RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Breast imaging plays a crucial role in the early detection and management of breast cancer, with visual quality, modality innovation and diagnostic performance being key factors in achieving accurate diagnoses and optimal patient outcomes. This paper presents a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of the literature on the three above elements focusing on breast imaging, aiming to uncover publication trends, identify influential works and authors, and highlight future research directions. METHODS: We employed a methodical bibliometric approach, making use of Scopus and Web of Science (WoS) databases for gathering literatures. We planned our search strategy, concentrating on terms linked to "breast imaging," "image quality," and "diagnostic accuracy" to ensure a systematic examination of the subject. The enhanced search functions in these databases enabled us to narrow down and improve our findings, choosing only the articles, conference papers, and book sections that are most relevant. After conducting a thorough screening process to remove duplicates and evaluate significance, we utilized ScientoPy and VOSviewer software for an in-depth bibliometric analysis. This helped to explore trends in publications, patterns of citations, and thematic groups, giving us a better understanding of how the field has changed and where it currently stands. Our approach prioritized assessing methodological quality and bias in the studies we included, guaranteeing the reliability of our findings. RESULTS: We reviewed 2984 relevant publications, revealing a consistent annual growth rate of 2.8% in breast imaging research, with the United States and Europe leading in contributions. The study found that advancements in radiological technologies and international collaboration are driving forces behind the field's expansion. Key subject areas such as 'Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, and Medical Imaging' dominated, underscoring their impact on diagnostic quality. Notable authors and institutions have been identified for their influential research, characterized by high citation metrics and significant scholarly impact. CONCLUSION: The study shows a continuous increase in research on breast imaging, considered by new technologies and teamwork defining the present time. The assessment highlights a key move towards utilizing digital imaging methods and computational analysis, affecting the improvement of future diagnostic procedures and patients' results. The study highlights the importance of continued international collaborations to tackle the new barriers in breast imaging and make the most of technological progress. IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE: This study shows a focus on using interdisciplinary methods and cutting-edge technology in breast imaging to help healthcare professionals improve their performance and accuracy in diagnosis. Recognizing vital research and emerging trends should guide clinical guidelines, radiology training, and patient care plans to encourage the use of effective techniques and stimulate innovation in diagnostic approaches.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Diagnosing perioperative anaphylaxis (POA) is often challenging. Although a guideline recommends measuring tryptase rather than histamine, there is little evidence for this. We aimed to examine the diagnostic performance and appropriate timing of tryptase and histamine measurements for diagnosing anaphylaxis, and the association between Hypersensitivity Clinical Scoring Scheme (HCSS) scores and elevated biomarkers. METHODS: We measured tryptase and histamine levels thrice: 30 min, 2 h, and at least 24 h after an anaphylactic event for patients with suspected anaphylaxis, and at the induction of general anesthesia and 30 min and 2 h after the start of surgery for control patients without a reaction. Absolute values and the magnitude and rate of change from baseline were evaluated. We determined the thresholds of tryptase and histamine levels with the best diagnostic performance and compared their performance. RESULTS: Forty-five patients with perioperative anaphylaxis were included in this study. The control group included 30 patients with uneventful general anesthesia and 12 patients with a suspected but unconfirmed diagnosis of perioperative anaphylaxis. Comparison at the same measurement timings showed that tryptase generally had better diagnostic performance than histamine. Both showed better diagnostic performance when assessed using multiple measurements rather than a single measurement. The best diagnostic performance was seen with the percentage change in the higher tryptase value, whether measured at 30 min or 2 h after anaphylaxis onset, as compared to baseline. However, neither tryptase nor histamine levels correlated with HCSS scores. CONCLUSIONS: Overall, tryptase showed better diagnostic performance than histamine. When multiple tryptase measurements are possible, parameters calculated using two acute phase measurements and the baseline level have better diagnostic performance.

