Oral health is a vital indicator of well-being that is influenced by various habits and lifestyles of individuals. Oral diseases are the bottleneck in the effective control of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) due to chronic in nature and reciprocal relationship as sharing the common risk factors and habits such as sugar, tobacco, and alcohol consumption that increase the risk of developing various inevitable diseases. However, there is a lack of literature highlighting the relationship between risk factors for oral diseases and general health among individuals. This cross-sectional study was carried out among 500 study participants aged 20 to 64 years who gave written informed consent and were recruited by Multistage Stratified Cluster Sampling technique among workers in five bone factories, working for at least one year since January 2001 to March 2022 in Sambhal city, Uttar Pradesh. WHO-Basic Oral Health Survey-1997 was used to record the data regarding sociodemographic and oral health status variables. We used the modified WHO-STEPWISE pre-structured questionnaire to record tobacco consumption habits and oral health-seeking behavior. We scheduled a clinical intra-oral examination to record the Decayed Missing Filled Teeth (DMFT) index and the interview on the premises of five bone factories. Among the 500 bone-factory workers, the total number of males was 342 (68.40%) and 158 (31.60%) were females. The mean age (Standard Deviation) was 33.18 (10), and the mean DMFT score of factory workers was 2.84 (3.12). Production workers had the highest mean DMFT score of 4.60 (3.25). More than half of the factory workers (53.2%) were tobacco users. Tobacco users were 3.52 times more likely to have a severe DMFT index. Most common pre-cancerous lesions were oral submucous fibrosis and leukoplakia. Compared to non-tobacco users, mild tobacco users have 6.80 folds higher odds of oral lesions. Tobacco consumption is not only harmful for oral health but also leads to several non-communicable and systemic diseases. NCDs and dental caries are chronic and preventable conditions with a bidirectional relationship implicated by modifiable major risk factors such as tobacco consumption. Decreasing the consumption of tobacco use may improve oral health and reduce the risk of the development of NCDs. Also, regular dental visits should be scheduled to monitor the oral health status of factory workers. Additionally, tailored intervention for tobacco cessation should be implicated to maintain the general and oral health of industrial workers.

OBJECTIVES: This study, drawing on the pathway mediation model developed by Street and his colleagues (2009) that links communication to health outcomes, explores how patient-centered communication affects cancer information avoidance. METHODS: Data was gathered through online access panel surveys, utilizing stratified sampling across Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands, and Austria. The final sample included 4910 non-cancer and 414 cancer patients, all receiving healthcare from clinicians within the past year. RESULTS: The results demonstrated that patient-centered communication is directly associated with reduced cancer information avoidance, especially among cancer patients. Additionally, this association is indirectly mediated through patient trust and healthcare literacy. CONCLUSION: The findings provide empirical evidence that reveals the underlying mechanism linking clinician-patient communication to patient health information behavior. PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS: The potential of clinician-patient communication in addressing health information avoidance is highlighted by these findings. Future interventions in healthcare settings should consider adopting patient-centered communication strategies. Additionally, improving patient trust and literacy levels could be effective in reducing cancer information avoidance.

OBJECTIVES: To examine the effectiveness of a media literacy-based smoking prevention program based on Ajzen's theory of planned behavior in female adolescents. METHODS: This quasi-experimental study was conducted with female high school students aged 16-17 years in Seoul, Republic of Korea. The program provided eight sessions over 4 weeks. Quantitative data were collected before and after online surveys in an intervention (n = 21) and control (n = 21) groups, and analyzed using mixed analysis of variance. Qualitative data on participation experiences was collected by requesting the participants to answer open-ended questions once a week during the intervention and performing co-occurrence analysis of specific terms in the responses was conducted through text mining. RESULTS: Although the program decreased smoking intention and increased smoking media literacy in the intervention group, there were no significant differences between the groups. Qualitative results obtained from the intervention group showed cognitive and behavioral changes in the perception of the harmfulness of e-cigarettes in the media and the expression of a willingness to overcome the temptation to smoke. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings show that the enhancement of smoking media literacy, specifically by correcting misconceptions regarding e-cigarettes promoted by the new media, contributes smoking prevention in female adolescents. It supports calls for an expanded role of public health professionals in health education at the school level.

