ABSTRACT

The identification and correction of negative factors, such as 4-ethylphenol and ethanethiol, is important to comply with food safety regulations and avoid economic losses to wineries. A simple amperometric measurement procedure that facilitates the simultaneous quantification of both compounds in the gas phase has been developed using fullerene and cobalt (II) phthalocyanine-modified dual screen-printed electrodes coated with a room temperature ionic liquid-based gel polymer electrolyte. The replacement of the typical aqueous supporting electrolyte by low-volatility ones improves both operational and storage lifetime. Under the optimum conditions of the experimental variables, Britton Robinson buffer pH 5 and applied potentials of + 0.86 V and + 0.40 V for each working electrode (vs. Ag ref. electrode), reproducibility values of 7.6% (n = 3) for 4-ethylphenol and 6.6% (n = 3) for ethanethiol were obtained, as well as capability of detection values of 23.8 µg/L and decision limits of 1.3 µg/L and 9.2 µg/L (α = ß = 0.05), respectively. These dual electrochemical devices have successfully been applied to the headspace detection of both compounds in white and red wines, showing their potential to be routinely used for rapid analysis control in wineries.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: A tension empyema, in which purulent material accumulates in the chest cavity and leads to cardiopulmonary dysfunction, is a rare complication of empyemas. Moreover, fungal empyemas that grow Candida albicans and cause tension physiology have not yet been previously described. Case Report: In this report, we present an immunocompetent 30-year-old male who presented to the emergency department with worsening shortness of breath and was found to have a left-sided fungal empyema causing tension physiology. Left chest thoracostomy yielded approximately 4 liters of purulent fluid. Pleural cultures eventually grew C albicans, and after antifungal therapy, surgical decortication of the lung, and a prolonged intensive care unit stay, the patient was discharged home in stable condition. Conclusion: While mortality from C albicans empyemas that cause respiratory compromise is exceedingly high, our case highlights that aggressive management with rapid chest thoracostomy and antifungal therapy can lead to a favorable outcome.

ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION: The Gerbode defect is an infrequent cardiac anomaly, with an incidence below 1 % in current worldwide literature. It consists of a communication between the left ventricle and right atrium in the membranous septum with consequential hemodynamical and structural heart changes and can present as either congenital or acquired. The concomitant affectation of the tricuspid valve poses its difficulty as a diagnostic and therapeutical challenge. PRESENTATION OF CASE: This case report presents a 27-year-old patient with an incidental finding of congenital Gerbode defect with hemodynamical repercussion during surgical treatment for multidisciplinary management in the context of open thoracic trauma. DISCUSSION: This defect has been infrequently described in the literature, and although several classification methods have been proposed, its diagnosis is challenging and must be considered when faced with nonspecific cardiac systems. CONCLUSION: It reports an infrequent congenital heart defect posing as traumatic or postoperative, generating a challenging diagnosis and successful surgical treatment given to the patient using a multidisciplinary approach to further broaden scientific literature on such an underrepresented pathology.

ABSTRACT

Choroidal osteoma is a rare condition, and its treatment is not well established, especially in the pediatric population, where use of antiangiogenics for choroidal neovascularization is poorly studied. Few studies have reported the long-term follow-up of pediatric patients with bilateral choroidal osteomas. We report the case of a girl who was diagnosed at the age of 3, with the appearance of bilateral secondary choroidal neovascularization, and has been under strict observation for 12 years. The effectiveness of antiangiogenic agents as a long-term therapeutic option for secondary choroidal neovascularization in pediatric patients with symptomatic choroidal osteomas is discussed.

ABSTRACT

A 50-year-old man presented with poorly controlled new-onset diabetes mellitus. Six months after diagnosis, episodes of intense abdominal pain with vomiting appeared. Abdominal CT revealed signs of acute pancreatitis with structural changes in the pseudocysts. In the absence of biliary lithiasis or a toxic etiology of acute pancreatitis, the patient progressed unfavorably with increased abdominal pain and fever. Control imaging tests (two and 10 months later) showed the evolution of phlegmonous/necrotic collections, together with portal vein thrombosis and splenomegaly. Given the suggestive signs of possible occult malignancy, such as portal thrombosis, histological analysis of the ascitic fluid revealed a pancreatic adenocarcinoma. Despite the initiation of chemotherapy, the patient died 12 months after diagnosis.

