RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Intensive care unit (ICU) delirium is a common complication in older critically ill patients that has a significant impact. The Family Confusion Assessment Method (FAM-CAM) is a vital tool for assisting family members in identifying delirium; however, no study has yet been reported on the Chinese version of the scale. OBJECTIVES: The objective of this study was to translate the FAM-CAM into a Chinese version and to verify its effectiveness for delirium detection in an online patient visit setting. METHODS: This was a cross-sectional study. The FAM-CAM was translated to Chinese according to the International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research guidelines. Patients and family members were recruited to participate in delirium assessments in three ICUs of one hospital. Family members then used the Chinese version of the FAM-CAM to assess for delirium via online visitation, and ICU nurses assessed patients for delirium using the Intensive Care Delirium Screening Checklist (ICDSC). Results were then compared between family members' and nurses' assessments. RESULTS: Overall, 190 critically ill patients and 190 family members were included, of whom 117 (61.6%) were assessed for delirium using the Intensive Care Delirium Screening Checklist. The Cohen's kappa coefficient between the Intensive Care Delirium Screening Checklist and FAM-CAM was 0.759 (P < 0.01). The sensitivity of the Chinese version of the FAM-CAM was 0.880, specificity was 0.890, positive predictive value was 0.928, negative predictive value was 0.823, and area under the receiver operating characteristic curve was 0.881 (95% confidence interval: 0.872-0.935, P < 0.01). CONCLUSION: The Chinese version of the FAM-CAM was shown to effectively help families detect delirium and was suggested as a crucial tool for assisting ICU nurses in the early identification of delirium. This tool may effectively be used to assess delirium during online visits.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Economic stress can serve as a second hit for people who have already accumulated a history of adverse life experiences. How one recovers from a setback is a core feature of resilience but is seldom captured in animal studies. METHODS: We challenged mice in a novel 2-hit stress model by first exposing them to chronic social defeat stress and then testing adaptations to increasing reward scarcity on a neuroeconomic task. Mice were tested across months on the Restaurant Row task, during which they foraged daily for their primary source of food while on a limited time budget in a closed-economy system. An abrupt transition into a reward-scarce environment elicits an economic challenge, precipitating a drop in food intake and body weight to which mice must respond to survive. RESULTS: We found that mice with a history of social stress mounted a robust behavioral response to this economic challenge that was achieved through a complex redistribution of time allocation among competing opportunities. Interestingly, we found that mice with a history of social defeat displayed changes in the development of decision-making policies during the recovery process that are important not only for ensuring food security necessary for survival but also prioritizing subjective value and that these changes emerged only for certain types of choices. CONCLUSIONS: These findings indicate that an individual's capacity to recover from economic challenges depends on that person's prior history of stress and can affect multiple decision-making aspects of subjective well-being, thus highlighting a motivational balance that may be altered in stress-related disorders such as depression.

RESUMO

Under the goal of " carbon peaking and carbon neutrality," how to create a low-carbon and green development path for cities is an urgent problem in China. One of the effective ways to solve this problem is through industrial collaborative agglomeration. In this paper, panel data of 276 prefecture-level cities in China from 2010 to 2020 was selected to investigate the relationship between the collaborative agglomeration of manufacturing and producer service and carbon emission intensity by using a fixed-effects model, intermediary model, and SDM in multiple dimensions. The study found that the collaborative agglomeration of manufacturing and producer service industries significantly influences carbon emission intensity with an inverted U-shaped curve, and the agglomeration of manufacturing and producer service industries can influence carbon emission intensity through technological progress. In addition, the inverted U-shaped impact of collaborative agglomeration of manufacturing and producer services on carbon emission intensity has a spatial spillover effect, and the spatial spillover effect generated is stronger than the impact on the local area. Moreover, from the perspective of industry heterogeneity, compared with low-end producer services, the agglomeration of manufacturing and high-end producer services can play a better role in carbon emission reduction. Regarding regional heterogeneity, compared with the central and western regions, the impact of manufacturing and production services agglomeration on carbon intensity is far more obvious in the more economically developed eastern regions.

