BACKGROUND: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the safety and efficacy of preoperative concurrent chemoradiotherapy (preCRT) for locally advanced rectal cancer in older people who were classified as "fit" by comprehensive geriatric assessment (CGA). METHODS: A single-arm, multicenter, phase II trial was designed. Patients were eligible for this study if they were aged 70 years or above and met the standards of "fit" (SIOG1) as evaluated by CGA and of the locally advanced risk category. The primary endpoint was 2-year disease-free survival (DFS). Patients were scheduled to receive preCRT (50 Gy) with raltitrexed (3 mg/m2 on days 1 and 22). RESULTS: One hundred and nine patients were evaluated by CGA, of whom eighty-six, eleven and twelve were classified into the fit, intermediate and frail category. Sixty-eight fit patients with a median age of 74 years were enrolled. Sixty-four patients (94.1%) finished radiotherapy without dose reduction. Fifty-four (79.3%) patients finished the prescribed raltitrexed therapy as planned. Serious toxicity (grade 3 or above) was observed in twenty-four patients (35.3%), and fourteen patients (20.6%) experienced non-hematological side effects. Within a median follow-up time of 36.0 months (range: 5.9-63.1 months), the 2-year overall survival (OS), cancer-specific survival (CSS) and disease-free survival (DFS) rates were 89.6% (95% CI: 82.3-96.9), 92.4% (95% CI: 85.9-98.9) and 75.6% (95% CI: 65.2-86.0), respectively. Forty-eight patients (70.6%) underwent surgery (R0 resection 95.8%, R1 resection 4.2%), the corresponding R0 resection rate among the patients with positive mesorectal fascia status was 76.6% (36/47). CONCLUSION: This phase II trial suggests that preCRT is efficient with tolerable toxicities in older rectal cancer patients who were evaluated as fit based on CGA. Salt is important for food flavor, but excessive sodium intake leads to adverse health consequences. Thus, salty and saltiness-enhancing peptides are developed for sodium-reduction products. This review elucidates saltiness perception process and analyses correlation between the peptide structure and saltiness-enhancing ability. These peptides interact with taste receptors to produce saltiness perception, including ENaC, TRPV1, and TMC4. This review also outlines preparation, isolation, purification, characterization, screening, and assessment techniques of these peptides and discusses their potential applications. These peptides are from various sources and produced through enzymatic hydrolysis, microbial fermentation, or Millard reaction and then separated, purified, identified, and screened. Sensory evaluation, electronic tongue, bioelectronic tongue, and cell and animal models are the primary saltiness assessment approaches. These peptides can be used in sodium-reduction food products to produce "clean label" items, and the peptides with biological activity can also serve as functional ingredients, making them very promising for food industry.

Collaborative innovation between hospitals and biomedical enterprises is crucial for ensuring breakthroughs in their development. This study explores the structural characteristics and examines the main roles of associated key actors of collaborative innovation between hospitals and biomedical enterprises in China. Using the jointly owned patent data within the country's healthcare industry, a decade-long collaborative innovation network between hospitals and biomedical enterprises in China was established and analyzed through social network analysis. The results revealed that the overall levels of collaborative innovation network density, collaborative frequency, and network connectivity were significantly low, especially in less-developed regions. In terms of actors with higher degree centrality, hospitals accounted for the majority, whereas a biomedical enterprise in Shenzhen had the highest degree centrality. Organizations in underdeveloped and northwest regions and small players were more likely to implement collaborative innovation. In conclusion, a collaborative innovation network between hospitals and biomedical enterprises in China demonstrated high dispersion and poor development levels. Stimulating organizations' initiatives for collaborative innovation may enhance quality and quantity of such innovation. Policy support and economic investments, strategic collaborative help, and resource and partnership optimization, especially for small players and in less-developed and northwest regions, should be encouraged to enhance collaborative innovation between hospitals and the biomedical industry in China and other similar countries or regions.

