RESUMO

As the sole carbonaceous renewable energy source, biomass is distinguished by its abundant yield, widespread distribution, and carbon neutrality. It is integral to the achievement of zero and negative carbon production via conventional carbonaceous pellet technology. This study introduces a cradle-to-gate life cycle assessment methodology for biomass preparation in carbonaceous pellets. We prepare high-quality biochar through a process combining hydrothermal carbonization and pyrolytic carbonization. Biomass high molecular weight extracts are obtained via organic pyrolytic extraction, while biomass high-temperature binders result from the modification and treatment of biochar. Biomass carbonaceous pellets are then formed using hot press technology. The ReCiPe model facilitates a comprehensive life cycle assessment of biomass carbonaceous pellets used in blast furnace production. The study leverages two comprehensive evaluation indicators - renewability, and environmental performance - to enhance the environmental performance of the process system and to maximize energy-saving and emission reduction potential.

Healthy lifestyle might alleviate the socioeconomic inequities in health, but the extent of the joint and interactive effects of these two factors on dementia are unclear. This study aimed to detect the joint and interactive associations of socioeconomic status (SES) and lifestyle factors with incident dementia risk, and the underlying brain imaging alterations. Cox proportional hazards analysis was performed to test the joint and interactive associations. Partial correlation analysis was performed to reflect the brain imaging alterations. A total of 276,730 participants with a mean age of 55.9 (±8.0) years old from UK biobank were included. Over 8.5 (±2.6) years of follow-up, 3013 participants were diagnosed with dementia. Participants with high SES and most healthy lifestyle had a significantly lower risk of incident dementia (HR=0.19, 95% CI=0.14 to 0.26, P<2×10-16), Alzheimer's disease (AD, HR=0.19, 95% CI=0.13 to 0.29, P=8.94×10-15), and vascular dementia (HR=0.24, 95% CI=0.12 to 0.48, P=7.57×10-05) compared with participants with low SES and an unhealthy lifestyle. Significant interactions were found between SES and lifestyle on dementia (P=0.002) and AD (P=0.001) risks; the association between lifestyle and dementia was stronger among those of high SES. The combination of high SES and healthy lifestyle was positively associated with higher volumes in brain regions vulnerable to dementia-related atrophy. These findings suggest that SES and lifestyle significantly interact and influence dementia with its related brain structure phenotypes.

During Fischer-Tropsch synthesis, O atoms are dissociated on the surface of Fe-based catalysts. However, most of the dissociated O would be removed as H2O or CO2, which results in a low atom economy. Hence, a comprehensive study of the O removal pathway as formic acid has been investigated using the combination of density functional theory (DFT) and kinetic Monte Carlo (kMC) to improve the economics of Fischer-Tropsch synthesis on Fe-based catalysts. The results show that the optimal pathway for the removal of dissociated O as formic acid is the OH pathway, of which the effective barrier energy (0.936 eV) is close to that of the CO activation pathway (0.730 eV), meaning that the removal of dissociated O as formic acid is possible. The main factor in an inability to form formic acid is the competition between the formic acid formation pathway and other oxygenated compound formation pathways (H2O, CO2, methanol-formaldehyde); the details are as follows: 1. If the CO is hydrogenated first, then the subsequent reaction would be impossible due to its high effective Gibbs barrier energy. 2. If CO reacts first with O to become CO2, it is difficult for it to be hydrogenated further to become HCOOH because of the low adsorption energy of CO2. 3. When the CO + OH pathway is considered, OH would react easily with H atoms to form H2O due to the hydrogen coverage effect. Finally, the removal of dissociated O to formic acid is proposed via improving the catalyst to increase the CO2 adsorption energy or CO coverage.

From the perspective of prevention and treatment of dengue, it is important to minimize the number of infections within a limited time frame. That is, the study of finite time contraction stability (FTCS) of dengue system is a meaningful topic. This article proposes a dengue epidemic model with reaction-diffusion, impulse and Markov switching. By constructing an equivalent system, the well-posedness of the positive solution is proved. The main result is that sufficient conditions to guarantee the finite time contraction stability of the dengue model are acquired based on the average pulse interval method and the bounded pulse interval method. Furthermore, the numerical findings indicate the influences of impulse, control strategies and noise intensity on the FTCS.

