RESUMO

The rail industry in Australia screens workers for probable obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) due to known safety risks. However, existing criteria to trigger screening only identify a small proportion of workers with OSA. The current study sought to examine the relationship between OSA risk and rail incidents in real-world data from Australian train drivers, and conducted a proof of concept analysis to determine whether more conservative screening criteria are justified. Health assessment (2016-2018) and subsequent rail incident data (2016-2020) were collected from two passenger rail service providers. Predictors included OSA status (confirmed no OSA with a sleep study, controlled OSA, unknown OSA [no recorded sleep assessment data] and confirmed OSA with no indication of treatment); OSA risk according to the current Standard, and OSA risk according to more conservative clinical markers (BMI threshold and cardiometabolic burden). Coded rail safety incidents involving the train driver were included. Data were analysed using zero-inflated negative binomial models to account for over-dispersion with high 0 counts, and rail safety incidents are reported using Incidence Risk Ratios (IRRs). A total of 751 train drivers, typically middle-aged, overweight to obese and mostly men, were included in analyses. There were 43 (5.7%) drivers with confirmed OSA, 62 (8.2%) with controlled OSA, 13 (1.7%) with confirmed no OSA and 633 (84.4%) drivers with unknown OSA. Of the 633 train drivers with unknown OSA status, 21 (3.3%) met 'at risk' criteria for OSA according to the Standard, and incidents were 61% greater (IRR: 1.61, 95% Confidence Interval (CI) 1.02-2.56) in the years following their health assessment compared to drivers who did not meet 'at risk' criteria. A more conservative OSA risk status using lower BMI threshold and cardiometabolic burden identified an additional 30 'at risk' train drivers who had 46% greater incidents compared to drivers who did not meet risk criteria (IRR (95% CI) 1.46 (1.00-2.13)). Our more conservative OSA risk criteria identified more workers, with greater prospective incidents. These findings suggest that existing validated tools could be considered in future iterations of the Standard in order to more sensitively screen for OSA.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: OSA is a known medical condition that is associated with several comorbidities and affect patients' quality of life. The association between OSA and lung cancer remains debated. Some studies reported increased prevalence of OSA in patients with lung cancer. We aimed to assess predictors of moderate-to-severe OSA in patients with lung cancer. METHODS: We enrolled 153 adult patients who were newly diagnosed with lung cancer. Cardiorespiratory monitoring was performed using home sleep apnea device. We carried out Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis on multiple parameters including age, gender, smoking status, neck circumference, waist circumference, BMI, stage and histopathology of lung cancer, presence of superior vena cava obstruction, and performance status to find out the factors that are independently associated with a diagnosis of moderate-to-severe OSA. RESULTS: Our results suggest that poor performance status is the most significant predictor of moderate to severe OSA in patients with lung cancer after controlling for important confounders. CONCLUSION: Performance status is a predictor of moderate to severe OSA in patients with lung cancer in our population of middle eastern ethnicity.

PURPOSE: This study aimed to investigate the role of nap polysomnography (NPSG) in predicting treatment strategies for infants with moderate to severe laryngomalacia and to explore the association between obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) severity, weight gain, and laryngomalacia severity. METHODS: A retrospective analysis was conducted on infants diagnosed with moderate to severe laryngomalacia who underwent NPSG between January 2019 and June 2023. Clinical variables, NPSG parameters, and treatment decisions were collected. Weight gain rate and its correlation with NPSG indices were assessed. Logistic regression analyses were performed to predict treatment strategies based on NPSG findings. RESULTS: Of the 39 infants included (median age: 3.3 months), 77% exhibited OSA, with 69% having moderate to severe OSA [apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) > 5/h]. Weight gain rate correlated negatively with indices of OSA severity, including the hypopnea index (HI) and the AHI. In a multiple logistic regression analysis incorporating the severity of OSA (AHI), weight gain rate, and laryngomalacia severity, only AHI predicted the decision for surgical or non-invasive ventilation treatment (OR = 2.1, CI95 [1.6; 2.8], p ≤ 10-4). The weight gain rate was predicted (r2 = 0.28) by the AHI and the presence of retractions of auxiliary inspiratory muscles. CONCLUSION: This study underscores the importance of NPSG in assessing infants with moderate to severe laryngomalacia. The AHI from NPSG emerged as a potential predictor for treatment decisions and weight gain rate, emphasizing its clinical relevance. These findings advocate incorporating NPSG into the diagnostic and management process for infants with laryngomalacia.

