RESUMO

PURPOSE: To assess T1 mapping performance in distinguishing between benign and malignant breast lesions and to explore its correlation with histopathologic features in breast cancer. METHODS: This study prospectively enrolled 103 participants with a total of 108 lesions, including 25 benign and 83 malignant lesions. T1 mapping, diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI), and dynamic contrast-enhanced (DCE) were performed. Two radiologists independently outlined the ROIs and analyzed T1 and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values for each lesion, assessing interobserver reliability with the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC). T1 and ADC values were compared between benign and malignant lesions, across different histopathological characteristics (histological grades, estrogen, progesterone and HER2 receptors expression, Ki67, N status). Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis and Pearson correlation coefficient (ρ) were performed. RESULTS: T1 values showed statistically significant differences between benign and malignant groups (P < 0.001), with higher values in the malignant (1817.08 ms ± 126.64) compared to the benign group (1429.31 ms ± 167.66). In addition, T1 values significantly increased in the ER (-) group (P = 0.001). No significant differences were found in T1 values among HER2, Ki67, N status, and histological grades groups. Furthermore, T1 values exhibited a significant correlation (ρ) with ER (P < 0.01) and PR (P = 0.03). The AUC for T1 value in distinguishing benign from malignant lesions was 0.69 (95 % CI: 0.55 - 0.82, P = 0.005), and for evaluating ER status, it was 0.75 (95 % CI: 0.62 - 0.87, P = 0.002). CONCLUSIONS: T1 mapping holds the potential as an imaging biomarker to assist in the discrimination of benign and malignant breast lesions and assessing the ER expression status in breast cancer.

RESUMO

Tea polyphenols (TPs) are important secondary metabolites in tea and are active in the food and drug industry because of their rich biological activities. In diet and food production, TPs are often in contact with other food nutrients, affecting their respective physicochemical properties and functional activity. Therefore, the interaction between TPs and food nutrients is a very important topic. In this review, we describe the interactions between TPs and food nutrients such as proteins, polysaccharides, and lipids, highlight the forms of their interactions, and discuss the changes in structure, function, and activity resulting from their interactions.

RESUMO

Meteorological disaster is one of the main factors restricting agriculture development in China. It is important to clarify the risk of summer maize agrometeorological disaster for disaster prevention and mitigation. Based on the natural disaster risk theory, we collected meteorological data and maize yield data from 1981 to 2018 in a typical area in the northern mountainous area of Sichuan Basin (Wangcang County). The main disaster-causing factors affecting summer maize production were determined. A comprehensive agro-meteorological disaster risk assessment model for summer maize was constructed in combination with the sensitivity of pregnant environment and vulnerability of disaster bearing to evaluate the agrometeorological disasters risk of summer maize production in the northern mountainous area of Sichuan Basin. The results showed that during the study period, high temperature in mature period, rainstorm in flowering period, rainstorm in mature period, continuous rain in filling period and drought in booting stage were the main agrometeorological disasters affecting the growth and development of summer maize. The agrometeorological disaster risk of maize generally distributed in a southwest-northeast pattern, with the distribution areas of high-risk and higher-risk areas accounting for half of the total area of Wangcang County. The high-risk areas were mainly located in the southwest of the county, which was basically consistent with the high-value areas of hazard-pregnant environment sensitivity. The low-risk areas were mostly concentrated in the western part of county territory, which were also low-risk areas of high temperature in mature period, rainstorm in mature period, and rainstorm in flowering period disasters.

