ABSTRACT

The dysregulation of N6-methyladenosine (m6A) RNA modification is widely recognized for its crucial roles in various diseases, including pulmonary hypertension (PH). Prior studies have highlighted the significant role of methyltransferase-like 3 (METTL3) in the pathogenesis of PH. Nevertheless, the potential and underlying mechanisms of METTL3 and its inhibitors as targets for PH treatment require further elucidation. In this study, we observed increased levels of METTL3 in various rodent models of PH. In vitro studies revealed that METTL3 silencing or treatment with STM2457, a specific METTL3 inhibitor, attenuated the proliferation and migration of pulmonary artery smooth muscle cells stimulated by platelet-derived growth factor-BB or hypoxia. Moreover, in vivo experiments using adeno-associated virus 9-mediated METTL3 silencing or STM2457 inhibition demonstrated improvement in SU5416/hypoxia-induced PH in mice. Additionally, m6A RNA immunoprecipitation analysis identified RBPJ as a gene regulated by METTL3 in rodent models of PH. Loss-of-function studies showed that silencing RBPJ could attenuate the changes in the proliferation and migration of pulmonary artery smooth muscle cells induced by platelet-derived growth factor-BB or hypoxia. Further studies indicated that METTL3 and YTHDF1 regulate RBPJ mRNA expression in an m6A-dependent manner. These findings indicated that targeting METTL3 may be a promising therapeutic strategy for treating PH, and modulation of RBPJ could offer a potential intervention mechanism.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Extrachromosomal circular DNAs (eccDNAs) have been reported to play a key role in the occurrence and development of various diseases. However, the characterization and role of eccDNAs in pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) remain unclear. METHODS: In the discovery cohort, we first explored eccDNA expression profiles by Circle-sequencing analysis. The candidate eccDNAs were validated by routine polymerase chain reaction (PCR), TOPO-TA cloning and Sanger sequencing. In the validation cohort, 30 patients with PAH and 10 healthy controls were recruited for qPCR amplification to detect the candidate eccDNAs. Datas at the baseline were collected, including clinical background, biochemical variables, echocardiography and hemodynamic factors. Receiver operating characteristic curve was used to investigate the diagnostic effect of the eccDNA. RESULTS: We identified a total of 21,741 eccDNAs in plasma samples of 3 IPAH patients and 3 individuals in good health, and the expression frequency, GC content, length distribution, and genome distribution of the eccDNAs were thoroughly characterized and analyzed. In the validation cohort, 687 eccDNAs were differentially expressed in patients with IPAH compared with healthy controls (screening threshold: |FC|≥2 and P < 0.05). Gene Ontology (GO) and the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway analysis showed that the specific eccDNAs in IPAH were significantly enriched in calcium channel activity, the mitogen-activated protein kinase pathway, and the wnt signaling pathway. Verification queue found that the expression of eccDNA-chr2:131208878-131,424,362 in PAH was considerably higher than that in healthy controls and exhibited a high level of accuracy in predicting PAH with a sensitivity of 86.67% and a specificity of 90%. Furthermore, correlation analysis disclosed a significant association between serum eccDNA-chr2:131208878-131,424,362 and mean pulmonary artery pressure (mPAP) (r = 0.396, P = 0.03), 6 min walking distance (6MWD) (r = -0.399, P = 0.029), N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) (r = 0.685, P < 0.001) and cardiac index (CI) (r = - 0.419, P = 0.021). CONCLUSIONS: This is the first study to identify and characterize eccDNAs in patients with PAH. We revealed that serum eccDNA-chr2:131208878-131,424,362 is significantly overexpressed and can be used in the diagnosis of PAH, indicating its potential as a novel non-invasive biomarker.

ABSTRACT

Ten new drimane meroterpenoids talarines A-J (1-10), along with six known analogues (11-16), were isolated from desert soil-derived fungus Talaromyces pinophilus LD-7. Their 2D structures were elucidated by comprehensive interpretation of NMR and HRESIMS data. Electronic circular dichroism calculation was used to establish their absolute configurations. Compounds 2, 10, and 11 showed antiviral activities toward vesicular stomatitis virus with IC50 values of 18, 15, and 23 nM, respectively. The structure-bioactivity relationship indicated that chlorine substitution at C-5 contributed greatly to their antiviral activities. Finally, we identified a new halogenase outside the biosynthetic gene cluster, which was responsible for C-5 halogenation of the precursor isocoumarin 17 as a tailoring step in chlorinated meroterpenoids assembly.