BACKGROUND: The association between obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) and mortality has not been extensively researched among individuals with varying diabetic status. This study aimed to compare the relationship of OSAS with all-cause and cause-specific mortality in US individuals with or without diabetes based on data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). METHODS: The study included participants from the NHANES 2005-2008 and 2015-2018 cycles with follow-up information. OSAS data (OSAS.MAP10) was estimated from the questionnaire. Hazard ratios (HRs) and the 95% confidence interval (CI) of OSAS for mortality were calculated by Cox regression analysis in populations with different diabetes status. The relationships between OSAS and mortality risk were examined using survival curves and restricted cubic spline curves. RESULTS: A total of 13 761 participants with 7.68 ± 0.042 follow-up years were included. In the nondiabetic group, OSAS.MAP10 was positively associated with all-cause, cardiovascular, and cancer mortality. In individuals with prediabetes, OSAS.MAP10 was positively related to all-cause mortality (HR 1.11 [95% CI: 1.03-1.20]) and cardiovascular mortality (HR 1.17 [95% CI: 1.03-1.33]). The relationship between OSAS.MAP10 and the risk of all-cause mortality and cancer mortality exhibited L-shaped curves in diabetes patients (both with nonlinear p values <.01). Further threshold effect analysis revealed that OSAS was positively related to death risk when OSAS.MAP10 exceeded the threshold scores. CONCLUSION: The relationship between OSAS and mortality differed among participants with or without diabetes. Individualized clinical treatment plans should be developed in clinical practice to reduce the risk of death for patients with different metabolic conditions.

BACKGROUND: Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) affects nearly 1 billion people globally, and has established links with cardiovascular and neurocognitive complications. Although it has some limitations, the apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) is commonly used to gauge OSA severity and therapeutic response. Homocysteine (Hcy) metabolism, when impaired, can elicit cellular senescence mechanisms that may be shared with OSA. Hence, our objective was to explore the role of Hcy concentrations both as a predictor of AHI values and as a potential risk factor for OSA. METHODS: Involving 1042 volunteers aged 20 to 80 years, the initial study (2007) included polysomnographic evaluations, questionnaires on sleep and general health, as well as biochemical analyses. After an 8-year interval, 715 participants from the initial study were invited for a follow-up assessment in 2015. RESULTS: Our findings showed that Hcy was a predictor for an increased AHI, and AHI increased over time. Individuals with plasma Hcy concentrations ≥ 15 µmol/L experienced an average AHI increase of 7.43 events/hour ([beta coefficient] ß = 7.43; 95%CI 2.73 to 12.13) over time, compared to those with plasma concentrations < 10 µmol/L. A similar trend was apparent in those with plasma Hcy concentrations between 10 ≥ and < 15 µmol/L, who had an AHI increase with an average beta coefficient of 3.20 events/hour (95%CI 1.01 to 5.39) compared to those with plasma Hcy concentrations < 10 µmol/L. CONCLUSIONS: In summary, our study suggests that increased plasma Hcy concentrations could be considered a risk factor for the development of OSA. These findings highlight that elevated plasma Hcy concentrations can predict the severity of OSA, underscoring their correlation with the AHI.

RESUMO

Obstructed breathing is the most common indication for tonsillectomy in children. Although tonsillectomy is performed frequently worldwide, the surgery is associated with a number of significant complications such as bleeding and respiratory failure. Complication risk depends on a number of complex factors, including indications for surgery, demographics, patient comorbidities, and variations in perioperative techniques. While polysomnography is currently accepted as the gold standard diagnostic tool for obstructive sleep apnea, studies evaluating outcomes following surgery suggest that more research is needed on the identification of more readily available and accurate tools for the diagnosis and follow-up of children with obstructed breathing.

