This study aimed to assess the prevalence of neurological symptoms and related imaging findings in patients with von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) at Rasool Akram Hospital from September 2018 to September 2021. This analytical observational study examined eligible patients over the period from September 2018 to September 2021. We collected demographic information (age, gender) along with imaging findings and results of neurological and eye examinations. Comparison between qualitative variables was also done using the Chi-square test or Fisher's exact test. Also, an independent t-test was used to compare quantitative variables between the two groups. SPSS version 22 software was used for statistical analysis of data. A significant level was considered less than or equal to 0.05. Of the 54 examined patients (48.1% were male and 51.9% were female) with an average age of 36.42 ± 13.37 years. A significant majority (87.0%) reported a positive family history of the disease. The most common type of disease was Type 1 observed in 94.4% of cases and Type 2A was the next most frequent (3.7%). The most common pattern of retinal pathological lesions seen in the examination was related to bilateral lesions (79.6%). The most common pathological finding was related to the presence of a mass in cerebellar magnetic resonance imaging (48.1%). Considering the findings of the present study, which highlight a significant frequency of bilateral retinal lesions as well as masses in the central nervous system and endocrine system, it is evident that patients require careful follow-up and various interventions after being diagnosed with the disease. This approach is essential to manage and potentially mitigate the complications associated with these conditions.

Objectives: The ultrasound examination of the hip joint is performed in the static (Graf) technique in the lateral recumbent position and in the dynamic technique in the supine position. This study compares the two static and dynamic techniques and assesses the role of the patient's position in the examination of DDH. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in 2020-2021 at Akbar Hospital, Mashhad University of Medical Sciences, Iran. 126 patients suspected of having DDH (199 hip) infants were enrolled in the study. All ultrasound examinations were performed with two static and dynamic techniques by a pediatric radiologist. Results: In the static and dynamic ultrasound examinations, the average alpha angle was 51.57 ± 6.41 degrees, and 53.41 ± 6.94 degrees, respectively. These changes were not statistically significant (P = 0.312). The relationship and agreement between instability with dynamic technique and instability with static technique (IIC unstable, D, III, and IV) were investigated. Significant agreement (Kappa=0.77 (95% CI: 0.66-0.87) with excellent clinical significance was obtained between the two ultrasound examination method. Also, in terms of DDH types in the static method with instability types in the dynamic method, a substantial agreement was found between the two examination methods (Kappa =0.67; (95% CI: 0.59-0.75) with good clinical significance. Conclusion: In the ultrasound examination of DDH with static and dynamic techniques, the change in the alpha angle was not statistically significant. Therefore, the hand of the radiologist is open in measuring alpha angles and there is no need to emphasize a specific position. The type of DDH in the static technique completely corresponded to the type of stability or instability in the dynamic technique.

Background: Cancer patients frequently turn to complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) to mitigate the adverse effects of conventional cancer treatments, alleviate stress, manage comorbidities, and address the cancer itself. This systematic review aims to investigate descriptive studies conducted in Iran, focusing on the prevalence and methods of CAM use among cancer patients. Methods: A thorough search of PubMed, Scopus, Google Scholar, Web of Science, Magiran, and the Scientific Information Database (SID) was conducted in both English and Persian from inception to July 2023. Inclusion criteria targeted studies exploring the frequency and patterns of CAM utilization among Iranian patients across diverse cancer types. Results: A total of 604 articles were found in the preliminary search, and 14 were included in this review. Among the 3,990 participants in the included studies, a weighted average of 51.83% (range 4.6%-100%) had used at least one CAM method. The most commonly used CAM methods were prayer (41.8%), medicinal herbs (30.1%), traditional and folk treatments (27.2%), bloodletting (17.3%), and hydrotherapy (13%). Patients reported using CAM for various reasons, including their beliefs, desire to cure the disease, reduce stress, positive past experiences, and improve physical condition. On average, 39% of patients informed their physicians about their CAM use. Conclusion: The findings underscore the relatively prevalent adoption of CAM by Iranian cancer patients. Given the low rate of disclosure to physicians, there is a compelling need for healthcare system vigilance and monitoring to ensure comprehensive patient care.

