RESUMO

The maturity of kiwifruit is widely gauged by its soluble solids content (SSC), with accurate assessment being essential to guarantee the fruit's quality. Hyperspectral imaging offers a non-destructive alternative to traditional destructive methods for SSC evaluation, though its efficacy is often hindered by the redundancy and external disturbances of spectral images. This study aims to enhance the accuracy of SSC predictions by employing feature engineering to meticulously select optimal spectral features and mitigate disturbance effects. We conducted a comprehensive investigation of four spectral pre-processing and nine spectral feature selection methods, as components of feature engineering, to determine their influence on the performance of a linear regression model based on ordinary least squares (OLS). Additionally, the stacking generalization technique was employed to amalgamate the strengths of the two most effective models derived from feature engineering. Our findings demonstrate a considerable improvement in SSC prediction accuracy post feature engineering. The most effective model, when considering both feature engineering and stacking generalization, achieved an RMSEp of 0.721, a MAPEp of 0.046, and an RPDp of 1.394 in the prediction set. The study confirms that feature engineering, especially the careful selection of spectral features, and the stacking generalization technique are instrumental in bolstering SSC prediction in kiwifruit. This advancement enhances the application of hyperspectral imaging for quality assessment, offering benefits that extend across the agricultural industry.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: We sought to understand the clinical effectiveness associated with use of hypomethylating agents (HMAs) azacitidine (AZA) and decitabine (DEC) for patients with refractory anemia with excess blasts (RAEB; an established proxy for higher-risk myelodysplastic syndromes/neoplasms) in contemporary and representative real-world settings. PATIENTS AND METHODS: We used the Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results (SEER)-Medicare database, a linkage of cancer registry and Medicare claims data, to identify patients aged ≥ 66 years diagnosed with RAEB, between 2009 and 2017 in the United States, and who received AZA or DEC as first-line therapy. Outcomes measured were overall survival (OS), event-free survival (EFS), and incidence of progression-related acute myeloid leukemia (AML). RESULTS: Of 973 eligible patients, 738 (75.8%) received AZA and 235 (24.2%) received DEC; 6.4% received hematopoietic cell transplantation during follow-up. In the overall population, median OS was 13.9 months (95% confidence interval [CI]: 12.9-15.0), median EFS was 5.2 months (95% CI: 4.9-5.7), and 38.0% of patients progressed to AML. Incidences of AML progression and death were 25.6% and 29.9%, respectively, at Year 1, and 34.3% and 44.8%, respectively, at Year 2. There were no significant differences in clinical benefits between AZA and DEC. CONCLUSION: Median OS with both HMAs remained significantly shorter than in the AZA-001 clinical trial, highlighting how patient outcomes vary between clinical and real-world settings. Further research is required to understand why these disparities exist.

RESUMO

Healthy lifestyle might alleviate the socioeconomic inequities in health, but the extent of the joint and interactive effects of these two factors on dementia are unclear. This study aimed to detect the joint and interactive associations of socioeconomic status (SES) and lifestyle factors with incident dementia risk, and the underlying brain imaging alterations. Cox proportional hazards analysis was performed to test the joint and interactive associations. Partial correlation analysis was performed to reflect the brain imaging alterations. A total of 276,730 participants with a mean age of 55.9 (±8.0) years old from UK biobank were included. Over 8.5 (±2.6) years of follow-up, 3013 participants were diagnosed with dementia. Participants with high SES and most healthy lifestyle had a significantly lower risk of incident dementia (HR=0.19, 95% CI=0.14 to 0.26, P<2×10-16), Alzheimer's disease (AD, HR=0.19, 95% CI=0.13 to 0.29, P=8.94×10-15), and vascular dementia (HR=0.24, 95% CI=0.12 to 0.48, P=7.57×10-05) compared with participants with low SES and an unhealthy lifestyle. Significant interactions were found between SES and lifestyle on dementia (P=0.002) and AD (P=0.001) risks; the association between lifestyle and dementia was stronger among those of high SES. The combination of high SES and healthy lifestyle was positively associated with higher volumes in brain regions vulnerable to dementia-related atrophy. These findings suggest that SES and lifestyle significantly interact and influence dementia with its related brain structure phenotypes.

