Public participation in precision medicine (PM) research is essential to achieving effective health care but has been impeded by a lack of awareness and basic knowledge. There is a critical need for educational materials that can clearly explain PM to foster involvement. This randomized controlled trial with a posttest-only control group design aims to assess the effects of educational messages delivered through animations relative to live-action videos and leaflets on intentions of involvement in PM research. Knowledge as the moderator and four mediators (engagement, vividness, trustworthiness, and cognitive value) of the intended effects were also evaluated. A total of 326 U.S. adults were sampled from Amazon Mechanical Turk. Among participants with less knowledge about PM, animations produced stronger information-seeking intentions and willingness to participate than leaflets. The effects of three message modalities were not significantly different among average and highly knowledgeable participants. Engagement and vividness mediated the effects of animations relative to two other message modalities. Trustworthiness and cognitive value mediated the effects of animations relative to live-action videos. Overall, animations can be an effective communication strategy to motivate involvement in PM but its effectiveness could decline as knowledge increases. The explanations and implications of the findings were discussed.

Antibiotics have attracted global attention because of their potential ecological and health risks. The emission, multimedia fate and risk of 18 selected antibiotics in the entire Yangtze River basin were evaluated by using a level Ⅳ fugacity model. High antibiotic emissions were found in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River basin. The total antibiotic emissions in the Yangtze River basin exceeded 1600 tons per year between 2013 and 2021. The spatial distribution of antibiotics concentration was the upper Yangtze River > middle Yangtze River > lower Yangtze River, which is positively correlated with animal husbandry size in the basin. Temperature and precipitation increases may decrease the antibiotic concentrations in the environment. Transfer fluxes showed that source emission inputs, advection processes, and degradation fluxes contributed more to the total input and output. High ecological risks in the water environment were found in 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021. The comprehensive health risk assessment through drinking water and fish consumption routes showed that a small part of the Yangtze River basin is at medium risk, and children have a relatively high degree of health risk. This study provides a scientific basis for the pollution control of antibiotics at the basin scale.

BACKGROUND: People need high-quality information to make decisions about research participation. Providing information in written format alone is conventional but may not be the most effective and acceptable approach. We developed a structure for the presentation of information using multimedia which included generic and trial-specific content. Our aim was to embed 'Studies Within A Trial' (SWATs) across multiple ongoing trials to test whether multimedia presentation of patient information led to better rates of recruitment. METHODS: Five trials included a SWAT and randomised their participants to receive a multimedia presentation alongside standard information, or standard written information alone. We collected data on trial recruitment, acceptance and retention and analysed the pooled results using random effects meta-analysis, with the primary outcome defined as the proportion of participants randomised following an invitation to take part. RESULTS: Five SWATs provided data on the primary outcome of proportion of participants randomised. Multimedia alongside written information results in little or no difference in recruitment rates (pooled odds ratio = 0.96, 95% CI: 0.79 to 1.17, p-value = 0.671, I2 = 0%). There was no effect on any other outcomes. CONCLUSIONS: Multimedia alongside written information did not improve trial recruitment rates. OBJECTIVE: The aim: To improve the results of providing medical care in the conditions of a full-scale war in Ukraine due to the use of medical technologies. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Materials and methods: From the first days, the Military Medical Clinical Center of the Southern Region provided medical assistance to the persons wounded as a result of the Russian Federation's armed aggression. The presented multidisciplinary observation includes data received from 24.02.22 to 26.05.22. During this term, the multidisciplinary team assisted by the Teladoc Health system (the connection between the Charite Clinic, Berlin, and the MMCC of the Southern Region, Ukraine) performed 39 reconstructive and remedial operations in the MMCC of the Southern Region (Department of Surgical Infection). RESULTS: Results: It has been found that the implementation of differentiated surgical tactics (developed in cooperation between Charite clinics, Berlin, and MMCC of the Southern Region, Ukraine, using the Teladoc health system) in wounded patients with gunshot defects of soft tissues at the III and IV levels of medical care improves functional results, increases indicators of satisfactory from 46.9 % to 53.7 %, reducing the relative number of unsatisfactory from 18.8 % to 11.6 %. CONCLUSION: Conclusions: The information exchange in the Teladoc Health system is performed in telephone mode through protected communication channels. It enabled real-time treatment strategy recommendations and improved functional outcomes, increasing the satisfactory rate from 46.9 % to 53.7 %, and reducing the relative unsatisfactory rate from 18.8 % to 11.6 %.