RESUMO

A two-step treatment  of mahua oil was conducted to synthesize mahua biodiesel using heterogeneous biomass-based catalyst derived from mahua shell. Mahua oil having higher free fatty acid (FFA) content (about 19%) was esterified to reduce the FFA content up to 1%. The esterification process was carried out using 200 mL mahua oil, 5:1 molar ratio (methanol:oil), and 2.25 weight% of H2SO4 at a temperature of 60 °C for 3 h. Post esterification, a set of 16 experiments were created using a Box-Behnken design (BBD)-based response surface methodology (RSM) approach to conduct the transesterification of the esterified oil. Molar ratio, catalyst loading, reaction temperature, and reaction time were the four input variables chosen for the design of experiments. The optimized conditions for maximum biodiesel yield (87.7%) were found to be 14.88 molar ratio, 3.578% catalyst loading, 69.7 °C reaction temperature, and 81.9 min reaction time. The Diesel RK engine simulation tool which was experimentally validated for baseline diesel fuel was used for numerical simulation of mahua biodiesel. The performance, combustion, and emission behavior of mahua biodiesel analyzed using numerical simulation presented the sustainability of mahua biodiesel as an alternate fuel.

RESUMO

Based on the specific binding of drug molecules to cell membrane receptors, a screening and separation method for active compounds of natural products was established by combining phospholipase C (PLC) sensitized hollow fiber microscreening by a solvent seal with high-performance liquid chromatography technology. In the process, the factors affecting the screening were optimized. Under the optimal screening conditions, we screened honokiol (HK), magnolol (MG), negative control drug carbamazepine, and positive control drug amentoflavone, the repeatability of the method was tested. The PLC activity was determined before and after the screening. Experimental results showed that the sensitization factors of PLC of HK and MG were 61.0 and 48.5, respectively, and amentoflavone was 15.0, carbamazepine could not bind to PLC. Moreover, the molecular docking results were consistent with this measurement, indicating that HK and MG could be combined with PLC, and they were potential interacting components with PLC. This method used organic solvent to seal the PLC greatly ensuring the activity, so this method had the advantage of integrating separation, and purification with screening, it not only exhibited good reproducibility and high sensitivity but was also suitable for screening the active components in natural products by various targets in vitro.

RESUMO

Introduction: Substantial previous studies have reported that fulvic acid (FA) application plays an important role in Chinese agricultural production. However, little is known about the mechanisms for using FA to increase apple trees resistance to Cd toxicity. In order to clarify the mechanism underlying FA alleviation in Cd-induced growth inhibition in apple seedlings. Methods: Herein, we treated M9T337 seedlings to either 0 or 30 µM/L Cd together with 0 or 0.2 g/L FA and analyzed the root growth, antioxidant enzyme activities, carbon (C) assimilation, nitrogen (N) metabolism, and C and N transport. Results: The results presented that, compared with CK (without Cd addition or FA spraying application), Cd poisoning significantly inhibited the root growth of apple seedlings. However, this Cd-induced root growth inhibition was significantly alleviated by FA spraying relative to the Cd treatment (Cd addition alone). On the one hand, the mitigation of inhibition effects was due to the reduced oxidative damage by enhancing antioxdiant enzyme (SOD, POD, and CAT) activities in leaves and roots. On the other hand, this growth advantage demonstrated compared to the Cd treatment was found to be associated with the strengthen of photosynthetic performance and the elevation of C and N metabolism enzymes activities. Meanwhile, we also found that under Cd stress condition, the distribution of C and N nutrients in apple seedlings was optimised by FA spraying application relative to the Cd treatment, according to the results of 13C and 15N tracing. Conclusion: Conclusively, our results suggested that the inhibitory effect of Cd on apple seedlings root growth was alleviated by FA through regulating antioxdiant capacities and C and N metabolism.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To assess the prognostic performance of the 2023 International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) endometrial cancer staging schema. METHODS: This retrospective cohort study queried the Commission-on-Cancer's National Cancer Database. Study population was 129,146 patients with stage I-IV endometrial cancer per the 2009 FIGO staging schema. Stage-shifting and overall survival (OS) were assessed according to the 2023 FIGO staging schema. RESULTS: Upstage (IA → II, 21.4 %; IB → II, 53.0 %) and downstage (IIIA→IA3, 22.2 %) occurred in both early and advanced diseases. Inter-stage prognostic performance improved in the 2023 schema with widened 5-year OS rate difference between the earliest and highest stages (68.2 % to 76.9 %). Stage IA1-IIB and IIC had distinct 5-year OS rate differences (85.8-96.1 % vs 75.4 %). The 5-year OS rate of the 2009 stage IIIA disease was 63.9 %; this was greater segregated in the 2023 schema: 88.0 %, 62.4 %, and 55.7 % for IIIA→IA3, IIIA1, and IIIA2, respectively (inter-substage rate-difference, 32.3 %). This 5-year OS rate of stage IA3 disease was comparable to the 2023 stage IB-IIB diseases (88.0 % vs 85.8-89.5 %). In the 2023 stage IIIC schema (micrometastasis rates: 29.6 % in IIIC1 and 15.6 % in IIIC2), micrometastasis and macrometastasis had the distinct 3-year OS rates in both pelvic (IIIC1-i vs IIIC1-ii, 84.9 % vs 71.1 %; rate-difference 13.8 %) and para-aortic (IIIC2-i vs IIIC2-ii, 82.9 % vs 65.2 %; rate-difference 17.7 %) nodal metastasis cases. The 5-year OS rate of the 2009 stage IVB disease was 23.4 %; this was segregated to 25.4 % for stage IVB and 19.2 % for stage IVC in the 2023 staging schema (rate-difference, 6.2 %). CONCLUSION: The 2023 FIGO endometrial cancer staging schema is a major revision from the 2009 FIGO schema. Almost doubled enriched sub-stages based on detailed anatomical metastatic site and incorporation of histological information enable more robust prognostication.

