RESUMO

The direct liquid-phase oxidative carbonylation of methane, utilizing abundant natural gas, offers a mild and straightforward alternative. However, most catalysts proposed for this process suffer from low acetic acid yields due to few active sites and rapid C1 oxygenate generation, impeding their industrial feasibility. Herein, we report a highly efficient 0.1Cu/Fe-HZSM-5-TF (TF denotes template-free synthesis) catalyst featuring exclusively mononuclear Fe and Cu anchored in the ZSM-5 channels. Under optimized conditions, the catalyst achieved an unprecedented acetic acid yield of 40.5 mmol gcat -1 h-1 at 50 °C, tripling the previous records of 12.0 mmol gcat -1 h-1. Comprehensive characterization, isotope-labeled experiments and density functional theory (DFT) calculations reveal that the homogeneous mononuclear Fe sites are responsible for the activation and oxidation of methane, while the neighboring Cu sites play a key role in retarding the oxidation process, promoting C-C coupling for effective acetic acid synthesis. Furthermore, the methyl-group carbon in acetic acid originates solely from methane, while its carbonyl-group carbon is derived exclusively from CO, rather than the conversion of other C1 oxygenates. The proposed bimetallic catalyst design not only overcomes the limitations of current catalysts but also generalizes the oxidative carbonylation of other alkanes, demonstrating promising advancements in sustainable chemical synthesis.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection is the most common etiology of chronic gastric. H. pylori gastritis would gradually evolve into gastric atrophy, intestinal metaplasia, dysplasia and malignant lesions. Herein, this study aimed to investigate the potential impact of H. pylori colonization density and depth on the severity of histological parameters of gastritis. METHODS: A prospective monocentric study was conducted from December 2019 to July 2022, enrolling patients with confirmed chronic H. pylori infection via histopathological evaluation. H. pylori colonization status was detected by immunohistochemical staining, pathological changes of gastric specimens were detected by hematoxylin eosin staining. Epidemiological, endoscopic and histopathological data were collected. RESULTS: A total of 1120 patients with a mean age of 45.8 years were included. Regardless of the previous history of H. pylori eradication treatment, significant correlations were observed between the density and depth of H. pylori colonization and the intensity of gastritis activity (all P < 0.05). Patients with the lowest level of H. pylori colonization density and depth exhibited the highest level of mild activity. In whole participants and anti-H. pylori treatment-naive participants, H. pylori colonization density and depth were markedly correlated with the severity of chronic gastritis and gastric atrophy (all P < 0.05). H. pylori colonization density (P = 0.001) and depth (P = 0.047) were significantly associated with ulcer formation in patients naive to any anti-H. pylori treatment. No significant associations were observed between the density and depth of H. pylori colonization and other histopathological findings including lymphadenia, lymphoid follicle formation and dysplasia. CONCLUSIONS: As the density and depth of H. pylori colonization increased, so did the activity and severity of gastritis, along with an elevated risk of ulcer formation.

To improve heat dissipation capability and enhance mechanical properties, a series of silica aerogel (SA) and modified glass fiber (GF)-filled SBR composites were prepared. It was found that the addition of SA successfully reduced the thermal conductivity of SBR by 35%, owing to the heat shield of the nanoscale porous structure of SA. Moreover, the addition of modified glass fiber (MGF) yielded a significant increase in the tensile and tear strength of SBR/SA composite rubber of 37% and 15%, respectively. This enhancement was more pronounced than the improvement observed with unmodified GF, and was attributed to the improved dispersion of fillers and crosslinking density of the SBR matrix. Rheological analysis revealed that the addition of SA and MGF weakened the ω dependence. This was due to the partial relaxation of immobilized rubber chains and limited relaxation of rubber chains adsorbed on the MGF. Furthermore, the strain amplification effect of MGF was stronger than that of GF, leading to a more pronounced reinforcing effect.

Diabetic kidney disease is the most common primary disease of end-stage kidney disease globally; however, a sensitive and accurate biomarker to predict this disease remains awaited. microRNAs are endogenous single-stranded noncoding RNAs that have intervened in different post-transcriptional regulations of various cellular biological functions. Previous literatures have reported its potential role in the pathophysiology of diabetic kidney disease, including regulation of Transforming Growth Factor-ß1-mediated fibrosis, extracellular matrix and cell adhesion proteins, cellular hypertrophy, growth factor, cytokine production, and redox system activation. Urinary microRNAs have emerged as a novel, non-invasive liquid biopsy for disease diagnosis. In this review, we describe the available experimental and clinical evidence of urinary microRNA in the context of diabetic kidney disease and discuss the future application of microRNA in routine practice.

INTRODUCTION: Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is a common and highly effective orthopaedic procedure for treating end-stage knee osteoarthritis. Tranexamic acid (TXA) has become a routine part of perioperative care in TKAs. The best practices regarding the delivery method of TXA in TKA remain controversial. Plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1), thrombin-antithrombin (TAT) complexes and prothrombin fragment F1+2 (F1+2) have been demonstrated to be elevated in patients with venous thromboembolism (VTE). The aim of this trial was to investigate the most efficacious delivery method of TXA (comparison of intravenous and topical applications and comparison of three topical applications) and to evaluate the safety of TXA strategies by investigating the effect of TXA on the plasma D-dimer, PAI-1, TAT and F1+2 levels. METHODS AND DESIGN: This trial is a prospective, randomised, controlled study that will evaluate the efficacy and safety of strategies of TXA. A total of 250 patients undergoing primary TKA will be randomly allocated to five groups for different TXA applications. The primary outcome is total blood loss. The secondary outcomes are blood transfusion rate, drainage volume, plasma D-dimer, PAI-1, TAT and F1+2 levels, maximum haemoglobin drop, wound complications, VTE and length of hospital stay. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION: This study's protocol is in accordance with the declaration of Helsinki. The ethics committee of the General Hospital of Ningxia Medical University approved this study (approval ID: 2020-505). The results of this study will be disseminated in international peer reviewed journals. TRIAL REGISTRATION NUMBER: ChiCTR2000030624.

