RESUMO

With the continuous development of the economy and society, along with the sustained population growth, the issue of water resources carrying capacity in China has attracted increasing attention. This paper constructs a model for evaluating the provincial water resources carrying capacity in China from four dimensions: water, economy, society, and ecology. Utilizing this model, we analyze the spatiotemporal variations in water resources carrying capacity among 31 provinces in China from 2005 to 2021. Additionally, we delve into the coupling coordination and influencing factors of water resources carrying capacity. The study reveals an overall increasing trend in China's water resources carrying capacity index, with the ecological indicator exhibiting the most significant growth while the water resources sub-indicator lags behind. There are notable regional differences, with higher water resources carrying capacity observed in the eastern coastal areas and relatively lower capacity in the western regions. The ecological criterion becomes a core factor constraining water resources carrying capacity from 2005 to 2015, gradually giving way to the prominence of the social criterion since 2015. The coordination degree is relatively higher in the eastern regions, more scattered in the western regions, and relatively stable in the central regions. Based on the research findings, a series of recommendations are proposed, including strengthening environmental protection policies, optimizing water resources management mechanisms, improving water use efficiency, and promoting economic structural diversification. These suggestions aim to facilitate the sustainable development of water resources carrying capacity in China.

This work aims to evaluate the effects of the operation of Qinshan nuclear Power Plant (QNPP) on tritium (3H) and carbon-14 (14C) levels in seafood and assess the health risks caused by seafood consumption. Five kinds of seafood, including marine fish, prawn, razor clam, crabs, and seaweed, were collected from QNPP and the sea around Hangzhou Bay. The activity concentrations of tissue free water tritium (TFWT), organically bound tritium (OBT) and 14C were determined, respectively, and the annual intake and annual effective dose (AED) were calculated. The results showed that the TFWT, OBT, and 14C activity concentrations of the seafood in the surrounding area of QNPP ranged from 2.00 to 74.75 Bq/L, <1.04 to 19.68 Bq/L and 0.09 to 0.17 Bq/g·C, respectively. The TFWT, OBT, and 14C activity concentrations of the seafood in Hangzhou Bay ranged from 1.36 to 10.55 Bq/L, 1.08 to 6.78 Bq/L and 0.07 to 0.13 Bq/g·C, respectively. The differences were not statistically significant. The total AED from 3H and 14C due to the seafood consumption for the residents in the surrounding of QNPP and Hangzhou Bay were 1.96 × 10-4 and 1.61 × 10-4 mSv/year, respectively. The results showed that the operation of QNPP had no obvious effect on 3H and 14C accumulation in seafood, and the dose burden of population was low.

Hyperspectral imaging (HSI) has been applied to assess the texture profile analysis (TPA) of processed meat. However, whether the texture profiles of live fish muscle could be assessed using HSI has not been determined. In this study, we evaluated the texture profile of four muscle regions of live common carp by scanning the corresponding skin regions using HSI. We collected skin hyperspectral information from four regions of 387 scaled and live common carp. Eight texture indicators of the muscle corresponding to each skin region were measured. With the skin HSI of live common carp, six machine learning (ML) models were used to predict the muscle texture indicators. Backpropagation artificial neural network (BP-ANN), partial least-square regression (PLSR), and least-square support vector machine (LS-SVM) were identified as the optimal models for predicting the texture parameters of the dorsal (coefficients of determination for prediction (rp) ranged from 0.9191 to 0.9847, and the root-mean-square error for prediction ranged from 0.1070 to 0.3165), pectoral (rp ranged from 0.9033 to 0.9574, and RMSEP ranged from 0.2285 to 0.3930), abdominal (rp ranged from 0.9070 to 0.9776, and RMSEP ranged from 0.1649 to 0.3601), and gluteal (rp ranged from 0.8726 to 0.9768, and RMSEP ranged from 0.1804 to 0.3938) regions. The optimal ML models and skin HSI data were employed to generate visual prediction maps of TPA values in common carp muscles. These results demonstrated that skin HSI and the optimal models can be used to rapidly and accurately determine the texture qualities of different muscle regions in common carp.

