RESUMO

Tourism is one of the most important promoters of sustainable development in many nations and regions around the globe. Tourism expansion has been a significant contributor to social and economic growth, particularly in developing economies. It is, however, vulnerable to all kinds of health crises and natural disasters, no matter how small they are. The primary purpose of this study is to acquire an empirical understanding of the effects of health crises and disasters on international tourism. The SYS-GMM was used to examine the impact of health calamities and crises, carbon footprints from transportation, and green finance on the tourism of 51 countries between 2007 and 2020. The results showed that health crises and natural disasters have a big effect on international tourism. Alternatively, the presence of eco-friendly and secure transportation at tourist destinations has a positive effect on the tourism industry. The results also showed that environmental expenditures have positive short- and long-term effects on international tourism. Furthermore, the sensitivity of travelers to health crises and natural disasters varies over the short and long term. The study also showed that compared to normal times, international tourism dropped by more than 67% during COVID-19. Consequently, this research assists us in comprehending, predicting, and preventing the potential adverse effects of COVID-19 and other similar economic, health disasters and crises that could occur in the future and harm the tourism industry.

The dysfunction of the blood circulation system typically induces acute or chronic ischemia in limbs and vital organs, with high disability and mortality. While conventional tomographic imaging modalities have shown good performance in the diagnosis of circulatory diseases, multiple limitations remain for real-time and precise hemodynamic evaluation. Recently, fluorescence imaging in the second region of the near-infrared (NIR-II, 1000-1700 nm) has garnered great attention in monitoring and tracing various biological processes in vivo due to its advantages of high spatial-temporal resolution and real-time feature. Herein, we employed NIR-II imaging to carry out a blood circulation assessment by aggregation-induced emission fluorescent aggregates (AIE nano contrast agent, AIE NPs). Thanks to the longer excited wavelength, enhanced absorptivity, higher brightness in the NIR-II region, and broader optimal imaging window of the AIE NPs, we have realized a multidirectional assessment for blood circulation in mice with a single NIR-II imaging modality. Thus, our work provides a fluorescence contrast agent platform for accurate hemodynamic assessment.

Mining activities induce some social problems, such as polluted environments, the destruction of aquatic live, which have long been debated by scholars and practitioners. To mitigate this problem, underpinning dynamic capability view, our study explores whether the digital transformation (DT) affects corporate social responsibility (CSR) by using 1308 Chinese mining A-shared listed firms from 2010 to 2021, and how the potential relationship is moderated by environmental uncertainty (EU) and supply chain concentration (SCC). Applying fixed effects regressions, we find that DT fosters CSR in the mining industry, but CSR performance is weakened when DT processed at higher EU and SCC respectively. Our findings enrich the literature on CSR of mining industry and highlight that DT is an important driver that shapes CSR practice.

Electrochemically activating peroxydisulfate (PDS) to degrade organic pollutants is one of the most attractive advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) to address environmental issues, but the high cost, poor stability, and low degradation efficiency of the anode materials hinder their application. Herein, an economic, self-supporting, robust, and durable LiFe5O8 on Fe substrate (Fe@LFO) anode is reported to degrade sulfamethoxazole (SMX). When PDS is electrochemically activated by the Fe@LFO anode, the degradation rate of SMX is significantly improved. It is found that hydroxyl radicals (•OH), superoxide radical (O2•-), singlet oxygen (1O2), Fe(Ⅳ), activated PDS (PDS*), and direct electron transfer (DET) reactions synergistically contribute to the degradation of SMX, which can realize the degradation of SMX in four possible routes: cleavage of the isoxazole ring, hydroxylation of the benzene ring, oxidation of the aniline group, and cleavage of the S-N bond, as evidenced by a series of tests of radicals quenching, electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR), linear sweep voltammetry (LSV) and liquid chromatograph mass spectrometer (LC-MS). Furthermore, Fe@LFO has good structural stability, excellent cyclability and low degradation cost, demonstrating its great potential for practical applications. This work contributes to a stable and effective anode material in the field of AOPs.

