Objective: To compare the intervention effects and pharmacoeconomic advantages of Fufang Huangbai Fluid (FFHB) hydropathic compress versus Antimicrobial Calcium Alginate Wound Dressing (ACAWD) in the treatment of diabetic foot infections (DFI). Methods: Patients with DF who were hospitalized in the peripheral vascular Department of Dongzhimen Hospital of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine from December 2020 to February 2022 and met the inclusion and excluding criteria were allocated into the experimental group and control group through minimization randomization. The experimental group was treated with FFHB hydropathic compress for 2 weeks, while the control group was treated with ACAWD for the same duration. The wound healing of both groups was monitored for 1 month post-discharge. Clinical data from all eligible patients were collected, and differences in various indices between cohorts were analyzed. Results: 22 in the experimental group (including two fell off) and 20 in the control group. After the treatment, the negative rate of wound culture in the experimental group was 30% and that in the control group was 10%, There was no significant difference in the negative rate of wound culture and change trend of minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) value of drug sensitivity (p > 0.05). The infection control rate of the experimental group was 60%, and that of the control group was 25%. The difference between the two groups was statistically significant (χ2 = 5.013, p = 0.025). The median wound healing rate of the experimental group was 34.4% and that of the control group was 33.3%. There was no significant difference between the two groups (p > 0.05). During the follow-up 1 month later, the wound healing rate in the experimental group was higher, and the difference was statistically significant (p = 0.047). Pharmacoeconomic evaluations indicated that the experimental group had greater cost-effectiveness compared to the control group. Conclusion: In the preliminary study, FFHB demonstrated comparable pathogenic and clinical efficacy to ACAWD in the treatment of mild DF infection, and exhibited superior pharmacoeconomic advantages. With the aid of infection control, the wound healing rate in the FFHB group showed notable improvement. Nevertheless, due to the limited sample size, larger-scale studies are warranted to further validate these findings. The production of cheap, efficient, and stable photocatalysts for degrading antibiotic contaminants remains challenging. Herein, Bi2O3/boron nitride (BN)/Co3O4 ternary composites were synthesized using the impregnation method. The morphological characteristics, structural features, and photochemical properties of the prepared photocatalysts were investigated via X-ray diffraction, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, and ultraviolet-visible (Vis) diffuse reflectance spectrum techniques. BN was used as a charge transfer bridge in the ternary composites, which afforded a heterojunction between the two semiconductors. The formation of the heterojunction substantially enhanced the charge separation and improved the photocatalyst performance. The degradation activity of the Bi2O3/BN/Co3O4 ternary composites against norfloxacin (NOR) under Vis light irradiation was investigated. The degradation rate of NOR using 5-wt% Bi2O3/BN/Co3O4 reached 98% in 180 min, indicating excellent photocatalytic performance. The ternary composites also exhibited high photostability with a degradation efficiency of 88.4% after five cycles. Hydroxyl radicals (•OH), superoxide radicals (•O2-), and holes (h+) played a synergistic role in the photocatalytic reaction, where h+ and •O2- were more important than •OH. Consequently, seven intermediates and major photocatalytic degradation pathways were identified. Toxicity experiments showed that the toxicity of the degradation solution to Chlorella pyrenoidosa decreased. Finally, the ecotoxicity of NOR and its intermediates were analyzed using the Toxicity Estimation Software Tool, with most intermediates exhibiting low toxicity.

