RESUMO

Highway bridges stand as paramount elements within transportation infrastructure systems. The ability to ensure swift recovery after extreme events, such as earthquakes, is a fundamental trait of resilient communities. Consequently, expediting the recovery process necessitates near real-time diagnosis of structural damage to provide dependable information. In this study, a data-driven approach for damage detection and assessment is investigated, focusing on bridge columns-the pivotal supporting elements of bridge systems-based on simulations derived from nonlinear time history analysis. This research introduces a set of cumulative intensity-based damage features, whose efficacy is demonstrated through unsupervised learning techniques. Leveraging the support vector machine, a prominent pattern recognition algorithm in supervised learning, alongside Bayesian optimization with a Gaussian process, seismic damage detection and assessment are explored. Encouragingly, the methodology yields high estimation accuracies for both binary outcomes (indicating the presence of damage or the occurrence of collapse) and multi-class classifications (indicating the severity of damage). This breakthrough opens avenues for the practical implementation of on-board sensor computing, enabling near real-time damage detection and assessment in bridge structures.

RESUMO

Information regarding regional arterial stiffness assessment in osteoarthritis (OA) was scarce and sometimes contradictory. We aimed to investigate the aortic, lower limb peripheral arterial stiffness and their associations with knee OA. Patients with primary knee OA and matched non-OA controls were prospectively enrolled from two medical centers in China. The carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity (cfPWV) and femoral-ankle pulse wave velocity (faPWV) were measured using a novel ultrasound technique. A total of 238 participants (including 128 patients with knee OA and 110 controls) were included. In OA patients, cfPWV was significantly higher than that of non-OA controls (9.40 ± 1.92 vs 8.25 ± 1.26 m/s, P < 0.0001). However, faPWV measurements in OA patients (12.10 ± 2.09 m/s) showed no significant difference compared with that of the controls (11.67 ± 2.52 m/s, P = 0.130). Multiple regression analysis revealed that cfPWV was independently associated with knee OA (P < 0.0001) after adjusting for the confounding factors including age, gender, smoking, mean blood pressure, body mass index, heart rate, high-sensitivity C-reactive protein and lipids profiles. In contrast, faPWV did not show independent association with knee OA (P = 0.372) when after adjusting for confounding factors. In addition, Spearman's correlation analysis showed cfPWV had a significant correlation with Kellgren-Lawrence score (rs = 0.2333, P = 0.008), but no correlation was founded between faPWV with Kellgren-Lawrence score (rs = 0.1624, P = 0.067) in OA patients. This study demonstrated that stiffening of aorta, but not lower limb arteries, was independently associated with knee OA. Our findings may call for further implementation of routine aortic stiffness assessments so as to evaluate cardiovascular risk in patients with OA.

RESUMO

Bacillus probiotics exhibit considerable economic potential owing to their heightened resilience to external stressors and relatively lower costs related to production and preservation. Although Bacillus paralicheniformis has been acknowledged as a plant-promoting bacterium for a long time, understanding its potential as a probiotic is still in its nascent stages. In this study, the safety and probiotic characteristics of a strain of HMPM220325, isolated from artisanal fruit dairy products, were examined through whole-genome sequencing and phenotypic analysis. The whole genome of HMPM220325 was analyzed for antimicrobial resistance genes, pathogenicity factors, and genes associated with probiotic traits including stress resistance, spore formation, gut adhesion, competitive exclusion of pathogens, bacteriocin expression, and carbohydrate metabolism related to prebiotic utilization. Also, wet lab experiments were conducted for the characterization of probiotics. The identification of the organism as B. paralicheniformis was verified. Its safety was assessed through in silico analysis, the haemolytic activity test, and the acute oral toxicity test. B. paralicheniformis HMPM220325 demonstrated its ability to survive in the pH range of 4-10 and bile salt concentrations of 0-0.9% (w/v), tolerate temperatures between 20 and 60 °C, and exhibit a robust antioxidant capacity. Moreover, B. paralicheniformis HMPM220325 demonstrated a moderate level of hydrophobicity, had the ability to form biofilms, achieved a self-aggregation rate of 51.77 ± 1.01% within 6 hours, and successfully colonized the mouse intestine for a duration of up to 17 days. Additionally, the genome of B. paralicheniformis HMPM220325 contains three gene clusters associated with the biosynthesis of bacteriocins and exhibits co-aggregation with Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium. The findings of the genomic analysis align with those obtained from the experimental investigation, thereby substantiating the potential of B. paralicheniformis HMPM220325 as a probiotic suitable for incorporation in dairy functional foods and feed applications.

