RESUMO

Asian, Pacific Islander, African, and Caribbean communities in the U.S. are heavily impacted by chronic hepatitis B (HBV) and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Educating these groups about the link between the two diseases is imperative to improve screening rates and health outcomes. This study aims to identify and incorporate preferred mediated communication methods into community-specific educational campaigns which emphasize the connection between the conditions, to promote uptake of prevention and management behaviors for HBV and HCC. Fifteen focus groups and two key informant interviews were conducted with Micronesian, Chinese, Hmong, Nigerian, Ghanaian, Vietnamese, Korean, Somali, Ethiopian, Filipino, Haitian, and Francophone West African communities. Data were analyzed using thematic coding and analysis. Findings demonstrate that all communities preferred materials be offered in both English and native languages and requested that materials highlight the connection between HBV and HCC. Delivery channel preferences and messaging themes varied by group. This study provides insight into community-specific preferences for learning about HBV and HCC. The findings can be used to design culturally and linguistically tailored, multi-platform, health education campaigns to facilitate improved HBV screening and vaccination rates and increase knowledge about HCC risk among highly impacted communities in the U.S.

Chikungunya, arbovirose que provoca febre e artralgia debilitante, demonstra potencial crônico e incapacitante por longos períodos, não havendo vacinas ou terapias específicas. Recentemente, a doença evoluiu da condição negligenciada para uma ameaça à saúde pública, impactando milhões de pessoas em regiões tropicais e subtropicais. Este estudo analisa a produção do conhecimento sobre a Chikungunya, na perspectiva da Vigilância em Saúde. Trata-se de metodologia exploratória-descritiva, com análise bibliométrica. Realizou-se a coleta nas bases Scopus e Web of Science para artigos de 2008 a 2022. A análise revelou uma série temporal de produção destacando a contribuição de Estados Unidos, Brasil e França. Identificaram-se como áreas mais produtivas: doenças transmissíveis, medicina tropical e parasitologia, fundamentais à Vigilância em Saúde e ao planejamento de políticas públicas. Quanto aos pesquisadores, Weaver, Scott C., Failloux, Anna-Bella e De Lamballerie, Xavier foram relevantes no cenário global, indicando a importância da colaboração e da abordagem interdisciplinar.


Chikungunya, an arbovirus that causes fever and debilitating arthralgia, has potential to be chronic and incapacitating for long periods, and there are no vaccines or therapies available for it. Recently, the disease has evolved from a neglected condition to public health threat, impacting millions in tropical and subtropical regions. This study analyzed the knowledge production about chikungunya, from the perspective of Health Surveillance, using an exploratory-descriptive methodology and bibliometric analysis. Articles from 2008 to 2022 were collected from Scopus and Web of Science databases. The analysis showed a production time series, highlighting the contribution of United States, Brazil, and France. The most productive areas were identified as: communicable diseases, tropical medicine and parasitology, which are fundamental to Health Surveillance and public policy planning. Regarding researchers, Weaver, Scott C., Failloux, Anna-Bella, and De Lamballerie, Xavier were relevant in the global scenario, indicating the importance of collaboration and of the interdisciplinary approach.

Recientemente, la enfermedad ha pasado de afección desatendida a amenaza para la salud pública, afectando a millones en regiones tropicales y subtropicales. Este estudio analiza la producción de conocimientos sobre chikungunya, desde la perspectiva de la Vigilancia Sanitaria. Se utilizó una metodología exploratoria-descriptiva con análisis bibliométrico. Se recompilaron artículos de Scopus y Web of Science, 2008-2022. El análisis reveló una serie temporal de producción, destacando la contribución de EEUU, Brasil y Francia. Se identificaron como áreas más productivas: enfermedades transmisibles, medicina tropical y parasitología, fundamentales para la Vigilancia Sanitaria y la planificación de políticas públicas. En cuanto a los investigadores, Weaver, Scott C., Failloux, Anna-Bella y De Lamballeire, Xavier fueron relevantes en el escenario global, indicando la importancia de la colaboración y del enfoque interdisciplinario.

O assentimento infantil é uma exigência ética em pesquisas com crianças, porém sua comunicação eficaz tem sido um desafio. Neste relato, descrevemos a construção teórica e metodológica de um termo de assentimento infantil em formato de história em quadrinhos. A experiência foi realizada em uma escola municipal de Teresina, Piauí, com 32 crianças entre oito e dez anos. As etapas consistiram no estudo das questões éticas envolvidas, na construção da arte sequencial, na observação participante, em ajustes na história em quadrinhos e na aplicação e assinatura do termo de assentimento. A experiência resultou em um termo com legibilidade de Flesch de 91,81 sobre as questões éticas na pesquisa com crianças. O assentimento infantil em formato de história em quadrinhos apresentou linguagem acessível, lúdica e legibilidade adequada para comunicar pesquisa com crianças.