BACKGROUND: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a health challenge and the second most common cancer worldwide. Increasing colorectal cancer literacy (CRCL) is one of the most effective factors in CRC prevention. AIM: The aim of this study was to determine and evaluate CRCL and its related factors in Torbat Heydarieh, northeastern Iran. METHODS AND RESULTS: This study was a cross-sectional survey conducted in 2021 in Torbat Heydarieh, a city in northeastern Iran, on 200 clients presenting to a comprehensive health service centers. In addition to collecting sociodemographic characteristics, participants were administered the Knowledge and Attitude Questionnaire and the Colorectal Cancer Literacy Questionnaire (CRCLQ). Data were analyzed with SPSS software version 25 using independent samples t-tests, one-way analysis, chi-square, and Pearson correlation coefficients. The statistical significance level was set at p < .05. The results showed that the mean age of the participants was 51.12 ± 8.45 years. The majority of participants (84%) stated that their friends and relatives had no history of CRC. Pearson correlation coefficient results showed a significant correlation between knowledge and attitude toward CRC (r = .15, p = .041). A significant correlation was also found between knowledge and CRCL (r = .4, p ≤ .001). CONCLUSION: We found low CRCL among clients of comprehensive health service centers. More targeted educational interventions are needed to promote CRCL among Iranian adults.

BACKGROUND: The rapid evolution of genetic technologies and utilization of genetic information for clinical decision-making has necessitated increased surgeon participation in genetic counselling, testing, and appropriate referral of patients for genetic services, without formal training in genetics. We performed a scoping review to describe surgeons' knowledge, perceptions, attitudes, and barriers pertaining to genetic literacy in the management of patients who had confirmed cancer or who were potentially genetically at risk. METHODS: We conducted a scoping review in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses Extension for Scoping Reviews checklist. We performed a comprehensive literature search, and 2 reviewers independently screened studies for inclusion. These studies included surgeons involved in the care of patients with confirmed gastrointestinal, breast, and endocrine and neuroendocrine cancers, or patients who were potentially genetically at risk for these cancers. RESULTS: We analyzed 17 studies, all of which used survey or interview-based formats. Many surgeons engaged in genetic counselling, testing, and referral, but reported low confidence and comfort in doing so. Knowledge assessments showed lower confidence in identifying genetic inheritance patterns and hereditary cancer syndromes, but awareness was higher among surgeons with greater clinical volume or subspecialty training in oncology. Surgeons felt responsible for facilitating these services and explicitly requested educational support in genetics. Barriers to genetic literacy were identified and catalogued at patient, surgeon, and system levels. CONCLUSION: Surgeons frequently engage in genetics-related tasks despite a lack of formal genetics training, and often report low knowledge, comfort, and confidence in providing such services. We have identified several barriers to genetic literacy that can be used to develop interventions to enhance genetic literacy among surgeons.

PURPOSE: Addressing obstacles such as logistical complexities, social stigma, and the impact of historical traumas is essential for the successful inclusion of underrepresented groups in health research. METHODS: This article reviews engagement and interview techniques used to ethically engage recently settled Afghan refugees in Oklahoma and rural Mexican-born women in Illinois in research. The paper concludes with a reflective discussion on the challenges and lessons learned. RESULTS: Creative strategies to engage hard-to-reach populations in research included considering the participants' socioeconomic and cultural contexts in their interactions and developing community partnerships to establish trust and obtain reliable data. Other engagement strategies were communicating in the participants' preferred language, providing assistance with reading and responding to study questions for those with low literacy, employing research staff from the population of interest, and recruiting in specific locations where the populations of interest live. CONCLUSIONS: Community engagement is essential at all stages of research for building trust in hard-to-reach populations, achieving inclusivity in health research, and ensuring that interventions are culturally sensitive and effective.

This study aimed to explore digital literacy among community-dwelling older adults in urban South Korea. A semistructured interview guide was developed using the Digital Competence ( 2.0 framework, which emphasizes the competencies for full digital participation in five categories: information and data literacy, communication and collaboration, content creation, safety, and problem-solving. The data were analyzed using combined inductive and deductive content analysis. Inductive analysis identified three main categories: perceived ability to use digital technology, responses to digital technology, and contextual factors. In the results of deductive analysis, participants reported varying abilities in using digital technologies for information and data literacy, communication or collaboration, and problem-solving. However, their abilities were limited in handling the safety or security of digital technology and lacked in creating digital content. Responses to digital technology contain subcategories of perception (positive or negative) and behavior (trying or avoidance). Regarding contextual factors, aging-related physical and cognitive changes were identified as barriers to digital literacy. The influence of families or peers was viewed as both a facilitator and a barrier. Our participants recognized the importance of using digital devices to keep up with the trend of digitalization, but their digital literacy was mostly limited to relatively simple levels.