ABSTRACT

4-ethylphenol and 4-ethylguaicol levels in wine are associated to organoleptic defects that cause consumer rejection accompanied by significant economic losses for producers. Thus, electrochemical sensors based on screen-printed carbon electrodes (SPCEs) modified with activated fullerene C60 (AC60) have been developed for the analysis of both phenols by direct headspace amperometric measurements. Upon optimization of the experimental variables affecting the sensors performance, the AC60/SPCE sensors presented linearity ranges from 9.9 to 65.4 µg/L and from 19.6 to 107.1 µg/L for 4-ethylphenol and 4-ethylguaicol, respectively. The achieved detection capacities were 10.3 µg/L (4-ethylphenol) and 19.6 µg/L (4-ethylguaicol), with a reproducibility of 6.3 % and 9.1 % (n = 3), respectively. In addition, dual-working AC60/SPCE devices were developed for the simultaneous analysis of both phenols using different working potentials for each electrode. The dual systems were successfully applied in the analysis of different spiked wine samples, obtaining good recoveries ranging from 94 to 108 %.

ABSTRACT

The transition from fins to limbs has been a rich source of discussion for more than a century. One open and important issue is understanding how the mechanisms that pattern digits arose during vertebrate evolution. In this context, the analysis of Hox gene expression and functions to infer evolutionary scenarios has been a productive approach to explain the changes in organ formation, particularly in limbs. In tetrapods, the transcription of Hoxd genes in developing digits depends on a well-characterized set of enhancers forming a large regulatory landscape1,2. This control system has a syntenic counterpart in zebrafish, even though they lack bona fide digits, suggestive of deep homology3 between distal fin and limb developmental mechanisms. We tested the global function of this landscape to assess ancestry and source of limb and fin variation. In contrast to results in mice, we show here that the deletion of the homologous control region in zebrafish has a limited effect on the transcription of hoxd genes during fin development. However, it fully abrogates hoxd expression within the developing cloaca, an ancestral structure related to the mammalian urogenital sinus. We show that similar to the limb, Hoxd gene function in the urogenital sinus of the mouse also depends on enhancers located in this same genomic domain. Thus, we conclude that the current regulation underlying Hoxd gene expression in distal limbs was co-opted in tetrapods from a preexisting cloacal program. The orthologous chromatin domain in fishes may illustrate a rudimentary or partial step in this evolutionary co-option.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: A recent paradigm shift in proarrhythmic risk assessment suggests that the integration of clinical, non-clinical, and computational evidence can be used to reach a comprehensive understanding of the proarrhythmic potential of drug candidates. While current computational methodologies focus on predicting the incidence of proarrhythmic events after drug administration, the objective of this study is to predict concentration-response relationships of QTc as a clinical endpoint. EXPERIMENTAL APPROACH: Full heart computational models reproducing human cardiac populations were created to predict the concentration-response relationship of changes in the QT interval as recommended for clinical trials. The concentration-response relationship of the QT-interval prolongation obtained from the computational cardiac population was compared against the relationship from clinical trial data for a set of well-characterized compounds: moxifloxacin, dofetilide, verapamil, and ondansetron. KEY RESULTS: Computationally derived concentration-response relationships of QT interval changes for three of the four drugs had slopes within the confidence interval of clinical trials (dofetilide, moxifloxacin and verapamil) when compared to placebo-corrected concentration-ΔQT and concentration-ΔQT regressions. Moxifloxacin showed a higher intercept, outside the confidence interval of the clinical data, demonstrating that in this example, the standard linear regression does not appropriately capture the concentration-response results at very low concentrations. The concentrations corresponding to a mean QTc prolongation of 10 ms were consistently lower in the computational model than in clinical data. The critical concentration varied within an approximate ratio of 0.5 (moxifloxacin and ondansetron) and 1 times (dofetilide, verapamil) the critical concentration observed in human clinical trials. Notably, no other in silico methodology can approximate the human critical concentration values for a QT interval prolongation of 10 ms. CONCLUSION AND IMPLICATIONS: Computational concentration-response modelling of a virtual population of high-resolution, 3-dimensional cardiac models can provide comparable information to clinical data and could be used to complement pre-clinical and clinical safety packages. It provides access to an unlimited exposure range to support trial design and can improve the understanding of pre-clinical-clinical translation.