ABSTRACT

Diketopiperazine alkaloids have proven the most abundant heterocyclic alkaloids up to now, which usually process diverse scaffolds and rich biological activities. In our search for bioactive diketopiperazine alkaloids from marine-derived fungi, two novel diketopiperazine alkaloids, penipiperazine A (1) and its biogenetically related new metabolite (2), together with a known analogue neofipiperzine C (3), were obtained from the strain Penicillium brasilianum. Their planar structures and absolute configurations were elucidated by extensive spectroscopic analyses, 13C NMR calculation, Marfey's, ECD, and ORD methods. Compound 1 featured a unique 6/5/6/6/5 indole-pyrazino-pyrazino-pyrrolo system, and its plausible biogenetic pathway was also proposed. Additionally, compounds 1-3 have been tested for their inflammatory activities. 1 and 2 significantly inhibited the release of NO and the expression of related pro-inflammatory cytokines on LPS-stimulated RAW264.7 cells, suggesting they could be attracting candidate for further development as anti-inflammatory agent. ABSTRACT

Sequence compositions of nucleic acids and proteins have significant impact on gene expression, RNA stability, translation efficiency, RNA/protein structure and molecular function, and are associated with genome evolution and adaptation across all kingdoms of life. Therefore, a devoted resource of sequence compositions and associated features is fundamentally crucial for a wide range of biological research. Here, we present CompoDynamics (https://ngdc.cncb.ac.cn/compodynamics/), a comprehensive database of sequence compositions of coding sequences (CDSs) and genomes for all kinds of species. Taking advantage of the exponential growth of RefSeq data, CompoDynamics presents a wealth of sequence compositions (nucleotide content, codon usage, amino acid usage) and derived features (coding potential, physicochemical property and phase separation) for 118 689 747 high-quality CDSs and 34 562 genomes across 24 995 species. Additionally, interactive analytical tools are provided to enable comparative analyses of sequence compositions and molecular features across different species and gene groups. Collectively, CompoDynamics bears the great potential to better understand the underlying roles of sequence composition dynamics across genes and genomes, providing a fundamental resource in support of a broad spectrum of biological studies.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: During laparoscopic left hemicolectomy procedures, a previously overlooked consistently thick blood vessel within the gastrocolic ligament near the splenic hilum may contribute to post-operative bleeding complications. The purpose of this study was to investigate the identification and management of the previously overlooked blood vessel. METHODS: This is a retrospective descriptive study of patients undergoing laparoscopic left colectomy for splenic fexure cancer conducted at a national gastrointestinal surgery centre in China. Consecutive patients with splenic fexure cancer who underwent laparoscopic left colectomy using our"five-step process"(n = 34) between January 2021 and July 2023 were included. RESULTS: The vessels can be effectively exposed using the aforementioned "five-step process." It was observed that the overlooked vessels consistently present in all patients were identified as the omental branch of the left gastroepiploic artery and vein. CONCLUSION: We have identified the origin of previously overlooked blood vessels and recommended a safe method for their management. This may offer advantages to colorectal surgeons performing laparoscopic left colectomy for splenic flexure cancer.

ABSTRACT

The main aim of this study was to utilize remote sensing data to establish regression models through machine learning to predict locust density in the upcoming year. First, a dataset for monitoring grassland locust density was constructed based on meteorological data and multi-source remote sensing data in the study area. Subsequently, an SVR (support vector regression) model, BP neural network regression model, random forest regression model, BP neural network regression model with the PCA (principal component analysis), and deep belief network regression model were built on the dataset. The experimental results show that the random forest regression model had the best prediction performance among the five models. Specifically, the model achieved a coefficient of determination (R2) of 0.9685 and a root mean square error (RMSE) of 1.0144 on the test set, which were the optimal values achieved among all the models tested. Finally, the locust density in the study area for 2023 was predicted and, by comparing the predicted results with actual measured data, it was found that the prediction accuracy was high. This is of great significance for local grassland ecological management, disaster warning, scientific decision-making support, scientific research progress, and sustainable agricultural development.