Antibiotics are widely found in aquatic ecosystems and pose a serious threat to human and the ecological system. Samples of surface water (SW), overlying water (OW), pore water (PW) and sediments (Sedi) were collected to investigate the spatial variability, potential sources, ecological risk (RQs) and health risks (HQs) of nine common antibiotics in Baiyangdian Lake using positive matrix factorization (PMF), and Monte Carlo simulation. Significant spatial autocorrelation of most antibiotics were observed in PW and Sedi samples rather than in SW and OW samples, and higher antibiotic levels were found in the northwest of waters and the southwest of sediments. Livestock (26.74-35.57%) and aquaculture (21.62-37.70%) were identified as primary sources of antibiotics in the water and sediments. Norfloxacin and roxithromycin showed high levels of RQ and HQ in more than 50% of samples, respectively. The combined RQ (ΣRQ) in the PW can be used as a sign of across multimedia risk. Notably, appreciable health risks were observed for the combined HQ (ΣHQ) in about 80% of samples, indicating the importance of taking health risk of antibiotics into consideration. The findings of this work provides a reference for antibiotics pollution control and risk management in shallow lake.

We propose novel chemometers - passive equilibrium samplers of, e.g., silicone - as an integrative tool for the assessment of hydrophobic organic compounds in multimedia environments. The traditional way of assessing levels of organic pollutants across different environmental compartments is to compare the chemical concentration normalized to the major sorptive phase in two or more media. These sorptive phases for hydrophobic organic compounds differ between compartments, e.g., lipids in biota and organic carbon in sediments. Hence, comparability across media can suffer due to differences in sorptive capacities, but also extraction protocols and bioavailability. Chemometers overcome these drawbacks; they are a common, universal and well-defined polymer reference phase for sampling of a large range of nonpolar organic pollutants in different matrices like biota, sediment and water. When bringing the chemometer into direct contact with the sample, the chemicals partition between the sample and the polymer until thermodynamic equilibrium partitioning is established. At equilibrium, the chemical concentrations in the chemometers can be determined and directly compared between media, e.g., between organisms of different trophic levels or inhabiting different areas, between organs within an organism or between biotic and abiotic compartments, amongst others. Chemometers hence allow expressing the data on a common basis, as the equilibrium partitioning concentrations in the polymer, circumventing normalizations. The approach is based on chemical activity rather than total concentrations, and as such, gives a measure of the "effective concentration" of a compound or a mixture. Furthermore, chemical activity is the main driver for partitioning, biouptake and toxicity. As an additional benefit, the extracts of the chemometers only require limited cleanup efforts, avoiding introduction of a bias between chemicals of different persistence, and can be submitted to both chemical analysis and/or bioanalytical profiling.

The positive effects of a healthy lifestyle on the holistic physical condition and quality of life of cancer survivors is scientifically proven. The National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) Guidelines for Survivorship specifically highlight the need for support in these areas. The lack of specialised offers for cancer patients in predominantly rural areas, however, represents a high level of assistance needed in terms of the development and implementation of a healthy lifestyle. Following a needs assessment, our aim was to conceptualise and design an easily accessible multi-media patient information system on the basis of a social-cognitive process model on health behaviour (Health Action Process Approach - HAPA). A higher level of health literacy represents, inter alia, the basis for informed choice and, as such, forms an important resource for the aftercare of cancer patients. Further studies are recommended on the acceptance, use and effects of patient information with regard to intended longer-term changes of health behaviour.

Diabetes mellitus (DM) and obesity are chronic medical conditions associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Accurate macronutrient and energy estimation could be beneficial in attempts to manage DM and obesity, leading to improved glycemic control and weight reduction, respectively. Existing dietary assessment methods are subject to major errors in measurement, are time consuming, are costly, and do not provide real-time feedback. The increasing adoption of smartphones and artificial intelligence, along with the advances in algorithms and hardware, allowed the development of technologies executed in smartphones that use food/beverage multimedia data as an input, and output information about the nutrient content in almost real time. Scope of this review was to explore the various image-based and video-based systems designed for dietary assessment. We identified 22 different systems and divided these into three categories on the basis of their setting for evaluation: laboratory (12), preclinical (7), and clinical (3). The major findings of the review are that there is still a number of open research questions and technical challenges to be addressed and end users-including health care professionals and patients-need to be involved in the design and development of such innovative solutions. Last, there is a clear need that these systems should be validated under unconstrained real-life conditions and that they should be compared with conventional methods for dietary assessment.