RESUMO

The Jarzynski equality (JE), which connects the equilibrium free energy with nonequilibrium work statistics, plays a crucial role in quantum thermodynamics. Although practical quantum systems are usually multilevel systems, most tests of the JE were executed in two-level systems. A rigorous test of the JE by directly measuring the work distribution of a physical process in a high-dimensional quantum system remains elusive. Here, we report an experimental test of the JE in a single spin-1 system. We realized nondemolition projective measurement of this three-level system via cascading high-fidelity single-shot readouts and directly measured the work distribution utilizing the two-point measurement protocol. The validity of the JE was verified from the nonadiabatic to adiabatic zone and under different effective temperatures. Our work puts the JE on a solid experimental foundation and makes the nitrogen-vacancy (NV) center system a mature toolbox to perform advanced experiments of stochastic quantum thermodynamics.

RESUMO

Aiming to investigate the health risk impact of PM2.5 pollution on a heavily populated province of China. The exposure response function was used to assess the health risk of PM2.5 pollution. Results shows that the total number of premature deaths and diseases related to PM2.5 pollution in Shandong might reach 159.8 thousand people based on the new WHO (2021) standards. The health effects of PM2.5 pollution were more severe in men than in women. Five of the 16 cities in Shandong had higher health risks caused by PM2.5 pollution, including LinYi, HeZe, JiNing, JiNan, and WeiFang. PM2.5 pollution resulted in nearly 7.4 billions dollars in healthy economic cost, which accounted for 0.57% of GDP in Shandong in 2021. HeZe, LiaoCheng, ZaoZhuang, and LinYi were the cities where the health economic loss was more than 1% of the local GDP, accounted for 1.30, 1.26, 1.08, and 1.04%. Although the more rigorous assessment criteria, the baseline concentration was lowered by 30 µg/m3 compared to our previous study, there was no significant increase in health risks and economic losses. China's air quality improvement strategy may already be having a positive effect.

RESUMO

Reporter gene assays are essential for high-throughput analysis, such as drug screening or determining downstream signaling activation/inhibition. However, use of this technology has been hampered by the high cost of the substrate (e.g., d-Luciferin (d-Luc)) in the most common firefly luciferase (FLuc) reporter gene assay. Although alternate luciferase is available worldwide, its substrate has remained expensive, and a more affordable option is still in demand. Here, we present a membrane-tethered horseradish peroxidase (mHRP), a new reporter system composed of a cell membrane expressing HRP that can preserve its enzymatic function on the cell surface, facilitates contact with HRP substrates (e.g., ABTS and TMB), and avoids the cell lysis process and the use of the high-priced luciferase substrate. An evaluation of the light signal sensitivity of mHRP compared to FLuc showed that both had comparable signal sensitivity. We also identified an extended substrate half-life of more than 5-fold that of d-Luc. Of note, this strategy provided a more stable detection signal, and the cell lysis process is not mandatory. Furthermore, with this strategy, we decreased the total amount of time taken for analysis and increased the time of detection limit of the reporter assay. Pricing analysis showed a one-third to one twenty-eighth price drop per single test of reporter assay. Given the convenience and stability of the mHRP reporter system, we believe that our strategy is suitable for use as an alternative to the luciferase reporter assay.