We have accomplished the first and asymmetric total synthesis of principinol B, a grayanoid possessing an oxabicyclo[3.2.1] architecture. A functionalized 5/7/6/5 tetracyclic intermediate was assembled in a convergent manner by a diastereoselective intermolecular aldol reaction and subsequent carbonyl-olefin metathesis of two enantiomerically enriched fragments. The oxabicyclo[3.2.1] architecture containing a 6,10-ether bridge was constructed by the Williamson ether synthesis.

BACKGROUND: This study aims to investigate whether indocyanine green (ICG) tumor imaging helps determine the safe surgical margin in laparoscopic hepatectomy. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Eighty-six patients with hepatic malignancies [including hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and colorectal liver metastasis (CRLM)] were included in this study. ICG-R15 testing was performed 5-7 days before surgery. Fluorescence staining of the tumor was detected by a fluorescent laparoscope, and the width of fluorescence band surrounding tumor was measured by an electronic vernier caliper. RESULTS: The positive rate of hepatic malignant lesions successfully stained by ICG fluorescence was 96.0% (95/99). HCC with better differentiation demonstrated non-rim fluorescence patterns, while cases with poor differentiation demonstrated rim patterns. CRLM uniformly demonstrated rim pattern. The width of fluorescence surrounding tumors was 0 in HCC with non-rim patterns. The minimum width of fluorescence surrounding tumors in poor differentiated HCC and CRLM were 2.4 ± 1.9 mm and 2.8 ± 2.5 mm, respectively, with no significant difference (P > 0.05). ICG fluorescence imaging revealed eight small lesions, which were not detected preoperatively in seven patients, of which five lesions were confirmed as malignancies by pathology. CONCLUSIONS: Resection along the ICG fluorescence edge can supply a safe surgical margin only for CRLM, but not for HCC. Otherwise, ICG fluorescence tumor imaging can preliminarily determine the pathological type of hepatic malignancies and histological differentiation of HCC and help detect small lesions that cannot be detected preoperatively.

ABSTRACT

We demonstrate ultra-broadband spectral combining of ultrashort pulses from Yb-doped fiber amplifiers, with coherently spectrally synthesized pulse shaping, to achieve tens-of-fs pulses. This method can fully compensate for gain narrowing and high order dispersion over broad bandwidth. We produce 42fs pulses by spectrally synthesizing three chirped-pulse fiber amplifiers and two programmable pulse shapers across an 80nm overall bandwidth. To the best of our knowledge, this is the shortest pulse duration achieved from a spectrally combined fiber system at one-micron wavelength. This work provides a path toward high-energy, tens-of-fs fiber chirped-pulse amplification systems.