This study investigates the potential of using bacteriophages to control foodborne pathogen biofilms on stainless steel surfaces in the food industry. Biofilm-forming bacteria can attach to stainless steel surfaces, rendering them difficult to eradicate even after a thorough cleaning and sanitizing procedures. Bacteriophages have been proposed as a possible solution, as they can penetrate biofilms and destroy bacterial cells within, reducing the number of viable bacteria and preventing the growth and spread of biofilms. This systematic review and meta-analysis evaluates the potential of bacteriophages against different biofilm-forming foodborne bacteria, including Cronobacter sakazakii, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas fluorescens, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Listeria monocytogenes. Bacteriophage treatment generally causes a significant average reduction of 38 % in biofilm formation of foodborne pathogens on stainless steel. Subgroup analyses revealed that phages are more efficient in long-duration treatment. Also, applying a cocktail of phages is 1.26-fold more effective than applying individual phages. Phages at concentrations exceeding 107 PFU/ml are significantly more efficacious in eradicating bacteria within a biofilm. The antibacterial phage activity decreases substantially by 3.54-fold when applied at 4 °C compared to temperatures above 25 °C. This analysis suggests that bacteriophages can be a promising solution for controlling biofilms in the food industry.

Nano-carriers are well-known delivery systems to encapsulate different bioactive compounds and extracts. Such nano-systems are used in various food and drug areas to protect active ingredients, increase bioavailability, control the release, and deliver bioactive substances. This study aimed to design and fabricate a stable colloidal nano-delivery system to better preserve the antioxidant properties of pomegranate peel extract (PPE) and protect its sustained release in a gastrointestinal model. To achieve this goal, a nano-phytosomal system was fabricated with plant-based, cost-effective, and food-grade compounds, i.e., phosphatidylcholine (PC) and gamma-oryzanol (GO) for encapsulation of PPE. To fabricate the nano-phytosomes, thin film hydration/sonication method was used. The parameters of particle size, zeta potential, polydispersity index (PDI), loading capacity (LC), and encapsulation efficiency (EE) were investigated to evaluate the efficiency of the produced nano-system. In summary, the size, zeta potential, PDI, LC, and EE of homogenous spherical PC-GO-PPE nano-phytosomes (NPs) in the ratio of 8:2:2 % w/w were achieved as 60.61 ± 0.81 nm, -32.24 ± 0.84 mV, 0.19 ± 0.01, 19.13 ± 0.30 %, and 95.66 ± 1.52 %, respectively. Also, the structure of NPs was approved by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and scanning electron microscope (SEM). The optimized NPs were stable during one month of storage at 4 °C, and changes in the size of particles and PPE retention rate were insignificant (p > 0.05). The nano-encapsulation of PPE significantly decreased the loss of its antioxidant activity during one month of storage at 4 °C. The optimized NPs exhibited prolonged and sustained release of PPE in a gastrointestinal model, so that after 2 h in simulated gastric fluid (SGF) and 4 h in simulated intestinal fluid (SIF), 22.66 ± 2.51 % and 69.33 ± 4.50 % of initially loaded PPE was released, respectively. Optimized NPs had considerable cytotoxicity against the Michigan Cancer Foundation-7 cell line (MCF7) (IC50 = 103 µg/ml), but not against Human Foreskin Fibroblast cell line (HFF-2) (IC50 = 453 µg/ml). In conclusion, spherical PC-GO-PPE NPs were identified as a promising delivery system to efficiently encapsulate PPE, as well as protect and preserve its bioactivity, including antioxidant and cytotoxicity against cancer cell line.