Child assent is an ethical requirement in research with children, however effective communication has been a challenge. In this report we describe the theoretical and methodological construction of a child assent term in comic book format. The experience was carried out in a municipal school of Teresina-Piaui with 32 children between eight and ten years old. The steps consisted of the study of ethical issues, the construction of sequential art, in participant observation, in adjustments to the comic strip and in the application and signature of the assent term. The experience resulted in a term with Flesch readability of 91.81 on ethical issues in research with kids. The childish nod in comic book format presented accessible, playful language and adequate legibility to communicate research with children.


El asentimiento infantil es una exigencia ética en investigaciones con niños. Sin embargo, la comunicación eficaz ha sido un desafío. En este relato describimos la construcción teórica y metodológica de un término de asentimiento infantil en formato de cómics. La experiencia ha sido realizada en una escuela municipal de Teresina, Piauí, con 32 niños entre ocho y diez años. Las etapas consistieron en el estudio de las cuestiones éticas, en la construcción del arte secuencial, en la observación participante, en ajustes en los cómics y en la aplicación y firma del término de asentimiento. La experiencia resultó en un término con legibilidad de Flesch de 91,81 sobre las cuestiones éticas en la investigación con niños. El asentimiento infantil en formato de cómics presentó lenguaje accesible, lúdica y legibilidad adecuada para comunicar investigación con niños.

Consumers with low socioeconomic status (SES) eat less healthy and sustainable diets than consumers with higher status. This is attributed, at least in part, to inequalities in health communication. An online survey with 134 socioeconomically disadvantaged consumers in Italy was conducted to test the effectiveness of tailor-made communication material (infographics) about healthy and sustainable eating (HSE). Participants were recruited at two social supermarkets by a social service organisation as well as via a crowdsourcing platform. Participants found information about HSE delivered through infographics moderately effective in increasing motivation, capability, and opportunity for HSE, and moderately useful and likely to impact their behaviour. Certain messages were more effective than others for native consumers, while migrants showed more indifferent responses to the various messages and manifested lower motivation to shift towards HSE, limited access to and seeking of nutrition-related information, and lower trust in information sources. Selecting which messages to deliver strategically, while also considering differences between segments of the target audience and their preferred sources and channels for communication, is promising; yet, structural changes related to food's affordability and availability are also needed to facilitate an effective communication.

AIM: To explore the role of health communication in Shared Decision-Making (SDM) between nursing staff and older people in the community setting. BACKGROUND: Society and healthcare services are marked by an exponentially ageing population, leading to a significant proportion of patients being older adults with highly demanding care needs. Scientific literature supports shared decision-making as a process that engages patients in their care. However, the increasing use of technology and the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic have influenced how nurses communicate with older patients. Therefore, it is crucial to understand how to develop health communication to reach effective, shared decision-making processes. METHODS: Whittemore and Knafl's integrative review method, the literature search comprised five databases: PubMed, CINALH, Web of Science, Scopus and PsycINFO. RESULTS: The 12 included studies were synthesised into three study patterns: (1) nurse-older patient health communication relationship, (2) older patients' perspectives and (3) nontherapeutic communication in end-of-life care. CONCLUSION: This review underscored the crucial role of effective health communication in shaping SDM dynamics between nursing staff and older people in the community setting. Key elements included transparent information exchange, establishing trust and maintaining communication channels with informal caregiving networks. SDM actions were aligned with preserving older people's autonomy, but communication challenges persisted, particularly in end-of-life situations. Advanced care planning was recommended to address these shortcomings and improve communication among older people, healthcare professionals and families. IMPLICATIONS: Implementing educational measures based on verbal and nonverbal health communication in nursing training could be beneficial. Nursing research could continue to develop and refine specific communication strategies adapted to the social determinants of health for diverse clinical situations regarding older adults in the community setting. Public health communication campaign planners must carefully consider whether misinformation beliefs are important to target and, ideally, correct. Guided by the reasoned action approach, we hypothesized that behavior-specific beliefs regarding COVID-19 vaccination would account for any observed relationship between general coronavirus misinformation beliefs (misinformation beliefs that are not specific to the anticipated consequences of COVID-19 vaccination) and subsequent vaccine uptake. To test our hypothesis, we used panel data from a two-wave nationally representative sample of U.S. adults pre- and post-vaccine availability (T1: July 2020, T2: April/June 2021, analytic sample: n = 665). Contrary to our hypothesis, we find a residual observed relationship between general coronavirus misinformation beliefs and subsequent vaccine uptake (AOR = 0.40, SE = 0.10). Intriguingly, our post-hoc analyses do show that after also adjusting for T2 behavioral beliefs, this association was no longer significant. With this and other justifications, we recommend that messages promoting vaccination prioritize targeting relevant behavioral beliefs.