Risk assessment and adaptation have become key focuses in the examination of urban flooding risk. In recent decades, global climate change has resulted in a high incidence of extreme weather events, notably flooding. This study introduces a spatial multi-indicator model developed for assessing flood risk at the urban agglomeration scale. A crucial addition to the model is the incorporation of an adaptive capacity within the IPCC risk framework. The model systematically considers various flood risk indicators related to the economic, social, and geographic environments of the central and southern Liaoning urban agglomeration (CSLN). It generates a spatial distribution map of integrated flood risk for multiple scenario combinations. Furthermore, the intricate relationship between different risk indicators and flood risk was analyzed using correlation analysis and the Light Gradient Boosting Machine model (Light GBM). The findings reveal notable variations in flood risk under different scenarios. The inclusion of vulnerability indicators increased flood risk by 33 %, while the subsequent inclusion of adaptive indicators decreased flood risk by 45 %. Dense populations and assets contribute to high flood risk, while adaptive capacity significantly mitigates urban flood risk. The framework adopted in this paper can be applied to other areas where urban agglomeration-scale flood risk assessment is needed, and can contribute to advancing scientific research on flood forecasting and mitigation.

In the context of high-quality economic development in China, it is important to promote green innovation development by protecting intellectual property rights (IPR). Taking the pilot policy of the intellectual property courts in Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou for example in a quasi-natural experiment, this article examines the effect of IPR protection on the development of corporate green innovation and its mechanisms by using a difference-in-differences model and a mediating effect model based on Chinese enterprise data from 2011 to 2019. The study found that first, IPR protection promotes enterprise green technological innovation; second, IPR protection affects green innovation through enterprise financing constraints and R&D investment; that is, increasing enterprise R&D investment and alleviating enterprise financing constraints are two important channels through which IPR protection promotes enterprise green technological innovation.

This study was to report proxy measures for mortality risk in patients with hematological malignancies across 185 countries globally and explore its association with their socioeconomic status and treatment. The incidence, mortality, and 5-year prevalence data were extracted from the GLOBOCAN database. The data regarding the human development index (HDI), gross national income (GNI), vulnerability index, and concordance with cancer Essential Medicines List (EML) were obtained from open-source reports. The ratio of mortality to 5-year-prevalence (MPR) and that of mortality to incidence (MIR) were calculated and age-standardized using Segi's world standard population. Finally, the possible associations were assessed using Pearson correlation analyses. In 2020, the global incidence, mortality, and 5-year prevalence of HMs were 1,278,362, 711,840, and 3,616,685, respectively. Global age-standardized MPR and MIR were 0.15 and 0.44, respectively; they varied significantly among 6 regions, 185 countries, 4 HM types, and 4 HDI groups worldwide. Older populations always had higher ratios. The correlation of MPRs and MIRs with HDI, GNI, and concordance with cancer EML was negative, whereas it was positive with the vulnerability index (lower was better). Increasing access to cancer drugs in resource-limited regions with a focus on vulnerable children may aid in reducing HM-related mortality risk.

Medical waste (MW) is exploding due to the COVID-19 pandemic, posing a significant environmental threat, and leading to the urgent requirement for affordable and environmentally friendly MW disposal technologies. Prior research on individual MW disposal plants is region-specific, applying these results to other regions may introduce bias. In this study, major MW disposal technologies in China, i.e., incineration technologies (pyrolysis incineration and rotary kiln incineration), and sterilization technologies (steam sterilization, microwave sterilization, and chemical disinfection) with residue landfill or incineration were analyzed from an industry-level perspective via life cycle assessment (LCA), life cycle costing (LCC) and net present value (NPV) methods. Life cycle inventories and economic cost data for 4-5 typical companies were selected from 128 distinct enterprises and academic sources for each technology. LCA results show that microwave sterilization with residue incineration has the lowest environmental impact, emitting only 480 kg CO2 eq. LCC and NPV analyses indicate that steam sterilization with landfilling is the most economical, yielding revenues of 1,210 CNY/t and breaking even in the first year. Conversely, pyrolysis and rotary kiln incineration break even between the 4th and 5th years. Greenhouse gas emissions from the MW disposal in ten cities with the largest MW production in 2020 increased by 7% over 2019 to 43,800 tons and other pollutants increased by 6% to 12%. Economically, Shanghai exhibits the highest cost-effectiveness, while Nanjing delivers the lowest. It can be observed that the adoption of optimal environmental technologies has resulted in a diminution of greenhouse gas emissions by 279,000 tons and energy conservation of 1.76 billion MJ.