BACKGROUND: Molecular-based approaches to understanding concussion pathophysiology provide complex biological information that can advance concussion research and identify potential diagnostic and/or prognostic biomarkers of injury. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to identify gene expression changes in peripheral blood that are initiated following concussion and are relevant to concussion response and recovery. METHODS: We analyzed whole blood transcriptomes in a large cohort of concussed and control collegiate athletes who were participating in the multicenter prospective cohort Concussion Assessment, Research, and Education (CARE) Consortium study. Blood samples were collected from collegiate athletes at preseason (baseline), within 6 h of concussion injury, and at four additional prescribed time points spanning 24 h to 6 months post-injury. RNA sequencing was performed on samples from 230 concussed, 130 contact control, and 102 non-contact control athletes. Differential gene expression and deconvolution analysis were performed at each time point relative to baseline. RESULTS: Cytokine and immune response signaling pathways were activated immediately after concussion, but at later time points these pathways appeared to be suppressed relative to the contact control group. We also found that the proportion of neutrophils increased and natural killer cells decreased in the blood following concussion. CONCLUSIONS: Transcriptome signatures in the blood reflect the known pathophysiology of concussion and may be useful for defining the immediate biological response and the time course for recovery. In addition, the identified immune response pathways and changes in immune cell type proportions following a concussion may inform future treatment strategies.

OBJECTIVES: The recognition of arterial phase hyperenhancement (APHE) and washout during the late phase is key for correct diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) with contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS). This meta-analysis was conducted to compare SonoVue®-enhanced and Sonazoid®-enhanced ultrasound in the assessment of HCC enhancement and diagnosis. METHODS: Studies were included in the analysis if they reported data for HCC enhancement in the arterial phase and late phase for SonoVue® or in the arterial phase and Kupffer phase (KP) for Sonazoid®. Forty-two studies (7502 patients) with use of SonoVue® and 30 studies (2391 patients) with use of Sonazoid® were identified. In a pooled analysis, the comparison between SonoVue® and Sonazoid® CEUS was performed using chi-square test. An inverse variance weighted random-effect model was used to estimate proportion, sensitivity, and specificity along with 95% confidence interval (CI). RESULTS: In the meta-analysis, the proportion of HCC showing APHE with SonoVue®, 93% (95% CI 91-95%), was significantly higher than the proportion of HCC showing APHE with Sonazoid®, 77% (71-83%) (p < 0.0001); similarly, the proportion of HCC showing washout at late phase/KP was significantly higher with SonoVue®, 86% (83-89%), than with Sonazoid®, 76% (70-82%) (p < 0.0001). The sensitivity and specificity for the detection of APHE plus late-phase/KP washout detection in HCC were also higher with SonoVue® than with Sonazoid® (sensitivity 80% vs 52%; specificity 80% vs 73% in studies within unselected patient populations). CONCLUSION: APHE and late washout in HCC are more frequently observed with SonoVue® than with Sonazoid®. This may affect the diagnostic performance of CEUS in the diagnosis of HCCs. CLINICAL RELEVANCE STATEMENT: Meta-analysis data show the presence of key enhancement features for diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma is different between ultrasound contrast agents, and arterial hyperenhancement and late washout are more frequently observed at contrast-enhanced ultrasound with SonoVue® than with Sonazoid®. KEY POINTS: • Dynamic enhancement features are key for imaging-based diagnosis of HCC. • Arterial hyperenhancement and late washout are more often observed in HCCs using SonoVue®-enhanced US than with Sonazoid®. • The existing evidence for contrast-enhanced US may need to be considered being specific to the individual contrast agent.