In order to determine the status of heavy metal pollution in river sediments and wild fish in Xi'an, concentrations of heavy metals (Cr, Ni, Cu, Zn, As, and Pb) were collected and analyzed in sediments and wild fish during dry season (October-November 2020) and wet season (June-July 2021). This study aimed to investigate the spatial and temporal variations of heavy metals in urban rivers of Xi'an, China. Their distribution characteristics and sources as well their pollution levels and health risks were assessed. The findings revealed that influenced by human activities, the heavy metal content in sediments (mg·kg-1 dry weight) in wet season was ranked as follows: Cr (73.09) > Zn (63.73) > Pb (40.31) > Ni (31.52) > Cu (24.86) > As (6.83); in the dry season: Zn (94.07) > Cr (69.59) > Cu (34.24) > Ni (33.60) > Pb (32.87) > As (7.60). Moreover, 32 fish samples from six species indicated an average metal content trend (mg·kg-1 wet weight) of Zn (8.70) > Cr (0.57) > Pb (0.28) > Ni (0.27) > Cu (0.24) > As (0.05). The potential ecological risk indices for sediment heavy metal concentrations in both seasons were well below the thresholds, which indicates that the aquatic environment is in safe level. The analysis of the potential ecological risk of sediment heavy metal concentrations indicates that the aquatic environment is safe for the time being. Based on the estimated daily intake (EDI), target risk quotient (THQ), total target risk quotient (TTHQ), cancer risk (CR), total cancer risk (TCR), and the permissible safety limits set by the agencies, the consumption of the fish examined is safe for human health. However, the presence of Cr and As in wild fish should still be a concern for human health, especially for children. The cumulative effect of heavy metals and the bioconcentration factor (BCF) suggest that sediment and heavy metals in fish are closely related, with higher concentrations in fish living in the bottom layer of the water column than in other water layers, and increasing with increasing predator levels. Correlation analysis and PMF modeling identified and determined four comparable categories of potential sources, namely, (1) atmospheric deposition and traffic sources, (2) agricultural sources, (3) industrial sources, and (4) natural sources.

Emamectin benzoate (EB), chlorantraniliprole (CTP), chlorfenapyr (CFP), and lufenuron (LFR) are widely used to control Spodoptera exigua on cabbage. This study is aimed at establishing a universal, sensitive, accurate, and efficient method for the determination of these pesticide residues in cabbage using QuEChERS pretreatment combined with ultra-performance liquid chromatography or gas chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC‒MS/MS or GC‒MS/MS). The recoveries of these pesticides (containing metabolites) in cabbage detected by the optimized method ranged between 80.9% and 99.9%, with relative standard deviations (RSDs) of 0.164-12.5%. The limit of quantification (LOQ) of the four pesticides was determined to be 0.01 mg/kg. The standard curve, accuracy, precision, and LOQ of the analysis method all met the requirements of pesticide residue detection. The optimized method was used to detect the dissipation dynamics and terminal residues in 12 regions. The dissipation half-lives of CTP, CFP, and LFR were 3.35-7.01 d, 2.29-4.75 d, and 3.24-6.80 d, respectively. The terminal residues of all these pesticides were below the maximum residue limits (MRLs). The dietary risk assessment indicated that the dietary risk probabilities for EB, CTP, CFP, and LFR were all less than 1 and were within the acceptable range. This study provides a comprehensive assessment of the residues and dietary risks of EB, CTP, CFP, and LFR for the scientific use of pesticides.

PPCPs (pharmaceuticals and personal care products) are widely found in the environment and can be a risk to human and ecosystem health. In this study, spatiotemporal distribution, critical risk source identification and potential risks of 14 PPCPs found in water collected from sampling points in Luoma Lake and its inflowing rivers in two seasons in 2019 and 2020 were investigated. The PPCPs concentrations ranged from 27.64 ng·L-1 to 613.08 ng·L-1 in December 2019, and from 16.67 ng·L-1 to 3287.41 ng·L-1 in April 2020. Ketoprofen (KPF) dominated the PPCPs with mean concentrations of 125.85 ng·L-1 and 640.26 ng·L-1, respectively. Analysis of sources showed that the pollution in Luoma Lake mostly originated from sewage treatment plant effluents, inflowing rivers and domestic wastewater. Among them, the inflowing rivers contributed the most (82.95%) to the concentration of total PPCPs. The results of ecological risk assessment showed that there was a moderate risk (0.1 < RQs < 1) from carbamazepine (CBZ) in December 2019 and a high risk (RQs > 1) from naproxen (NPX) in April 2020. The results of human risk assessment found that NPX posed a high risk to infant health, and we found that NPX was associated with 83 diseases according to Comparative Toxicogenomics Database. NPX was identified as a substance requiring major attention. The results provide an understanding of the concentrations and ecological risks of PPCPs in Luoma Lake. We believe the data will support environmental departments to develop management strategies and prevent PPCPs pollution.

