RESUMO

Background: Tacrolimus (Tac) is commonly used for postoperative immunosuppressive therapy in transplant patients. However, problems, for example, low bioavailability and unstable plasma concentration, persist for a long time, Studies have reported that the deoxyschizandrin could effectively improve these problems, but the pharmacokinetic parameters (PKs) of Tac combined with deoxyschizandrin are still unknown. Method: In this study, an UHPLC-MS/MS method has been established for simultaneous quantitation of Tac and deoxyschizandrin. The PKs of Tac influenced by different doses of deoxyschizandrin after single and multiple administrations were analyzed, and the different impact of deoxyschizandrin and Wuzhi capsule on PKs of Tac were compared. Result: The modified UHPLC-MS/MS method could rapid quantification of Tac and deoxyschizandrin within 2 min using bifendatatum as the internal standard (IS). All items were successfully validated. The C max of deoxyschizandrin increased from 148.27 ± 23.20 to 229.13 ± 54.77 ng/mL in rats after multiple administrations for 12 days. After co-administration of 150 mg/mL deoxyschizandrin, Tac had an earlier T max and greater C max and AUC0-t, and the C max and AUC0-t of Tac increased from 14.26 ± 4.73 to 54.48 ± 14.37 ng/mL and from 95.10 ± 32.61 to 315.23 ± 92.22 h/ng/mL, respectively; this relationship was positively proportional to the dosage of deoxyschizandrin. In addition, compared with Wuzhi capsule, the same dose of deoxyschizandrin has a better effective on Tac along with more stable overall PKs. Conclusion: An UHPLC-MS/MS method was established and validated for simultaneous detection of deoxyschizandrin and Tac. Deoxyschizandrin could improve the in vivo exposure level and stability of Tac, besides, this effect is better than Wuzhi capsule in same dose.

RESUMO

Malignant hyperthermia (MH) is a fatal hyperthermia with a high mortality, which usually occurs during induction of general anesthesia. Dantrolene sodium is a wonder drug currently used for treating malignant hyperthermia. However, preparing, storing, and maintaining dantrolene sodium are crucially expensive, thus making it financially unsatisfactory and difficult for clinicians to acquire in time. Monitoring patients' condition closely and intervening promptly when early signs of malignant hyperthermia occur can effectively prevent the condition from worsening and win over time for the arrival of dantraline sodium. This article is to report a case in which we successfully rescued a child occurring malignant hyperthermia without using dantrolene sodium.

RESUMO

The formation of mine-contaminated groundwater as a result of acidic mine drainage from the oxidation of sulfur-containing minerals entering the groundwater. Biological permeable reactive barrier (Bio-PRB) technology is excellent for the remediation of mine-contaminated groundwater. Usually, the organic substrates utilized in Bio-PRB are a combination of rapid initiators, which are readily bioavailable, and long-lasting nutrients, which are more difficult to degrade. Herein, we investigated the effectiveness of three rapid initiators and three long-lasting nutrients to remove sulfate from simulated mine-contaminated groundwater via simulated column experiments. The rapid initiators comprised crude glycerol, sodium acetate, and industrial syrup (IS), and the long-lasting nutrients included biodiesel emulsified oil, soybean oil emulsified oil, and high-carbon alcohol emulsified oil (HO). Microorganisms were stimulated using IS to create a sulfate reduction system owing to its high total organic carbon content (24.30 g L-1), achieving optimal sulfate removal rate (1.69 mmol dm-3 d-1). The fastest (2.93 mmol dm-3 d-1) and highest (88%) sulfate removal rates were achieved using HO, which is probably associated with the ability of HO to provide the most suitable C/N ratio (111.75) and induce the growth of sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) for substrate degradation. Conversely, a high concentration of sulfate reduction products inhibited SRB growth in the HO column. The addition of organic materials promoted SRB growth and various organic substrate-degrading bacteria. Furthermore, the competitive growth of methanogens (86.6%) may be responsible for the decrease in the relative abundance of SRB during the later stages of the experiment in the HO column.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Malnutrition is highly prevalent and associated with complications and mortality in patients with cirrhosis. METHODS: This was a prospective observational study. Patients with cirrhosis were screened using the Nutritional Risk Screening 2002, the Royal Free Hospital-Nutritional Prioritizing Tool and the Skeletal Muscle Index. Then, the sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive values, and consistency with the Global Leadership Initiative on Malnutrition criteria results were calculated. We also analysed the association between nutritional status and short-term prognosis. RESULTS: We enrolled 125 patients with cirrhosis, of whom 59.20% and 60.00% were malnourished based on the Global Leadership Initiative on Malnutrition criteria and Skeletal Muscle Index. Some 53.60% and 65.60%, respectively, were classified medium-to-high nutritional risk by Nutritional Risk Screening 2002 and the Royal Free Hospital-Nutritional Prioritizing Tool. The Royal Free Hospital-Nutritional Prioritizing Tool had the best predictive value, and it was more sensitive and had a better negative predictive value than the Nutritional Risk Screening 2002 Tool. The Skeletal Muscle Index also had good sensitivity and predictive value. The Royal Free Hospital-Nutritional Prioritizing Tool, Skeletal Muscle Index and Global Leadership Initiative on Malnutrition criteria showed high concordance. The 3- and 6-month mortality rates were significantly higher for patients with moderate-to-high nutritional risk or malnutrition, regardless of the tool. CONCLUSIONS: When assessing cirrhosis with the Global Leadership Initiative on Malnutrition criteria, the Royal Free Hospital-Nutritional Prioritizing Tool is best for nutritional screening and the Skeletal Muscle Index is also a good nutritional assessment tool.

