RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Aging has given birth to the demand for high-quality elderly care service and social organizations (ESOs) are gradually taking on a supportive role in the field of elderly care services.. In view of this, our study is designed to examine influencing factors of social capital within the elderly-caring social organizations. METHOD: The study was conducted in four districts of Chongqing Province and a multi-stage random sampling method was used to sample 80 ESOs as subjects for the research. Through a meticulously crafted questionnaire, we gathered valuable data on internal social capital, basic information about the organization, and other variables. Univariate and Binary Logistic Regression analysis were performed on the data to explore the factors associated with social capital within the elderly-caring social organizations using IBM SPSS version 26.0. RESULT: The results showed that 67(83.8%) OF ESOs surveyed were A-type institutions and 13(16.3%) B-type institutions. Among them, 49(61.3%) institutions covered an area of more than 50m2.The institutions of ≤ 2 years were 33(41.3%), 21(26.3%) were established for ≤ 3 ≤ 8 years, and residual 26(32.5%) were institutions ˃ 8 years old. ESOs that possessed 4-6 management employees were 52.422 times more likely to score high for social support (p<0.05, OR = 52.422). Accommodating special care objects and hiring 16-30 employees were significantly linked to the shared language and shared vision dimension (p<0.001, OR = 0.8) and (p<0.05, OR = 8.672), respectively. and the overall social capital dimension (p<0.01, OR = 0.221) (p<0.05, OR = 5.730). CONCLUSION: ESOs with different basic conditions have different amounts of social capital. Factors such as the presence of special care and volunteer staff, a certain number of full-time staff as well as types of services rendered are accompanied with the higher internal social capital of ESOs.

RESUMO

Background: Studies have confirmed that social factors, including social capital and eHealth literacy, are important in later life. Currently, few studies are available for determining the relationship between social capital and eHealth literacy, and whether such a relationship exists among older people and there are age and gender differences in the relationship remain unclear. Consequently, this study aimed to investigate the association between social capital and eHealth literacy, specifically examing its variations in age and gender. Methods: A cross-sectional study of 4,257 residents aged ≥ 60 years and dwelling in the community was conducted across four cities in China. A structured questionnaire was used to collect data on general characteristics, socioeconomic status, social capital, and eHealth literacy. Generalized linear models were employed to assess these associations. Results: There were 4,218 respondents (age 71.9 ± 7.2 years; 64.8% women). Overall, social participation, social connection, trust, cohesion, and reciprocity were all statistically associated with eHealth literacy (p < 0.05), while such an association was not observed for social support (p > 0.05). Specifically, a higher level of social participation was associated with better eHealth literacy scores among participants aged 70-79 years (p < 0.001), and a higher level of social connection was associated with better eHealth literacy scores for those aged 60-69 and 70-79 years (p < 0.001). Meanwhile, no gender differences in the associations were found. Conclusion: There is an association between social capital and eHealth literacy in older men and women. The association varis with age. The findings provide a reference for developing targeted measures to improve self-perceived eHealth literacy among older people. It is essential for achieving active and healthy aging and developing the knowledge and understanding of relevant theories, concepts, and evidence within the field of health and social capital.

RESUMO

Identification of potential targets for known bioactive compounds and novel synthetic analogs is of considerable significance. In silico target fishing (TF) has become an alternative strategy because of the expensive and laborious wet-lab experiments, explosive growth of bioactivity data and rapid development of high-throughput technologies. However, these TF methods are based on different algorithms, molecular representations and training datasets, which may lead to different results when predicting the same query molecules. This can be confusing for practitioners in practical applications. Therefore, this study systematically evaluated nine popular ligand-based TF methods based on target and ligand-target pair statistical strategies, which will help practitioners make choices among multiple TF methods. The evaluation results showed that SwissTargetPrediction was the best method to produce the most reliable predictions while enriching more targets. High-recall similarity ensemble approach (SEA) was able to find real targets for more compounds compared with other TF methods. Therefore, SwissTargetPrediction and SEA can be considered as primary selection methods in future studies. In addition, the results showed that k = 5 was the optimal number of experimental candidate targets. Finally, a novel ensemble TF method based on consensus voting is proposed to improve the prediction performance. The precision of the ensemble TF method outperforms the individual TF method, indicating that the ensemble TF method can more effectively identify real targets within a given top-k threshold. The results of this study can be used as a reference to guide practitioners in selecting the most effective methods in computational drug discovery.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Acoustic structure quantification (ASQ) has been applied to evaluate liver histologic changes by analyzing the speckle pattern seen on B-mode ultrasound. We aimed to assess the severity of portal hypertension (PHT) through hepatic ultrasonography. METHODS: Sixty patients diagnosed with PHT and underwent surgical treatment with portosystemic shunts were enrolled. Portal pressure (PP) was measured intraoperatively. Patients were divided into subgroups according to the severity of gastroesophageal varices and Child-Pugh class. Three difference ratio (Cm2) values on ASQ histogram mode were analyzed for their relationships with PP, degree of gastroesophageal varices and Child-Pugh liver function. Thirty healthy volunteers matched with the patients for gender and age were enrolled as controls. Comparisons among groups and correlation of the parameters with PP were analyzed. Area under the receive operating characteristic curve was used to evaluate the predicting value of ASQ parameters. RESULTS: In the patients, the ASQ parameters peak Cm2 (Cm2max), mean Cm2 (Cm2mean) and the highest occurred Cm2 value of the obtained red curve (RmaxCm2) were all greatly increased (P < 0.0001, P < 0.0001, P = 0.027). Multiple comparisons indicated that, regardless of Child-Pugh class and degree of gastroesophageal varices, the patients had significantly increased Cm2max and Cm2mean compared with the controls (all P < 0.0001). No differences among subgroups were observed. Cm2max was significantly statistically correlated with PP (r = 0.3505, P < 0.01), degree of varices (r = 0.4998, P < 0.0001). Youden's index for Cm2max with a cut-off value of 140.3 for predicting the presence of PHT, gastroesophageal varices and liver function equal to or worse than Child-Pugh class B were 0.8, 0.91 and 0.84, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: ASQ analysis of ultrasonographic images may have a role in the evaluation of the severity of PHT by detecting liver histologic changes in the speckle pattern caused by cirrhosis.

