RESUMO

In order to study the status and sources of heavy metal pollution in Yinchuan Yellow River floodplain soils, we used inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) to determine the presence of eight heavy metals in 92 soil samples from the Yinchuan Yellow River floodplain and used enrichment factors, geological accumulation index, and potential ecological risk index to analyze and evaluate the characteristics of heavy metal pollution in the study area. Combined correlation analysis, absolute factor analysis-multiple linear regression model (APCS-MLR), positive matrix factorization (PMF), and geostatistics were used to analyze the sources of soil heavy metals. The results showed that the content of eight heavy metals in the surface soil of the Yellow River floodplain in Yinchuan City were lower than the screening value of soil pollution risk in agricultural land; Cu and Pb contents were lower than the background value of Yinchuan City soil, and the contents of the remaining six elements were higher than the background value. The coefficients of variation of Zn and Cd were large and in the medium variation level and were influenced by anthropogenic activities. The heavy metal content varied between different land types and generally showed that wasteland > abandoned farmland > woodland > cultivated land. The average content of Cu and Pb in forest and arable soils was lower than the regional background value, whereas the rest of the heavy metals in different land types were higher than the soil background value. The analysis of enrichment factors showed that Zn and Cd were slightly enriched in the study area, and the cumulative index method and the evaluation of the potential risk of single heavy metals indicated that more than 60% of the sites in the study area were contaminated with Cd at a medium or higher potential ecological hazard. The comprehensive evaluation results of potential ecological risk showed that the overall ecological risk level of the study area was mild. From the distribution of heavy metal ecological risk comprehensive index sample points, only one point was in moderate ecological hazard, and the pollution point showed very few. Comprehensive correlation analysis, APCS-MLR model, PMF model, and geostatistical analysis results confirmed that Zn and Cd in the study area were mainly derived from human activities such as agricultural activities and transportation, and the remaining heavy metals were derived from soil parent materials. The results of this study can provide a scientific basis for the ecological protection and sustainable development of the Yellow River in Yinchuan City.

RESUMO

The construction of urban ecological green wedges, which can mitigate the heat island effect through cooling and ventilation effects, is an important way to enhance the adaptation of cities to climate change. Dynamic monitoring and periodic assessment of both the conservation status and cooling effect of ecological green wedges is a key to ensure the heat mitigation benefits. Based on multi-source remote sensing data, we systematically analyzed the land use changes of six ecological green wedges in Wuhan in 2013 and 2020 using the methods of Markov transfer matrix, land use dynamics, and comprehensive index of land use degree, and evaluated the changes in surface temperature of the ecological green wedges and their cooling island effect. Results showed that the ecological green wedges in Wuhan generally had a large amount of construction land encroaching on ecological land from 2013 to 2020, with the water decreased the most. With the continuous deterioration of ecological green wedges, their land surface temperatures showed rising trends, together with significant weakening trends in cooling island effects. Among all the six wedges, the Dadonghu, Tangxun, and Wuhu exhibited relatively better ecological conservation, slighter land use change and lower overall development degree. Qinglinghu and Houguanhu demonstrated average levels of conservation. Fuhe experienced the most severe change under the significant influence of the westward policy of Wuhan City, with the proportion of water decreasing by 7.1%, warming up by 3.00 ℃, and the largest reduction in cooling distance for the cooling island effect, amounting to about 210 m. The results provided scientific evidence for the urban heat island mitigation-oriented planning and management of ecological green wedges for Wuhan City.