Background: Community engagement is key in health communication interventions that seek to incorporate community voices in their planning and implementation. Understanding what approaches and strategies are currently being used can help tailor programs in different social and cultural contexts. This review explores needs-based and strengths-based approaches and consensus and conflict strategies in community-based global health communications programs. Our objective is to examine the current state of the field, outline lessons learned, and identify gaps in existing programming to help guide future interventions. Methods: PubMed and Web of Science were searched for articles published between 2010 and 2023. Studies were included if they described a community-based health communication intervention and an ongoing or completed implementation. Interventions were coded then categorized according to their level of community engagement and as single, hybrid, or complex, depending upon the number of approaches and strategies used. Results: The search yielded 678 results and 42 were included in the final review and analysis. A vast majority 34 (81.0%) interventions utilized a needs-based approach and 24 (57.1%) utilized a strengths-based approach. Consensus as a strategy was utilized in 38 (90.5%) of the manuscripts and 9 (21.4%) implemented a conflict strategy. Interventions that combined approaches and strategies were more likely to leverage a higher level of community engagement. Conclusion: These results showcase the complicated nature of global health communication program planning and implementation. There is a lack of interventions that use conflict as a strategy to empower communities to act on their own behalf, even when at odds with existing power structures. Complex interventions that include all approaches and strategies demonstrate the potential for global health communication interventions to be at the cutting edge of public health practice.

O presente estudo parte de reflexões acerca da sobrevivência ao câncer e da experiência estigmatizante vivenciada por pessoas diagnosticadas com câncer de laringe no Hospital Nacional do Câncer/Instituto Nacional do Câncer, submetidas à cirurgia de Laringectomia Total e participantes do Grupo de Laringec-tomizados Totais. O objetivo foi compreender as mediações de saberes e de informações produzidas pelos participantes do grupo na interface com os profissionais de saúde, considerando a sua dupla condição de estigma: o câncer e a deficiência. Parte-se de uma abordagem socioantropológica de caráter qualitativo e ex-ploratório que empregou os métodos de entrevista narrativa com cinco participantes. A análise foi realizada pelo método hermenêutico-dialético. Nos resultados destacam-se a busca pelo reconhecimento individual e social e a valorização da experiência frente aos saberes oficiais e o quanto as mediações extrapolam o espaço institucional. A mediação de saberes faz emergirem elementos significativos para o enfrentamento de uma cultura informacional dominante.


This study is based on reflections on surviving cancer and the stigmatizing experience of people diagnosed with laryngeal cancer at the Hospital Nacional do Câncer/Instituto Nacional do Câncer, who underwent Total Laryngectomy surgery and participated in the Total Laryngectomy Group. The goal was to understand the mediations of knowledge and information produced by the group participants, in the interface with health professionals, considering their double condition of stigma: cancer and disability. It is based on a socio-anthropological approach, of qualitative and exploratory nature that employed the narrative interview method with five participants. The analysis was carried out through the hermeneutic-dialectic method. The results highlight the search for individual and social recognition and the appreciation of experience in relation to official knowledge, and how the mediations go beyond the institutional space. The mediation of knowledge brings out significant elements to confront a dominant informational culture.


El presente estudio se basa en las reflexiones sobre la supervivencia al cáncer y la experiencia estigmatiza-dora de personas diagnosticadas de cáncer de laringe en el Hospital Nacional do Câncer/Instituto Nacional do Câncer, que se sometieron a una Laringectomía Total y participaron en el Grupo de Laringectomía Total. Objetivo: comprender las mediaciones de conocimiento e información producidas por los participantes del grupo, en la interfaz con los profesionales de salud, considerando su doble estigma: cáncer y discapacidad. Se basa en un abordaje socioantropológico, cualitativo y exploratorio, que utilizó métodos de entrevista narrativa con cinco participantes. El análisis ocurrió a través del método hermenéutico-dialéctico. Los resultados destacan la búsqueda de reconocimiento individual y social y la valorización de la experiencia en relación con el conocimiento oficial y la medida en que las mediaciones van más allá del espacio insti-tucional. La mediación del conocimiento pone de manifiesto elementos significativos sobre una cultura informacional dominante.

