RESUMO

We assess China's overall anthropogenic N2O emissions via the official guidebook published by Chinese government. Results show that China's overall anthropogenic N2O emissions in 2022 were around 1593.1 (1508.7-1680.7) GgN, about 47.0 %, 27.0 %, 13.4 %, 4.9 %, and 7.7 % of which were caused by agriculture, industry, energy utilization, wastewater, and indirect sources, respectively. Maximum reduction rate for N2O emissions from agriculture, industry, energy utilization, wastewater, and indirect sources can achieve 69 %, 99 %, 79 %, 86 %, and 48 %, respectively, in 2022. However, given current global scenarios with a rapidly changing population and geopolitical and energy tension, the emission reduction may not be fully fulfilled. Without compromising yields, China's theoretical minimum anthropogenic N2O emissions would be 600.6 (568.8-633.6) GgN. In terms of the economic costs for reducing one kg of N2O-N emissions, the price ranged from €12.9 to €81.1 for agriculture, from €0.08 to €0.16 for industry, and from €104.8 to €1571.5 for energy utilization. We acknowledge the emission reduction rates may not be completely realistic for large-scale application in China. The social benefits gained from reducing one kg of N2O-N emissions in China was about €5.2, indicating anthropogenic N2O emissions caused a loss 0.03 % of China's GDP, but only justifying reduction in industrial N2O emissions from the economic perspective. We perceive that the present monetized values will be trustworthy for at least three to five years, but later the numerical monetized values need to be considered in inflation and other currency-dependent conditions.

RESUMO

The aim of this research is to analyze the main influencing factors and relationship between atmospheric environment and economic society. Using the panel data of 18 cities in Henan Province from 2006 to 2020, this paper employed some advanced econometric estimation included entropy method, extended environmental Kuznets curve (EKC) and STIRPAT model to conduct empirical estimations. The results show that most regions in Henan Province have verified the existence of the EKC hypothesis; and the peak of air pollution level in all cities of Henan Province generally occurred in around 2014. Multiple linear Ridge regression indicated that the positive driving forces of air pollution in most cities in Henan Province are industrial structure and population size; the negative driving forces are urbanization level, technical level and greening degree. Finally, we used the grey GM (1, 1) model to predict the atmospheric environment of Henan Province in 2025, 2030, 2035 and 2040. What should pay close attention to is that air pollution levels in northeastern and central Henan Province will continue to remain high.

RESUMO

Because of the trends in population growth and rapid industrialization and urbanization, the intensity and structure of land use are undergoing great changes. Henan Province is an important economic province and a major grain producing and energy consumption area, and its land use plays a key role in the sustainable development of the whole of China. This study takes Henan Province as the research object, selects panel statistical data from 2010 to 2020, and discusses the land use structure (LUS) in Henan Province in terms of three aspects: information entropy, analysis of land use dynamic change, and land type conversion matrix. Based on the indicator system "social economy (SE)-ecological environment (EE)-agricultural production (AP)-energy consumption (EC)", a land use performance (LUP) evaluation model was constructed to judge the performance of various land use types in Henan Province. Finally, the relational degree between LUS and LUP was calculated through the grey correlation. The results show that among the eight land use types in the study area since 2010, land used for water and water conservancy facilities increased by 4%. In addition, transport and garden land changed significantly, and was mainly converted from cultivated land (decreased by 6674 km2) and other land. From the perspective of LUP, the increase in ecological environment performance is the most obvious, while agriculture performance is lagging behind; it is worth paying attention to the energy consumption performance, which is decreasing year by year. There is an obvious correlation between LUS and LUP. LUS in Henan Province presents a gradually stable state, and the transformation of land types promotes LUP. Proposing an effective and convenient evaluation method to explore the relationship between LUS and LUP is very beneficial in helping stakeholders to actively focus more on optimizing land resource management and decision making for the coordinated and sustainable development among agricultural, socio-economic, eco-environmental, and energy systems.