Identifying potential sources of soil potentially toxic elements (PTEs) and developing source-oriented health risk assessments in typical mining cities are key for pollution prevention and risk management. To this end, a case study was conducted to explore the pollution characteristics, potential sources, and human health risks of PTEs in Daye City, China. Indices, including the pollution factor (PF), pollution load index (PLI), and geo-accumulation index (Igeo), were applied to assess PTE pollution. Cd had the highest value among the detected PTEs, and 82.93% of the sampling sites had moderate pollution levels, with the highest mean Igeo value for Cd (2.30). Four potential sources were determined. Cr and Ni originated mainly from natural sources. Zn (91.5%) was exclusively and then Cd (33.1%) was moderately derived from industrial activities. The mixed source of various mineral exploitation smelting, and coal-fired traffic emissions leaded to the accumulation of As, Cd, and Pb. Cu was associated with Cu-related mining and smelting activities. The probabilistic health risk assessment indicated that the non-carcinogenic risks for populations were negligible. Overall, this work provides scientific information for environmental managers to manage soil PTE pollution through the effective management of anthropogenic sources with limited resources and costs.

As part of the modern transport infrastructure, high-speed railways (HSRs) have been considered an important factor affecting eco-efficiency (EE). This study used multisource remote sensing and statistical data from 185 counties representing urban agglomerations in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River (UAMRYR) in China from 2009 to 2018. The study integrated ArcGIS analysis, the Super-SBM (super slack-based measure) model, and the DSPDM (dynamic spatial panel Durbin model) to explore the spatial effects of HSRs on EE. The results showed that the coordinates of the interannual centers of gravity for EE and HSRs both fell in the same county, possessing similar parameter values for the standard deviation elliptical, a negative spatial mismatch index, and obvious spatial mismatch characteristics. In different spatially dislocated areas, the spatial effects of HSRs on EE are variable. Overall, the short-term effects are more intense than the long-term effects, and both the long-term and short-term effects are dominated by the effects of spatial spillover. A new perspective is proposed to explore the green development effects of HSRs, with a view to providing policy implications for the enhancement of EE and the planning of HSRs.

Objective: The aim of this review is to provide guidance on the selection of approaches to the screening and assessment of enthesitis in patients with spondyloarthritis (SpA). Methods: Twenty-four questions regarding the approaches to the screening and assessment of enthesitis and the implementation details were devised, followed by a systemic literature review. The Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation methodology was employed in the development of this guideline, with modifications to evaluate non-interventional approaches under comprehensive consideration of costs, accessibility, and evidence strength. A consensus from the voting panel was required for the inclusion of the final recommendations and the strength of each recommendation. Results: Seventeen recommendations (including five strong recommendations) were included in this guideline. The voting panel expressed unequivocal support for the necessity of screening and assessment of enthesitis in patients with SpA. It was agreed unanimously that symptom evaluation and physical examination should serve as the initial steps to the recognition of enthesitis, whereas Maastricht Ankylosing Spondylitis Enthesitis Score is a reliable tool in both clinical trials and daily medical practice. Ultrasound examination is another reliable tool, with power Doppler ultrasound as an informative addition. Notwithstanding its high resolution, MRI is limited by the costs and relatively low accessibility, whereas radiographs had low sensitivity and therefore should be rendered obsolete in the assessment of enthesitis. PET/CT was strongly opposed in the detection of enthesitis. Conclusion: This guideline provides clinicians with information regarding the screening and assessment of enthesitis in patients with SpA. However, this guideline does not intend on dictating choices, and the ultimate decisions should be made in light of the actual circumstances of the facilities.