The application of a noble-metal-based plasmon-enhanced substrate to detect low-concentration analytes has attracted extensive attention. Most of the substrates used in recently reported researches are based on two-dimensional structures. Hence, we prepared a higher efficiency Raman activity substrate with a filter paper structure, which not only provides more plasmonic "hot spots," but also facilitates analyte extraction and detection due to the flexibility of the paper. The preparation of the plasmonic paper substrate adopted centrifugation to deposit the alloy nanoparticles onto the paper base. The optimal particle deposition condition was found by adjusting the centrifugal force and centrifugation time. Then, the surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) performance of the substrate was enhanced by altering the plasmon resonance peak on the surface of the nanoparticles. The enhancement factor of this paper-based substrate was 1.55×107, with high detection uniformity (10-6 M, rhodamine 6G) and a low detection limit (10-11 M, rhodamine 6G). Then, we applied the SERS substrate to pesticide detection; the detection limit of the thiram reached 10-6 M. As a result, the simple and cost-effective paper-based SERS substrate obtained in this way has high detection performance for pesticides and can be used for rapid detection in the field, which is beneficial to food safety and environmental safety.

Temporal lobe epilepsy, a chronic disease of the brain characterized by degeneration of the hippocampus, has impaired risk assessment. Risk assessment is vital for survival in complex environments with potential threats. However, the underlying mechanisms remain largely unknown. The intricate balance of gene regulation and expression across different brain regions is related to the structure and function of specific neuron subtypes. In particular, excitation/inhibition imbalance caused by hyperexcitability of glutamatergic neurons and/or dysfunction of GABAergic neurons, have been implicated in epilepsy. First, we estimated the risk assessment (RA) by evaluating the behavior of mice in the center of the elevated plus maze, and found that the kainic acid-induced temporal lobe epilepsy mice were specifically impaired their RA. This experiment evaluated approach-RA, with a forthcoming approach to the open arm, and avoid-RA, with forthcoming avoidance of the open arm. Next, results from free-moving electrophysiological recordings showed that in the hippocampus, ∼7% of putative glutamatergic neurons and ∼15% of putative GABAergic neurons were preferentially responsive to either approach-risk assessment or avoid-risk assessment, respectively. In addition, ∼12% and ∼8% of dorsal lateral septum GABAergic neurons were preferentially responsive to approach-risk assessment and avoid-risk assessment, respectively. Notably, during the impaired approach-risk assessment, the favorably activated dorsal dentate gyrus and CA3 glutamatergic neurons increased (∼9%) and dorsal dentate gyrus and CA3 GABAergic neurons decreased (∼7%) in the temporal lobe epilepsy mice. Then, we used RNA sequencing and immunohistochemical staining to investigate which subtype of GABAergic neuron loss may contribute to excitation/inhibition imbalance. The results show that temporal lobe epilepsy mice exhibit significant neuronal loss and reorganization of neural networks. In particular, the dorsal dentate gyrus and CA3 somatostatin-positive neurons and dorsal lateral septum cholecystokinin-positive neurons are selectively vulnerable to damage after temporal lobe epilepsy. Optogenetic activation of the hippocampal glutamatergic neurons or chemogenetic inhibition of the hippocampal somatostatin neurons directly disrupts RA, suggesting that an excitation/inhibition imbalance in the dHPC dorsal lateral septum circuit results in the impairment of RA behavior. Taken together, this study provides insight into epilepsy and its comorbidity at different levels, including molecular, cell, neural circuit, and behavior, which are expected to decrease injury and premature mortality in patients with epilepsy.

