BACKGROUND: This study aims to (1) determine the reliability and validity of the interRAI Chinese Self-reported Carer Needs (SCaN) assessment among informal Chinese caregivers of older adults, (2) identify predictors of caregiving distress in Asian regions with long-standing Confucian values of filial piety and family responsibility. METHODS: This cross-sectional study recruited 531 informal Chinese caregivers of older adults in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Taiwan, and Singapore. The scale reliability was examined using Cronbach's alphas (α) and McDonald's omega coefficient (ω). The concurrent validity and discriminant validity were assessed using Spearman rank correlations (rho). To examine the predictors of caregiving distress among informal caregivers of older adults, we employed hierarchical linear regression analyses informed by the Model of Carer Stress and Burden and categorized the predictors into six domains. RESULTS: Results revealed good internal consistency reliability (α = 0.83-0.96) and concurrent validity (rho = 0.45-0.74) of the interRAI Chinese SCaN assessment. Hierarchical linear regression analysis revealed that entering the background factors, primary stressors, secondary stressors, appraisal, and exacerbating factors all significantly enhanced the model's predictability, indicating that the source of caregiving distress is multidimensional. In the full model, caregivers with longer informal care time, lack of support from family and friends, have unmet needs, experience role overload, have sleep problems, and low IADL functioning are at a higher risk of caregiving distress. CONCLUSIONS: The interRAI Chinese SCaN Assessment was found to be a reliable and valid tool among the Chinese informal caregivers of older adults. It would be useful for determining family caregivers' strengths, needs, and challenges, and tailoring interventions that address the potentially modifiable factors associated with caregiving distress and maximize support. Healthcare providers working in home and community settings should be aware of the early identification of caregiving distress and routine assessment of their needs and empower them to continue taking care of their needs and providing adequate care to the care recipient.

The mechanisms underlying the processing of the temporal reference of a sentence are still unexplored. Most of the previous psycholinguistic studies used the temporal concord violation between deictic time adverbs and tense marking on the verb to investigate this issue. They found that processing past tense marking is more difficult than non-past tense, indicated by lower accuracy rates and/or longer reaction time. However, it is not clear whether this complexity is due to tense marking or the temporal reference it denotes. This paper examines this issue with a judgment acceptability experiment in Taiwan Mandarin, which is analyzed as a tenseless language. The two modal auxiliary verbs you and hui were placed after deictic past time adverbs (grammatical with you but not with hui) and deictic future time adverbs (grammatical with hui but not with you). The temporal concord violation of the auxiliary verb you led to higher acceptability rates but longer reaction time than hui, reflecting higher processing difficulties. This paper argues that these complexities are due to the existential-assertive meaning of you, which interplays with the meaning of the event described by the verb rendering the situation more or less likely to occur in the future. The computation of the temporal concord of hui, displaying a future sense meaning, is more straightforward and therefore easier to process. This suggests that the mechanisms responsible for temporal reference processing are of different nature depending on the semantics of the temporal marker in the sentence.

BACKGROUND: Given the rising prevalence of depression among older adults and the associated increase in caregiving responsibilities, understanding factors influencing caregiver burden is crucial. Previous research has not extensively explored the impact of caregivers' attributional styles, that is, how individuals interpret the causes of life events, on their care burden. AIM: This study examined the relationship between caregivers' attributional styles and their care burden for older patients with depression. METHODS: This cross-sectional study enrolled older adults aged ≥ 65 years diagnosed with depression and their caregivers. Depression was diagnosed according to the DSM-V criteria for Major Depressive Disorder or Persistent Depressive Disorder. Caregivers completed the Chinese Depression Caregiver Burden Scale (CDCBS) to assess care burden, the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAM-D) to evaluate patient symptom severity, the Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale (CES-D) for measuring caregivers' depression, and the Chinese Depression Patient Caregiver Attribution Style Scale (CDPCAS) to assess attributional styles. Hierarchical regression analysis was used to identify the factors independently associated with the caregiver's subjectively assessed care burden. RESULTS: The sample included 146 caregivers of geriatric patients with depression. Most depression patients were women (74.7%) with a mean age of 74.3 years, whereas the mean age of caregivers was 57.7 years. Hierarchical regression analysis identified that caregivers' gender (ß = - 0.14, p = .044), educational level (ß = 0.19, p = .008), caregivers' own depression assessed by the Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale (ß = 0.41, p < .001), and attributional styles, particularly manipulation (ß = 0.29, p < .001) and illness/stress attributional style (ß = 0.23, p = .002) as independent factors associated with care burden. Patient symptom severity assessed using the Hamilton Depression Scale was not significantly correlated with care burden after controlling for attributional styles. CONCLUSIONS: Certain attributional styles, particularly the manipulation and illness/stress attributional styles, significantly increased self-reported care burden. These findings highlight the need for educational resources to change the attribution style, along with support systems and accessible mental health services for caregivers to potentially ease the care burden.

Sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs) are drinks that contain added sugar or sweeteners and provide calories with no additional nutrients, and some countries have imposed additional taxes on the SSBs to reduce consumption, which is considered an SSB tax policy. This study used a cross-sectional online survey to examine the patterns of public support for an SSB tax in Taiwan. The sample included 1617 adults aged ≥ 20 years, who answered the survey questionnaire between May 2020 and April 2021. The respondents were recruited using convenience sampling, but sampling weights were applied to represent the Taiwanese population. Generalized ordered logit models with sampling weights were used to examine the correlates of public support for an SSB tax. Results showed that ~60% of the respondents supported the SSB tax and 47% perceived the tax to be effective. The respondents who were aware of the perceived health risks of SSBs or those who believed that one should be partly responsible for the health impact of SSBs were more likely to show support for the SSB tax. In adjusted regression models, both one's perceived risk and perceived responsibility of SSBs were positively associated with the perceived effectiveness of the SSB tax after sociodemographic characteristics were controlled. These research findings show evidence that there is public support for implementing an SSB tax to reduce SSB consumption in Taiwan.

In this study, we analyzed the occurrence and distribution of 11 benzophenone-type ultraviolet filters (BPs) in 893 food samples spanning 7 food categories in Taiwan. We conducted a Monte Carlo simulation to determine the carcinogenic and noncarcinogenic risks of BPs. The results indicated that cornflakes had the highest mean level of BPs (103 ng/g), followed by bread (101 ng/g) and pastries (59 ng/g). BP was the most prevalent category, followed by 4-methylbenzophenone (4-MBP), 2-hydroxybenzophenone, and benzophenone-3. Estimation of the lifetime cancer risk (LTCR) of BP (average life expectancy of 80 years) placed them in the 50th and 97.5th percentiles [P50 (P97.5)] LTCR of 1.9 × 10-7 (5.7 × 10-6), indicating that BP in food poses a low renal hazard to the Taiwanese population. The noncarcinogenic risk of BPs was evaluated using a hazard quotient and combined margin of exposure (MOET), revealing a P50 (P97.5) hazard index of < 1 for BP, 4-MBP, and methyl-2-benzoylbenzoate. Although the P50 MOET values for all age groups were within the moderate range of concern, with a more conservative extreme (P2.5), the MOET values for the 0-3, 3-6, and 6-12 age groups fell below 100, indicating a high concern for renal degeneration and hyperplasia.

Urban rivers provide an excellent opportunity for water recreation. This study probabilistically assessed health risks associated with water recreation in urban rivers in the Bitan Scenic Area, Taiwan, by employing quantitative microbial risk assessment and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs). Moreover, the effects of urbanization on the health risks of river recreation induced by waterborne pathogenic Escherichia coli (E. coli) were investigated. First, data on river E. coli levels were collected in both the Bitan Scenic Area and the upstream river section, and model parameters were obtained through a questionnaire administered to river recreationists. Monte Carlo simulation was then employed to address parameter uncertainty. Finally, DALYs were calculated to quantify the cumulative effects in terms of potential life lost and years lived with disability. The results indicated that the 90 % confidence intervals for the disease burden (DB) were 0.2-74.1 × 10-6, 0.01-94.0 × 10-6, and 0.3-128.9 × 10-6 DALY per person per year (pppy) for canoeing, swimming, and fishing, respectively, in the Bitan Scenic Area. Furthermore, urbanization near the Bitan Scenic Area approximately doubled the DB risks to river recreationists in upstream rural areas. At the 95th percentile, the DB risks exceeded the tolerances recommended by the World Health Organization (1 × 10-6) or U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (1 × 10-4). The findings suggest that the simultaneous implementation of effluent sewer systems and best management practices can reduce health risks to river recreationists by at least half, reducing the DALY levels below 1 × 10-4 or even 1 × 10-5 pppy.