In the context of continuing to promote the construction of an ecological civilization, it is of great significance to explore green development performance. However, most of the literature is based on a single perspective of level or efficiency, lacking a comprehensive examination of both. It is not scientific to explore how to promote green development only from a single perspective, which may be a new advancement by breaking the conventional thinking focusing only on level or efficiency. On this basis, we first established evaluation index systems of green development performance based on a theoretical framework. Furthermore, green development performance was measured with the entropy weight technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) and super-EBM models, and finally, we analyzed the spatial and temporal evolution patterns of green development performance using the ESDA method and examined its influencing factors with a geographic detector (GD) and econometric models. The main results were as follows: (1) The trend of the green development level in the Yangtze River Economic Belt from 2004 to 2017 had an inverted "N" shape, while the overall average green development efficiency continuously increased. (2) In terms of spatial and temporal patterns, both the green development level and green development efficiency showed "high in the east and low in the west" spatial divergence characteristics. In terms of the spatial and temporal evolution pattern of the green development level, the L-L clusters were mainly distributed in the western region. However, for green development efficiency, the L-L clusters were mostly distributed around the H-H clusters. (3) The results of the influencing factor analysis indicated that industrial structure and people's welfare are still important factors of the green development level. The improvement of green development efficiency was mainly driven by economic development, and the inhibiting effect of energy consumption is significant. In addition, the effect of opening up has not yet changed from a "pollution paradise" to a "pollution halo".

Background US elastography is a first-line assessment of liver fibrosis severity; however, its application is limited by its insufficient sensitivity in early-stage fibrosis detection and its measurements are affected by inflammation. Purpose To assess the sensitivity of US molecular imaging (USMI) in early-stage liver fibrosis detection and to determine whether USMI can specifically distinguish fibrosis regardless of inflammation when compared with two-dimensional (2D) shear-wave elastography (SWE). Materials and methods USMI and 2D SWE were performed prospectively (January to June 2021) in 120 male Sprague-Dawley rats with varying degrees of liver fibrosis and acute hepatitis and control rats. Liver sinusoidal capillarization was viewed at CD34-targeted USMI and quantitatively analyzed by the normalized intensity difference (NID). Data were compared by using a two-sided Student t test or one-way analysis of variance. Linear correlation analyses were used to evaluate the relationships between collagen proportionate area values and NID and liver stiffness measurement (LSM) values. Receiver operating characteristic curves were used to assess the diagnostic performance in detecting liver fibrosis. Results Both NID and LSM values showed good linear correlation with collagen proportionate area values (r = 0.91 and 0.87, respectively). No difference was observed between the areas under the receiver operating characteristic curve in detecting stage F0-F1 between USMI and 2D SWE (0.97 vs 0.91, respectively; P = .20). USMI depicted liver fibrosis at an early stage more accurately than 2D SWE (area under the curve, 0.97 vs 0.82, respectively; P = .01). Rats with hepatitis had higher liver stiffness values than control rats (9.83 kPa ± 0.79 vs 6.55 kPa ± 0.38, respectively; P < .001), with no difference in the NID values between control rats and rats with hepatitis (6.75% ± 1.43 vs 6.74% ± 0.86, respectively; P = .98). Conclusion Sinusoidal capillarization viewed at US molecular imaging helped to detect early-stage liver fibrosis more accurately than two-dimensional shear-wave elastography and helped assess fibrosis regardless of inflammation. © RSNA, 2022 Online supplemental material is available for this article. The statistical inference of high-order Markov chains (MCs) for biological sequences is vital for molecular sequence analyses but can be hindered by the high dimensionality of free parameters. In the seminal article by Bühlmann and Wyner, variable length Markov chain (VLMC) model was proposed to embed the full-order MC in a sparse structured context tree. In the key procedure of tree pruning of their proposed context algorithm, the word count-based statistic for each branch was defined and compared with a fixed cutoff threshold calculated from a common chi-square distribution to prune the branch of the context tree. In this study, we find that the word counts for each branch are highly intercorrelated, resulting in non-negligible effects on the distribution of the statistic of interest. We demonstrate that the inferred context tree based on the original context algorithm by Bühlmann and Wyner, which uses a fixed cutoff threshold based on a common chi-square distribution, can be systematically biased and error prone. We denote the original context algorithm as VLMC-Biased (VLMC-B). To solve this problem, we propose a new context tree inference algorithm using an adaptive tree-pruning scheme, termed VLMC-Consistent (VLMC-C). The VLMC-C is founded on the consistent branch-specific mixed chi-square distributions calculated based on asymptotic normal distribution of multiple word patterns. We validate our theoretical branch-specific asymptotic distribution using simulated data. We compare VLMC-C with VLMC-B on context tree inference using both simulated and real genome sequence data and demonstrate that VLMC-C outperforms VLMC-B for both context tree reconstruction accuracy and model compression capacity.

