The map provides an overview of the evidence on the effects of Anthroposophic Medicine, referred to in the National Policy on Integrative and Complementary Practices (PNPIC) as applied Anthroposophy in Health, due to its multiprofessional nature. Based on an extensive literature search, the map includes 33 review studies that analyzed the effects of interventions with anthroposophic medicines, anthroposophic therapies, and multimodal therapies on clinical outcomes. The map represents 63 associations between 5 types of interventions and 19 clinical outcomes, indicating the reported effect and level of confidence in the evidence reported in the studies. Key Findings: • The interventions were organized into three groups: Anthroposophic Medicines (Viscum album - 22 reviews and Other medicines - 4 reviews), Anthroposophic Therapies (Eurythmy - 2 reviews and Other therapies - 1 review), and Multimodal Therapies (Overall - 4 reviews). • The interventions were associated with 19 outcomes grouped into five categories: Well-being and Quality of Life, Cancer, Healthcare, Physiological and Metabolic Indicators, and other Pathological Conditions. • The majority of associations were found in the Cancer outcome group, followed by the Well-being and Quality of Life group. Notable outcomes included Quality of Life (12 reviews), Survival (9 reviews), Patient Safety (8 reviews), and Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy Symptoms (7 reviews). • Among the interventions, the majority of associations were related to Viscum album (48 associations). • Multimodal interventions, other medicines, eurythmy, and other therapies were associated with outcomes such as Treatment Outcome (5 associations), Patient Satisfaction and Safety (2 associations each), Respiratory Infections (3 associations), Cardiorespiratory Coordination, Gastrointestinal Disorders, and Edema (1 association each). Implications for Practice and Research: • Considering the reported positive effects (in 27 associations), the use of anthroposophic medicines Viscum album (19 associations) stands out for Quality of Life, Patient Safety, and Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy Symptoms outcomes. • Regarding potentially positive effects (in 21 associations), the majority were associated with Viscum album (18 associations) for Cancer Survival, Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy Symptoms, and Quality of Life outcomes. • Inconclusive effects were identified in 15 associations for 11 different outcomes, suggesting a need for further primary studies on interventions with anthroposophic medicines and therapies. • No studies were identified with no effect or negative effects.

This manuscript aims to characterize and describe the flows of the Aluízio Lopes de Brito Psychological Practices Assessment System (SAPP), an instrument established within the framework of the Psychology Council System and regulated by the Federal Council of Psychology (CFP) with Resolution CFP No. 15, of August 18, 2023. The SAPP arises from the pressing need for professional guidance and qualification in the face of emerging practices that shape the knowledge/practice of psychology. In this sense, it is a process that seeks to guide, qualify, and make known practices that are compatible or not with the professional practice of psychology. The work carried out in the SAPP will produce opinions that will contribute minimally to the understanding of the boundaries that delimit the fields of psychology and, by excellence, we will better understand our own modes of operation. Considering the trinity of theory-practice-ethics, the CFP hopes with the SAPP to open dialogues with groups, practices, and knowledge that are in the borders and are constantly relegated by hegemonic psychology. To this end, it assumes that the knowledge and practices of these populations can refine psychological theories and advance psychology as a science and profession.(AU)

Therefore, this article aims to present the research results related to the objective of mapping the health care processes offered in three Umbanda terreiros of a city on the Piauí Coast. For this, we use the Institutional Analysis reference "on Paper." The participants were three leaders of terreiros and the respective practitioners/consultants of their religious establishments. We identified perspectives of care that contrasted with biomedical, positivist, and Cartesian rationalities and referred to the use of medicinal plants, the prescript of prayers and passes, and oracular consultation. From these results, we can see that it is increasingly necessary, therefore, that the peoples of the terreiros lead the construction, implementation, and evaluation of public policies that are specific to them.(AU)