RESUMO

Programmable metasurfaces present significant capabilities in manipulating electromagnetic waves, making them a promising candidate for simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT), which has the potential to enable sustainable wireless communication in complex electromagnetic environments. However, challenges remain in terms of maximum power transmission distance and stable phase manipulation with high-power scattered waves. Additionally, waveform limitations restrict average scattered power and rectifier conversion efficiency, affecting data transmission rates and energy transmission distance. Here we show an amplifying programmable metasurface (APM) and a joint modulation method to address these challenges. The APM mitigates the peak-to-average power ratio and improves maximum power, phase response stability, average output power, and rectifier conversion efficiency. Through experimental validation, we demonstrate the feasibility of the SWIPT system, showcasing simultaneous LED array powering and movie video transmission. This innovative SWIPT system holds promise for diverse applications, including 6 G wireless communications, IoT, implanted devices, and cognitive radio networks.

RESUMO

To achieve high-quality development, it is crucial to encourage the coordinated development of new infrastructure (NI) and regional sustainability (RS). Based on the coupling mechanism of NI and RS, this study develops a comprehensive evaluation index system, coupling coordination degree model (CCDM), spatial autocorrelation model, and standard deviation ellipse model used to estimate the coupling coordination degree (CCD) of NI-RS in China mainland between 2013 and 2020 and analyze the temporal and spatial evolution characteristic. The results showed the following: (1) The NI index fluctuated and increased, while the RS index increased year by year, showing a gradient-decreasing distribution pattern from east to west; (2) CCD increases year by year, but the spatial distribution is unbalanced, and CCD in eastern coastal areas is significantly higher than that in western areas. (3) The CCD of NI and RS showed a significant spatial positive correlation, showing that the high-value cluster in the east and the low-value cluster in the west. (4) The standard deviation ellipse of the national CCD showed a northeast-southwest distribution, the center of gravity migrated to the southwest, and the spatial clustering characteristics were significant. (5) Finally, the GM (1,1) model indicates a steady increase in CCD from 2021 to 2025. Based on the location distribution and evolution of the CCD between NI and RS in China, corresponding policy suggestions are put forward.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: Qualitative and quantitative assessment of interventional performance is a vital component in the evaluation of endovascular surgery skill training. We established a custom simulator with qualitative and quantitative metrics for endovascular performance training. METHODS: The simulator included an in vitro silicone phantom, mock circulation loop, visual module, force-sensing module, and custom software for image and force data postprocessing. Two tasks to deliver the guidewire to the target location of the carotid artery were conducted by the expert (n=4), novice (n=6), and test (n=4) groups. Seven features with significant differences extracted from the expert and novice groups were applied for qualitative assessment using the support vector machine (SVM) and quantitative assessment using the Mahalanobis distance (MD). RESULTS: Significant differences were observed in kinematic and force data between experts and novices during the intervention procedure. The median value of finished time for task 1 was 26.88 seconds for experts and 63.36 seconds for novices. The maximum speed for experts and novices was 32.79 and 7.43 cm/s, respectively. Moreover, the classified results depicted that the accuracy of qualitative assessment for task 1 and task 2 was 96.67% and 90%, respectively. As for the quantitative data, the residents had higher scores than individuals majored in biomedical engineering at 2 tasks (70.06±5.30 vs 41.81±6.58 for task 1, p=0.001). CONCLUSIONS: The proposed endovascular intervention skill training simulator provides qualitative and quantitative metrics on intervention performance skills and may be a useful tool in future interventional surgical training. CLINICAL IMPACT: This simulator comprised an in-vitro silicone phantom, mock circulation loop, visual module, force-sensing module, and custom software for image and force data post-processing. Seven interventional performance features were used for qualitative assessment using the support vector machine and quantitative assessment using the Mahalanobis Distance. From the observations, we conclude that this endovascular intervention skill training simulator provides qualitative and quantitative metrics on intervention performance and may be a useful tool in future surgical training.