RESUMO

Improving nutritional intake contributes to maintaining the health and quality of life of the older population and reducing individual and societal healthcare costs. We collaborated with two community service hubs and a public health center in Taipei's Daan District to develop a personalized community-based health and nutrition program using service design. The design was validated through a model encompassing perceived usefulness, service experience, perceived value, and behavioral intention, analyzed using PLS-SEM modeling on 76 individuals. The results showed bidirectional influences among these factors. This study provides practical recommendations for formulating public health policies and health promotion programs for older adults.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVE: Limited evidence exists regarding the socioeconomic inequalities in cerebrovascular disease (CBD) mortality at different urbanization levels. Therefore, this study was conducted to assess the socioeconomic inequalities and urbanization levels in township-based CBD mortality in Taiwan. METHODS: Socioeconomic variables, including the percentages of low-income households, individuals with a university education and above, and tax payments, were measured at the township level from 2011 to 2020. Urbanization was also determined by the national survey and divided into seven levels. Age-standardized mortality rate (ASMR) of CBD was calculated using a Geographic Information System (GIS) in 358 townships. The effects of socioeconomic variables and urbanization levels on relative and absolute inequalities in township-based CBD mortality rates were examined. RESULTS: Significant differences in ASMR of CBD were observed across all socioeconomic status indicators over the years. Higher proportions of low-income households were associated with higher ASMR of CBD. Conversely, there were negative correlations between higher proportions of individuals with a university education and above and tax payments with ASMR of CBD. The regression analysis indicated significant impacts of relative and absolute socioeconomic inequalities on ASMR of CBD. Additionally, a moderation effect of socioeconomic variables and urbanization on CBD mortality rates was observed, with rural areas showing sensitivity to these factors. CONCLUSION: Although ASMR of CBD showed significant decreases over time, socioeconomic inequalities in CBD mortality rates persist. Interventions targeting socioeconomic inequalities in health outcomes, especially in rural areas, are needed to address this issue.

Three-dimensional (3D) printing is an emerging and booming industry in Taiwan. Compared to traditional manufacturing, 3D printing has various advantages, such as advanced customization, additive manufacturing, reduced mold opening time, and reduced consumption of precursors. In this study, the real-time monitoring of particulate matter (PM) and total volatile organic compound (TVOC) emissions from various filaments is investigated using fused deposition modeling with material extrusion technology, a liquid-crystal display, a stereolithography apparatus based on vat photopolymerization technology, and binder jetting for occupational settings. An exposure assessment for nearby workers using the 3D printing process was performed, and improvement measures were recommended. Nine 3D printing fields were measured. The generation rate of ultrafine particles ranged from 1.19 × 1010 to 4.90 × 1012 #/min, and the geometric mean particle size ranged from 30.91 to 55.50 nm. The average concentration of ultrafine particles ranged from 2.31 × 103 to 7.36 × 104 #/cm3, and the PM2.5 and PM10 concentrations in each field ranged from 0.74 ± 0.27 to 12.46 ± 5.61 µg/m3 and from 2.39 ± 0.60 to 30.65 ± 21.26 µg/m3, respectively. The TVOC concentration ranged from 0.127 ± 0.012 to 1.567 ± 0.172 ppm. The respiratory deposition (RDUFPs) dose ranged from 2.02 × 1013 to 5.54 × 1014 nm2/day. Depending on the operating conditions, appropriate control and protective measures should be employed to protect workers' health.

This study employs a bivariate EGARCH model to examine the Taiwan Futures Exchange's regular and after-hours trading, focusing on the critical aspects of spillover and expiration effects, as well as volatility clustering and asymmetry. The objective of this study is to observe the impact on the trading sessions in Taiwan by the influences of the European and American markets, focusing on the essential roles of the price discovery function and risk disclosure effectiveness of the regular hours trading. This research is imperative considering the increasing interconnectedness of global financial markets and the need for comprehensive risk assessment for investment strategies. It also examines the hedging behavior of after-hours traders, thereby aiming to contribute to pre-investment analysis by future investors. This examination is vital for understanding the dynamics of after-hours trading and its influence on market stability. Results indicate price continuity between both trading sessions, with regular trading often determining after-hours price ranges. Consequently, after-hours price changes can inform regular trading decisions. This finding highlights the importance of after-hours trading for shaping market expectations. Significant profit potential exists in after-hours trading open interest, which serves speculative and hedging purposes. While regular trading volatility influences after-hours trading, the reverse is not true. This suggests Taiwan market information poses a higher risk impact than European and American market data, emphasizing the unique position of the Taiwan market in the global financial ecosystem. After-hours trading volatility reflects the absorption of international market information and plays a crucial role in advance revelation of risks. This underscores the importance of after-hours trading in global risk management and strategy formulation.