Large bone defects due to trauma, infections, and tumors are difficult to heal spontaneously by the body's repair mechanisms and have become a major hindrance to people's daily lives and economic development. However, autologous and allogeneic bone grafts, with their lack of donors, more invasive surgery, immune rejection, and potential viral transmission, hinder the development of bone repair. Hydrogel tissue bioengineered scaffolds have gained widespread attention in the field of bone repair due to their good biocompatibility and three-dimensional network structure that facilitates cell adhesion and proliferation. In addition, loading natural products with nanoparticles and incorporating them into hydrogel tissue bioengineered scaffolds is one of the most effective strategies to promote bone repair due to the good bioactivity and limitations of natural products. Therefore, this paper presents a brief review of the application of hydrogels with different gel-forming properties, hydrogels with different matrices, and nanoparticle-loaded natural products loaded and incorporated into hydrogels for bone defect repair in recent years.

BACKGROUND: Microvascular reperfusion following percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is associated with the prognosis of patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). We investigated how plaque characteristics detected by optical coherence tomography (OCT) in STEMI patients affect the status of the microcirculation during PCI.Methods and Results: This retrospective, single-center study was a post hoc analysis basedon the multicenter SALVAGE randomized control trial (NCT03581513) that enrolled 629 STEMI patients, and finally we enrolled 235 patients who underwent PCI and pre-intervention OCT. Microvascular perfusion was evaluated using the Thrombolysis in Myocardial Infarction (TIMI) myocardial perfusion frame count (TMPFC). Patients were divided into 3 groups based on the change in TMPFC from before to after PCI: improving TMPFC (n=11; 4.7%), stable TMPFC (n=182; 77.4%), and worsening TMPFC group (n=42; 17.9%). The proportion of patients with a microcirculation dysfunction before reperfusion was 11.9%, which increased significantly by (P=0.079) 8.5% to 20.4% after reperfusion. Compared with plaque characteristics in the stable and worsening TMPFC groups, the improving TMPFC group had fewer thrombi (90.7% and 90.5% vs. 89.4%, respectively; P=0.018), a lower proportion of plaque rupture (66.5% and 66.3% vs. 54.5%, respectively; P=0.029), and a lower proportion of lipid-rich plaques (89.6% and 88.1% vs. 63.6%, respectively; P=0.036). CONCLUSIONS: PCI may not always achieve complete myocardial reperfusion. Thrombi, plaque rupture, and lipid-rich plaques detected by OCT can indicate microcirculation dysfunction during the reperfusion period.

Disability weights are crucial for quantifying health loss associated with non-fatal outcomes and were not well assessed in different countries, especially for specific cancer. Therefore, this study aimed to identify disability weights with a focus on specific cancer in a large Chinese population. Two types of web surveys were conducted, and 254 health states, including 30 new states for specific cancer, were investigated using paired comparison methods. The years lived with disability (YLDs) of cancer were calculated as the sum of the prevalence of each sequela of cancer multiplied by its relative disability weight. In total, 44,069 participants were eligible for the disability weights study. The disability weights of 254 health states were estimated. Among those, the disability weights of 18 specific cancer types varied greatly at diagnosis and primary treatment stage, with the value ranging from 0.619 (95% uncertainty interval (UI) 0.606-0.632) for brain cancer to 0.167 (95% UI 0.158-0.176) for oropharyngeal cancer. The discrepancy in YLDs calculated by different disability weights was high, and the largest gap for all cancer combined was approximately 30.14%. When calculated using the cancer-specific disability weights, a total of 1,967,830 (95% UI 1,928,880-2,008,060) YLDs of cancer were recorded in China. The disability weights of cancer varied greatly among cancer types and populations, which had considerable influence on the estimation of the disease burden. Cancer-specific disability weights could provide a more accurate evaluation of the cancer burden.