RESUMO

299Bioprinting offers a new approach to addressing the organ shortage crisis. Despite recent technological advances, insufficient printing resolution continues to be one of the reasons that impede the development of bioprinting. Normally, machine axes movement cannot be reliably used to predict material placement, and the printing path tends to deviate from the predetermined designed reference trajectory in varying degrees. Therefore, a computer vision-based method was proposed in this study to correct trajectory deviation and improve printing accuracy. The image algorithm calculated the deviation between the printed trajectory and the reference trajectory to generate an error vector. Furthermore, the axes trajectory was modified according to the normal vector approach in the second printing to compensate for the deviation error. The highest correction efficiency that could be achieved was 91%. More significantly, we discovered that the correction results, for the first time, were in a normal distribution instead of a random distribution.

RESUMO

Bioprinting is an emerging multidisciplinary technology for organ manufacturing, tissue repair, and drug screening. The manufacture of organs in a layer-by-layer manner is a characteristic of bioprinting technology, which can also determine the accuracy of constructs confined by the printing resolution. The lack of sufficient resolution will result in defect generation during the printing process and the inability to complete the manufacture of complex organs. A computer vision-based method is proposed in this study to detect the deviation of the printed helix from the reference trajectory and calculate the modified reference trajectory through error vector compensation. The new printing helix trajectory resulting from the modified reference trajectory error is significantly reduced compared with the original helix trajectory and the correction efficiency exceeded 90%.

RESUMO

Background: Intracranial cerebral atherosclerosis (ICAS) is a leading etiology of ischemic stroke. The diagnosis and assessment of intracranial stenosis are shifting from anatomic to hemodynamic for better risk stratification. However, the relationships between lesion geometry and translesional pressure gradient have not been clearly elucidated. Methods: Patients with symptomatic unifocal M1 middle cerebral artery (M1-MCA) stenosis were consecutively recruited. The translesional pressure gradient was measured with a pressure wire and was recorded as both mean distal/proximal pressure ratios (Pd/Pa) and translesional pressure difference (Pa-Pd). Lesion geometry measured on angiography was recorded as diameter stenosis, minimal lumen diameter, and lesion length. The correlations between pressure-derived and angiography-derived indices were then analyzed. Results: Forty-three patients were analyzed. A negative correlation was found between Pd/Pa and diameter stenosis (r = -0.371; p = 0.014) and between Pa - Pd and minimal lumen diameter (r = -0.507; p = 0.001). A positive correlation was found between Pd/Pa and minimal lumen diameter (r = 0.411; p = 0.006) and between Pa - Pd and diameter stenosis (r = 0.466; p = 0.002). Conclusions: In a highly selected ICAS subgroup, geometric indices derived from angiography correlate significantly with translesional pressure gradient indices. However, the correlation strength is weak-to-moderate, which implies that anatomic assessment could only partly reflect hemodynamic status. Translesional pressure gradient measured by pressure wire may serve as a more predictive marker of ICAS severity. More factors need to be identified in further studies.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Previous studies have reported that the use of a patch in carotid endarterectomy (CEA) surgery can reduce the rate of restenosis and perioperative complications. The goal of this study was to compare the short- and medium-term outcomes of endothelialization and neointimal hyperplasia of patch closure (PC) angioplasty in CEA with direct closure (DC) in a rabbit model. A bovine pericardial patch (BPP) was used in the PC procedures. METHODS: Two carotid arteries were dried by air flow to simulate endarterectomy and selected for PC and DC in each rabbit. Different animals were sacrificed at 1, 2, 3, 4, and 8 weeks after the procedure. The endarterectomized segments were extracted and examined microscopically with histopathological and immunohistochemical analysis, and electron-microscopy measurements. RESULTS: In all, 19 rabbits were included in this study; 3 rabbits were placed in a 2-week postoperative group and 4 rabbits were placed in the 1-, 3-, 4-, and 8-week postoperative group respectively. Hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining showed neointima on the PC side at an early stage (1-week postoperatively), and intimal hyperplasia could be seen on both sides. Immunohistochemical analysis showed that Ki-67 was higher on the PC side than on the DC side at an early stage (1,661.5±1,122.9 cells/mm2, P=0.060). In the 2-week postoperative group, von Willebrand factor (vWF) was higher on the DC side (-377.0±155.6 cells/mm2, P=0.052). Alpha-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA) values were comparable on both sides (P>0.05). Electron microscopy measurements showed that functional endothelial cells exhibited a cobblestone-like morphology and were nicely elongated in the direction of blood flow. CONCLUSIONS: The use of BPP in PC angioplasty during CEA can maintain stability and also provide rapid endothelialization. PC with BPP has comparable ability of efficient endothelialization with DC, but is more likely to have early endothelialization.