ABSTRACT

Multitarget ligands (MTLs) have emerged as an interesting alternative for addressing complex multifactorial pathologies such as neurodegenerative diseases. However, a common challenge associated with these compounds is often their high molecular weight and low solubility, which becomes a hurdle when trying to permeate over the blood-brain barrier (BBB). In this study, we have designed two new MTLs that modulate three pharmacological targets simultaneously (tau, beta-amyloid and TAR DNA-binding protein 43). To enhance their brain penetration, we have formulated organic polymeric nanoparticles using poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid). The characterization of the formulations, evaluation of their permeability through an in vitro BBB model, and assessment of their activity on disease-representative cellular models, such as Alzheimer's disease and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, have been conducted. The results demonstrate the potential of the new MTLs and their nanoparticle encapsulation for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases.

BACKGROUND: Research utilization and evidence-based practice (EBP) in occupational therapy rely on essential scientific skills. Despite prior research exploring factors influencing EBP, a gap remains in understanding the specific scientific competencies crucial for effective EBP application. OBJECTIVES: To (1) describe the level of scientific skills for EBP and research application, and (2) investigate the factors influencing higher scientific competence among 1159 Spanish-speaking occupational therapists. MATERIAL AND METHODS: We assessed the scientific skills using the HACTO-Screen online survey. Recruitment was conducted through a non-probability convenience sampling method between April to June 2020, using social networks and email dissemination to education and professional organizations in Spain and Spanish-speaking Latin American countries. RESULTS: Out of a total score of 115 points, participants showed a moderate level of scientific skills (mean: 62.7, SD: 21.6), with literature searching skills ranking the highest and scientific writing skills ranking the lowest. Associations were found between greater scientific competence and advanced degrees, ongoing research training, and on-the-job research. CONCLUSIONS: Continuous research training, higher academic degrees, and active research engagement are essential for enhancing scientific competence among occupational therapists. SIGNIFICANCE: Targeted training to enhance scientific skills and promote research utilization are crucial in advancing EBP in occupational therapy.

