RESUMO

The new summer index (SSI) which was established to determine climate comfort was classified according to the index. Climatic comfort areas will increase and thus raising the quality of living in areas. The temperature values felt in the study were calculated with the SSI formula, and then the maps of the study area were classified. The study area was the Hayal Park and its surroundings in the Toros Quarter of Cukurova District, which is surrounded by multi-story and dense buildings in the north of Adana. Although the vertical construction is very high, it is richer in terms of green areas compared to other large central districts. Cukurova, which is one of the largest districts of Adana (according to population), has Seyhan dam lake in the north and Seyhan district in the south. The study area is on the border of Seyhan district and is adjacent to Yüregir and Sariçam districts. With the portable Smart SENSOR AS 847 measuring device, temperature and relative humidity were measured at 1.5 m above the ground on Tuesday, August 20 at 07.00, at 14.00, and 21.00. Bioclimatic comfort areas were determined by measuring temperature and relative humidity at 25 points with different textures in the study area. In this study, measured instantaneous temperature (°C) and relative humidity (%) data were transferred to GIS medium by ArcGIS 10.6 program and then modeled with the Kriging method, which is one of the interpolation methods, and temperature and relative humidity maps were created. The temperature map created in degrees Celsius (°C) by the Kriging method and was converted to Fahrenheit degrees (°F) in the Raster Calculator. The reason for this change is that SSI is calculated with the formula Fahrenheit (°F). These maps were then calculated on the Raster Calculator using the SSI formula, and sensed temperature values were obtained The SSI, which normally has 8 classes, has 3 classes in the study area. These classes are 83 ≤ SSI < 91 slightly hot, 91 ≤ SSI < 100 hot, and 100 ≤ SSI < 112 very hot. When we look at the maps, the places outside of Hayal Park are in the hot class at 07.00 in the morning, and we can see that the green spaces have a positive effect on the bioclimatic comfort areas. The small area is in a very hot class. When we look at 14.00 h, it is a totally hot class. Normally, the temperature is the highest of these times and also coincides with the multi-story buildings in the study area; asphalt and concrete areas increased the temperature. As a result, there is a very hot air in the study area. It was determined that the maps identified non-comfortable areas. Since urban form and settlement affect climate comfort values, the urban plan should be revised, and the area should be brought to the bioclimatic comfort value range. For reducing the effect of temperature in the working area and creating comfortable areas is increasing the density of green areas compared to asphalt and concrete areas. Considering that the Cukurova district will grow further, urban planning should be done very well to reach the comfort range in the following settlements.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: In persons with multiple sclerosis, nerve conductivity can be reduced. The assessment is generally performed via motor evoked potentials (MEP). So far, a strongly associated motor performance surrogate for changes in the extracted central motor conduction time (CMCT) is missing. METHODS: CMCT and performance in the nine-hole peg test and maximum thumb tapping frequencies over 10 s of 12 persons with multiple sclerosis were measured prior to and after training over 5 consecutive days. Each training consisted of 10,000 thumb taps at maximum effort with the dominant upper limb. RESULTS: The dominant upper limb improved in maximum tapping frequency over 10 s (d = 0.79) and 10,000 taps (d = 1.04), the nine-hole peg test (d = 0.60), and CMCT (d = 0.52). The nondominant upper limb only improved in the nine-hole peg test (d = 0.38). Models of multiple linear regression predicted 0.78 (model 1, tapping performance as factors) and 0.87 (model 2, patient baseline characteristics as factors) of the variance in CMCT changes. DISCUSSION: Changes in CMCT were well predictable, although the assessment of those surrogates is either not economic (model 1) or rather describing a potential of change (model 2). However, we were able to show moderate changes in CMCT within 5 days.

RESUMO

Coastal areas all over the world are usually exposed to intensive change and transformation processes resulting in a variety of natural, physical, and socio-economic problems. Körfez province, located along the Izmit Bay of Marmara Sea, Turkey, has been one of these coastal areas that has become a major point for industrial facilities and highly populated urbanized area since 1960s. Therefore, the analysis of the spatial changes in the land use patterns of the province has a critical role in the success of the physical planning processes and the protection of the coastal areas. In order to highlight this critical role, temporal change detection analysis for Körfez province covering a 6-year period and 5 land use classes was made using 2009 and 2015 SPOT imagery and thematic maps. Reclassified CORINE data, development plans, and land survey results were benefited for the supervised classification of the images. Four hundred eighty control points for each year were used to achieve a strong accuracy tested by Kappa coefficient. The spatio-temporal change detection results revealed a 22.5% and 2.3% decrease in agricultural lands and sea areas respectively, while there was an increase of 16.6% in forest-green areas, 6.4% in settlement areas, and 74.1% in lake areas. The results are believed to be significant input data to facilitate coastal and physical development planning over the area, and thus make sustainable land use decisions to protect the delicate landscape and coastal characteristics, while providing a sound risk management plan.