OBJECTIVES: Rural older adults who require transportation assistance face more challenges than their urban counterparts. By focusing on a historically underserved population, this study examined specific barriers from the perspective of older adult users and explored potential policy and technology solutions. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted throughout rural Wisconsin to identify specific barriers to transportation, uncover personal factors associated with identified barriers, and measure causal relationships between identified barriers and travel satisfaction. RESULTS: A total of 580 older adult respondents from 92% of rural counties across the state provided clear answers regarding specific transportation barriers. Of these, 67.6% identified at least one barrier, but only 12.8% had stopped using transportation due to any identified barriers. Top barriers to accessing transportation included service hours, service areas, trip destinations, getting in/out of service vehicles, service reservations, and operational scheduling. Although specific barriers were associated with different sociodemographics, trip purposes, and frequency of transportation usage, logistic regression findings suggested that concerns about service hours, service areas, and service reservation were the only 3 major determinants driving rural older adults' attitudes toward transportation usage. DISCUSSION: Rural older adults relying on transportation assistance have demonstrated diverse needs and constraints. Rural transportation could provide better support by extending service availability in terms of hours, areas, and destinations, improving door-to-door accessibility by providing "arm through arm" services, enhancing service responsiveness and reliability via age-friendly technology solutions, and implementing a sliding scale subsidy program that takes income level and trip frequency into account.

BACKGROUND: As China's aging population continues to grow, the prevalence of mental illness among the seniors has been steadily increasing. The aim of this study is to reveal the changing trends and characteristics of economic burden among seniors patients with long-term hospitalization for mental illness, and to analyze the influencing factors. METHODS: The data for this study were gathered from seniors' patients with mental illness who were hospitalized and aged 60 years or older. The patients were admitted to four specialized and general hospitals located in Dalian city between January 2018 and December 2020. The types of diseases include affective mental disorders (mood disorders), Schizophrenia, schizotypal, and delusional disorders, Organic (including symptomatic) mental disorders, Neurotic, stress-related and somatoform disorders, Mental retardation, Mental and behavioral disorders due to substance use. (Identify the main diagnosis at discharge using ICD-10 coding). This study analyzed the basic characteristics and disease-related information of seniors patients with long-term psychiatric disorders who were hospitalized, and explored the factors influencing hospitalization costs among patients with different illnesses. RESULTS: Among the 3871 study subjects, the average length of hospital stay was 127.51 days. The average hospitalization expenses per case were 33,656.07 yuan. Seniors' patients with mental illness who receives treatment in specialized hospitals have higher hospitalization costs. Long-term hospitalization increases the total hospitalization costs. Age has an impact on hospitalization costs for patients with organic mental disorders. Patients with affective disorders (mood disorders) and neurotic, stress-related, and somatoform disorders who are covered by urban employee medical insurance have higher hospitalization costs.Patients with severe psychiatric disorders who have a 31-day readmission plan, as well as senior patients with somatoform disorders comorbid with other illnesses, incur higher hospitalization costs. CONCLUSIONS: We should take corresponding measures to reduce the number of readmissions for patients with severe mental illnesses. The impact of treatment methods and differences in healthcare institutions on total hospitalization costs deserves further research. It is necessary to strengthen the prevention and diagnosis of comorbid physical illnesses in patients with mental disorders. The burden of mental illnesses in the seniors is significant, and medical insurance policies should be inclined towards providing support.