STUDY QUESTION: Is dietary total antioxidant capacity (DTAC) associated with the odds of developing asthenozoospermia in Chinese men? SUMMARY ANSWER: There is no statistically significant association between DTAC indices and the odds of developing asthenozoospermia. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY: Both diet and oxidative stress may be related to sperm quality; however, few studies have investigated the association between DTAC and sperm quality. STUDY DESIGN, SIZE, DURATION: This case-control study was conducted from June 2020 to December 2020. Those diagnosed with asthenozoospermia were assigned to the case group, whereas those with normal sperm parameters were assigned to the control group. Data from a total of 553 cases and 586 controls were included in the final analysis. PARTICIPANTS/MATERIALS, SETTING, METHODS: Men who had been referred to the infertility clinic of Shengjing Hospital of China Medical University were enrolled. Dietary intake was assessed using a validated food frequency questionnaire. DTAC was based on ferric-reducing ability of plasma (FRAP), total oxygen radical absorbance capacity (T-ORAC), hydrophilic oxygen radical absorbance capacity (H-ORAC), lipophilic oxygen radical absorbance capacity (L-ORAC), total phenolics (TP), total radical-trapping antioxidant parameter (TRAP), and Trolox equivalent antioxidant capacity (TEAC). Asthenozoospermia was defined according to the criteria published in the fifth edition of the World Health Organization laboratory manual for the examination and processing of human semen. MAIN RESULTS AND THE ROLE OF CHANCE: No significant association was observed between the DTAC indices and the odds of asthenozoospermia after multivariable adjustment (T3 vs T1, odds ratio (OR) = 0.99, 95% CI: 0.73-1.33 for FRAP; OR = 1.05, 95% CI: 0.77-1.42 for T-ORAC; OR = 0.88, 95% CI: 0.65-1.18 for H-ORAC; OR = 0.98, 95% CI: 0.71-1.34 for L-ORAC; OR = 1.03, 95% CI: 0.76-1.39 for TP; OR = 1.18, 95% CI: 0.87-1.59 for TRAP; and OR = 1.15, 95% CI: 0.85-1.55 for TEAC). Both additive and multiplicative interaction analyses suggested that smoking might modify the association of T-ORAC with the odds of developing asthenozoospermia (relative excess risk due to interaction = 0.45, 95% CI: 0.07-0.83, attributable proportion due to interaction = 0.46, 95% CI: 0.07-0.84 for additive interaction; P = 0.033 for multiplicative interaction). LIMITATIONS, REASONS FOR CAUTION: Recall bias and protopathic bias were inevitable in this retrospective case-control study. The estimation accuracy of the DTAC indices may have also affected the findings. WIDER IMPLICATIONS OF THE FINDINGS: To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study to specifically investigate whether an association exists between DTAC and the odds of developing asthenozoospermia. Although no significant association was found, this study provides novel information pertaining to the fields of nutrition and human reproduction. ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the correlation between histogram parameters derived from synthetic magnetic resonance imaging (SyMRI) and prognostically relevant factors in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). METHODS: Fifty-nine consecutive NPC patients were prospectively enrolled. Quantitative parameters (T1, T2, and proton density (PD)) were obtained by outlining the three-dimensional volume of interest (VOI) of all lesions. Then, histogram analysis of these quantitative parameters was performed and the correlations with prognostically relevant factors were assessed. By choosing appropriate cutoff, we divided the sample into two groups. Independent-samples t test/Mann-Whitney U test was used and ROC curve analysis was further processed. RESULTS: Histogram parameters of the T1, T2, and PD maps were positively correlated with the Ki-67 expression levels, and PD_mean was the most representative parameter (AUC: 0.861). The PD map exhibited good performance in differentiating epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) expression levels (AUC: 0.706~0.732) and histological type (AUC: 0.650~0.660). T2_minimum was highest correlated with Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) DNA levels (r = - 0.419), and PD_75th percentile exhibited the highest performance in distinguishing positive and negative EBV DNA groups (AUC: 0.721). T1_minimum was statistically correlated with EA-IgA expression (r = - 0.313). Additionally, several histogram parameters were negatively correlated with tumor stage (T stage: r = - 0.259 ~ - 0.301; N stage: r = - 0.348 ~ - 0.456; clinical stage: r = - 0.419). CONCLUSIONS: Histogram parameters of SyMRI could reflect tissue intrinsic characteristics and showed potential value in assessing the Ki-67 and EGFR expression levels, histological type, EBV DNA level, EA-IgA, and tumor stage. KEY POINTS: • SyMRI combined with histogram analysis may help clinicians to assess different prognostic factor statuses in nasopharyngeal carcinoma. • The PD map exhibited good discriminating performance in the Ki-67 and EGFR expression levels. • Histogram parameters of SyMRI were negatively correlated with EBV-related blood biomarkers and TNM stage.

ABSTRACT

The present study aimed to evaluate the effects of dietary TPs on growth performance, intestinal digestion, microflora and immunity in juvenile hybrid sturgeon. A total of 450 fish (97.20 ± 0.18 g) were randomly divided into a standard diet (TP-0) or four treatments consisting of a standard diet supplemented with four concentrations of TPs (mg/kg): 100 (TP-100), 300 (TP-300), 500 (TP-500), and 1000 (TP-1000) for 56 days. The TP-300 significantly increased weight gain rate (WGR) and specific growth rate (SGR) (p < 0.05), and TP-1000 significantly increased the feed conversion ratio (FCR) (p < 0.05). TP-300 and TP-500 significantly increased intestinal trypsin, amylase, and lipase activities (p < 0.05). Besides, TP-300 significantly enhanced total antioxidant capacity (T-AOC) and the levels of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), and glutathione (GSH) and decreased malondialdehyde (MDA) content (p < 0.05). Moreover, TP-300 decreased the expression levels of tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), interleukin 8 (IL-8), and interleukin 1ß(IL-1ß) compared with TP-0 and TP-1000 (p < 0.05). In addition, the intestinal microbiota diversity in the TP-300 group was observably higher, the dominant microbiota was Bacteroidota, Cyanobacteria, Proteobacteria and Firmicutes at the phylum level, Enterobacteriaceae, Nostocaceae and Clostridiaceae at the family level. The relative abundances of potential probiotics including Rhodobacteraceae and potential pathogens especially Clostridiaceae were the highest, and lowest, respectively. In conclusion, TP-300 altered the abundance of microbial taxa, resulting in enhancing the intestinal digestion, antioxidant status and non-specific immunity to improve the growth performance in juvenile hybrid sturgeon.