BACKGROUND: Artisanal cheeses usually contain a highly diverse microbial community which can significantly impact their quality and safety. Here, we describe a detailed longitudinal study assessing the impact of ripening in three natural caves on the microbiome and resistome succession across three different producers of Cabrales blue-veined cheese. RESULTS: Both the producer and cave in which cheeses were ripened significantly influenced the cheese microbiome. Lactococcus and the former Lactobacillus genus, among other taxa, showed high abundance in cheeses at initial stages of ripening, either coming from the raw material, starter culture used, and/or the environment of processing plants. Along cheese ripening in caves, these taxa were displaced by other bacteria, such as Tetragenococcus, Corynebacterium, Brevibacterium, Yaniella, and Staphylococcus, predominantly originating from cave environments (mainly food contact surfaces), as demonstrated by source-tracking analysis, strain analysis at read level, and the characterization of 613 metagenome-assembled genomes. The high abundance of Tetragenococcus koreensis and Tetragenococcus halophilus detected in cheese has not been found previously in cheese metagenomes. Furthermore, Tetragenococcus showed a high level of horizontal gene transfer with other members of the cheese microbiome, mainly with Lactococcus and Staphylococcus, involving genes related to carbohydrate metabolism functions. The resistome analysis revealed that raw milk and the associated processing environments are a rich reservoir of antimicrobial resistance determinants, mainly associated with resistance to aminoglycosides, tetracyclines, and ß-lactam antibiotics and harbored by aerobic gram-negative bacteria of high relevance from a safety point of view, such as Escherichia coli, Salmonella enterica, Acinetobacter, and Klebsiella pneumoniae, and that the displacement of most raw milk-associated taxa by cave-associated taxa during ripening gave rise to a significant decrease in the load of ARGs and, therefore, to a safer end product. CONCLUSION: Overall, the cave environments represented an important source of non-starter microorganisms which may play a relevant role in the quality and safety of the end products. Among them, we have identified novel taxa and taxa not previously regarded as being dominant components of the cheese microbiome (Tetragenococcus spp.), providing very valuable information for the authentication of this protected designation of origin artisanal cheese. ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: The aim is to examine whether the addition of Virtual Reality (VR) meditation training to a standard 8-week Mindfulness-Based Health Care Program (MBHC-VR) results in a significantly increased improvement in occupational, mental health, and psychological functioning versus MBHC-only in university students. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A randomized controlled clinical trial with three arms (MBHC, MBHC-VR, Control Group), four assessment time points (pre-intervention, inter-session, post-intervention, and 3-month follow-up), and mixed methodology will be proposed. University students (undergraduate, master, or doctoral) interested in participating and who meet the inclusion/exclusion criteria will be included over two years. Data will be collected from different ad hoc questionnaires, several standardized tests, and an Ecological Momentary Assessment. We will use R software to carry out descriptive analyses (univariate and bivariate), multilevel modeling, and structural equation models to respond to the proposed objective. The qualitative analysis will be carried out using the MAXQDA program and the technique of focus groups. DISCUSSION: It is expected that with the proposed intervention university students will learn to relate in a healthier way with their mental processes, so as to improve their occupational balance (OB) and their psychological well-being. INTRODUCCIÓN: El entorno escolar juega un rol importante para prevenir la malnutrición en la infancia. El objetivo fue evaluar la disponibilidad de agua potable en la cocina, la oferta durante el almuerzo y la jornada escolar y la presencia de kioscos en escuelas públicas de la provincia de Buenos Aires según prestación alimentaria y necesidades básicas insatisfechas (NBI). MÉTODOS: Se realizó un análisis post hoc de la Encuesta del Servicio Alimentario Escolar 2016-2019 de una muestra de 3342 escuelas iniciales, primarias y secundarias. Se evaluó el suministro de agua en la cocina, las fuentes de agua potable para los alumnos, la bebida en el almuerzo y la disponibilidad de kiosco. Las variables se analizaron por nivel educativo y se estratificaron según la prestación alimentaria. Se realizó un análisis estadístico descriptivo. RESULTADOS: Alrededor del 1% (n=30) de las escuelas no contaban con agua potable en la cocina, y no se observaron diferencias porcentuales por prestación ni tertil de NBI. El 10% de las escuelas no ofrecía bebida en el almuerzo, y 7 de cada 10 no disponía de fuente de agua potable accesible; 4 de cada 10 primarias y secundarias presentaron kiosco. Al evaluar según NBI, la proporción de escuelas con kiosco decrecía a medida que aumentaba el tertil. DISCUSIÓN: Es fundamental generar políticas de regulación del entorno escolar con un enfoque integral y sistémico para prevenir la malnutrición en la población infantil más vulnerable.

Introducción. Uno de los principales desafíos para la primera infancia es brindar cuidados adecuados que reduzcan desigualdades y promuevan desarrollo infantil temprano (DIT). El objetivo del trabajo fue describir relaciones entre los cuidados que reciben niños y niñas de 3 y 4 años, según el marco para el cuidado cariñoso y sensible (NC, por sus siglas en inglés), y sus niveles de DIT en Argentina, considerando región y quintiles de riqueza. Población y métodos. Estudio analítico observacional de corte transversal, a partir de las bases de datos de la Encuesta Nacional de Niñas, Niños y Adolescentes (MICS) Argentina 2019-2020. Se seleccionaron 11 indicadores de NC y se estimó el nivel de DIT utilizando el Índice de Desarrollo Infantil Temprano (ECDI) para un análisis estadístico descriptivo. Resultados. En 2638 niños y niñas de 3 y 4 años evaluados, el promedio de acceso a indicadores de cuidados fue del 79,1 %; el acceso fue alto en 7 indicadores (entre el 84,2 % y el 97,9 %) y medio en 4 (entre el 46,9 % y el 65,1 %); la mayor frecuencia fue contar con registro de nacimiento (97,9 %) y la menor, la cobertura de seguro de salud (46,9 %). El 87,9 % alcanzó niveles adecuados de ECDI. Los resultados registran diferencias según quintiles de riqueza y regiones. Conclusiones. Los resultados evidencian desigualdades de acceso a cuidados y en DIT adecuado de niños y niñas de 3 y 4 años de áreas urbanas de Argentina según la región donde viven y el nivel de riqueza de sus hogares.