RESUMO

IMPORTANCE: We established the largest Salmonella genome database from China and presented the landscape and spatiotemporal dynamics of antimicrobial resistance genes. We also found that economic, climatic, and social factors can drive the rise of antimicrobial resistance. The Chinese local Salmonella genome database version 2 was released as an open-access database (https://nmdc.cn/clsgdbv2) and thus can assist surveillance studies across the globe. This database will help inform interventions for AMR, food safety, and public health.

Objective: Hospital-associated venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a major cause of unintended death in hospitalized patients. Standardized and reasonable prevention measures may reduce its occurrence effectively. This study aims to analyze the consistency of VTE risk assessment by physicians and nurses and its potential causes. Methods: A total of 897 patients admitted to Shanghai East Hospital from December 2021 to March 2022 were recruited. The VTE assessment scores of physicians and nurses and the activities of daily living (ADL) scores within the first 24 h of admission were collected for each patient. Cohen's Kappa values were calculated to assess the inter-rater consistency of these scores. Results: VTE scores were fairly consistent between doctors and nurses in both surgical (Kappa = 0.30, 95% CI: 0.25-0.34) and non-surgical (Kappa = 0.35, 95% CI: 0.31-0.38) departments. There was moderate agreement in VTE risk assessment between doctors and nurses in surgical departments (Kappa = 0.50, 95% CI: 0.38-0.62) while fair agreement in VTE risk assessment between doctors and nurses in non-surgical departments (Kappa = 0.32, 95% CI: 0.26-0.40). The assessment of the mobility impairment component was fairly consistent between doctors and nurses in the non-surgical departments (Kappa = 0.31, 95% CI: 0.25-0.37). Conclusion: Due to the poor consistency of VTE risk assessment between doctors and nurses, it is necessary to provide systematic training and develop a standardized assessment process for healthcare professionals to construct a scientific and effective VTE prevention and treatment system.

Wheat leaf rust, caused by Puccinia triticina f. sp. tritici (Pt), is distributed widely in wheat-producing areas and results in serious yield losses worldwide. In China, leaf rust has been largely controlled with a demethylation inhibitor (DMI) fungicide, triadimefon. Although high levels of fungicide resistance in pathogens have been reported, no field failure of wheat leaf rust to DMI fungicides has been reported in China. A resistance risk assessment of triadimefon to Pt was investigated in the present study. The sensitivity of 197 Pt isolates across the country to triadimefon was determined, and the density distribution of EC50 values (concentration at which mycelial growth is inhibited by 50%) showed a continuous multimodal curve because of the extensive use of this fungicide in wheat production, with a mean value of 0.46 µg/ml. The majority of the tested Pt isolates were sensitive to triadimefon, whereas 10.2% developed varying degrees of resistance. Characterization of parasitic fitness revealed that the triadimefon-resistant isolates exhibited strong adaptive traits in urediniospore germination rate, latent period, sporulation intensity, and lesion expansion rate. No correlation was observed between triadimefon and tebuconazole and hexaconazole, which have the similar mode of action, or pyraclostrobin and flubeneteram, which have different modes of action. Overexpression of the target gene Cyp51 led to the triadimefon resistance of Pt. The risk of resistance to triadimefon in Pt may be low to moderate. This study provided important data for fungicide resistance risk management against wheat leaf rust.

With the new generation of technological revolution, the digital economy has progressively become a key driver of global economic development. In this context, how to promote green economic growth and improve green total factor productivity (GTFP) with the help of the digital economy is an important issue that urgently needs empirical research. We adopted the panel data of 278 Chinese prefecture-level cities from 2011 to 2020 to test whether the digital economy improves the GTFP through the Gaussian Mixed Model (GMM) dynamic panel model. The moderating effect model has been used to explore the impact mechanism from the perspectives of industrial structure upgrade and environmental regulation. In addition, a grouping regression was applied to the sample cities to test the heterogeneous impact of the digital economy on the GTFP. Based upon the empirical findings, this work has the following conclusions. First, the digital economy plays a significant role in improving the GTFP. Second, an industrial structure upgrade has a positive moderating effect on the ability of the digital economy to enhance the GTFP. The environmental regulation, in contrast, has a negative moderating effect. Third, the digital economy exerts heterogeneous impacts on the GTFP across regions, but not at the city level.