RESUMO

With the increase in extremely low birth weight (ELBW) infants, their outcome attracted worldwide attention. However, in China, the related studies are rare. The hospitalized records of ELBW infants discharged from twenty-six neonatal intensive care units in Guangdong Province of China during 2008-2017 were analyzed. A total of 2575 ELBW infants were enrolled and the overall survival rate was 55.11%. From 2008 to 2017, the number of ELBW infants increased rapidly from 91 to 466, and the survival rate improved steadily from 41.76% to 62.02%. Increased survival is closely related to birth weight (BW), regional economic development, and specialized hospital. The incidence of complications was neonatal respiratory distress syndrome (85.2%), oxygen dependency at 28 days (63.7%), retinopathy of prematurity (39.3%), intraventricular hemorrhage (29.4%), necrotizing enterocolitis (12.0%), and periventricular leukomalacia (8.0%). Among the 1156 nonsurvivors, 90.0% of infants died during the neonatal period (≤ 28 days). A total of 768 ELBW infants died after treatment withdrawal, for reasons of economic and/or poor outcome. The number of ELBW infants is increasing in Guangdong Province of China, and the overall survival rate is improving steadily.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: Although the clinical effect of dienogest for endometriosis after conservative surgery has been proven, the cost-effectiveness of this new pharmacotherapy remains to be determined. We aimed to assess the health economic implications of dienogest versus a gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist (GnRH-a; goserelin in the Chinese setting. METHODS: A decision tree model was developed to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of dienogest compared with a GnRH-a (goserelin) after conservative surgery for endometriosis during a 2-year time horizon from the perspective of a health care system in China. The cost of drugs, use of outpatient care facilities, administration of medications, routine laboratory work and imaging studies, and treatment of drug-related adverse events were considered. We obtained clinical efficacy data from the peer-reviewed literature. Base case findings were further tested with 1-way and probabilistic sensitivity analyses. FINDINGS: The model projects that treatment with dienogest would result in a modest incremental 0.02 quality-adjusted life-year gains compared with a GnRH-a (goserelin) (1.48 vs 1.46) at a cost saving of ¥7274 (¥22,809 vs ¥30,164). Probabilistic sensitivity analysis found that dienogest has a 100% probability of % being considered cost-effective compared with a GnRH-a (goserelin) at the willingness-to-pay threshold of 3 times the gross domestic product per capita (¥64,644 × 3) of China in 2018 (¥1 = US$0.1454 and €0.1248). IMPLICATIONS: Dienogest is more effective and cost-saving compared with a GnRH-a (goserelin) in the treatment of patients with endometriosis after conservative surgery in China.

RESUMO

The investigational NEDD8-activating enzyme inhibitor pevonedistat is being evaluated in combination with azacitidine versus single-agent azacitidine in patients with higher-risk myelodysplastic syndrome (higher-risk MDS), higher-risk chronic myelomonocytic leukemia (higher-risk CMML), or low-blast acute myeloid leukemia (AML) in a Phase 3 trial PANTHER. To support Asia-inclusive global development, we applied multiregional clinical trial (MRCT) principles of the International Conference on Harmonisation E17 guidelines by evaluating similarity in drug-related and disease-related intrinsic and extrinsic factors. A PubMed literature review (January 2000-November 2019) supported similarity in epidemiology of higher-risk MDS, AML, and CMML in Western and East Asian populations. Furthermore, the treatment of MDS/AML was similar in both East Asian and