RESUMO

Pork products were the most common media of Salmonella in China, breaded pork products as a very popular meat presently, whose Salmonella risk should be drawn to attention. Given that quantitative risk assessment is a more scientific method for risk evaluation, a quantitative risk assessment model of Salmonella in breaded pork products was first constructed from processing to consumption, and was used for assessing the risk and the effective interventions in this study. The data of Salmonella contamination in breaded pork products during processing were obtained from the actual detection data of samples from a representative meat processing plant. With combining the predictive microbial modeling and dose-response relationship, the risk of Salmonella in breaded pork products was charactered, and the probability of Salmonella infection per meal was found to be 5.585 × 10-9. Based on the results of sensitivity analysis, the curing and seasoning process was found to be the key control point for Salmonella contamination during the processing, and consumer behavior was the key control point affecting the probability of Salmonella infection from processing to consumption. The model was also applied for assessing the effectiveness of risk interventions, and among the nine interventions given, control of thawing temperature before cooking such as microwave thawing could reduce the risk of infection by 30.969-fold, while cooking the products thoroughly, Salmonella would not pose a pathogenic hazard to consumers. The model and the assessed results in this study may provide guidance on microbial control in producing process and safety consumption of breaded pork products.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To analyse the trends of diseases burden attributed to high body mass index (BMI), including overweight and obesity, in Asia from 1990 to 2019. DESIGN: Observational study. SETTING: The data of 45 countries and regions in Asia were obtained from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2019 database. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Numbers, age-standardised rate (ASR) of deaths and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs), and the corresponding estimated annual percentage changes (EAPCs), attributable to high BMI in Asia from 1990 to 2019, were analysed by regions, genders and age. We also analysed changes in the causes of deaths and DALYs that are attributable to high BMI over this period. RESULTS: In 2019, all causes deaths attributable to high BMI in Asia were 2 329 503, with increases by 265% compared with 1990. Over three decades, DALYs related to high BMI have increased by 268%. The ASRs of deaths and DALYs in Asia both showed continuous upward trends during this period (EAPC 1.39; 95% certainty interval [95% CI] 1.35 to 1.43 for deaths; EAPC 1.8; 95% CI 1.76 to 1.84 for DALYs), while both were declined in high-income areas (EAPC -2.03 and -1.26). By geographical regions, disease burden in Central Asia and West Asia have been fluctuating at high levels, but high-income Asia Pacific showed decreasing trends of ASR of deaths (EAPC -2.03) and DALYs (EAPC -1.26). Over this period, disease burden in Asia was changing from women to men, and tends to ageing. In addition, diabetes were the diseases most affected by high BMI, and cancer burden was high in middle-aged and elderly people. CONCLUSIONS: The disease burden attributed to high BMI in Asia has experienced great changes. It is necessary to promote the prevention of obesity and chronic diseases in a comprehensive manner, especially in low-income areas, men and elderly.