RESUMO

In our continuous search for antibacterial agents against Pseudomonas syringae pv. actinidiae (Psa) from kiwi-associated fungi, two pairs of epimeric cytochalasins, zopfiellasins A-D (1-4), were characterized from the fungus Zopfiella sp. The structures were established on the basis of spectroscopic data analysis, while the absolute configurations were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Compounds 1 and 3 exhibited antibacterial activity against Psa with MIC values of 25 and 50 µg/mL, respectively. This is the first report of anti-Psa activity of cytochalasin derivatives.

RESUMO

Seven highly oxidized steroids, taccachatrones A-G (1-7), together with four known taccalonolides (8-11), were characterized from the rhizomes of Tacca chantrieri. The structures of 1-7 were established on the basis of spectroscopic data analysis, while the absolute configurations were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Compounds 1-4 may be derived from taccalonolide derivatives by the degradation of three carbon atoms. Compounds 7, 8, 10, and 11 exhibited cytotoxicity to human cancer cell lines, indicating that the presence of a lactone moiety, as well as a double bond between C-22 and C-23, might play key roles in mediating their cytotoxicity.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To assess the defatting efficacy of high pressure washing and gradient alcohol and biomechanical properties of defatted bone. METHODS: Fresh cancellous bone was obtained from the femoral condyle and divided into six groups according to different defatting treatments, which were: high pressure washing for 10 s (10S group), 20 s (20S group), and 30 s (30S group), gradient alcohol immersion (Alcohol group), acetone immersion (Acetone group), and non-defatted (Fresh group). The appearance of six groups was observed, and the appearance of defatted bone and fresh bone was compared. The residual lipid content and infrared spectrum were used to compare the efficacy of defatting, the DNA content was used to compare the cell content after defatting, and the maximum stress and elastic modulus were used to compare the effects of defatting treatment on biomechanical properties. RESULTS: The fresh bone was yellow and the pores contained a lot of fat. The defatted bone was white and the porous network was clear. There was no difference in residual lipid content among the three groups with high pressure washing (1.45% ± 0.16%, 1.40% ± 0.13%, and 1.46% ± 0.11%, respectively) (P = 0.828). There was no difference in residual lipid content among the 10S, alcohol, and acetone groups (1.45% ± 0.16%, 1.28% ± 0.07%, and 1.13% ± 0.22%, respectively) (P = 0.125). Infrared spectra showed that the fat content of the five defatting groups was significantly lower than that of the fresh group. There was no difference in residual lipid content among the three groups with high pressure washing (4.53 ± 0.23 ug/mL, 4.61 ± 0.18 ug/mL, and 4.66 ± 0.25 ug/mL, respectively) (P = 0.645). There was no difference in residual lipid content among the 10S, alcohol, and acetone groups (4.53 ± 0.23 ug/mL, 4.29 ± 0.24 ug/mL, and 4.27 ± 0.29 ug/mL, respectively) (P = 0.247). The maximum stress of the bone decreased significantly with the increase of the washing time (9.95 ± 0.31 Mpa, 9.07 ± 0.45 Mpa, and 8.17 ± 0.35 Mpa, respectively) (P = 0.003). The elastic modulus of the bone decreased significantly with the increase of the washing time (116.40 ± 3.54 Mpa, 106.10 ± 5.29 Mpa, and 95.63 ± 4.08 Mpa, respectively) (P = 0.003). There was no statistical difference in the maximum stress between the fresh group, the 10S group, the alcohol group, and the acetone group (10.09 ± 0.67 Mpa, 9.95 ± 0.31 Mpa, 10.11 ± 0.07 Mpa, and 10.09 ± 0.39 Mpa, respectively) (P = 0.963). There was no statistical difference in the maximum stress between the fresh group, the 10S group, the alcohol group and the acetone group (119.93 ± 4.94 Mpa, 116.40 ± 3.54 Mpa, 118.27 ± 0.85 Mpa, 118.10 ± 4.52 Mpa, respectively) (P = 0.737). CONCLUSION: The defatting efficiency was satisfactory at a time of 10 s under high pressure washing. In terms of defatting efficiency and its effect on biomechanical properties of bone, high pressure washing and gradient alcohol were similar to conventional acetone solvent extraction defatting.