BACKGROUND: The correlations between skilled nursing facility (SNF) admissions, number of hospitalizations, and informal caregiving hours received after adjusting for physical and cognitive function and sociodemographic covariates are not well understood. OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to better understand risk factors for SNF admissions and the interrelation with hospitalizations and amount of informal caregiving received, this study applied a novel joint modeling analysis to simultaneously explore the correlation and shared information between the 3 outcomes. RESEARCH DESIGN: This was an observational follow-up study. SUBJECTS: Data from 4836 older Americans included in the 2011-2015 rounds of the National Health and Aging Trends Study were linked with Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. MEASURES: We jointly modeled SNF admission, hospital admissions, and informal caregiving hours received while accounting for possible risk factors. We addressed missing values by multiple imputation with chained equations. RESULTS: SNF admission evidenced a strong positive correlation with hospital admission, and SNF admission evidenced a weak positive correlation with the informal caregiving hours received after adjustment for important risk factors. Non-Hispanic White race/ethnicity, living alone, not being Medicaid eligible, Alzheimer disease and related dementias diagnosis, activities of daily living disabilities, and frailty were associated with increased risk of SNF admissions and any/number of hospital admission. Lower educational level was also associated with the latter. Medicaid eligibility was the only factor not associated with any nor numbers of informal caregiving hours received. CONCLUSIONS: Sociodemographic and health factors were important for predicting SNF admissions. After adjustment for important risk factors, SNF evidenced a strong positive correlation with the number of hospitalizations and a weak positive correlation with the hours of informal caregiving received.

Objective.Extracellular electrophysiology has been widely applied to neural circuit dissections. However, long-term multiregional recording in free-moving mice remains a challenge. Low-cost and easy-fabrication of elaborate drivable electrodes is required for their prevalence.Approach.A three-layer nested construct (outside diameter, OD ∼ 1.80 mm, length ∼10 mm, <0.1 g) was recruited as a drivable component, which consisted of an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer heat-shrinkable tube, non-closed loop ceramic bushing, and stainless ferrule with a bulge twining silver wire. The supporting and working components were equipped with drivable components to be assembled into a drivable microwire electrode array with a nested structure (drivable MEANS). Two drivable microwire electrode arrays were independently implanted for chronic recording in different brain areas at respective angles. An optic fiber was easily loaded into the drivable MEANS to achieve optogenetic modulation and electrophysiological recording simultaneously.Main results.The drivable MEANS had lightweight (∼0.37 g), small (∼15 mm × 15 mm × 4 mm), and low cost (⩽$64.62). Two drivable MEANS were simultaneously implanted in mice, and high-quality electrophysiological recordings could be applied ⩾5 months after implantation in freely behaving animals. Electrophysiological recordings and analysis of the lateral septum (LS) and lateral hypothalamus in food-seeking behavior demonstrated that our drivable MEANS can be used to dissect the function of neural circuits. An optical fiber-integrated drivable MEANS (∼0.47 g) was used to stimulate and record LS neurons, which suggested that changes in working components can achieve more functions than electrophysiological recordings, such as optical stimulation, drug release, and calcium imaging.Significance.Drivable MEANS is an easily fabricated, lightweight drivable microwire electrode array for multiple-region electrophysiological recording in free-moving mice. Our design is likely to be a valuable platform for both current and prospective users, as well as for developers of multifunctional electrodes for free-moving mice.

BACKGROUND: Protection of privacy data published in the health care field is an important research field. The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) in the USA is the current legislation for privacy protection. However, the Institute of Medicine Committee on Health Research and the Privacy of Health Information recently concluded that HIPAA cannot adequately safeguard the privacy, while at the same time researchers cannot use the medical data for effective researches. Therefore, more effective privacy protection methods are urgently needed to ensure the security of released medical data. METHODS: Privacy protection methods based on clustering are the methods and algorithms to ensure that the published data remains useful and protected. In this paper, we first analyzed the importance of the key attributes of medical data in the social network. According to the attribute function and the main objective of privacy protection, the attribute information was divided into three categories. We then proposed an algorithm based on greedy clustering to group the data points according to the attributes and the connective information of the nodes in the published social network. Finally, we analyzed the loss of information during the procedure of clustering, and evaluated the proposed approach with respect to classification accuracy and information loss rates on a medical dataset. RESULTS: The associated social network of a medical dataset was analyzed for privacy preservation. We evaluated the values of generalization loss and structure loss for different values of k and a, i.e. [Formula: see text] = {3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 27, 30}, a = {0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8, 1}. The experimental results in our proposed approach showed that the generalization loss approached optimal when a = 1 and k = 21, and structure loss approached optimal when a = 0.4 and k = 3. CONCLUSION: We showed the importance of the attributes and the structure of the released health data in privacy preservation. Our method achieved better results of privacy preservation in social network by optimizing generalization loss and structure loss. The proposed method to evaluate loss obtained a balance between the data availability and the risk of privacy leakage.

