RESUMO
The Green Economy Initiative aims to achieve economic development while minimizing carbon emissions by implementing a low-carbon economy across all sectors. It is noteworthy that ships play a significant role in global commodity transportation, accounting for approximately 80-90 percent. However, this also leads to a surge in fossil fuel consumption and alarming pollution levels. The data utilized in this article spans from 2010 to 2022 and specifically focuses on the shipping industry, drawing from information collected in 20 different provinces of China. Multiple panel regression models were constructed to analyze the influence of fiscal policies on facilitating the transition toward a low-carbon economy. In addition, a vector autoregression model was employed to examine the interconnected dynamics between low-carbon transition and budgetary guidelines. The findings indicate that tax-based policies demonstrate an inverted U-shaped relationship with low-carbon transition, whereas transfer payment policies exhibit an N-shaped pattern. The shipping sector is actively embracing low-carbon practices, largely due to incorporating digital technologies that mitigate the adverse impacts of fiscal regulations.
RESUMO
The main objectives of neuromorphic engineering are the research, modeling, and implementation of neural functioning in the human brain. We provide a hardware solution that can replicate such a nature-inspired system by merging multiple scientific domains and is based on neural cell processes. This work provides a modified version of the original Fitz-Hugh Nagumo (FHN) neuron using a simple 2V term called Hybrid Piece-Wised Base-2 Model (HPWBM), which accurately reproduces numerous patterns of the original neuron model. With reduced terms, we suggest modifying the original nonlinear term to achieve high matching accuracy and little computing error. Time domain and phase portraits are used to validate the proposed model, which shows that it can reproduce all of the FHN model's properties with high accuracy and little mistake. We provide an effective digital hardware approach for large-scale neuron implementations based on resource-sharing and pipelining strategies. The Hardware Description Language (HDL) is used to construct the hardware on an FPGA as a proof of concept. The recommended model hardly uses 0.48 percent of the resources on a Virtex 4 FPGA board, according to the results of the hardware implementation. The circuit can run at a maximum frequency of 448.236 MHz, according to the static timing study.

The aim was to systematically evaluate the cost-effectiveness of pit and fissure sealants (PFSs) compared with that of fluoride varnishes (FVs) in dental caries prevention. We searched four electronic databases including the Cochrane Oral Health Group's Trials Register (till 03 June 2022), Web of Science (from 1945 to 03 June 2022), PubMed (from 1996 to 03 June 2022), and EMBASE via Ovid (from 1980 to 03 June 2022) to identify the cost and effectiveness of PFSs and FVs in decreasing dental caries incidence. Two researchers independently screened search results, extracted data from the included studies, and conducted the risk of bias assessments. The main characteristics of the included studies were extracted and analyzed. The initial search produced 874 articles. After removing duplicates and full-text review, 19 studies were included. In this study: nine studies were on PFSs comparison with control; five on PFSs comparison with FVs; and five on FVs comparison with control. Regarding the type of economic evaluation (EE), 13 studies conducted cost-effectiveness analysis, five conducted cost-utility analyses, and one conducted both cost-effectiveness analysis and cost-utility analyses. The cost-effectiveness evaluation of PFSs and FVs in the available studies was limited. The prevalence of dental caries, payers' willingness to pay, length of follow-ups, delivery settings, retention rate of PFS, and application intervals of FV can affect the economic evaluation of these two methods for dental caries prevention. Therefore, more studies in the future are need to draw clear conclusions about which method is more cost-effective for the two preventive interventions in future.