BACKGROUND: Being digitally literate allows health-based science students to access reliable, up-to-date information efficiently and expands the capacity for continuous learning. Digital literacy facilitates effective communication and collaboration among other healthcare providers. It helps to navigate the ethical implications of using digital technologies and aids the use of digital tools in managing healthcare processes. Our aim in this study is to determine the digital literacy level and awareness of our students receiving health-based education in our university and to pave the way for supporting the current curriculum with courses on digital literacy when necessary. METHOD: Students from Acibadem University who were registered undergraduate education for at least four years of health-based education, School of Medicine, Nutrition and Dietetics, Nursing, Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, Psychology, Biomedical Engineering, Molecular Biology, and Genetics were included. The questionnaire consisted of 24 queries evaluating digital literacy in 7 fields: software and multimedia, hardware and technical problem solving, network and communication/collaboration, ethics, security, artificial intelligence (A.I.), and interest/knowledge. Two student groups representing all departments were invited for interviews according to the Delphi method. RESULTS: The survey was completed by 476 students. Female students had less computer knowledge and previous coding education. Spearman correlation test showed that there were weak positive correlations between the years and the "software and multimedia," "ethics," "interest and knowledge" domains, and the average score. The students from Nursing scored lowest in the query after those from the Nutrition and Dietetics department. The highest scores were obtained by Biomedical Engineering students, followed by the School of Medicine. Participants scored the highest in "network" and "A.I." and lowest in "interest-knowledge" domains. CONCLUSION: It is necessary to define the level of computer skills who start health-based education and shape the curriculum by determining which domains are weak. Creating an educational environment that fosters females' digital knowledge is recommended. Elective courses across faculties may be offered to enable students to progress and discuss various digital literacy topics. The extent to which students benefit from the digital literacy-supported curriculum may be evaluated. Thus, health-based university students are encouraged to acquire the computer skills required by today's clinical settings. REGISTRATION: This study was approved by Acibadem University and Acibadem Healthcare Institutions Medical Research Ethics Committee (ATADEK) (11 November 2022, ATADEK registration: 2022-17-138) All methods were carried out in accordance with relevant guidelines and regulations. Informed consent was obtained from the participants.

In the present study, we analyzed a large corpus of English-language online media articles covering genome-wide association studies (GWAS), exemplifying the use of computational methods to study science communication in biological sciences. We analyzed trends in media coverage, readability, themes, and mentions of ethical and social issues, in over 5,000 websites published from 2005 to 2018 from 3,555 GWAS publications on 1,943 different traits, identified via GWAS Catalog using a text-mining approach to inform the discussion about genetic literacy and media coverage. We found that 22.9% of GWAS papers received media attention but most were described in language too complex to be understood by the public. Ethical issues are rarely mentioned and mentions of translation are increasing over time. We predicted media attention based on year of publication, number of genetic associations identified, study sample size, and journal impact factor, using a regression model (r2 = 38.7%). We found that chronotype, educational attainment, alcohol and coffee consumption, sexual orientation, tanning, and hair color received substantially more attention than predicted by the regression model. We also evaluated the prevalence of the clickbait "one gene, one disease" headlines (e.g., "Scientists Say They've Found Gene That Causes Breast Cancer") and found that it is declining. In sum, online media coverage of GWAS should be more accessible, introduce more modern genetics terms, and when appropriate, ELSI should be mentioned. Science communication research can benefit from big data and text-mining techniques which allow us to study trends and changes in coverage trends across thousands of media outlets. BACKGROUND: Medical training is known to impose financial burden on trainees, which has been shown to contribute to burnout, even possibly compromising patient care. Financial literacy allows for management of financial situations affecting professional and personal life. The authors aimed to evaluate the financial status and knowledge among plastic surgery residents. METHODS: A survey regarding finances and financial literacy of plastic surgery residents was sent to all the current accredited U.S. residency programs. The same survey was distributed internally. A descriptive analysis was performed, and multiple Fisher exact tests and a t test evaluated comparisons. RESULTS: Eighty-six residents were included. Most trainees had a student loan (59.3%), with 22.1% having loans more than $300,000. A majority had at least one personal loan debt other than educational (51.1%). Residents with more debt were significantly less likely to pay off their balances monthly. A total of 17.4% of trainees had no plan for how to invest their retirement savings, whereas 55.8% reported not knowing how much they need to save to retire. One in five trainees did not feel prepared to manage personal finances/retirement planning after graduation, a majority had no formal personal finance education in their curriculum, and 89.5% agreed that financial literacy education would be beneficial. Our institutional data largely mirrored national data. CONCLUSIONS: Many residents are lacking in financial knowledge, despite most having significant debt. Additional financial literacy education is needed in plastic surgery training. Curricula development at an institutional or national society level are possible paths toward a coordinated response to this need.