Over the last two decades, Taiwan has effectively diminished atmospheric concentrations of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins/furans (PCDD/Fs) through the adept utilization of advanced technologies and the implementation of air pollution control devices. Despite this success, there exists a dearth of data regarding the levels of other PM2.5-bound organic pollutants and their associated health risks. To address this gap, our study comprehensively investigates the spatial and seasonal variations, potential sources, and health risks of PCDD/Fs, Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), and Polychlorinated naphthalene (PCNs) in Northern and Central Taiwan. Sampling collections were conducted at three specific locations, including six municipal waste incinerators in Northern Taiwan, as well as a traffic and an industrial site in Central Taiwan. As a result, the highest mean values of PM2.5 (20.3-39.6 µg/m3) were observed at traffic sites, followed by industrial sites (14.4-39.3 µg/m3), and the vicinity of the municipal waste incinerator (12.4-29.4 µg/m3). Additionally, PCDD/Fs and PCBs exhibited discernible seasonal fluctuations, displaying higher concentrations in winter (7.53-11.9 and 0.09-0.12 fg I-TEQWHO/m3) and spring (7.02-13.7 and 0.11-0.16 fg I-TEQWHO/m3) compared to summer and autumn. Conversely, PCNs displayed no significant seasonal variations, with peak values observed in winter (0.05-0.10 fg I-TEQWHO/m3) and spring (0.03-0.08 fg I-TEQWHO/m3). Utilizing a Positive Matrix Factorization (PMF) model, sintering plants emerged as the predominant contributors to PCDD/Fs, constituting 77.9% of emissions. Woodchip boilers (68.3%) and municipal waste incinerators (21.0%) were identified as primary contributors to PCBs, while municipal waste incinerators (64.6%) along with a secondary copper and a copper sludge smelter (22.1%) were the principal sources of PCNs. Moreover, the study specified that individuals aged 19-70 in Northern Taiwan and those under the age of 12 years in Central Taiwan were found to have a significantly higher cancer risk, with values ranging from 9.26 x 10-9-1.12 x 10-7 and from 2.50 x 10-8-2.08 x 10-7respectively.

BACKGROUND: Our cost-of-illness (COI) model adopted both payer and societal perspectives over a time horizon of 5 years to measure the economic burden of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) in Taiwan. METHODOLOGY: A prevalence-based model was established to estimate the economic consequences of SLE after diagnosis in Taiwan. The model included four health states: (i) the three phenotypes representing mild, moderate, and severe SLE, and (ii) death. The inputs were obtained from a literature review of all the clinical trials and validated using a Delphi panel. The Delphi panel's insights included commonly used treatment strategies for patients with SLE within the Taiwanese healthcare system. The costs mentioned in this model are disease management, monitoring, transient event, and indirect costs. One-way sensitivity analyses were conducted to assess the model uncertainty. RESULTS: The number of patients with SLE in our COI model was 20,189. At diagnosis, the number of SLE patients with mild, moderate, and severe phenotypes was 5,916, 12,255, and 2019, respectively. The total SLE cost in Taiwan over 5 years from both payer and societal perspectives was estimated at TWD 3.9 and 47 billion, respectively. The costs per patient per year from the payer and societal perspective were TWD 38,775 ($2,758) and TWD 466,119 ($33,152), respectively. CONCLUSION: The findings demonstrated that the burden of SLE in Taiwan over a time horizon of 5 years is substantially high, mainly due to the consequences of economic loss as it affects women and men during their working age, in addition to the costs of SLE management and its consequences, such as flares, infection, and organ damage. Therefore, more attention should be paid to limiting the progression of SLE and the occurrence of flares, and further economic evaluations are necessary to assess novel treatment strategies that could control the disease.