RESUMO

The rice leaf folder, Cnaphalocrocis medinalis (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae), is a notorious pest of rice in Asia. The larvae and adults of C. medinalis utilize specialized chemosensory systems to adapt to different environmental odors and physiological behaviors. However, the differences in chemosensory genes between the olfactory organs of these two different developmental stages remain unclear. Here, we conducted a transcriptome analysis of larvae heads, male antennae, and female antennae in C. medinalis and identified 131 putative chemosensory genes, including 32 OBPs (8 novel OBPs), 23 CSPs (2 novel CSPs), 55 ORs (17 novel ORs), 19 IRs (5 novel IRs) and 2 SNMPs. Comparisons between larvae and adults of C. medinalis by transcriptome and RT-qPCR analysis revealed that the number and expression of chemosensory genes in larval heads were less than that of adult antennae. Only 17 chemosensory genes (7 OBPs and 10 CSPs) were specifically or preferentially expressed in the larval heads, while a total of 101 chemosensory genes (21 OBPs, 9 CSPs, 51 ORs, 18 IRs, and 2 SNMPs) were specifically or preferentially expressed in adult antennae. Our study found differences in chemosensory gene expression between larvae and adults, suggesting their specialized functions at different developmental stages of C. medinalis. These results provide a theoretical basis for screening chemosensory genes as potential molecular targets and developing novel management strategies to control C. medinalis.

RESUMO

Organophosphate esters(OPEs), as a substitute for brominated flame retardants, are widely used in production and life, and their environmental pollution and toxic effects have attracted widespread attention. In this study, the concentrations and distribution characteristics of OPEs in seven major drainage basins of China were sorted out. The average daily dose of OPEs in Chinese adults, adolescents, and children was calculated to assess the health risks, and the reliability of the results was evaluated using Monte Carlo simulation. The toxic effect concentrations of 12 OPEs on aquatic organisms were investigated, and the species sensitivity distribution(SSD) curve was constructed to assess the ecological risk. The results showed that the 5th percentile concentration of ΣOPEs in the seven drainage basins was 52.61 ng·L-1 under the low exposure scenario. The median concentration of ΣOPEs in the seven basins was 499.74 ng·L-1, with trichloroethyl phosphate(TCEP), triethyl phosphate(TEP), and triethyl phosphate(1,3-dichloro-2-propyl) esters(TDCP) as the main contaminants. Under the high exposure scenario, the 95th percentile concentration of ΣOPEs in the seven basins was 1904.4 ng·L-1, 3.8 times that of the intermediate exposure scenario, and the Yangtze River Basin had the highest ΣOPEs concentration under the high exposure scenario. The health risk assessment showed that the non-carcinogenic risk of OPEs exposure through drinking water was within acceptable limits for different populations. Trimethyl phosphate(TMP), triisobutyl phosphate(TiBP), and TCEP were the main contributors to cancer risk. The results of ecological risk assessment showed that TCEP had medium ecological risk at the high exposure level, tributyl phosphate(TnBP) had medium ecological risk under the intermediate exposure scenario, and there was higher ecological risk under the high exposure scenario. Triphenyl phosphate(TPhP) had a risk quotient greater than 1 under the low, intermediate, and high exposure scenarios, and there was a high ecological risk, which requires special attention.

RESUMO

Background: Young children have a great disease burden and are particularly vulnerable to influenza. This study aimed to assess the direct effect of influenza vaccination among children and to evaluate the indirect benefit of immunizing children. Methods: The influenza vaccination records for all children born during 2013-2019 in Minhang District and surveillance data for reported influenza cases were obtained from the Minhang CDC. 17,905 children were recorded in the vaccination system and included in this study. Descriptive epidemiology methods were used for data analysis, including an ecological approach to estimate the number of influenza cases averted by vaccination and linear regression to estimate the reduction in influenza cases in the general population per thousand additional childhood vaccination doses. Results: During the study period, the annual vaccination coverage rate ranged from 10.40% in 2013-2014 to 27.62% in 2015-2016. The estimated number of influenza cases averted by vaccination ranged from a low of 0.28 (range: 0.23-0.34) during 2013-2014 (PF: 6.15%, range: 5.11-7.38%) to a high of 15.34 (range: 12.38-18.51) during 2017-2018 (PF: 16.54%, range: 13.79-19.30%). When increasing vaccination coverage rate by 10% in each town/street, a ratio of 7.27-10.69% cases could be further averted on the basis of observed cases. In four selected periods, the number of influenza cases in the general population was most significantly correlated with the cumulative childhood vaccination doses in the prior 2-5 months, and the reduction in influenza cases ranged from 0.73 to 3.18 cases per thousand additional childhood vaccination doses. Conclusion: Influenza vaccination among children is estimated to have direct effects in terms of averted cases and might provide an underlying indirect benefit to the general population. Vaccination coverage in high-coverage areas should be further expanded to avert more influenza cases.