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to evaluate CRC screening literacy and to determine the association between demographic characteristics and levels of CRC screening literacy and facilitators motivating participation. METHODS: This cross-sectional study was carried out with 1,272 Thai citizens aged 50-70 years consenting to complete the screening protocol. Data were collected at the final visit by a self-reported questionnaire which was developed and validated using I-CVI=1. Difficulty of CRC screening knowledge dimension was tested by KR20, Cronbach's alpha 0.49. RESULTS: The majority of participants, 834 (65.6%) had sufficient CRC screening literacy and association between characteristics and levels of CRC screening literacy was not different. Comparing between characteristics and facilitators showed significant differences in trusting healthcare providers, perceiving harmless procedures, having constipation and time available. By married and own income participants exhibited lower trust in healthcare providers, 68% (OR 0.32, 95%CI 0.14 - 0.73) and 59% (OR 0.41, 95%CI 0.19 - 0.95), respectively. Married individuals perceived the procedures of screening involved higher harm, 32% (OR 0.68, 95%CI 0.45 - 0.99). Female and age over 60 with constipation constituted higher screening, 1.9 fold (OR 1.93, 95%CI 1.44 - 2.60) and 1.4 fold (OR 1.44, 95%CI 1.09 - 1.90). Though time available, age over 60 was lower screening 56% (OR 0.44, 95%CI 0.24 - 0.80), while own income and income more than 30,000 THB/month participants constituted higher screening 15 fold (OR 15.14, 95%CI 4.72 - 48.56) and 2.5 fold (OR 2.50, 95%CI 1.50 - 4.18), respectively. CONCLUSION: CRC screening literacy of participants was high. The association between characteristics and CRC screening literacy levels did not differ while characteristics and facilitators differed in some aspects. The free program promoted CRC screening equity; however, multilevel facilitators must be concerned, prioritized and intervened to motivate participation.

The current study aimed to measure genomic literacy among Jordanian nurses by evaluating their understanding of key genomic concepts and how they view genomics in nursing practice. Descriptive, Cross-sectional, and Correlational designs were used in this study. A descriptive design was used using the Genomic Nursing Concept Inventory (GNCI©), a 31-item instrument. Data were collected from a total of 751 participants. A total of 406 participants were female, and 395 (52.6%) were single. The mean score of the genome basics was 2.33, ranging from 0 to 13. The mean score of the knowledge about mutation was 0.57, ranging from 0 to 3. At the same time, the mean score for inheritance and genomic healthcare was 1.74 and 1.53, respectively. Nurses working in the oncology center had the highest genomic knowledge score (mean = 7.05, SD = 4.24) compared with nurses in other healthcare sectors (p = < .001). There is a low level of genomic literacy among Jordanian nurses. Nurses must have sufficient genomic literacy to provide the best nursing care to patients, their families, and the community. Jordanian nurse authorities must develop competencies representing a minimum standard of care to provide competent genomic and genetically focused care.