Western regions, with the same dose of azacitidine being the standard of care. Median overall survival in MDS following azacitidine treatment was generally comparable across regions, and the types and frequencies of molecular alterations in AML and MDS were comparable. Dose-escalation studies established the same maximum tolerated dose of pevonedistat in combination with azacitidine in Western and East Asian populations. Pevonedistat clearance was similar across races. Taken together, conservation of drug-related and disease-related intrinsic and extrinsic factors supported design of an Asia-inclusive Phase 3 trial and a pooled East Asian region. A sample size of ~ 30 East Asian patients (of ~ 450 randomized) was estimated as needed to demonstrate consistency in efficacy relative to the global population. This analysis is presented as an exemplar to illustrate application of clinical pharmacology and translational science principles in designing Asia-inclusive MRCTs. Study Highlights WHAT IS THE CURRENT KNOWLEDGE ON THE TOPIC? Azacitidine is the standard of care for myelodysplastic syndromes/low-blast acute myeloid leukemia (AML) across Western and East Asian patients. The first-in-class small-molecule inhibitor of NEDD8-activating enzyme, pevonedistat, has been investigated as a single agent in multiple studies of hematologic and nonhematologic malignancies and in combination with azacitidine in elderly patients with untreated AML. WHAT QUESTION DID THIS STUDY ADDRESS? By applying clinical pharmacology and translational science and International Conference on Harmonisation E17 principles, this study designed an East Asian-inclusive global pivotal Phase 3 trial of pevonedistat, taking into consideration drug-related and disease-related intrinsic and extrinsic factors. WHAT DOES THIS STUDY ADD TO OUR KNOWLEDGE? These analyses provide scientific rationale for Asia-inclusive globalization of the pivotal, Phase 3 PANTHER trial and for pooling clinical data across the East Asian region for assessing consistency in efficacy. HOW MIGHT THIS CHANGE CLINICAL PHARMACOLOGY OR TRANSLATIONAL SCIENCE? We developed a framework to facilitate efficient global clinical development of investigational therapies for rare cancers and orphan diseases in Asia-inclusive multiregional clinical trials.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Side effects of long-term acid suppression have increased the scholars' interest in nonpharmacologic intervention. AIMS: We summarized an umbrella review of the association between environmental factors and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and assessed their credibility. METHODS: We appraised systematic reviews and meta-analyses. For each meta-analysis, we considered the effect size, 95% confidence interval, the heterogeneity, small-study effects, P-value for excess significance and largest study significant, then we graded the evidence according to Assessment of Multiple Systematic Reviews and the GRADE assessment. RESULTS: 23 publications met the inclusion criteria (13 meta-analyses and 10 systematic reviews), which evaluated 24 environmental factors. Among observational studies, we identified 7 risk factors: overweight/obesity [GERD/erosive esophagitis (EE)/GERD symptom], central adiposity [EE], smoking [GERD], alcohol [GERD/EE/non-erosive reflux disease (NERD)], NSAID [GERD], coffee [EE], Helicobacter pylori eradication [EE], and 1 protective factor: physical activity [GERD], this was based on a suggestive evidence of credibility. Across intervention studies, we identified 1 risk factor-Helicobacter pylori eradication [GERD] and 1 protective factor-breathing exercises [GERD], evidence for both was low grade. CONCLUSIONS: We found varying levels of evidence for different environmental factors of GERD. None of them was proven to be convincing or highly recommended.