RESUMO

The emission of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs) from solid waste incineration is always a crucial concern for the society. Less attention has been paid to differentiate its formation and migration in the low temperature range of economizer, leading to a fuzzy understanding on the control of PCDD/Fs before flue gas cleaning. This study first reveals the buffering effect against PCDD/Fs in the economizer, which is contrary to the well-known memory effect, and first recognizes the intrinsic mechanism by 36 sets of full-scale experimental data under three typical operating conditions. Results indicated that the buffering effect, which includes interception and releasing, could remove averagely 82.9 % of PCDD/Fs in flue gas and reconcile PCDD/Fs profiles. The interception effect is dominant and in compliance with the condensation law. The low temperature range of economizer is exactly suitable for the condensation of lowly chlorinated congeners, which condense behind highly chlorinated ones. The releasing effect was non-staple but stimulated by the sudden change of operating condition, proving that PCDD/Fs formation rarely exists in the economizer. The buffering effect is mainly controlled by the physical migration of PCDD/Fs among different phases. The condensation of PCDD/Fs leads to their migration from vapor phase to aerosol and solid phases during flue gas cooling in the economizer. There is no need for excessive anxiety about PCDD/Fs formation in the economizer because it rarely exists. Intensifying the condensation process of PCDD/Fs in the economizer can help relieve the pressure of end-of-pipe measures for PCDD/Fs control.

RESUMO

Since May 2022, human mpox cases have increased unexpectedly in non-endemic countries. The first imported case of human mpox in Hong Kong was reported in September 2022. Here we report the isolation and identification of MPXV from the vesicle swabs of this patient. In this research, the vesicle swabs were inoculated in Vero and Vero E6 cells. In addition to observing cytopathic effects (CPEs) in Vero or Vero E6 cells, the isolated virus was identified as mpox virus (MPXV) using quantitative Real-Time PCR (RT-PCR), transmission electron microscopy, and high-throughput sequencing. The experiment also assessed the cross-protective efficacy of sera from the smallpox vaccinated population and preliminarily assessed the inhibitory effect of anti-smallpox virus drugs against MPXV. CPEs can be observed on Vero E6 cells at 24 h and Vero cells at 48 h. The virus particles could be observed by transmission electron microscope, showing typical orthopoxvirus morphology. In addition, F3L and ATI genes which from MPXV A39R, B2R, HA genes which from orthopoxvirus were confirmed by conventional PCR and Sanger sequencing. The next generation sequencing (NGS) suggests that the MPXV strain belongs to B.1 branch of the West African linage, and has a high identity with the sequence of the 2022 ongoing outbreak. PRNT50 results showed that 26.7% of sera from individuals born before 1981 who had been immunized with smallpox were positive, but no MPXV-neutralizing antibodies were found in sera from individuals born later. All four anti-smallpox virus drugs evaluated demonstrated inhibition of mpox virus.

RESUMO

As a type of emerging pollutant, organophosphate esters (OPEs) have the characteristics of toxicity, persistence, and bioaccumulation. Due to their wide use in production and life, OPEs pose potential risks to ecosystems when they enter the environment. In this study, the concentrations of 14 species of OPEs in surface water were determined using UPLC-MS/MS, and the spatial distribution of the OPEs in the surface water of the estuary of the Yellow River basin was further analyzed. The pollution sources were analyzed using correlation analysis and principal component analysis, and the ecological risk was evaluated. The results indicated that the concentration of Σ14OPEs in surface water ranged from 183.81 to 1674.52 ng·L-1, with an average concentration of 638.25 ng·L-1. Tris(2-chloroethyl) phosphate (TCEP) and tris(1-chloro-2-propanyl) phosphate (TCPP) were the main OPEs. The Xiaoqing River flowing through the urban area differed from the main stream of the Yellow River and other branches in terms of OPEs composition characteristics, which showed a greater impact from human activities. The distribution of Σ14OPEs showed an obvious regional pattern, with a trend of increasing and then decreasing along the direction of the Yellow River inlet. The results of source analysis revealed that human activities such as industrial wastewater discharge from different industries, transportation, and atmospheric deposition were the sources of OPEs in surface water. The ecological risk assessment results indicated that TCEP posed a high risk to aquatic organisms in the main stream of the Yellow River, Xiaoqing River, and Zhimai River, and tri-n-butyl phosphate (TnBP) and triphenyl phosphate (TPhP) posed a low risk at some sites.