Integrative and Complementary Practices (PICs) are presented as supporting methods, helping to achieve success in certain clinical and/or surgical treatments, acting in prevention, assisting in healing and psychosomatic balance in order to reestablish agreement between mind and body. . The Federal Council of Dentistry (CFO) has regulated practices such as acupuncture, hypnosis, floral therapy and herbal medicine, however, their applicability depends on the issuance of a license and its proper registration with the Council (Resolution CFO 82/2008). For Dentistry, PICs provide new tools to provide comprehensive care to human beings. In this work, we propose to review the literature on PICs and Dentistry. This literature review was carried out by searching articles in the Scielo, PubMed and Scholar Google databases from 2000 to 2021. Articles were found on the following PICs working together with Dentistry: floral therapies, acupuncture, hypnodontics, ozone therapy , laser therapy, phytotherapy, homeopathy and anthroposophic dentistry. These practices are of great value, as they promote well-being without causing harm to the individual, presenting few or no side effects, allowing greater safety for patients, in addition to favoring the relationship between patient and dentist, optimizing working time in the dental office and reducing costs.

ABSTRACT The advances of modern medicine have allowed us to subspecialize in various areas, with great gain in multiple areas, but sometimes suffering from losing the perspective of the complete human being. Health and illness happen to a subject who is more than the sum of its parts. Liaison Psychiatry seeks to integrate the looks and overcome the "false split" of being. It manages to do it when the symptom starts in the psyche. Psychosomatic medicine emerges as an opportunity to do so when the symptom / illness originates in the body. I present the story of a pathient, who has a very frequent organic disease in our days, addressing the conventional view, and also adding the psychosomatic perspective. For this we use the tools of integrative medicine, specifically those of anthroposophic medicine and artistic therapy. The purpose of his presentation is to show this sight of how to approach these patients and their therapeutic accompaniment, which tries to reunify psyche-somatism as a form of healing of the Being. This approach proposes a concrete path, with a common sight and language, between various specialties, that allows to recover the place of center of the identity of the human being, as being subject to accompany in health and illness. I think this may have benefits in the morbidity and mortality of patients.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Lung cancer is the oncological disease with the highest mortality worldwide. Health-related quality of life is severely compromised in the majority of patients. While the efficacy of early palliative psychosocial therapy has been demonstrated in several recent studies, appropriate therapy modules could so far not be integrated into daily practice of care. Therefore, an additive multimodal treatment concept for oncological centers was drafted: the Additive anthroposophic integrative medicine Cancer Concept of Early supportive or Palliative lung cancer Treatment (ACCEPT®). PATIENTS AND METHODS: The first module consisted of a 3-month health education program, the second module was a concept of psychosocial interventions, and the third module was a supervised home training program. Between 2017 and 2018, 20 lung cancer patients (UICC IIIB/IV) were included and randomly assigned to treatment (n = 10) or a waiting control group (n = 10). The treatment group started ACCEPT® for 3 months immediately after diagnosis and received also standard oncological care (SOC) while the waiting control group received SOC only for 3 months, followed by ACCEPT® after this period. Health-related quality of life, disease management, disease-specific symptoms, and feasibility of the ACCEPT® were monitored at 4 time points. RESULTS: 7 out of 10 patients in the treatment group (3 dropped out) and 6 out of 10 in the waiting control group (4 died during the intervention) completed treatment. DISCUSSION/CONCLUSION: Lung cancer patients with high symptom load may benefit from ACCEPT®. The feasibility of this adjunctive therapy was demonstrated. The combination of SOC and ACCEPT® is feasible and applicable to a heterogeneous patient group and should be further evaluated with respect to efficacy and dosing.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: The aim of this article is to describe what needs to be considered in implementing care practices, in this case an integrative care program consisting of anthroposophic treatments, in an intensive care unit (ICU) of a teaching hospital. METHODS: We used a pediatric oncology department to implement an integrative care program. We conducted a qualitative study including participant observation and semi-structured interviews with parents, nurses, doctors, and therapists. Data analysis was based on a grounded theory approach and focused on the status quo of care in the ICU. RESULTS: The following factors needed to be considered: the structure of the ICU, communication and information dissemination, and time constraints. This led to the following components of the integrative care program: (1) a training plan in anthroposophic treatments for all nurses that was conducted by 2 trained anthroposophic nurses, and (2) the introduction of an integrative shift that was on top of regular care at the ICU and focused on delivery of integrative care to patients. CONCLUSION: To add new care components to an ICU, the existing context has to be considered. Time constraints and high workload are factors that need to be recognized. In this particular context, a highly flexible program was the solution.