RESUMO

Seasonal and regional distributions of 17 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in surface waters from four different main water functional regions of the Baiyangdian Lake were analyzed through GC/MS/MS during spring and summer season. The aim was to identify their possible pollution sources and evaluate their health risk for human and ecotoxicological risk for aquatic organisms. Results showed that the range of total PAH concentration is 35.38-88.06 ng/L (average 46.57 ng/L) in spring and 25.64-301.41 ng/L (average 76.23 ng/L) in summer. PAH contamination was observed slightly lower in the summer season from the pollution characteristics of water bodies in most areas of the Baiyangdian Lake, and the levels of PAH pollution in the water body of urban residential regions and rural residential regions were relatively higher than those in tourist regions and low human disturbance regions. Source analysis based on diagnostic ratios confirmed that combustion sources and petroleum sources were two main sources for PAHs entering into the waters of the Baiyangdian Lake. Human health risk assessment showed that PAHs in surface waters from the Baiyangdian Lake will not cause a potential non-carcinogenic risk to local residents and the carcinogenic risk could mostly be accepted, but the potential lifetime carcinogenic risk for infants in rural residential regions should be concerned about. Urban residential regions and rural residential regions were subject to higher cumulative non-carcinogenic and carcinogenic risk when compared to the other functional regions. Ecotoxicological risk assessment found a moderate risk to aquatic organisms presented by individual PAH and a low risk by total PAHs, and PAHs in the water body of urban residential regions and rural residential regions also have relatively higher harm effects to aquatic organisms compared with the other two functional regions. This study revealed the pollution characteristics of PAHs and their possible sources in waters of the Baiyangdian Lake, clarified its correlation to regional anthropogenic activities, and provided corresponding risk management strategies for human and aquatic organisms.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Autologous chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cell therapy is a promising therapeutic strategy for treating hematologic malignancies. A spectrum of serious complications caused by CAR-T cells has caught great attention. We developed a novel CAR against CD19 namely UWC19, consisting anti-CD19 single-chain variable fragment (scFv) hinged with 4-1BB and CD3z signaling domains. In this study, preclinical assessments of UWC19 were conducted to evaluate the safety and efficacy in vitro and in vivo. METHODS: To evaluate the binding activity of UWC19 cells to CD19, we measured the saturation degree of CAR with human CD19 molecules using flow cytometry in vitro. The antitumor efficacy of UWC19 cells was determined by in vitro cytotoxicity assay against CD19 positive cells and in vivo using a xenograft mouse model. Cross tissue reactivity of UWC19 cells was examined by co-culturing with cell lines from difference human tissues. Tumorigenicity was determined by subcutaneously injecting UWC19 in immunodeficient mice. Persistence was analyzed using quantitative PCR. RESULTS: We showed that UWC19 CAR T cells exerted highly specific binding affinity and cytotoxicity against CD19+ cells in vitro. In vivo, UWC19 CAR T cells are able to fully control disease progression in a Raji-xenografted immunodeficient mouse model. UWC19 exerted no obvious effects on the mean body mass and graft versus host disease were observed in surviving mice. We showed that UWC19 cells specifically recognized and eliminated CD19 positive cells, whereas CD19 negative cells were much less affected. No tumorigenicity of UWC19 in immunodeficient mice was observed. CONCLUSIONS: UWC19 treatment effectively eliminated CD19 positive tumor cells with favorable toxicity profile. The findings suggest encouraging clinical prospects for its use in patients with CD19 positive B cell malignancies. Our study presented an alternative evaluation strategy for CAR-T cell products.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: This study evaluated the feasibility of different cervical cancer screening strategies in urban China. METHODS: A Markov model was constructed to simulate a hypothetical cohort of 100,000 females aged 30-59 years in a 20-year period. Screening strategies included liquid-based cytology (LBC) every three years, human papillomavirus (HPV) DNA testing every three and five years, respectively, and a combination of HPV DNA testing and LBC (HPV+LBC) every three and five years, respectively. Model outcomes included cumulative incidence over 20 years, cumulative risk of cervical cancer, costs, life year saved (LYS), quality-adjusted life years (QALYs) and benefits. The cost-effectiveness ratios (CERs), incremental cost-effectiveness ratios (ICERs), cost-utility ratios (CURs), and benefit-cost ratios (BCRs) were used as outcomes in the health economic evaluation analysis. Univariate sensitivity analyses were performed to examine the stability of the results. RESULTS: The cumulative incidence of the five screening strategies ranged from 833.02 to 1,158.07 cases per 100,000 females. HPV DNA testing was most effective in reducing the cumulative risk of cervical cancer, saving life years and QALYs and gaining benefits. The CERs of HPV DNA testing every three and five years, and LBC every three years were considered to be very cost-effective if they were below China's GDP per capita. The CERs of HPV+LBC were considered to be cost-effective if they were below three times GDP per capita. The incremental cost-effectiveness analysis showed that HPV DNA testing every three and five years, LBC every three years and HPV+LBC every five years were dominant strategies. CONCLUSIONS: The findings of this study indicated that HPV DNA testing every five years or LBC every three years should be recommended in urban China.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC), primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC), autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) and immunoglobulin G4 related cholangitis represent the major autoimmune liver diseases (AILD). However, the relationship between AILD incidence and socioeconomic development levels is yet to be explored. RESULTS: A total of 43 studies were included. There was a positive but not significant correlation between the PBC incidence and HDI on a global level (r=0.348, P=0.082). However, in Europe, a significantly positive correlation existed between the PBC incidence and HDI (r=0.455, P=0.044). No statistical correlation between PSC incidence and HDI was observed (r=0.116, P=0.706). The incidence of AIH revealed a positive correlation with the national HDI both globally (r=0.638, P=0.014) and in Europe (r=0.644, P=0.045). Moreover, the PBC incidence demonstrated a positive correlation with the health index (r=0.422, P=0.036), but a negative correlation with the education index (r= -0.650, P<0.01). Moreover, the income index presented a positive correlation with both the PSC incidence (r=0.599, P=0.031) and the AIH incidence (r=0.649, P=0.012). METHODS: PubMed was searched to identify relevant epidemiological studies on AILD. The human development index (HDI) was applied as an indicator for socioeconomic development. HDI data were obtained and calculated based on the 2014 Human Development Report. Pearson coefficient and linear regression analysis were conducted to estimate the correlation between incidence and HDI. CONCLUSIONS: There is positive association between the national incidence of AILD and the socioeconomic status, as measured by HDI. In less-developed countries, the incidence of AILD, especially PBC and AIH, might be less common.

