RESUMO

Metal organic cages (MOCs), as an emerging discrete supramolecular compounds, have received widespread attention in separation, biomedicine, gas capture, catalysis, and molecular recognition due to their porosity, adjustability and stability. Herein, we present a new chiral MOC FeII4L4 coated capillary column prepared for gas chromatographic (GC) separation of different types of organic compounds, including n-alkanes, n-alcohols, alkylbenzenes, isomers, especially for racemic compounds. There are 20 different kinds of racemates (e.g., alcohols, ethers, epoxides, esters, alkenes, and aldehydes) were well resolved on the FeII4L4 chiral column and a maximum resolution value for 1-phenyl-1-propanol reaches 6.17. The FeII4L4 coated column exhibited high column efficiency (3100 plates m-1 for n-dodecane) and good enantiomeric resolution complementary to that of a commercial ß-DEX 120 column and the previously reported chiral MOC [Fe4L6] (ClO4)8 coated column. The relative standard deviation (RSDs) of the peak area and retention time of glycidol and nitrotoluene were below 1.2 %. This study reveals that chiral MOCs have good application prospects in chromatographic separation.

RESUMO

Metallacycles are a novel class of supramolecular materials with circular structures, internal cavities, and abundant host-guest chemical properties that have exhibited good application prospects in many fields. However, to the best of our knowledge, no research on the use of metallacycles as stationary phases for gas chromatographic (GC) separations has been published yet. In this work, we report for the first time the use of a homochiral metallacycle, [ZnCl2L]2, as a stationary phase for GC separations. [ZnCl2L]2 was synthesized by reaction of (S)-(1-isonicotinoylpyrrolidin-2-yl)methyl-isonicotinate (L) with ZnCl2 via coordination-driven self-assembly. The [ZnCl2L]2-coated column displayed an excellent separation performance not only of organic isomers but also of racemic compounds. Sixteen racemates (including alcohols, esters, amino acid derivatives, ethers, organic acids, and epoxides) and 21 isomeric compounds (including positional, structural, and cis/trans-isomers) were well separated on the [ZnCl2L]2-coated column. Impressively, some racemates were resolved with high resolution values (Rs), including 1,2-butanediol diacetate (Rs = 25.86), ethyl 3-hydroxybutyrate (Rs = 20.97), 1,3-butanediol diacetate (Rs = 18.09), and threonine derivative (Rs = 18.61). Compared with the commercial ß-DEX 120 column for separation of the tested racemates, the [ZnCl2L]2-coated column exhibited good enantioseparation complementarity, enabling separation of some racemates that could not be separated, or were not well resolved, by the ß-DEX 120 column. In addition, many organic mixtures, such as n-alkanes, alkylbenzenes, n-alcohols, and a Grob test mixture, were also well separated on the [ZnCl2L]2-coated column. The column also has good reproducibility and thermal stability on separation. This work not only reveals the great potential of metallacycles for GC separations but also opens up a new application of metallacycles in separation science.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: NLR family CARD domain containing 5 (NLRC5) could promote major histocompatibility complex class I (MHC-I)-dependent CD8+ T cell-mediated anticancer immunity. In this study, the immunosurveillance role and underlying mechanisms of NLRC5 in endometrial cancer (EC) were characterized. METHODS: CD8+ T cells were separated from healthy women's peripheral blood by using magnetic beads. The effect of NLRC5 and interferon-ß (IFN-ß) on immunosurveillance of EC were examined through a mouse tumor model and a CD8+ T cell-EC cell coculture system after NLRC5 overexpression and IFN-ß overexpression or depletion. The effect of NLRC5 on IFN-ß expression was examined with gain- and loss-of-function experiments. RESULTS: NLRC5 overexpression in the EC cell and CD8+ T cell coculture system inhibited EC cell proliferation and migration and promoted EC cell apoptosis and CD8+ T cell proliferation. In vivo, NLRC5 overexpression increased the proportion of CD8+ T cells and inhibited EC progression. Furthermore, IFN-ß overexpression in the EC cell and CD8+ T cell coculture system activated CD8+ T cell proliferation; however, genetic depletion of IFN-ß exerted the opposite effects. In addition, NLRC5 could negatively regulate IFN-ß expression in EC cells. Mechanistically, NLRC5 potentiated the antitumor responses of CD8+ T cells to EC by activating IFN-ß. CONCLUSIONS: Taken together, our findings demonstrated that NLRC5 potentiates anti-tumor CD8+ T cells responses by activating interferon-ß in EC, suggesting that genetically escalated NLRC5 and IFN-ß may act as potential candidates for the clinical translation of adjuvant immunotherapies to patients with EC.