Introduction. One of the main challenges for early childhood is to provide adequate care to reduce inequalities and promote an early childhood development (ECD). The objective of this study was to describe the relationship between the care provided to children aged 3 and 4 years according to the nurturing care (NC) framework and their ECD levels in Argentina, considering the region and wealth quintiles. Population and methods. This was an observational, cross-sectional analytical study based on data from the National Survey of Children and Adolescents (MICS) of Argentina 2019­2020. A total of 11 NC indicators were selected; the level of ECD was estimated using the Early Childhood Development Index (ECDI) for a descriptive, statistical analysis. Results. In 2638 children aged 3 and 4 years assessed, the average access to care indicators was 79.1%; access was high for 7 indicators (between 84.2% and 97.9%) and middle for 4 indicators (between 46.9% and 65.1%); the highest and lowest frequency corresponded to having a birth certificate (97.9%) and health insurance coverage (46.9%), respectively. Adequate ECDI levels were observed in 87.9%. Results show differences by wealth quintile and region. Conclusions. The results evidence inequalities in terms of access to care and an adequate ECD of children aged 3 and 4 years from urban areas of Argentina, depending on the region where they live and their household wealth level.

Introducción. En la Argentina, según los datos de la última Encuesta Nacional de Nutrición y Salud, 4 de cada 10 niños, niñas y adolescentes (NNyA) entre 5 y 17 años presentan exceso de peso. Objetivo. Identificar las estrategias de marketing en las páginas de Facebook® e Instagram® de las marcas de los alimentos consumidos por niñas, niños y adolescentes (NNyA), y categorizarlos según las Guías Alimentarias para la Población Argentina (GAPA). Métodos. El análisis se realizó en las publicaciones de agosto y septiembre de 2019, se identificaron aquellas dirigidas a NNyA y se categorizaron los alimentos promocionados según las GAPA. Resultados. De las 200 marcas identificadas, 111 tenían página de Facebook® y 95 de Instagram®. Las marcas que tenían página de Facebook® presentaron 65 publicaciones y las que tenían Instagram®, 64 publicaciones. Las estrategias más utilizadas fueron la imagen del producto y la interacción con los consumidores. La mitad de las páginas estaban dirigidas a NNyA. De los alimentos promocionados, 6 de cada 10 correspondieron al grupo de opcionales según las GAPA. Conclusiones. Se evidencia la importancia de monitorear la implicancia de las redes sociales en las conductas alimentarias.


Introduction. As per the National Survey on Nutrition and Health, in Argentina, 4/10 children and adolescents aged 5­17 years are overweight. Objective. To identify marketing strategies on Facebook® and Instagram® of brands of foods consumed by children and adolescents and to categorize them according to the Dietary Guidelines for the Argentine Population (GAPA). Methods. The posts made between August and September 2019 were analyzed, identifying those targeted at children and adolescents and categorizing promoted foods according to the GAPA. Results. Out of 200 brands identified, 111 had a Facebook® page and made 65 posts and 95 had an Instagram® account and made 64 posts. Product image and interaction with consumers were the more used stategies. Six out of 10 of the foods promoted corresponded to the optional group according to the GAPA. Conclusions. It is important to monitor the implications social media have on eating behaviors.