RESUMO

Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is characterized by progressive muscle weakness and paralysis. Motor function is monitored in the clinical setting using assessments including the 32-item Motor Function Measure (MFM-32), but changes in disease severity between clinical visits may be missed. Digital health technologies may assist evaluation of disease severity by bridging gaps between clinical visits. We developed a smartphone sensor-based assessment suite, comprising nine tasks, to assess motor and muscle function in people with SMA. We used data from the risdiplam phase 2 JEWELFISH trial to assess the test-retest reliability and convergent validity of each task. In the first 6 weeks, 116 eligible participants completed assessments on a median of 6.3 days per week. Eight of the nine tasks demonstrated good or excellent test-retest reliability (intraclass correlation coefficients >0.75 and >0.9, respectively). Seven tasks showed a significant association (P < 0.05) with related clinical measures of motor function (individual items from the MFM-32 or Revised Upper Limb Module scales) and seven showed significant association (P < 0.05) with disease severity measured using the MFM-32 total score. This cross-sectional study supports the feasibility, reliability, and validity of using smartphone-based digital assessments to measure function in people living with SMA.

RESUMO

Objectives: To promote teamwork communication and collaboration between health-care professionals, educators emphasized proper training programs to develop interprofessional collaborative practice (IPCP) among postgraduate (PG) trainees. A literature review indicated that the faculty necessarily measured the competency in IPCP with structured and applicable assessment tools in collocation to training programs domestically. A cross-sectional psychometric study was conducted to construct a reliable assessment tool for measuring PG learning outcome in Taiwan through a bidirectional translation. The study aimed to assess the interprofessional team behavior of trainees using the Taiwanese version of the collaborative practice assessment tool (T-CPAT). Materials and Methods: The study recruited 43 participants to undergo a PG training program in a single institute and to complete T-CPAT. Data were analyzed using SPSS 22.0 software. We employed descriptive analysis of demographic variables. The validity of T-CPAT was analyzed by experts in different specialties and its availability was assessed by item-level analysis. Furthermore, the T-CPAT reliability was tested using Cronbach's α. Results: The average score was 305.2 (standard deviation = 38.08), and the expert validity of the T-CPAT was 0.96. In the item-level analysis, there were no failure items in T-CAPT. Cronbach's α reached 0.94 (95% confidence interval = 0.90-0.96). Conclusion: The study demonstrated good reliability and validity for the T-CPAT. Thus, the T-CPAT can be used to accurately measure and assess the competence of IPCP in PG trainees in general medicine in Taiwan. The results were deemed sufficient to provide faculties with related arrangements for future teaching plans.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: China's health system is challenged by complex health problems experienced by different population groups and caused by multiple diseases. This study examined the distribution of curative care expenditure (CCE) of medical institutions in Beijing using beneficiary characteristics such as residency, gender, age, and disease. Suggestions are presented for the development of health policies. METHODS: A total of 81 medical institutions with approximately 80 million patients in Beijing, China, were selected via a multistage stratified cluster random sampling approach. Based on this sample, the System of Health Accounts 2011 was used to estimate the CCE of medical institutions. RESULTS: The CCE of medical institutions in Beijing was ¥246.93 billion in 2019. The consumption of patients from other provinces was ¥60.04 billion, accounting for 24.13% of the total CCE. The CCE of female consumption (52.01%/¥128.42 billion) exceeded that of male consumption (47.99%/¥118.51 billion). Almost half of the CCE (45.62%/¥112.64 billion) was consumed by patients aged 60 or above. Adolescent patients up to an age of 14 (including those aged 14) mainly chose secondary or tertiary hospitals for treatment. Chronic non-communicable diseases accounted for the largest share of CCE consumption, with circulatory diseases accounting for the highest proportion. CONCLUSIONS: This study identified significant differences in CCE consumption in Beijing according to region, gender, age, and disease. Currently, the utilization of resources in medical institutions is not reasonable, and the hierarchical medical system is not sufficiently effective. Therefore, the government needs to optimize the allocation of resources according to the needs of different groups and rationalize the institutional process and functions.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Plasma neurofilament light (NfL), glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP), phosphorylated-tau (p-tau), and ß-amyloid (Aß) have emerged as promising markers in several neurodegenerative disorders, but whether they can be used as biomarkers in spinocerebellar ataxias (SCA) is yet to be determined. This study aimed to identify sensitive plasma markers for SCA and investigate their effectiveness in tracking ataxia severity, cognition, non-motor symptoms, and brain atrophy. METHODS: This observational study recruited consecutive participants from Huashan Hospital and the CABLE study from November 2019. Patients with SCA were genetically diagnosed, grouped according to the ataxia severity, and compared with healthy older individuals and patients with multiple system atrophy type C (MSA-C). Plasma NfL, GFAP, p-tau, and Aß levels were measured by Simoa in all participants. Analysis of covariance, Spearman correlation, and multivariable regression were used to explore candidate markers in SCA. RESULTS: A total of 190 participants (60 SCA, 56 MSA-C, and 74 healthy controls) were enrolled. Plasma NfL level increased early in the pre-ataxic stage of SCA (32.23 ± 3.07 vs. 11.41 ± 6.62 pg/mL in controls), was positively associated with the ataxia severity (r = 0.45, P = 0.005) and CAG repeat length (r = 0.51, P = 0.001), varied among the different SCA subtypes (39.57 ± 13.50 pg/mL in SCA3, which was higher than 28.17 ± 8.02 pg/mL in SCA2, 17.08 ± 6.78 pg/mL in SCA8, and 24.44 ± 18.97 pg/mL in rare SCAs; P < 0.05), and was associated with brainstem atrophy. NfL alone (area under the curve [AUC] 0.867) or combined with p-tau181 and Aß (AUC 0.929), showed excellent performance in discriminating SCA patients from controls. Plasma GFAP distinguished SCA from MSA-C with moderate accuracy (AUC > 0.700) and correlated with cognitive performance and cortical atrophy. Changes in levels of p-tau181 and Aß were observed in SCA patients compared to controls. They were both correlated with cognition, while Aß was also associated with non-motor symptoms, such as anxiety and depression. DISCUSSION: Plasma NfL may serve as a sensitive biomarker for SCA, and its level is elevated in the pre-ataxic stage. The different performance of NfL and GFAP indicates differences in the underlying neuropathology of SCA and MSA-C. Moreover, amyloid markers may be useful for detecting memory dysfunction and other non-motor symptoms in SCA.