RESUMO

Sarcopenia has been associated with adverse health outcomes, including cognitive dysfunction. However, its specific interrelationship with neurocognitive disorders such as mild cognitive impairment (MCI), Alzheimer's disease (AD) or other types of dementia has not been thoroughly explored. This meta-analysis aims to summarize the existing evidence on this interrelationship. This systematic review was pre-registered on PROSPERO (CRD42022366309) and reported according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses 2020 guidelines. Databases, including PubMed, Embase, CINAHL, Scopus, Web of Science, PEDro, SPORTDiscus and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, and the data registry ClinicalTrials.gov were searched from inception to 8 June 2023. Observational studies (cross-sectional and cohort) and interventional studies reporting on the association and prevalence of sarcopenia in MCI, AD or other types of dementia in adults ≥50 years were included. For the meta-analysis, pooled odds ratios (OR) with 95% confidence intervals (CI) were calculated for the association of sarcopenia with the neurocognitive disorders using random-effects/fixed-effects models. Subgroup analyses were performed to identify potential sources of heterogeneity. A total of 77 studies consisting of 92 058 subjects were finally included in the qualitative analysis (71 cross-sectional, 4 cohort and 2 interventional studies). Studies were heterogeneous, using different diagnostic criteria to define both sarcopenia and cognitive status. The majority of studies (n = 38) included Asian community-dwelling older adults. Most studies investigated the association of sarcopenia with AD (33/77) and MCI (32/77). For studies focusing on other forms of dementia, two studies included Lewy body dementia and one study included Parkinson's dementia, whereas the remaining studies did not specify dementia aetiology (n = 21). Three cohort studies explored the association between sarcopenia and incident MCI, whereas only one cohort study explored the association between dementia and incident sarcopenia. Two interventional studies investigated whether an exercise programme could prevent the progression of sarcopenia in older adults with dementia or AD. The information for the meta-analysis was extracted from 26 studies. Sarcopenia was significantly associated with MCI (pooled OR = 1.58, 95% CI 1.42-1.76) (n = 14), AD (pooled OR = 2.97, 95% CI 2.15-4.08) (n = 3) and non-AD dementia (pooled OR = 1.68, 95% CI 1.09-2.58) (n = 9). The significance and magnitude of the associations differed in subgroup analyses by study design, population, definition of sarcopenia or used tool to measure cognitive status. This meta-analysis showed that sarcopenia is significantly associated with MCI, AD and other types of dementia. These findings suggest the importance of early screening and prevention of sarcopenia in older people with cognitive dysfunction, although further longitudinal research is needed to clarify the causal relationship.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Describe the clinical profile of revision cochlear implantation (RCI) cases involving device manufacturer conversion (RCImc+), compare them to cases without manufacturer conversion (RCImc-), and classify the reasons for manufacturer conversion (MC). STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective case review. SETTING: Tertiary academic center. METHODS: Data on demographics, RCI indications, medical background, surgical details, and the reasons for MC were collected for all RCIs from 1989 to 2020. Post-RCI speech perception performance was categorized as unchanged, improved, or declined, according to clinically based criteria. RESULTS: Of 185 RCIs, 39 (21%) involved MC, mostly in pediatric patients (67%). The leading RCImc+ indications were device-related (59%) and medical (31%) failures. Initial implant manufacturers were Advanced Bionics (49%), Cochlear (25.5%), or Medel (25.5%). Most MC reasons were patient-driven (64%) versus CI team recommendations (36%). The RCImc+ group demonstrated a 3-fold higher rate of medical indications than RCImc- (31% vs 11.5%, P = .007). The time interval from symptom onset to RCI was longer in RCImc+ (43 vs 20.3 months, P = .001), and the rate of multiple revisions in the same ear was higher (25.6% vs 8.2%, P = .009). Complete reinsertion rates were high in both RCImc+ and RCImc- (94.8% vs 94.5%, P = 1) without any complications. Speech perception improved or remained unchanged in most (84%) cases, with no significant difference between the groups (P = .183). CONCLUSION: This retrospective study showed that RCI involving MC is safe and beneficial. Although RCImc+ patients exhibited distinct clinical characteristics, MC did not impact surgical or speech perception outcomes. This provides evidence-based data to support informed decision-making by CI teams and patients.