RESUMO

The treatment efficacy of unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is still not promising. This study aimed to compare the efficacy and safety of radiofrequency ablation (RFA) combined with transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) for unresectable HCC with a single treatment.Between June 2009 and June 2012, 132 patients who were diagnosed with unresectable HCC and accepted nonsurgical treatments in our center were enrolled in this retrospective study. On the basis of treatment modality, they were allocated to 3 groups: 49 patients accepted RFA (RFA group); 43 patients accepted TACE (TACE group); and 40 patients accepted RFA following TACE (combination group). Clinical data including complications, treatment success rate, hospitalization costs, intrahepatic recurrence-free survival, overall survival, and factors influencing survival were retrospectively analyzed.Patient characteristics between these groups showed no significant difference. Treatment success was achieved in all patients of 3 groups. The combination group had a significantly higher total hospitalization cost to treatment than the TACE group (63,708.14 ±â€Š9193.81 Chinese yuan vs 37,534.88 ±â€Š6802.84 Chinese yuan; P = 0.0000). All complications were controllable and no permanent adverse sequelae or procedure-related deaths were observed. The 3-year intrahepatic recurrence-free survival probability was significantly better in the combination group than in the TACE group (42.50% vs 20.93%; hazard ratio [HR], 0.5105; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.3022-0.8625; P = 0.0094) or the RFA group (42.50% vs 22.45%; HR, 0.5233; 95% CI, 0.3149-0.8697; P = 0.0111).The 3-year overall survival probability was significantly better in the combination group than in the TACE group (45.00% vs 26.53%; HR, 0.5069; 95% CI, 0.2936-0.8752; P = 0.0100) or the RFA group (45.00% vs 27.91%; HR, 0.4913; 95% CI, 0.2928-0.8246; P = 0.0054). Main tumor size, number of tumors, and treatment modality were demonstrated to be important factors associated with 3-year intrahepatic recurrence-free survival probability and overall survival probability (P < 0.05) by univariate and multivariate analyses.Combination therapy of RFA and TACE was superior to TACE alone or RFA alone in improving survival for patients with unresectable HCC.

RESUMO

AIM: To investigate the relationship between the economy and the adult prevalence of fatty liver disease (FLD) in mainland China. METHODS: Literature searches on the PubMed and Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure databases were performed to identify eligible studies published before July 2014. Records were limited to cross-sectional surveys or baseline surveys of longitudinal studies that reported the adult prevalence of FLD and recruited subjects from the general population or community. The gross domestic product (GDP) per capita was chosen to assess the economic status. Multiple linear regression and Loess regression were chosen to fit the data and calculate the 95%CIs. Fitting and overfitting of the models were considered in choosing the appropriate models. RESULTS: There were 27 population-based surveys from 26 articles included in this study. The pooled mean prevalence of FLD in China was 16.73% (95%CI: 13.92%-19.53%). The prevalence of FLD was correlated with the GDP per capita and survey years in the country (adjusted R (2) = 0.8736, P GDP per capita = 0.00426, P years = 0.0000394), as well as in coastal areas (R (2) = 0.9196, P GDP per capita = 0.00241, P years = 0.00281). Furthermore, males [19.28% (95%CI: 15.68%-22.88%)] presented a higher prevalence than females [14.1% (95%CI: 11.42%-16.61%), P = 0.0071], especially in coastal areas [21.82 (95%CI: 17.94%-25.71%) vs 17.01% (95%CI: 14.30%-19.89%), P = 0.0157]. Finally, the prevalence was predicted to reach 20.21% in 2020, increasing at a rate of 0.594% per year. CONCLUSION: This study reveals a correlation between the economy and the prevalence of FLD in mainland China.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a growing health issue around the world. AIM: This study is to investigate whether adult prevalence of NAFLD correlates with national economic status. METHODS: Literature search on PubMed database was conducted to identify eligible records fully published before September 2014. Gross national income (GNI) per capita was chosen to evaluate national economic status. Pearson coefficient, linear regression, and unpaired t test were performed in the statistical analyses. RESULTS: Twenty-one population-based surveys (seven in East Asia, five in South Asia, three in Middle East, and six in Europe) were included. The pooled prevalence of NAFLD was 24.24%, and the global prevalence was positively correlated with GNI per capita (r = 0.4782, P = 0.0283). Europe witnessed a higher prevalence (28.04%) than Middle East (12.95%, P = 0.0092) and East Asia (19.24%, P = 0.0083). Male presented a higher prevalence than female (P = 0.019), especially in Europe (P = 0.0132) and in Caucasians (P = 0.0383). Furthermore, male prevalence and rural prevalence individually were correlated with economic status (r = 0.5725, P = 0.0257 and r = 0.7389, P = 0.0060). Lastly, the urban (23.93%) witnessed a higher prevalence than the rural or the urban + rural (12.65%, P = 0.0141) in the countries of GNI per capita <$10,000. CONCLUSIONS: This study suggested that countries with higher economic status tend to present a higher prevalence of NAFLD. It is believed to provide a distinctive epidemiologic perspective to global situation of NAFLD.

