Concept analysis of nursing activism.

Nursing history is firmly rooted in social and political activism; however, both the word activism and its defined actions have been minimized in modern nursing practice. This paper seeks to define activism, its uses, and importance to the nursing discipline. A concept analysis using the Walker and Avant (2019) method was conducted. Literature sources were identified through a search of PubMed, CINAHL, and PsycINFO along with hand searches of reference lists. Nursing activism is a concept that extends from within the discipline's ethical responsibilities and social contract with humanity. Activism differs from advocacy or engagement as it requires the expenditure of energy including personal, social, and/or political capital. Nursing activism is a necessary response to health inequities, social accountability, and advancement of the nursing profession.

Cipescando rumo à equidade: reflexões acerca da Classificação Internacional de Práticas de Enfermagem em Saúde Coletiva / Reflections about International Classification for Nursing Practice in Collective Health: heading for equity / Repensando la Clasificación Internacional para la Práctica de Enfermería en Salud Colectiva para el alacnce de la equidad

O presente artigo tem o propósito de refletir de que modo a equidade pode ser alcançada pelo uso da Classificação Internacional das Práticas de Enfermagem em Saúde Coletiva - CIPESC®. A CIPESC® é um sistema classificador brasileiro utilizado sobretudo em consultas de enfermagem na atenção básica. A eqüidade em saúde significa que todos os indivíduos de uma sociedade devem ter a justa oportunidade para desenvolver seu pleno potencial de saúde. Ao permitir conhecer os diagnósticos de enfermagem e as intervenções, possibilita conhecer as necessidades em saúde e as vulnerabilidade que se encontram distribuídas desigualmente nos grupos sociais. Ao intervir nos grupos vulneráveis revisita os processos de trabalho rumo à equidade, recortando um novo objeto e criando instrumentos mais eficazes de intervenção.

The paper aims to discuss the way of equity can be reached by International Classification of Nursing Practice in Collective Health - CIPESC®. CIPESC® is a Brazilian system to classify nursing phenomena, It's used in nursing consultation in primary care. Equity in health means that everyone in the society has opportunity to improve their potential of health. CIPESC® allows to know the nursing diagnoses and interventions and doing this allows knowing health needs and vulnerabilities of the social groups. Nursing interventions in the most vulnerable groups results interventions heading for equity. At the same time, it's possible to revisit work process in health aiming to better focusing nursing actions. Also it's possible to create new tools to the nursing interventions.

Este estudio tiene como propósito reflexionar como la equidad podrá ser alcanzada por la utilización de Clasificación Internacional de las Practicas en Enfermería en Salud Colectiva - CIPESC®. La CIPESC® es un sistema clasificador brasileño utilizado en consultas de enfermería en atención primaria. La equidad en salud significa que todos los individuos de una sociedad debe tener la justa oportunidad para desarrollar su pleno potencial de salud. La Cipesc® permite conocer los diagnósticos de enfermería y las intervenciones, permitiendo conocer las necesidades en salud y las vulnerabilidades de los grupos sociales. Intervenir en los grupos más vulnerables permite redireccionar los procesos de trabajo de enfermería rumo à la equidad, focalizando mejor su objeto de trabajo y creando nuevos instrumentos de intervención.

Integration of nursing assessment concepts into the medical entities dictionary using the LOINC semantic structure as a terminology model.

Recent investigations have tested the applicability of various terminology models for the representing nursing concepts including those related to nursing diagnoses, nursing interventions, and standardized nursing assessments as a prerequisite for building a reference terminology that supports the nursing domain. We used the semantic structure of Clinical LOINC (Logical Observations, Identifiers, Names, and Codes) as a reference terminology model to support the integration of standardized assessment terms from two nursing terminologies into the Medical Entities Dictionary (MED), the concept-oriented, metadata dictionary at New York Presbyterian Hospital. Although the LOINC semantic structure was used previously to represent laboratory terms in the MED, selected hierarchies and semantic slots required revisions in order to incorporate the nursing assessment concepts. This project was an initial step in integrating nursing assessment concepts into the MED in a manner consistent with evolving standards for reference terminology models. Moreover, the revisions provide the foundation for adding other types of standardized assessments to the MED.

Strategies and tools for creating a common nursing terminology within a large health maintenance organization.

A common nursing terminology is essential for outcomes research, data comparability and clinical documentation in an electronic health record. Kaiser Permanente has recognized the need to develop a common nursing and medical terminology across the program. The Interregional Nursing Nomenclature Committee has developed a model for developing a common nursing terminology integrated with other healthcare terminologies.