Adenoid hypertrophy may lead to pediatric obstructive sleep apnea and mouth breathing. The routine screening of adenoid hypertrophy in dental practice is helpful for preventing relevant craniofacial and systemic consequences. The purpose of this study was to develop an automated assessment tool for adenoid hypertrophy based on artificial intelligence. A clinical dataset containing 581 lateral cephalograms was used to train the convolutional neural network (CNN). According to Fujioka's method for adenoid hypertrophy assessment, the regions of interest were defined with four keypoint landmarks. The adenoid ratio based on the four landmarks was used for adenoid hypertrophy assessment. Another dataset consisting of 160 patients' lateral cephalograms were used for evaluating the performance of the network. Diagnostic performance was evaluated with statistical analysis. The developed system exhibited high sensitivity (0.906, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.750-0.980), specificity (0.938, 95% CI: 0.881-0.973) and accuracy (0.919, 95% CI: 0.877-0.961) for adenoid hypertrophy assessment. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve was 0.987 (95% CI: 0.974-1.000). These results indicated the proposed assessment system is able to assess AH accurately. The CNN-incorporated system showed high accuracy and stability in the detection of adenoid hypertrophy from children' lateral cephalograms, implying the feasibility of automated adenoid hypertrophy screening utilizing a deep neural network model.

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the foveal avascular zone (FAZ) area in healthy volunteers using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) and identify factors that influence the FAZ. METHODS: This single-center cross-sectional study included 526 eyes of 263 healthy volunteers who underwent macular scanning by Zeiss OCTA. A linear mixed model was used to investigate the effects of systemic factors (age, sex, blood pressure, height, and weight) and ocular factors (intraocular pressure, biometric parameters, and central macular thickness) on FAZ. RESULTS: In total, 520 eyes of 262 healthy volunteers were included in the analysis. The mean volunteer age was 38.59 ± 22.03 years (range, 5-84 years); 124 volunteers were male (47.33%) and 138 volunteers were female (52.67%). The mean FAZ area was 0.30 ± 0.03 mm2 (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.29-0.31 mm2). Univariate analysis showed that FAZ area was associated with age (ß = 0.0011), anterior chamber depth (ß = -0.0513), and axial length (ß = -0.0202). Multivariate analysis showed that FAZ area was negatively correlated with axial length (ß = -0.0181). CONCLUSIONS: The mean FAZ area in healthy volunteers, measured using Zeiss OCTA, was 0.30 ± 0.03 mm2. Furthermore, FAZ area was negatively associated with axial length; this relationship should be considered in clinical practice.

It's vital to explore critical indicators when identifying potential pollution sources of urban rivers. However, the variations of urban river water qualities following temporal and spatial disturbances were highly local-dependent, further complicating the understanding of pollution emission laws. In order to understand the successional trajectory of water qualities of urban rivers and the underlying mechanisms controlling these dynamics at local scale, we collected daily monitoring data for 17 physical and chemical parameters from seven on-line monitoring stations in Nanfeihe River, Anhui, China, during the year 2018. The water quality at tributaries were similar, while that at main river was much different. A seasonal ''turning-back" pattern was observed in the water quality, which changed significantly from spring to summer but finally changed back in winter. This result was possibly regulated by seasonally-changed dissolved oxygen and water temperature. Linear mixed models showed that the site 2, with the highest loads of pollution, contributed the highest (ß = 0.316, P < 0.001) to the main river City Water Quality Index (CWQI) index, but site 5, the geographically nearest site to main river monitoring station, did not show significant effect. In contrast, site 5 but not site 2 contributed the highest (ß = 0.379, P < 0.001) to the main river water quality. Therefore, CWQI index was a better index than water quality to identify potential pollution sources with heavy loads of pollutants, despite temporal and spatial disturbances at local scales. These results highlight the role of aeration in water quality controlling of urban rivers, and emphasized the necessity to select proper index to accurately trace the latent pollution sources.