RESUMO

AIMS: Operative link on gastritis assessment (OLGA) and operative link on gastric intestinal metaplasia assessment (OLGIM) systems are histological staging systems of gastritis for gastric cancer (GC) risk estimation. Intermediate OLGA/OLGIM stages are of concern in a region with high incidence of GC. This study aimed to validate OLGA and OLGIM staging systems for early GC (EGC) in Chinese population. METHODS: This single-centre, case-control study included 196 patients with EGC and 196 age-matched and sex-matched health screening control subjects. OLGA and OLGIM systems, and other clinical parameters were evaluated using logistic regression analysis. RESULTS: OLGA and OLGIM stages II/III/IV were more prevalent in patients with EGC than in the control subjects. Multivariable analysis revealed family history of GC, previous Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection, OLGA stages II and III-IV, OLGIM stages II and III-IV as independent risk factors for EGC (ORs, 4.04, 1.87, 2.52, 6.79, 4.11 and 10.78, respectively). Area under the receiver operating characteristic curve on EGC risk estimation was improved for OLGIM compared with OLGA (0.78 vs 0.71, p<0.001). Autoantibody seropositivity of gastric mucosa was not associated with EGC risk stratified by H. pylori status. CONCLUSIONS: Surveillance of intermediate-risk patients (OLGA/OLGIM II) should be emphasised in our region. The OLGIM may be preferred over the OLGA for EGC risk estimation.