People assigned female at birth (AFAB) with minoritized racial/ethnic, sexual orientation, and gender identities experience notable barriers to high-quality sexual healthcare. In confronting these barriers, patient-provider communication can be a crucial factor, influencing patients' experiences and access to relevant sexual health information and services by determining the quality of care. However, research that investigates this communication among AFAB patients with minoritized social positions is scarce, indicating a research gap regarding the perspectives and roles of healthcare providers in addressing such barriers to care for minoritized patients. Thus, we conducted a qualitative research study, using individual in-depth interviews, to explore the multi-level factors that influence providers' attitudes, knowledge, and skills regarding sexual health communication with AFAB patients with minoritized racial/ethnic, sexual orientation, and gender identities. Interpreting study findings within frameworks of person-centered care, intersectionality, and structural competency, we identified three cross-cutting themes. We found that providers frequently drew on their prior professional training, personal lived experiences, and population-level health disparities data when engaging in sexual health communication with minoritized AFAB patients. Participants reported minimal explicit training in anti-racist and lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+)-competent care as a significant barrier to engaging in equitable sexual health communication with minoritized AFAB patients, which was exacerbated by many providers' lack of shared social positions and lived experiences with these patients. Providers also frequently applied population-level data to individual patients when formulating counseling and recommendations, which may undermine person-centered sexual health communication. Our findings suggest that critical anti-racist and LGBTQ+-competent provider training is urgently needed, and that health professional education and institutions must be transformed to better reflect and consider the experiences of patients with minoritized racial/ethnic, sexual orientation, and gender identities.

BACKGROUND: Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP) are key contributors to maternal morbidity, mortality, and future risk of cardiovascular disease. This exploratory study aimed to unearth the health-related needs of women with a reported history of HDP by inquiring about preferences for care. METHOD: Deductive, qualitative analysis was conducted of HDP survivors' retrospective 'wishes' about the care received. RESULTS: In analyzing 244 open-ended, online survey responses, we identified a taxonomy of health-related needs arising across the trajectory of HDP: clinical information, needs requiring clinical knowledge, such as information about the etiology or prognosis of HDP; medical, needs associated with HDP intervention and management; logistical, needs regarding practical information, such as how to contact a provider or obtain the correct medical device; emotional, needs involving a desire for support or validation; and communication, needs for improved explanations and recognition of HDP. CONCLUSIONS: A taxonomy of diverse health-related needs may assist clinicians in approaching HDP patients more holistically. Additionally, opportunities exist for health communication research to inform standard approaches to HDP-related communication flowing from provider to patient.

INTRODUCTION: To reduce tobacco-related health problems, it is critical to reach people who smoke with smoking cessation information and treatment. However, digital communication inequalities may limit access to online information sources. METHODS: Digital device ownership, high-speed internet access, and online health information-seeking were examined among adults reporting current smoking in the Health Information National Trends Survey (n=847). Data were collected in 2019 and 2020 and analyzed in 2022. Multivariable logistic regression models examined associations between demographics, digital technology access, and online health information-seeking. RESULTS: Only 47.6% (95% CI 39.0%, 56.3%) of adults aged 65+, 54.2% of Black/African American adults (95% CI 37.8%, 69.8%), and 59.6% with high school or less education (95% CI 51.5%, 67.1%) reported high-speed internet access (vs. 74.0% overall, 95% CI 68.9%, 78.6%). Inequalities in device ownership, high-speed internet access, and online health information-seeking were found by education and income. Adults with high school or less education (vs. college or more) had 78% lower odds of digital device ownership (aOR 0.22, 95% CI 0.08, 0.59) and 75% lower odds of high-speed internet access (aOR 0.25, 95% CI 0.09, 0.71). High-speed internet access (vs. no digital device or high-speed internet) was associated with 4.9 times greater odds of online health information-seeking (95% CI 1.81, 13.4). CONCLUSIONS: Digital communication inequalities among adults who smoke exist. Understanding digital technology access among lower income populations could inform the development and delivery of interventions and health communication strategies to improve health outcomes among this population.