RESUMO

Children with special health care needs (CSHCNs) are at an increased risk of vaccine-preventable infections (VPDs), but they also face the dilemma of vaccine hesitancy. We obtained information on pediatric visits from the Referral and Assessment Information System for Vaccination (RAISV) and information on vaccination from the Jiangsu Province Immunization Information System (JSIIS). We followed the occurrence of Adverse Events Following Immunization (AEFIs) and VPDs by actively calling and querying the China Information System for Disease Control and Prevention (CISDCP). The Poisson test was used to compare the incidence of AEFIs between groups. A total of 5,037 children who visited a vaccination assessment clinic were followed-up in this study. The majority were children with developmental anomalies (28.5%), certain conditions originating in the perinatal period (12.1%), and nervous system disorders (9.0%). Most CSHCNs (66.9%) were advised to have all vaccines according to routine practice, 29.0% were advised to have partial vaccination, and 4.1% were advised to delay all vaccines and wait for future assessment. A total of 201 (4.0%) CSHCNs were not vaccinated, although they were assessed to be eligible for vaccination. By querying the immunization planning module in CISDCP, we observed 55 AEFI cases, which amounted to an incidence rate of 1.2 per 1,000, and the occurrence of abnormal reactions was not significantly different compared with the general population. The vaccination program following the designed workflow for CSHCNs was safe and could be recommended in other areas.

RESUMO

Background: Neuroendocrine neoplasm (NEN) is a group of rare tumors. Among which, gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasm (GEP-NEN) is the most common group. The World Health Organization (WHO) classified these tumors into three different grades (G1, G2, and G3) based on Ki-67 and mitotic rate, and updated the classification in 2019. Several previous studies proved that Ki-67 was related to tumor prognosis, but others still reported that Ki-67 had no predictive value for tumor prognosis. There are different conclusions between studies regarding the correlation between Ki-67 and tumor prognosis, and there is a lack of studies about this correlation of GEP-NENs. Further analysis is still needed to evaluate the prognostic value of Ki-67 in GEP-NENs, to provide reference for clinical decisions. Methods: A total of 303 studies were retrieved that included Ki-67, GEP-NENs, prognosis, survival, and other subject terms and keywords. We excluded studies that did not show complete Ki-67 index, number of patients and 5-year survival data available for meta-analysis, non-cohort studies, articles published before 2000 or not published in English. Fifteen studies were finally included to assess the value of Ki-67 in the prognosis of patients with GEP-NENs using a random-effects model. Results: The cumulative 5-year survival rate for GEP-NEN G1 (Ki-67 ≤2%), G2 (Ki-67 2-20%) and G3 (Ki-67 >20%) was 86%, 65%, 25% respectively. The 5-year survival rate of GEP-NEN G1 (Ki-67 <3%, first revised in WHO classification 2017, redefined WHO classification 2019) and G1 (Ki-67 ≤2%, WHO classification 2010) was 97% and 84% respectively. Conclusions: The overall prognosis of GEP-NENs patients showed a decreasing trend with the increase of Ki-67, which confirmed the significance of Ki-67 index as a prognostic marker for the prognosis of GEP-NENs. Increasing the cut-off value of Ki-67 index for G1 grade from ≤2% to <3% according to WHO classification 2019 did not significantly decrease the 5-year survival rate.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Evidence on the effectiveness of vaccination-induced immunity compared to SARS-CoV-2 natural immunity is warranted to inform vaccination recommendations. AIM: In this study, we aimed to conduct a comparative assessment of antibody responses between vaccinated naïve (VN) and unvaccinated naturally infected individuals (NI) over 10 Months. METHOD: The study comprised fully-vaccinated naïve individuals (VN; n = 596) who had no history of SARS-CoV-2 infection, and received two doses of either BNT162b2 or mRNA-1273, and naturally infected individuals who had a documented history of SARS-CoV-2 infection and no vaccination record (NI cohort; n = 218). We measured the levels of neutralizing total antibodies (NtAbs), anti-S-RBD IgG, and anti-S1 IgA titers among VN and NI up to ∼10 months from administration of the first dose, and up to ∼7 months from SARS-CoV-2 infection, respectively. To explore the relationship between the antibody responses and time, Spearman's correlation coefficient was computed. Furthermore, correlations between the levels of NtAbs/anti-S-RBD IgG and NtAbs/anti-S1 IgA were examined through pairwise correlation analysis. RESULTS: Up to six months, VN individuals had a significantly higher NtAb and anti-S-RBD IgG antibody responses compared to NI individuals. At the 7th month, there was a significant decline in antibody responses among VN individuals, but not NI individuals, with a minimum decrease of 3.7-fold (p < 0.001). Among VN individuals, anti-S1 IgA levels began to decrease significantly (1.4-fold; p = 0.007) after two months, and both NtAb and S-RBD IgG levels began to decline significantly (NtAb: 2.0-fold; p = 0.042, S-RBD IgG: 2.4-fold; p = 0.035) after three months. After 10 months, the most significant decline among VN individuals was observed for S-RBD-IgG (30.0-fold; P < 0.001), followed by NtAb (15.7-fold; P < 0.001) and S-IgA (3.7-fold; P < 0.001) (most stable). Moreover, after 5 months, there was no significant difference in the IgA response between the two groups. CONCLUSION: These findings have important implications for policymakers in the development of vaccination strategies, particularly in the consideration of booster doses to sustain long-lasting protection against COVID-19.