RESUMO

Endometriosis is closely associated with ectopic focal inflammation and immunosuppressive microenvironment. Multiple types of pattern recognition receptors (PRRs) are present in the innate immune system, which are able to detect pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs) and danger-associated molecular patterns (DAMPs) in both intracellular and external environments. However, the exact role of PRRs in endometriosis and the underlying molecular mechanism are unclear. PRRs are necessary for the innate immune system to identify and destroy invasive foreign infectious agents. Mammals mainly have two types of microbial recognition systems. The first one consists of the membrane-bound receptors, such as toll-like receptors (TLRs), which recognize extracellular microorganisms and activate intracellular signals to stimulate immune responses. The second one consists of the intracellular PRRs, including nod-like receptors (NLRs) and antiviral proteins retinoic acid-inducible gene I (RIG-I) and melanoma differentiation-associated gene 5 (MDA-5) with helix enzyme domain. In this review, we mainly focus on the key role of PRRs in the pathological processes associated with endometriosis. PRRs recognize PAMPs and can distinguish pathogenic microorganisms from self, triggering receptor ligand reaction followed by the stimulation of host immune response. Activated immune response promotes the transmission of microbial infection signals to the cells. As endometriosis is characterized by dysregulated inflammation and immune response, PRRs may potentially be involved in the activation of endometriosis-associated inflammation and immune disorders. Toll-like receptor 2 (TLR2), toll-like receptor 3 (TLR3), toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4), nod-like receptor family caspase activation and recruitment domain (CARD) domain containing 5 (NLRC5), nod-like receptor family pyrin domain containing 3 (NLRP3), and c-type lectin receptors (CLRs) play essential roles in endometriosis development by regulating immune and inflammatory responses. Absent in melanoma 2 (AIM2)-like receptors (ALRs) and retinoic acid-inducible gene I-like receptors (RLRs) may be involved in the activation of endometriosis-associated immune and inflammation disorders. PRRs, especially TLRs, may serve as potential therapeutic targets for alleviating pain in endometriosis patients. PRRs and their ligands interact with the innate immune system to enhance inflammation in the stromal cells during endometriosis. Thus, targeting PRRs and their new synthetic ligands may provide new therapeutic options for treating endometriosis.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: N6-methyladenosine (m6A) methylation is the most abundant chemical posttranscriptional modification of mRNA, and it is associated with the regulation of the immune response to tumors. However, the function of m6A modification in the immune response to endometrial cancer (EC) remains unknown. Our study investigated the immunological role of methyltransferase-like 3 (METTL3) in EC and the underlying molecular mechanism. METHODS: We investigated the correlation between the expression of METTL3 and CD8 by using an endometrial tissue microarray cohort. Next, we investigated the role and mechanism of METTL3 in the immune response to EC using a mouse tumor model and a CD8+ T cell-EC cell coculture system after METTL3 overexpression or depletion. Additionally, RNA immunoprecipitation (RIP), methylated RIP, and RNA stability experiments were used to investigate the mechanism underlying the function of METTL3 in immunosurveillance of EC. RESULTS: METTL3 levels were downregulated in EC patients, low levels of METTL3 were correlated with poor prognosis in EC patients. There was a positive correlation between METTL3 expression and CD8 expression. Overexpression of METTL3 in the EC cell and CD8+ T cell coculture system inhibited EC cell proliferation, migration, and promoted CD8+ T-cell proliferation, and in vivo, METTL3 overexpression increased CD8+ T cell proportions and inhibited EC progression; however, genetic depletion of METTL3 exerted the opposite effects. NLR family CARD domain-containing 5 (NLRC5) was identified as a target of METTL3-mediated m6A modification. The degradation of NLRC5 was increased by YTH domain-containing family 2 (YTHDF2). CONCLUSIONS: Overall, METTL3, YTHDF2, and NLRC5 have potential to be the diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers for EC. METTL3 facilitated the m6A modifications of NLRC5 and inhibited its degradation through a YTHDF2-dependent mechanism in EC. Genetic overexpression of METTL3 attenuated the immune evasion of EC by promoting NLRC5-mediated immunosurveillance, suggesting that the METTL3/YTHDF2/NLRC5 axis is a promising target of immunotherapy in EC.