The massive production and accumulation of industrial solid waste (ISW) have led to environmental pollution and natural resource underutilization. China's efforts to build trial industrial waste resource utilization centers provide strong support for sustainable development. However, these centers and the factors driving ISW utilization have yet to be evaluated. This paper utilizes context-dependent data envelopment analysis models without explicit inputs (DEA-WEI) to evaluate the overall utilization performance of 48 industrial waste resource utilization centers in China from 2018 to 2020. It also builds a Tobit model to assess which indicators and waste types affect overall ISW utilization. The results show overall ISW utilization performance of centers in the sample has improved, with the average value falling from 1.7193 in 2018 to 1.5624 in 2020. However, there are clear regional performance gaps, with East China having the highest utilization performance (1.3113) while the Southwest had the lowest (2.2958). Finally, this paper proposes measures to improve the overall utilization of industrial waste resources based on an analysis of the factors driving solid waste utilization.

OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this research was to investigate whether MRI and Simultaneous Hybrid PET/MRI images were consistent in the histological classification of patients with focal cortical dysplasia. Additionally, this research aimed to evaluate the postoperative outcomes with the MRI and Simultaneous Hybrid PET/MRI images of focal cortical dysplasia. METHODS: A total of 69 cases in this research were evaluated preoperatively for drug-resistant seizures, and then surgical resection procedures of the epileptogenic foci were performed. The postoperative result was histopathologically confirmed as focal cortical dysplasia, and patients then underwent PET and MRI imaging within one month of the seizure. In this study, head MRI was performed using a 3.0 T magnetic resonance scanner (Philips) to obtain 3D T1WI images. The Siemens Biograph 16 scanner was used for a routine scanning of the head to obtain PET images. BrainLAB's iPlan software was used to fuse 3D T1 images with PET images to obtain PET/MRI images. RESULTS: Focal cortical dysplasia was divided into three types according to ILAE: three patients were classified as type I, twenty-five patients as type II, and forty-one patients as type III. Patients age of onset under 18 and age of operation over 18 had a longer duration (p = 0.036, p = 0.021). MRI had a high lesion detection sensitivity of type III focal cortical dysplasia (p = 0.003). Simultaneous Hybrid PET/MRI showed high sensitivity in detecting type II and III focal cortical dysplasia lesions (p = 0.037). The lesions in Simultaneous Hybrid PET/MRI-positive focal cortical dysplasia patients were mostly located in the temporal and multilobar (p = 0.005, 0.040). CONCLUSION: Simultaneous Hybrid PET/MRI has a high accuracy in detecting the classification of focal cortical dysplasia. The results of this study indicate that patients with focal cortical dysplasia with positive Simultaneous Hybrid PET/MRI have better postoperative prognoses.

Wearable intelligent health monitoring devices with on-device biomedical AI processor can be used to detect the abnormity in users' biomedical signals (e.g., ECG arrythmia classification, EEG-based seizure detection). This requires ultra-low power and reconfigurable biomedical AI processor to support battery-supplied wearable devices and versatile intelligent health monitoring applications while achieving high classification accuracy. However, existing designs have issues in meeting one or more of the above requirements. In this work, a reconfigurable biomedical AI processor (named BioAIP) is proposed, mainly featuring: 1) a reconfigurable biomedical AI processing architecture to support versatile biomedical AI processing. 2) an event-driven biomedical AI processing architecture with approximate data compression to reduce the power consumption. 3) an AI-based adaptive-learning architecture to address patient-to-patient variation and improve the classification accuracy. The design has been implemented and fabricated using a 65nm CMOS process technology. It has been demonstrated with three typical biomedical AI applications, including ECG arrythmia classification, EEG-based seizure detection and EMG-based hand gesture recognition. Compared with the state-of-the-art designs optimized for single biomedical AI tasks, the BioAIP achieves the lowest energy per classification among the designs with similar accuracy, while supporting various biomedical AI tasks.