Melanoma is a significant cause of cancer death, despite being detectable without specialized or invasive technologies. Understanding barriers to preventive behaviors such as skin self-examination (SSE) could help to define interventions for increasing the frequency of early detection. To determine melanoma knowledge and beliefs across three high-incidence US states, 15,000 surveys were sent to a population-representative sample. We aimed to assess (1) melanoma literacy (i.e., knowledge about melanoma risks, attitudes, and preventive behaviors) and (2) self-reported SSE and its association with melanoma literacy, self-efficacy, and belief in the benefits of SSE. Of 2326 respondents, only 21.2% provided responses indicating high knowledge of melanoma, and 62.8% reported performing an SSE at any time in their lives. Only 38.3% and 7.3% reported being "fairly" or "very" confident about doing SSE, respectively. SSE performance among respondents was most strongly associated with higher melanoma knowledge, higher self-efficacy, and personal history of melanoma. Melanoma literacy among survey respondents was modest, with greater literacy associated with a higher likelihood of reported preventive behavior. This assessment establishes a baseline and provides guidance for public health campaigns designed to increase prevention and early detection of this lethal cancer.

Introdução: O ensino remoto limitou a vivência de experiências concretas em espaços coletivos de formação de conhecimentos e intensificou a vulnerabilidade infantil quanto à educação formal, em especial as crianças em fase inicial de alfabetização. A partir deste panorama, tornou-se fundamental investigar o desempenho de escolares em busca de informações sobre a repercussão ocasionada pela pandemia de COVID-19 ao desenvolvimento infantil. Objetivo: Verificar o desempenho de pré-escolares em vocabulário e habilidades preditivas no ensino híbrido, frente aos impactos da pandemia de COVID-19. Método: Participaram deste estudo 12 escolares, com idade entre 5 a 6 anos, pertencentes ao terceiro período da educação infantil. Para a avaliação foram selecionados o Protocolo de Identificação Precoce dos Problemas de Leitura, e os Testes de Vocabulário Auditivo e de Vocabulário Expressivo. Resultados: Os dados obtidos demonstraram significância estatística para as provas de Vocabulário Receptivo em relação ao Expressivo, Nomeação Automática Rápida e Conhecimento do Alfabeto, Segmentação Silábica e Produção de Rima, acertos para Vocabulário Expressivo e Conhecimento do Alfabeto, assim como para a quantidade de erros em Vocabulário Expressivo e para a Nomeação Automática Rápida. Conclusão: O sucesso almejado para o ingresso no 1º ano do Ensino Fundamental dependerá das variações individuais de cada aluno quanto ao desempenho dos aspectos avaliados neste trabalho e à qualidade dos estímulos recebidos. Introduction: Remote teaching limited the experience of concrete experiences in collective spaces for the formation of knowledge and intensified children's vulnerability in terms of formal education, especially children in the initial phase of literacy. From this panorama, it became essential to investigate the performance of students in search of information about the impact caused by the pandemic of COVID-19 on child development. Objective: To verify the performance of preschoolers in vocabulary and predictive skills in hybrid teaching, given the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. Method: Participated in this study 12 schoolchildren, aged between 5 and 6 years, belonging to the third period of early childhood education. For the evaluation were selected the Protocol for Early Identification of Reading Problems, and the Auditory Vocabulary and Expressive Vocabulary Tests. Results: The data obtained showed statistical significance for the tests of Receptive Vocabulary in relation to Expressive, Rapid Automatic Naming and Alphabet Knowledge, Syllabic Segmentation and Rhyme Production, correct answers for Expressive Vocabulary and Alphabet Knowledge, as well as for the number of errors in Expressive Vocabulary and for the Automatic Rapid Naming. Conclusion: The desired success for entering the 1st year of Elementary School will depend on the individual variations of each student regarding the performance of the aspects evaluated in this work and the quality of the stimuli received. Introducción: La enseñanza a distancia limitó la vivencia de experiencias concretas en espacios colectivos de formación de saberes e intensificó la vulnerabilidad de los niños frente a la educación formal, especialmente de los niños en fase inicial de alfabetización. A partir de este panorama, se hizo imprescindible investigar el desempeño de los escolares en busca de información sobre el impacto que la pandemia de la COVID-19 provocó en el desarrollo infantil. Objetivo: Verificar el desempeño de preescolares en vocabulario y habilidades predictivas en aprendizaje semipresencial, ante los impactos de la pandemia del COVID-19. Método: Participaron en este estudio 12 escolares, con edades comprendidas entre los 5 y 6 años, pertenecientes al tercer ciclo de educación infantil. Para la evaluación se seleccionaron el Protocolo para la Identificación Temprana de Problemas de Lectura, y las Pruebas de Vocabulario Auditivo y Vocabulario Expresivo. Resultados: Los datos obtenidos mostraron significancia estadística para las pruebas de Vocabulario Receptivo en relación con Expresivo, Denominación Automática Rápida y Conocimiento del Alfabeto, Segmentación Silábica y Producción de Rimas, aciertos para Vocabulario Expresivo y Conocimiento del Alfabeto, así como para el número de errores en Vocabulario Expresivo y para Nomenclatura Automática Rápida. Conclusión: El éxito deseado para el ingreso al 1° año de la Enseñanza Fundamental dependerá de las variaciones individuales de cada estudiante en cuanto al desempeño de los aspectos evaluados en este trabajo y la calidad de los estímulos recibidos. Background: Short videos on social media are playing an increasingly important role in cancer health education today. It is important to explore how the actual communication effect of health videos and the knowledge absorption of users are influenced by different factors of the video creation process. Objective: The objective of our study is to access the factors influencing breast cancer health education through short videos on efficiency and quality. Methods: Three pairs of videos about breast health were created and participants completed questionnaires before and after watching the videos. A paired t-test was used to analyze within-group change scores. RM-ANOVA was used to assess the relationship between the pretest, posttest, and three variables. Results: Watching short videos can significantly increase viewers' knowledge of related health topics (p < 0.05). The viewers' concentration level while watching was significantly higher for the video with background music (BGM) than for the video without BGM (p = 0.006). The viewers' willingness to share was significantly higher for the video with a progress bar than for the video without a progress bar (p = 0.02). Using an interpreter wearing a doctor's uniform instead of casual wear and setting a progress bar can significantly improve the efficiency of knowledge absorption (p < 0.05). Conclusion: A uniformed interpreter, BGM and a progress bar are factors influencing the efficiency of short health videos. They can be applied in video making to explore better ways of promoting cancer health education in the new mobile Internet environment.

