RESUMO

The distribution and characteristics of petroleum in three different geographic oilfields in China: Shengli Oilfield (SL), Nanyang Oilfield (NY), and Yanchang Oilfield (YC) were investigated. The average concentration of the total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPHs) conformed to be in the following law: SL Oilfield > NY Oilfield > YC Oilfield. Fingerprint analysis on the petroleum contamination level and source was conducted by the geochemical indices of n-alkanes and PAHs, such as low to high molecular weight (LMW/HMW) hydrocarbons, n-alkanes/pristine or phytane (C17/ Pr, C18/Ph), and ratio of anthracene/ (anthracene + phenanthrene) [Ant/(Ant + Phe)]. Soils adjacent to working well oils indicated new petroleum input with higher ratio of low to high molecular weight (LMW/HMW) hydrocarbons. The oil contamination occurred in the grassland soils might result of rainfall runoff. Petroleum source, petroleum combustion source, and biomass combustion were dominant PAHs origination of soils collected from oil exploitation area, petrochemical-related sites, farmland and grassland, respectively. The suggestive petroleum control strategies were proposed in each oilfield soils. Ecological potential risk of PAHs was assessed according to the toxic equivalent quantity (TEQ) of seven carcinogenic PAHs. The results showed that high, medium, and low ecological risk presented in petro-related area, grassland soils, and farmland soils, respectively. High ecological risk was persistent in abandoned oil well areas over abandoned time of 15 years, and basically stable after 5 years. This study can provide a critical insight to ecological risk management and source control of the petroleum contamination.

RESUMO

An increasing amount of Fluoranthene (Fla) and Benz(a)anthracene (BaA) is being produced and used, eventually entering the soil sediments. The accumulation of Fla and BaA will cause poisoning to typical enzymes (α-Amylase) and organisms (Eisenia fetida) in soil. However, the studies about exploring and comparing the different effects of Fla, BaA and their joint effect at different levels are rarely reported. In this paper, the different effects of Fla, BaA and their mixed pollutant on α-Amylase were evaluated and compared at the molecular level, and the effect of Fla-BaA to the antioxidant system of earthworm (Eisenia fetida) was investigated from the aspects of concentration and exposure time at the animal level. The results showed that Fla-BaA had the greatest influence on the skeleton structure and the microenvironment of amino acid residue of α-Amylase compared to Fla and BaA, and in the mixed pollutant system, the joint effect mode was additive mode. The inhibitory effect of Fla-BaA on the activity of α-Amylase was also stronger than that of the system alone. The assays at the animal level showed that low concentrations (below 5 mg/kg) of Fla-BaA increased the activity of GSH-Px and SOD while high concentrations inhibited their activity. The POD that was activated throughout the experiment period suggested its key role in the earthworm antioxidant system. Changes in T-AOC and MDA showed that long-term and high-dose of Fla-BaA exposure inhibited the antioxidant capacity of Eisenia fetida, causing lipid peroxidation and damage to cells.

RESUMO

Ball-milled biochars (BM-biochars) were produced through ball milling of pristine biochars derived from different biomass at three pyrolysis temperatures (300, 450, and 600 °C). The results of scanning electron microscopic (SEM), surface area, hydrodynamic diameter test, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) revealed that BM-biochars had smaller particle size (140-250 nm compared to 0.5-1 mm for unmilled biochar), greater stability, and more oxygen-containing functional groups (2.2-4.4 mmol/g compared to 0.8-2.9 for unmilled biochar) than the pristine biochars. With these changes, all the BM-biochar-modified glassy carbon electrodes (BM-biochar/GCEs) exhibited prominent electrochemical properties (e.g., ΔEp of 119-254 mV compared to 850 mV for bare GCE). Cyclic voltammetry (CV) and electrochemical impedance spectra (EIS) show that ball-milled 600 °C biochar/GCE (BMBB600/GCE and BMBG600/GCE) had the smallest peak-to-peak separation (ΔEp = 119 and 132 mV, respectively), series resistance (RS = 88.7 and 89.5 Ω, respectively), and charge transfer resistance (RCT = 1224 and 1382 Ω, respectively), implying its best electrocatalytic activity for the reduction of Fe(CN)63-. It is supposed that the special structure (i.e., internal surface area, pore volume, oxygen-containing functional groups, and graphitic structure) facilitates the electron transfer and reduces interface resistance. Economic cost of BM-biochar/GCE was 1.97 × 10-7 USD/cm2, much lower than that of a "low-cost platinum electrode" (0.03 USD/cm2). The results indicate potential application of the novel BM-biochar for low cost and high efficient electrodes. Graphical abstract.