RESUMO

Beer is susceptible to mycotoxin contamination originating from infected grains. It could be that mycotoxins are not completely removed during the brewing process and remain in the final product. Nevertheless, there have been no surveys of exposure to mycotoxin for Chinese inhabitants through beer consumption. This study aimed to investigate the presence of eight mycotoxins in 158 beer samples purchased in Shanghai, the largest megacity in China. The multiple mycotoxins determination was carried out using ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS/MS). Our findings revealed that 48.1% (76/158) of the beer samples were contaminated with Fusarium toxins. Deoxynivalenol-3-glucoside (D3G) and zearalenone (ZEN) were detected in 34.81% and 16.46% of the total samples, respectively. The significant differences between D3G/ZEN contamination and various beer types were performed. Furthermore, this study performed a health risk assessment for Shanghai residents based on data for Fusarium toxins and ochratoxin A (OTA) present in beer for the first time. The results revealed that the 95th percentile dietary exposures of Shanghai residents did not pose any chronic or acute health risks, either individually or in combination. Dietary exposures to Fusarium toxins revealed different risk levels among residents. The cumulative health risk for women is higher than that for men at the same beer consumption. In addition, the acute risk of DONs exposure for adults deserves concern. The insights obtained from this study may be of assistance for beer manufacturers and governmental regulators to further develop beer monitoring and guarantee public health.

RESUMO

Aims: Pancreatic cancer (PC) is a malignant tumor with a strong invasive nature and low survival rate. We aimed to estimate the PC burden at the global, regional, and national levels in 204 countries from 1990 to 2019. Methods: Detailed data, including the incidence, death, and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs), were analyzed from the Global Burden of Diseases Study 2019. Results: Globally, there were 530,297 (486,175-573,635) incident cases and 531,107 (491,948-566,537) deaths from PC in 2019. The age-standardized incidence rate (ASIR) was 6.6 (6-7.1), and the age-standardized mortality rate (ASMR) was 6.6 (6.1-7.1) per 100,000 person-years. PC caused 11,549,016 (10,777,405-12,338,912) DALYs, with an age-standardized rate of 139.6 (130.2-149.1) per 100,000 person-years. There were increases in estimated annual percentage changes (EAPCs) of ASIR (0.83; 0.78-0.87), ASMR (0.77; 0.73-0.81), and age-standardized DALYs rate (ASDR) (0.67; 0.63-0.71). The global number of incident cases increased by 168.7%, from 197,348 (188,604-203,971) to 530,297 (486,175-573,635); the number of deaths increased by 168.2% from 198,051 (189,329-204,763) to 531,107 (491,948-566,537); and total DALYs increased by 148.5% from 4,647,207 (4,465,440-4,812,129) to 11,549,016 (10,777,405-12,338,912). East Asia and China recorded the highest number of incident cases, deaths, and DALYs. The proportion of deaths was attributable to smoking (21.4%), elevated fasting glucose (9.1%), and high BMI (6%). Conclusions: Our study updated the epidemiological trends and risk factors for PC. PC remains a major hazard to the sustainability of health systems worldwide, with an increasing incidence rate and mortality from 1990 to 2019. More targeted strategies are required to prevent and treat PC.