RESUMO

In this study, a polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF)/graphene nanoplatelet (GNP) micro-nanocomposite membrane was fabricated through electrospinning technology and was employed in the fabrication of a fiber-reinforced polymer composite laminate. Some glass fibers were replaced with carbon fibers to serve as electrodes in the sensing layer, and the PVDF/GNP micro-nanocomposite membrane was embedded in the laminate to confer multifunctional piezoelectric self-sensing ability. The self-sensing composite laminate has both favorable mechanical properties and sensing ability. The effects of different concentrations of modified multiwalled carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and GNPs on the morphology of PVDF fibers and the ß-phase content of the membrane were investigated. PVDF fibers containing 0.05% GNPs were the most stable and had the highest relative ß-phase content; these fibers were embedded in glass fiber fabric to prepare the piezoelectric self-sensing composite laminate. To test the laminate's practical application, four-point bending and low-velocity impact tests were performed. The results revealed that when damage occurred during bending, the piezoelectric response changed, confirming that the piezoelectric self-sensing composite laminate has preliminary sensing performance. The low-velocity impact experiment revealed the effect of impact energy on sensing performance.

RESUMO

In the process of China's modernization, promoting the sustainable development of resource-based cities is a major strategic issue and it has now also become a worldwide issue. This study uses the coupling model to validate the coupling relationship between China's land-use net carbon flux and economic growth and population change during 2009-2017. The study for the first time draws the conclusion that the coupling degree among the three is getting lower, the correlation is gradually weaker, and the independent relationship is becoming more and more prominent. Utilizing the Tapio decoupling model, we obtained the weak decoupling conclusion that the economic growth rate is higher than the growth rate of the land-use net carbon flux, while negative decoupling of sprawl is where the rate of population growth is less than the rate of net land-use carbon flux growth.