RESUMO

Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most common endocrinological disorders affecting between 6 to 20% of reproductive aged women. However, the etiology of PCOS is still unclear. Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) plays a critical role in the growth and development of ovarian follicles. In our previous study, we showed that the expression level of EGFR was significantly higher in the cumulus granulosa cells from women with PCOS than that of normal women, suggesting that EGFR may play a potential role in the pathogenesis of PCOS. The present study further evaluated the association between EGFR and PCOS through both in clinical observation and animal experiments. We firstly validated the differential expression of EGFR in cumulus granulosa cells between PCOS patients and normal subjects by qRT-PCR and immunofluorescence staining. Then we generated a mouse model (n=20) of PCOS by injecting dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA). The PCOS mice were then injected with an E corpus GFR inhibitor (AG1478) (n=10), which significantly improved the sex hormone levels in the estrous cycle stage, and the serum levels of LH, FSH and testosterone were compared with the PCOS mice without EGFR inhibitor treatment (n=10). Decreasing the expression level of EGFR in the PCOS mice also improved the ovulatory function of their ovaries which was indicated by the multifarious follicle stage in these mice as compared with the PCOS mice without EGFR inhibitor treatment. Also, the number of corpopa lutea were higher in the control group and the EGFR inhibitor treated group than in the PCOS group. The sex hormone levels and reproductive function were not significantly different between the control mice and the PCOS mice treated with the EGFR inhibitor. Our results demonstrated that EGF/EGFR signaling affected the proliferation of cumulus granulosa cells, oocyte maturation and meiosis, and played a potential role in the pathogenesis of PCOS. Therefore, the selective inhibition of EGFR may serve as a novel strategy for the clinical management of PCOS.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Performing subtrochanteric osteotomy with cemented components in patients with Crowe IV developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) is technically challenging and not widely reported. This study aimed to evaluate the mid-term outcomes of cemented stem total hip arthroplasty (THA) with subtrochanteric femoral shortening and transverse derotational osteotomy in patients with Crowe IV DDH. METHODS: Data collected from patients with Crowe IV DDH who underwent cemented stem THA with subtrochanteric femoral shortening and transverse derotational osteotomy between 2010 and 2018 were retrospectively evaluated. The cemented Lubinus SP II femoral component and the cementless CombiCup acetabular component were used together in all cases. These data, including Harris hip scores, limb length discrepancy (LLD), severity of limp, Trendelenburg test, bone union, length of the resected femur, limb lengthening, level of the osteotomy site, and length bridging the osteotomy site, as well as complications, were analyzed. A paired Student t-test was used to analyze continuous variables, categorical data were compared using Fisher's exact probability test, and correlation analysis was performed using Spearman's rank correlation coefficient. RESULTS: Among 14 included patients (10 females and four males), the mean age was 60.4 years (range, 47-73). The mean follow-up period was 49.1 months, and no patient was lost to follow-up. The mean Harris hip score improved from 40.7 to 87.7. The mean LLD decreased from 52 to 12.7 mm. The mean length of the excised femoral segment was 38.4 mm, and the mean length of limb lengthening was 27.1 mm. The mean distance between the osteotomy site and the lesser trochanter was 21.1 mm after surgery. The mean length of the femoral stem bridging the osteotomy site was 97.6 mm. Finally, the mean osteotomy union time was 10.6 months. No statistically significant correlation was found between the osteotomy union time and these factors. No neurological deficits were noted. Delayed union was observed in one patient, and postoperative dislocation was observed in two patients. Cement leakage into the osteotomy gap was observed in one patient, however, no revisions were required, and no signs of loosening or migration were observed. CONCLUSIONS: Cemented stem THA combined with subtrochanteric femoral shortening and transverse derotational osteotomy is safe and effective in treating patients with Crowe IV DDH. Rather than leading to nonunion, cement leakage may negatively affect bone healing.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: China has experienced a continuous decreasing trend in the incidence of hepatitis A in recent years. Temporal trend analyses are helpful in exploring the reasons for the changing trend. Thus, this study aims to analyse the incidence trend of viral hepatitis A by region and age group in mainland China from 2004 to 2017 to evaluate the effectiveness of prevention and control measures. METHODS: Data on hepatitis A and population information were collected and analysed with a joinpoint regression model. Annual percentage changes (APCs) and average annual percentage changes (AAPCs) were estimated for the whole country and for each region and age group. RESULTS: From 2004 to 2017, the seasonality and periodicity of hepatitis A case numbers were obvious before 2008 but gradually diminished from 2008 to 2011 and disappeared from 2012-2017. The national incidence of hepatitis A (AAPC = - 12.1%) and the incidence rates for regions and age groups showed decreasing trends, with differences in the joinpoints and segments. Regarding regions, the hepatitis A incidence in the western region was always the highest among all regions, while a nonsignificant rebound was observed in the northeastern region from 2011 to 2017 (APC = 14.2%). Regarding age groups, the hepatitis A incidence showed the fastest decrease among children (AAPC = - 15.3%) and the slowest decrease among elderly individuals (AAPC = - 6.6%). Among all segments, the hepatitis A incidence among children had the largest APC value in 2007-2017, at - 20.4%. CONCLUSION: The national annual incidence of hepatitis A continually declined from 2004 to 2017 and the gaps in hepatitis A incidence rates across different regions and age groups were greatly narrowed. Comprehensive hepatitis A prevention and control strategies, including the use of routine vaccination during childhood in mainland China, especially the implementation of the national Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) in 2008, resulted in substantial progress from 2004 to 2017. However, gaps remain. Regular monitoring and analysis of hepatitis A epidemic data and prompt adjustment of hepatitis A prevention and control strategies focusing on children, elderly individuals and those living in certain regions are recommended.