Machine learning or deep learning models have been widely used for taxonomic classification of metagenomic sequences and many studies reported high classification accuracy. Such models are usually trained based on sequences in several training classes in hope of accurately classifying unknown sequences into these classes. However, when deploying the classification models on real testing data sets, sequences that do not belong to any of the training classes may be present and are falsely assigned to one of the training classes with high confidence. Such sequences are referred to as out-of-distribution (OOD) sequences and are ubiquitous in metagenomic studies. To address this problem, we develop a deep generative model-based method, MLR-OOD, that measures the probability of a testing sequencing belonging to OOD by the likelihood ratio of the maximum of the in-distribution (ID) class conditional likelihoods and the Markov chain likelihood of the testing sequence measuring the sequence complexity. We compose three different microbial data sets consisting of bacterial, viral, and plasmid sequences for comprehensively benchmarking OOD detection methods. We show that MLR-OOD achieves the state-of-the-art performance demonstrating the generality of MLR-OOD to various types of microbial data sets. It is also shown that MLR-OOD is robust to the GC content, which is a major confounding effect for OOD detection of genomic sequences. In conclusion, MLR-OOD will greatly reduce false positives caused by OOD sequences in metagenomic sequence classification.

The clarification of land use management in areas of potential land use conflict plays an important role in maintaining ecosystem services. However, the relationship between land use strategies and ecosystem services in potential conflict zones remains uncertain, lacking quantitative evidence. Therefore, to construct a healthy territorial space system, a spatial classification model for land use was built based on land sparing and sharing. In addition, the inherent characteristics of different modes in the landscape structure and functional heterogeneity were also resolved. Then, an empirical analysis was carried out with the coastal agricultural production area of Maoming City, Guangdong Province. Focusing on the potential area of land use conflicts in Maoming City, that is, the suitable area for agricultural production, this study determined the differences in ecosystem services under multiple land use patterns at the pixel level, explored the trade-offs of ecosystem services in the entire suitable area and a single model, and examined the gradient effect of ecosystem services with the intensity of cultivated land use. According to the results, ecosystem services significantly differed in land use patterns, and the comprehensive ecosystem service was the highest in the land sharing model. Ecosystem services exert a synergistic effect in the entire suitable area for agricultural production, whereas there exists no correlation within a single model. When the arable land area of intensive agriculture exceeds 84.84%, food supply and other ecosystem services will be reduced to varying degrees. The study bridges the gap in research on the relationship between land sparing and sharing and ecosystem services in Chinese regions, and proposes clear land remediation strategies in potential conflict zones, which can thus provide some guidance for achieving sustainable regional development.