RESUMO

Objectives: To curb the unreasonable growth of medical expenses and reduce the burden of medical treatment, Beijing launched two rounds of comprehensive reform of public hospitals. In the two reforms, the addition of drugs and consumables was canceled successively. This study compared the changes in the direct medical cost of inpatients with coronary heart disease (CHD) in the three stages of two comprehensive public hospital reforms in Beijing and provides data support for health reform policies. Setting: CHD diagnosis and treatment data were extracted from the Hospital Information System (HIS) of 33 public hospitals. The total amount and composition of the direct medical expenses of CHD inpatients in the three stages were calculated. Interrupted time series analysis was used to study the instantaneous changes and trend changes in the three stages. Participants: The data were obtained from the HIS system of 33 public hospitals above the second level in Beijing. A total of 66,647 medical and diagnosis records and 24,371,139 charge detail records were included. Results: After the two reforms, the total cost for CHD inpatients with most clinical classifications and treatment methods decreased. The proportion of drug and consumable costs decreased significantly, whereas the proportion of medical consultation service costs increased. Drug-treated patients were mainly affected by the instantaneous reforms, percutaneous coronary intervention-treated patients were simultaneously affected by instantaneous and trending effects, and coronary artery bypass graft-treated patients were mainly affected by the reform trend. Conclusion: The overall change in the direct medical cost of CHD inpatients was consistent with the goal of the comprehensive medical reform of public hospitals in Beijing, which is "total control and structural adjustment."

RESUMO

Objective: To explore the feasibility of single-breath-hold compressed sensing real-time cine imaging (CS-cine) in the assessment of ventricular function and left ventricular (LV) strain. Methods: A total of 70 subjects were enrolled prospectively, and all subjects underwent cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (cardiac MRI) using both the standard steady-state free procession cine (sta-cine) acquisition and a prototype CS-cine sequence. For both CS-cine and sta-cine imaging, continuous short-axis cine images were acquired from the base to the apex to cover the entire left ventricle, and long-axis cine images including two-, three-, and four-chamber views were also acquired. The scanning range, number of slices, slice thickness and intervals were kept identical for the two cine images of the same participant. Subjective evaluation of the image quality was performed on all cine images. For both sequences, the conventional function parameters of the left and the right ventricles and LV strain values were assessed with post-processing software analysis. The cine image quality, conventional ventricular function parameters, and LV strain values were compared between the two cine groups and the differences were examined. Inter- and intraobserver agreements for CS-cine images were measured using intraclass correlation coefficient ( ICC). Bland-Altman analysis was performed to assess reproducibility between the two cine methods. Results: The median scanning time of CS-cine was 21 s versus 272 s for sta-cine ( P<0.001). The median image quality scores of two groups were significantly different, 4 points for sta-cine and 2 points for CS-cine ( P<0.001). Bi-ventricular end-diastolic volumes (EDV), stroke volume (SV) and ejection fraction (EF) were significantly smaller in CS-cine ( P<0.001). Nevertheless, no significant differences between the two groups in bi-ventricular ESV or LV mass were observed ( P>0.05). LV strain parameters, including the peak radial strain, peak circumferential strain and peak longitudinal strain derived from LV mid-ventricular slice, were significantly different in the two sequences ( P<0.001). Moreover, CS-cine-derived functional parameters and strain measurements have a good correlation with those of sta-cine (for RV function parameters, and left ventricular PLS, PCS values, more than 95% points fell within the limits of agreement [ LoA]; meanwhile, more than 91% points fell within the LoA for other parameters) and inter- and intraobserver agreements were strong ( ICC=0.88 to 0.99) for CS-cine. Conclusion: CS-cine can well realize the rapid acquisition of cine images for quantitative analysis of cardiac function, and the conventional ventricular function parameters and LV globalized strain values obtained from CS-cine imaging have good reproducibility.