BACKGROUND: Despite the fact that stroke is the second leading cause of death globally, a comprehensive and comparable assessment of mortality, and epidemiologic trends has not been conducted for most regions.We estimated the global and regional burden of stroke from 1990 to 2019 using data from the 2019 Global Study of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors. METHODS: For the period between 1990 and 2019, we used an age-period-cohort model to calculate the annual percentage changes in mortality (net drifts), local drifts, and period and cohort relative risks (period/cohort effects). Meanwhile, to quantify the temporal trends in stroke age-standardised mortality rate (ASMR), Average annual percentage changes (AAPCs) were determined by sex, area. With the potential to uncover disparities and treatment gaps in stroke care, this approach enables the examination and differentiation of age, period, and cohort effects in mortality trends. FINDINGS: Global stroke deaths in 2019 were 6,552,725 (95% UI 5,995,200 to 7,015,139). Between 1990 and 2019, the ASMR declined globally by 36.43% (95% UI -41.65 to -31.2), with decreases in all SDI quintiles. The net drift in stroke mortality from 1990 to 2019 varied from -2.83% per year (95% confidence interval [CI]:-3.39 to -2.77) in countries with a high Socio-demographic Index (SDI) to -1.21% per year (95% CI: -1.26 to -1.16) in countries with a low SDI. During the past 30 years, favorable mortality reductions were generally found in high-SDI countries (net drift = -3.1% [95% CI: -3.4 to -2.8] per year) and high-middle SDI countries (-2.8% [-3.0 to -2.6]). However, 31 of 204 countries had either increasing trends (net drifts≥0.0%) or stagnated reductions (≥ - 0.5%) in mortality. The relative risk of mortality generally showed improving trends over time and in successively younger birth cohorts among high and high-middle SDI countries, with the exceptions of Kuwait, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Guam, RussianFederation, Lithuania, Turkey, Montenegro, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovin, and Bulgaria. INTERPRETATION: Notwithstanding mortality from stroke has increased globally over the past 30 years, adverse period and cohort effects have been found in many countries, calling into question the adequacy of healthcare for stroke patients of all ages. These lapses have a significant impact on the likelihood of achieving the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) targets on mortality from age 60+ and NCDs.

Background: Atezolizumab may provide clinical benefits to patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). However, the price of atezolizumab is relatively high, and its economic outcomes have remained unclear. In this study, we used two models to examine the cost-effectiveness of initial atezolizumab monotherapy versus chemotherapy for patients with PD-L1 high-expressing EGFR and ALK wild-type advanced NSCLC in the context of the Chinese healthcare system. Methods: Partitioned Survival model and Markov model were performed to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of first-line single-agent atezolizumab versus platinum-based chemotherapy for patients with advanced NSCLC with PD-L1 high-expressing EGFR and ALK wild-type disease. Clinical outcomes and safety information were obtained from the most recent data from the IMpower110 trial, while cost and utility values were obtained from Chinese hospitals and relevant literature. Total costs, life years (LYs), quality-adjusted life years (QALYs), and incremental cost-effectiveness ratios (ICERs) were estimated. One-way and probabilistic sensitivity analyses were performed to explore model uncertainty. Scenario analyses were also conducted for the Patient Assistance Program (PAP) and various provinces in China. Results: In the Partitioned Survival model, the total cost of atezolizumab was $145,038, providing 2.92 LYs and 2.39 QALYs, while the total cost of chemotherapy was $69,803, providing 2.12 LYs and 1.65 QALYs. The ICER for atezolizumab versus chemotherapy was $102,424.83/QALY; in the Markov model, the ICER was $104,806.71/QALY. Atezolizumab was not cost-effective at the WTP threshold of three times China's per capita gross domestic product (GDP). Sensitivity analysis showed that the cost of atezolizumab, the utility of PFS, and the discount rate had a significant impact on ICER; PAP significantly reduced ICER, but atezolizumab was still not cost-effective in China. Conclusion: First-line monotherapy with atezolizumab for patients with PD-L1 high-expressing EGFR and ALK wild-type advanced NSCLC was estimated to be less cost-effective than chemotherapy in terms of the Chinese healthcare system; offering PAP increased the likelihood that atezolizumab would be cost-effective. In some areas of China with higher levels of economic development, atezolizumab was likely to be cost-effective. To improve the cost-effectiveness of atezolizumab, drug prices would need to be reduced.