Utilization of uranium resource in seawater are highly possible to meet the growth demands for the sustainable development of nuclear energy industry. Bio-adsorbents exhibit high performance in terms of adsorption selectivity, equilibrium speed, and environmental friendliness, while the high fabrication cost hinders their practical application. In this study, a low-cost soy protein isolate (SPI) is used to fabricate adsorbent named SPI hydrogel for uranium extraction. This is the first report on applying bio-adsorbents derived from low-cost natural proteins for uranium extraction. The SPI hydrogel showed high uranium adsorption capacity of 53.94 mg g-1 in simulated nuclear wastewater and 5.29 mg g-1 is achieved in natural seawater, which is higher than all currently available adsorbents based on non-modified natural biomolecules. The amino and oxygen-containing groups are identified as the functional groups for uranyl binding by providing four oxygen and two nitrogen atoms to form equatorial coordination with uranyl, which guarantees the high binding selectivity and affinity to uranyl ions. The low cost for accessing the raw material together with the environmental friendliness, high salt tolerance, high uranium adsorption ability, and high selectivity to uranium, make SPI hydrogel a promising adsorbent for uranium extraction from seawater and nuclear wastewater.

BACKGROUND: Postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD) often occurs in elderly patients, causing depression and other symptoms. Nucleus accumbens (NAc) is involved in depression. We investigate the diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) parameters of NAc in a POCD model of depression. METHODS: Twenty-month-old male Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were randomly divided into the POCD and Sham groups. The POCD group underwent exploratory laparotomy to establish a POCD depression model, while the Sham group underwent a sham operation. The fractional anisotropy (FA) and mean diffusivity (MD) values of the bilateral NAc, behavioural changes of forced swimming test and sucrose preference rate, and pathological changes of glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) fluorescent intensity were observed at 15 days (D15 ) and 30 days (D30 ) after the operation. RESULTS: The FA value of the bilateral NAc area in the POCD group was lower than that in the Sham group at the two time periods after the operation (P < 0.05). However, the MD value at D30 was higher in the POCD group than in the Sham group (P < 0.05). The FA value in the POCD group was lower at D30 than at D15 (P < 0.05). The floating time was prolonged while the sucrose preference rate was decreased in the POCD group compared with the Sham group (P < 0.05). The floating time in the POCD group was longer at D30 than at D15 . However, the sucrose preference rate in the POCD was lower at D30 than at D15 . The GFAP fluorescent intensity in the bilateral NAc region in the POCD group was higher than in the Sham group (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Microstructural changes of the NAc area are associated with POCD related depression. In addition, FA and MD were demonstrated to be effective in diagnosing and monitoring postoperative depression and its severity.

In environmental authoritarian countries, environmental pollution control relies on government environmental regulation. Theoretically, the certainty and severity of environmental regulation are the key factors in achieving its political goals. According to regulatory space theory, an effective regulatory system needs regulatory power and resources. However, the effectiveness of regulation may be decreased by the desperate need for resources, and the regulated enterprises can also affect environmental regulation through their information advantage and social networks. This paper focuses on how local environmental regulation can be achieved under these conditions. The analysis is conducted from two perspectives: the deterrence effect of punishment and the political connections maintained by enterprises. An empirical test was conducted by analyzing the research data from the 12th China Private Enterprise Survey in 2016. The study found that the severity of punishment is a mediator of environmental regulation in the promotion of enterprises' investment in pollution control, and that it is moderated by the political relationships of enterprise managers. Compared with counterparts that have a less substantial political network, enterprises with more political networks may feel more pressure from environmental regulation policies, which leads to higher pollution fines. However, the promotion effect of environmental fines on an enterprise's investment in pollution control is weakened due to its political relationships, thus weakening the effectiveness of the punishment. This paper clarifies the mechanism through which political connections weaken the effect of environmental regulation: political connections encourage firms to avoid real harm and do false good. Regulation is supposed to use fines as an incentive to improve the environment, but politically connected companies are more willing to pay fines (doing false good), than to invest in cleaning up pollution (avoiding real harm).