BACKGROUND: Understanding how cardiovascular structure and physiology guide management is critically important in paediatric cardiology. However, few validated educational tools are available to assess trainee knowledge. To address this deficit, paediatric cardiologists and fellows from four institutions collaborated to develop a multimedia assessment tool for use with medical students and paediatric residents. This tool was developed in support of a novel 3-dimensional virtual reality curriculum created by our group. METHODS: Educational domains were identified, and questions were iteratively developed by a group of clinicians from multiple centres to assess understanding of key concepts. To evaluate content validity, content experts completed the assessment and reviewed items, rating item relevance to educational domains using a 4-point Likert scale. An item-level content validity index was calculated for each question, and a scale-level content validity index was calculated for the assessment tool, with scores of ≥0.78 and ≥0.90, respectively, representing excellent content validity. RESULTS: The mean content expert assessment score was 92% (range 88-97%). Two questions yielded ≤50% correct content expert answers. The item-level content validity index for 29 out of 32 questions was ≥0.78, and the scale-level content validity index was 0.92. Qualitative feedback included suggestions for future improvement. Questions with ≤50% content expert agreement and item-level content validity index scores <0.78 were removed, yielding a 27-question assessment tool. CONCLUSIONS: We describe a multi-centre effort to create and validate a multimedia assessment tool which may be implemented within paediatric trainee cardiology curricula. Future efforts may focus on content refinement and expansion to include additional educational domains.

3D point clouds have found a wide variety of applications in multimedia processing, remote sensing, and scientific computing. Although most point cloud processing systems are developed to improve viewer experiences, little work has been dedicated to perceptual quality assessment of 3D point clouds. In this work, we build a new 3D point cloud database, namely the Waterloo Point Cloud (WPC) database. In contrast to existing datasets consisting of small-scale and low-quality source content of constrained viewing angles, the WPC database contains 20 high quality, realistic, and omni-directional source point clouds and 740 diversely distorted point clouds. We carry out a subjective quality assessment experiment over the database in a controlled lab environment. Our statistical analysis suggests that existing objective point cloud quality assessment (PCQA) models only achieve limited success in predicting subjective quality ratings. We propose a novel objective PCQA model based on an attention mechanism and a variant of information content-weighted structural similarity, which significantly outperforms existing PCQA models. Introducción: En la Facultad de Tecnología de la Salud se estudia la carrera Sistemas de Información en Salud que incluye en su plan de estudios diversas asignaturas como Sistemas de Información de Estadísticas de Salud, en la que se incluye el estudio de los indicadores hospitalarios del recurso cama; materia que se imparte de forma tradicional y no tiene una herramienta tecnológica de apoyo que facilite el proceso educativo. Objetivo: Diseñar un prototipo de multimedia educativa que favorezca el auto-aprendizaje de los indicadores del recurso cama hospitalaria en la asignatura Sistemas de Información de Estadísticas de Salud de la carrera Sistemas de Información en Salud. Método: Se realizó un estudio de desarrollo tecnológico donde fueron encuestados estudiantes y se entrevistó a la profesora de la asignatura para la obtención de la información. Se utilizó la metodología de Proceso Unificado de Desarrollo y el Lenguaje Unificado de Modelado. Se emplearon las herramientas Visual Paradigm para el modelado, Axure para la creación del prototipo y Mediator para el futuro diseño de la multimedia. Resultados: Se identificaron los problemas de aprendizaje desde la visión de alumnos y profesores, lo que permitió diseñar el prototipo de multimedia educativa sobre los indicadores hospitalarios del recurso cama, que fue considerado útil y pertinente. Conclusiones: Se diseñó un prototipo de multimedia educativa que de manera combinada con el método actual de enseñanza facilitarán y efectuarán de forma dinámica las actividades en el proceso docente educativo(AU)