Intracranial aneurysms (IAs) are highly prevalent in the population, and their rupture poses a significant risk of death or disability. However, the treatment of aneurysms, whether through interventional embolization or craniotomy clipping surgery, is not always safe and carries a certain proportion of morbidity and mortality. Therefore, early detection and prompt intervention of IAs with a high risk of rupture is of notable clinical significance. Moreover, accurately predicting aneurysms that are likely to remain stable can help avoid the risks and costs of over-intervention, which also has considerable social significance. Recent advances in artificial intelligence (AI) technology offer promising strategies to assist clinical trials. This review will discuss the state-of-the-art AI applications for assessing the rupture risk of IAs, with a focus on achievements, challenges, and potential opportunities.
RESUMO
Loneliness has been associated with problematic alcohol use, but it is not known whether self-perceptions mediate this relationship. In this study, the general population in China (N = 1123) and Germany (N = 1018) was surveyed to assess whether self-esteem and self-efficacy mediate the effect of loneliness on problematic alcohol use in two culturally distinct environments. Multiple regression analysis demonstrated that higher AUDIT scores were negatively associated with self-esteem (b = -0.08, p < .001). Self-esteem mediated the effect of loneliness on AUDIT score (indirect effect: 0.06, CI: 0.03 - 0.10, p < .001), while self-efficacy did not (indirect effect: 0.02, CI: -0.003 - 0.05, p = .10). These findings suggest that self-esteem explains the relationship between loneliness and problematic alcohol use. As self-esteem may be more modifiable than external social factors, these results have positive practical implications for alcohol use disorder treatment strategies.
RESUMO
BACKGROUND: Understanding the temporal trends in the burden of overall and type-specific cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) in youths and young adults and its attributable risk factors is important for effective and targeted prevention strategies and measures. We aimed to provide a standardized and comprehensive estimation of the prevalence, incidence, disability-adjusted life years (DALY), and mortality rate of CVDs and its associated risk factors in youths and young adults aged 15-39 years at global, regional, and national levels. METHODS: We applied Global Burden of Disease, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD) 2019 analytical tools to calculate the age-standardized incidence, prevalence, DALY, and mortality rate of overall and type-specific CVDs (i.e., rheumatic heart disease, ischemic heart disease, stroke, hypertensive heart disease, non-rheumatic valvular heart disease, cardiomyopathy and myocarditis, atrial fibrillation and flutter, aortic aneurysm, and endocarditis) among youths and young adults aged 15-39 years by age, sex, region, sociodemographic index and across 204 countries/territories from 1990 to 2019, and proportional DALY of CVDs attributable to associated risk factors. RESULTS: The global age-standardized DALY (per 100,000 population) for CVDs in youths and young adults significantly decreased from 1257.51 (95% confidence interval 1257.03, 1257.99) in 1990 to 990.64 (990.28, 990.99) in 2019 with an average annual percent change (AAPC) of - 0.81% (- 1.04%, - 0.58%, P < 0.001), and the age-standardized mortality rate also significantly decreased from 19.83 (19.77, 19.89) to 15.12 (15.08, 15.16) with an AAPC of - 0.93% (- 1.21%, - 0.66%, P < 0.001). However, the global age-standardized incidence rate (per 100,000 population) moderately increased from 126.80 (126.65, 126.95) in 1990 to 129.85 (129.72, 129.98) in 2019 with an AAPC of 0.08% (0.00%, 0.16%, P = 0.040), and the age-standardized prevalence rate significantly increased from 1477.54 (1477.03, 1478.06) to 1645.32 (1644.86, 1645.78) with an AAPC of 0.38% (0.35%, 0.40%, P < 0.001). In terms of type-specific CVDs, the age-standardized incidence and prevalence rate in rheumatic heart disease, prevalence rate in ischemic heart disease, and incidence rate in endocarditis increased from 1990 to 2019 (all P < 0.001). When stratified by sociodemographic index (SDI), the countries/territories with low and low-middle SDI had a higher burden of CVDs than the countries/territories with high and high-middle SDI. Women had a higher prevalence rate of CVDs than men, whereas men had a higher DALY and mortality rate than women. High systolic blood pressure, high body mass index, and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol were the main attributable risk factors for DALY of CVDs for all included countries and territories. Household air pollution from solid fuels was an additional attributable risk factor for DALY of CVDs in low and low-middle SDI countries compared with middle, high-middle, and high SDI countries. Compared with women, DALY for CVDs in men was more likely to be affected by almost all risk factors, especially for smoking. CONCLUSIONS: There is a substantial global burden of CVDs in youths and young adults in 2019. The burden of overall and type-specific CVDs varied by age, sex, SDI, region, and country. CVDs in young people are largely preventable, which deserve more attention in the targeted implementation of effective primary prevention strategies and expansion of young-people's responsive healthcare systems.

Livestock-derived tetX-positive Escherichia coli with tigecycline resistance poses a serious risk to public health. Fitness costs, antibiotic residues, and other tetracycline resistance genes (TRGs) are fundamental in determining the spread of tetX in the environment, but there is a lack of relevant studies. The results of this study showed that both tetO and tetX resulted in reduction in growth and an increased in the metabolic burden of E. coli, but the presence of doxycycline reversed this phenomenon. Moreover, the protection of E. coli growth and metabolism by tetO was superior to that of tetX in the presence of doxycycline, resulting in a much lower competitiveness of tetX-carrying E. coli than tetO-carrying E. coli. The results of RNA-seq showed that the increase in outer membrane proteins (ompC, ompF and ompT) of tetX-carrying E. coli resulted in increased membrane permeability and biofilm formation, which is an important reason for fitness costs. Overall, the increased membrane permeability and metabolic burden of E. coli is the mechanistic basis for the high fitness cost of tetX, and the spread of tetO may limit the spread of tetX. This study provides new insights into the rational use of tetracycline antibiotics to control the spread of tetX.