RESUMO

The situation of air pollution in Guanzhong Plain has been increasing in recent years; hence, it is very important to study the characteristics of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and their health risks in urban functional zones. We analyzed 115 VOCs using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry/hydrogen ion flame detector (GC-MS/FID) and high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) at four sampling sites in the traffic, comprehensive, industrial, and scenic zones of Baoji. We analyzed the main components and key species in the different functional zones. Ozone formation potential (OFP),·OH consumption rate (L·OH), and secondary organic aerosol formation potential (SOAFP) were used to evaluate the environmental impact, and the hazard index (HI) and lifetime cancer risk (LCR) methods were employed. The results revealed that the mean values of φ(TVOCs) in the traffic, comprehensive, industrial, and scenic zones were (59.63±23.85)×10-9, (42.92±11.88)×10-9, (60.27±24.09)×10-9, and (55.54±7.44)×10-9, respectively. The dominant contributors at the traffic zone were alkanes, and those at the other functional zones were OVOCs. Acetaldehyde, acetone, n-butane, and isopentane were abundant at different functional zones. According to the characteristic ratios of VOCs, the average ratio of toluene to benzene (T/B) at the traffic, comprehensive, industrial, and scenic zones were 1.84, 2.39, 1.28, and 1.64, respectively, and the ratio of iso-pentane to n-pentane (i/n) was mainly between 1 and 4. The results indicated that VOCs in Baoji were significantly affected by vehicle emissions and gasoline evaporation, biomass and coal combustion, and industrial coatings and foundry. The ratio of m/p-xylene to ethylbenzene (X/E) was lower than 2 at the four functional zones, and the minimum was 1.79 at the scenic zones; the results revealed that X/E was small, and the aging degree of air masses was high, indicating the influence of regional transport. According to the ratio of formaldehyde to acetaldehyde (C1/C2) and the ratio of acetaldehyde to propanal (C2/C3), it was suggested that there may have been evident anthropogenic emission sources, and the photochemical reaction had an important effect on aldehydes and ketones. Environmental impact assessment results revealed that OVOCs and alkenes contributed significantly to OFP and OFP from large to small was as follows:industrial zone>scenic zone>traffic zone>comprehensive zone. The range of L·OH in each functional zone was 8.77-15.82 s-1, with isoprene contributing the most in the industrial zone and acetaldehyde contributing the most at other functional zones. The SOAFP of each functional zone was as follows:scenic zone>comprehensive zone>traffic zone>industrial zone. Toluene, m/p-xylene, and isoprene were the notable species. According to the health risk assessment of EPA, the HI of toxic VOCs in all functional zones was lower than 1, which was at an acceptable level. However, the number of days with HI>1 in industrial zones accounted for 42.86% of the total sampling days, indicating a high risk. The lifetime carcinogenic risk (LCR) of the traffic, comprehensive, industrial, and scenic zones were 1.83×10-5, 1.21×10-5, 1.85×10-5, and 1.63×10-5, respectively, which were all in grade Ⅲ of the rating system, indicating a high probability of cancer risk. Species with LCR greater than 10-6 were formaldehyde; acetaldehyde; 1,2-dibromoethane; 1,2-dichloroethane; 1,2-dichloropropane; and chloroform.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Alignment is indispensable for the foot and ankle function, especially in the hindfoot alignment. In the preoperative planning of patients with varus or valgus deformity, the precise measurement of the hindfoot alignment is important. A new method of photographing and measuring hindfoot alignment based on X-ray was proposed in this study, and it was applied in the assessment of flatfoot. METHODS: This study included 28 patients (40 feet) with flatfeet and 20 volunteers (40 feet) from January to December 2018. The hindfoot alignment shooting stand independently designed by our department was used to take hindfoot alignment X-rays at 10 degree, 15 degree, 20 degree, 25 degree, and 30 degree. We measured the modified tibio-hindfoot angle (THA) at the standard hindfoot aligment position (shooting at 20 degree) and evaluated consistency with the van Dijk method and the modified van Dijk method. In addition, we observed the visibility of the tibiotalar joint space from all imaging data at five projection angles and evaluated the consistency of the modified THA method at different projection angles. The angle of hindfoot valgus of flatfoot patients was measured using the modified THA method. RESULTS: The mean THA in the standard hindfoot aligment view in normal people was significantly different among the three evaluation methods (P < .001). The results from the modified THA method were significantly larger than those from the Van Dijk method (P < .001) and modified Van Dijk method (P < .001). There was no significant difference between the results of the modified THA method and the weightbearing CT (P = .605), and the intra- and intergroup consistency were the highest in the modified THA group. The tibiotalar space in the normal group was visible in all cases at 10 degree, 15 degree, and 20 degree; visible in some cases at 25 degree; and not visible in all cases at 30 degree. In the flatfoot group, the tibiotalar space was visible in all cases at 10 degree, visible in some cases at 15 degree and 20 degree, and not visible in all cases at 25 degree and 30 degree. In the normal group, the modified THA was 4.84 ± 1.81 degree at 10 degree, 4.96 ± 1.77 degree at 15 degree, and 4.94 ± 2.04 degree at 20 degree. No significant differences were found among the three groups (P = .616). In the flatfoot group, the modified THA of 18 feet, which was visible at 10 degree, 15 degree and 20 degree, was 13.58 ± 3.57 degree at 10 degree, 13.62 ± 3.83 degree at 15 degree and 13.38 ± 4.06 degree at 20 degree. There were no significant differences among the three groups (P = .425). CONCLUSIONS: The modified THA evaluation method is simple to use and has high inter- and intragroup consistency. It can be used to evaluate hindfoot alignment. For patients with flatfeet, the 10 degree position view and modified THA measurement can be used to evaluate hindfoot valgus.

RESUMO

Centralized vs. decentralized sewage treatment is one of the key issues in the planning of rural sewage treatment (RST) in China due to the country's diverse regional characteristics. There are very limited comprehensive evaluation models for selecting regionally suitable schemes and facilities, particularly for national or provisional scale planning. As a scenario-based multi-attribute decision-making (MADM) issue, this paper develops a novel RST suitability evaluation model by integrating the multi-attribute analytic hierarchy process (AHP) with the technique for order preference by similarity to an ideal solution (TOPSIS). The suitability evaluation model sets up 3 small-centralized and 4 decentralized RST facilities as candidates and includes 12 evaluation indicators that cover economic cost, life cycle environmental impacts, technical features and operations management. Eight generic scenarios are classified for Chinese rural areas based on differences in three major characteristic factors, i.e., population density (PD), the economic development level (EDL), and topographic slope (TS). The universal evaluation results show that a centralized sewage treatment scheme is more suitable for areas with a high PD/high EDL/low TS, while a decentralized scheme is more suitable for areas with a low PD/low EDL/high TS. Sensitivity analysis shows that in regions with a high PD/low EDL, the indicator weight of the construction investment cost in the model has a great influence on the facility suitability ranking. However, in regions with a high PD/high EDL, the ranking is the most sensitive to the indicator weights of the global warming potential and sewage treatment effect. Furthermore, as a spatial decision issue, an RST suitability map of Hunan Province in China is produced at the county level of resolution, and the map is generally consistent with our field knowledge of several counties in Hunan Province. The presented evaluation framework can be integrated into environmental decision support systems in the future to help local and central governments, water utilities, design institutes and other stakeholders scientifically plan RST projects.