PURPOSE: COVID-19 pandemic has been verified as a public health emergency of international concern. During the special period, the health of vulnerable groups, such as children with autism, should be concerned. Some studies have been carried out to investigate the behavioral problems of children with autism during the COVID-19, but underlying mechanisms behind it is not clear. This study examines the role of parenting stress as a mediator in the relationship between parental self-efficacy and behavioral problems in Chinese children as well as the role of perceived social support as a moderator for this mediation effect. METHODS: A total of 439 parents of children with autism (mean age=40.17, SD=5.26) were surveyed and completed five questionnaires (Conners Parent Symptom Questionnaire, Parental Self-Efficacy Questionnaire, Parenting Stress Index-Short Form 15, Perceived Social Support Questionnaire, and Neuroticism Extraversion Openness Five Factor Inventory). The statistical analyses were conducted by SPSS 26.0 and SPSS PROCESS macro. RESULTS: Controlling for neuroticism, which is highly associated with psychological changes in parents, the study found that parental self-efficacy was significantly and negatively correlated with behavioral problems in children with autism. In addition, the relationship between parental self-efficacy and behavioral problems was mediated by parenting stress. Furthermore, parenting stress moderated the indirect relationship between parental self-efficacy and behavioral problems via perceived social support. CONCLUSION: These results provide direct evidences for the inextricable relationship between family, social factors and behavioral problems of children with autism. It suggest that improving perceived social support to enhance parental self-efficacy is critical to buffering against parenting stress and stabilizing children with autism during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The escalating cost of civil litigation is leaving many defendants and plaintiffs unable to meet legal expenses such as attorney fees, court charges and others. This significantly impacts their ability to sue or defend themselves effectively. Related to this phenomenon is the ethics discussion around access to justice and crowdfunding. This article explores the dimensions that explain the phenomenon of litigation crowdfunding. Using data from CrowdJustice, a popular Internet fundraising platform used to assist in turning legal cases into publicly funded social cases, we study litigation crowdfunding through the lenses of the number of pledges, goal achievement, target amount, length of description, country, case category, and others. Overall, we see a higher number of cases seeking funding in the categories of human rights, environment, and judicial review. Meanwhile, the platform offers access to funding for other less prominent categories, such as voting rights, personal injury, intellectual property, and data & privacy. At the same time, donors are willing to donate more to cases related to health, politics, and public services. Also noteworthy is that while donors are willing to donate to education, animal welfare, data & privacy, and inquest-related cases, they are not willing to donate large sums to these causes. In terms of lawyer/law firm status, donors are more willing to donate to cases assisted by experienced lawyers. Furthermore, we also note that the higher the number of successful cases an attorney presents, the greater the amount raised. We analyzed valence, arousal, and dominance in case description and found they have a positive relationship with funds raised. Also, when a case description is updated on a crowdsourcing site, it ends up being more successful in funding-at least in the categories of health, immigration, and judicial review. This is not the case, however, for categories such as public service, human rights, and environment. Our research addresses whether litigation crowdfunding, in particular, levels the playing field in terms of opening up financing opportunities for those individuals who cannot afford the costs of litigation. While it may support social justice, ethical concerns with regards to the kinds of campaigns must also be addressed. Most of the ethical concerns center around issues relating to both the fundraisers and donors. Our findings have ethical and social justice implications for crowdfunding platform design.

BACKGROUND: It is still unknown whether the "Somatic symptom disorders (SSD) and related disorders" module of the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-5, research version (SCID-5-RV), is valid in China. This study aimed to assess the SCID-5-RV for SSD in general hospital outpatient clinics in China. METHODS: This multicentre cross-sectional study was conducted in the outpatient clinics of nine tertiary hospitals in Beijing, Jincheng, Shanghai, Wuhan, and Chengdu between May 2016 and March 2017. The "SSD and related disorders" module of the SCID-5-RV was translated, reversed-translated, revised, and used by trained clinical researchers to make a diagnosis of SSD. Several standardized questionnaires measuring somatic symptom severity, emotional distress, and quality of life were compared with the SCID-5-RV. RESULTS: A total of 699 patients were recruited, and 236 were diagnosed with SSD. Of these patients, 46 had mild SSD, 78 had moderate SSD, 100 had severe SSD, and 12 were excluded due to incomplete data. The SCID-5-RV for SSD was highly correlated with somatic symptom severity, emotional distress, and quality of life (all P < 0.001) and could distinguish nonsevere forms of SSD from severe ones. CONCLUSIONS: This study suggests that SCID-5-RV for SSD can distinguish SSD from non-SSD patients and severe cases from nonsevere cases. It has good discriminative validity and reflects the DSM-5 diagnostic approach that emphasizes excessive emotional, thinking, and behavioural responses related to symptoms.

