 55.9 ± 9.6 years, which included 530 (71.3%) females. The cumulative incidence of MCI over a two-year period was 17.1%. In the cross-sectional study, compared to the highest quintile of HGS, the lowest HGS was associated with higher risk of MCI in males (odds ratio [OR]: 2.66; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.54, 4.64) and females (OR: 1.70; 95% CI: 1.17, 2.49) with adjustment of potential confounding factors. In the cohort study, compared to the highest quintile of HGS, the lowest HGS was associated with an increased risk of incident MCI in females (OR: 3.93; 95% CI: 1.39, 13.01) but not in males (OR: 0.56; 95% CI: 0.11, 2.94, P for interaction = 0.015). CONCLUSIONS: Lower grip strength is a risk factor for mild cognitive impairment and predicts a higher risk of MCI in females.

Defects in metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) can significantly change their local microstructures, thus notably leading to an alteration-induced performance in sorption or catalysis. However, achieving de novo defect engineering in MOFs under ambient conditions without the scarification of their crystallinity remains a challenge. Herein, we successfully synthesize defective ZIF-7 through 60Co gamma ray radiation under ambient conditions. The obtained ZIF-7 is defect-rich but also has excellent crystallinity, enhanced BET surface area, and hierarchical pore structure. Moreover, the amount and structure of these defects within ZIF-7 were determined from the two-dimensional (2D) 13C-1H frequency-switched Lee-Goldburg heteronuclear correlation (FSLG-HETCOR) spectra, continuous rotation electron diffraction (cRED), and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM). Interestingly, the defects in ZIF-7 all strongly bind to CO2, leading to a remarkable enhancement of the CO2 sorption capability compared with that synthesized by the solvothermal method.

ABSTRACT: This study aims to investigate whether venous injection of sedative agent or regional nerve block in alliance with major anesthesia could decrease the risk of postoperative delirium occurrence in patients receiving cardiothoracic surgery. Electronic academic databases were retrieved for related publications, and statistical software was used for data pooling and analysis. Forest plot was used to show the pooled sensitivity, specificity, and diagnostic odds ratio. Combined receiver operating characteristic curve was used to show the area under the curve of complex data. Seven studies were included for analysis. The risk of occurrence of delirium still showed no difference (risk rate = 0.93, 95% CI, 0.85-1.03) between the intervention group and placebo group. Postoperative pain feeling was more alleviated in patients with prophylactic application of regional nerve block. In addition, prophylactic application of regional nerve block could decrease the risk of postoperative in-hospital stay (risk rate = 0.28, 95% CI, 0.02-0.54). Our study demonstrated that, in elderly patients or pediatric patients undergoing cardiac surgery, prophylactic application of regional nerve block failed to decrease the incidence of postoperative delirium. However, the option of regional nerve block could decrease the duration of in-hospitalization stay and alleviate the acute pain during the postoperative period after open-heart surgery.

This study investigated the impact of polymeric proanthocyanidins (PPC) on the physicochemical characteristics of maize starch with varying amylose content, and their potential interaction mechanism. PPC with a lower content (1 %) reduced the viscoelasticity of the high amylose maize starch (HAM) system, inhibited amylose rearrangement, and enhanced its fluidity. However, excessive PPC restrained the interaction between PPC and amylose. In contrast to HAM, PPC improved the gelation ability of waxy maize starch (WAM) as PPC concentration was raised. PPC suppressed the recrystallization of starch during storage, and PPC had a superior inhibition influence on the retrogradation of WAM in comparison to HAM. This indicated that amylopectin was more likely to interact with PPC than amylose. Hydrogen bonds were the main driving force between PPC and starch chains, which was clarified by Fourier transform-infrared, nuclear magnetic resonance, X-ray diffraction, iodine bonding reaction, and dynamic light scattering data. Additionally, the mechanism of interaction between PPC and the two starch components may be similar, and variance in physicochemical attributes can be primarily credited to the percentage of amylose to amylopectin in starch.