Introduction: Health Information Systems career is included In the Faculty of Health Technology; the career have in its curriculum subjects as Health Statistics Information Systems, in which the study of hospital resource bed indicators is carried out; the subject is taught in a traditional way and does not have a technological support tool that facilitates the educational process. Objective: To design an educational multimedia prototype that favors self-learning of the indicators of the hospital bed resource in the Health Statistics Information Systems subject of the Health Information Systems career. Method: A survey of students and interview of teachers permitted to obtain the information needed to carry out a study of technological development using Unified Development Process methodology and Unified Modeling Language; Visual Paradigm tools were used for modeling; Axure for prototyping and Mediator for future multimedia design. Results: there were identified learning problems from the perspective of students and teachers, which allowed the design of the educational multimedia prototype on hospital bed resource indicators, considering it useful and pertinent. Conclusions: The design of the educational multimedia prototype, combined with the current teaching method, will facilitate and dynamically carry out the activities in the educational teaching process(AU)

Introducción: Al elaborar una metodología resulta importante obtener los criterios de expertos antes de su aplicación. En un periodo precedente a esta investigación se elaboró una metodología con etapas y procedimientos para el desarrollo de software educativo. Objetivo: Valorar la pertinencia de la metodología para la integración de software educativo en el proceso de enseñanza-aprendizaje de las asignaturas Rehabilitación I y II de Estomatología. Método: Se realizó una investigación pedagógica en la Universidad de Ciencias Médicas de Holguín. Para valorar la pertinencia de la metodología se aplicó el método Delphi, a partir del cual, mediante una encuesta aplicada a 17 expertos seleccionados por su alto coeficiente de competencia en la temática, se pudo llegar a un consenso sobre el tema explorado. Resultados: La aplicación del cuestionario reveló que la mayoría de los expertos consideró cada indicador de la dimensión validez como muy adecuado, solo uno evaluó el indicador etapas de la metodología como adecuado y los procedimientos de la etapa dos como bastante adecuados. Para la dimensión viabilidad casi la totalidad consideró muy adecuados los indicadores factibilidad de aplicación y posibilidad de generalización; esta última fue evaluada por un experto como adecuada. Al comparar los resultados de los siete indicadores con los puntos de corte se aprecia que los expertos en su conjunto los definen como muy adecuados. Conclusiones: La pertinencia de la metodología se constató con el criterio consensuado de los expertos, quienes consideraron muy adecuados los aspectos valorados, y realizaron aportes que permitieron perfeccionarla antes de su implementación. Sobre estas bases no fue necesaria una segunda etapa de aplicación del método(AU)


Introduction: When developing a methodology, it is important to obtain the criteria of experts before its application. In a period preceding this research, a methodology with stages and procedures was defined for the development of educational software. Objective: To assess the relevance of the methodology for the integration of educational software in the teaching-learning process of the subjects Rehabilitation I and II of Stomatology. Method: A pedagogical research was carried out at the University Of Medical Sciences Of Holguín. To assess the relevance of the methodology, the Delphi method was applied, from which, through a survey applied to 17 experts selected for their high coefficient of competence in the subject, a consensus could be reached on the explored topic. Results: The application of the questionnaire revealed that most of the experts considered each indicator of the validity dimension as very adequate; only one evaluated the indicator stages of the methodology as adequate and the procedures of stage two as quite adequate. For the feasibility dimension, almost all considered the feasibility of application and possibility of generalization indicators to be very adequate; the latter was evaluated by an expert as adequate. When comparing the results of the seven indicators with the cut-off points, it can be seen that the experts as a whole define them as very adequate. Conclusions: The relevance of the methodology was verified with the agreed criteria of the experts, who considered the aspects evaluated to be very adequate, and made contributions that allowed it to be perfected before its implementation. On these bases, a second stage of application of the method was not necessary(AU)

The main contribution of the investigation is the Markov model of the process of resource allocation management between subscribers of eMBB and mMTC services within the 5G cluster. The proposed model, considers the organization of the channel resource in the format of resource blocks. The presented model allows to estimate the average duration of IoT sessions, the average number of active multimedia/IoT sessions, the average number of channel resource units occupied by multimedia/IoT traffic, the average number of resource blocks occupied by multimedia/IoT traffic. The metrics are generalized by three management schemes of the investigated process: balanced, competitive and perspective. The first and third schemes enable static/dynamic distribution of channel resources into reserved and common segments for subscribers of eMBB and mMTC services. The proposed model is illustrated with an example showing how to assess the availability and efficiency of channel resource use of the 5G cluster of the cyber-physical system of the Situation Center of the Department of Information Technology of Vinnytsia City Council (Vinnytsia, Ukraine). The article also shows how to use the proposed model to select the 5G network parameters to keep the probabilities of rejection of multimedia and IoT requests below a set threshold.