RESUMO

Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is a disabling inflammatory disease that makes walking and activities of daily living difficult. This condition can reduce functional capacity and increase the risk for surgery. OBJECTIVE: To know the functional capacity of patients with KOA evaluated by the six-minute walk test (6MWT). METHOD: This cross-sectional study evaluated age, gender, weight, BMI, pain (VAS 90-100), physical disability (WOMAC 0-96), degree of joint damage by radiographic imaging, and 6MWT. RESULTS: A total of 176 patients referred by Orthopedics were evaluated, with the inclusion of 164 participants. The mean age was 61.89 ± 10.62 years, 81% women, 67% with cardiovascular disease, hypertension and/or diabetes, 81% obese, with moderate pain (VAS 47.74 ± 29.27) and according to WOMAC, most had severe or very severe disability. The distance covered in the 6MWT was 354.03 ± 102.03m, 67% of the predicted distance. The maximum heart rate achieved was 107.27 ± 17.71 bpm, which characterizes 68% of the predicted by age. Only 12% of the sample showed a marked drop in oxygenation in the 6MWT and 40% had a recovery heart rate in the 1st minute below 15 bpm. CONCLUSION: Patients with KOA, who were evaluated by the 6MWT, have low functional capacity and physical deconditioning. Level of Clinical Evidence III, Case Control Study.