PURPOSE: To investigate the differences of size and density measurements in assessing pure ground-glass nodules (pGGNs) growth, and compare the growth rates and growth proportions of the two methods during follow-up period. METHODS: Ninety patients with at least 3 consecutive thin-section chest CTs and confirmed 103 pGGNs on baseline CT were enrolled retrospectively. Using the two definitions of size and density to evaluate pGGNs growth with semi-automated segmentation. Then, the two methods were compared to assess differences in pGGNs growth. RESULTS: For the size and density methods to assess nodule growth, 50.5% and 26.2% showed interval growth at the last CT (p < 0.001). Among the 19 nodules that grew in both size and density, the volume doubling time (VDT) of solid component (mean, 317.1; standard deviation, 224.8 days) was shorter than total VDT (median, 942.8; range, 400.1-2315.9 days) (p < 0.001). Of the 27 growth pGGNs assessed by the density method, the growth rates at years 1 and 2 were 25.9% and 63.0%, while the growth rates of 52 growing nodules assessed by size method were 11.5% and 48.1%, respectively. Twenty of 103 (19.4%) nodules were classified into category 4A lesions, and 7 (6.8%) were 4B lesions. CONCLUSION: Compared to size measurements, observed density increases have a higher proportion of early growth and faster growth rates in growing nodules. Clinicians need to pay close attention to the nodules of new solid components and make timely decision management.

Outdoor thermal comfort (OTC) is critical for public health, labor productivity, and human life. Growing extreme heat events caused by climate change have a serious impact on OTCs, especially in urban areas. Quantitatively characterizing and evaluating the spatiotemporal changes in OTCs are essential, and more applications are needed in urban agglomerations. Therefore, taking the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei (BTH) urban agglomeration as the study area, this study aimed to quantitatively assess the summer regional OTC from 1981 to 2020. First, the Universal Thermal Climate Index (UTCI) was used as the indicator of daily thermal stress, and then a Composite Thermal Comfort Score was proposed to evaluate the long-term, summertime, regional OTC considering the extent, duration, and intensity of daytime and nighttime thermal stress. The results showed that (a) the increase in UTCI (0.32°C/10a at daytime and 0.21°C/10a at nighttime) and heat stress frequency (0.88 at daytime and 0.39 d/10a at nighttime) were manifested over BTH, indicating a worse OTC. Spatial and temporal heterogeneity was also demonstrated. (b) The general OTC showed a decreasing north-south gradient pattern. At daytime, the northern mountainous zone presented the best OTC, the southern plain zone, especially Hengshui, Langfang, and Cangzhou, showed the worst. At nighttime, the mountain-plain transition zone showed the best OTC, the northern mountainous zone showed the worst since more cold stress occurred. Our findings will be useful in informing climate change adaptation strategies to ensure urban resilience as extreme heat increases in the context of climate change.
RESUMO
Background: HIV services were inevitably disrupted and affected due to COVID-19. There are many challenges in implementing appropriate HIV services, particularly in the provision of health care and the link between people living with HIV/AIDS and retention in care. The study investigated the impact of COVID-19 on HIV services and the anticipated benefit of the COVID-19 vaccination on HIV service restoration in North Shewa, Oromia, Ethiopia. Methods: A qualitative descriptive study approach was used to explore how healthcare delivery evolved during the outbreak of COVID-19 in Ethiopia. Sixteen antiretroviral therapy (ART) clinics were selected from 13 districts and one administrative town in Ethiopia. From them, 32 ART providers were purposively selected based on their experience in ART provision. Data were collected from June to July 2021 using in-depth interviews. A thematic analysis approach was used to analyze the data, based on themes and subthemes emerging from the data. ATLAS.ti software was used for coding. Results: Healthcare for people living with HIV was interrupted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Medical appointments, HIV testing and counseling services, opportunistic infection treatment, medicine supply, and routine viral load and CD4 T-cell count tests were interrupted. Due to a shortage of healthcare staff, outreach testing services and home index testing were discontinued and HIV testing was limited only to hospitals and health centers. This has substantially affected accessibility to HIV testing and reduced the quality of HIV service delivery. Telehealth and less frequent visits to health facilities were used as alternative ways of delivering HIV services. The COVID-19 vaccination campaign is expected to restore healthcare services. Vaccination may also increase the confidence of healthcare providers by changing their attitudes toward COVID-19. Conclusions: The COVID-19 pandemic has substantially impacted HIV services and reduced the quality of HIV care in Ethiopia. Health facilities could not provide routine HIV services as they prioritize the fight against COVID-19, leading to an increase in service discontinuation and poor adherence.

