RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: to understand elderly people's experiences in emergencies through access to other levels of health care. METHODS: a phenomenological study in the light of Heidegger, conducted with 19 elderly patients admitted to an Emergency Care Unit of the city of Salvador, between April and October 2019. RESULTS: ontic primacy: Disposition of the experience of elderly people waiting for regulation; Constitutional anguish and fear in the willingness to be an elderly person waiting for regulation in an Emergency Care Unit; Inappropriate elderly being suppressed while waiting for regulation; Being an elderly person unveiled in the existential modality of being for death. Ontological primacy: Heal how to be the presence of elderly people waiting for regulation. FINAL CONSIDERATIONS: elderly people being anguished and afraid, feelings that allow the questioning of their own being, who want a healing and seeks ways that allows an active and proper participation in care.

RESUMO

Marine forests dominated by macroalgae have experienced noticeable regression along some temperate and subpolar rocky shores. Along continuously disturbed shores, where natural recovery is extremely difficult, these forests are often permanently replaced by less structured assemblages. Thus, implementation of an active restoration plan emerges as an option to ensure their conservation. To date, active transplantation of individuals from natural and healthy populations has been proposed as a prime vehicle for restoring habitat-forming species. However, given the threatened and critical conservation status of many populations, less invasive techniques are required. Some authors have experimentally explored the applicability of several non-destructive techniques based on recruitment enhancement for macroalgae restoration; however, these techniques have not been effectively applied to restore forest-forming fucoids. Here, for the first time, we successfully restored four populations of Cystoseira barbata (i.e., they established self-maintaining populations of roughly 25 m2) in areas from which they had completely disappeared at least 50 years ago using recruitment-enhancement techniques. We compared the feasibility and costs of active macroalgal restoration by means of in situ (wild-collected zygotes and recruits) and ex situ (provisioning of lab-cultured recruits) techniques. Mid/long-term monitoring of the restored and reference populations allowed us to define the best indicators of success for the different restoration phases. After 6 years, the densities and size structure distributions of the restored populations were similar and comparable to those of the natural reference populations. However, the costs of the in situ recruitment technique were considerably lower than those of the ex situ technique. The restoration method, monitoring and success indicators proposed here may have applicability for other macroalgal species, especially those that produce rapidly sinking zygotes. Recruitment enhancement should become an essential tool for preserving Cystoseira forests and their associated biodiversity.

RESUMO

Objective: to describe the drugs used and analyze the factors associated with polypharmacy in the elderly, in Aiquara, Bahia, Brazil. Methods: this is a census cross-sectional study, conducted in February 2014, through an interview using standardized form. Results: among the 272 elderly respondents, 53.3% used only prescribed medication and 31.6% used at least one medication not prescribed; the prevalence of polypharmacy was 29.0%; cardiovascular drugs were the most used in polypharmacy (n=390; 37.6%); after adjusted analysis, the factors that remained associated with polypharmacy were female sex (OR=2.20 - 95%CI 1.11;4.35), private health insurance (OR=2.18 - 95%CI 1.05;4.55), hospitalization in the previous year (OR=2.34 - 95%CI 1.18;4.65) and having four or more self-reported diseases (OR=3.18 - 95%CI 1.60;6.29). Conclusion: there was a high prevalence of polypharmacy, associated with sex, private health insurance, having four or more self-reported diseases and hospitalization in the previous year, with higher use of cardiovascular drugs.

This work concerns the process of identity formation of adolescents, considering their relationship with their significant others. The study was based on sociological social psychology. We adopted a qualitative methodology, conducting in-depth interviews with 20 adolescents living in the metropolitan region of Belo Horizonte. These subjects were selected, considering socio-economic status, gender and the presence of work in the life of the adolescent. It was possible to discuss the issue of work in adolescence from the data on socioeconomic status, which had marked differences in the constitution of the self among those from middle class and those from economically disadvantaged classes.