RESUMO

Abstract Death and dying constantly provoke debates regarding boundaries, rules and disputes for the legitimacy of different meanings regarding processes of finalizing life. This article places special emphasis on conflicts between the therapeutic system of anthroposophy and biomedicine in Brazil. The reflections contained in the text are based on ethnographic research, carried out in multiple locations between 2012 and 2015, investigating concepts of cure in anthroposophy in three different communities: two in Brazil, and one in Switzerland. Over the course of this journey, our experience as ethnographers led us to reflect on death and dying among the Widows of Demétria, one of the anthroposophical communities in which we conducted our research. Demétria is a rural neighborhood located in the city of Botucatu, in the interior of São Paulo state. The community was first organized during the 1970s, and it consists mostly of women - both Europeans and Brazilians - who live together, sharing a lifestyle that reimagines the ethos of death as a part of the aesthetic project of Bildung, which differs significantly from the conception of the death process in biomedicine.

OBJECTIVE: The concept of integrative oncology (IO) comprising guideline-oriented standard and add-on complementary medicine has gained growing importance. The Anthroposophic-integrative Cancer Centre (CC) at the hospital Gemeinschaftskrankenhaus (GKH) in Berlin has been implementing IO concepts during recent years. Furthermore, it is a certified CC and has been annually audited by national cancer authorities since 2012. The objective of the present study was to evaluate IO concepts of the certified CC GKH. METHODS: Clinical, demographic, integrative treatment and follow-up data were analyzed between 2011 and 2016. In addition, CC GKH quality measures were compared with those of nationwide benchmarking CCs. RESULTS: Between 2011 and 2016, 2.382 primary cancer patients, median age 66 years, were treated at the CC GKH. 70.1% of the patients showed either Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) stage 0, I, II or III and 25.6% were in UICC stage IV. IO therapies included surgery (64.4% of patients), radiation (41.2%), and application of cytostatic drugs (53.9%), add-on mistletoe therapy (30.5%), and non-pharmacological interventions (87.3%). Regarding psycho-oncological support and quota of patient's enrollment in studies the CC GKH performs above nationwide benchmarks. Research outcomes including safety issues, clinical impact as well as patient's health-related quality of life are continuously evaluated and integrated into hospital's decision-management. CONCLUSION: This analysis reveals that IO concepts are applied to a high proportion of male and female primary cancer patients of all age groups, indicating a successful implementation at the certified CC GKH. Ongoing clinical evaluations have been initiated and cost-effectiveness comparisons are under analyses.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: So far, the effects of vibroacoustic music therapy in cancer patients are unknown. However, used in anthroposophic medicine, it could be an approach to enhance well-being. The goal of this study was to evaluate the immediate effects of a sound-bed music intervention with respect to the subjective well-being as well as body warmth and pain. PATIENTS AND METHODS: We treated 48 cancer patients with 10 min of sound-bed intervention in a cross-over design. Primary outcome was the total sum of the Basler Mood Questionnaire (BMQ), secondary outcomes were subscales of the BMQ and questions addressing body warmth and pain. The EORTC-QLQ C30 was used as baseline assessment for quality of life (QOL). RESULTS: Patients had lower QOL values than the EORTC reference samples (p < .001, d = 0.90). The primary outcome increased after music (p < .001, d = 0.47), no changes were seen in the control condition (p = .73, d = 0.04), the time by condition interaction was significant (p < .05). SECONDARY OUTCOMES: Increase after music for the BMQ subscales inner balance (p < .001, d = 0.73), vitality (p < .001, d = 0.51) and vigilance (p < .001, d = 0.37) as well as for the additional questions satisfaction (p < .001, d = 0.43), current mood (p < .001, d = 0.43), body warmth (p < .05, d = 0.44) and warmth distribution (p < .01, d = 0.49). No significant changes were seen in pain levels and social extroversion. CONCLUSION: Sound-bed intervention improved momentary well-being and caused self-perceived physiological changes associated with relaxation beyond the benefits of simple resting time (control condition). Thus, it might be a promising approach to improve well-being in cancer patients.