BACKGROUND: The durability of immune responses to COVID-19 vaccines among older people living with HIV (PWH) is clinically important. METHODS: We aimed to assess vaccine-induced humoral immunity and durability in older PWH (≥ 55 years, n = 26) over 6 months (post-initial BNT162b2 series). A secondary and exploratory objective was to assess T-cell response and BNT162b2 booster reactogenicity, respectively. Our Visit 1 (3 weeks post-initial BNT162b2 dose) SARS-CoV-2 humoral immunity results are previously reported; these subjects were recruited for Visit 2 [2 weeks (+ 1 week window) post-second vaccination] and Visit 3 [6 months (± 2 week window) post-initial vaccination] in a single-center longitudinal observational study. Twelve participants had paired Visit 2/3 SARS-CoV-2 Anti-Spike IgG data. At Visit 3, SARS-CoV-2 Anti-Spike IgG testing occurred, and 5 subjects underwent T-cell immune response evaluation. Thereafter, subjects were offered BNT162b2 booster (concurrent day outside our study) per US FDA/CDC guidance; reactogenicity was assessed. The primary study outcome was presence of detectable Visit 3 SARS-CoV-2 Anti-Spike-1-RBD IgG levels. Secondary and exploratory outcomes were T-cell immune response and BNT162b2 booster reactogenicity, respectively. Wilcoxon signed-rank tests analyzed median SARS-CoV-2 Anti-Spike IgG 6-month trends. RESULTS: At Visit 3, 26 subjects underwent primary analysis with demographics noted: Median age 61 years; male n = 16 (62%), female n = 10 (38%); Black n = 13 (50%), White n = 13 (50%). Most subjects (n = 20, 77%) had suppressed HIV viremia on antiretroviral therapy, majority (n = 24, 92%) with CD4 > 200 cells/µL. At Visit 3, 26/26 (100%) had detectable Anti-Spike-1-RBD (≥ 0.8 U/mL). Among 12 subjects presenting to Visit 2/3, median SARS-CoV-2 Anti-Spike 1-RBD was 2087 U/mL at Visit 2, falling to 581.5 U/mL at Visit 3 (p = 0.0923), with a median 3.305-fold decrease over 6 months. Among subjects (n = 5) with 6-month T-cell responses measured, all had detectable cytokine-secreting anti-spike CD4 responses; 3 had detectable CD4 + Activation induced marker (AIM) + cells. Two had detectable cytokine-secreting CD8 responses, but all had positive CD8 + AIM + cells. CONCLUSIONS: Among older PWH, SARS-CoV-2 Anti-Spike IgG and virus-specific T-cell responses are present 6 months post-primary BNT162b2 vaccination, and although waning, suggest retention of some degree of long-term protective immunity.

Cervical and endometrial cancers are common gynecologic cancers. Protein phosphatase 1 regulatory subunit 14B (PPP1R14B) is aberrantly expressed in several tumors, while its functions in cervical and endometrial cancers remain largely uncertain. The differentially expression of PPP1R14B in cervical and endometrial cancers was predicted by GEPIA2 and Human Protein Atlas databases. The diagnostic value was analyzed by AUC curve. The association between PPP1R14B expression and overall survival was predicted using Kaplan-Meier Plotter database. The function of PPP1R14B was investigated according to in vitro assessment. PPP1R14B and phosphorylation level of Akt were analyzed through western blotting. Cell proliferation was investigated by CCK-8 and EdU staining assays. Cell apoptosis was evaluated via TUNEL staining and caspase-3 activity assays. PPP1R14B level was upregulated in cervical and endometrial cancers, and it was associated with diagnosis and worse prognosis. PPP1R14B silencing constrained cell proliferation and promoted cell death in cervical and endometrial cancers cells. PPP1R14B knockdown suppressed activation of the Akt pathway. Re-activation of the Akt signaling reversed the anti-proliferative and cell death-promoting roles of PP1R14B knockdown in cervical and endometrial cancers cells. In conclusion, PPP1R14B knockdown represses cell proliferation and facilitates cell death by inhibiting the activation of the Akt signaling in cervical and endometrial cancers.