OBJECTIVE: Improving current and future risk communication plans is critical to mitigate the COVID-19 pandemic and begin to prepare for future pandemics. Minority groups, particularly African Americans, have been limited in engagement to prepare these plans which has been demonstrated to be disadvantageous. We report findings from a qualitative study that describes gaps, needs, and strategies to improve communication among vulnerable, Black American subgroups during the COVID-19 pandemic. METHODS: Sixty-two Black Americans in uniquely, vulnerable subgroups participated in qualitative, semi-structured interviews from May to September 2020. Thematic analyses were used to identify themes. RESULTS: Participants were 16 essential workers, 16 parents, 15 young adults, and 15 individuals with underlying medical conditions. Emerging themes were: (1) Poor communication and miscommunication fueled fear and confusion; (2) Information sources and channels: How do I choose one?; (3) Communication needs were simple yet complex; (4) All information sources are not trusted information sources; (5) Preferred yet trusted channels and types of information; and (6) Dissemination of COVID Research: Why and How. Subgroups varied in information sources and processes for choosing the source, communication needs, and channels and types of information needed. They shared why they did and did not trust certain sources along with the importance of COVID research dissemination to promote informed decision-making throughout the pandemic. DISCUSSION: This study found that Black American subgroups had diverse, yet trusted and non-trusted messages, messengers, and strategies for communication and wanted research results disseminated. We describe multi-level stakeholders and strategies to help improve risk communication for pandemics, and potentially preparedness and health outcomes.

Resumo Centrando-se no impacto que a comunicação de risco emitida pelas organizações de saúde pública tem na mudança dos comportamentos da sociedade, esta investigação pretende analisar as mensagens-chave que a Organização Mundial de Saúde (OMS) definiu para promover o programa de vacinação contra a covid-19. Para cumprir este objetivo, enveredou-se por uma metodologia de estudo qualitativa, que privilegiou o uso da análise do conteúdo publicado nas páginas de Facebook e de Instagram da OMS, no período de 1 de abril a 31 de agosto de 2021. No total, foram analisadas 62 publicações. Os resultados mostraram que a OMS utilizou quatro eixo de comunicação para promover a importância da vacinação na sociedade: garantir a credibilidade e a transparência da informação transmitida; certificar a segurança e a eficácia da vacina; apelar ao sentido de responsabilidade coletiva; e associar a vacina à solução para pôr fim à pandemia. As conclusões do estudo mostram que, embora a equidade no acesso à vacina ainda seja uma realidade em construção, os quase 70% da população mundial vacinada sugerem que as mensagens enviadas pela OMS no contexto de comunicação de risco podem ter contribuído para a construção de uma imagem positiva do programa de vacinação.


Abstract Focusing on the impact that risk communication issued by public health organizations brings to changing societal behaviors, this research aimed to analyze the key messages that the World Health Organization (WHO) has defined to promote the COVID-19 vaccination program. In order to achieve this goal, a qualitative study methodology was used to analyze the content published on the WHO's Facebook and Instagram pages from April 1 to August 31, 2021. In total, 62 publications were analyzed. The results showed that the WHO used four key communication messages to promote the importance of vaccination in society: ensuring the credibility and transparency of the information transmitted; certifying the safety and efficacy of the vaccine; appealing to a sense of collective responsibility; and associating the vaccine with the solution to end the pandemic were the chosen communication axes. The conclusions of this study show that, although fair access to the vaccine is still a reality in the making, the fact that almost 70% of the world's population has been vaccinated suggests that the messages sent by the WHO in the context of risk communication may have contributed to building a positive image of the vaccination program.

BACKGROUND: Parents play a vital role in the sexual and reproductive health (SRH) of adolescents. Parents' communication with their adolescents regarding SRH is considered an important part of adolescent development, as this contributes to optimising safe SRH. AIM: This phase of the study explored the culturally sensitive SRH information communication skill needs of parents, based on their personal and social motivation, within the Ghanaian context. SETTING: The study was conducted at the Asante Akyem North Municipality of Ghana. METHODS: This article describes the second phase of an explanatory, sequential, mixed-method study. Following on from the first phase systematic review, this second phase comprised a qualitative descriptive study where 10 purposively sampled parents of adolescents participated in semi-structured interviews to elicit data. Braun and Clarke's thematic data analysis process was applied. Data were saved and managed in Atlas.ti (version 23.0.7). RESULTS: Four themes emerged on communication skills: SRH information, parent and adolescent factors, contextual factors and communication skill needs. Parent and adolescent communication on SRH takes place occasionally. Parents lack the skills to communicate with adolescents regarding SRH. CONCLUSION: Parents in this context require skills to communicate SRH information with their adolescent children. A culturally appropriate intervention that supports SRH information communication between parents and adolescents may have value in guiding this communication process.Contribution: The findings of this study can contribute to the adaptation of a culturally sensitive SRH information communication intervention in Ghana which will promote adolescent SRH.