Objectives: Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) can adversely affect the immune response through clinical factors such as hypoxia, inflammation, and sleep disturbance. Since SARS-CoV-2 heavily relies on local and systemic host immune responses, this study aims to examine the links between the severity of OSA risk, cytokine levels, and the severity of symptoms associated with SARS-CoV-2 infection. Methods: Saliva and blood samples from 50 COVID-19 patients and 30 non-infected hospital staff members were collected. Using Luminex multiplex analysis, 65 blood and salivary cytokines were examined from the collected samples. Ordinal logistic regression analysis was utilized to examine the association between the self-reported risk of OSA, assessed through the STOP-Bang questionnaire, and the likelihood of experiencing severe symptoms of COVID-19. Mann-Whitney test was then performed to compare the cytokine levels between individuals with moderate to severe risk of OSA to those with a mild risk of OSA. Results: Ordinal logistic regression analysis revealed that individuals with a moderate to severe risk of OSA were 7.60 times more likely to experience more severe symptoms of COVID-19 compared to those with a mild risk of OSA (OR = 7.60, 95%CI: 3.03, 19.06, p < 0.001). Moreover, among COVID-19-positive patients with a moderate to severe risk of OSA, there was a statistically significant negative correlation with serum IL-6 (p < 0.05), Eotaxin (CCL11) (p = 0.04), and salivary MIP-3α/CCL20 (p = 0.04). In contrast, individuals without COVID-19 who had a moderate to severe risk of OSA exhibited a significant positive correlation with serum IL-6 (p = 0.04). Conclusion: Individuals with moderate to severe risk of OSA were more likely to experience severe COVID-19 symptoms than those with mild risk for OSA. Additional analysis from the present studies revealed distinct patterns of oral and systemic immune responses between individuals with mild and moderate to severe risk of OSA. Findings from the present study underscores the importance of early detection and management of OSA to improve clinical outcomes, particularly when faced with the subsequent superimposed infection such as COVID-19.

RESUMO

Obstructive sleep apnea in newborns and infants presents a unique challenge with distinct differences in sleep physiology, etiologies, and management compared to older children. The indications for and interpretation of polysomnography are less well defined in infants. There are also no broadly accepted clinical practice guidelines for treating sleep apnea in this age group. Etiologies include general causes of upper airway obstruction in infants such as laryngomalacia, micrognathia, and nasal obstruction in addition to adenotonsillar hypertrophy. Treatment strategies must be tailored to the specific anatomic features and comorbidities of the specific patients and often require a multidisciplinary approach.

AIM: To assess respiratory symptoms and nocturnal gastro-oesophageal reflux (nGER) among untreated obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) patients, compared with the general population. Also, if nGER associates differently with respiratory symptoms among OSA patients. METHODS: 2 study cohorts were included: 822 newly diagnosed subjects with moderate-severe OSA and 738 Icelandic general population study participants. All participants answered the same questionnaires. Those reporting nGER symptoms at least once per week were defined as 'with nGER'; those without nGER symptoms and without nGER medication were defined as 'no nGER'; and other participants were defined as having 'possible nGER'. Propensity score-based weights were used to minimise confounding and selection bias and facilitate causal interpretations. RESULTS: The prevalence of nGER among OSA patients was 14.1%, compared with 5.8% in the general population. This increased prevalence in OSA was not explained by differences in age, gender, body mass index, smoking, hypertension and diabetes (adjusted OR (95% CI)=3.79 (2.24 to 6.43)). OSA patients 'with nGER' and with 'possible nGER' reported more wheezing (44% and 44% vs 25%, respectively) and productive cough (47% and 42% vs 29%, respectively), compared with OSA patients with 'no nGER'. The same pattern was seen in the general population, although with a generally lower prevalence. The effect of nGER on respiratory symptoms was similar between the two cohorts. CONCLUSION: nGER was more often reported among untreated moderate-severe OSA patients than in the general population. Participants with nGER had more wheezing and productive cough, both among untreated OSA patients and in the general population.

Patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) are liable to have resistant hypertension (RH) associated with unfavorable cardiovascular events. It is of necessity to predict OSA patients who are susceptible to resistant hypertension. Hence, we conducted a retrospective study based on the clinical records of OSA patients admitted to Yixing Hospital Affiliated to Jiangsu University from January 2018 to December 2022. According to different time periods, patients diagnosed between January 2018 and December 2021 were included in the training set (n = 539) for modeling, and those diagnosed between January 2022 and December 2022 were enrolled into the validation set (n = 259) for further assessment. The incidence of RH in the training set and external validation set was comparable (P = 0.396). The related clinical data of patients enrolled were collected and analyzed through univariate analysis and least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) logistic regression analysis to identify independent risk factors and construct a nomogram. Finally, five variables were confirmed as independent risk factors for OSA patients with RH, including smoking, heart disease, neck circumference, AHI and T90. The nomogram established on the basis of variables above was shown to have good discrimination and calibration in both the training set and validation set. Decision curve analysis indicated that the nomogram was useful for a majority of OSA patients. Therefore, our nomogram might be useful to identify OSA patients at high risk of developing RH and facilitate the individualized management of OSA patients in clinical practice.

OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to evaluate the validity of a modified STOP-Bang questionnaire with different body mass index reference as a screening tool for obstructive sleep apnea in Korean population. METHODS: The medical records of 1417 participants who underwent overnight Level I polysomnography were retrospectively analyzed. Predictive parameters were calculated for each of the 3 groups classified by obstructive sleep apnea severity with a cut-off value of 3 or 4. Responses to modified and traditional questionnaires were comparatively analyzed by receiver-operator characteristic curves and area under the receiver-operator characteristic curves. RESULTS: The optimal cut-off values of the modified and traditional questionnaires were both 3.5. The area under the receiver-operator characteristic curve of modified STOP-Bang questionnaire for any obstructive sleep apnea group was 0.786 ± 0.018, which was significantly higher than that of the traditional questionnaire. The modified STOP-Bang questionnaire with a cut-off value ≥4 showed significantly higher sensitivity than the traditional one for any obstructive sleep apnea group. The diagnostic accuracy of the modified questionnaire was also significantly higher for the any obstructive sleep apnea group when the cut-off value was 4. CONCLUSION: The modified STOP-Bang questionnaire, with a cut-off value of 4, can be used as an alternative to the traditional screening tool for the Korean population.

Importance: Exposure to secondhand smoke has been associated with numerous health problems in children, including obstructive sleep apnea. Secondhand smoke exposure may be a risk factor for increased pediatric sleep apnea severity. Objectives: To assess the association of secondhand smoke exposure (SHSe), quantified by urinary cotinine levels, with severity of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in children. Design, Setting, and Participants: This was a prospective cohort trial including pediatric patients from 3 to 16 years of age with sleep-disordered breathing who underwent a polysomnogram at a tertiary-level children's hospital in the US in either March 2014 to October 2016 or March 2020 to March 2021. Urine specimens were analyzed for cotinine, an important metabolite of nicotine. Each child's caregiver completed a validated SHSe questionnaire. Data were analyzed from February to June 2023. Exposure: OSA and secondhand smoke. Main Outcome and Measures: SHSe and severity of pediatric OSA, quantified by urinary cotinine levels and obstructive apnea hypopnea index (AHI) scores. Secondary outcomes were association of urinary cotinine levels with nadir oxygen saturation, sleep-related quality of life measured by the OSA-18 questionnaire, and caregiver-reported smoking habits (collected through a questionnaire). Results: The study included 116 patients with a median (IQR) age of 6 (5-9) years, among whom 51 (45%) had obesity. The median (IQR) AHI was 3.0 (1.2-8.0), with 28 children (30.0%) having severe disease (AHI >10). Thirty-four children (29.0%) were found to have a positive result for urine cotinine screening, with a mean (SD) level of 11.7 (9.4) ng/mL. The percentage of children with SHSe was less than anticipated. There was no association identified between urinary cotinine levels and either AHI (ρ = -0.04; 95% CI, -0.22 to 0.15) or nadir oxygen saturation (ρ = -0.07; 95% CI, -0.26 to 0.11). Furthermore, SHSe was not associated with the presence of severe OSA (odds ratio, 0.70; 95% CI, 0.26 to 1.90). Children whose caregivers reported indoor SHSe were more likely to have a detectable urinary cotinine level (odds ratio, 20.3; 95% CI, 6.67 to 61.8). Conclusions and Relevance: This cohort study did not identify any clinically meaningful association between SHSe, quantified by urinary cotinine level, and pediatric OSA severity. Future research with a larger number of children with SHSe is needed to confirm these findings and determine whether SHSe affects OSA treatment outcomes in children.