RESUMO

Fungicides are widely used to prevent fungal growth and reduce mycotoxin contamination in food, which provides the opportunity for the co-occurrence of mycotoxins and fungicide residues in food and poses a greater risk to human health. To assess the combined effects of a naturally occurring mycotoxin, citrinin (CIT), and a widely used triazole fungicide, triadimefon (TAD) on different biological processes, the comparative toxicogenomics database was used to obtain phenotypes and response genes for CIT or TAD exposure. Then individual and combined exposure models were developed with zebrafish embryos, and the interaction between CIT and TAD was analyzed using the 2 × 2 factorial design approach to observe the toxic effects. Through data mining analysis, our results showed that CIT or TAD exposure is related to different biological phenotypes, such as cell death, regulation of antioxidant systems, and thyroid hormone metabolism. Our results also showed that CIT (4-day LC50 value of 12.7 mg/L) exposure possessed higher toxicity to zebrafish embryos compared with TAD (4-day LC50 value of 29.6 mg/L). Meanwhile, individual exposure to CIT and TAD altered the expression levels of biomarkers related to oxidative stress, inflammation, apoptosis and hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid (HPT) axis. Notably, combined exposure to CIT and TAD induced changes in the mentioned biological processes and had an interactive effect on the expression of multiple biomarkers. In conclusion, we evaluated the toxic effects of CIT and TAD in isolation and combination by in-vivo experiments, which provide a new methodological basis and reference for future risk assessment and setting of safety limits for foodborne toxicants.

RESUMO

To study the distribution, sources, ecological/health risks, and the impact of regional economic variations on polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) contaminations along the coast of the Yellow Sea in China, sediments from a broad coastal coverage were collected and analyzed. The total contents of 16 priority PAHs varied between 1.4 and 1675.9 ng/g except in the site of H18 (3191.4 ng/g) adjacent to Qingdao City, with an average value of 295.7 ng/g. PAH pollution along the coast presented a distinctive geographical feature, which was closely linked to local human activities, such as Rongcheng with industrial zones and aquacultural areas, and Yancheng Wetland with developed aquaculture. The source analysis results indicated that PAHs were mainly from pyrolytic sources, with smaller contributions from petroleum spills and combustion. Risk assessment suggested that PAH pollution along the Yellow Sea coast showed negligible biological risks and health risks in most areas.

RESUMO

Rapid urbanization, industrialization, and agricultural intensification have resulted in serious soil problems, such as soil acidification and cadmium pollution, affecting food security and human health. Wheat is the second largest food crop in China and has a strong accumulation capacity for cadmium. Understanding the influencing factors of cadmium content in wheat grain is crucial to realize the safe production of wheat. However, a comprehensive and quantitative analysis of how soil physicochemical properties and cultivars affect wheat cadmium accumulation is lacking. The Meta-analysis and decision tree analysis of 56 related studies published in the past 10 years showed that the proportion of cadmium content in soil and wheat grain exceeding the national standard was 52.6% and 64.1%, respectively. Among soil physical and chemical properties, pH, organic matter, available phosphorus, and total soil cadmium content were the important factors affecting the cadmium content in wheat grains. When soil pH ≤ 5.5 and 5.5