RESUMO

AIM: To describe burden, and to explore cross-country inequalities across sociodemographic development levels for four autoimmune diseases (ADs) including rheumatoid arthritis (RA), inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), multiple sclerosis (MS) and psoriasis (PS). METHODS: The estimates and their 95% uncertainty interval (UI) for disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) of RA, IBD, MS and PS were extracted from the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD) 2019. Age-standardized DALYs rate (ASDR) across 204 countries, as well as age and sex distribution of global DALYs rate of these four ADs were illustrated. Slope index of inequality and concentration index, which are two standard metrics of absolute and relative gradient inequality recommended by World Health Organization (WHO), were utilized to quantify the distributive inequalities in the burden of ADs. RESULTS: In 2019, the ASDR of RA, IBD, MS and PS varied remarkably across 204 countries, with different age and sex distribution of global DALYs rate. The slope index of inequality changed from 26.7 (95% CI: 20.7 to 32.8) in 1990 to 40.3 (95% CI: 31.9 to 48.7) in 2019 for RA, from 17.1 (95% CI: 12.4 to 21.7) in 1990 to 25.2 (95% CI: 20.1 to 30.2) in 2019 for IBD, from 19.3 (95% CI: 15.2 to 23.4) in 1990 to 28.9 (95% CI: 24.2 to 33.5) in 2019 for MS, from 42.3 (95% CI: 33.1 to 51.6) in 1990 to 40.2 (95% CI: 32.5 to 48.0) in 2019 for PS. Moreover, the concentration index showed 20.4 (95% CI: 18.9 to 22.0) in 1990 and 18.2 (95% CI: 16.7 to 19.6) in 2019 for RA, 25.0 (95% CI: 23.0 to 27.1) in 1990 and 33.5 (95% CI: 31.6 to 35.5) in 2019 for IBD, 46.7 (95% CI: 44.0 to 49.3) in 1990 and 41.8 (95% CI: 39.6 to 44.1) in 2019 for MS, 31.7 (95% CI: 29.0 to 34.4) in 1990 and 32.6 (95% CI: 29.9 to 35.2) in 2019 for PS. CONCLUSIONS: There is a strong heterogeneity in ASDR across all countries, as well as in age and sex distribution of global DALYs rate for four ADs including RA, IBD, MS and PS. Countries with higher sociodemographic development levels shouldered disproportionately higher burden of ADs, and the magnitude of this sociodemographic development level-related inequalities exacerbated over time.

RESUMO

Currently, the research or publications related to the clinical comprehensive evaluation of Chinese patent medicine are increasing, which attracts the broad attention of all circles. According to the completed clinical evaluation report on Chinese patent medicine, there are still practical problems and technical difficulties such as unclear responsibility of the evaluation organization, unclear evaluation subject, miscellaneous evaluation objects, and incomplete and nonstandard evaluation process. In terms of evaluation standards and specifications, there are different types of specifications or guidelines with different emphases issued by different academic groups or relevant institutions. The professional guideline is required to guide the standardized and efficient clinical comprehensive evaluation of Chinese patent medicine and further improve the authority and quality of evaluation. In combination with the characteristics of Chinese patent medicine and the latest research achievement at home and abroad, the detailed specifications were formulated from six aspects including design, theme selection, content and index, outcome, application and appraisal, and quality control. The guideline was developed based on the guideline development requirements of China Assoication of Chinese medicine. After several rounds of expert consensus and public consultation, the current version of the guideline has been developed.

