RESUMO

BACKGROUND: This study aimed to introduce a novel optical coherence tomography-derived fractional flow reserve (FFR) computational approach and assess the diagnostic performance of the algorithm for assessing physiological function. METHODS: The fusion of coronary optical coherence tomography and angiography was used to generate a novel FFR algorithm (AccuFFRoct) to evaluate functional ischemia of coronary stenosis. In the current study, a total of 34 consecutive patients were included, and AccuFFRoct was used to calculate the FFR for these patients. With the wire-measured FFR as the reference standard, we evaluated the performance of our approach by accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), and negative predictive value (NPV). RESULTS: Per vessel accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, PPV, and NPV for AccuFFRoct in identifying hemodynamically significant coronary stenosis were 93.8%, 94.7%, 92.3%, 94.7%, and 92.3%, respectively, were found. Good correlation (Pearson's correlation coefficient r = 0.80, p < 0.001) between AccuFFRoct and FFR was observed. The Bland-Altman analysis showed a mean difference value of -0.037 (limits of agreement: -0.189 to 0.115). The area under the receiver-operating characteristic curve (AUC) of AccuFFRoct in identifying physiologically significant stenosis was 0.94, which was higher than the minimum lumen area (MLA, AUC = 0.91) and significantly higher than the diameter stenosis (%DS, AUC = 0.78). CONCLUSIONS: This clinical study shows the efficiency and accuracy of AccuFFRoct for clinical implementation when using invasive FFR measurement as a reference. It could provide important insights into coronary imaging superior to current methods based on the degree of coronary artery stenosis.

RESUMO

In order to fully understand the pollution of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in Dongting Lake, 209 PCB congeners were quantitatively detected and analyzed by isotope-dilution high-resolution mass spectrometry in 21 surface water sampling sites of Dongting Lake and the inflow rivers of the lake. The results showed that a total of 50 PCB congeners were detected in the study area. The ρ(ΣPCBs) ranged from 0.077 to 10 ng·L-1, with an average concentration of 2.7 ng·L-1 and a median concentration of 1.9 ng·L-1. The order of contamination concentrations were as follows:the inflow rivers of the lake > lake region > outlet. Compared with the reports of domestic and foreign studies, PCB pollution in Dongting Lake is at a low level. The main pollutants in the surface water were dichlorobiphenyls and tri- and tetrachlorobiphenyls, with relative abundances of 67%, 14%, and 16%, respectively. PCB11, PCB17, PCB18, PCB20+33, PCB28, PCB47+75, PCB52, and PCB68 were the most widely distributed and detected in more than 80% of samples. Among them, ρ(PCB11) was the highest, with an average concentration of 1.6 ng·L-1, accounting for 59% of ρ(ΣPCBs), from the domestic organic pigment production process of unintentional emissions. Atmospheric transport deposition and historical residue were the main sources of PCBs in water. According to the toxicity equivalent factor method, the ecological toxicity risk of the study area was evaluated, and the results showed that the TEQ in the water was far lower than the relevant standard limit, indicating that the pollution of PCBs in the surface water of Dongting Lake and the inflow rivers would not cause harm to exposed organisms.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To examine increases in average height among Chinese children and adolescents. METHODS: The data were obtained from the China Health and Nutrition Survey conducted during the period 1989-2015. A stratified multistage cluster sampling method was utilized to select participants aged 2-22 years in each province. Linear regression was used to examine the effects of age, birth cohort, and survey period on height. RESULTS: A total of 15,227 males and 13,737 females were included in the final analysis. Age (A) showed a continuous effect on height. The average heights of the investigated groups increased continuously during the investigation period. By 2015, the average height of the overall group increased by 7.87 cm compared to the average height during the 1989 survey. Moreover, birth year (cohort, C) also had a stable effect on height. Using the height of individuals born in or before 1975 as a reference, the average height of each birth cohort increased in comparison to the previous birth cohort. CONCLUSIONS: The height of Chinese children and adolescents was affected by age, period, and cohort effects, and this effect is governed by certain rules. The age-period-cohort model can be used to analyze the trends of children's and adolescent's heights. The findings provide a scientific basis for the formulation of children's and adolescents' growth and development policies in China.