RESUMO

Structural damage detection using unsupervised learning methods has been a trending topic in the structural health monitoring (SHM) research community during the past decades. In the context of SHM, unsupervised learning methods rely only on data acquired from intact structures for training the statistical models. Consequently, they are often seen as more practical than their supervised counterpart in implementing an early-warning damage detection system in civil structures. In this article, we review publications on data-driven structural health monitoring from the last decade that relies on unsupervised learning methods with a focus on real-world application and practicality. Novelty detection using vibration data is by far the most common approach for unsupervised learning SHM and is, therefore, given more attention in this article. Following a brief introduction, we present the state-of-the-art studies in unsupervised-learning SHM, categorized by the types of used machine-learning methods. We then examine the benchmarks that are commonly used to validate unsupervised-learning SHM methods. We also discuss the main challenges and limitations in the existing literature that make it difficult to translate SHM methods from research to practical applications. Accordingly, we outline the current knowledge gaps and provide recommendations for future directions to assist researchers in developing more reliable SHM methods.

RESUMO

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a degenerative disease of the central nervous system (CNS) with insidious onset. AD is also the most common cause of dementia. Compound Congrong Yizhi Capsules (CCYC), a traditional Chinese medicine compound developed by the team of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, has been widely used to treat AD. AIM OF THIS STUDY: To systematically evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of CCYC for AD by meta-analysis, Trial Sequential Analysis (TSA) and the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) system. METHODS: This study was registered at PROSPERO (CRD42022295496). Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of CCYC as the treatment for AD published before December 1, 2021 were retrieved from 4 Chinses databases, 4 English databases and 2 clinical trials registration systems. RevMan 5.4 and STATA 17.0 was used to conduct the meta-analysis of the included studies, the quality of outcomes was rated by the GRADE system, the TSA was conducted by TSA 0.9.5.10 software. RESULTS: Seven studies were included, and the total sample size was 746. Meta-analysis showed that 6 months of treatment with CCYC plus conventional western medicine treatments (CTs) improved MMSE scores compared with CTs alone (WMD: 4.32, 95% CI: 3.23, 5.42), and TSA confirmed that more trials in the future will not reverse the result. Among which, CCYC combined with donepezil can significantly improve MMSE scores (WMD: 3.54, 95% CI: 2.86, 4.22). CCYC combined with olanzapine also showed good effect on both MMSE (WMD: 6.49, 95% CI: 5.54, 7.44) and ADL scores (WMD: 5.23, 95% CI: 4.63, 5.83). No serious adverse events were reported. The strengths of the evidences above are MODERATE. CONCLUSION: CCYC combined with cognition-modifying western medicine can improve cognitive function, mental behavioural symptoms, and activities of daily living in AD patients with good safety.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Thyroid cancer has been an increasingly high-profile public health issue. Comprehensive assessment for its disease burden seems particularly important for understanding health priorities and hinting high-risk populations. METHODS: We estimated the age-sex-specific thyroid cancer burden and its temporal trend in China from 1990 to 2019 by following the general methods from the global burden of disease (GBDs) 2019 Study. And Joinpoint regression model, the Cox-Stuart trend test, and Cochran-Armitage test were applied for the analysis of temporal and age trend. The Mantel-Haenszel statistical method was used to compare the gender difference. RESULTS: From 1990 to 2019, the age-standardized incidence rate of thyroid cancer in China has almost doubled to 2.05 per 100,000. Although the mortality rate and DALY rate kept leveling off, they presented a downtrend among females, while an upward trend in males. While the average annual percentage changes of those metrics all became deline since 2010 than the previous years. With age advancing, the rates of incidence, mortality, and DALYs for both sexes all presented linear fashion increases, which was particularly typical among males. CONCLUSION: Given the serious trend and gender-age heterogeneity of Chinese thyroid cancer burden, male gender and advanced age may be related to poor prognosis of thyroid cancer, and strengthening primary prevention and exploring the underlying risk factors should be among the top priorities.