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate digital, multimedia information (MMI) for its effects on trial recruitment, retention, decisions about participation and acceptability by patients, compared with printed information. DESIGN: Study Within A Trial using random cluster allocation within the Forearm Fracture Recovery in Children Evaluation (FORCE) study. SETTING: Emergency departments in 23 UK hospitals. PARTICIPANTS: 1409 children aged 4-16 years attending with a torus (buckle) fracture, and their parents/guardian. Children's mean age was 9.2 years, 41.0% were female, 77.4% were ethnically White and 90.0% spoke English as a first language. INTERVENTIONS: Participants and their parents/guardian received trial information either via multimedia, including animated videos, talking head videos and text (revised for readability and age appropriateness when needed) on tablet computer (MMI group; n=681), or printed participant information sheet (PIS group; n=728). OUTCOME MEASURES: Primary outcome was recruitment rate to FORCE. Secondary outcomes were Decision-Making Questionnaire (nine Likert items, analysed summatively and individually), three 'free text' questions (deriving subjective evaluations) and trial retention. RESULTS: MMI produced a small, not statistically significant increase in recruitment: 475 (69.8%) participants were recruited from the MMI group; 484 (66.5%) from the PIS group (OR=1.35; 95% CI 0.76 to 2.40, p=0.31). A total of 324 (23.0%) questionnaires were returned and analysed. There was no difference in total Decision-Making Questionnaire scores: adjusted mean difference 0.05 (95% CI -1.23 to 1.32, p=0.94). The MMI group was more likely to report the information 'very easy' to understand (89; 57.8% vs 67; 39.4%; Z=2.60, p=0.01) and identify information that was explained well (96; 62.3% vs 71; 41.8%). Almost all FORCE recruits were retained at the 6 weeks' timepoint and there was no difference in retention rate between the information groups: MMI (473; 99.6%); PIS (481; 99.4%). CONCLUSIONS: MMI did not increase recruitment or retention in the FORCE trial, but participants rated multimedia as easier to understand and were more likely to evaluate it positively. This study explores the athlete's health status evaluation system based on an edge computing model and large-scale multimedia health data analysis in order to improve the assessment effect of athletes' current health state. In addition to that, this research builds a wireless signal propagation model in edge areas using bicubic polynomial interpolation, improves the accuracy of DEM data by using bicubic polynomial interpolation, and digitally represents the sports field by utilizing DEM data. In addition to that, the model and DEM data are utilized in this paper to realize the site selection process for base station networking. The experimental analysis demonstrates that the athletes' health status evaluation system suggested in this research, which is based on the edge computing model and the large-scale multimedia health data analysis, has a good effect on the assessment of athletes' health.