RESUMO

Background: Danhong injection (DHI) accounts for the highest proportion of drug costs for inpatients with coronary heart disease (CHD). However, if DHI price influences utilization remains unclear. Objective: The objective was to compare changes in the use of DHI for CHD patients during three stages after two comprehensive reforms of public hospitals in Beijing. These findings will provide support for controlling the drug burden of CHD patients and regulating drug use behavior. Research Design: CHD diagnosis and treatment data were extracted from the Hospital Information System (HIS) of 33 public hospitals. Patients were grouped according to different treatment methods and clinical classifications. Changes in the utilization of DHI, including the use rate (the percentage of CHD patients using DHI), number of prescribed units (average number of units of DHI prescribed per hospital stay), and cost of DHI per hospital stay (equal to the unit price multiplied by the number of prescribed units) between the three stages were statistically analyzed. Association rules were applied to identify changes in drug combinations. Results: After the two reforms, the unit price of DHI dropped from $6.46 to $5.61. At the same time, the use rate increased from 20.77 to 24.00%, the number of prescribed units dropped from 29.76 to 29.21, and the cost of DHI per hospital stay dropped from $192.12 to $163.96. The changes in the use rate and number of prescribed units varied among patients with different clinical types and treatment methods, and the cost of CHI per hospital stay was consistent with the overall situation. The variety of drugs used in combination with DHI remained relatively stable. Conclusion: The use rate of DHI for CHD patients increased, indicating increased applications of DHI in clinical practice. Due to the drop in price, the cost of using DHI decreased, and the financial burden of this drug was reduced.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Helicobacter pylori infection is mostly a family-based infectious disease. To facilitate its prevention and management, a national consensus meeting was held to review current evidence and propose strategies for population-wide and family-based H. pylori infection control and management to reduce the related disease burden. METHODS: Fifty-seven experts from 41 major universities and institutions in 20 provinces/regions of mainland China were invited to review evidence and modify statements using Delphi process and grading of recommendations assessment, development and evaluation system. The consensus level was defined as ≥80% for agreement on the proposed statements. RESULTS: Experts discussed and modified the original 23 statements on family-based H. pylori infection transmission, control and management, and reached consensus on 16 statements. The final report consists of three parts: (1) H. pylori infection and transmission among family members, (2) prevention and management of H. pylori infection in children and elderly people within households, and (3) strategies for prevention and management of H. pylori infection for family members. In addition to the 'test-and-treat' and 'screen-and-treat' strategies, this consensus also introduced a novel third 'family-based H. pylori infection control and management' strategy to prevent its intrafamilial transmission and development of related diseases. CONCLUSION: H. pylori is transmissible from person to person, and among family members. A family-based H. pylori prevention and eradication strategy would be a suitable approach to prevent its intra-familial transmission and related diseases. The notion and practice would be beneficial not only for Chinese residents but also valuable as a reference for other highly infected areas.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: To analyse the changes in curative care expenditure (CCE) associated with noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) before and after the Beijing healthcare reform, thus providing a reference for the healthcare system. METHODS: A total of 60 medical institutions were selected using multistage stratified cluster random sampling in Beijing, China. The records of approximately 100 million outpatients with NCDs in 2016-2018 were extracted. System of Health Accounts 2011 (SHA2011) was used to estimate the CCE. The segmented regression model was established to observe both the instant change and the slope change of intervention in interrupted time series analysis (ITSA). The study was conducted from December 2019 to May 2020 in Beijing, China. RESULTS: From SHA2011, we found that the CCE for outpatients with NCDs in Beijing were 58.59, 61.46 and 71.96 billion RMB in 2016, 2017 and 2018, respectively. The CCE continued to rise at all hospital levels, namely, tertiary, secondary, and community-level hospitals. However, the proportion of CCE in tertiary hospitals decreased. From ITSA, we can also conclude that the CCE showed a significant increasing trend change at the three hospital levels after the intervention. The drug proportion showed a significant decreasing trend change in secondary and tertiary hospitals. CONCLUSIONS: Beijing healthcare reform does have an impact on the CCE of NCDs.