RESUMO

Low-carbon economic growth in cities is important for reduction of carbon emissions in China. As the best practice city in China, Shenzhen city has experienced rapid economic growth with low carbon emissions. The study aims to evaluate the performance of Chinese cities on low-carbon economic growth through the case study of Shenzhen city. The study carries out the Tapio decoupling model for analyzing decoupling state, and uses the Kaya-Logarithmic Mean Divisia Index decomposition model to determine the main driving factors of carbon emissions in Shenzhen. Results indicate that Shenzhen has greatly decoupled carbon emissions with economic growth. The analysis of driving factors of carbon emission shows that the declining energy intensity and the upgrading industrial structure effectively hamper the increase of carbon emissions in Shenzhen. The decline in energy intensity in Shenzhen may come from an improvement of production efficiency of the industries. However, the irrational energy consumption structure, fast-growing economic output, and industry scale are hampering the low carbon emissions of Shenzhen. All estimated industries are highly dependent on coal and oil although some industries have slightly increased their proportion of clean energy consumption. Pursuing more clean energy consumption in the industry will be a key development strategy for reducing emissions in the future. Moreover, as Shenzhen is a fast-growing city, the increasing economic output and industry scale are inevitable. Changing people's way of living could also help in reducing carbon emissions in cities.

RESUMO

Cell clustering is typically the initial step in single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) analyses. The performance of clustering considerably impacts the validity and reproducibility of cell identification. A variety of clustering algorithms have been developed for scRNA-seq data. These algorithms generate cell label sets that assign each cell to a cluster. However, different algorithms usually yield different label sets, which can introduce variations in cell-type identification based on the generated label sets. Currently, the performance of these algorithms has not been systematically evaluated in single-cell transcriptome studies. Herein, we performed a critical assessment of seven state-of-the-art clustering algorithms including four deep learning-based clustering algorithms and commonly used methods Seurat, Cosine-based Tanimoto similarity-refined graph for community detection using Leiden's algorithm (CosTaL) and Single-cell consensus clustering (SC3). We used diverse evaluation indices based on 10 different scRNA-seq benchmarks to systematically evaluate their clustering performance. Our results show that CosTaL, Seurat, Deep Embedding for Single-cell Clustering (DESC) and SC3 consistently outperformed Single-Cell Clustering Assessment Framework and scDeepCluster based on nine effectiveness scores. Notably, CosTaL and DESC demonstrated superior performance in clustering specific cell types. The performance of the single-cell Variational Inference tools varied across different datasets, suggesting its sensitivity to certain dataset characteristics. Notably, DESC exhibited promising results for cell subtype identification and capturing cellular heterogeneity. In addition, SC3 requires more memory and exhibits slower computation speed compared to other algorithms for the same dataset. In sum, this study provides useful guidance for selecting appropriate clustering methods in scRNA-seq data analysis.

RESUMO

Being one of the most important exocrine fluids of the human body, saliva can reflect the health status of the body. Soliva collection has various advantages--it is simple, painless, fast, and safe, and soliva can be collected multiple times a day. Therefore, it has been gradually applied in the exploration for biomarkers for disease detection, providing a basis for the monitoring of the course of diseases, medication monitoring, and efficacy evaluation. We should implement health management based on saliva testing, collect the medical data of the healthy and diseased individuals and monitor their whole life cycle health, perform clinical cohort study, aggregate the data on platforms for big data on health and medicine, manage and provide guidance for the health status of populations, pinpoint the high-risk factors for pathogenesis, and provide effective intervention, early warning, and assessment of the vital signs of individuals, thereby reinforcing health management of the whole life cycle and safeguarding people's health in an all-round way. In addition, it drives the development of the health industry and bears strategic significance for the promotion of national economic development. It is becoming a hot research topic promising great potential and impressive applicational prospects. Herein, we reviewed new techniques for clinical saliva testing and health management based on saliva testing.