Nitrous acid (HONO) can significantly contribute to hydroxyl radicals (OH) and thus regulate atmospheric oxidation chemistry; however, ambient HONO sources are not well quantified and vary in different environments. In this study, we conducted comprehensive field observations at a coastal site in the South China Sea and performed chemical box modelling to demonstrate contrasting budgets and impacts of diurnal atmospheric HONO derived from the sea, coastline and continent. The ship emission ratio of HONO/nitrogen oxides (NOx) (1.21 ± 0.99%) was calculated from hundreds of night-time fresh plume measurements. Offshore marine air was frequently influenced by ship exhausts, and the sea acted as an HONO sink. Heterogeneous conversions of nitrogen dioxide (NO2) on underlying surfaces and photolysis of adsorbed nitric acid (HNO3(ads)) were the major HONO sources in coastal air, when heterogeneous NO2 conversions on the ground surface and the homogeneous NO + OH reaction dominated HONO formation in continental air. HONO photolysis was a significant source of reactive radicals (ROx = OH + HO2 + RO2) in these air masses. Atmospheric box model including only homogeneous HONO source of the NO + OH reactions significantly underpredicted the OH concentration and atmospheric oxidising capacity in coastal and continental air. This study provides new insights into the complex sources and significant impacts of HONO in the polluted coastal boundary layer.

The purpose is to strengthen Human Resources Management (HRM) through information management using Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology. First, the selection criteria of the applicant's resume during recruitment and the formulation standards of the contract salary are analyzed. Then, the resume information is extracted and converted into the data-type format. Besides, the salary forecast model in the HRM system (HRMS) is designed based on the Back Propagation Neural Network (BPNN), and network structure, parameter initialization, and activation function of the BPNN are selected and optimized. The experimental results demonstrate that the algorithm optimized by the Nadm has shown improved convergence speed and forecast effect, with 187 iterations. Moreover, compared with other regression algorithms, the designed algorithm achieves the best test scores. The above results can provide references for designing the AI-based HRMS.

RESUMO
Importance: Assisted reproductive technology (ART) has been widely used for treatment of infertility and has brought millions of births worldwide. The health of offspring conceived by ART has been of much concern, and adverse cardiovascular health outcomes have been reported by previous studies. Objective: To assess the cardiovascular health of children conceived by ART. Design, Setting, and Participants: This cohort study was conducted among participants recruited from November 2017 to February 2019. Participants were 382 children conceived by ART who were selected from a single reproductive center and 382 children who were naturally conceived, randomly selected from a primary school, and matched by sex, age, and maternal age at the child's birth (2 years older or younger). Data were analyzed from March 2019 through December 2019. Exposures: Conception by ART. Main Outcomes and Measures: Blood pressure was measured, and echocardiography was performed to determine left ventricular structural and functional parameters. Adjusted relative wall thickness (aRWT) was found for age, with high RWT defined as an aRWT of 0.375 or more. Results: Among 764 children aged 6 to 10 years, 382 children were conceived by ART (mean [SD] age, 7.20 [1.21] years; 201 [52.6%] boys) and 382 children were naturally conceived (mean [SD] age, 7.20 [1.21] years; 201 [52.6%] boys). Children conceived by ART had statistically significantly increased mean (SD) height (130.2 [9.5] cm vs 128.5 [8.1] cm; P = .007) and body mass index (17.6 [3.6] vs 17.1 [2.7]; P = .03). Those conceived by ART, compared with children in the matched control group, had statistically significantly increased blood pressure (mean [SD] systolic blood pressure, 105.5 [6.9] mm Hg vs 103.5 [8.4] mm Hg; adjusted P < .001; mean [SD] diastolic blood pressure, 67.2 [5.6] mm Hg vs 62.2 [6.3] mm Hg ; adjusted P < .001), left ventricular systolic dysfunction (mean [SD] left ventricular ejection fraction, 64.61% [3.20%] vs 66.70% [3.89%]; adjusted P < .001), and diastolic dysfunction (mean [SD] early/late mitral/tricuspid diastolic velocities ratio, 1.66 [0.28] vs 2.21 [0.36]; adjusted P < .001). They also had statistically significantly increased parameters of left ventricular structure, including mean (SD) left ventricular mass index (31.97 [5.04] g/m2.7 vs 28.28 [3.54] g/m2.7; adjusted P < .001) and RWT (3.30 [0.41] mm vs 2.98 [0.14] mm; adjusted P < .001). Additionally, children conceived by ART had statistically significantly increased prevalence of left ventricular hypertrophy (9 children [2.4%] vs 2 children [0.5%]; P = .03), high RWT (61 children [16.0%] vs 0 children; P < .001), and left ventricle remodeling patterns, including concentric remodeling (60 children [15.7%] vs 0 children), eccentric hypertrophy (8 children [2.1%] vs 2 children [0.5%]), and concentric hypertrophy (1 child [0.3%] vs 0 children) (P for left ventricle remodeling < .001). Conclusions and Relevance: This study found that children conceived by ART had increased blood pressure and unfavorable changes in left ventricular structure and function compared with children who were naturally conceived. These findings suggest that further studies are needed to investigate the potential mechanisms and long-term outcomes associated with these differences.