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the long-term safety and efficacy of atezolizumab monotherapy in Chinese patients with previously treated, locally advanced or metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this open-label, single-arm, multicenter study, patients received atezolizumab 1200 mg intravenously on Day 1 of each 21-day cycle. The primary endpoint was incidence of atezolizumab-related serious adverse events (SAEs). Secondary endpoints included other safety and efficacy measures. Patients with available tumor tissue and blood samples underwent biomarker analyses. Patients with available tumor biopsies underwent exome sequencing. RESULTS: The safety and evaluable populations included 101 and 97 patients, respectively. Exome sequencing data were available for 31 patients. Median follow-up time was 27.43 months. Atezolizumab-related SAEs and immune-related adverse events occurred in 25.7% and 47.5% of the safety population, respectively, and in the following subgroups: central nervous system metastases (n = 14), 35.7% and 35.7%; squamous NSCLC (n = 39), 33.3% and 53.8%. The 24-month overall survival rate was 37.4%. Median overall survival and progression-free survival by RECIST v1.1 were 15.31 and 2.86 months, respectively; objective response rate was 16.5% in the evaluable population. PRRC2C (odds ratio: 12.780, P = 0.014) and ZMYND8 (odds ratio: 19.963, P = 0.016) gene mutations were significantly enriched in atezolizumab responders vs non-responders. Patients with CD8+ TILs > 10% vs ≤ 10% were significantly more likely to be atezolizumab responders. CONCLUSION: No new safety concerns were raised, and clinically meaningful benefits of atezolizumab monotherapy were shown. The results of the biomarker analyses may guide future therapeutic strategies.

Background: Simultaneous pancreas and kidney transplantation (SPKT) is an effective treatment option for individuals who suffer from both diabetes mellitus and renal failure. However, experiments exploring nurse-led multidisciplinary team management during the perioperative management of patients undergoing SPKT are currently limited. This study aims to explore the clinical performance of a transplant nurse-led multidisciplinary team (MDT) in the perioperative management of SPKT patients. Methods: A total of 218 patients who underwent SPKT were randomly assigned to either a control group (n=116) receiving conventional care or an intervention group (n=102) managed through a transplant nurse-led MDT approach. The incidence of postoperative complications, hospital stay, total hospitalization cost, readmission rate, and postoperative nursing quality were compared between these 2 groups. Results: The intervention and control groups showed no significant differences in age, gender, and body mass index. Compared with the control group, the intervention group had a significantly lower incidence of postoperative pulmonary infection and gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding (27.6% vs. 14.7% and 31.0% vs. 15.7%, respectively, both P<0.05). Compared to the control group, the intervention group had significantly lower hospitalization costs, length of hospital stay, and readmission rate 30 days after discharge (32.98±9.10 vs. 36.78±15.36, 26.47±13.4 vs. 31.03±11.61 and 31.4% vs. 50.0%, respectively, all P<0.05). Additionally, the intervention group had significantly better quality of postoperative nursing care than the control group (11.61±0.69 vs. 9.64±1.42, P<0.01), the availability of infection control and prevention measures (11.74±0.61 vs. 10.53±1.11, P<0.01), the effectiveness of health education (11.73±0.61 vs. 10.41±1.06, P<0.01), the effectiveness of rehabilitation training (11.77±0.54 vs. 10.37±0.96, P<0.01), and the patient satisfaction with nursing care (11.83±0.42 vs. 10.81±1.08, P<0.01). Conclusions: The nurse-led MDT model for transplant patients can reduce complications, shorten hospital stays, and save costs. It also provides clear guidelines for nurses, improving care quality and aiding patient recovery. Trial Registration: Chinese Clinical Trial Registry ChiCTR1900026543.

Objectives: We aimed to investigate ideal cardiovascular health (CVH), its relationship with handgrip strength, and its components in rural China. Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study of 3,203 rural Chinese individuals aged ≥35 years in Liaoning Province, China. Of these, 2,088 participants completed the follow-up survey. Handgrip strength was estimated using a handheld dynamometer and was normalized to body mass. Ideal CVH was assessed using seven health indicators (smoking, body mass index, physical activity, diet, cholesterol, blood pressure, and glucose). Binary logistic regression analyses were performed to assess the correlation between handgrip strength and ideal CVH. Results: Women had a higher rate of ideal cardiovascular health (CVH) than men (15.7% vs. 6.8%, P < 0.001). Higher handgrip strength correlated with a higher proportion of ideal CVH (P for trend <0.001). After adjusting for confounding factors, the odds ratios (95% confidence interval) of ideal CVH across increasing handgrip strength tripartite were 1.00 (reference), 2.368 (1.773, 3.164), and 3.642 (2.605, 5.093) in the cross-sectional study and 1.00 (reference), 2.088 (1.074, 4.060), and 3.804 (1.829, 7.913) in the follow-up study (all P < 0.05). Conclusion: In rural China, the ideal CVH rate was low, and positively correlated with handgrip strength. Grip strength can be a rough predictor of ideal CVH and can be used to provide guidelines for improving CVH in rural China.