INTRODUCCIÓN: La industria alimentaria utiliza la televisión como medio para promocionar sus productos. El objetivo fue evaluar la frecuencia y la calidad nutricional de los alimentos publicitados en canales privados de televisión abierta en la Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires. MÉTODOS: Se realizó un estudio descriptivo y transversal. Se analizaron las publicidades de alimentos emitidas en los canales privados de televisión abierta. Se grabó la programación en días de semana y fin de semana de 8 a 20 horas durante agosto y septiembre de 2018. La calidad nutricional se evaluó con el sistema de perfilado nutricional (SPN) utilizado en la Ley Nº 20606 de Chile. RESULTADOS: Se analizaron 220 horas de programación. Se identificó un total de 484 publicidades de alimentos (12,8% de las publicidades), con una frecuencia de 2,2 anuncios por hora de programación. Las golosinas mostraron la mayor frecuencia (28% de los anuncios), seguidas por galletitas dulces (17%) y sopas deshidratadas (7%). De acuerdo con el SPN utilizado, el 55% de los alimentos superó el límite de energía, el 56% el de azúcares totales, el 57% el de grasas saturadas y el 20% el de sodio. DISCUSIÓN: Las publicidades de alimentos ocuparon una décima parte del espacio publicitario. Más de la mitad superó el límite de energía, azúcares totales y grasas saturadas según el sistema de perfilado chileno.

Resumen La retinopatía diabética es uno de los grandes problemas que enfrenta la salud pública en el siglo XXI. La prevalencia mundial se encuentra en constante aumento; sin embargo, poco se conoce sobre la frecuencia de esta enfermedad en la Argentina. Los programas de tele-oftalmología han ayudado a combatir y a comprender mejor esta enfermedad, principalmente en áreas rurales. El objetivo del siguiente tra bajo fue estimar la prevalencia de la retinopatía diabética en la provincia de La Pampa. Se realizó un estudio observacional de corte transversal, evaluando las características de la población asistida por un programa de tele-oftalmología en la zona rural de la provincia. Se evaluaron imágenes de retina obtenidas con un retinógrafo no midriático, la presión intraocular y características generales de la población. Se estimó una prevalencia del 21.5% y un 14.1% de estas personas tenían una amenaza visual grave. Además, se observó que el 5.0% tenían glaucoma, 63.4% hipertensión arterial y 42.6% dislipemia. Estos resultados son similares a los presentados en otros países del mundo. Son datos fundamentales para comprender detalles de la situación epidemiológica en esta región y poder armar estrategias sanitarias para enfrentar a esta enfermedad.


Abstract Diabetic retinopathy is one of the major problems public health is facing in the 21st century. The worldwide prevalence is increasing; however, little is known about the frequency of this disease in Argentina. Tele-ophthalmology programs have helped to face and to better understand this disease, mainly in rural areas. The aim of this study was to estimate the prevalence of diabetic retinopathy in the province of La Pampa. A cross-sectional observational study was carried out, evaluating the characteristics of the population assisted by a tele-ophthalmology program in a rural area of the province. The images, taken with a non-mydriatic retinal camera, the intraocular pressure and general characteristics of the population were evaluated. A disease prevalence of 21.5% was estimated and 14.1% of them had a vision-threatening diabetic retinopathy. In addition, it was observed that 5.0% had glaucoma, 63.4% hypertension and 42.6% dyslipidemia. These findings are similar to those reported in other countries around the world. These data are fundamental to understand the details of the epidemiological situation in this region and to be able to develop health strategies to deal with this disease.

ABSTRACT Introduction: Major neurocognitive disorder (MNCD) affects millions of people worldwide. However, the pharmacological options for its management are limited, ineffective and frequently associated with severe adverse reactions. Case report: An 85-year-old man with history of multiple chronic brain injuries (alcohol-use disorder, haemorrhagic stroke, brain trauma, chronic use of benzodiazepines) developed an MNCD, reaching 7 points on the Reisberg Global Deterioration Scale. He had minimal response to antidepressants, antipsychotics and anticholinergic medications. After the use of mother tincture of Indian hemp (cannabis), a significant improvement was found in his cognitive function, ability to carry out activities of daily living and independence. Discussion: The endocannabinoid system seems to be implicated in age-related cognitive decline. In addition, the evidence derived from in-vitro and animal models suggest that this system could play an important role in the management of MNCD of different causes. Conclusions: Cannabinoid treatment for MNCD emerges as a promising therapeutic approach that may benefit a growing number of patients who do not have other treatment options. It is therefore necessary to encourage more research efforts that will help to remove political and scientific barriers to its clinical use.