Nutrition and food literacy are two important concepts that are often used interchangeably, but they are not synonymous. Nutrition refers to the study of how food affects the body, while food literacy refers to the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to make informed decisions about food and its impact on health. Despite the growing awareness of the importance of food literacy, food illiteracy remains a global issue, affecting people of all ages, backgrounds, and socioeconomic status. Food illiteracy has serious health implications as it contributes to health inequities, particularly among vulnerable populations. In addition, food literacy is a complex and multidisciplinary field, and there are numerous challenges to health communication that must be addressed to effectively promote food literacy and improve health outcomes. Addressing food illiteracy and the challenges to health communication is essential to promote health equity and improve health outcomes for all populations.

El suicidio es un importante problema de salud pública con consecuencias sociales, emocionales y económicas de largo alcance. Se estima que en la actualidad se producen más de 700 000 suicidios al año en todo el mundo, y cada suicidio afecta directamente a muchas más personas. Los profesionales de los medios han sido fundamentales para dar forma a las narrativas culturales que mejoran la salud de las poblaciones en todo el mundo. Las investigaciones actuales indican que la prevención del suicidio, si bien es factible, implica una serie de actividades que van desde la provisión de las mejores condiciones posibles para la crianza de nuestros niños y jóvenes, pasando por la evaluación precisa y oportuna de las condiciones de salud mental y su manejo eficaz, hasta la restricción de los medios de suicidio, y más. Aunque el suicidio se ha discutido a menudo como un problema relacionado con la salud mental y/o solo como un problema de base biomédica, el suicidio es complejo y multifacético y debe abordarse de forma apropiada. La difusión adecuada de información, la provisión de recursos y la sensibilización son elementos esenciales para el éxito de la prevención del suicidio. La información responsable sobre el suicidio también es un componente crítico en la prevención del suicidio. Es necesario tener en cuenta diversas cuestiones culturales, locales/regionales, relacionadas con la edad y el género en los esfuerzos destinados a prevenir el suicidio. Esta es la cuarta versión de Prevención del suicidio: un recurso para profesionales de los medios y es el producto de la colaboración continua entre la Organización Mundial de la Salud y la Asociación Internacional para la Prevención del Suicidio (IASP). Background: Health science popularization short video disseminates health information to the public in an understandable way about health information. Objective: To investigate the preferences of Chinese residents for health science popularization short videos and provide suggestions for optimizing the production of short videos. Methods: An online survey of Chinese people was conducted using a self-administered questionnaire, and a discrete choice experiment (DCE) was used to explore the public's preferences for health science popularization short videos. Results: A total of 618 respondents were included, of which 306 (45.51%) were male and 312 (50.49%) were female, 271 (43.85%) were aged 18-25, 239 (38.67%) were aged 26-60, and 108 (17.48%) were aged 60 and above. Whether the video is charged or not (46.891%) and the account subject (28.806%) were both considered important. The results of the DCE revealed that the participants considered video free of charge as the most significant attribute of health science popularization short videos (OR 3.433, 95% CI 3.243-3.633). Overall, participants preferred and were more willing to pay for health science popularization short videos with a hospital account subject (OR 1.192, 95% CI 1.116-1.274), with the form of graphic narration (OR 1.062, 95% CI 1.003-1.126), free of charge (OR 3.433, 95% CI 3.243-3.633), with the content that satisfies their needs (very much needed: OR 1.253, 95% CI 95% CI 1.197-1.311; generally needed: OR 1.078, 95% CI 1.029-1.129), with platform certification (OR 1.041, 95% CI 1.011-1.073), without commercial advertisements (OR 1.048, 95% CI 1.018-1.080), with simple-to-understand content (OR 1.071, 95% CI 1.040-1.104), and with video content that evokes fear or dread of illness in the viewer (OR 1.046, 95% CI 1.015-1.078). Conclusion: Participants favor free health popularization short videos, which are hospital accounts, with content that is illustrated, understandable, meets their needs, and can serve as a warning. In the future, the production of health popularization short videos should focus on improving the diversity and relevance of video content, making it as easy to understand to achieve good science popularization effects.