RESUMO

Cells interact with their environment by forming complex structures involving a multitude of proteins within assemblies in the plasma membrane. Despite the omnipresence of these assemblies, a number of questions about the correlations between the organisation of domains and the biomechanical properties of the involved proteins, namely their length, flexibility and affinity, as well as about the coupling to the elastic, fluctuating membrane, remain open. Here we address these issues by developing an effective Kinetic Monte Carlo simulation to model membrane adhesion. We apply this model to a typical experiment in which a cell binds to a functionalized solid supported bilayer and use two ligand-receptor pairs to study these couplings. We find that differences in affinity and length of proteins forming adhesive contacts result in several characteristic features in the calculated phase diagrams. One such feature is mixed states occurring even with proteins with length differences of 10 nm. Another feature are stable nanodomains with segregated proteins appearing on time scales of cell experiments, and for biologically relevant parameters. Furthermore, we show that macroscopic ring-like patterns can spontaneously form as a consequence of emergent protein fluxes. The capacity to form domains is captured by an order parameter that is founded on the virial coefficients for the membrane mediated interactions between bonds, which allow us to collapse all the data. These findings show that taking into account the role of the membrane allows us to recover a number of experimentally observed patterns. This is an important perspective in the context of explicit biological systems, which can now be studied in significant detail.

RESUMO

The construction industry has aided rapid urbanization in China, significantly contributing to CO2 emissions. However, few studies have investigated the impacts of urbanization on CO2 emissions from the construction industry and the regional heterogeneity or considered the construction-related factors for urban construction scale to represent urbanization. To compensate for these limitations, this study aimed to explore the impacts of urbanization on CO2 emissions from the construction industry. Herein, the urban construction scale was used to represent urbanization, along with population size, economic growth, and technology level. An augmented Stochastic Impacts by Regression on Population, Affluence, and Technology model was used to estimate the cross-province panel data from three regions in China during 2008-2017. The heterogeneity due to regional differences in urbanization levels was addressed by classifying China into three regions- urbanized, urbanizing, and under-urbanized. The findings suggest that population size, economic growth, construction of residential buildings, and technology level were the primary factors impacting CO2 emissions, and the impact presented a declining trend from the urbanized to the urbanizing and under-urbanized regions. Specifically, an inverted U-shaped relationship existed between CO2 emissions and urban economic growth, and the urbanized region indicated a higher inflection point than other regions. The urbanization ratio was negatively correlated with CO2 emissions, while the energy intensity, per capita floor space of urban residential buildings, and per capita length of drainpipes were positively correlated with the CO2 emissions in all three regions. Further, the technology level was conducive to CO2 emissions reduction, however, it requires further improvement. The per capita area of paved roads exerted significantly negative effects in the urbanized region and insignificant in the urbanizing and under-urbanized regions. Overall, these results can help formulate policies to mitigate the construction industry's carbon emissions.

RESUMO

The purpose of this work was to fractionate the complex exopolysaccharide (EPS) from a medicinal fungus Ophiocordyceps sinensis Cs-HK1 based on the molecular weight (MW) range and to assess the in vitro anti-inflammatory activity of different EPS fractions in THP-1 cell culture. The lower MW fraction (EPS-LM-1) showed a much higher anti-inflammatory activity. EPS-LM-1 was identified as a heteropolysaccharide consisting of mannose, glucose, and galactose residues with an average MW of 360 kDa. EPS-LM-1 significantly inhibited the lipopolysaccharide-induced inflammatory responses with the effective concentrations for 50% inhibition below 5 µg/mL on a few major proinflammatory markers. With such a notable in vitro anti-inflammatory activity, EPS-LM-1 is a promising candidate for the development of a new anti-inflammation therapy.