RESUMO

The green economy is essential in supporting sustainable economic development and relies on talents and technologies. From the perspective of traditional economic theory, this study explores the impact of high-speed rail and innovation on the green economy from the perspectives of talent and technology. Using the data of 281 prefecture-level cities in China from 2008 to 2018, this study constructs empirical models to discuss the driving factors of the green economy. Empirical results show that high-speed rail and innovation can promote the development of a green economy, and the opening of high-speed rail can strengthen the positive association between innovation and a green economy. The accessibility of high-speed rail improves the flow of talent between different cities and greatly stimulates the positive impact of innovation on green economic activities. In the further test, this study explores the impact of high-speed rail and innovation on the green economy from different dimensions, including government policy, economic strength, and administrative level. During China's 12th Five-Year Plan, high-speed rail and innovation had a positive impact on the green economy, but the impact of innovation can still be significant after this period. Moreover, the opening of high-speed rail may motivate the migration of talents from developed cities to developing ones, while developed cities can rely on technological advantages to support green economic activities. Furthermore, low-administrative level cities will rely on attracting more talents to promote a green economy due to technological disadvantages. Innovation can play a critical role in enhancing the green economy of cities with high administrative levels. Talents and technology are both important to green economic activities, and the construction of high-speed rail changes the impact of technology on the green economy through the flow of talent. Our findings can explain why the opening of high-speed rail can promote the development of a green economy and effectively help governments achieve the goal of sustainable development.

RESUMO

The clinical randomized controlled trial(RCT) of Chinese patent medicine in the treatment of influenza were reviewed and analyzed to provide basic information for clinical decision and related research. On the basis of the collection in the Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) Clinical Evidence Database System(EVDS), CNKI, Wanfang, VIP, SinoMed, EMbase, PubMed, and Cochrane Library were searched for RCTs of Chinese patent medicine for influenza published from database inception to July 25, 2021. The publication time, sample size, intervention and control measures, course of treatment, outcome indicators, and methodological quality of the trials were analyzed and evaluated. Ninety-two RCTs of Chinese patent medicine for influenza published between 2005 and 2021, were included, among which 17 RCTs(18.48%) had a sample size higher than 200 and the average sample size was about 145. Twenty-seven Chinese patent medicines were involved, including twenty-one oral medicines and six injections. The Chinese patent medicines in trials reported in more than five papers included Lianhua Qingwen Capsules/Gra-nules, Tanreqing Injection, and Reduning Injection. Fourteen intervention protocols were reported, of which Chinese patent medicine+western medicine+conventional treatment vs western medicine+conventional treatment(20.65%) was the most frequently employed. Additionally, 85.87% of the RCTs reported the course of treatment, and 80.43% of the RCTs determined 3-7 d as the intervention course. Forty-five outcome indicators were extracted, which were used 434 times, including symptoms/signs, physicochemical detection, safety events, TCM symptoms/syndromes, quality of life, long-term prognosis, and economic evaluation. Symptoms/signs(61.52%) exhibited the highest frequency. Methodological problems were prevalent in the included trials. The findings reveal that there are few clinical trials on influenza treatment by Chinese patent medicine, and the methodological problems are prominent, affec-ting the reliability and practicability of the trials. In the future research, the value characteristics of Chinese patent medicine should be highlighted and the quality control in the whole process should be strengthened based on the scientific and rigorous design.

RESUMO

To explore the pollution characteristics, potential sources, and ecological and health risk of organophosphate eaters (OPEs) in the surface water of Taihu Lake, water samples from 18 surrounding rivers were collected, as well as 11 water samples from Taihu Lake. The concentrations of 13 OPEs in the water were determined using UPLC-MS/MS, and the spatial distribution of the OPEs in surface water of Taihu Lake basin was further analyzed. The results indicate that, in addition to tripropyl phosphate (TPrP), 2-ethylhexyl diphenyl phosphate (EHDPP), and tricresyl phosphate (TCrP), ten OPEs were detected in all the water samples, the total concentration (ΣOPEs) ranged from 152.5 ng·L-1 to 2524 ng·L-1, and the concentration median value was 519.2 ng·L-1. Tri(chloropropyl) phosphate (TCPP) and tri(2-chloroethyl) phosphate (TCEP) were the dominant OPEs, with the concentration ranges of 73.7-1753.9 ng·L-1 (medium value:204.6 ng·L-1) and 43.9-313.5 ng·L-1 (medium value:131.3 ng·L-1), respectively. The ΣOPEs decreased from the northwest region to the southeast, which corresponds to the economic and industrial development. The results of the source identification reveal that the wastewater discharge from electronics and textile enterprises, construction materials, and vehicular and marine traffic emissions may be the principal sources of the OPEs in Taihu Lake. The ecological risk assessment results indicate that only TCPP, tri(dichloropropyl) phosphate (TDCP), and triphenyl phosphate (TPhP) in some sites had a low risk. The health risk assessment reveals that there were no risks based on water intake, but the long-term risk of OPEs to the aquatic ecosystem and surrounding residents still need attention.