Silymarin (SM) exhibits potential therapeutic effects due to having antioxidant activity. However, the low solubility and bioavailability of SM restrict its biological performance. To overcome this limitation, this study aimed to develop a nanoformulation composed of SM and dimethyltindichloride and investigate the effect of SM-loaded Sn nanoparticles on cancer cell growth and survival. An SM-Sn complex was synthesized and then characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), EDS-MAP, dynamic light scattering (DLS), and ζ-potential analysis. After that, the SW480 colorectal cancer cell line was treated with different concentrations of SM and the SM-Sn complex. Cell viability was examined through the 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazole-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay, analyzing apoptosis, and live-dead assay. The lipid peroxidation rate was assessed through the measurement of thiobarbituric acid (TBA). Intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) level and cell population in the cell cycle were measured using a flow cytometry instrument. To evaluate the colonization ability of SW480 cells, a colony formation assay was performed. Gene expression analysis was also conducted using a real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technique. The findings of this study revealed the effectiveness of the SM-Sn complex in decreasing SW480 cell viability by inducing cell death-associated mechanisms. We found that the SM-Sn complex increases intracellular ROS level and malondialdehyde (MDA) content. It was also revealed that the SM-Sn complex induces cell cycle arrest and the expression of apoptotic genes. In addition, the SM-Sn complex could effectively hinder SW480 cells from constituting colonies. We conclude that the use of tin(IV) as a scaffold for enhanced delivery of SM could be considered an efficient option for inhibiting cancer cell proliferation and survival.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs or miRs) are non-coding, single-stranded, endogenous RNAs that regulate various biological processes, most notably the pathophysiology of many human malignancies. It process is accomplished by binding to 3'-UTR mRNAs and controlling gene expression at the post-transcriptional level. As an oncogene, miRNAs can either accelerate cancer progression or slow it down as a tumor suppressor. MicroRNA-372 (miR-372) has been found to have an abnormal expression in numerous human malignancies, implying that the miRNA plays a role in carcinogenesis. It is both increased and downregulated in various cancers, and it serves as both a tumor suppressor and an oncogene. This study examines the functions of miR-372 as well as the LncRNA/CircRNA-miRNA-mRNA signaling pathways in various malignancies and analyses its potential prognostic, diagnostic, and therapeutic implications.

Targeted delivery of a toxin substance to cancer cells is one of the most recent cancer treatment options. Mistletoe Lectin-1 (ML1) in Viscum album L. is a Ribosome-inactivating proteins with anticancer properties. Therefore, it appears that a recombinant protein with selective permeability can be generated by fusing ML1 protein with Shiga toxin B, which can bind to Gb3 receptor that is abundantly expressed on cancer cells. In this study, we sought to produce and purify a fusion protein containing ML1 fused to STxB and evaluate its cytotoxic activities. The ML1-STxB fusion protein coding sequence was cloned into the pET28a plasmid, then was transformed into E. coli BL21-DE3 cells. Following induction of protein expression, Ni-NTA affinity chromatography was used to purify the protein. Using SDS-PAGE and western blotting, the expression and purification processes were validated. On the SkBr3 cell line, the cytotoxic effects of the recombinant proteins were evaluated. On SDS-PAGE and western blotting membrane, analysis of purified proteins revealed a band of approximately 41 kDa for rML1-STxB. Ultimately, statistical analysis demonstrated that rML1-STxB exerted significant cytotoxic effects on SkBr3 cells at 18.09 and 22.52 ng/L. The production, purification, and encapsulation of rML1-STxB fusion protein with potential cancer cell-specific toxicity were successful. However, additional research must be conducted on the cytotoxic effects of this fusion protein on other malignant cell lines and in vivo cancer models.

Antibiotic-resistant pathogens have become a great universal health concern. Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) are small amphipathic and cationic polypeptides with high therapeutic potential against various microorganisms containing drug-resistant strains. Two major groups of these peptides, which have antibacterial activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, antiviral activity, and even antifungal activity, are defensins and cathelicidins. Hybridization of various AMPs is an appropriate approach to achieving new fusion AMPs with high antibacterial activity but low cellular toxicity. In the current research, the amino-acid sequence of human cathelicidin LL-37 (2-31) and Human beta-defensin (hBD)-129 were combined, and the fusion protein was evaluated by bioinformatics tool. The designed AMP gene sequence was commercially synthesized and cloned in the pET-28a expression vector. The LL-37/hBD-129 fusion protein was expressed in E.coli BL21-gold (DE3). The expression of the recombinant protein was evaluated using the SDS-PAGE method. The LL37/hBD-129 was successfully expressed as a recombinant hybrid AMP in E.coli BL21-gold (DE3) strain. Purification of the expressed AMP was performed by Ni-NTA column affinity chromatography, and the purified AMP was validated using the Western blot technic. Finally, the antimicrobial activity of the fusion AMP against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli bacteria was assessed. Based on the in silico analysis and experimental evaluations, the fusion AMP showed a significant antimicrobial effect on E. coli and Staphylococcus aureus bacteria.