Background: To investigate the feasibility of using shear wave dispersion (SWD) imaging to evaluate hepatic acute graft-versus-host disease (aGVHD) in a rat model. Methods: To establish an aGVHD model, 30 Wistar rats were subjected to bone marrow transplantation, 10 Fischer 344 rats were used as donors, and 6 Wistar rats were used as the control group. Each week, 6 rats were randomly chosen and divided into groups of 1 week (1 w) to 5 weeks (5 w). For each subgroup, the rats received a clinical index assessment and shear wave dispersion (SWD) examination with 2 quantitative values, shear wave (SW) speed and SWD slope. The histological characteristics were then used as the reference standard to divide the rats into the aGVHD group and the no aGVHD (nGVHD) group. Results: In the 2 weeks (2 w) group, only SWD slope [median: 7.26, interquartile range (IQR): 7.04 to 7.31] showed a significant increase in the measured value (P<0.05). The value of the 3 weeks (3 w) group (median: 7.88, IQR: 7.84 to 8.49) significantly increased compared with the 2 w value (P<0.05). Although the value increased gradually from week 3 to week 5, it had no statistical significance (P>0.05). The SW speed [mean ± standard deviation (SD): 1.54±0.11, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.48 to 1.59] and SWD slope (mean ± SD: 8.29±0.56, 95% CI: 7.99 to 8.59) of the aGVHD group were higher than those of the control group and the nGVHD group (P<0.001). The correlation of SWD slope with pathological grade was the highest (r=0.798, P<0.01), followed by SW speed (r=0.785, P<0.01), and the correlation of clinical index with pathological grade was the lowest (r=0.751, P<0.01). In addition, the area under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve (AUC) value of aGVHD using the SWD slope was 0.844 (95% CI: 0.67 to 0.95, sensitivity: 93.75%, specificity: 78.57%), which was higher than the AUC of both SW speed and clinical index, and the difference was statistically significant compared to the AUC of the clinical index. Conclusions: The SWD slope could show significant abnormalities earlier than SW speed and clinical index and is also more consistent with the change in aGVHD severity level. The SWD slope may help in detecting hepatic aGVHD during ultrasound SWD examination.

BACKGROUND: Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is the driving force of blindness in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). DR has a high prevalence and lacks effective therapeutic strategies, underscoring the need for early prevention and treatment. Yunnan province, located in the southwest plateau of China, has a high pre-valence of DR and an underdeveloped economy. AIM: To build a clinical prediction model that will enable early prevention and treatment of DR. METHODS: In this cross-sectional study, 1654 Han population with T2DM were divided into groups without (n = 826) and with DR (n = 828) based on fundus photography. The DR group was further subdivided into non-proliferative DR (n = 403) and proliferative DR (n = 425) groups. A univariate analysis and logistic regression analysis were conducted and a clinical decision tree model was constructed. RESULTS: Diabetes duration ≥ 10 years, female sex, standing- or supine systolic blood pressure (SBP) ≥ 140 mmHg, and cholesterol ≥ 6.22 mmol/L were risk factors for DR in logistic regression analysis (odds ratio = 2.118, 1.520, 1.417, 1.881, and 1.591, respectively). A greater severity of chronic kidney disease (CKD) or hemoglobin A 1c increased the risk of DR in patients with T2DM. In the decision tree model, diabetes duration was the primary risk factor affecting the occurrence of DR in patients with T2DM, followed by CKD stage, supine SBP, standing SBP, and body mass index (BMI). DR classification outcomes were obtained by evaluating standing SBP or BMI according to the CKD stage for diabetes duration < 10 years and by evaluating CKD stage according to the supine SBP for diabetes duration ≥ 10 years. CONCLUSION: Based on the simple and intuitive decision tree model constructed in this study, DR classification outcomes were easily obtained by evaluating diabetes duration, CKD stage, supine or standing SBP, and BMI.

The risk factors and precautions of inpatient suicide were explored. Thirty suicide victims were drawn from the adverse event reports of suicidal act during hospitalization in a general hospital from 2008 to 2014. Data were gathered from the focus group interviews of twelve nurses who had experienced inpatient suicide. The data were analyzed by using analytical technique based on grounded theory, and software QSR NVIVO8 was used to aid the collation of data. Three main themes of risk factors about inpatient suicide emerged from the analysis: individual value, social factors and environmental factors. The individual value was categorized into different groups such as sense of guilt, hopelessness and low self-esteem. Social factors included two aspects of negative life events and social support. Three themes of precautions about inpatient suicide appeared in this study: evaluation, nursing and information exchange. Evaluation was elaborated from both physical and psychological assessments. This finding extends existing work of risk factors and precautions about inpatient suicide and brings new knowledge about the reasons why inpatients commit suicide.

Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have identified several genetic susceptibility loci for breast cancer (BC). One of them, conducted among Chinese women, found an association of rs2046210 at 6q25.1 with the risk of BC recently. Since then, numerous association studies have been carried out to investigate the relationship between this polymorphism and BC risk in various populations. However, these have yielded contradictory results. We therefore performed a meta-analysis to clarify this inconsistency. Overall, a total of 235003 subjects based on 13 studies were included in our study. Significantly increased BC risk was detected in the pooled analysis [allele contrast: OR = 1.13, 95%CI = 1.10-1.17, P(Z) <10(-5), P(Q) <10(-4); dominant model: OR = 1.21, 95%CI = 1.14-1.27, P(Z) <10(-5), P(Q) <10(-4); recessive model: OR = 1.18, 95%CI = 1.12-1.24, P(Z) <10(-5), P(Q) = 0.04]. In addition, our data revealed that rs2046210 conferred greater risk in estrogen receptor (ER)-negative tumors [OR = 1.27, 95%CI = 1.15-1.40, P(Z) <10(-5), P(Q) <10(-4)] than in ER-positive ones [OR = 1.18, 95%CI = 1.09-1.28, P(Z) <10(-4), P(Q) = 0.0003]. When stratified by ethnicity, significant associations were found in Caucasian and Asian populations, but not detected among Africans. There was evidence of heterogeneity (P<0.05), however, the heterogeneity largely disappeared after stratification by ethnicity. The present meta-analysis demonstrated that the rs2046210 polymorphism may be associated with increased BC susceptibility, but this association varies in different ethnicities.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate viral relapse and the associated risk factors during a long-term follow-up study of chronic hepatitis C (CHC) patients who achieved end-of-treatment response (ETR) after interferon and ribavirin therapy. METHODS: This retrospective study was conducted on 146 CHC patients treated with a combination of ribavirin and pegylated (PEG) interferon-alpha (IFNa) (n=126) or conventional IFNa (n=20) for 24 (hepatitis C virus (HCV) non-genotype 1b) or 48 (HCV genotype 1b) weeks. The main outcome measure was serum HCV RNA load. The risk factors analyzed included age, sex, HCV genotype, baseline HCV RNA load, and IFN type. RESULTS: The mean follow-up time for all patients was 33.45+/-16.41 months (range: 12-85 months). The cumulative relapse rate during follow-up was 14.80%. The relapse rate within six months (8.90%) was significantly higher than other periods during two years of follow-up, and no relapse occurred after 30 months. Of all relapsers (n=20), 65% occurred within six months, followed by 35% within 7-24 months after antiviral therapy. The relapse rates in patients with HCV genotype 1b and non-1b were not significantly different (20.37% vs. 12.12%, X2 =1.517, P=0.315). The mean baseline HCV RNA load was significantly higher in the relapsers than that in the non-relapsers (t=0.915, P=0.362). Relapse rates were similar in patients treated with PEG-IFNa-2b, PEG-IFNa-2a and IFNa (12.12% vs. 13.97% vs. 15.00%, respectively; X2=0.104, p=0.949). The mean age of relapsers was significantly higher than that of non-relapsers (P less than 0.005). CONCLUSION: The maximum probability of relapse for CHC patients exists within six months from when ETR is achieved by interferon and ribavirin therapy. A lower risk for relapse persists past this period. Thus, ETR CHC patients, especially older patients, should be carefully monitored during the two years after cessation of antiviral therapy. Standard antiviral therapy based on HCV genotype eliminates the influence of viral factors on treatment-response.

Leucine-rich repeat kinase 2 (LRRK2, PARK8) gene has attracted considerable attention since the variants in this gene are recognized as the most common cause of Parkinson's disease (PD) so far. A number of association studies concerning variants of LRRK2 gene and PD susceptibility have been conducted in various populations. However, some results were inconclusive. To derive a more precise estimation of the relationship between LRRK2 and genetic risk of PD, we performed a comprehensive meta-analysis which included 27,363 cases and 29,741 controls from 61 published case-control studies. Totally, the effect of five LRRK2 variants all within the coding regions, i.e. G2019S, G2385R, R1628P, P755L and A419V, were evaluated in the meta-analysis using fixed effect model or random effects model if heterogeneity existed. There were genetic associations between four variants (G2019S, G2385R, R1628P and A419V) and increased PD risk, while there was no evidence of statistically significant association between P755L and PD. Publication bias and heterogeneity were absent in most analyses. Within its limitations, this meta-analysis demonstrated that the G2019S, G2385R, R1628P and A419V variations are risk factors associated with increased PD susceptibility. However, these associations vary in different ethnicities.