The environmental Kuznets curve (EKC) is often used to analyze the relationship between environmental pollution health indicators and economic development level in different regions. In developed countries, the blood lead levels (BLLs) of children have been declining fitting the EKC since the 1970s. However, such figures in China have remained at relatively high levels, without any obvious decline, since 2010. We explored spatial variations and graded countermeasures using reported data on BLLs including the lead poisoning rates (LPRs) of children. We found that there were prefectures where either the mean BLLs of the children had reached 100.00 µg/L or the LPRs of more than 40% of the children had reached 100 µg/L. When we reduced the average BLLs to 50 µg/L or lowered the proportion of children with a lead poisoning rate (LPR) above 100 µg/L to 10.00%, the EKC trend decreased, and the linear slope after 2010 became -0.202. If the areas where children's BLLs exceeded 50.00 µg/L or the proportion of children with an LPR above 100 µg/L was more than 10.00% will be controlled, the linear slope of the EKC decrease trend after 2010 will became -0.989, and the national average of children's BLLs would decline by 22.17%. The study concluded that children's BLLs in different regions of China are situated at different EKC stages, and urgent prevention and control strategies must be put in place for undeveloped areas.

Rapid growth is one of the most important economic traits in broiler breeding programs. Identifying markers and genes for growth traits may not only benefit marker-assisted selection (MAS)/genomic selection (GS) but also provide important information for understanding the genetic architecture of growth traits in broilers. In the present study, an F2 resource population derived from a cross between the broiler and Baier yellow chicken (a Chinese local breed) was used and body weights from 1 to 12 weeks of age [body weight (BW) 1-BW12)] were measured. A total of 519 F2 birds were genome re-sequenced, and a combination of genome-wide association study (GWAS) and selective sweep analysis was carried out to characterize the genetic architecture affecting chicken body weight comprehensively. As a result, 1,539 SNPs with significant effects on body weights at different weeks of age were identified using a genome-wide efficient mixed-model association (GEMMA) package. These SNPs were distributed on chromosomes 1 and 4. Besides, windows under selection identified for BW1-BW12 varied from 1,581 to 2,265. A total of 42 genes were also identified with significant effects on BW1-BW12 based on both GWAS and selective sweep analysis. Among these genes, diacylglycerol kinase eta (DGKH), deleted in lymphocytic leukemia (DLEU7), forkhead box O17 (FOXO1), karyopherin subunit alpha 3 (KPNA3), calcium binding protein 39 like (CAB39L), potassium voltage-gated channel interacting protein 4 (KCNIP4), and slit guidance ligand 2 (SLIT2) were considered as important genes for broiler growth based on their basic functions. The results of this study may supply important information for understanding the genetic architecture of growth traits in broilers.

The study of heavy metal pollution in mine soil of the Yangtze River Economic Belt is important for promoting the ecological restoration of mines and the construction of green mines in the Yangtze River Economic Belt. For this study, we collected the relevant research on the pollution of heavy metals in the mine soil of the Yangtze River Economic Belt from 2006 to 2020 and studied the pollution status, distribution law, and health risk of heavy metals by using the land accumulation index method, Kriging interpolation method, and health risk assessment method. The results showed that the average contents of Pb, Cd, Cr, Hg, As, Zn, Ni, and Cu in mine soil far exceeded the background value in China, and the accumulation degree of Cd and Hg was significant. The pollution evaluation results showed that the pollution degree of the eight heavy metals was Cd>Hg>Pb>Zn>Cu>As>Ni>Cr, the pollution degree of Cd and Hg was the highest, and more than 60% of the sample points were at medium pollution. The pollution evaluation showed that the soil pollution of tin and lead-zinc mines was more prominent than that of other minerals. The health risk assessment indicated that oral intake was the main intake route for non-carcinogenic and carcinogenic risks, the total non-carcinogenic and carcinogenic risk index was within the unacceptable range, and the non-carcinogenic and carcinogenic risk of mine soil in the middle and upper reaches of the Yangtze River Economic Belt was significantly higher than that in the lower reaches.