RESUMO

The risk of exposure to mycotoxins through the consumption of wheat flours has long been a concern. A total of 299 wheat flours marketed in Shanghai Province of China were surveyed and analyzed for the co-occurrence of 13 mycotoxins through an ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) method. The detection rates of mycotoxins in wheat flours ranged from 0.7~74.9% and their average contamination levels in wheat flours (0.2~57.6 µg kg-1) were almost lower than the existing regulations in cereals. However, their co-contamination rate was as high as 98.1%, especially Fusarium and Alternaria mycotoxins. Comparative analysis of different types of wheat flours showed that the average contamination levels in refined wheat flours with low-gluten were lower. Based on these contamination data and the existing consumption data of Shanghai residents, point evaluation and the Monte Carlo assessment model were used to preliminarily evaluate the potential dietary exposure risk. The probable daily intakes of almost all mycotoxins, except for alternariol, were under the health-based guidance values for 90% of different consumer groups. Health risks of dietary exposure to alternariol should be a concern and further studied in conjunction with an internal exposure assessment.

RESUMO

Key nodes of sea lanes are important hubs for global trade and cargo transportation and play important roles in ensuring the safety of maritime transportation and maintaining the stability of the global supply chain. The safety guarantee of key nodes of sea lanes is facing more risks and higher requirements currently because the global shipping industry is gradually recovering. This paper focuses on key nodes of sea lanes, conducting regional security risk assessment and risk spatial scale visualization. A set of security risk assessment and visualization study methods for key nodes of sea lanes is constructed, which includes constructing a security risk assessment index system of key nodes of sea lanes with 25 indicators selected from three risk categories (hazard, vulnerability and exposure, and mitigation capacity) and using geospatial analysis to form the multi-criteria spatial mapping layers and then creating comprehensive risk layers to realize the risk visualization in the strait area by weighted overlaying based on the combined weights calculated by Analytic Hierarchy Process and Grey Relational Analysis. After taking the Tsugaru Strait and Makassar Strait as case studies, the results show that the comprehensive risk layers can effectively present the spatial distribution of security risks of key nodes of sea lanes, reflecting the spatial changes of risk levels (i.e., very low, low, medium, high and very high) and the methods can precisely identify and analyze crucial factors affecting the security risk of key nodes. These findings may strengthen the risk prevention and improve the safety of the navigation environment in the strait to ensure the safety and stability of maritime trade.