The application of statistical models has excellent potential to provide crucial information for mitigating the challenging issue of ozone (O3) pollution by capturing its associations with explanatory variables, including reactive precursors (VOCs and NOX) and meteorology. Considering the large contribution of O3 in degrading the air quality of western Taiwan, three-year (2019-2021) hourly concentration data of VOC, NOX and O3 from 4 monitoring stations of western Taiwan: Tucheng (TC), Zhongming (ZM), Taixi (TX) and Xiaogang (XG), was evaluated to identify the effect of anthropogenic emissions on O3 formation. Owing to the high-ambient reactivity of VOCs on the underestimation of sources, photochemical oxidation was assessed to calculate the consumed VOC (VOCcons) which was followed by the source identification of their initial concentrations. VOCcons was observed to be highest in the summer season (16.7 and 22.7 ppbC) at north (TC and ZM) and in the autumn season (17.8 and 11.4 ppbC) in southward-located stations (TX and XG, respectively). Results showed that VOCs from solvents (25-27%) were the major source at northward stations whereas VOCs-industrial emissions (30%) dominated in south. Furthermore, machine learning (ML): eXtreme Gradient Boost (XGBoost) model based de-weather analysis identified that meteorological factors favor to reduce ambient O3 levels at TC, ZM and XG stations (-67%, -47% and -21%, respectively) but they have a major role in accumulating the O3 (+38%) at the TX station which is primarily transported from the upwind region of south-central Taiwan. Crucial insights using ML outputs showed that the finding of the study can be utilized for region-specific data-driven control of emission from VOCs-sources and prioritized to limit the O3-pollution at the study location-ns as well as their accumulation in distant regions.

Glycidyl esters (GEs) and 3-monochloropropanediol esters (3-MCPDEs) are process contaminants commonly found in refined edible oils which are often added to infant formulas. The Taiwan Food and Drug Administration (TFDA) launched regulations for GEs in infant formulas that went into effect on 1 July 2021. To investigate levels of GEs and 3-MCPDEs in infant formula powder, 45 products were sampled and analysed during 2020-2021. The contents of GEs and 3-MCPDEs in formulas of different brands significantly varied, but their concentrations in all of the formulas complied with European Union (EU) regulations. Infant formulas containing palm oil had significantly higher 3-MCPDE levels in both extracted oils and milk powder than those without palm oil. Concentrations of GEs and 3-MCPDEs in infant formula powder and extracted oils were significantly lower in products from Europe than those from Australia and New Zealand. Infants aged 0-1 years in Taiwan who consumed only infant formula showed a margin of exposure (MoE) exceeding 25,000. Mean consumer exposures to 3-MCPDEs stayed below the tolerable daily intake (TDI), while high exposures at the 95th percentile (P95) exceeded the TDI by 1.7-fold. Herein, we present the changing trends in the risk assessment results of infant formula across various countries in the decade. Implementation of regulations and mitigation strategy effectively reduced the risk of infants being exposed to GEs and 3-MCPDEs through infant formula.

Despite many countries having policies and systems for universal healthcare coverage, health disparity persists, with significant variations in disease prevalence and life expectancy between different groups of people. This focused ethnography explored the post-stroke recovery of Indigenous and non-Indigenous populations in three geographical areas in Taiwan. Forty-eight observations and 24 interviews were carried out with 12 dyads of stroke survivors and family caregivers, revealing their varied experiences of healthcare. Findings indicate that repeatedly engaging in social activities in the same place increases stroke survivors' attachment to the environment, facilitating their reintegration into the community and improving wellbeing following stroke. The significance of 'place' in post-stroke life and healthcare access is particularly salient for Indigenous people's recovery. Indigenous people tend to employ cultural symbols, such as Indigenous languages and kinship ties, to define and interpret their surrounding environment and identity. Indigenous people residing within or close to their own native communities make better recoveries than those based in urban settings, who are attached to and yet located away from their native lands. A sense of place contributes to identity, while loss of it leads to invisibility and healthcare inaccessibility. To promote equitable healthcare access, future policymaking and care practices should address the environmental and cultural geography and structural barriers that impede the connection between minority groups and the mainstream community healthcare system. The study findings suggest extending welfare resources beyond Indigenous administrative regions and establishing partnerships between Indigenous organisations and the mainstream healthcare system. Leveraging Indigenous people's attachment to cultural symbols and increasing healthcare facilities staffed with Indigenous healthcare workers could help ease structural barriers, maintain identifiable Indigenous beneficiaries and increase entry points into the mainstream healthcare system.