PURPOSE: Drug-resistant tuberculosis (DR-TB) remains a major global public health issue. For DR-TB patients, effective adaptation is crucial to prevent disease progression, improve health outcomes and decrease mortality. To date, there is no appropriate tool for evaluating the adaptation status of DR-TB patients. In this work, we aim to develop an adjustment scale for DR-TB patients (AS-DRTBP) and to evaluate its psychometric properties. PATIENTS AND METHODS: The development of the AS-DRTBP was based on the theory of the Roy adaptation model (RAM). The scale was designed through a literature review, in-depth individual interviews, a Delphi survey, and pilot testing. In total, 433 patients with DR-TB were recruited to validate the instrument. The split-half reliability coefficient, Cronbach's alpha coefficient, and test-retest reliability coefficient were calculated to assess the reliability of the instrument. Content validity, construct validity and concurrent validity tests were applied to calculate the validity of the instrument. RESULTS: The final AS-DRTBP consisted of four dimensions and 26 items. The Cronbach's alpha coefficient, split-half reliability coefficient and test-retest reliability coefficient were 0.893, 0.954, and 0.853, respectively. The content validity index was 0.92. Four factors that explained 64.605% of the total variance were also further determined by confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). The CFA results showed that the fitting effect of the model was appropriate (CMIN/DF = 1.681, GFI = 0.832, AGFI = 0.799, RMSEA = 0.055, SRMR = 0.0684). The AS-DRTBP and adjustment scale had correlation in the total score, and the correlation coefficient was 0.355 (p<0.05). CONCLUSION: The findings of this study demonstrate that the AS-DRTBP is a reliable and valid instrument for measuring the adaptation status of patients with DR-TB, allowing health providers to comprehend the adaptive level of DR-TB patients and thus laying the foundation for interventions to help these patients achieve a physiologically, psychologically and socially optimal outcome.

Under the new normal, the economic development mode and growth momentum of China has brought about fundamental changes, which means that the development of enterprises has gradually shifted from being factor-and investment-driven to being innovation-and talent-driven. As the foundation of corporate innovation, employee creativity plays an important role in this process. In the field of strategic human resource management, high-performance work system is the embodiment of its core competence. Although some research has begun to try to explore the impact of high-performance work system on employee creativity, the underlying mechanism and the boundary condition is not yet fully understood. According to the Job demands-resources (JD-R) model, this study theorized and examined whether and when high-performance work system stimulate employee creativity. Using a sample of large and medium-sized enterprises in China, we collected data, which are time-lagged and multilevel, from 266 employees in 61 departments. Results of the hierarchical linear model found that (1) High-performance work system is positively related to employee creativity; (2) High-performance work system positively affects employee work well-being; (3) Work well-being positively affects employee creativity; (4) Employee work well-being partially mediates the relationship between high-performance work system and creativity; (5) Transformational leadership, which represents an important contextual variable in the workplace, moderates the relationship between work well-being and employee creativity; (6) Moreover, we have also revealed that transformational leadership can moderate the indirect effect of high-performance work system on employee creativity. We discussed the theoretical and practical implications of these findings.

A novel low cost interconnected architecture (LCIA) is proposed in this paper, which is an efficient solution for the neuron interconnections for the hardware spiking neural networks (SNNs). It is based on an all-to-all connection that takes each paired input and output nodes of multi-layer SNNs as the source and destination of connections. The aim is to maintain an efficient routing performance under low hardware overhead. A Networks-on-Chip (NoC) router is proposed as the fundamental component of the LCIA, where an effective scheduler is designed to address the traffic challenge due to irregular spikes. The router can find requests rapidly, make the arbitration decision promptly, and provide equal services to different network traffic requests. Experimental results show that the LCIA can manage the intercommunication of the multi-layer neural networks efficiently and have a low hardware overhead which can maintain the scalability of hardware SNNs.