RESUMO

Metal-organic cages (MOCs), as a promising class of crystalline porous materials with well-defined cavities, have attracted wide attention due to their multifarious potential applications in gas storage, host-guest chemistry, molecular recognition, separation, catalysis, sensing, and drug delivery and so on. Herein, we report that a chiral MOC [Fe4L6](ClO4)8 coated capillary column was fabricated for high-resolution gas chromatographic separation of various analytes, including n-alkanes, n-alcohols, positional isomers, aromatic hydrocarbon mixture, especially for racemic compounds. A series of racemic compounds such as alcohols, epoxides, aldehydes, ketones, ethers, esters, alkenes, sulfoxides and amino acid derivatives could be well separated on the [Fe4L6](ClO4)8 coated capillary column with high enantioselectivity and good reproducibility. Comparing the chiral resolution ability of the MOC [Fe4L6](ClO4)8 coated column with the commercial ß-DEX 120 column and the porous organic cage (POC) CC10 coated column, the chiral MOC column can be complementary to the two different types of columns. The results show that the chiral MOC [Fe4L6](ClO4)8 exhibited excellent separation performance toward a wide range of organic compounds, which will be very attractive as a new chiral separation media and has potential application prospects in separation science.

RESUMO

Aims: The NOD-like receptor (NLR) family, caspase recruitment (CARD) domain containing 5 (NLRC5) was dysregulated in endometrial cancer (EC). However, the potential regulatory mechanisms of NLRC5 in EC remained unclear. We aimed to explore whether NLRC5 could regulate the programmed cell death protein ligand 1 (PD-L1) in EC. We also investigated the related molecular which led to the inactivation of NLRC5 in EC. Methods: The expressions of NLRC5 and PD-L1 in endometrium tissue microarray were detected by immunohistochemistry. Pearson's correlation analysis was performed to detect the expression correlation between NLRC5 and PD-L1. Immunofluorescence staining, western blotting, and quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) were used to detect the role of NLRC5 in PD-L1 in EC cell lines. The somatic mutation in EC patients was detected by whole-exome sequencing (WGS). Results: NLRC5 was downregulated in the endometrium of EC patients when compared to those in the normal endometrium. The level of PD-L1 in the endometrium of EC patients was higher when compared to those in the normal endometrium. There was a negative expression correlation between NLRC5 and PD-L1. NLRC5 could promote the expression of PD-L1 in EC cell lines. The mutations of ANKRD20A2, C2orf42, ADGRB3, AVPR2, GOLGA6C, and IPPK may lead to the downregulation of NLRC5 in EC patients. Conclusion: NLRC5 could inhibit the activation of PD-L1 in EC. Mutations of ANKRD20A2, C2orf42, ADGRB3, AVPR2, GOLGA6C, and IPPK may lead to the downregulation of NLRC5 in EC patients. Future study should investigate the mechanism of NLRC5 in PD-L1, as well as the mechanism of ANKRD20A2, C2orf42, ADGRB3, AVPR2, GOLGA6C, and IPPK in NLRC5.

RESUMO

There is currently no effective analytical method in colorectal image analysis, which leads to certain errors in colorectal image analysis. In order to improve the accuracy of colorectal imaging detection, this study used a genetic algorithm as the data mining algorithm and combined it with image processing technology to perform image analysis. At the same time, combined with the actual requirements of image detection, the gray theory model is used as the basic theory of image processing, and the image detection prediction model is constructed to predict the data. In addition, in order to study the effectiveness of the algorithm, the experiment is carried out to analyze the validity of the data of the study, and the predicted value is compared with the actual value. The research shows that the proposed algorithm has certain accuracy and can provide theoretical reference for subsequent related research.

RESUMO