RESUMO

Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is an X-linked genetic disease, caused by the absence of the dystrophin protein. Although many novel therapies are under development for DMD, there is currently no cure and affected individuals are often confined to a wheelchair by their teens and die in their twenties/thirties. DMD is a rare disease (prevalence <5/10,000). Even the largest countries do not have enough affected patients to rigorously assess novel therapies, unravel genetic complexities, and determine patient outcomes. TREAT-NMD is a worldwide network for neuromuscular diseases that provides an infrastructure to support the delivery of promising new therapies for patients. The harmonized implementation of national and ultimately global patient registries has been central to the success of TREAT-NMD. For the DMD registries within TREAT-NMD, individual countries have chosen to collect patient information in the form of standardized patient registries to increase the overall patient population on which clinical outcomes and new technologies can be assessed. The registries comprise more than 13,500 patients from 31 different countries. Here, we describe how the TREAT-NMD national patient registries for DMD were established. We look at their continued growth and assess how successful they have been at fostering collaboration between academia, patient organizations, and industry.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Laparoscopic splenectomy (LS) shows many advantages compared with open surgery except for the high cost. This study was aimed to recommend secondary pedicle division strategy as a method with high cost-effectiveness. METHODS: From January 2003 to June 2005, 14 consecutive patients underwent laparoscopic splenectomy. The splenic pedicle was controlled by secondary pedicle division strategy in 8 cases and by Endo-GIA in the other 6 cases. A retrospective study was carried out to evaluate the operative time, blood loss, time to diet, operative morbidity, postoperative stay, and operative cost. RESULTS: LS was performed successfully in a total of 14 cases. There was no significant difference between the two strategies in operative time, blood loss, time to diet, operative morbidity and postoperative stay. The operative cost of secondary pedicle division strategy group (RMB 8354.38 +/- 752.10) was significantly lower than that of Endo-GIA group (RMB 11053.33 +/- 602.27) (P < 0.01). CONCLUSIONS: Laparoscopic splenectomy by secondary pedicle division strategy is a safe, effective and economical procedure with the value of popularization in developing countries.

RESUMO

Energy and related health issues are of growing concern worldwide today. To investigate the potential public health and economic impact of ambient air pollution under various low-carbon energy scenarios in Shanghai, we estimated the exposure level of Shanghai residents to air pollution under various planned scenarios, and assessed the public health impact using concentration-response functions derived from available epidemiologic studies. We then estimated the corresponding economic values of the health effects based on unit values for each health outcome. Our results show that ambient air pollution in relation to low-carbon energy scenarios could have a significant impact on the future health status of Shanghai residents, both in physical and monetary terms. Compared with the base case scenario, implementation of various low-carbon energy scenarios could prevent 2804-8249 and 9870-23,100 PM10-related avoidable deaths (mid-value) in 2010 and 2020, respectively. It could also decrease incidence of several relevant diseases. The corresponding economic benefits could reach 507.31-1492.33 and 2642.45-6192.11 million U.S. dollars (mid-value) in 2010 and 2020, respectively. These findings illustrate that a low-carbon energy policy will not only decrease the emission of greenhouse gases, but also play an active role in the reduction of air pollutant emissions, improvement of air quality, and promotion of public health. Our estimates can provide useful information to local decision-makers for further cost-benefit analysis.