RESUMO

With the rapid global urbanization, the unlimited increasing transportation infrastructure has met the needs of urban expansion, but it has caused a series of ecological problems lacking consideration of ecological conservation. The land suitability assessment for supporting transport planning based on carrying capacity and demand for construction is an effective way to promote urban socioeconomic development and ecological conservation. Therefore, we constructed a logical framework of resources and environment supporting, traffic construction demand driving, and ecological protection red line and basic farmland constraining, and applied the analytic hierarchy process (AHP), GIS, three-dimensional magic cube method, and gravity model to evaluate the suitability of expressway development in Sichuan Province, China. The results showed that the spatial difference in the carrying capacity of resources and environment and the demand for expressway construction was relatively high in Sichuan, and those in eastern cities were even higher. The land suitability for supporting transport planning was relatively high, and the suitable areas with a grade from 8 to 10, accounted for 20.77% of the total study area, which could almost meet the demand for transportation infrastructure construction. The land suitability performed a circle structure with Chengdu as the core and gradually decreasing to the periphery. Overall, this study adds new insights to transport planning reform in other similar regions around the world and can provide important references for regional development planning and environmental protection.

RESUMO

Land use change has a significant impact on the structure and function of ecosystems, and the transformation of ecosystems affects the mode and efficiency of land use, which reflects a mutual interaction relationship. The prediction and simulation of future land use change can enhance the foresight of land use planning, which is of great significance to regional sustainable development. In this study, future land use changes are characterized under an ecological optimization scenario based on the grey prediction (1,1) model (GM) and a future land use simulation (FLUS) model. In addition, the ecosystem service value (ESV) of Anhui Province from 1995 to 2030 were estimated based on the revised estimation model. The results indicate the following details: (1) the FLUS model was used to simulate the land use layout of Anhui Province in 2018, where the overall accuracy of the simulation results is high, indicating that the FLUS model is applicable for simulating future land use change; (2) the spatial layout of land use types in Anhui Province is stable and the cultivated land has the highest proportion. The most significant characteristic of future land use change is that the area of cultivated land continues to decrease while the area of built-up land continues to expand; and (3) the ESV of Anhui Province is predicted to increase in the future. The regulating service is the largest ESV contributor, and water area is the land use type with the highest proportion of ESV. These findings provide reference for the formulation of sustainable development policies of the regional ecological environment.

RESUMO

The tumor-suppressive role of microRNA-216a-3p (miR-216a-3p) has been evidenced in multiple tumors. Yet, the relevance of miR-216a-3p in cervical cancer remains undermined. The current study was designed to determine the expression and potential function of miR-216a-3p in cervical cancer. Expression of miR-216a-3p was markedly decreased in cervical cancer and functional assays revealed an inhibitory effect of miR-216a-3p on the proliferation, colony formation, and invasion of cervical cancer. Actin-like 6A (ACTL6A) was identified as a target gene of miR-216a-3p. Elevated ACTL6A expression was detected in cervical cancer, and ACTL6A inhibition exhibited a tumor-suppressive effect. ACTL6A inhibition increased yes-associated protein (YAP) phosphorylation and downregulated YAP-mediated transcriptional activity. ACTL6A restoration or YAP reactivation partially abrogated the miR-216a-3p-mediated antitumor effect in cervical cancer cells. Taken together, these data demonstrate that miR-216a-3p acts as a potential tumor-suppressive miRNA in cervical cancer, which exerts its function through inhibition of YAP signaling via targeting ACTL6A.