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The inframammary fold (IMF) incision is widely used in Western countries for breast augmentation surgery, whereas the axillary incision is the dominant approach used in China, because many Chinese surgeons believe that the Asian population has a higher risk of developing hypertrophic scars. However, comparative data of scar assessment through different incisions in Chinese patients are scarce. The aims of the study were as follows: (1) to evaluate the outcomes of scar assessment using the Vancouver scar scale (VSS), combined with patient satisfaction scoring, in the scar assessment after breast augmentation surgery; (2) to compare the long-term cosmetic effects of surgical scars between axillary and IMF incisions. METHODS: Consecutive patients coming to our department for follow-up care at least 1 year after primary breast augmentation surgeries with axillary and IMF incisions between January 1, 2014 and December 31, 2014 were included in the research. Internal consistency, inter-rater reliability, and convergent validity were examined for the VSS and patient satisfaction scoring. The baseline characteristics and scar scores were tested using the Mann-Whitney U-test and Student's t test between the two groups. RESULTS: Sixty-one patients underwent implantation surgeries through the axillary incisions, and 17 patients through the IMF incisions. There were no significant differences in age, follow-up time, body mass index, implant volume, or implant projection between groups. Reliability and validity of the VSS and patient satisfaction scoring were satisfactory. The scores of pigmentation were higher in the IMF group than those in the axilla group with statistical significance (P < 0.05). The scores of other subscales, overall VSS scores, and patient satisfaction were not statistically significant. The scars were significantly longer in the axilla group compared with the IMF group (P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: The VSS combined with patient satisfaction scoring constitutes an effective tool to evaluate incision scars after augmentation mammaplasty. Scars in the axilla and IMF can achieve comparable cosmetic effects and patient satisfaction in Chinese women. Chinese patients with proper indications can receive breast augmentation surgery through the IMF incision, with fewer risks and less trauma, and get satisfactory scar appearance as through the axillary incision. RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To estimate the health and economic burdens of child maltreatment in China. METHODS: We did a systematic review for studies on child maltreatment in China using PubMed, Embase, PsycInfo, CINAHL-EBSCO, ERIC and the Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure databases. We did meta-analyses of studies that met inclusion criteria to estimate the prevalence of child neglect and child physical, emotional and sexual abuse. We used data from the 2010 global burden of disease estimates to calculate disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) lost as a result of child maltreatment. FINDINGS: From 68 studies we estimated that 26.6% of children under 18 years of age have suffered physical abuse, 19.6% emotional abuse, 8.7% sexual abuse and 26.0% neglect. We estimate that emotional abuse in childhood accounts for 26.3% of the DALYs lost because of mental disorders and 18.0% of those lost because of self-harm. Physical abuse in childhood accounts for 12.2% of DALYs lost because of depression, 17.0% of those lost to anxiety, 20.7% of those lost to problem drinking, 18.8% of those lost to illicit drug use and 18.3% of those lost to self-harm. The consequences of physical abuse of children costs China an estimated 0.84% of its gross domestic product - i.e. 50 billion United States dollars - in 2010. The corresponding losses attributable to emotional and sexual abuse in childhood were 0.47% and 0.39% of the gross domestic product, respectively. CONCLUSION: In China, child maltreatment is common and associated with large economic losses because many maltreated children suffer substantial psychological distress and might adopt behaviours that increase their risk of chronic disease.

RESUMO

Accumulating research suggests that rates of child sexual abuse are comparatively low in China. This commentary is an effort to evaluate whether it reflects a true lower prevalence or alternatively the effect of inhibited disclosure by victims. We conclude that while some estimates have almost certainly been affected by inhibited disclosure, the overall magnitude of the contrast between Chinese and international rates, particularly for girls, and its consistency with other indicators do suggest a true lower prevalence, although the evidence is equivocal. We discuss some factors that could account for such lower rates including Confucian family values, definitions of masculinity and a collectivist culture that may be protective.