RESUMO

Background/aim: Some electrocardiography (ECG) parameters such as Tp-e interval, Tp-e / QT ratio, fragmented QRS (fQRS), and heart rate variability (HRV) are related to cardiovascular mortality and morbidity. We aim to investigate the relation between premature ventricular contraction burden and these parameters on 24-h ECG recording. Materials and methods: The study is a retrospective investigation of the 24-h Holter ECG and echocardiography of 199 patients who underwent the procedures due to complaints of palpitation. A frequency of < 10% PVCs / 24 h was classified as seldom group (98 patients), while > 10% PVCs / 24 h was designated as frequent group (101 patients). Results: Tp-e interval was significantly longer (62 [5478] vs 75 [6084], p < 0.001), Tp-e / QT ratio was significantly increased (0.18 [0.160.20] vs 0.21 [0.180.22], p = 0.001) in frequent PVC group. The percentage of fQRS was significantly increased in frequent PVC group (30.6% vs 47.5%, p = 0.015). When the groups were compared, no significant difference was found in HRV time domain indices. Positive correlations were observed between PVC burden and Tp-e (r = 0.304, p < 0.001), Tp-e / QT (r = 0.275, p < 0.001). Conclusion: Our study showed that Tp-e interval, Tp-e / QT and fQRS are associated with frequency of PVCs. These measurements in patients with PVCs may form part of assessment of cardiovascular risk.

RESUMO

The social organization of the first fully sedentary societies that emerged during the Neolithic period in Southwest Asia remains enigmatic,1 mainly because material culture studies provide limited insight into this issue. However, because Neolithic Anatolian communities often buried their dead beneath domestic buildings,2 household composition and social structure can be studied through these human remains. Here, we describe genetic relatedness among co-burials associated with domestic buildings in Neolithic Anatolia using 59 ancient genomes, including 22 new genomes from Asikli Höyük and Çatalhöyük. We infer pedigree relationships by simultaneously analyzing multiple types of information, including autosomal and X chromosome kinship coefficients, maternal markers, and radiocarbon dating. In two early Neolithic villages dating to the 9th and 8th millennia BCE, Asikli Höyük and Boncuklu, we discover that siblings and parent-offspring pairings were frequent within domestic structures, which provides the first direct indication of close genetic relationships among co-burials. In contrast, in the 7th millennium BCE sites of Çatalhöyük and Barcin, where we study subadults interred within and around houses, we find close genetic relatives to be rare. Hence, genetic relatedness may not have played a major role in the choice of burial location at these latter two sites, at least for subadults. This supports the hypothesis that in Çatalhöyük,3-5 and possibly in some other Neolithic communities, domestic structures may have served as burial location for social units incorporating biologically unrelated individuals. Our results underscore the diversity of kin structures in Neolithic communities during this important phase of sociocultural development.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: In this study, our aim was to evaluate the glenoid version, height, and width measurements based on gender, side, age, height, and hand dominance in the Turkish population using computed tomography (CT) images. METHODS: In our study, CT images of 140 patients (62 females and 78 males; mean age: 39.6 years) who had no shoulder complaints were evaluated retrospectively. Glenoid version (GV), AP diameter (width), and SI diameter (height) on both shoulders were measured on the CT images. Correlations between patient gender, side, age, height, and hand dominance and the GV and size were evaluated. RESULTS: The right shoulder had a mean GV of -0.93 ± 7.80 degrees and the left shoulder had a GV of -0.88 ± 6.63 degrees (p > 0.05). The mean AP diameter of the glenoid was 26.57 ± 3.02 mm in the right shoulder and 26.33 ± 3.01 mm in the left shoulder (p > 0.05). The mean AP diameter of the glenoid was 26.57 ± 3.02 mm in the right shoulder and 26.33 ± 3.01 mm in the left shoulder (p > 0.05). The mean AP diameter of the glenoid was 26.57 ± 3.02 mm in the right shoulder and 26.33 ± 3.01 mm in the left shoulder (p > 0.05). The mean AP diameter of the glenoid was 26.57 ± 3.02 mm in the right shoulder and 26.33 ± 3.01 mm in the left shoulder (. CONCLUSION: Hand dominance had an effect on the glenoid version, while patient gender, age, and height had an effect on the glenoid size. The glenoid width in the Turkish population was similar to that of the European and American populations, and the glenoid height was similar to that of the Asian population. Our GV values were similar to those of the Asian population and more anteverted compared to the Western population. We believe that our findings will be useful in preoperative planning and in the production of implants for our population.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to assess the myocardial energy expenditure (MEE) in patients with cardiac syndrome X (CSX) and to examine its association with exercise electrocardiogram (ECG) parameters. METHODS: A total of 99 patients who underwent coronary angiography and who were diagnosed as having normal coronary arteries were included. The patients were divided into 2 groups based on symptoms and exercise ECG parameters: 56 CSX patients and 43 control patients with a negative stress test. MEE was calculated using transthoracic echocardiography-derived parameters: circumferential end-systolic stress, left ventricular ejection time, and stroke volume. RESULTS: In patients with CSX, the MEE at rest was 28% higher in than the control group (89.2±36.3 vs. 69.8±17.2 cal/minute). Correlation analysis revealed a moderately negative correlation between MEE and the Duke treadmill score (DTS) (ß:-0.456; p<0.001). Receiver operating characteristic analysis with a cut-off value of 74.6 cal/minute for MEE had a sensitivity of 78.1% and a specificity of 75.3% for the prediction of CSX (area under the curve: 0.872; p<0.001). An extra 1 calorie spent per minute at rest increased the likelihood of CSX by about 86% (odds ratio: 1.863). CONCLUSION: This study demonstrated that MEE was greater in CSX patients compared with a control group. Increased MEE was determined to be an independent predictor of CSX. DTS was inversely correlated with MEE. Increased MEE may have a crucial role in CSX pathophysiology.