RESUMO

Background: Health literacy is essential to population health, yet few studies have described the geographic variation in health literacy in China. This study aimed to investigate the level of health literacy, its regional heterogeneities, as well as influencing factors of health literacy in 25 provinces or municipalities in China. Methods: The study was conducted among residents aged 15-69 years from 25 provinces or municipalities in China in 2017. Health literacy was measured using the Chinese Health Literacy Scale. MapInfo software was used to map the geographic distribution. Multiple logistic regression was used to adjust for the factors associated with the health literacy level in the overall and regional samples. Results: A total of 3,482 participants were included in the study, comprising 1,792 (51.5%) males and 1,690 (48.5%) females. Notable geographic variation was observed in health literacy levels. The proportion of respondents with adequate health literacy was 22.3% overall, 33.0% in the eastern region, 23.1% in the central region, and 17.6% in the western region. The proportion of adequate health literacy in the different provinces and municipalities ranged from 10.5% (Xinjiang) to 47.0% (Beijing). Being a female [odds ratio (OR) = 1.353; 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.146-1.597], having a high education level [OR ranging from 2.794 (CI: 1.469-5.314) to 9.458 (CI: 5.251-17.036)], having a high economic status [OR ranging from 1.537 (CI: 1.248-1.891) to 1.850 (CI: 1.498-2.284)], having a good self-rated health status [OR ranging from 2.793 (CI: 1.534-5.083) to 3.003 (CI: 1.672-5.395)], and having frequent community health education (OR = 1.588; 95% CI: 1.066-2.365) were independently associated with adequate health literacy. Conclusions: The health literacy level in the 25 provinces or municipalities of China is relatively low compared to the developed countries, and there are heterogeneities among different regions, between urban and rural areas, and among different social groups. Tailored health education and promotion strategies are needed for different subgroups of residents.

RESUMO

To investigate the different effects of mild hypothermia on pathological and physiological stress conditions in piglets, 30 pigs were randomized into four groups: cardiac arrest and mild hypothermia (CA-MH group), cardiac arrest and normothermia (CA-NH group), non-CA-MH (NCA-MH group), and a sham operation. The same hypothermia intervention was implemented in both CA-MH and NCA-MH groups. The CA-NH group did not undergo therapeutic hypothermia after resuscitation. The hemodynamic parameters were recorded. Cerebral metabolism variables and neurotransmitters in the extracellular fluid were collected through microdialysis tubes. The serum of venous blood was used to detect levels of inflammatory factors. The cerebral function was evaluated. At 24 and 72 hours after resuscitation, the cerebral performance category and neurological deficit score in the CA-NH group had higher values. Heart rate and cardiac output (CO) in the CA-MH group during cooling were lower than that of the CA-NH group, but CO was higher after rewarming. Glucose was higher during cooling, and extracellular lactate and lactate/pyruvate ratio in the CA-MH group were lower than that of the CA-NH group. Noradrenaline and 5-hydroxytryptamine in the CA-MH and NCA-MH groups were lower than that of the CA-NH group and sham group during cooling, respectively. Inflammatory factor levels, including interleukin (IL)-1ß, IL-2, IL-4, IL-6, IL-8, and tumor necrosis factor-α, in the CA-MH group were lower than that of the CA-NH group at cooling for 12 hours. These values in the NCA-MH group were higher than that of the sham group. Under a light and an electron microscope, the worse pathological results of heart and brain were observed in the two cardiac arrest groups. Mild hypothermia can provide limited organ protection in the specific pathological condition caused by ischemia-reperfusion, but it may produce a negative effect in a normal physiological state.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The effect of mild hypothermia (MH) on microcirculation after resuscitation from cardiac arrest is controversial. The aim of this study was to determine whether MH improves or aggravates the disturbance of cerebral microcirculation. METHODS: Twenty domestic male pigs were randomized into the MH group (n = 8), non-hypothermia (NH) group (n = 8) or sham operation group (n = 4). In the MH group, the animals were initiated rapid intravascular cooling at 1 h after return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) from 8 min ventricular fibrillation, and the core temperature was reduced to 33 °C for 12 h and then rewarmed to 37 °C. In the NH group, animals did not receive hypothermia treatment after ROSC. In the sham operation group, the same surgical procedure was performed, but without inducing ventricular fibrillation and hypothermia treatment. The cerebral microvascular flow index (MFI) of large microvessel (diameter > 20 µm) and small microvessel (diameter < 20 µm) was measured after ROSC. Cerebral oxygen extraction ratio, internal jugular venous-artery lactate difference, and CO2 difference were also calculated. RESULTS: Cerebral MFI dramatically reduced after ROSC, and MH further aggravated the decrease in MFI of small microvessel compared with NH (p < 0.05). Internal jugular venous-arterial lactate difference and CO2 difference, and oxygen extraction ratio were all significantly increased after ROSC. MH significantly decreased the values compared with NH (p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: MH decreases cerebral small microvessel blood flow and cerebral metabolism after ROSC compared with NH. However, the total effect is that cerebral oxygen supply-demand relationship is improved during hypothermia.