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Colonic diverticula develop in at least 60% of elderly patients. Less than 25% of these develop diverticulitis. Recurrent episodes are experienced by about 13% of the symptomatic patients. The effect on prevention of recurrent diverticulitis of currently used therapies is controversial. Surgical colon resection is used in some patients in emergency or to prevent future episodes and complications. Carpellum Mali comp. (Juglans regia, Testa; Pirus malus, Carpellum) and Kalium aceticum comp. (Kalium carbonicum, Acetum vini destillatum, Antimonit, Crocus sativus, Spiritus e vino, Corallium rubrum) - preparations of Integrative Anthroposophic Medicine - have been used for at least 60 years to improve chronic abdominal pain and to treat obstipation, irritable bowel syndrome and colitis. CASE PRESENTATION: A 72-year-old retired physician presented in 2013 with a 7-year history of recurrent diverticulitis. During the first 6 years, three to four episodes each year required antibiotic therapy. In 2013 the episodes became more frequent, occurring approximately every 2 months. The patient was concerned about risks from repeated antibiotic treatment and the potential need for surgery. Oral Carpellum Mali comp. and subcutaneous Kalium aceticum comp. treatments were added to the therapy in March. The patient experienced improvement over 4 months without any symptoms. In the following 28 months she had 4 minor diverticulitis episodes, followed by 11-months without any flares; she reported no side effects in the 41-month follow-up period. CONCLUSION: Carpellum Mali comp. and Kalium aceticum comp. seem to have been helpful in the case presented here. Experiences with theses remedies in recurrent diverticulitis should be collected to determine whether it would be meaningful to carry out further investigations.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Integrative cancer care (ICC) is used by approximately 50% of cancer patients to complement oncologic treatments and to address unmet needs. One ICC practice is anthroposophic medicine, integrating conventional and complementary cancer care. It specifically provides mistletoe therapy (MT), but also intensive counselling, natural remedies, creative and movement therapies, nursing procedures, nutrition, and others. The objective of this study was to explore perceptions, themes, goals, procedures, and observations of experienced AM doctors with regard to the subjective dimensions of ICC. METHOD: A guideline-based qualitative interview study was conducted with 35 AM doctors working in hospitals and office-based practices in Germany and other countries. Structured qualitative content analysis was applied to examine the data. Triangulation was done with published studies investigating patients' perspectives on AM and MT. RESULTS: The interviewed doctors integrated conventional and holistic cancer concepts. Overarching therapeutic themes were: to enable patients to live with or overcome their disease, to find their own way through their disease, and to possibly reframe their situation. A broad variety of therapeutic goals were pursued, depending on the situation and priorities of the particular patient. Doctors described varying levels of patients' improved strength; increased vitality, thermal comfort, and recovery; relief from suffering, particularly in the areas of fatigue, appetite, sleep, pain, infections, and reactions to toxic anti-cancer therapies. The doctors also described how they perceived changes of patients' emotional level, their coping, autonomy, functional abilities, and finding their own way to deal with the disease. This is consistent with patients' perspectives described in published studies. CONCLUSION: Themes, goals, and described benefit of ICC from doctors' and patients' perspective may be an important complementation of conventional cancer care, as it meets important needs, distresses and conditions of patients which often stay unmet and unrelieved. Further research should investigate these goals and procedures.

We analyzed the scientific production, the advances, and the challenges for the implementation of Integrative and Complementary Practices (ICP) in Brazil. The study was done through an integrative review in the Virtual Health Library, selecting 68 articles. It was noted that the Southeast region continues as a scientific hub, and that most of the studies do not have a significant level of evidence. Over the years, there has been a small increase in the number of studies and greater evidence of the effectiveness and efficiency of ICP in several areas. However, problems related to poor professional training, bad management of the system, and concepts rooted in allopathic medicine remain, and hinder the expansion of ICP in Brazil.