RESUMO

In heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) patients, myocardial blood flow (MBF), myocardial energy expenditure (MEE), myocardial efficiency has been poorly evaluated because of the necessity of invasive procedures in the determination of these parameters. Transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) can provide reliable data for MEE, MBF (via coronary sinus (CS) flows). Also, myocardial efficiency can be evaluated by the MEE to MBF ratio. We aim to assess MBF, MEE and energy efficiency and the prognostic value of these parameters in HFrEF. In this prospective study, a total of 80 patients with HFrEF due to either ischemic or non-ischemic etiology and 20 healthy control subjects were included. Median follow-up duration was 901 (27-1004) days. MBF was calculated via coronary sinus blood flow. MEE was measured from circumferential end-systolic stress, stroke volume and left ventricular ejection time. MEE to MBF ratio was determined as MEf. Primary composite end-point (CEP) was cardiovascular mortality, heart transplantation or mechanical circulatory support. MEE and MEf were lower and MBF per minute was higher in HF group compared to control subjects whereas MBF per 100 g left ventricular mass was not different. MEE and MEf have significantly negative correlation with troponin I, BNP, uric acid and positive correlation with epicardial fat thickness. In Cox regression analysis, per one calorie decrease of MEE was associated 4.3 times increased risk [HR 4.396 (95% CI 1.230-15.716)] and per one percent decrease of MEf was associated 3.3 times increased risk of CEP [HR 3.343 (95% CI 1.025-10.905)]. Our study demonstrated that while MEE and MEf diminished in HFrEF, MBF preserved with the symptomatic progression of HF. MEE and MEf were found to be associated with important prognostic markers and independent predictors of CEP in HFrEF. Evaluation of MEE, MBF and MEf with echocardiography may provide an additional data regarding prognostic assessment of HFrEF population.

RESUMO

AIM: To determine the extent of Turkish junior male physicians' exposure to mobbing behavior and its correlation with physicians' characteristics. METHODS: The study included physicians recruited for compulsory military service in April 2009. No sampling method was used, questionnaires were delivered to all physicians, and 278 of 292 (95%) questionnaires were returned. We used Leymann Inventory of Psychological Terror including 45 items for data collection and structural equation model for data analysis. RESULTS: A total of 87.7% of physicians experienced mobbing behavior. Physicians who worked more than 40 hours a week, single physicians, physicians working in university hospitals and private hospitals, and physicians who did not have occupational commitment were more exposed to mobbing (P<0.05). Mobbing was not associated with specialty status, service period, age, and personality variables (P>0.05). All goodness-of- fit indices of the model were acceptable (χ(2)=1.449, normed fit index=0.955, Tucker Lewis index=0.980, comparative fit index=0.985, and root mean square error of approximation=0.040). CONCLUSIONS: Workplace mobbing is a critical problem for junior male physicians in Turkey. We suggest an introduction of a reporting system and education activities for physicians in high-risk groups.