Rice is a widely consumed food worldwide; however, it can be a source of pollutants, such as potentially toxic elements (PTEs), mycotoxins, and pesticides. Sixty rice samples imported from Pakistan (PAK), India (IND), and Thailand (THAI), as well as domestic Iranian (IRN) rice, were collected from Bushehr, Iran, and investigated for the contamination of PTEs, including arsenic (As), lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), and nickel (Ni); pesticides, including chlorpyrifos, trichlorfon, diazinon, fenitrothion, and chlorothalonil; mycotoxins, such as aflatoxin B1 (AFB1), zearalenone (ZEN), ochratoxin A (OTA), and deoxynivalenol (DON); and molds. Estimated daily intake (EDI) and hazard quotient (HQ) of pollutants and hazard index (HI) and incremental lifetime cancer risk (ILCR) of rice types for the Iranian adult population were calculated. The content of PTEs in Iranian rice was not higher than Iran's national standard limits. In contrast, other types of rice (imported) had at least one PTE above the permissible level. OTA content was below the detection limit, and all other mycotoxins were within the allowable range in all rice types. Thai rice was the only group without pesticides. The HI order of rice types was as follows: HIPAK = 2.1 > HIIND = 1.86 > HIIRN = 1.01 > HITHAI = 0.98. As was the biggest contributor to the HI of Iranian and Thai rice, and diazinon in the HI of Pakistani and Indian rice. The calculation of ILCR confirmed that the concentrations of Ni and Pb in Pakistani and Ni and As in Indian, Thai, and Iranian rice were not acceptable in terms of lifetime carcinogenic health risks.

An efficient and selective drug delivery vehicle for cancer cells can remarkably improve therapeutic approaches. In this study, we focused on the synthesis and characterization of magnetic Ni1-xCoxFe2O4 nanoparticles (NPs) coated with two layers of methionine and polyethylene glycol to increase the loading capacity and lower toxicity to serve as an efficient drug carrier. Ni1-xCoxFe2O4@Methionine@PEG NPs were synthesized by a reflux method then characterized by FTIR, XRD, FESEM, TEM, and VSM. Naproxen was used as a model drug and its loading and release in the vehicles were evaluated. The results for loading efficiency showed 1 mg of Ni1-xCoxFe2O4@Methionine@PEG NPs could load 0.51 mg of the naproxen. Interestingly, Ni1-xCoxFe2O4@Methionine@PEG showed a gradual release of the drug, achieving a time-release up to 5 days, and demonstrated that a pH 5 release of the drug was about 20% higher than Ni1-xCoxFe2O4@Methionine NPs, which could enhance the intracellular drug release following endocytosis. At pH 7.4, the release of the drug was slower than Ni1-xCoxFe2O4@Methionine NPs; demonstrating the potential to minimize the adverse effects of anticancer drugs on normal tissues. Moreover, naproxen loaded onto the Ni1-xCoxFe2O4@Methionine@PEG NPs for breast cancer cell lines MDA-MB-231 and MCF-7 showed more significant cell death than the free drug, which was measured by an MTT assay. When comparing both cancer cells, we demonstrated that naproxen loaded onto the Ni1-xCoxFe2O4@Methionine@PEG NPs exhibited greater cell death effects on the MCF-7 cells compared with the MDA-MB-231 cells. The results of the hemolysis test also showed good hemocompatibility. The results indicated that the prepared magnetic nanocarrier could be suitable for controlled anticancer drug delivery.

In the current study, the physicochemical and biological properties of tetracycline-loaded core-shell nanoparticles (Tet/Ni0.5Co0.5Fe2O4/SiO2 and Tet/CoFe2O4/SiO2) were investigated. The antibacterial activity of nanoparticles alone and in combination with tetracycline was investigated against a number of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria for determining minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values. The MIC of Tet/Ni0.5Co0.5Fe2O4/SiO2 nanoparticles turned out to be significantly higher than that of Tet/CoFe2O4/SiO2 nanoparticles. Furthermore, Tet/Ni0.5Co0.5Fe2O4/SiO2 nanoparticles exhibited potent antibiofilm activity against pathogenic bacteria compared to Tet/CoFe2O4/SiO2 nanoparticles. The drug delivery potential of both carriers was assessed in vitro up to 124 h at different pH levels and it was found that the drug release rate was increased in acidic conditions. The cytotoxicity of nanoparticles was evaluated against a skin cancer cell line (melanoma A375) and a normal cell line (HFF). Our findings showed that Tet/Ni0.5Co0.5Fe2O4/SiO2 had greater cytotoxicity than CoFe2O4/SiO2 against the A375 cell line, whereas both synthesized nanoparticles had no significant cytotoxic effects on the normal cell line. Nonetheless, the biocompatibility of nanoparticles was assessed in vivo and the interaction of nanoparticles with the kidney was scrutinized up to 14 days. The overall results of the present study implied that the synthesized multifunctional magnetic nanoparticles with drug delivery potential, anticancer activity, and antibacterial activity are promising for biomedical applications.