RESUMO

Catch bond, whose lifetime increases with applied tensile force, can often mediate rolling adhesion of cells in a hydrodynamic environment. However, the mechanical mechanism governing the kinetics of rolling adhesion of cells through catch-bond under shear flow is not yet clear. In this study, a mechanical model is proposed for catch-bond-mediated cell adhesion in shear flow. The stochastic reaction of bond formation and dissociation is described as a Markovian process, whereas the dynamic motion of cells follows classical analytical mechanics. The steady state of cells significantly depends on the shear rate of flow. The upper and lower critical shear rates required for cell detachment and attachment are extracted, respectively. When the shear rate increases from the lower threshold to the upper threshold, cell rolling became slower and more regular, implying the flow-enhanced adhesion phenomenon. Our results suggest that this flow-enhanced stability of rolling adhesion is attributed to the competition between stochastic reactions of bonds and dynamics of cell rolling, instead of force lengthening the lifetime of catch bonds, thereby challenging the current view in understanding the mechanism behind this flow-enhanced adhesion phenomenon. Moreover, the loading history of flow defining bistability of cell adhesion in shear flow is predicted. These theoretical predictions are verified by Monte Carlo simulations and are related to the experimental observations reported in literature.

RESUMO

Urbanization-induced land-use change will lead to variations in the demand and supply of ecosystem services, thus significantly affecting regional ecosystem services. The continuous degradation of ecosystem functions has become a serious problem for humanity to solve. Therefore, quantitative analysis of the corresponding impact of land-use change on ecosystem service value (ESV) is important to socio-economic development and ecological protection. The Anhui province in China has experienced rapid urbanization in recent years, and ecological environmental remediation and protection have become important goals for regional development. In this paper, the province of Anhui has been selected as a case of study, we analyzed the land-use change using Landsat images from 2000, 2005, 2010, and 2015. We then adjusted the equivalent factor of ESV per unit area and estimated the ESV of Anhui province from 2000 to 2015 to analyze the impact of land-use change on ESV. Our results show that (1) paddy field is the main land-use type in Anhui province, the built-up land area has continuously increased, and the water area has continuously decreased; (2) the total ESV of Anhui province decreased from 30,015.58 × 107 CNY in 2000 to 29,683.74 × 107 CNY in 2015 (the rate of change was -1.11%), and regulating services make the greatest contribution to ESV; and (3) land-use change has led to severe ESV variations, especially for the expansion of water area and built-up land. Our study results provide useful insights for the development of land-use management and environmental protection policies in Anhui province.

RESUMO

Cell adhesion is crucial for immune response, tissue formation, and cell locomotion. The adhesion process is mediated by the specific binding of membrane-anchored receptor and ligand proteins. These adhesion proteins are in contact with the membranes and may generate curvature, which has been shown for a number of membrane proteins to play an important role in membrane remodeling. An important question remains of whether the local membrane curvatures induced by the adhesion proteins affect their binding. We've performed Monte Carlo simulations of a mesoscopic model for membrane adhesion via the specific binding of curvature-inducing receptors and ligands. We find that the curvatures induced by the adhesion proteins do affect their binding equilibrium constant. We presented a theory that takes into account the membrane deformations and protein-protein interactions due to the induced curvatures, and agrees quantitatively with our simulation results. Our study suggests that the ability to induce membrane curvatures represents a molecular property of the adhesion proteins and should be carefully considered in experimental characterization of the binding affinity.

RESUMO

Compared with the conventional building, the industrialized building (IB) promotes the sustainable development of the construction industry, which will become a growth trend in the future. Nevertheless, the progress of industrialized building is intimately affected through the scientific evaluating mechanism, which still requires more research. Thus, this study establishes a conceptual framework of industrialized building assessment (IBA), which is validated through exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). The impact between efficiency and the other five dimensions are studied by the structural equations model (SEM). The findings indicated that the conceptual framework is valid, and the efficiency has a positive impact on economic factors, livability, safety, environmental factors, and social benefits. Consequently, the improvement of efficiency has turned out to be the primary issue for improving the growth of the industrialized building. This research explores the basic framework of industrialized building assessment and provides a basis to establish a comprehensive and precise industrial building evaluation mechanism in the near future.