BACKGROUND: The purpose of this study was to document the prevalence of hepatitis C among MMT patients, hepatitis C virus (HCV) knowledge of patients and MMT staff members, and the barriers preventing them from receiving or delivering HCV-related services in MMT clinics of China. METHODS: Data were collected from 240 MMT patients and 58 staff members in Shanghai MMT clinics. Structured questionnaires (HCV Knowledge Scale and Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test) and several self-developed questionnaires were used to assess (1) patient and staff HCV knowledge, (2) attitudes toward HCV-related services in MMT clinics, and (3) what type of HCV-related services the staff members have provided in their routine work. The HCV test results were based on the patients' medical records. RESULTS: The HCV seropositive rate was high (70%), and both patients and staff had limited HCV knowledge. The mean score of patient HCV knowledge was 6.8 out of 20 (SD = 3.7), whereas the mean score of staff HCV knowledge was 10.9 out of 20 (SD = 3.1). For HCV-positive patients, only 13.7% had accessed HCV medical treatment. Barriers included the cost of medical treatment, lack of HCV knowledge, lack of professional training for patients to receive HCV-related services from individuals or MMT clinics, and lack of an adequate policy-making system. CONCLUSIONS: HCV infection remains an important problem among MMT patients in China. Barriers to HCV-related services are attributable to individual, clinical, and policy-related factors. This study may provide evidence-based information for future work to optimize the resources of MMT clinics. TRIAL REGISTRATION: ClinicalTrials.gov NCT01647191 . Registered 17 April 2012.

Nanoparticles (NPs) are increasingly used in food, and the toxicity of NPs following oral exposure should be carefully assessed to ensure the safety. Indeed, a number of studies have shown that oral exposure to NPs, especially solid NPs, may induce toxicological responses both in vivo and in vitro. However, most of the toxicological studies only used NPs for oral exposure, and the potential interaction between NPs and food components in real life was ignored. In this review, we summarized the relevant studies and suggested that the interaction between NPs and food components may exist by that 1) NPs directly affect nutrients absorption through disruption of microvilli or alteration in expression of nutrient transporter genes; 2) food components directly affect NP absorption through physico-chemical modification; 3) the presence of food components affect oxidative stress induced by NPs. All of these interactions may eventually enhance or reduce the toxicological responses induced by NPs following oral exposure. Studies only using NPs for oral exposure may therefore lead to misinterpretation and underestimation/overestimation of toxicity of NPs, and it is necessary to assess the synergistic effects of NPs in a complex system when considering the safety of NPs used in food.

A wash trade refers to the illegal activities of traders who utilize carefully designed limit orders to manually increase the trading volumes for creating a false impression of an active market. As one of the primary formats of market abuse, a wash trade can be extremely damaging to the proper functioning and integrity of capital markets. The existing work focuses on collusive clique detections based on certain assumptions of trading behaviors. Effective approaches for analyzing and detecting wash trade in a real-life market have yet to be developed. This paper analyzes and conceptualizes the basic structures of the trading collusion in a wash trade by using a directed graph of traders. A novel method is then proposed to detect the potential wash trade activities involved in a financial instrument by first recognizing the suspiciously matched orders and then further identifying the collusions among the traders who submit such orders. Both steps are formulated as a simplified form of the knapsack problem, which can be solved by dynamic programming approaches. The proposed approach is evaluated on seven stock data sets from the NASDAQ and the London Stock Exchange. The experimental results show that the proposed approach can effectively detect all primary wash trade scenarios across the selected data sets.