Phosphorylation of MAP4 (p-MAP4) causes cardiac remodeling, with the cardiac microvascular endothelium being considered a vital mediator of this process. In the current study, we investigated the mechanism underlying p-MAP4 influences on cardiac microvascular density. We firstly confirmed elevated MAP4 phosphorylation in the myocardium of MAP4 knock-in (KI) mice. When compared with the corresponding control group, we detected the decreased expression of CD31, CD34, VEGFA, VEGFR2, ANG2, and TIE2 in the myocardium of MAP4 KI mice, accompanied by a reduced plasma concentration of VEGF. Moreover, we observed apoptosis and mitochondrial disruption in the cardiac microvascular endothelium of MAP4 KI animals. Consistently, we noted a decreased cardiac microvascular density, measured by CD31 and lectin staining, in MAP4 KI mice. To explore the underlying mechanism, we targeted the NLRP3-related pyroptosis and found increased expression of the corresponding proteins, including NLRP3, ASC, mature IL-1ß, IL-18, and GSDMD-N in the myocardium of MAP4 KI mice. Furthermore, we utilized a MAP4 (Glu) adenovirus to mimic cellular p-MAP4. After incubating HUVECs with MAP4 (Glu) adenovirus, the angiogenic ability was inhibited, and NLRP3-related pyroptosis were significantly activated. Moreover, both cytotoxicity and PI signal were upregulated by the MAP4 (Glu) adenovirus. Finally, NLRP3 inflammasome blockage alleviated the inhibited angiogenic ability induced by MAP4 (Glu) adenovirus. These results demonstrated that p-MAP4 reduced cardiac microvascular density by activating NLRP3-related pyroptosis in both young and aged mice. We thus managed to provide clues explaining MAP4 phosphorylation-induced cardiac remodeling and enriched current knowledge regarding the role of MAP4.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: When reconstructing a hip with developmental dysplasia and high dislocation, sub-trochanteric shortening osteotomy is typically needed for placing the acetabular component in the appropriate anatomical position. However, the procedure can result in complications such as non-union of the osteotomy. We evaluated the contact area and the coincidence rate between the proximal and distal fragments at different femoral osteotomy levels and lengths. We then determined the optimal location of subtrochanteric femoral shortening transverse osteotomy in patients with unilateral Crowe type IV developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH). The consistency between the proximal and distal segments was assessed as a possible predictive indicator of the union at the osteotomy site. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed 57 patients with unilateral Crowe type IV DDH who underwent X-ray imaging of both hip joints. We labelled the inner and outer diameters of the circular ring as N (mm) and M (mm), respectively. We defined the overlapped area between the proximal and distal ring as contact area S (mm2), and the ratio of contact area to distal ring area as coincidence rate R. RESULTS: N varied from 9.8-15.2 mm and M varied from 20.7-24 mm, both demonstrated a decreasing trend in the proximal to distal direction. At osteotomy lengths ranging from 0.5-2 cm, there were no differences in S between the different levels of osteotomy in each group. At osteotomy lengths ≤2.5 cm, a significant higher coincidence rate was noted from 2 cm below the lesser trochanter to other positions below the level. At osteotomy lengths from 3 to 5.5 cm, a significantly higher coincidence rate was observed from the level of 1.5 cm below the lesser trochanter to other positions below the level. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings suggest that femoral shortening transverse osteotomy at the optimal subtrochanteric level can predictably increase the contact area and coincidence rate, which may contribute to the union at the osteotomy site. Considering the stability of the prostheses, it appears appropriate that osteotomy location should be shifted slightly distally. TRIAL REGISTRATION: Retrospectively registered.