Embryo loss is a major factor affecting profitability in the pig industry. Embryonic mortality occurs during peri-implantation and mid-late gestation in pigs. Previous investigations have shown that the embryo loss rate in Meishan pigs is significantly lower than in commercial breeds. Most studies have focused on embryonic mortality during early gestation, but little is known about losses during mid-late gestation. In this study, we performed a transcriptome analysis of endometrial tissue in mid-late gestation sows (gestation days 49 and 72) sampled from two breeds (Meishan (MS) and Duroc (DU)) that have different embryo loss rates. We identified 411, 1113, 697, and 327 differentially expressed genes, and 14, 36, 57, and 43 differentially expressed miRNAs in four comparisons (DU49 vs. DU72, DU49 vs. MS49, DU72 vs. MS72, and MS49 vs. MS72), respectively. Subsequently; seven differentially expressed mRNAs and miRNAs were validated using qPCR. Functional analysis suggested the differentially expressed genes and miRNAs target genes mainly involved in regulation of hormone levels, blood vessel development, developmental process involved in reproduction, embryonic placenta development, and the immune system. A network analysis of potential miRNA-gene interactions revealed that differentially expressed miRNAs in Meishan pigs are involved in the response to estradiol and oxygen levels, and affect angiogenesis and blood vessel development. The binding site on ssc-miR-503 for epidermal growth factor (EGF) and the binding site on ssc-miR-671-5p for estrogen receptor α (ESR1) were identified using a dual luciferase assay. The results of this study will enable further exploration of miRNA-mRNA interactions important in pig pregnancy and will help to uncover molecular mechanisms affecting embryonic mortality in pigs during mid-late gestation.

BACKGROUND: Embryonic mortality is a major concern in the commercial swine industry and primarily occurs early in gestation, but also during mid-gestation (~ days 50-70). Previous reports demonstrated that the embryonic loss rate was significant lower in Meishan than in commercial breeds (including Duroc). Most studies have focused on embryonic mortality in early gestation, but little is known about embryonic loss during mid-gestation. RESULTS: In this study, protein expression patterns in endometrial tissue from Meishan and Duroc sows were examined during mid-gestation. A total of 2170 proteins were identified in both breeds. After statistical analysis, 70 and 114 differentially expressed proteins (DEPs) were identified in Meishan and Duroc sows, respectively. Between Meishan and Duroc sows, 114 DEPs were detected at day 49, and 98 DEPs were detected at day 72. Functional enrichment analysis revealed differences in protein expression patterns in the two breeds. Around half of DEPs were more highly expressed in Duroc at day 49 (DUD49), relative to DUD72 and Meishan at day 49 (MSD49). Many DEPs appear to be involved in metabolic process such as arginine metabolism. Our results suggest that the differences in expression affect uterine capacity, endometrial matrix remodeling, and maternal-embryo cross-talk, and may be major factors influencing the differences in embryonic loss between Meishan and Duroc sows during mid-gestation. CONCLUSIONS: Our data showed differential protein expression pattern in endometrium between Meishan and Duroc sows and provides insight into the development process of endometrium. These findings could help us further uncover the molecular mechanism involved in prolificacy.

This study aimed to analyze the influence of H. pylori infection on insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome (MS) by multivariate analysis of a community-based cohort study. From January 2013 to February 2014,811 subjects were enrolled in a community-based cohort study from the northeastern region of Taiwan. All subjects received a demographic survey and blood tests, including an H. pylori antibody test, liver biochemistry tests, lipid profiles, sugar/insulin levels for Homeostatic model assessment (HOMA-IR index), and measurements of adipokines and inflammatory cytokines. A total of 264 men and 547 women were included in this study. The mean age was 59.2 ± 12.7 years. Subjects seropositive for H. pylori antibodies exhibited higher rates of hypertension, an increased incidence of a HOMA-IR index > 2.5 and a higher level of tumor necrosis factor-α than those without H. pylori antibodies. We found a significant difference in the presence of H. pylori antibodies between subjects with MS and those without MS (76.7% vs. 53.7%, p = 0.007) among subjects < 50 y/o. A HOMA-IR index >2.5, H. pylori antibody presence and leptin were predictors for MS in subjects < 50 y/o. The estimated odds ratio of MS for a subject with H. pylori antibodies was 3.717 (95% CI = 1.086-12.719) times that of a subject without H. pylori antibodies. In addition, no difference in H. pylori antibody status was detected for MS prediction in subjects that were ≧ 50 y/o (p = 0.861). In conclusion, subjects with H. pylori antibodies had a higher incidence of a HOMA-IR >2.5 than those without H pylori antibodies. For subjects aged < 50 y/o, the H. pylori antibody was a predictor for MS.