OBJECTIVE: Previous studies suggested that magnesium (Mg) might protect against atherosclerosis, but data were scarce in an Asian population. We examined the association of Mg levels in serum and urine with carotid intima-media thickness (cIMT) and serum lipids in Chinese adults. METHODS: This community-based cross-sectional study recruited 2,837 participants aged 40-75 years in Guangzhou, China. General information, lifestyle factors, serum and urinary concentrations of Mg and cardiometabolic factors were determined. The cIMTs of the common carotid artery (CCA) and the carotid bifurcation (BIF) were measured ultrasonographically. RESULTS: The mean (SD) concentration of serum Mg was 0.85 (0.07) mmol/L and median (IQR) for urinary Mg excretion was 2.29 (1.56-3.51) mmol/L. After adjustment for potential covariates, both serum and the urinary concentrations of Mg were inversely associated with CCA-IMT, but not with BIF-IMT. The regression coefficients (standard errors) were -100 (29) µm (total), -86 (34) µm (women) and -117 (52) µm (men) CCA-IMT per 1 mmol/L of serum Mg, and -41 (8) µm (total), -41 (10) µm (women) and -44 (15) µm (men) CCA-IMT per 1 unit of urinary Mg/creatinine (log mmol/mmol) (all p < 0.05), respectively. Higher serum Mg levels were associated with higher total cholesterol, HDLc, LDLc and triglyceride, but lower non-HDLc/HDLc in total population (all p < 0.05). Similar relationships of urinary Mg with lipoproteins were also found in total population (all p < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Higher levels of serum and urinary Mg are associated with lower CCA-IMTs, and the role of Mg in lipid metabolism needs further investigation.

Price manipulation refers to the activities of those traders who use carefully designed trading behaviors to manually push up or down the underlying equity prices for making profits. With increasing volumes and frequency of trading, price manipulation can be extremely damaging to the proper functioning and integrity of capital markets. The existing literature focuses on either empirical studies of market abuse cases or analysis of particular manipulation types based on certain assumptions. Effective approaches for analyzing and detecting price manipulation in real time are yet to be developed. This paper proposes a novel approach, called adaptive hidden Markov model with anomaly states (AHMMAS) for modeling and detecting price manipulation activities. Together with wavelet transformations and gradients as the feature extraction methods, the AHMMAS model caters to price manipulation detection and basic manipulation type recognition. The evaluation experiments conducted on seven stock tick data from NASDAQ and the London Stock Exchange and 10 simulated stock prices by stochastic differential equation show that the proposed AHMMAS model can effectively detect price manipulation patterns and outperforms the selected benchmark models.

AIM: To evaluate the performance of a novel non-invasive controlled attenuation parameter (CAP) to assess liver steatosis. METHODS: This was a multi-center prospective cohort study. Consecutive patients (aged ≥ 18 years) who had undergone percutaneous liver biopsy and CAP measurement were recruited from three Chinese liver centers. Steatosis was categorized as S0: < 5%; S1: 5%-33%; S2: 34%-66%; or S3: ≥ 67%, according to the nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) activity score. The FibroScan(®) 502 equipped with the M probe (Echosens, Paris, France) was used to capture both CAP and liver stiffness measurement values simultaneously. Receiver operating characteristic curves were plotted, and the areas under the curves were calculated to determine the diagnostic efficacy. The accuracy of the CAP values at the optimal thresholds was defined by maximizing the sum of sensitivity and specificity (maximum Youden index). RESULTS: A total of 152 patients were recruited, including 52 (34.2%) patients with NAFLD and 100 (65.8%) with chronic hepatitis B (CHB) virus infection. After adjustment, the steatosis grade (OR = 37.12; 95%CI: 21.63-52.60, P < 0.001) and body mass index (BMI, OR = 6.20; 95%CI: 2.92-9.48, P < 0.001) were found independently associated with CAP by multivariate linear regression analysis. CAP was not influenced by inflammation, fibrosis or aetiology. The median CAP values and interquartile ranges among patients with S0, S1, S2 and S3 steatosis were 211 (181-240) dB/m, 270 (253-305) dB/m, 330 (302-360) dB/m, and 346 (313-363) dB/m, respectively. The cut-offs for the CAP values in all patients with steatosis ≥ 5%, ≥ 34% and ≥ 67% were 253 dB/m, 285 dB/m and 310 dB/m, respectively. The areas under the curves were 0.92, 0.92 and 0.88 for steatosis ≥ 5%, ≥ 34% and ≥ 67%, respectively. No significant differences were found in the CAP values between the NAFLD group and the CHB group in each steatosis grade. CONCLUSION: CAP appears to be a promising tool for the non-invasive detection and quantification of hepatic steatosis, but is limited by BMI.