RESUMO

A retrospective cohort study was conducted using claims data from Taiwan's National Health Insurance program to assess the effect of diabetic pay-for-performance (P4P) program on major adverse limb events (MALE) and major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). This study included patients with T2DM who had completed or not completed a 1-year P4P program from 2002 to 2013. Propensity-score matching was used to balance the baseline characteristics between groups. The Cox proportional-hazard model and Fine and Gray subdistribution hazard model were used to examine the association between P4P and the risks of MALE, MACE, systemic thromboembolism (ST), heart failure (HF) hospitalization, and all-cause mortality. Patients who underwent the P4P program had a significantly decreased incidence of MALE (2.0% vs. 2.6%, subdistribution hazard ratio [SHR] 0.73, 95% CI 0.71-0.76). Regarding the individual components, the P4P group demonstrated lower risks for foot ulcer (1.1% vs 1.3%, SHR 0.80, 95% CI 0.77-0.84), gangrene (0.57% vs 0.93%, SHR 0.59, 95% CI 0.56-0.63), percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (0.61% vs 0.79%, SHR 0.72, 95% CI 0.68-0.77), and amputation (0.46% vs 0.75%, SHR 0.58, 95% CI 0.55-0.62). In addition, the risks of MACE, ST, HF hospitalization, and all-cause mortality were remarkably lower in the P4P group. The P4P program might significantly reduce critical events of MALE, MACE, ST, HF, and mortality in the diabetic population.

RESUMO

Copper oxide particles of various sizes and constituent phases were used to form conductive circuits by means of photonic sintering. With the assistance of extremely low-energy-density xenon flash pulses (1.34 J/cm2), a mixture of nano/submicron copper oxide particles can be reduced in several seconds to form electrical conductive copper films or circuits exhibiting an average thickness of 6 µm without damaging the underlying polymeric substrate, which is quite unique compared to commercial nano-CuO inks whose sintered structure is usually 1 µm or less. A mixture of submicron/nano copper oxide particles with a weight ratio of 3:1 and increasing the fraction of Cu2O in the copper oxide both decrease the electrical resistivity of the reduced copper. Adding copper formate further improved the continuity of interconnects and, thereby, the electrical conductance. Exposure to three-pulse low-energy-density flashes yields an electrical resistivity of 64.6 µΩ·cm. This study not only shed the possibility to use heat-vulnerate polymers as substrate materials benefiting from extremely low-energy light sources, but also achieved photonic-sintered thick copper films through the adoption of submicron copper oxide particles.

RESUMO

Carbon utilization of bacterial communities is a key factor of the biomineralization process in limestone-rich curst areas. An efficient carbon catabolism of the microbial community is associated with the availability of carbon sources in such an ecological niche. As cave environments promote oligotrophic (carbon source stress) situations, the present study investigated the variations of different carbon substrate utilization patterns of soil and rock microbial communities between outside and inside cave environments in limestone-rich crust topography by Biolog EcoPlate™ assay and categorized their taxonomical structure and predicted functional metabolic pathways based on 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing. Community level physiological profiling (CLPP) analysis by Biolog EcoPlate™ assay revealed that microbes from outside of the cave were metabolically active and had higher carbon source utilization rate than the microbial community inside the cave. 16S rRNA amplicon sequence analysis demonstrated, among eight predominant bacterial phylum Planctomycetes, Proteobacteria, Cyanobacteria, and Nitrospirae were predominantly associated with outside-cave samples, whereas Acidobacteria, Actinobacteria, Chloroflexi, and Gemmatimonadetes were associated with inside-cave samples. Functional prediction showed bacterial communities both inside and outside of the cave were functionally involved in the metabolism of carbohydrates, amino acids, lipids, xenobiotic compounds, energy metabolism, and environmental information processing. However, the amino acid and carbohydrate metabolic pathways were predominantly linked to the outside-cave samples, while xenobiotic compounds, lipids, other amino acids, and energy metabolism were associated with inside-cave samples. Overall, a positive correlation was observed between Biolog EcoPlate™ assay carbon utilization and the abundance of functional metabolic pathways in this study.