ABSTRACT

Co-culturing the marine-derived fungi Penicillium janthinellium with Paecilomyces formosus led to the isolation of nine new indole-diterpenes, janthinellumines A-I (1-9), along with twelve known analogues (10-21). The chemical structures including their absolute configurations of them were assigned by the analysis of extensive spectroscopic data and calculated ECD and VCD methods. These indole-diterpenoids displayed extensive biological activities, including anti-influenza A virus, protein tyrosine phosphatase (PTP) inhibitory, and anti-Vibrio activities. Among them, the anti-influenza mechanism of compounds 1, 2, and 7 was further investigated using neuraminidase inhibitory assay, molecular docking, and reverse genetics methods, suggesting that 1, 2, and 7 could interact with Arg371 of the viral neuraminidase. ABSTRACT

Expression profiles of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) across diverse biological conditions provide significant insights into their biological functions, interacting targets as well as transcriptional reliability. However, there lacks a comprehensive resource that systematically characterizes the expression landscape of human lncRNAs by integrating their expression profiles across a wide range of biological conditions. Here, we present LncExpDB (https://bigd.big.ac.cn/lncexpdb), an expression database of human lncRNAs that is devoted to providing comprehensive expression profiles of lncRNA genes, exploring their expression features and capacities, identifying featured genes with potentially important functions, and building interactions with protein-coding genes across various biological contexts/conditions. Based on comprehensive integration and stringent curation, LncExpDB currently houses expression profiles of 101 293 high-quality human lncRNA genes derived from 1977 samples of 337 biological conditions across nine biological contexts. Consequently, LncExpDB estimates lncRNA genes' expression reliability and capacities, identifies 25 191 featured genes, and further obtains 28 443 865 lncRNA-mRNA interactions. Moreover, user-friendly web interfaces enable interactive visualization of expression profiles across various conditions and easy exploration of featured lncRNAs and their interacting partners in specific contexts. Collectively, LncExpDB features comprehensive integration and curation of lncRNA expression profiles and thus will serve as a fundamental resource for functional studies on human lncRNAs.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Radiological prediction of microvascular invasion (MVI) of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is essential but few models were clinically implemented because of limited interpretability and generalizability. METHODS: Based on 2096 patients in three independent HCC cohorts, we established and validated an MVI predicting model. First, we used data from the primary cohort to train a 3D-ResNet network for MVI prediction and then optimised the model with "expert-inspired training" for model construction. Second, we implemented the model to the other two cohorts using three implementation strategies, the original model implementation, data sharing model implementation and skeleton sharing model implementation, the latter two of which used part of the cohorts' data for fine-tuning. The areas under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUCs) were calculated to compare the performances of different models. RESULTS: For the MVI predicting model, the AUC of the expert-inspired model was 0.83 (95% CI: 0.77-0.88) compared to 0.54 (95% CI: 0.46-0.62) of model before expert-inspiring. Taking this model as an original model, AUC on the second cohort was 0.76 (95% CI: 0.67-0.84). The AUC was improved to 0.83 (95% CI: 0.77-0.90) with the data-sharing model, and further improved to 0.85 (95% CI: 0.79-0.92) with the skeleton sharing model. The trend that the skeleton sharing model had an advantage in performance was similar in the third cohort. CONCLUSIONS: We established an expert-inspired model with better predictive performance and interpretability than the traditional constructed model. Skeleton sharing process is superior to data sharing and direct model implementation in model implementation.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Main challenges for COVID-19 include the lack of a rapid diagnostic test, a suitable tool to monitor and predict a patient's clinical course and an efficient way for data sharing among multicenters. We thus developed a novel artificial intelligence system based on deep learning (DL) and federated learning (FL) for the diagnosis, monitoring, and prediction of a patient's clinical course. METHODS: CT imaging derived from 6 different multicenter cohorts were used for stepwise diagnostic algorithm to diagnose COVID-19, with or without clinical data. Patients with more than 3 consecutive CT images were trained for the monitoring algorithm. FL has been applied for decentralized refinement of independently built DL models. RESULTS: A total of 1,552,988 CT slices from 4804 patients were used. The model can diagnose COVID-19 based on CT alone with the AUC being 0.98 (95% CI 0.97-0.99), and outperforms the radiologist's assessment. We have also successfully tested the incorporation of the DL diagnostic model with the FL framework. Its auto-segmentation analyses co-related well with those by radiologists and achieved a high Dice's coefficient of 0.77. It can produce a predictive curve of a patient's clinical course if serial CT assessments are available. INTERPRETATION: The system has high consistency in diagnosing COVID-19 based on CT, with or without clinical data. Alternatively, it can be implemented on a FL platform, which would potentially encourage the data sharing in the future. It also can produce an objective predictive curve of a patient's clinical course for visualization. KEY POINTS: • CoviDet could diagnose COVID-19 based on chest CT with high consistency; this outperformed the radiologist's assessment. Its auto-segmentation analyses co-related well with those by radiologists and could potentially monitor and predict a patient's clinical course if serial CT assessments are available. It can be integrated into the federated learning framework. • CoviDet can be used as an adjunct to aid clinicians with the CT diagnosis of COVID-19 and can potentially be used for disease monitoring; federated learning can potentially open opportunities for global collaboration.