Objective: To quantitatively characterize the dosimetric effects of long on-couch time in prostate cancer patients treated with adaptive ultra-hypofractionated radiotherapy (UHF-RT) on 1.5-Tesla magnetic resonance (MR)-linac. Materials and methods: Seventeen patients consecutively treated with UHF-RT on a 1.5-T MR-linac were recruited. A 36.25 Gy dose in five fractions was delivered every other day with a boost of 40 Gy to the whole prostate. We collected data for the following stages: pre-MR, position verification-MR (PV-MR) in the Adapt-To-Shape (ATS) workflow, and 3D-MR during the beam-on phase (Bn-MR) and at the end of RT (post-MR). The target and organ-at-risk contours in the PV-MR, Bn-MR, and post-MR stages were projected from the pre-MR data by deformable image registration and manually adapted by the physician, followed by dose recalculation for the ATS plan. Results: Overall, 290 MR scans were collected (85 pre-MR, 85 PV-MR, 49 Bn-MR and 71 post-MR scans). With a median on-couch time of 49 minutes, the mean planning target volume (PTV)-V95% of all scans was 97.83 ± 0.13%. The corresponding mean clinical target volume (CTV)-V100% was 99.93 ± 0.30%, 99.32 ± 1.20%, 98.59 ± 1.84%, and 98.69 ± 1.85%. With excellent prostate-V100% dose coverage, the main reason for lower CTV-V100% was slight underdosing of seminal vesicles (SVs). The median V29 Gy change in the rectal wall was -1% (-20%-17%). The V29 Gy of the rectal wall increased by >15% was observed in one scan. A slight increase in the high dose of bladder wall was noted due to gradual bladder growth during the workflow. Conclusions: This 3D-MR-based dosimetry analysis demonstrated clinically acceptable estimated dose coverage of target volumes during the beam-on period with adaptive ATS workflow on 1.5-T MR-linac, albeit with a relatively long on-couch time. The 3-mm CTV-PTV margin was adequate for prostate irradiation but occasionally insufficient for SVs. More attention should be paid to restricting high-dose RT to the rectal wall when optimizing the ATS plan.

The use of 3-dimensional (3-D) printing is gaining popularity in life sciences and driving innovation in fields including aquatic sperm cryopreservation. Yet, little is known about the effects leachates from these objects may have on biological systems. In this study, we investigated if exposure to leachates from 3-D printed objects fabricated from different photo-curable resins could affect sperm quality in two model fish species, zebrafish (Danio rerio) and goldfish (Carassius auratus). Leachates were collected following contact periods of 10 min and 22 h with objects manufactured using a mask LCD resin printer and three different commercially available resins (i.e., standard, eco-friendly, and impact-resistant). Sperm cells were exposed to the leachates for 18 min, and parameters related to sperm motility, cell count, and membrane integrity were evaluated. All experiments were blinded. Leachate originating from contact with impact-resistant resin for 10 min significantly reduced the cell count of zebrafish sperm, while leachate originating from contact with standard resin for 22 h significantly increased the beat cross frequency of goldfish sperm. The changes were not observed across species and no adverse effects were recorded in percent motility, velocity, amplitude of lateral head movement, or membrane integrity of sperm. Our findings demonstrate that exposure to leachates from certain 3-D printed resins can affect sperm quality, while other resins may support sperm quality evaluation. Further investigations are warranted to assess other parameters, effects, and their biological relevance for a variety of aquatic species.