Paediatric sleep-disordered breathing is a common condition which varies in severity from snoring to obstructive sleep apnoea. Paediatric sleep-disordered breathing is usually diagnosed clinically, with investigations such as polysomnography reserved for more complex cases. Management can involve watching and waiting, medical or adjunct treatments and adenotonsillectomy. National working groups have sought to standardise the pathway for surgery and improve the management of surgical and anaesthetic complications. Current guidelines use age, weight and comorbidities to stratify risk for these surgical cases. This article summarises these recommendations and outlines the important factors that indicate cases that may be more suitable for management in secondary and tertiary units. Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a respiratory disorder that has a high prevalence in patients with craniofacial, neurocognitive, and neuromuscular disorders. Currently, the treatments for this population are diverse and depend on the individual conditions of the patient and the severity of the case. However, there are no multidisciplinary dental treatment guidelines. The aim of the present study was to determine the multidisciplinary dental treatment alternatives in patients with craniofacial, neurocognitive, and neuromuscular disorders with a diagnosis of OSA through evidence-based medicine. A systematic review of the literature has been performed by searching scientific articles in the PubMed, Cochrane, Ovid, ScienceDirect and Scopus databases, through controlled and uncontrolled language. Articles were classified according to the level of evidence and grades of recommendation through the Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network. A total of 19,439 references were identified, of which 15 articles met the predetermined requirements to be included in the investigation. The articles included for this systematic review showed that mandibular distraction osteogenesis and adenotonsilectomy are the first-choice therapies for craniofacial and neurocognitive disorders. However, for neuromuscular disorders, the findings reported were not enough to provide information about surgical or nonsurgical alternatives. Despite the reported high frequency of OSA in those children with craniofacial, neurocognitive, and neuromuscular disorders, the evidence on the surgical and nonsurgical therapeutic success for OSA in these patients is scarce. STUDY OBJECTIVES: The association of in-hospital medical emergency team activation (META) among patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) at risk for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is unclear. This study evaluates the performance of the DOISNORE50 sleep questionnaire as an OSA screener for patients with AF and determines the prevalence of META among perioperative patients with underlying AF who have a diagnosis or are at risk for OSA. METHODS: A prospective perioperative cohort of 2,926 patients with the diagnosis of AF was assessed for DOISNORE50 questionnaire screening. Propensity-score matching was used to match patients' physical characteristics, comorbidities, length of stay, and inpatient continuous positive airway pressure device usage. META and intensive care unit admissions during the surgical encounter, 30-day hospital readmissions, and 30-day emergency department visits were evaluated. RESULTS: A total of 1,509 out of 2,926 AF patients completed the DOISNORE50 questionnaire and were enrolled in the OSA safety protocol. Following propensity-score matching, there were reduced adjusted odds of META in the screened group of 0.69 (95% confidence interval: 0.48-0.98, P < .001) in comparison to the unscreened group. The adjusted odds of intensive care unit admissions and emergency department visits within 30 days of discharge were statistically lower for the screened group compared with the unscreened group. CONCLUSIONS: Among perioperative AF patients, evidence supports DOISNORE50 screening and implementation of an OSA safety protocol for reduction of META. This study identified decreased odds of META, intensive care unit admissions, and emergency department visits among the screened group. INTRODUCTION: Sleep apnea (SA) is an important comorbidity in end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients. The association between SA and cardiac and neurological disease is known. This study investigates the relationship between SA and cardiovascular and cerebrovascular outcomes in the ESRD population. METHODS: In a retrospective cohort study, the United States Renal Data System was queried to identify ESRD patients aged 18-100 years in whom hemodialysis had been initiated between 2005 and 2013. Diagnoses of SA and clinical comorbidities were determined from International Classification of Disease-9 codes. Demographic variables were obtained from Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Form-2728. Logistic regression was used to examine the association of SA with myocardial infarction (MI) or with stroke, controlling for demographic and clinical variables. RESULTS: Of 858,131 subjects meeting the inclusion criteria, 587 had central SA, and 22,724 had obstructive SA. The SA cohort was younger, more likely to be male and Caucasian compared to the non-SA cohort. Patients with SA also had more tobacco and alcohol use, hypertension, heart failure, and diabetes. Central SA (aRR = 1.69, 95% CI = 1.28-2.23) and obstructive SA (aRR = 1.15, 95% CI = 1.09-1.21) were associated with an increased risk of stroke but not MI. CONCLUSION: In the ESRD population, a diagnosis of central SA or obstructive SA increased the risk of stroke, but not MI. Early identification and treatment of SA in the ESRD population may help reduce the risk of stroke in these patients.