RESUMO

For expensive constrained optimization problems (ECOPs), the computation of objective function and constraints is very time-consuming. This paper proposes a novel global and local surrogate-assisted differential evolution (DE) for solving ECOPs with inequality constraints. The proposed method consists of two main phases: 1) global surrogate-assisted phase and 2) local surrogate-assisted phase. In the global surrogate-assisted phase, DE serves as the search engine to produce multiple trial vectors. Afterward, the generalized regression neural network is used to evaluate these trial vectors. In order to select the best candidate from these trial vectors, two rules are combined. The first is the feasibility rule, which at first guides the population toward the feasible region, and then toward the optimal solution. In addition, the second rule puts more emphasis on the solution with the highest predicted uncertainty, and thus alleviates the inaccuracy of the surrogates. In the local surrogate-assisted phase, the interior point method coupled with radial basis function is utilized to refine each individual in the population. During the evolution, the global surrogate-assisted phase has the capability to promptly locate the promising region and the local surrogate-assisted phase is able to speed up the convergence. Therefore, by combining these two important elements, the number of fitness evaluations can be reduced remarkably. The proposed method has been tested on numerous benchmark test functions from three test suites and two real-world cases. The experimental results demonstrate that the performance of the proposed method is better than that of other state-of-the-art methods.

RESUMO

Schizotypy is associated with anhedonia. However, previous findings on the neural substrates of anhedonia in schizotypy are mixed. In the present study, we measured the neural substrates associated with reward anticipation and consummation in positive and negative schizotypy using functional MRI. The Monetary Incentive Delay task was administered to 33 individuals with schizotypy (18 positive schizotypy (PS),15 negative schizotypy (NS)) and 22 healthy controls. Comparison between schizotypy individuals and controls were performed using two-sample T tests for contrast images involving gain versus non-gain anticipation condition and gain versus non-gain consummation condition. Multiple comparisons were corrected using Monte Carlo Simulation correction of p<.05. The results showed no significant difference in brain activity between controls and schizotypy individuals as a whole during gain anticipation or consummation. However, during the consummatory phase, NS individuals rather than PS individuals showed diminished left amygdala and left putamen activity compared with controls. We observed significantly weaker activation at the left ventral striatum during gain anticipation in NS individuals compared with controls. PS individuals, however, exhibited enhanced right ventral lateral prefrontal activity. These findings suggest that different dimensions of schizotypy may be underlied by different neural dysfunctions in reward anticipation and consummation.

RESUMO

Environmental problems as well as their related ecosystem stress and human health risk in China have raised wide concerns along with the rapid economic development in recent years. Numerous studies with a sharp increase in publication number have addressed the ubiquitous of anthropogenic chemicals in various environmental compartments and human tissues. However, very few data were available to clarify the temporal trend and to give the retrospective analysis of chemical pollution in China. Environmental Specimen Bank (ESB) is a system for the systematic collection and long-term storage of specimens, which has been established since the 1970s in developed counties and recognized as a fundamental complement for environmental monitoring and scientific research. Currently, the value of ESB is becoming more broadly recognized globally, and China is still at the early stage. This article described the history and status and put forwarded the future key points of Chinese ESB development for illustrating the intensive environmental changes in China and the world.

RESUMO

Increasing the probability of obtaining protein crystals in crystallization screening is always an important goal for protein crystallography. In this paper, a new method called the cross-diffusion microbatch (CDM) method is presented, which aims to efficiently promote protein crystallization and increase the chance of obtaining protein crystals. In this method, a very simple crystallization plate was designed in which all crystallization droplets are in one sealed space, so that a variety of volatile components from one droplet can diffuse into any other droplet via vapour diffusion. Crystallization screening and reproducibility tests indicate that this method could be a potentially powerful technique in practical protein crystallization screening. It can help to obtain crystals with higher probability and at a lower cost, while using a simple and easy procedure.