In this study, a simple to produce, low-cost and environment-friendly sludge based adsorbent, prepared from municipal dewatered sludge and modified by calcium oxide (CaO), is described. The enhancement effect of CaO modification on the adsorption capacity and mechanical strength of sludge based adsorbents (CaO-SA), and the modification mechanism of CaO on activated sludge are discussed. Also, the Cd(II) adsorption conditions are optimized using surface optimization experiment. The results indicated that CaO had a good effect on improving the adsorption capacity and mechanical strength of the sludge-based adsorbent. The CaO-SA adsorbent showed best performance with respect to the mechanical strength and Cd(II) adsorption capacity when prepared under 5% CaO dosage and 60 °C drying temperature. CaO modification can increase the specific surface area and calcium ion content of the sludge-based adsorbent and remove the proton of the carboxylic acid in the sludge. The Box-Behnken experimental design results revealed that the importance of operating conditions for CaO-SA adsorption of Cd(II) can be arranged in the order of adsorption time > dosage> pH> temperature. The results also indicated that the interactions between adsorption time and CaO-SA dosage, adsorption time and pH, adsorption time and temperature are all important factors affecting the Cd(II) adsorption. The optimal conditions (adsorption time of 90 min, CaO-SA dosage of 1 g/L, pH of 5 and adsorption temperature of 40 °C) for CaO-SA to adsorb Cd(II) were obtained by surface optimization, at which the Cd(II) adsorption rate could reach a value of 99.74%.

We assessed the mental health of parents (N = 1450, Mage = 40.76) of special needs children during the COVID-19 pandemic. We conducted an online survey comprising items on demographic data; two self-designed questionnaires (children's behavioral problems/psychological demand of parents during COVID-19); and four standardized questionnaires, including the General Health Questionnaire, Perceived Social Support, Parenting Stress Index, and Neuroticism Extraversion Openness Five Factor Inventory. The results showed that there were significant differences among parents of children with different challenges. Parents of children with autism spectrum disorder were more likely to have mental health problems compared to parents whose children had an intellectual disability or a visual or hearing impairment. Behavioral problems of children and psychological demands of parents were common factors predicting the mental health of all parents. Parent-child dysfunctional interactions and parenting distress were associated with parents of children with autism spectrum disorder. Family support, having a difficult child, and parenting distress were associated with having children with an intellectual disability. It is necessary to pay attention to the parents' mental health, provide more social and family support, and reduce parenting pressures.

BACKGROUND: Medical crowdfunding has emerged as a growing field for fundraising opportunities. Some environmental trends have driven the emergence of campaigns to raise funds for medical care. These trends include lack of medical insurance, economic backlash following the 2008 financial collapse, and shortcomings of health care regulations. OBJECTIVE: Research regarding crowdfunding campaign use, reasons, and effects on the provision of medical care and individual relationships in health systems is limited. This study aimed to explore the nature and dimensions of the phenomenon of medical crowdfunding using a visual analytics approach and data crawled from the GoFundMe crowdfunding platform in 2019. We aimed to explore and identify the factors that contribute to a successful campaign. METHODS: This data-driven study used a visual analytics approach. It focused on descriptive analytics to obtain a panoramic insight into medical projects funded through the GoFundMe crowdfunding platform. RESULTS: This study highlighted the relevance of positioning the campaign for fundraising. In terms of motivating donors, it appears that people are typically more generous in contributing to campaigns for children rather than those for adults. The results emphasized the differing dynamics that a picture posted in the campaign brings to the potential for medical crowdfunding. In terms of donor's motivation, the results show that a picture depicting the pediatric patient by himself or herself is the most effective. In addition, a picture depicting the current medical condition of the patient as severe is more effective than one depicting relative normalcy in the condition. This study also drew attention to the optimum length of the title. Finally, an interesting trend in the trajectory of donations is that the average amount of a donation decreases with an increase in the number of donors. This indicates that the first donors tend to be the most generous. CONCLUSIONS: This study examines the relationship between social media, the characteristics of a campaign, and the potential for fundraising. Its analysis of medical crowdfunding campaigns across the states offers a window into the status of the country's health care affordability. This study shows the nurturing role that social media can play in the domain of medical crowdfunding. In addition, it discusses the drivers of a successful fundraising campaign with respect to the GoFundMe platform.