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has a devastating impact on global populations triggered by a highly infectious viral sickness, produced by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The third major cause of mortality in the United States, following heart disease and cancer in 2020, was undoubtedly COVID-19. The centers for disease control and prevention (CDC) and the world health organization (WHO) separately developed a categorization system for differentiating new strains of SARS-CoV-2 into variants of concern (VoCs) and variants of interest (VoIs) with the continuing development of various strains SARS-CoV-2. By December 2021, five of the SARS-CoV-2 VoCs were discovered from the onset of the pandemic depending on the latest epidemiologic report by the WHO: Alpha (B.1.1.7), Beta (B.1.351), Gamma (P.1), Delta (B.1.617.2), and Omicron (B.1.1.529). Mutations in the receptor-binding domain (RBD) and n-terminal domain (NTD) have been found throughout all five identified VoCs. All strains other than the delta mutant are often found with the N501Y mutation situated on the RBD, resulting in higher binding between the spike protein and angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) receptors, enhanced viral adhesion, and following the entrance to host cells. The introduction of these new strains of SRAS-CoV-2 is likely to overcome the remarkable achievements gained in restricting this viral disease to the point where it is presented with remarkable vaccine developments against COVID-19 and strong worldwide mass immunization initiatives. Throughout this literature review, the effectiveness of current COVID-19 vaccines for managing and prohibiting SARS-CoV-2 strains is thoroughly described.

BACKGROUND: Fracture healing is one of the important issues in medicine and veterinarian medicine. A new technique should be detected with fewer side effects which improves the speed of the healing. This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of topical ozonated oil on the healing of bone defects created in rat calvarium. METHODS: Defects of 7 mm were induced with a trephine in the calvaria of 45 male Sprague-Dawley rats. The animals were divided into 3 groups, and the defects in each group were filled with ozonated oil, olive oil, or left empty as a control. The animals were euthanized at 3 different time points (14, 28, and 42 days post-operation). Histological and serological (alkaline phosphatase) assessments were carried out on 14, 28, and 42 days post-operation. RESULTS: On 14 and 28 days post-operation, in the edges of the defect, there was a significant difference between the ozonated oil group and olive oil as well as control groups (P ≤ 0.05). However, in the center of the defect, there were no statistically significant differences between the 3 groups (P > 0.05). On day 42, in the edges and center of the defect, there was a significant difference between the ozonated oil group and olive oil as well as control groups statistically (P ≤ 0.05). CONCLUSION: The results of this study indicate the potential efficacy of ozonated oil as a bone substitute in a rat calvarial defect model.

In this study, we applied a direct condensation between 3-acetyl-4-hydroxy-2H-chromen-2-one and different amines (anilines and benzyl amines) in order to synthesize some coumarin-based imines/enamines (3a-o) as cytotoxic agents. All the compounds were characterized by means of FT-IR, NMR, mass spectroscopy and elemental analyses. Since the title compounds can exist as different forms including (s-cis)-imine and (s-trans)-imine or (E and Z)-enamines, their conformational and geometrical aspects were investigated computationally by DFT method. The optimized geometry parameters, ΔE, ΔG, ΔH, Mulliken atomic charge, HOMO and LUMO energy, and NBO analysis suggested that these compounds can exist predominantly in (E)-enamine form. All the synthesized compounds (3a-o) were evaluated in vitro for their cytotoxic activities against cancer cell lines (MCF-7 and A549) and normal cell line (BEAS-2B) using the MTT assay. The 4-hydroxybenzyl derivative 3k was found to be the most potent cytotoxic agent with no selectivity, similar to doxorubicin. However, the 4-chlorobenzyl analog 3o could be considered as an equipotent compound respect to doxorubicin with higher selectivity.