BACKGROUND: During the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, Fangcang shelter hospitals were opened in Wuhan, China, to isolate and care for patients with mild or moderate symptoms. The patients and staff in the hospitals faced mental health challenges. This paper reports the experiences and mental health needs from them. METHOD: Following the qualitative design, semi-structured interviews were conducted in the EastWest Lake Fangcang Shelter Hospital, Wuhan on March 2020. Data collection and analysis was based on grounded theory. Open coding was adapted and a structured codebook was developed through coding seminars. The themes and subthemes were then confirmed through thematic analysis. The findings were further explained and integrated in a theoretical framework. RESULTS: A total of 10 COVID-19 patients and 13 staff, including doctors, nurses, psychiatrists, and policemen participated in the interviews. They have common needs, as well as their own needs. The perspectives from the staff also did complement for needs of the patients. The mental health needs were generalized into four themes, that is, basic needs, information and communication, emotional needs, and social support, each with several subthemes. In addition, there were some external factors that regulated the internal needs, which were summarized in a theoretical framework. CONCLUSIONS: The study indicates the directions on hospital management, mental health services, policy making, and social work to meet the mental health needs of the inpatients and staff from temporary shelter hospitals like Fangcang in Wuhan during the COVID-19 pandemic.
RESUMO
OBJECTIVES: To determine the incidence and intensity of household impoverishment induced by cancer treatment in China. DESIGN: Average income and daily consumption per capita of the households and out-of-pocket payments for cancer care were estimated. Household impoverishment was determined by comparing per capita daily consumption against the Chinese poverty line (CPL, US$1.2) and the World Bank poverty line (WBPL, US$1.9) for 2015. Both pre-treatment and post-treatment consumptions were calculated assuming that the households would divert daily consumption money to pay for cancer treatment. PARTICIPANTS: Cancer patients diagnosed initially from 1 January 2015 to 31 December 2016 who had received cancer treatment subsequently. Those with multiple cancer diagnoses were excluded. DATA SOURCES: A household questionnaire survey was conducted on 2534 cancer patients selected from nine hospitals in seven provinces through two-stage cluster/convenience sampling. FINDINGS: 5.89% (CPL) to 12.94% (WBPL) households were impoverished after paying for cancer treatment. The adjusted OR (AOR) of post-treatment impoverishment was higher for older patients (AOR=2.666-4.187 for ≥50 years vs <50 years, p<0.001), those resided in central region (AOR=2.619 vs eastern, p<0.01) and those with lower income (AOR=0.024-0.187 in higher income households vs the lowest 20%, p<0.001). The patients without coverage from social health insurance had higher OR (AOR=1.880, p=0.040) of experiencing post-treatment household impoverishment than those enrolled with the insurance for urban employees. Cancer treatment is associated with an increase of 5.79% (CPL) and 12.45% (WBPL) in incidence of household impoverishment. The median annual consumption gap per capita underneath the poverty line accumulated by the impoverished households reached US$128 (CPL) or US$212 (WBPL). US$31 170 395 (CPL) or US$115 238 459 (WBPL) were needed to avoid household impoverishment induced by cancer treatment in China. CONCLUSIONS: The financial burden of cancer treatment imposes a significant risk of household impoverishment despite wide coverage of social health insurance in China.
