RESUMO

Solar vapor generation technology is promising in seawater desalination, sewage purification, and other fields. However, wide application of this technology is still largely confined due to its high cost and difficulties for scalable production. In this study, an ever-floating solar evaporator is fabricated by coating multiwall carbon nanotubes on a bicomponent nonwoven composed of polypropylene/polyethylene core-sheath fibers. This all-fiber structure is highly porous and ultralight, with large specific area (for efficient water evaporation), interconnected channels (for easy vapor escape), and low thermal conductivity (to avoid heat loss). The unique unidirectional water-transfer behavior of the nonwoven enables it to spontaneously pump an adjustable amount of water for interfacial solar heating and a delicate balance between water supply and loss may accelerate the evaporation speed of water. These distinct benefits endow the solar evaporator with excellent evaporation rates of 1.44 kg m-2  h-1 under the simulated irradiation of 1 sun and 12.81 kg m-2  d-1 under natural sunlight. Moreover, the evaporator can be fabricated by using low-cost materials and industrialized methods (overall cost ≈2.4 USD m-2 ), making one believe its practical significance for commercial solar steam evaporation.

RESUMO

China's economy in the past 10 years has developed rapidly and achieved great success, but at the same time, environmental problems have been deteriorating, seriously hindering the country's regional sustainable development. This paper proposes a common-weights DEA model based on "the priority of choosing common weights" to assess the environmental performance of 30 provinces from 2006 to 2015 and analyzes regional development in combination with China's economic division. This paper also introduces the biennial Malmquist Productivity Index (BMPI) to study environmental productivity levels during the 11th and 12th Five Year Plans (FYP) from a time series perspective. The results present a large gap in regional environmental efficiency, mainly manifested by the fact that the eastern and northeastern regions' environmental condition is obviously better than that of the central and western regions. BMPI analysis indicates that the overall environmental performances during the 11th and 12th FYPs did not improve significantly, with a clear imbalance in the western region, implying that its development potential is huge. On this basis, we offer some suggestions for improving the environmental performance of different regions.

RESUMO

The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of a silicate-based composite material on proliferation and mineralization of human dental pulp cells (hDPCs), which was compared with those of calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2, CH) and tricalcium silicate (Ca3SiO5, C3S). HDPCs were cultured with CH, C3S and tricalcium silicate/dicalcium silicate (Ca3SiO5/Ca2SiO4, C3S/C2S) composites extract. The CCK-8 assay showed that the composite material stimulated the proliferation of hDPCs. The odontogenic marker genes and DSPP protein expression were more significantly up-regulated by the C3S/C2S composite material compared with pure CH and C3S. HDPCs cultured with composite material extract exert stronger ALP activity and alizarin red S staining. C3S/C2S composite material was advantageous over pure C3S by showing enhanced ability to stimulate the proliferation and odontogenic differentiation of hDPCs, suggesting that the C3S/C2S composite materials possess desirable biocompatibility and bioactivity, and might be a new type of pulp-capping agent and dentin alternative materials.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: To appraise the quality of Chinese clinical trials during recent 10 years about the treatment of permanent anterior dental trauma with evidence-based quality control methods. METHODS: The CNKI (Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure) and Wanfang electronic database with key words "permanent anterior dental trauma " were searched. Two hundred and forty-five papers were obtained during recent 10 years, 46 key papers about the treatment of permanent anterior dental trauma were retrieved. The quality of the Chinese clinical trials according to the consolidated standards of reporting trials (CONSORT) and strengthening the reporting of observational studies in epidemiology (STROBE) statement were assessed. RESULTS: Within the 46 key papers, there were 8 randomized controlled clinical trials, while the other 38 papers were observational studies. It was hard to evaluate precisely due to the lack of scientific information. The randomized controlled trials lacked details for randomization, allocation concealment and blinding compromised the quality. CONCLUSIONS: For the clinical studies about the effects of stabilization of permanent anterior dental trauma, the study quality needs to be improved, and progress should be made both in the clinical study design and the paper writing. RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Oral cancer develops through multi-stages: from normal to mild (low grade) dysplasia (LGD), moderate dysplasia, and severe (high grade) dysplasia (HGD), to carcinoma in situ (CIS) and finally invasive oral squamous cell carcinomas (OSCC). Clinical and histological assessments are not reliable in predicting which precursor lesions will progress. The aim of this study was to assess the potential of a noninvasive approach to assess progress risk of oral precancerous lesions. METHODS: We first used microRNA microarray to profile progressing LGD oral premaligant lesions (OPLs) from non-progressing LGD OPLs in order to explore the possible microRNAs deregulated in low grade OPLs which later progressed to HGD or OSCC. We then used RT-qPCR to detect miRNA targets from the microarray results in saliva samples of these patients. RESULTS: We identified a specific miRNA signature that is aberrantly expressed in progressing oral LGD leukoplakias. Similar expression patterns were detected in saliva samples from these patients. CONCLUSIONS: These results show promise for using saliva miRNA signature for monitoring of cancer precursor lesions and early detection of disease progression.