OBJECTIVES: To compare functional outcomes and complication rates of anterolateral advancement pharyngoplasty (ALA) versus barbed reposition pharyngoplasty (BRP) in the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea patients with palatal and lateral pharyngeal wall collapse. STUDY DESIGN: Prospective study. SETTING: University hospitals. SUBJECTS AND METHODS: Forty-six patients were included in this study. Patients were divided into two groups randomly, group 1 (23 cases) underwent anterolateral advancement pharyngoplasty and group 2 (23 cases) underwent barbed relocation pharyngoplasty. According to the following criteria: both sex, age between 18 and 65 years, body mass index ≤ 32 kg/m2, Friedman stage II or III, type I Fujita, nocturnal polysomnography study diagnostic for OSA, retropalatal and lateral pharyngeal wall collapse, diagnosis with flexible nasoendoscopy during a Muller's maneuver based on a 5-point scale and drug-induced sleep endoscopy. Patients who suffered from retroglossal airway collapse were rolled out. RESULTS: Apnea-hypopnea index decreased from 27.50 ± 11.56 to 11.22 ± 7.63 (P ≤ .001) in group 1 and from 33.18 ± 10.94 to 12.38 ± 6.77 (P ≤ .001) in group 2. Retropalatal posterior airway space increased from 9.84 ± 1.29 mm to 21.48 ± 2.8 mm (P ≤ .001) in group 1 and increased from 10.26 ± 1.2 mm to 22.86 ± 2.62 mm (P ≤ .001) in group 2. Retropalatal space volume increased from 1.9 ± 0.68 cm3 to 2.75 ± 0.7 cm3 (P ≤ .001) in group 1 and increased from 1.96 ± 0.88 cm3 to 2.82 ± 0.83 cm3 (P ≤ .001) in group 2. Surgical success was 86.95% in group 1 compared to 82.6% in group 2. CONCLUSIONS: Both techniques appear to be effective with a high surgical success rate in the treatment of OSA patients with retropalatal and lateral pharyngeal wall collapse.

PURPOSE: The study aimed to assess the performance of the PVT in patients with suspected OSA, evaluate its role in population screening for OSA. METHODS: The NoSAS, STOP-Bang, ESS scores and PVT tests were performed after suspected OSA patients' admission, followed by PSG. Then we compared the PVT results, calculated the sensitivity, specificity and ROC curve of PVT, and analyzed the accuracy of STOP-Bang and NoSAS questionnaire combined with PVT in predicting OSA. RESULTS: A total of 308 patients were divided into four groups based on AHI: primary snoring (2.74 ± 1.4 events/h, n = 37); mild OSA (9.96 ± 3.25 events/h, n = 65); moderate OSA (22.41 ± 4.48 events/h, n = 76); and, severe OSA (59.42 ± 18.37 events/h, n = 130). There were significant differences in PVT lapses (p < 0.001) and reaction time (RT, p = 0.03) among the four groups. The PVT lapses and RT were positively correlated with AHI (p < 0.001) and ODI (p < 0.001), and negatively correlated with LSpO2 (p < 0.001). When diagnosing OSA (AHI ≥ 5 events/h), the AUCs of PVT, ESS, STOP-Bang, and NoSAS were 0.679, 0.579, 0.727, and 0.653, respectively; the AUCs of STOP-Bang and NoSAS combined with PVT increased. After combined PVT, the diagnostic specificity of STOP-Bang and NoSAS at nodes with AHI ≥ 5, ≥ 15 and ≥ 30 events/h increased to varying degrees. CONCLUSION: Patients with OSA exhibited impairment in the PVT, and the combination of the PVT and STOP-Bang or NoSAS scores can improve the diagnostic efficacy and specificity for OSA.
