RESUMO

Moslae Herba (MH) can be used for both medicine and food and has a long history of medicine. MH has the effects of sweating and relieving the exterior, removing dampness and harmonizing, and is mainly used for colds caused by damp heat in summer. It is called "Xiayue Zhi Mahuang" in China. So far, 123 chemical compounds have been isolated and identified from MH, including flavonoids, terpenoids, phenolic acids, phenylpropanoids, and other chemical compounds. Its chemical components have a wide range of pharmacological activities, including antibacterial, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, analgesic sedation, antipyretic, immune regulation, insecticidal, and other effects. In addition, because of its aromatic odor and health care function, MH also has development and utilization value in food, chemical, and other fields. This paper reviewed the research progress of MH in botany, traditional uses, phytochemistry, and pharmacology and provided a possible direction for further research.

RESUMO

Accurate quantification of mitral regurgitation (MR) severity is critical for appropriate clinical decision making regarding surgical intervention. General imaging three-dimensional quantification (GI3DQ) method allows for direct measurement of mitral regurgitant jet volume (MRJvol) with the help of three-dimensional (3D) color flow Doppler imaging. The aim of this study was to evaluate diagnostic value of MRJvol by GI3DQ for MR grading severity, using the guideline recommended integrated approach as a reference. The study included ninety-seven patients with varying degree of MR, and all MR cases were divided into central MR group (n = 44) and eccentric MR group (n = 53). The MRJvol was measured by GI3DQ. The severity of MR was graded on the basis of recommended integrated approach as mild, moderate, or severe. As assessed by receiver operating characteristic analysis, MRJvol by GI3DQ at a cutoff value of 43.4 ml yielded 76.9% of sensitivity and 86.9% of specificity to differentiate moderate from severe MR in all cases, a cutoff value of 47.5 ml yielded 98.9% of sensitivity and 94.4% of specificity to differentiate moderate from severe MR in central MR, and a cutoff value of 40.7 ml yielded 80.0% of sensitivity and 78.6% of specificity to differentiate moderate from severe MR in eccentric MR. MRJvol measured by GI3DQ could assess MR severity, especially in central MR group, which has higher sensitivity and specificity to differentiate moderate from severe MR.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Mitral regurgitation volume (MRvol) by quantitative pulsed Doppler (QPD) method previously recommended suffers from geometric assumption error because of circular geometric assumption of mitral annulus (MA). Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of different geometric assumption of MA on the assessment of MRvol by two-dimensional transthoracic echocardiographic QPD method. METHODS: This study included 88 patients with varying degrees of mitral regurgitation (MR). The MRvol was evaluated by QPD method using circular or ellipse geometric assumption of MA. MRvol derived from effective regurgitant orifice area by real time three-dimensional echocardiography (RT3DE) multiplied by MR velocity-time integral was used as reference method. RESULTS: Assumption of a circular geometry of MA, QPD-MAA4C and QPD-MAPLAX overestimated the MRvol by a mean difference of 10.4 ml (P < 0.0001) and 22.5 ml (P < 0.0001) compared with RT3DE. Assumption of an ellipse geometry of MA, there was no significant difference of MRvol (mean difference = 1.7 ml, P = 0.0844) between the QPD-MAA4C + A2C and the RT3DE. CONCLUSIONS: Assuming that the MA was circular geometry previously recommended, the MRvol by QPD-MAA4C was overestimated compared with the reference method. However, assuming that the MA was ellipse geometry, the MRvol by the QPD-MAA4C + A2C has no significant difference with the reference method.