RESUMO

Our aim was to compare the utility and accuracy of the Chinese Version of Montreal Cognitive Assessment Basic (MoCA-BC) and the Montreal Cognitive Assessment-Beijing Version (MoCA-BJ) in the identification of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) under different education levels. A sample of individuals with MCI (n = 295), Alzheimer's disease (AD; n = 254), and normal controls (NC; n = 259) at 2 Memory Clinics and communities was administered the MoCA-BC, MoCA-BJ, Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), and other neuropsychological tests. The discriminant validity of the MoCA-BC and MoCA-BJ as diagnostic instruments was ascertained. The overall discriminant validity for detection of MCI from NC (receiver operating characteristic area under the curve [95% confidence interval]) was that the MoCA-BC (0.95 [0.93, 0.97]) had better sensitivity and accuracy than MoCA-BJ (0.87 [0.84, 0.90]). In addition, we provide an easy to use table that enables the conversion of MoCA-BC to the MoCA-BJ scores or to MMSE scores. The MoCA-BC and MoCA-BJ provided good diagnostic accuracy when compared to MMSE. The MoCA-BC, which was proved to be an appropriate tool when screening for MCI among elderly subjects, can now be compared directly with the MoCA-BJ.

RESUMO

The emission of PCDD/Fs is a crucial factor for the aggravation of the Not-In-My-Back-Yard (NIMBY) syndrome, especially for the incineration plants that fail to meet the emission standard. It is well known that physicochemical processes in the boiler can notably affect the discharge of dioxins, especially under transient, non-steady conditions. However, few studies paid attention to the important operational parameters that influence PCDD/Fs formation and transformation in the boiler when an incinerator is in its daily steady operation. In this study, 36 samples were analyzed to achieve process tracing of PCDD/Fs. The concentration, congener profile and vapor/solid partitions of PCDD/Fs from the economizer to air pollution control devices (APCDs) under two typical steady conditions were investigated. Results indicated that increasing air supply aggravated the formation of PCDD/Fs, disturbed the vapor/solid partitions, and triggered a substandard emission. Quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) modeling was firstly performed for the formation mechanism and orbital energy factors were identified as dominating factors. Besides, the removal rates of PCDD/Fs significantly correlated with the saturated vapor pressure and proportions of different isomers. This study is beneficial for operators to optimize relevant operational parameters of the incineration plants so as to get rid of substandard problems.

Migrants are at a higher risk for common mental health problems than the general population but are less likely to seek care. To improve access, the World Health Organization (WHO) recommends the integration of mental health services into primary care. This scoping review aims to provide an overview of the types and characteristics of mental health services provided to migrants in primary care following resettlement in high-income countries. We systematically searched MEDLINE, EMBASE, PsycInfo, Global Health, and other databases from 1 January 2000 to 15 April 2020. The inclusion criteria consisted of all studies published in English, reporting mental health services and practices for refugee, asylum seeker, or undocumented migrant populations, and were conducted in primary care following resettlement in high-income countries. The search identified 1627 citations and we included 19 studies. The majority of the included studies were conducted in North America. Two randomized controlled trials (RCTs) assessed technology-assisted mental health screening, and one assessed integrating intensive psychotherapy and case management in primary care. There was a paucity of studies considering gender, children, seniors, and in European settings. More equity-focused research is required to improve primary mental health care in the context of global mental health.