RESUMO

Evolutionary theories are necessarily invoked for understanding cancer development at the level of species, at the level of cells and tissues, and for developing effective therapies. It is crucial to view cancer in a Darwinian light, where the differential survival of individual cells is based on heritable variations. In the process of this somatic evolution, multicellularity controls are overridden by cancer cells, which become increasingly autonomous. Ecological epigenetics also helps understand how rogue cells that have basically the same DNA as their normal cell counterpart overcome the tissue homeostasis. As we struggle to wrap our minds around the complexity of these phenomena, we apply often times anthropomorphic terms, such as subversion, hijacking, or hacking, to describe especially the most complex among them-the interaction of tumors with the immune system. In this commentary we highlight examples of the anthropomorphic thinking of cancer and try to put into context the relative meaning of terms and the mechanisms that are oftentimes invoked to justify those terms.

Recent research in the Social Sciences and Colective Health points to different forms in contemporary attitudes toward the act of giving birth. During a six-month period in 2013, we carried out an ethnographic study of anthroposophical healing in Demétria, a neighborhood in the city of Botucatu in Sao Paulo State, Brazil. In this paper we seek to draw reflections about the guidelines set out in Anthroposophy's romantic medicine as it applies to gestation and birth in a rural anthroposophical community and to the relationships established with biomedicine and with health services. Contact with mothers and pregnant women showed there to be an emotional grammar through which these women seek out physical purification and control of their bodies, as well as a religious silence when it comes to facing the pains of giving birth, as a form of showing courage. When they seek to access health services, expectations about the birth are found to be distant from the practices and conceptions of conventional medicine.(AU)

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: In recent decades the concept of integrative medicine has attracted growing interest in patients and professionals. At the Gemeinschaftskrankenhaus Havelhöhe (GKH), a hospital specialized in anthroposophical medicine, a breast cancer center (BCC) has been successfully certified for more than 5 years. The objective of the present study was to analyze how integrative strategies were implemented in the daily care of primary breast cancer patients. METHODS: Clinical, demographic, and follow-up data as well as information on non-pharmacological interventions were analyzed. In addition, BCC quality measures were compared with data of the National Breast Cancer Benchmarking Report 2016. RESULTS: Between 2011 and 2016, 741 primary breast cancer patients (median age 57.4 years) were treated at the GKH BCC. 91.5% of the patients showed Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) stage 0, I, II, or III and 8.2% were in UICC stage IV. 97% of the patients underwent surgery, 53% radiation, 38% had hormone therapy, and 25% received cytostatic drugs. 96% of the patients received non-pharmacological interventions and 32% received Viscum album L. THERAPY: Follow-up was performed in up to 93% of the patients 2 years after first diagnosis. Compared to nationwide benchmarking BCCs, the GKH BCC met the requirements in central items. CONCLUSIONS: The results of the present study show that integrative therapies offered by the concept of anthroposophical medicine can be implemented in the daily care and treatment of a certified BCC. However, as national guidelines on integrative concepts in oncology are missing, further studies are needed for a systematic evaluation of integrative treatment and care concepts in this field.

RESUMO

Potentized medicines include, according to the Brazilian legislation, homeopathic, anthroposophic, and antihomotoxic medicine and are regulated by the Brazilian Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA). Aim: This study aims to analyze and describe a profile of potentized medicines manufactured in Brazil, either registered or notified. Methodology: Information was obtained by data analysis related to ANVISA’s electronic medicine registration system. Results: The results, obtained as of September 2012, showed that 106 potentized medicines were registered and 519 were notified. Among the registered medicines, 92.0% were combined and 100.0% of the notified were simple medicines. For registered medicines, there were equivalent manufacturing scales among them, whereas for notified medicines, there was a predominance of centesimal scales. Active pharmaceutical ingredients (API’s) of vegetal origin were the most commonly used for potentized medicine manufacturing processes; the oral route was the most common form of administration. Potentized medicines manufacturing units are more often located in southeast region of Brazil. In addition, homeopathic medicines prevail as registered or notified medicines, followed by anthroposophic medicines. Conclusions: The results of the study are expected to be useful as reference material for ANVISA to improve its regulatory activity as well the industry sector and other stakeholders...