In the last decade, more and more attention has been paid to the efficiency of ecological products' value in the literature. Studying the value-conversion efficiency of forest ecological products can measure and reflect the huge value contained in forests, which is of great significance to promote the transformation between "clear water and green mountains" and "gold and silver mountains" as well as solve the problem of economic development and environmental protection. Studying the value-conversion efficiency of forest ecological products can scientifically evaluate the results of the mutual transformation of "clear water and green mountains" and "gold and silver mountains", which is of great significance for deepening the theory of the "two mountains". This paper took Zhejiang Province as the research object, constructed an index system of forest ecological products' value accounting, used the super-SBM model and Malmquist index to calculate the conversion efficiency of forest ecological products' value, and proposed optimization paths according to the research results. The results showed that: (1) From 2000 to 2020, the value of forest ecological products in Zhejiang Province showed a fluctuating upward trend. In 2020, the total value of forest ecological products was RMB 973.717 billion. Among them, the value of material products was RMB 12.560 billion, the value of ecological regulatory products was RMB 726.323 billion, and the value of cultural service products was RMB 234.834 billion. (2) There were great differences in the value-conversion efficiency of forest ecological products among cities in Zhejiang Province, but the overall trend was steady and developing in a positive direction. (3) The total-factor productivity of forest ecological products in Zhejiang Province showed a fluctuating trend, and its growth was mainly limited by the technical efficiency and technological progress index. (4) The main reasons for the conversion-efficiency loss of forest ecological products' value in Zhejiang Province were excessive input and insufficient output. The specific reasons for the loss of efficiency in different cities were different, so it is necessary to find improvement paths according to local conditions. Our research provides a new perspective for the academic community to evaluate the value-realization effect of ecological products as well as a decision-making reference for policy makers of ecological environmental protection and construction.

Gossypium hirsutum (upland cotton) is one of the most economically important crops worldwide, which has experienced the long terms of evolution and domestication process from wild species to cultivated accessions. However, nucleotide evolution, domestication selection, and the genetic relationship of cotton species remain largely to be studied. In this study, we used chloroplast genome sequences to determine the evolutionary rate, domestication selection, and genetic relationships of 72 cotton genotypes (36 cultivated cotton accessions, seven semi-wild races of G. hirsutum, and 29 wild species). Evolutionary analysis showed that the cultivated tetraploid cotton genotypes clustered into a single clade, which also formed a larger lineage with the semi-wild races. Substitution rate analysis demonstrated that the rates of nucleotide substitution and indel variation were higher for the wild species than the semi-wild and cultivated tetraploid lineages. Selection pressure analysis showed that the wild species might have experienced greater selection pressure, whereas the cultivated cotton genotypes underwent artificial and domestication selection. Population clustering analysis indicated that the cultivated cotton accessions and semi-wild races have existed the obviously genetic differentiation. The nucleotide diversity was higher in the semi-wild races compared with the cultivated genotypes. In addition, genetic introgression and gene flow occurred between the cultivated tetraploid cotton and semi-wild genotypes, but mainly via historical rather than contemporary gene flow. These results provide novel molecular mechanisms insights into the evolution and domestication of economically important crop cotton species.

Antibiotics are mostly collected by sewage systems, but not completely removed within wastewater treatment plants. Their release to aquatic environment poses a great threat to public health. This study evaluated the removal of a widely used fluoroquinolone antibiotic, ciprofloxacin, in enriched nitrifying culture through a series of experiments by controlling ammonium concentrations and inhibiting functional microorganisms. The removal efficiency of ciprofloxacin at an initial concentration of 50 µg L-1 reached 81.86 ± 3.21% in the presence of ammonium, while only 22.83 ± 8.22% of ciprofloxacin was removed in its absence. A positive linear correlation was found between the ammonia oxidation rate (AOR) and ciprofloxacin biodegradation rate. These jointly confirmed the importance of the AOB-induced cometabolism in ciprofloxacin biodegradation, with adsorption and metabolic degradation pathways playing minor roles. The continuous exposure of AOB to ciprofloxacin led to decreases of ammonia monooxygenase (AMO) activities and AOR. The antibacterial effects of ciprofloxacin and its biodegradation products were further evaluated and the results revealed that biodegradation products of ciprofloxacin exhibited less toxicity compared to the parent compound, implying the potential application of cometabolism in alleviation of antimicrobial activity. The findings provided new insights into the AOB-induced cometabolic biodegradation of fluoroquinolone antibiotics.