This study investigates the connection between nonrenewable energy productivity, renewable energy productivity, and air quality degradation in Taiwan from 2002 to 2019. We specifically emphasize the novel contribution of analyzing the productivity of renewable energy consumption. Robust estimation models, namely Nonlinear Autoregressive Distributed Lag (NARDL) and Robust Standard Estimation, are employed for comprehensive analyses. Our findings reveal a strong correlation between nonrenewable energy productivity and increased air pollutants, highlighting the significant impact of fossil fuels on air quality deterioration. Although renewable energy productivity demonstrates a negative association with air degradation, its effect is not statistically significant. This can be attributed to Taiwan's continued reliance on non-renewable energy sources within the overall energy mix. Hence, reducing dependence on fossil fuels is crucial for improving air quality. Importantly, the identified relationships have long-term implications, underscoring the necessity of persistent policy measures that promote renewable energy transition and emissions reduction over time. Our research emphasizes the urgency of addressing fossil fuel dependency to mitigate air pollution and highlights the potential benefits of enhancing renewable energy efficiency to achieve cleaner and healthier environments.

Cell-based influenza vaccines avoid egg-adaptive mutations, potentially improving vaccine effectiveness. We assessed the one-season cost-effectiveness of cell-based quadrivalent influenza vaccine (QIVc) against that of egg-derived quadrivalent influenza vaccines (QIVe) in children (6 months to 17 years of age) from payer and societal perspectives in Taiwan using an age-stratified static model. Base case and high egg adaptation scenarios were assessed. Deterministic and probabilistic sensitivity analyses were performed. The incremental cost-effectiveness ratio (ICER) threshold in Taiwan was assumed to be USD 99 177/quality-adjusted life year (QALY). Compared to QIVe, QIVc would prevent 15 665 influenza cases, 2244 complicated cases, and 259 hospitalizations per year. The base case ICER was USD 68 298/QALY and USD 40 085/QALY from the payer and societal perspective, respectively. In the high egg adaptation scenario, the ICER was USD 45 782/QALY from the payer's perspective and USD 17 489/QALY from the societal perspective. Deterministic sensitivity analyses indicated that infection incidence rate, vaccination coverage, and prevalence of the A/H3N2 strain were the main drivers of ICER. In conclusion, switching the immunization strategy from QIVe to QIVc is predicted to reduce the influenza-associated disease burden and be cost-effective for the pediatric population in Taiwan. The potential benefits of QIVc would be even higher during influenza seasons with high levels of egg adaptation.

During the early months of life, infant formula plays a crucial role as a primary source of both food and essential nutrients for infants, serving as a replacement for or supplement to breast milk. However, nonessential metals in infant formulas are a concern because infants are highly vulnerable to chemical exposure. The aim of this study was to investigate infant exposure to nonessential metals in infant formula products in Taiwan and assess the associated health risks. In this study, concentrations of arsenic (As), barium (Ba), cadmium (Cd), manganese (Mn), lead (Pb), and vanadium (V) in 45 formula products for 0-1-year-old infants were determined by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry. The mean As, Ba, Cd, Mn, Pb, and V concentrations were 6.42, 280, 3.72, 1425, 20.4, and 21.9 µg/kg, respectively. According to our probabilistic simulation of the estimated daily intake of metals, the proportion of hazard quotients exceeding one was 7.69% for As and 3.29% for Mn, and that of hazard index (HI) values exceeding 1 was >17% for metals. Arsenic had the largest HI contribution (46.9%), followed by Mn (22.3%) and Pb (12.7%). The nonessential metals content in infant formula raises potential noncarcinogenic health concerns for infants in Taiwan. Therefore, regulations for nonessential metals must be imposed on related food products in Taiwan, with a particular focus on As and Mn.

In Taiwan, the Integrated Home Care (IHC) project was introduced for medically compromised patients living at home receiving Home Health Care (HHC) in 2016. The focus of the project was on organizing care teams and managing care for patients. The aim of this study was to investigate the benefits and impacts of IHC in Taiwan. The primary outcome measure was the mortality rate of patients who received IHC versus those who did not receive IHC (non-IHC). The secondary outcomes were medical utilization and expenditure. The results showed that IHC was associated with a statistically significant reduction in mortality compared to non-IHC for home-dwelling patients over 90-, 180-, and 365-days periods. Additionally, IHC users were less likely to be hospitalized and had shorter hospitalization times compared to non-IHC users. Furthermore, IHC was found to reduce medical expenditure compared to non-IHC.