RESUMO

Objectives: To target health communication at less health-conscious groups, evidence on health behaviours' effects on non-health-related outcomes - such as academic performance - is necessary. Recent research has highlighted the associations of various health behaviours on academic performance of university students. However, there is a lack of research investigating the most predominant health behaviours simultaneously and their association with academic performance, as well as the factors that potentially influence the direction or strength of these associations. Therefore, this study investigated (I) which of the predominant health behaviours (physical activity, healthy diet, sleep, sedentary behaviour, alcohol consumption, smoking, drug use) are most associated with academic performance and (II) whether the personal resource of trait mindfulness moderates these associations. Methods: An online survey was conducted amongst university students during the 2021 summer semester. Group differences in academic performance regarding health behaviours were analysed using ANOVA (N = 1,049). A first linear regression model (N = 571), considering all selected health behaviours simultaneously, assessed their association with academic performance. A second model (N = 540) assessed interaction effects of health behaviours and trait mindfulness. Separate regressions assessed each interaction's association with academic performance. Results: Sleep, fruit and vegetable consumption, and gender were significantly associated with academic performance. The second model showed no significant interaction effects. Conclusion: Targeting sleep and fruit and vegetable consumption might be the most promising strategies for elevating students' academic performance, thereby enabling health communication strategies to reach groups driven by performance improvements rather than health benefits.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: The aim in this study was to investigate the diet and nutritional knowledge of elite Korean wrestlers and verify the differences in their exercise performance , muscle damage indicators, and antioxidant enzyme levels according to wrestler level. METHODS: A 7-day dietary and nutrition knowledge survey was administered to 30 adult male elite wrestlers (national team: n=11; professional team: n=19). The Wingate test was conducted for 60 seconds to analyze muscle damage indicators and antioxidant levels. Blood and blood lactate concentration analyses were performed four times; the statistical significance level of all data was p<0.05. RESULTS: Significant differences were found in general nutrition knowledge questionnaire (GNKQ) scores (p=0.043), diet (p=0.001), anaerobic performance (p=0.001), muscle damage indicators (p=0.026), antioxidant levels, and blood lactic acid concentrations (30 min after exercise, p=0.007; 90 min after exercise, p=0.038) between the national and the professional groups. CONCLUSION: To the findings confirm the relationship between the differences in diet, nutrition, and motor function for wrestlers of different expertise levels. In a follow-up, a comprehensive study on nutrition knowledge, athlete training , and weight loss is needed that considers a wider scope of subjects and analyzes additional variables.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: OSA is a known medical condition that is associated with several comorbidities and affect patients' quality of life. The association between OSA and lung cancer remains debated. Some studies reported increased prevalence of OSA in patients with lung cancer. We aimed to assess predictors of moderate-to-severe OSA in patients with lung cancer. METHODS: We enrolled 153 adult patients who were newly diagnosed with lung cancer. Cardiorespiratory monitoring was performed using home sleep apnea device. We carried out Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis on multiple parameters including age, gender, smoking status, neck circumference, waist circumference, BMI, stage and histopathology of lung cancer, presence of superior vena cava obstruction, and performance status to find out the factors that are independently associated with a diagnosis of moderate-to-severe OSA. RESULTS: Our results suggest that poor performance status is the most significant predictor of moderate to severe OSA in patients with lung cancer after controlling for important confounders. CONCLUSION: Performance status is a predictor of moderate to severe OSA in patients with lung cancer in our population of middle eastern ethnicity.

RESUMO

This work combined the stability of the porous structure of metal-organic frameworks with the strong reducibility of nano zero-valent iron, for the controllable integration of NZVI into MOFs to utilize the advantages of each component with enhancing the rapid decontamination and scavenging of Cr(VI) from wastewater. Hence, four kinds of MOFs/NZVI composites namely ZIF67/NZVI, MOF74/NZVI, MIL101(Fe)/NZVI, CuBTC/NZVI, were prepared for Cr(VI) capture. The results indicated that the stable structure of ZIF67, MOF74, MIL101(Fe), CuBTC, was beneficial for the dispersion of NZVI that could help more close contact between MOFs/NZVI reactive sites and Cr(VI), subsequently, MOFs/NZVI was proved to be better scavengers for Cr(VI) scavenging than NZVI alone. The Cr(VI) capture achieved the maximum adsorption capacity at pH ~ 4.0, which might be due to the participation of more H+ in the reaction and better corrosion of NZVI at lower pH. Mechanism investigation demonstrated synergy of adsorption, reduction and surface precipitation resulted in enhanced Cr(VI) scavenging, and Fe(0), dissolved and surface-bound Fe(II) were the primary reducing species. The findings of this investigation indicated that the as-prepared composites of ZIF67/NZVI, MOF74/NZVI, MIL101(Fe)/NZVI, CuBTC/NZVI, with high oxidation resistance and excellent reactivity, could provide reference for the decontamination and purification of actual Cr(VI)-containing wastewater.

