BACKGROUND: Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a common postoperative complication in general thoracic surgery, but the incidence of patients undergoing surgery for bronchiectasis was not known. The purpose of our study was to investigate the incidence of VTE in bronchiectasis patients undergoing lung resection and to evaluate the risk stratification effect of the modified caprini risk assessment model (RAM). METHODS: We prospectively enrolled patients with bronchiectasis who underwent lung resection surgery between July 2016 and July 2020.The postoperative duplex lower-extremity ultrasonography or(and) computed tomographic pulmonary angiography (CTPA) was performed to detect VTE. The clinical characteristics and caprini scores of VTE patients and non-VTE patients would be compared and analyzed. Univariate logistic regression was performed to evaluate whether higher Caprini scores were associated with postoperative VTE risk.In addition, We explored the optimal cutoff for caprini score in patients with bronchiectasis by using the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. RESULTS: One hundred and seventeen patients were eligible based on the prospective study criteria. The postoperative VTE incidence was 8.5% (10/117). By comparing the clinical characteristics and Caprini scores of VTE and non-VTE patients, the median preoperative hospitalization (7 vs 5 days, P = 0.028) and Caprini score (6.5 vs 3,P < 0.001) were significantly higher in VTE patients. In univariate logistic regression, a higher Caprini score was associated with higher odds ratio (OR) for VTE of 1.7, 95% confidence interval (CI) was from 1.2 to 2.5 (P = 0.001), C-statistics was 0.815 in the modified caprini RAM for predicting VTE. In a multivariable analysis adjusting for preoperative hospitalization, a higher Caprini score was associated with higher odds OR for VTE of 1.8 (95%CI: 1.2-2.6, P = 0.002), C-statistics was 0.893 in the caprini RAM for predicting VTE. When taking the Caprini score as 5 points as the diagnostic threshold, the Youden index is the largest. CONCLUSIONS: The postoperative VTE incidence in patients undergoing lung resection for bronchiectasis was 8.5%.The modified caprini RAM effectively stratified bronchiectasis surgery patients for risk of VTE and showed excellent predictive power for VTE. The patients with postoperative caprini scores = 5, should be recommended to take positive measures to prevent postoperative VTE. With the development of digital agriculture, 3D reconstruction technology has been widely used to analyse crop phenotypes. To date, most research on 3D reconstruction of field crops has been limited to analysis of population characteristics. Therefore, in this study, we propose a method based on low-cost 3D reconstruction technology to analyse the phenotype development during the whole growth period. Based on the phenotypic parameters extracted from the 3D reconstruction model, we identified the "phenotypic fingerprint" of the relevant phenotypes throughout the whole growth period of soybean plants and completed analysis of the plant growth patterns using a logistic growth model. The phenotypic fingerprint showed that, before the R3 period, the growth of the five varieties was similar. After the R5 period, the differences among the five cultivars gradually increased. This result indicates that the phenotypic fingerprint can accurately reveal the patterns of phenotypic changes. The logistic growth model of soybean plants revealed the time points of maximum growth rate of the five soybean varieties, and this information can provide a basis for developing guidelines for water and fertiliser application to crops. These findings will provide effective guidance for breeding and field management of soybean and other crops.

Pre-surgical measurement of supraspinatus muscle extensibility is important for rotator cuff repair. The purpose of the present study was to explore the potential feasibility of a shear wave ultrasound elastography (SWE)-based method, combined with B-mode ultrasound, to measure the in vivo stiffness of the supraspinatus muscle non-invasively and thus obtain key information about supraspinatus muscle extensibility. Our investigation comprised two steps. First, we determined the orientation of the supraspinatus muscle fibers in cadaveric shoulders without rotator cuff tear in order to optimize the ultrasound probe positions for SWE imaging. Second, we investigated the feasibility of quantifying the stiffness of the normal supraspinatus muscle by SWE in vivo. The supraspinatus muscle was divided into four anatomical regions: anterior superficial (AS), posterior superficial (PS), anterior deep (AD), and posterior deep (PD). Each region was examined by SWE. The SWE stiffnesses of AD, AS, PD, and PS were 40.0 ± 12.4, 34.0 ± 9.9, 32.7 ± 12.7, 39.1 ± 15.7 kPa, respectively. SWE combined with B-Mode ultrasound imaging could be a feasible method for quantifying the local stiffness of the rotator cuff muscles.

Magnetic resonance elastography (MRE) is a noninvasive phase-contrast technique for estimating the mechanical properties of tissues by imaging propagating mechanical waves within the tissue. In this study, we hypothesize that changes in arterial wall stiffness, experimentally induced by formalin fixation, can be measured using MRE in ex vivo porcine aortas. In agreement with our hypothesis, the significant stiffness increase after sample fixation was clearly demonstrated by MRE and confirmed by mechanical testing. The results indicate that MRE can be used to examine the stiffness changes of the aorta. This study has provided evidence of the effectiveness of using MRE to directly assess the stiffness change in aortic wall. The results offer motivation to pursue MRE as a noninvasive method for the evaluation of arterial wall mechanical properties.