RESUMO

A hydroxyl-functionalized homochiral porous organic cage (POC) was synthesized and characterized by FTIR, NMR, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), MALDI-TOF-MS, and elemental analysis. The synthesized homochiral POC was used as stationary phase to prepare a capillary gas chromatography (GC) column by a static coating method. The fabricated column shows excellent selectivity not only for the separation of positional isomers but also for the resolution of various racemates. Thirty-nine racemates have been resolved on the column, including alcohols, diols, halohydrocarbons, epoxides, esters, lactones, ketones, ethers, and organic acids. Compared to the commercial ß-DEX 120 column and previously reported chiral POCs (CC3-R, CC9, and CC10)-coated columns, there are 11, 10, 24, and 15 tested racemates that cannot be resolved on ß-DEX 120 column, CC3-R column, CC9 column, and CC10 column, respectively. This reveals that the fabricated column has prominent complementarity or superior separation performance to these columns in enantioseparation. Besides, the fabricated column can achieve some enantioseparations which are not possible using all previously reported chiral POC-based columns. Some positional isomers (xylenes, dichlorobenzenes, dibromobenzenes, nitrochlorobenzenes, and nitrobromobenzenes) were also separated with high-resolution values. The column exhibits good repeatability, reproducibility, and stability. The relative standard deviation (RSD) values of retention times were 0.03-0.18%, 0.11-0.92%, and 2.1-6.6% for run-to-run (n = 5), day-to-day (n = 5), and column-to-column (n = 3), respectively. The experimental results demonstrate the great potential of POCs for practical application in GC. Graphical Abstract A hydroxyl-functionalized homochiral porous organic cage was used as stationary phase for gas chromatography separation of racemates and positional isomers. The resolution of racemates mainly depended on hydrogen bonding, π-interaction, host-guest inclusion, steric fit, etc., while separation of positional isomers by shape-selective guest binding.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Arthroscopic surgery procedures vary depending on the types of meniscus tear, including meniscectomy and meniscus repair. Among the several types of meniscus tear, the horizontal tear of the lateral meniscus at the popliteal hiatus region is a common injury, and its surgical treatment is still inconsistent. METHODS: Between January 2018 and October 2018, 20 patients who underwent all-inside repair with suture hook for the horizontal tear of the lateral meniscus at the popliteal hiatus region were recruited. Any operative complication was recorded, and postoperative MRI scans were conducted at the 6 months. The clinical results were graded based on the scale of the Lysholm knee score preoperatively and at follow-up. RESULTS: No operative complications were recorded. Postoperative MRIs at the 6 months showed that there was no re-tear for all patients, though signal intensity remained high in T2-weighted MRI in the lateral meniscus for nine cases. The average preoperative Lysholm knee score was 58.6 ± 10.1, which increased significantly to 89.3 ± 7.8 (t = - 11.01, p = 0.001) at the last follow-up. Recurrence or aggravation of symptoms was not noted at the final follow-up. CONCLUSION: All-inside repair with suture hook may be a good option for the horizontal tear of the lateral meniscus at the popliteal hiatus region which preserves the meniscus; avoids iatrogenic injury on the adjacent popliteal tendon, common peroneal nerve, and inferior lateral geniculate artery.

