RESUMO
In order to reveal the pollution and risk level of phthalic acid esters (PAEs) in Qiandao Lake, six types of PAEs in 17 sampling points (in Qiandao Lake and its inflowing rivers) in dry and wet seasons were detected. The results showed that six types of PAEs were detected in both dry and wet seasons, with the concentrations of 0.98-5.33 µg·L-1 (average concentration 2.63 µg·L-1) in the dry season and 3.22-17.88 µg·L-1 (average concentration 7.99 µg·L-1) in the wet season. In terms of the detection rate and concentration of each monomer PAEs, DiBP, DBP, and DEHP were the main PAEs components in the water body. The measured value of DBP at 10 sampling points and its average mass concentration in the wet season were higher than the national standard (3 µg·L-1). Principal component analysis indicated that the main sources of PAEs were personal care products, plastics, and domestic waste. The pollution level of PAEs in Qiandao Lake was at a high level at home and abroad. The health risk assessment results in Qiandao Lake showed that the non-carcinogenic risk index of PAEs in the study area was less than 1, which would not produce non-carcinogenic risks to the human body. The carcinogenic risk index of children exceeded 10-6 at some points, indicating that it may pose carcinogenic risks to children, to which more attention should be paid.

BACKGROUND: Hybridization and introgression are common phenomena among oak species. These processes can be beneficial by introducing favorable genetic variants across species (adaptive introgression). Given that drought is an important stress, impacting physiological and morphological variation and limiting distributions, our goal was to identify drought-related genes that might exhibit patterns of introgression influenced by natural selection. Using RNAseq, we sequenced whole transcriptomes of 24 individuals from three oaks in southern California: (Quercus engelmannii, Quercus berberidifolia, Quercus cornelius-mulleri) and identified genetic variants to estimate admixture rates of all variants and those in drought genes. RESULTS: We found 398,042 variants across all loci and 4352 variants in 139 drought candidate genes. STRUCTURE analysis of all variants revealed the majority of our samples were assignable to a single species, but with several highly admixed individuals. When using drought-associated variants, the same individuals exhibited less admixture and their allele frequencies were more polarized between Engelmann and scrub oaks than when using the total gene set. These findings are consistent with the hypothesis that selection may act differently on functional genes, such as drought-associated genes, and point to candidate genes that are suggestive of divergent selection among species maintaining adaptive differences. For example, the drought genes that showed the strongest bias against engelmannii-fixed oak variants in scrub oaks were related to sugar transporter, coumarate-coA ligases, glutathione S-conjugation, and stress response. CONCLUSION: This pilot study illustrates that whole transcriptomes of individuals will provide useful data for identifying functional genes that contribute to adaptive divergence among hybridizing species.

Large-area Co(OH)2-based supercapacitor electrodes composed of nanotube arrays grown on a 3D nickel-foam (CONTA) electrode and sucker-like nanoporous films grown on a 3D nickel-foam (COSNP) electrode were prepared with a facile electrochemical method for applications in energy storage. These nanoporous Co(OH)2 electrodes were fabricated with the codeposition of Cu/Ni film on the nickel foam, then etching of Cu from the Cu/Ni layer to form Ni nanotube arrays and sucker-like Ni nanoporous layers, and further cathodic deposition of Co(OH)2 on the prepared nanoporous Ni substrates. The CONTA and COSNP electrodes exhibited specific capacitances of 2500 and 2900 F/g in a voltage range of 0.65 V (capacitance of the substrates deducted from the total) at 1 A/g in a three electrode cell, respectively. The COSNP electrode demonstrated an excellent supercapacitive performance with specific capacitances 1100 F/g at 1 A/g and 850 F/g at 20 A/g in a voltage range of 1.2 V in a two electrode cell. The remarkable performance of COSNP electrodes correlated with a large conversion of the Co oxidation state during the charge/discharge cycling were examined by in situ X-ray absorption near edge structure (XANES).
RESUMO
The occurrence, bleeding, and treatment of internal mammary artery (IMA) injury after blunt chest trauma have not been well described in the literature. We reviewed articles published from July 1977 to February 2014 describing IMA injury after blunt chest trauma in 49 patients. There was a predominant incidence in males and on the left side. Blunt trauma to the IMA can cause anterior mediastinal hematoma, hemothorax, pseudoaneurysm, arteriovenous fistula, and extra-pleural hematoma. Of the 49 patients studied, 20 underwent embolization, 22 underwent surgical operation, 4 were managed by clinical observation, and 3 had undescribed treatment. Different parts and extents of IMA injury, adjacent vein injury, as well as the integrity of the pleura determined differences in bleeding modality. Prompt diagnosis, complete hemostasis, aggressive resuscitation, and multidisciplinary teams are recommended for patients with IMA injury.