RESUMO

Organophosphate esters (OPEs) are ubiquitous in the environment and pose a potential threat to ecosystems and human health. A method for the determination of eight OPEs by ultra-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometer (UPLC-MS/MS) was established. The recovery rates of eight target compounds with different solid-phase extraction columns, different eluents, and different eluent volumes were compared. The results showed that using ENVI-18 column enrichment, OPEs were eluted with 8 mL acetonitrile containing 25% (volume fraction) dichloromethane, and the labeled recovery rate of the target compound was 92.5%-102.2%. The recoveries of different matrix samples were 88.5%-116.1% and relative standard deviation was 1.7%-9.9%. The concentration range of 8 different detectable organophosphate esters in the effluent of sewage treatment plant is 85.9-235.4 ng·L-1 during the six-day sampling process, permissive river downstream of the six-day ΣOPEs average total concentration was 130.3 ng·L-1, higher than the 119.4 ng·L-1 upstream water concentration, but lower than the sewage treatment plant effluent concentration of total 162.5ng·L-1. The study shows that the sewage treatment plant cannot completely remove OPEs; for triethyl phosphate (TEP) and 3 (2-ethyl hexyl) phosphate ester (TEHP) there exists a negative removal phenomenon, whereas for other OPEs the removal rate was between 14.1% and 84.9%, and the total ΣOPEs removal rate by the sewage plant was 50.0%. The TPhP in the effluent of the sewage treatment plant has medium environmental risk (RQ>0.1), and other organophosphates have low environmental risk (RQ<0.1); however, the long-term mixing effects of organophosphate esters on the ecosystem of the receiving river should not be ignored.

RESUMO

We investigated the effects of interplanting on soil aggregate distribution and stability of red soil in economic orchard in a new-constructed slope land, based on 12 kiwifruit planting experi-mental plots with a slope of about 12°, a length of 18 m, and a width of 1.5 m. Three types of interplanting patterns were implemented by interplanting purple sweet potato (PSP), hairy vetch (HV), and weeds (W) for three years, respectively, taking the bare land with no vegetation as control (CK) to determine the aggregate indicators at 0-15 cm soil layer. The results showed that the quantity and size of soil water stabilized aggregates (WR>0.25) all tended to increase which ranked in the order of PSP>HV>W>CK. The order of soil aggregate structure damage rate (PAD) and fractal dimension (D) were CK>W>HV>PSP, indicating that soil aggregate in PSP was the most stable, followed by HV treatment. Along the downslope, the content of WR>0.25, mean weight diameter (MWD), and geometric mean diameter (GMD) all tended to decrease, while the PAD and D increased, indicating that soil structure turned to be poorer in downslope of the new-constructed slope land. D was negatively correlated with MWD, GMD, and the content of >0.25 mm aggregates. It was concluded that interplanting could increase the quantity and size of soil aggregates, improve soil structure and soil quality of economic orchard in hilly slope land.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: The relationship among blood donation, cognition in blood donation and health condition of blood donors remains unclear. Based on our hypothesis, this study aimed to explore the mediating effect of cognition in blood donation on the relationship between blood donation and blood donors' health status. METHODS: A total of 837 participants who had prior experience in donating whole blood were recruited into a cross-sectional survey. The Medical Outcomes Study 36-Item Short-Form Health Survey (SF-36) and the Questionnaire on Cognition in Non-remunerated Blood Donation were used to evaluate the health status and the level of cognition in blood donation, respectively. Blood donation referred to the cumulative times of blood donation. The mediating effect of cognition in blood donation was analyzed by applying a path model. RESULTS: The results revealed that blood donation was positively related to the physical component summary (PCS) and mental component summary (MCS) of SF-36, and cognition in blood donation was shown to have a partial mediating effect on the relationship between blood donation and both PCS and MCS. The effect size of cognition in blood donation was 24.63% in PCS and 26.72% in MCS. CONCLUSIONS: Blood donation is positively correlated with SF-36 outcomes (PCS and MCS) of blood donors, and cognition in blood donation plays a partial mediating effect in the relationship between blood donation and PCS and MCS.