BACKGROUND: Pulmonary veno-occlusive disease (PVOD) is a rare, progressive, and oft-fatal condition of pulmonary arterial hypertension that is typically difficult to diagnose and treat. However, with the development of next-generation sequencing technology, an increasing number of patients with PVOD are being diagnosed. METHODS: Initially, we used whole exome sequencing (WES) to identify the proband as a rare compound heterozygous mutation of EIF2AK4 in PVOD. Subsequently, the parents of patient underwent EIF2AK4 screening by Sanger sequencing. RESULTS: In this study, we describe the family tree of a patient with PVOD with a rare compound heterozygous EIF2AK4 mutation. Moreover, we identified a new EIF2AK4 mutation, c.2236_2237insAAGTCCTTCT, in exon 12 of the proband and his mother. This frameshift mutation led to premature termination of the coding protein sequence and widespread loss of protein function, which promoted the development of PVOD. CONCLUSIONS: Our results expand our understanding of the EIF2AK4 mutation spectrum in patients with PVOD, as well as highlight the clinical applicability of WES.

BACKGROUND: Cone-beam breast computed tomography (CBBCT) and digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) remain the main 3D modalities for X-ray breast imaging. This study aimed to systematically evaluate and meta-analyze the comparison of diagnostic accuracy of CBBCT and DBT to characterize breast cancers. METHODS: Two independent reviewers identified screening on diagnostic studies from 1 January 2015 to 30 December 2021, with at least reported sensitivity and specificity for both CBBCT and DBT. A univariate pooled meta-analysis was performed using the random-effects model to estimate the sensitivity and specificity while other diagnostic parameters like the area under the ROC curve (AUC), positive likelihood ratio (LR+), and negative likelihood ratio (LR-) were estimated using the bivariate model. RESULTS: The pooled sensitivity specificity, LR+ and LR- and AUC at 95% confidence interval are 86.7% (80.3-91.2), 87.0% (79.9-91.8), 6.28 (4.40-8.96), 0.17 (0.12-0.25) and 0.925 for the 17 included studies in DBT arm, respectively, while, 83.7% (54.6-95.7), 71.3% (47.5-87.2), 2.71 (1.39-5.29), 0.20 (0.04-1.05), and 0.831 are the pooled sensitivity specificity, LR+ and LR- and AUC for the five studies in the CBBCT arm, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: Our study demonstrates that DBT shows improved diagnostic performance over CBBCT regarding all estimated diagnostic parameters; with the statistical improvement in the AUC of DBT over CBBCT. The CBBCT might be a useful modality for breast cancer detection, thus we recommend more prospective studies on CBBCT application.