RESUMO

Background: The early detection of atherosclerotic lesions is particularly important for risk prediction of acute cardiovascular events. Macrophages apoptosis was significantly associated with the degree of AS lesions and especially contributed to plaque vulnerability. In this research, we mainly sought to explore the feasibility of a home-made AV-nanobubbles (NBAV) for visualization of apoptotic macrophages and assessment of atherosclerosis (AS) lesions by contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) imaging. Methods: NBAV were prepared by "Optimized Thin-Film Hydration" and "Biotin-Avidin-Biotin" methods. Then, the characterization and echogenicity of NBAV were measured and analyzed in vitro. The targeting ability of NBAV to ox-LDL-induced apoptotic macrophages was observed by laser scanning confocal microscope. The ApoE-/- mice mode fed with high fat diet were observed by high-frequency ultrasound, microanatomy and oil red O staining. CEUS imaging in vivo was performed on AS plaques with NBAV and NBCtrl injection through the tail vein in turn in ApoE-/- mice. After CEUS imaging, the plaques were confirmed and analyzed by histopathological and immunological assessment. Results: The prepared NBAV had a nano-scale size distribution with a low PDI and a negative zeta potential. Moreover, NBAV showed an excellent stability and exhibited a significantly echogenic signal than saline in vitro. In addition, we found that NBAV could target apoptotic macrophages induced by ox-LDL. Compared with NBCtrl, CEUS imaging of NBAV showed strong and sustained echo enhancement in plaque area of aortic arch in vivo. Further research showed that NBAV sensitive plaques presented more significant pathological changes with several vulnerable plaque features and abundant TUNEL-positive area. Conclusion: NBAV displayed a sensitive indicator to evaluate apoptotic macrophages, indicating a promising CEUS molecular probe for AS lesions and vulnerable plaques identification.

RESUMO

Objectives: To quantify the burden and variation trends of cancers in children under 5 years at the global, regional, and national levels from 1990 to 2019. Methods: Epidemiological data for children under 5 years who were diagnosed with any one childhood cancer were obtained from the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD) from 1990 to 2019. The outcomes were the absolute numbers and rates of incidence, prevalence, mortality, and disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) for different types of cancer. Results: In 2019, 8,774,979.1 incident cases (95% uncertainty interval [UI]: 6,243,599.2 to11,737,568.5) and 8,956,583.8 (6,446,323.9 to 12,364,520.8) prevalent cases of cancer in children under 5 years were identified worldwide; these cancers resulted in 44,451.6 (36,198.7 to 53,905.9) deaths and 3,918,014.8 (3,196,454.9 to 4,751,304.2) DALYs. From 1990 to 2019, although the numbers of incident and prevalent cases only decreased by -4.6% (-7.0 to -2.2) and -8.3% (-12.6 to -3.4), respectively, the numbers of deaths and DALYs clearly declined by -47.8% (-60.7 to -26.4) and -47.7% (-60.7 to -26.2), respectively. In 2019, the middle sociodemographic index (SDI) regions had the highest incidence and prevalence, whereas the low SDI regions had the most mortality and DALYs. Although all of the SDI regions displayed a steady drop in deaths and DALYs between 1990 and 2019, the low-middle and low SDI regions showed increasing trends of incidence and prevalence. Leukemia remained the most common cancer globally in 2019. From 1990 to 2019, the burdens of leukemia, liver cancer, and Hodgkin's lymphoma declined, whereas the incidence and prevalence of other cancers grew, particularly testicular cancer. Conclusions: The global childhood cancer burden in young children has been steadily decreasing over the past three decades. However, the burdens and other characteristics have varied across different regions and types of cancers. This highlights the need to reorient current treatment strategies and establish effective prevention methods to reduce the global burden of childhood cancer.