RESUMO

The purpose of this study was to examine the role of psychosocial factors in the discordance between perceived and observed physical disability in patients with osteoarthritis of the hip or knee joint. This was a cross-sectional study of patients seen for consideration of joint arthroplasty surgery. Patients completed a psychosocial outcome measure, a patient self-reported functional scale, and two performance-based tests. Data of 121 patients, mean age, 67 (8), 81 (67%) females were used for analysis. The fear avoidance and positive affect domains had the strongest association with the discordance between the self-report and both performance outcome measures. Age, gender, and severity of osteoarthritis were associated with discordance in relation to walking. Fear avoidance beliefs and positive affect play important roles in perception of pain and function. Age, gender, and severity of arthritis should be taken into consideration for a more holistic approach to arthritis care.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: A tibial fracture is an uncommon, yet severe injury that occurs in professional athletes within all major sports leagues. These injuries are often debilitating for professional athletes and can require extensive rehabilitation prior to returning to play. The purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of a tibial fracture on athletic performance in all four major United States sports leagues. METHODS: A publicly available professional sports database, Pro Sports Transactions, was queried for tibial injuries from January 01, 2015, to May 31, 2023. The search included all four major U.S. sports leagues. To quantify and compare athletic ability before and after injury, performance-based statistics were collected from standardized player ratings in periods surrounding the date of injury. The percent change in player performance was measured and stratified. The Pearson correlation test was used to analyze player demographics. RESULTS: There were a total of 24 professional athletes who suffered 28 confirmed tibial fractures across all leagues. Upon return, there was a 14.7% decrease in overall player performance across all leagues. National Basketball Association, National Football League, and National Hockey League athletes had a decrease of 34.5%, 29.1%, and 14.2%, respectively, following their return to play. Major League Baseball players demonstrated an 8.1% increase in player performance following their recovery from tibial fracture. CONCLUSION: Players who suffer tibial fractures often undergo immediate surgery and, in unfortunate cases, may require multiple subsequent procedures. Additionally, athletes spend several months recovering prior to their return. Upon return, athletes' performance may be decreased; however, further study is required to strengthen the association between player performance and tibial fracture recovery.

RESUMO

The treatment of Giant Cell Tumor (GCT) in the distal radius poses challenges due to the intricate anatomical features of the bone. It often necessitates the use of long implant plates or the interconnection of multiple short plates after tumor excision. However, the deployment of metal plates may increase the risk of screw loosening and various complications. To address these challenges, this study proposes the adoption of carbon fiber-reinforced PEEK (CFRP) as the base material. As a unique strategy, performance parameters (PP) were developed to compare CFRP implant plates with a Ti-6Al-4V plate using the Finite-element Method. The focus was on four elements: the screw axial force, bone growth, callus formation, and bone resorption. The investigation into the screw axial force involved analyzing the internal force of the screw. The remaining parameters were evaluated using the stress, strain, or elastic energy induced in the bones. The findings showed that the second screw endured the largest screw axial force, measuring 10.16 N under a 90-degree 10-N loading at the translocated bone. The model without a callus exerted a significantly greater force on the screw than the model with a callus, leading to screw loosening in the early stage of treatment. The maximum PP, reached 1.62, was achieved with an angle-ply [456/-456] laminate, featuring a weighting fraction of 0.7 for bone growth and 0.1 for the other parameters. This study provides a generalized methodology for assessing the performances of CFRP implants and offers guidelines for future development in composite implant plate technology.

RESUMO

Skin cancer can be detected through visual screening and skin analysis based on the biopsy and pathological state of the human body. The survival rate of cancer patients is low, and millions of people are diagnosed annually. By determining the different comparative analyses, the skin malignancy classification is evaluated. Using the Isomap with the vision transformer, we analyze the high-dimensional images with dimensionality reduction. Skin cancer can present with severe cases and life-threatening symptoms. Overall performance evaluation and classification tend to improve the accuracy of the high-dimensional skin lesion dataset when completed. In deep learning methodologies, the distinct phases of skin malignancy classification are determined by its accuracy, specificity, F1 recall, and sensitivity while implementing the classification methodology. A nonlinear dimensionality reduction technique called Isomap preserves the data's underlying nonlinear relationships intact. This is essential for the categorization of skin malignancies, as the features that separate malignant from benign skin lesions may not be linearly separable. Isomap decreases the data's complexity while maintaining its essential characteristics, making it simpler to analyze and explain the findings. High-dimensional datasets for skin lesions have been evaluated and classified more effectively when evaluated and classified using Isomap with the vision transformer.