AIMS/INTRODUCTION: Distal symmetric polyneuropathy (DSPN) is a common complication of type 2 diabetes mellitus, but the underlining mechanisms have not yet been elucidated. The current study was designed to screen the feature metabolites classified as potential biomarkers, and to provide deeper insights into the underlying distinctive metabolic changes during disease progression. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Plasma metabolite profiles were obtained by the ultra-high liquid chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry method from healthy control participants, patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and patients with DSPN. Potential biomarkers were selected through comprehensive analysis of statistically significant differences between groups. RESULTS: Overall, 938 metabolites were identified. Among them, 12 metabolites (dimethylarginine, N6-acetyllysine, N-acetylhistidine, N,N,N-trimethyl-alanylproline betaine, cysteine, 7-methylguanine, N6-carbamoylthreonyladenosine, pseudouridine, 5-methylthioadenosine, N2,N2-dimethylguanosine, aconitate and C-glycosyl tryptophan) were identified as the specific biomarkers. The content of 12 metabolites were significantly higher in the DSPN group compared with the other two groups. Additionally, they showed good performance to discriminate the DSPN state. Correlation analyses showed that the levels of 12 metabolites might be more closely related to the glucose metabolic changes, followed by the levels of lipid metabolism. CONCLUSIONS: The finding of the 12 signature metabolites might provide a novel perspective for the pathogenesis of DSPN. Future studies are required to test this observation further.

Dissimilarities in metal laser welding lead to brittleness in welded joints due to differences in the thermophysical and chemical properties between dissimilar base materials. To overcome such brittleness, the addition of a preset coating onto the base materials as an interlayer is a method for attaining reliable welded joints. Nd:YAG laser butt welding of DP590 dual-phase steel and 304 stainless, both with a thickness of 1 mm, was performed with a preset nickel coating as an interlayer using an electroplating process. The relationship between the microstructure and the mechanical properties of the welded joints was researched, the microstructure and composition of the weldment were analyzed, and the microhardness, tensile strength and corrosion resistance were tested. The results showed that the preset nickel coating increased the content of Ni element in the welded joints, which is beneficial to the formation of lath martensite. The average hardness of the welded joints increased by 12%, and the tensile strength was higher than 370 MPa. The corrosion rate of the welded joints can be slowed down, and the corrosion resistance can be improved by increasing the nickel coating.

OBJECTIVE: This study explored the role of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in post stroke anxiety (PSA) in noncardiogenic ischemic stroke patients. METHODS: 180 patients with noncardiogenic ischemic stroke were consecutively enrolled from January 2019 to December 2019. All patients underwent polysomnography (PSG) to assess for OSA. OSA severity was identified based on the apnea hypopnea index (AHI), i.e., no OSA (AHI <5), mild OSA (5 = AHI <15), and moderate to severe OSA (AHI ≥15). Neuropsychological assessments were performed at acute phase and 6 months later to evaluate anxiety (Chinese version of the Zung self-rating anxiety scale [SAS], and Beck Anxiety Inventory [BAI]), depression (Patient Health Questionnaire-9, [PHQ-9]), and cognition (Mini-mental state examination, [MMSE], and Montreal Cognitive Assessment, [MOCA]). Clinical diagnoses of PSA were made based on interviews and the anxiety scales. The correlations between PSA and OSA were investigated in Logistic regression analysis. RESULTS: The prevalence of acute-phase and 6-month PSA were 27 (15%) and 52 (28.9%) respectively. Moderate to severe OSA and post-stroke depression (PSD) were the influencing factors of acute-phase PSA. 6-Month PSA was not associated with OSA but was associated with acute-phase anxiety, education status and MOCA. Logistic regression analysis including respiratory and sleeping parameters showed that AHI and micro-arousal index contributed to acute-phase PSA. CONCLUSIONS: Acute-phase PSA was associated with OSA severity, potentially through OSA-caused sleep discontinuity. While 6-month PSA was associated with acute-phase anxiety, highlighting the need for integration of screening for and management of OSA and PSA at acute phase.