RESUMO

STUDY DESIGN: A retrospective study of 257 normal children at a single center from July 2016 to November 2018 was performed. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the spinopelvic parameters in a population of normal children and adolescents in mainland China. SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA: Values for sagittal parameters of the spine vary significantly by ages and different population. No study has yet quantified the normal measures for children and adolescents in China, or how these measures compare with other populations. METHODS: Pelvic incidence (PI), sacral slope, pelvic tilt, thoracic kyphosis (TK, T5-T12), lumbar lordosis (LL, L1-S1), and sagittal vertical axis were measured and evaluated by whole spine AP&lateral X-ray images. RESULTS: A total of 257 subjects, including 116 boys (45%) and 141 girls (55%) aged 3 to 12 years, were enrolled. Correlation matrix analysis demonstrated that sagittal balance is strongly correlated with age and Risser sign, including PI, a reported fixed parameter. Further investigation showed that PI could be expressed by the equation PI = 26.243+1.153×age. CONCLUSION: PI was not a fixed but a dynamic parameter in the population under 12-year old. Indeed, PI increases with age and bone maturity in childhood. We also found lower PI, pelvic tilt, and sacral slope compared with published studies of adolescents in other countries. These results may aid in the treatment of patients with spinal deformity, to help them achieve a certain degree of sagittal spinopelvic balance. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: 2.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to assess the changes of RA function in patients with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) using velocity vector imaging (VVI) and to evaluate the application of VVI technology. METHODS: According to the apnea-hypopnea index (AHI), 71 patients with OSAS were divided into three groups: mild, moderate, and severe. A total of 30 cases of healthy subjects were enrolled as the control group. Digital images of apex four-chamber views were acquired to measure the right atrium (RA) linear dimensions and volume parameters including RA longitudinal diameter (RAL), transverse diameter (RAT), RA maximum volume (Vmax), RA minimum volume (Vmin), right atrial volume before contraction (Vpre). Right atrial volume parameters were corrected by body surface area (VImax, VImin, VIpre). The total right atrial emptying fraction (RATEF), right atrial passive emptying fraction (RAPEF), right atrial active contraction emptying fraction (RAAEF) were calculated. The VVI data measuring right atrial global strain (RA-GLS), right atrial strain rate in ventricular systolic phase (RA-SRs), right atrial strain rate in ventricular early diastolic phase (RA-SRe), right atrial strain rate in ventricular late diastolic phase (RA-SRa). RESULTS: 1. RA linear dimensions and volume parameters in severe OSAS were higher than those of control group. RAPEF in severe group was lower than control group and mild OSAS group (t = 2.681, P = 0.021; t = 2.985, P = 0.011; respectively). RAAEF in OSAS moderate group was higher than that of control group (t = 3.006, P = 0.02), and without statistical difference (P > 0.05) in the severe OSAS group and the control group. 2. RA-GLS in moderate OSAS group was significantly lower than that of control group (t = 2.333, P = 0.040) and reduced more obvious in the severe OSAS group (vs control, t = 3.25, P = 0.008, vs mild; t = 3.011, P = 0.012; respectively). RA-SRe in moderate and severe OSAS groups were lower than control group (t = 2.466, P = 0.031; t = 3.547, P = 0.005; respectively). RA-SRs of OSAS in severe group was lower than that of control and mild groups (t = 3.665, P = 0.004; t = 3.204, P = 0.008; respectively). RA-SRa in severe OSAS group was lower than that of control group (t = 2.425, P = 0.034). 3. Multivariate regression analysis showed that RA-GLS and RA-SRe were independently correlated with AHI (t = - 2.738, P = 0.010; t = - 2.191, P = 0.036; respectively). CONCLUSION: RA function was impaired in patients with OSAS. On hemodynamics, the change of RA function performed increased of reserve function, reduced pipeline function and increased of contraction function. However, the strain and strain rate reduced in different degree. RA-GLS and RA-SRe decreased the earliest, which suggested that strain and strain rate were the parameters which can reflect myocardial function damage earliest. VVI can more earlier and accurately detect myocardial dysfunction of right atrium in patients with OSAS, which is expected to be a worthy technique for early clinical therapy in patients with OSAS.

RESUMO

A high-sensitivity, low-cost, ultrathin, hollow fiber micro bubble structure was proposed; such a bubble can be used to develop a high-sensitivity strain sensor based on a Fabry-Perot interferometer (FPI). The micro bubble is fabricated at the fiber tip by splicing a glass tube to a single mode fiber (SMF) and then the glass tube is filled with gas in order to expand and form a micro bubble. The sensitivity of the strain sensor with a cavity length of about 155 µm and a bubble wall thickness of about 6 µm was measured to be up to 8.14 pm/µÏµ.