RESUMO

Incorporating green tea powder (GTP) into wheat flour-based noodles can significantly improve nutritional value. So, this study investigated the effects of GTP (0%, 0.5%, 1%, 1.5%, and 2.0%) on the quality properties of dried green tea noodles (DGTN) and cooking-induced changes to phenolic compounds. Mixolab analysis of wheat flour with GTP showed more water absorption of dough, and the developed dough had a firmer structure. GTP markedly increased the toughness of the noodle sheet. DGTN fortified with GTP showed more stable textural properties during cooking and storage, representing higher hardness and tensile strength. The viscosity and thermal properties of DGTN showed that GTP affected the gelatinization and retrogradation behavior of starch, which were closely related to the textural properties. Overall, DGTN prepared with 1.5% GTP showed better quality properties. However, ultra-performance liquid chromatography-time (UPLC/Q-TOF-mass spectrometry [MS]/MS) analysis showed that cooking by boiling significantly decreased phenolic content in 1.5% DGTN; further analysis revealed that the thermal degradation is a key factor in the loss of polyphenols. Therefore, further studies are necessary to focus on the mechanism of cooking-induced polyphenol loss, which is of great significance for improving the nutritional value of cooked DGTN.

RESUMO

Objective: To compare image quality and diagnostic performance using different b-values for the zooming technique with diffusion-weighted imaging (ZOOMit-DWI) in thyroid nodules. Materials and methods: A total of 51 benign thyroid nodules and 50 thyroid papillary carcinomas were included. ZOOMit-DWI was performed with b-values of 0, 500, 1000, 1500 and 2000 s/mm2. The sharpness was evaluated as subjective index. The signal intensity ratio (SIR), signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) were measured as objective indices. Pairwise comparisons were performed among the different b-value groups using the Friedman test. A receiver operating characteristic curve of the ADC value was used to evaluate diagnostic performance. The DeLong test was used to compare diagnostic effectiveness among the different b-value groups. Results: In both the papillary carcinoma group (P = 0.670) and the benign nodule group (P = 0.185), the sharpness of nodules was similar between b-values of 1000 s/mm2and 1500 s/mm2. In the papillary carcinoma group, the SIRnodule was statistically higher in DWI images with a b-value of 1500 s/mm2than in DWI images with b-values of 500 s/mm2(P = 0.004), 1000 s/mm2(P = 0.002), and 2000 s/mm2(P = 0.003). When the b-values were 1500 s/mm2(P = 0.008) and 2000 s/mm2(P = 0.009), the SIRnodule significantly differed between the papillary carcinoma group and the benign nodule group. When b = 500 s/mm2, the ADC had an AUC of 0.888. When b = 1000 s/mm2, the ADC had an AUC of 0.881. When b = 1500 s/mm2, the ADC had an AUC of 0.896. When b = 2000 s/mm2, the ADC had an AUC of 0.871. The DeLong test showed comparable diagnostic effectiveness among the different b-value groups except for between b-values of 2000 s/mm2and 1500 s/mm2, with a b-value of 2000 s/mm2showing lower effectiveness. Conclusion: This study suggests that 1500 s/mm2may be a suitable b-value to differentiate benign and malignant thyroid nodules in ZOOMit-DWI images, which yielded better image quality.

RESUMO

Biomathematical models of fatigue capture the physiology of sleep/wake regulation and circadian rhythmicity to predict changes in neurobehavioral functioning over time. We used a biomathematical model of fatigue linked to the adenosinergic neuromodulator/receptor system in the brain as a framework to predict sleep inertia, that is, the transient neurobehavioral impairment experienced immediately after awakening. Based on evidence of an adenosinergic basis for sleep inertia, we expanded the biomathematical model with novel differential equations to predict the propensity for sleep inertia during sleep and its manifestation after awakening. Using datasets from large laboratory studies of sleep loss and circadian misalignment, we calibrated the model by fitting just two new parameters and then validated the model's predictions against independent data. The expanded model was found to predict the magnitude and time course of sleep inertia with generally high accuracy. Analysis of the model's dynamics revealed a bifurcation in the predicted manifestation of sleep inertia in sustained sleep restriction paradigms, which reflects the observed escalation of the magnitude of sleep inertia in scenarios with sleep restriction to less than ∼ 4 h per day. Another emergent property of the model involves a rapid increase in the predicted propensity for sleep inertia in the early part of sleep followed by a gradual decline in the later part of the sleep period, which matches what would be expected based on the adenosinergic regulation of non-rapid eye movement (NREM) sleep and its known influence on sleep inertia. These dynamic behaviors provide confidence in the validity of our approach and underscore the predictive potential of the model. The expanded model provides a useful tool for predicting sleep inertia and managing impairment in 24/7 settings where people may need to perform critical tasks immediately after awakening, such as on-demand operations in safety and security, emergency response, and health care.