RESUMO

The residual content of organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) in soil and crops of typical agricultural land in the southern Leizhou peninsula were determined using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Additionally, the bioconcentration factors of organochlorine pesticides in eight crops were investigated, and the human health risk was evaluated. The results indicated that 10 types of OCPs were detected to varying degrees; HCHs and heptachlor were the main OCPs in the study area, with the residual contents of 23.83-111.51 ng·g-1 and 11.01-25.97 ng·g-1 in soil and 7.54-61.28 ng·g-1 and 3.96-30.97 ng·g-1 in crops, respectively. A small number of soil and crop samples were found to exceed the standard. The ratio of α-HCH/γ-HCH was less than 1 in 87.50% of the soil samples, and ß-HCH/α-HCH was larger than 1. This indicates that the HCHs were probably derived from the recent use of lindane and historical residual pollution, whereas the heptachlor was mainly derived from underground insect pests and the application of termite control agents. The enrichment ability of OCPs was significantly different among different crops. The bioaccumulation capacity of vegetables was higher than that of fruit. Furthermore, bulb vegetables (leeks) were significantly stronger than other vegetables. A human health risk assessment of OCPs showed that OCP-combined pollution would not cause significant health risks to the population in the study area. However, the maximum value of HI in some crop samples was greater than 1, indicating that there were still potential risks, which should not be ignored.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to evaluate the socio-economic burden imposed on the Chinese healthcare system during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. STUDY DESIGN: A cross-sectional study was used to investigate how COVID-19 impacted health and medical costs in China. Data were derived from a subdivision of the Centers for Disease control and Prevention of China. METHODS: We prospectively collected information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the designated hospitals to determine the cost of public health care and hospitalisation due to COVID-19. We estimated the resource use and direct medical costs associated with public health. RESULTS: The average costs, per case, for specimen collection and nucleic acid testing (NAT [specifically, polymerase chain reaction {PCR}]) in low-risk populations were $29.49 and $53.44, respectively; however, the average cost of NAT in high-risk populations was $297.94 per capita. The average costs per 1000 population for epidemiological surveys, disinfectant, health education and centralised isolation were $49.54, $247.01, $90.22 and $543.72, respectively. A single hospitalisation for COVID-19 in China cost a median of $2158.06 ($1961.13-$2325.65) in direct medical costs incurred only during hospitalisation, whereas the total costs associated with hospitalisation of patients with COVID-19 were estimated to have reached nearly $373.20 million in China as of 20, May, 2020. The cost of public health care associated with COVID-19 as of 20, May, 2020 ($6.83 billion) was 18.31 times that of hospitalisation. CONCLUSIONS: This study highlights the magnitude of resources needed to treat patients with COVID-19 and control the COVID-19 pandemic. Public health measures implemented by the Chinese government have been valuable in reducing the infection rate and may be cost-effective ways to control emerging infectious diseases.

RESUMO

Rationale and Objectives To evaluate the effectiveness of radiomics analysis based on Gd-EOB-DTPA enhanced hepatic MRI for functional liver reserve assessment in HCC patients. Materials and Methods Radiomics features were extracted from Gd-EOB-DTPA enhanced MRI images in 60 HCC patients. Boruta algorithm was performed to select features associated with indocyanine green retention rate at 15 min (ICG R15). Prediction and classification model were built by performing Random Forest regression analysis. Pearson correlation analysis and AUC of ROC were used to assess performance of the two models. Results A total of 165 radiomics features were extracted. Six radiomics features were selected to build the prediction model. A Predicted value of ICG R15 for each patient was calculated by the prediction model. Pearson correlation analysis revealed that predicted values were significantly associated with actual values of ICG R15 (R value = 0.90, p < 0.001). Nine radiomics features were selected to build the classification model. AUC of ROC revealed favorable performance of the classification model for identifying patients with ICG R15 <10% (AUC: 0.906, 95%CI: 0.900-0.913), <15% (AUC: 0.954, 95%CI: 0.950-0.958), and <20% (AUC: 0.996, 95%CI: 0.995-0.996). Conclusion Radiomics analysis of Gd-EOB-DTPA enhanced hepatic MRI can be used for assessment of functional liver reserve in HCC patients.

RESUMO

Aims: To explore the structural relationship between perceived participation and autonomy among older adults with stroke and hypertension in home and community-based services (HCBSs) in the eastern coastal region of China. Design: An explorative cross-sectional study. Methods: From July to September 2021, a total of 714 respondents were reported to have stroke and hypertension, and their information was used in the analysis of this study. A multiple linear regression analysis was used to explore the factors influencing factors older adults' perceived participation and autonomy. Using the ISM model, we analyzed the factors affecting social participation in patients with stroke and hypertension and explained the logical relationships and hierarchy among the factors. Results: The mean score of perceived participation was 58.34 ± 27.57. Age, marital status, health insurance, living status, number of children, chronic diseases, sleep time, frequency of outings, and health utility value were significant factors affecting perceived participation and autonomy with stroke and hypertension patients. Among them, health insurance is the direct factor on the surface, age, number of children, chronic diseases, sleep time, frequency of outings, and health utility value are the intermediate indirect factors, and marital status and living status are the deep-rooted factors. Conclusion: By the study that the hierarchical structure provides a visualization of interrelationships and interdependences among the influencing factors of perceived participation and autonomy. It also may be a significant complement to traditional variable-entered approaches and construct an optimized multidimensional perspective of participation and autonomy. Future research should focus on optimizing the living environment of older adults with stroke and hypertension to explore the model of rehabilitative intervention and help patients successfully reintegrate into their families/societies.