RESUMO

Reliable determination of binding kinetics and affinity of DNA hybridization and single-base mismatches plays an essential role in systems biology, personalized and precision medicine. The standard tools are optical-based sensors that are difficult to operate in low cost and to miniaturize for high-throughput measurement. Biosensors based on nanowire field-effect transistors have been developed, but reliable and cost-effective fabrication remains a challenge. Here, we demonstrate that a graphene single-crystal domain patterned into multiple channels can measure time- and concentration-dependent DNA hybridization kinetics and affinity reliably and sensitively, with a detection limit of 10 pM for DNA. It can distinguish single-base mutations quantitatively in real time. An analytical model is developed to estimate probe density, efficiency of hybridization and the maximum sensor response. The results suggest a promising future for cost-effective, high-throughput screening of drug candidates, genetic variations and disease biomarkers by using an integrated, miniaturized, all-electrical multiplexed, graphene-based DNA array.

RESUMO

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a commonly seen disease in clinical practice, and Chinese medicine shows certain preponderance in treating the disease contrasted with modern medicine. However, the clinical effect of Chinese medicine was hardly approved by the world, and the lack of widely accepted clinical assessment indices (CAI) is an important cause. The establishment of Chinese medicine CAI system for studying IBS was discussed in this paper based upon the characteristics of clinical effect and clinical assessment of Chinese medicine.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: This study was performed to confirm the cross-sectional and longitudinal construct validity of the Saint George's Respiratory Questionnaire (SGRQ) for the measurement of health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in patients with IPF. METHODS: Sixty-eight patients with IPF responded to the SGRQ and pulmonary function tests (PFT), dyspnoea testing, arterial blood gas analysis, 6-min walk tests (6MWT) and high-resolution computed tomography were performed in a baseline study. A follow-up study was performed on 45 of these patients. RESULTS: In the baseline study HRQoL as measured by the SGRQ was substantially impaired in IPF patients, especially in symptoms and activity domains. A significant decline in HRQoL was observed in the activity domain during follow up. TLC and changes in TLC showed the most significant inverse correlations with each SGRQ domain (r < -0.3, P < 0.05). In a stepwise multiple regression analysis, TLC contributed most significantly to each SGRQ component baseline score. Similar results were also observed during follow up. There was a significant correlation between total CT scores and each component of the SGRQ (r > 0.3, P < or = 0.001). Changes in ground-glass opacity on CT (CT-alv) were also correlated with changes in each SGRQ domain (r > 0.3, P < or = 0.001). Stepwise multiple regression analysis showed that interstitial opacity on CT (CT-fib) contributed to variation in the baseline activity score, and that changes in CT-alv independently contributed to overall changes in the SGRQ domains during follow up. The dyspnoea score, and changes in the dyspnoea score, correlated significantly with the SGRQ sores, with the exception of the symptoms score, in both the baseline and follow-up studies. CONCLUSIONS: HRQoL as assessed by the SGRQ showed good cross-sectional and longitudinal construct validity in patients with IPF. However, additional studies are required to analyse the reliability and responsiveness so that the SGRQ can be used in patients with IPF.

RESUMO

Twenty-three density functional theory (DFT) methods, including the second- and the third-generation functionals, are tested in conjunction with two basis sets (LANL2DZ and SDD) for studying the properties of neutral and ionic silver clusters. We find that DFT methods incorporating the uniform electron gas limit in the correlation functional, namely, those with Perdew's correlation functionals (PW91, PBE, P86, and TPSS), Becke's B95, and the Van Voorhis-Scuseria functional VSXC, generally perform better than the other group of functionals, e.g., those incorporating the LYP correlation functional and variations of the B97 functional. Strikingly, these two groups of functionals can produce qualitatively different results for the Ag3 and Ag4 clusters. The energetic properties and vibrational frequencies of Ag(n) are also evaluated by the different functionals. The present study shows that the choice of DFT methods for heavy metals may be critical. It is found that the exact-exchange-incorporated PBE functional (PBE1PBE) is among the best for predicting the range of properties.