RESUMO

Flocculant modified soils/clays are being increasingly studied as geo-engineering materials for lake restoration and harmful algal bloom control. However, the potential impacts of adding these materials in aquatic ecological systems remain unclear. This study investigated the potential effects of chitosan, cationic starch, chitosan modified soils (MS-C) and cationic starch modified soils (MS-S) on the aquatic organisms by using a bioassay battery. The toxicity potential of these four flocculants was quantitatively assessed using an integrated biotic toxicity index (BTI). The test system includes four aquatic species, namely Chlorella vulgaris, Daphnia magna, Cyprinus carpio and Limnodrilus hoffmeisteri, which represent four trophic levels in the freshwater ecosystem. Results showed that median effect concentrations (EC50) of the MS-C and MS-S were 31-124 times higher than chitosan and cationic starch, respectively. D. magna was the most sensitive species to the four flocculants. Histological examination of C. carpio showed that significant pathological changes were found in gills. Different from chitosan and cationic starch, MS-C and MS-S significantly alleviated the acute toxicities of chitosan and cationic starch. The toxicity order of the four flocculants based on BTI were cationic starch > chitosan > MS-S > MS-C. The results suggested that BTI can be used as a quantitative and comparable indicator to assess biotic toxicity for aquatic geo-engineering materials. Chitosan or cationic starch modified soil/clay materials can be used at their optimal dosage without causing substantial adverse effects to the bioassay battery in aquatic ecosystem.

RESUMO

In order to countermeasure increasingly serious threat from hostile laser in modern war, it is urgent to do research on laser warning technology and system, and the sensitivity and signal to noise ratio (SNR) are two important performance parameters in laser warning system. In the present paper, based on the signal statistical detection theory, a method for calculation of the sensitivity and SNR in coherent detection laser warning receiver (LWR) has been proposed. Firstly, the probabilities of the laser signal and receiver noise were analyzed. Secondly, based on the threshold detection theory and Neyman-Pearson criteria, the signal current equation was established by introducing detection probability factor and false alarm rate factor, then, the mathematical expressions of sensitivity and SNR were deduced. Finally, by using method, the sensitivity and SNR of the sinusoidal grating laser warning receiver developed by our group were analyzed, and the theoretic calculation and experimental results indicate that the SNR analysis method is feasible, and can be used in performance analysis of LWR.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To study the effects of tongjiang granule (TJG) on reflux esophagitis (RE) in rats. METHODS: Two rat models of RE were established respectively by cardioplasty + pyloric ligation + Roux-en-Y gastro-jejunum anastomosis and by placed a fixed steel ring into the gastric cardia, and the model rats were treated with various dosages of TJG or cisapride by gastric perfusion. RESULTS: Rat models were established successfully by both methods. The score of pathological changes of esophagus mucosa in the model rats, made by either method, after high-dosage TJG treatment was lower than that in the model rats (P < 0.05), but equal to that in the cisapride treated model rats. High and moderate dosages of TJG were shown by transmission electron microscope to have effects of alleviating heckle cells and inflammatory reaction. They could reduce the level of gastric acid, more significant in high and moderate dosage groups (P < 0.05), while cisapride couldn't. CONCLUSION: TJG is effective in treating experimental RE in rats to a certain extent.

RESUMO

Two apparently different types of mechanisms have emerged to explain diastolic suction (DS), that property of the left ventricle (LV) that tends to cause it to refill itself during early diastole independent of any force from the left atrium (LA). By means of the first mechanism, DS depends on decreased elastance [e.g., the relaxation time constant (tau)] and, by the second, end-systolic volume (V(LVES)). We used wave-intensity analysis (WIA) to measure the total energy transported by the backward expansion wave (I(W-)) during LV relaxation in an attempt to reconcile these mechanisms. In six anesthetized, open-chest dogs, we measured aortic, LV (P(LV)), LA (P(LA)), and pericardial pressures and LV volume by orthogonal ultrasonic crystals. Mitral velocity was measured by Doppler echocardiography, and aortic velocity was measured by an ultrasonic flow probe. Heart rate was controlled by pacing, V(LVES) by volume loading, and tau by isoproterenol or esmolol administration. I(W-) was found to be inversely related to tau and V(LVES). Our measure of DS, the energy remaining after mitral valve opening, I(W-DS), was also found to be inversely related to tau and V(LVES) and was approximately 10% of the total "aspirating" energy generated by LV relaxation (i.e., I(W-)). The size of the Doppler (early filling) E wave depended on I(W-DS) in addition to I(W+), the energy associated with LA decompression. We conclude that the energy of the backward-going wave generated by the LV during relaxation depends on both the rate at which elastance decreases (i.e., tau) and V(LVES). WIA provides a new approach for assessing DS and reconciles those two previously proposed mechanisms. The E wave depends on DS in addition to LA decompression.