Our previous studies have showed that C-C motif chemokine ligand 20 (CCL20) advanced tumor progression and enhanced the chemoresistance of cancer cells by positively regulating breast cancer stem cell (BCSC) self-renewal. However, it is unclear whether CCL20 affects breast cancer progression by remodeling the tumor microenvironment (TME). Here, we observed that polymorphonuclear myeloid-derived suppressor cells (PMN-MDSCs) were remarkably enriched in TME of CCL20-overexpressing cancer cell orthotopic allograft tumors. Mechanistically, CCL20 activated the differentiation of granulocyte-monocyte progenitors (GMPs) via its receptor C-C motif chemokine receptor 6 (CCR6) leading to the PMN-MDSC expansion. PMN-MDSCs from CCL20-overexpressing cell orthotopic allograft tumors (CCL20-modulated PMN-MDSCs) secreted amounts of C-X-C motif chemokine ligand 2 (CXCL2) and increased ALDH+ BCSCs via activating CXCR2/NOTCH1/HEY1 signaling pathway. Furthermore, C-X-C motif chemokine receptor 2 (CXCR2) antagonist SB225002 enhanced the docetaxel (DTX) effects on tumor growth by decreasing BCSCs in CCL20high-expressing tumors. These findings elucidated how CCL20 modulated the TME to promote cancer development, indicating a new therapeutic strategy by interfering with the interaction between PMN-MDSCs and BCSCs in breast cancer, especially in CCL20high-expressing breast cancer.

Satellite cells (SCs) are muscle stem cells responsible for muscle hypertrophic growth and the regeneration of damaged muscle. Proliferation and differentiation of the pectoralis major (p. major) muscle SCs are responsive to thermal stress in turkeys, which are, in part, regulated by mechanistic target of rapamycin (mTOR) and Frizzled7 (Fzd7)-mediated wingless-type mouse mammary tumor virus integration site family/planar cell polarity (Wnt/PCP) pathways in a growth dependent-manner. It is not known if chicken p. major SCs respond to thermal stress in a manner similar to that of turkey p. major SCs. The objective of the current study was to investigate the effects of thermal stress and mTOR and Wnt/PCP pathways on the proliferation, differentiation, and expression of myogenic transcriptional regulatory factors in SCs isolated from the p. major muscle of a current modern commercial (MC) broiler line as compared to that of a Cornish Rock (BPM8) and Randombred (RBch) chicken line in the 1990s. The MC line SCs had lower proliferation and differentiation rates and decreased expression of myoblast determination factor 1 (MyoD) and myogenin (MyoG) compared to the BPM8 and RBch lines. Heat stress (43°C) increased proliferation and MyoD expression in all the cell lines, while cold stress (33°C) showed a suppressive effect compared to the control temperature (38°C). Satellite cell differentiation was altered with heat and cold stress in a cell line-specific manner. In general, the differentiation of the MC SCs was less responsive to both heat and cold stress compared to the BPM8 and RBch lines. Knockdown of the expression of either mTOR or Fzd7 decreased the proliferation, differentiation, and the expression of MyoD and MyoG in all the cell lines. The MC line during proliferation was more dependent on the expression of mTOR and Fzd7 than during differentiation. Thus, modern commercial meat-type chickens have decreased myogenic activity and temperature sensitivity of SCs in an mTOR- and Fzd7-dependent manner. The decrease in muscle regeneration will make modern commercial broilers more susceptible to the negative effects of myopathies with muscle fiber necrosis requiring satellite cell-mediated repair.

PURPOSE: To summarize the magnetic resonance imaging manifestations of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) with and without progression after stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) and evaluate the treatment effect using the modified Liver Reporting and Data System (LI-RADS). METHODS: Between January 2015 and December 2020, 102 patients with SBRT-treated HCC were included. Tumor size, signal intensity, and enhancement patterns at each follow-up period were analyzed. Three different patterns of enhancement: APHE and wash-out, non-enhancement, and delayed enhancement. For modified LI-RADS, delayed enhancement with no size increase were considered to be a "treatment-specific expected enhancement pattern" for LR-TR non-viable. RESULTS: Patients were divided into two groups: without (n = 96) and with local progression (n = 6). Among patients without local progression, APHE and wash-out pattern demonstrated conversion to the delayed enhancement (71.9%) and non-enhancement (20.8%) patterns, with decreased signal intensity on T1WI(92.9%) and DWI(99%), increased signal intensity on T1WI (99%), and decreased size. The signal intensity and enhancement patterns stabilized after 6-9 months. Six cases with progression exhibited tumor growth, APHE and wash-out, and increased signal intensity on T2WI/DWI. Based on the modified LI-RADS criteria, 74% and 95% showed LR-TR-nonviable in 3 and 12 months post-SBRT, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: After SBRT, the signal intensity and enhancement patterns of HCCs showed a temporal evolution. Tumor growth, APHE and wash-out, and increased signal intensity on T2WI/DWI indicates tumor progression. Modified LI-RADS criteria showed good performance in evaluating nonviable lesions after SBRT.