RESUMO

Rotational malalignment between the femoral and tibial components in total knee arthroplasty (TKA) can affect clinical outcomes, but there is no consensus on how to best determine tibia tray orientation. The posterolateral corner-locked (PLCL) technique may be a new method. This study aims to assess the applicability of this technique in a Chinese population. Forty normal Chinese volunteers were recruited and underwent computed tomography (CT) of the lower limbs. Knee model reconstructions and simulated standard tibial osteotomy were conducted digitally. The transepicondylar axis (TEA), the Akagi line, and the line connecting the medial third of the tibial tubercle with the midpoint of the posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) were projected to the tibial cross-section and marked. The PLCL technique was applied using either symmetrical or asymmetrical tibial tray templates, and the anteroposterior (AP) axis of the tibial tray was marked. The angles between the TEA and these lines were calculated, and the statistical differences were analyzed. The angle between the TEA and the Akagi line and between the TEA and the line connecting the medial third of the tibial tubercle with the midpoint of the PCL were 96.90 ± 5.57 and 107.31 ± 5.95 degrees, respectively. The angles between the TEA and the AP axis of the symmetrical and the asymmetrical design tibial trays were 94.01 ± 4.21 and 96.65 ± 4.70 degrees, respectively. Except for the Akagi line and AP axis of the asymmetrical tibial tray, statistical differences were found between all lines (p < 0.05). The PLCL technique is principally suitable for Chinese patients requiring TKA when using the tibial component referred to in this study, although it may result in slight external rotation.

RESUMO

The resolution of chiral compounds into optically pure enantiomers is very important in various fields, such as pharmaceutical, chemical, agricultural, and food industries. Chiral gas chromatography (GC) is one of the efficient methods for enantioseparations of volatile compounds. In recent years, porous materials as stationary phases for chromatographic separations have achieved increasing attention. Porous organic cages (POCs) represent an emerging class of porous materials, which are assembled by discrete organic molecules with shape-persistent and permanent cavities through weak intermolecular forces. This chapter describes several chiral POCs as chiral stationary phases for GC enantioseparations of racemic compounds.

RESUMO

Metal-organic cages (MOCs) as a new type of porous material with well-defined cavities were extensively pursued because of their relative ease of synthesis and their potential applications in host-guest chemistry, molecular recognition, separation, catalysis, gas storage, and drug delivery. Here, we first reported that a homochiral MOC [Zn3L2] is explored to fabricate [Zn3L2] coated capillary column for high-resolution gas chromatographic separation of a wide range of analytes, including n-alkanes, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, and positional isomers, especially for racemates. Various kinds of racemates such as alcohols, diols, epoxides, ethers, halohydrocarbons, and esters were separated with good enantioselectivity and reproducibility on the [Zn3L2] coated capillary column. The fabricated [Zn3L2] coated capillary column exhibited significant chiral recognition complementary to that of a commercial ß-DEX 120 column and our recently reported homochiral porous organic cage CC3-R coated column. The results show that the homochiral MOCs will be very attractive as a new type of chiral selector in separation science.

RESUMO

A highly ordered chiral mesoporous silica-coated capillary column has been used for high-resolution gas chromatographic separations. The column has excellent selectivity, not only for the separation of isomers, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, linear alkanes, long chain alkanes, Grob's test mixture and aromatic hydrocarbons, but also for the resolution of different classes of chiral compounds. Additionally, the column exhibits high column efficiency, excellent temperature resistance, and analysis times are short. This is the first report of a highly ordered chiral inorganic mesoporous silica used in separation science.