RESUMO

Purpose: Yolŋu (First Nations Australians from North-East Arnhem Land, Northern Territory) and Balanda (non-Indigenous people) often encounter communication challenges at a cultural interface during the provision of health and education services. To address these challenges, our project co-created an educational process and resources to inform and facilitate intercultural communication. During interactive workshops, participants and researchers from different cultural backgrounds reflected on their communication practice together in small groups. Reflection and discussion during the workshops were supported by multi-media resources designed to be accessible and resonant for both Yolŋu and Balanda partners. Participants explored and implemented strategies during intercultural engagement within and beyond the workshop. In this article we explain our processes of co-creating intercultural communication education and share features of our educational process and resources that resonated with participants from both cultural groups.Method: Our intercultural team of researchers used a culturally-responsive approach to Participatory Action Research (PAR) to co-create an intercultural communication workshop and multi-media resources collaboratively with 52 Yolŋu and Balanda end-users.Result: Collaborating (the power and value of genuine collaboration and engagement throughout the process) and connecting (the meeting and valuing of multiple knowledges, languages and modes of expression) were key elements of both our methods and findings. Our processes co-created accessible, inclusive, collaborative spaces in which researchers and participants were actively supported to implement intercultural communication processes as they learned about them.Conclusion: Our work may have relevance for others who are developing educational processes and resources for facilitating intercultural communication in ways that honour participants' voices, challenge inaccessible systems, resonate with diverse audiences and create opportunities for research translation.Explanation of terms• Yolŋu are First Nations Australians from North-East Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory of Australia.• Balanda is a term used by speakers of Yolŋu languages to refer to non-Indigenous people.• First Nations Australians is used to include diverse Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in Australia. This term recognises the identities of First Nations peoples who hold unceded sovereignty over their lands and waters.• The pronouns we, us and our are used to refer to the intercultural research team who are also authors (i.e. Emily, Gapany, Läwurrpa, Yuŋgirrŋa and supervisors Anne, Lyn and Sarah). When sharing other people's perspectives, or the voices of individual researchers, the text will specify whose voice is being shared.

Study designs involving randomization can be difficult to communicate to participants, especially those with low literacy. The literature on strategies to explain research concepts is limited, especially for non-English speakers. We measured the effectiveness of a culturally and contextually situated multimedia approach to recruit a cohort of 60 female Mexican immigrants (FMI) to a randomized control trial (RCT) to reduce social isolation and depression. This strategy was designed to explain the concept of randomization, explain what participating in the research study entailed, and ensure informed consent. Potential participants viewed a presentation explaining the study and a video including animation with voice-over explaining the concept of randomization. We administered a pre/post survey. Respondents (N = 59) reported an increase in their understanding of randomization, intention to enroll, and attitude towards participating in research. We conclude that a culturally and contextually situated multimedia approach is an effective model when recruiting underrepresented populations with low literacy for RCTs.

Advanced driver-assistance system(s) (ADAS) are more prevalent in high-end vehicles than in low-end vehicles. Wired solutions of vision sensors in ADAS already exist, but are costly and do not cater for low-end vehicles. General ADAS use wired harnessing for communication; this approach eliminates the need for cable harnessing and, therefore, the practicality of a novel wireless ADAS solution was tested. A low-cost alternative is proposed that extends a smartphone's sensor perception, using a camera-based wireless sensor network. This paper presents the design of a low-cost ADAS alternative that uses an intra-vehicle wireless sensor network structured by a Wi-Fi Direct topology, using a smartphone as the processing platform. The proposed system makes ADAS features accessible to cheaper vehicles and investigates the possibility of using a wireless network to communicate ADAS information in a intra-vehicle environment. Other ADAS smartphone approaches make use of a smartphone's onboard sensors; however, this paper shows the application of essential ADAS features developed on the smartphone's ADAS application, carrying out both lane detection and collision detection on a vehicle by using wireless sensor data. A smartphone's processing power was harnessed and used as a generic object detector through a convolution neural network, using the sensory network's video streams. The network's performance was analysed to ensure that the network could carry out detection in real-time. A low-cost CMOS camera sensor network with a smartphone found an application, using Wi-Fi Direct, to create an intra-vehicle wireless network as a low-cost advanced driver-assistance system.

BACKGROUND: Artificial intelligence (AI) intends to support clinicians' patient diagnosis decisions by processing and identifying insights from multimedia patient information. OBJECTIVE: We explored clinicians' current decision-making patterns using multimedia patient information (MPI) provided by AI algorithms and identified areas where AI can support clinicians in diagnostic decision-making. DESIGN: We recruited 87 advanced practice nursing (APN) students who had experience making diagnostic decisions using AI algorithms under various care contexts, including telehealth and other healthcare modalities. The participants described their diagnostic decision-making experiences using videos, images, and audio-based MPI. RESULTS: Clinicians processed multimedia patient information differentially such that their focus, selection, and utilization of MPI influence diagnosis and satisfaction levels. CONCLUSIONS AND IMPLICATIONS: To streamline collaboration between AI and clinicians across healthcare contexts, AI should understand clinicians' patterns of MPI processing under various care environments and provide them with interpretable analytic results for them. Furthermore, clinicians must be trained with the interface and contents of AI technology and analytic assistance.