About 10% efficient antimony selenosulfide (Sb2 (S,Se)3 ) solar cell is realized by using selenourea as a hydrothermal raw material to prepare absorber layers. However, tailoring the bandgap of hydrothermal-based Sb2 (S,Se)3 film to the ideal bandgap (1.3-1.4 eV) using the selenourea for optimal efficiency is still a challenge. Moreover, the expensive selenourea dramatically increases the fabricating cost. Here, a straightforward one-step hydrothermal method is developed to prepare high-quality Sb2 (S,Se)3 films using a novel precursor sodium selenosulfate as the selenium source. By tuning the Se/(Se+S) ratio in the hydrothermal precursor solution, a series of high-quality Sb2 (S,Se)3 films with reduced density of deep defect states and tunable bandgap from 1.31 to 1.71 eV is successfully prepared. Consequently, the best efficiency of 10.05% with a high current density of 26.01 mA cm-2 is achieved in 1.35 eV Sb2 (S,Se)3 solar cells. Compared with the traditional method using selenourea, the production cost for the Sb2 (S,Se)3  devices is reduced by over 80%. In addition, the device exhibits outstanding stability, maintaining more than 93% of the initial power conversion efficiency after 30 days of exposure in the atmosphere without encapsulation. The present work definitely paves a facile and effective way to develop low-cost and high-efficiency chalcogenide-based photovoltaic devices.

Carbon regulation and the mechanism of carbon emission right motivate firms with high carbon consumption and emission to transition to a production and operation model with higher carbon usage. Green technology innovation is the usual way out, with carbon performance metrics serving as guideposts along the route. The intersection of the two topics is the focus of this study. The carbon performance evaluation is optimized by taking carbon asset variance into account. This criteria investigates investment in green technology innovation for its relationship with carbon performance, and investment plans are assessed and determined for the optimum carbon performance based on a stochastic model using geometric Brownian motion for Monte Carlo simulation and prediction. Strategy design of green technology investment is optimized by comparison among a series of proposed schemes, and the conclusions based on case study are applicable for similar situations of enterprises with carbon consumption. The following are the ways in which this research contributes. 1) Improvement of the carbon performance measure by the addition of carbon asset modifications. 2) The practical application of carbon performance, which serves to direct management practice, is illustrated and realized.

In this study, an inexact fuzzy-flexible left-hand-side chance-constrained programming (IFLCCP) method is proposed for optimizing an agricultural nonpoint-source water quality management problem under uncertainty. The developed method can address complex uncertainties resulted from system fuzzy flexible under various level of decision-making requirements and randomness parameters appeared on the left-hand side of the constraints, and deal with the conflict between water quality protection and agricultural system economic development. The IFLCCP model is formulated through incorporating inexact left-hand-sided chance-constrained programming into interval fuzzy flexible programming framework. The decision schemes obtained by the IFLCCP are analyzed under scenarios at different confidence level of environmental constraint. The results demonstrate that the scale of crop planting and breeding industries reduces as the confidence coefficient of environmental constraint (1-pi) increases, in order to satisfy pollutant discharge constraints, which results in the reduction of the system net benefit from scenarios 1 to 3. Meanwhile, the interval control variables λ± are introduced for quantifying the degrees of overall satisfaction for the objective function and the constraints, which get optimal adjustment to guarantee the net benefit to be as close as possible to the upper bound. The IFLCCP is able to provide management schemes with high system benefits under different levels of acceptable environmental risk, taking full consideration of decision makers' environmental management requirements. This study is a new application of the IFLCCP model to agricultural water quality management problem, demonstrating its applicability to practical environmental problems with high complexity and uncertainty.