RESUMO

The principal intention of this study is presenting the attempts carried out for extracting, separating, and determining of the pesticide and insecticide residues existing in food and plant samples. In this regard, a set of content, including the explanations about the supercritical fluid extraction (SFE), supercritical fluid chromatography, and various types of pesticides are indicated. Besides, the parameters affecting the pesticides extraction composed of temperature, pressure, modifier, drying agent, and so on are discussed. Also, examples of insecticides extraction by SFE technique as an important subset of pesticides are indicated. Along with these items, some interesting works, concerning the innovations implemented in the field of SFE of pesticide and insecticide residues from foodstuff and plants are depicted.

Nine coordination complexes and polymer (M/L/X) based on Co, Ni, Zn, Cu (M), pyridine-N-oxide-2,5-dicarboxylic acid (H2pydco) (L) and either isonicotinamide (Ina), piperazine (pipz), 2,2'-bipyridine (bipy) and 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) (X) were synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses, infrared spectroscopy and single crystal X-ray diffraction. The resulting empirical formulae of the prepared complexes are [Co(H2O)6][Co(pydco)2(H2O)2]·2H2O (1), [M(pydco)(H2O)4]2 [M = Co (2), Ni (3), Zn (4)], [Co(pydco)(bipy)(H2O)2]·4H2O (5), [Co(pydco)(phen)(H2O)2]·5.135(H2O)·0.18(EtOH) (6), [Cu(Hpydco)(bipy)Cl]·2H2O (7), [Cu(Hpydco)(bipy)Cl]2·2H2O (8), and {[AgCu(H2O)2(phen)(pydco)]NO3} n (9). With the exception of 9, which forms an extended structure via multiple coordination modes, all the complexes contain (H)pydco as a bidentate ligand coordinated to the metal ion via the N-oxide and the adjacent carboxylate group oxygen atom, creating a chelate ring. The metal centers exhibit either distorted octahedral (1-6) or square pyramidal (7-9) geometry. Our results demonstrate that, when acting cooperatively, non-covalent interactions such as X-H⋯O hydrogen bonds (X = O, N, C), C-O⋯π and π⋯π stacking represent driving forces for the selection of different three-dimensional structures. Moreover, in compounds 2-4, 1D supramolecular chains are formed where O⋯π-hole interactions are established, which unexpectedly involve the non-coordinated carboxylate group. The non-covalent interaction (NCI) plot index analysis reveals the existence of the O⋯π-hole interactions that have been evaluated using DFT calculations. The Cremer and Pople ring puckering parameters are also investigated. The complexation reactions of these molecules with M were investigated by solution studies. The stoichiometry of the most abundant species in the solution was very close to the corresponding crystals. Finally, the effect of N-oxidation on the geometry of complexes has been also studied using the Cambridge Structural Database. It shows that complexes containing N-oxidized H2pydc are very rare.

Today, diagnosis, vaccination, and treatment of tuberculosis (TB) remain major clinical challenges. Therefore, an introduction of new diagnostic measures and biomarkers is necessary to improve infection control. The ideal biomarker for TB infection can be defined as a host or pathogen-derived biomolecule, which is potent for identifying infection and determining its clinical stage. Exosomes, defined as cell-derived nanovesicles released into biological fluids, are involved in cell-cell communication and immune modulation. These vesicles have emerged as a new platform for improving the clinical diagnosis and prognosis of different infectious diseases and cancers. The role of these nanovehicles, as alternative biomarkers for the improvement of TB diagnosis and treatment, has been demonstrated in a significant body of literature. In this review, we summarized recent progress in the clinical application of exosome-based biomarkers in TB infection.

RESUMO

Gossipyboma is a mass which is made around a cotton sponge or abdominal compress retained in a patient during surgery accidentally. Patients manifest with either acute or chronic symptoms due to complications. Here in wereported an 89-year-old man case of transvesical migration of gossipyboma who presented with gross hematuria with a history of transvesical prostatectomy 6 years ago. Patient underwent exploratory laparotomy with repairing of the bladder and peritoneum. He had no complications during surgery and was subsequently discharged.