Low educational attainment and high cancer incidence and mortality rates have long been a challenge in Appalachian Kentucky. Prior studies have reported disparities in cancer incidence and mortality between Appalachian and non-Appalachian populations, but the influence of education on this disparity has not been extensively studied. Herein, all cancers and two cancer sites with available screenings (colorectal and lung) were joined with education indicators (educational attainment and literacy) and one geographic indicator across all 120 Kentucky counties. This dataset was used to build choropleth maps and perform simple linear and spatial regression to assess statistical significance and to measure the strength of the linear relationship between county-level education and cancer-related outcomes in Appalachian and non-Appalachian Kentucky. Among all cancer sites, age-adjusted cancer incidence and mortality was higher in Appalachian versus non-Appalachian Kentucky. The percentage of the population not completing high school was positively correlated with increased colorectal and lung cancer incidence and mortality in Appalachia. Similarly, counties with a higher percentage of the population lacking basic literacy had the strongest correlation with colorectal and lung cancer incidence and mortality, which were concentrated in Appalachian Kentucky. Our findings suggest a need for implementing interventions that increase educational attainment and enhance basic literacy as a means of improving cancer outcomes in Appalachia.

OBJECTIVE: This study focused on the issues surrounding health literacy in the context of women's sexual and reproductive health (SRH), the significance and availability of information for midwives and women; and the socio-cultural influences and barriers related to women's level of health literacy. METHODS: A cross sectional on-line survey was distributed to 280 student midwives in their 2nd 3rd and 4th year of a midwifery programme. This paper focuses on the responses from 138 students which were analysed using descriptive and non-parametric tests. RESULTS: Student midwives indicated their level of agreement regarding women's ability to access, understand, and appraise information they received verbally and in written form about the six main SRH topics (namely contraception, STIs, abortion, Pap tests and cervical cancer, and fertility and pregnancy), from their midwife but agreement was much lower regarding women's access to SRH information from peers and their families. False beliefs were ranked as the most common barrier to accessing information and services. Students ranked being a refugee, being from a rural area, being educated to a primary school level or not formally educated, as having the greatest negative impact on women's health literacy. CONCLUSIONS: Findings from this study indicate the role that the sociocultural background of Islamic culture plays in the disparities in sexual and reproductive health literacy (SRHL) for women from the perspective of student midwives. Our findings indicate the need for future research to focus on women as participants to gain their first-hand experiences of SRHL.