RESUMO

Alkylphenols (APs) are ubiquitous and generally present in higher residue levels in the environment. The present work focuses on the development of a set of in silico models to predict the aquatic toxicity of APs with incomplete/unknown toxicity data in aquatic environments. To achieve this, a QSAR-ICE-SSD model was constructed for aquatic organisms by combining quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR), interspecies correlation estimation (ICE), and species sensitivity distribution (SSD) models in order to obtain the hazardous concentrations (HCs) of selected APs. The research indicated that the keywords "alkylphenol" and "nonylphenol" were most commonly studied. The selected ICE models were robust (R2: 0.70-0.99; p-value < 0.01). All models had a high reliability cross- validation success rates (>75%), and the HC5 predicted with the QSAR-ICE-SSD model was 2-fold than that derived with measured experimental data. The HC5 values demonstrated nearly linear decreasing trend from 2-MP to 4-HTP, while the decreasing trend from 4-HTP to 4-DP became shallower, indicates that the toxicity of APs to aquatic organisms increases with the addition of alkyl carbon chain lengths. The ecological risks assessment (ERA) of APs revealed that aquatic organisms were at risk from exposure to 4-NP at most river stations (the highest risk quotient (RQ) = 1.51), with the highest relative risk associated with 2.9% of 4-NP detected in 82.9% of the sampling sites. The targeted APs posed potential ecological risks in the Yongding and Beiyun River according to the mixture ERA. The potential application of QSAR-ICE-SSD models could satisfy the immediate needs for HC5 derivations without the need for additional in vivo testing.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: Dry weight assessment (DWA) is an important part of dialysis and fluid management in patients receiving renal replacement therapy. With the development of bioimpedance analysis (BIA), the development of the direct segmental multi-frequency BIA (DSM-BIA) has provided a more convenient measure for DWA of dialysis patients, but its accuracy remains unclear. This study was designed to evaluate the application of DSM-BIA in DWA of continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) patients. DESIGN: This is a cross-sectional study. Using the conventional BIA as a reference, we examined the accuracy of the DSM-BIA technique for assessing dry weight in CAPD patients and analyzed the potential factors influencing their fluid volume status. SETTING AND PARTICIPANTS: A total of 31 patients with end-stage renal disease receiving CAPD and 310 healthy volunteers were recruited for this study. METHODS: The intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC) and Bland-Altman plots were used to assess the consistency between DSM-BIA and the conventional BIA for DWA. Univariate and multivariate linear regression analyses were used to explore the influencing factors associated with the edema index. RESULTS: DSM-BIA and the conventional BIA technology were consistent in DWA in CAPD patients (ICC female 0.972, ICC male 0.882, ICC total 0.960). Similarly, Bland-Altman plots showed good agreements between the two methods in DWA for both genders. Univariate and multivariate linear regression analysis showed both eGFR level (P = 0.04) and serum NT-pro BNP concentration (P = 0.007) were positively correlated with the ratio of extracellular water to total body water (ECW/TCW). CONCLUSIONS: DSM-BIA in DWA has good accuracy in clinical applications and has potential application value for fluid volume management in CAPD patients.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The difference in epidemiological characteristics of breast cancer (BC) across countries is valuable for BC management and prevention. The study evaluated the up-to-date burden, trends, and risk factors of BC in China, Japan and South Korea during 1990-2019 and predicted the BC burden until 2034. METHODS: Data on incident cases, deaths, disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) and age-standardized rate (ASR) of BC were extracted from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2019. Trend analysis and prediction until 2034 were conducted by estimated annual percentage change and a Bayesian age-period-cohort model, respectively. Besides, the attributable burden to BC risk factors was also estimated. RESULTS: In 2019, the number of BC incident cases, deaths and DALYs in China were 375,484, 96,306 and 2,957,453, respectively. The ASR of incidence increased, while that of death and DALYs decreased for Chinese females and Japanese and South Korean males during 1990-2019. High body-mass-index (BMI) was the largest contributor to Chinese female BC deaths and DALYs, while alcohol use was the greatest risk factor for Japanese and South Korean as well as Chinese males. The incident cases and deaths were expected to continue increase during 2020-2034 (except for Japanese female incident cases). CONCLUSIONS: China had the greatest burden of BC among the three countries. Incident cases and deaths of BC were projected to increase over the next 15 years in China, particularly among Chinese males. Effective prevention and management strategies are urgently necessary for BC control in China.

RESUMO

Pork is one of the most common foods causing microbial foodborne diseases. Since pork directly enters the market after slaughtering, the control of microbial contamination in the slaughtering processes is the key to ensuring the quality and safety of pork. The contamination level of Escherichia coli, a health-indicator bacterium, can reflect the risk level of potential pathogens. In order to assess the E. coli exposure risk of pork during slaughtering and to identify the key control points, we established an E. coli quantitative exposure assessment model for swine-slaughtering processes in slaughterhouses of different sizes. The model simulation data indicated the E. coli contamination pattern on the surfaces of swine carcasses during slaughtering. The changes in E. coli contamination were analyzed according to the simulation data of each slaughtering process. It was found that the number of E. coli after trimming in big and small slaughterhouses increased to the maximum values for the whole processes, which were 3.63 and 3.52 log10 CFU/100 cm2, respectively. The risk contribution of each slaughtering process to the E. coli contamination on the surface of terminal swine carcasses can be determined by correlation analysis. Because the absolute value of correlation coefficient during the trimming process was maximum (0.49), it was regarded as the most important key control point. This result can be further proved via the multilocus sequence typing of E. coli. The dominant sequence type before trimming processes was ST10. ST1434 began to appear in the trimming process and then became the dominant sequence type in the trimming and pre-cooling processes. The model can provide a theoretical basis for microbial hygiene supervision and risk control in swine-slaughtering processes.