RESUMEN Introducción: El trastorno neurocognitivo mayor (TNM) afecta a millones de personas a nivel mundial. Sin embargo, las opciones farmacológicas para su manejo son limitadas, poco efectivas y se asocian a importantes reacciones adversas. Caso clínico: Se presenta el caso clínico de un hombre de 85 años, con antecedente de múltiples lesiones cerebrales crónicas (abuso de alcohol, enfermedad cerebrovascular, traumatismo cerebral, uso crónico de benzodiacepinas), quien desarrolló un TNM clasificado con 7 puntos en la Reisberg Global Deterioration Scale. Tuvo poca respuesta al manejo con antidepresivos, antipsicóticos y anticolinérgicos. Tras el uso de tintura madre de cáüamo índico (cannabis), se evidenció una mejoría en la función cognitiva, la capacidad de cuidado para las actividades de la vida diaria y la independencia. Discusión: El sistema endocanabinoide parece estar relacionado con los procesos de deterioro cognitivo asociados con la edad. Además, la evidencia derivada de modelos in vitro y animales sugiere que podría tener un papel importante en el manejo del TNM de diferentes etiologías. Conclusiones: El uso de cannabinoides en el TNM se presenta como una pista terapéutica prometedora. Por lo tanto, es necesario promover procesos de investigación que contribuyan a eliminar las barreras políticas y científicas para su uso clínico, beneficiando a un número creciente de pacientes que no poseen opciones terapéuticas eficaces.

Internet permitió expandir la promoción de alimentos/bebidas a diferentes medios. El objetivo del estudio fue identificar las estrategias de marketing en sitios web de marcas de alimentos y bebidas consumidos por niños/as y adolescentes, y clasificarlos según las recomendaciones de las Guías Alimentarias para la Población Argentina.Se seleccionaron los alimentos/bebidas más consumidos por la población infantojuvenil según la Encuesta Alimentaria Nutricional de la Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires. Se identificaron las páginas web de las marcas; se analizaron las estrategias de marketing y se clasificaron los alimentos/bebidas promocionados según las Guías.Se encontraron 80 páginas web, donde las estrategias más frecuentes fueron identificación de la marca, beneficios y declaraciones, y vínculos a páginas web y/o redes sociales. El 30 % de los sitios estaban dirigidos a niños/as/adolescentes, donde el 75 % de los alimentos/bebidas promocionados correspondieron al grupo de dulces y grasas, que incluye aquellos de bajo valor nutricional.


The Internet has allowed the expansion of food and beverage advertising in different media. The objective of this study was to identify the marketing strategies used in brand websites of foods and beverages consumed by children and adolescents, and classify them based on the Food Guidelines for the Argentinean Population.The foods and beverages most commonly consumed by the child and adolescent population as per the Survey on Nutritional Food Intake of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires were selected. Brand websites were identified; marketing strategies were analyzed and marketed foods and beverages were classified based on the Guidelines.A total of 80 websites were found; the most common strategies were brand identity, benefits and claims, and links to websites and/or social media. Also, 30 % of sites were aimed at children and adolescents, and 75 % of marketed foods and beverages corresponded to the group of sweets and fats, including those of low nutritional value

ABSTRACT

En la actual pandemia por COVID-19, el mundo clínico se ha visto obligado a reforzar el uso de protección en el quehacer asistencial, debido al alto grado de contagio y virulencia de este virus. En odontología, debido a la producción de aerosoles, se han suspendido las atenciones clínicas para prevenir contagios. El objetivo de esta investigación es determinar la cantidad de contaminación bacteriana, generada por el uso de aerosol con micromotor de alta velocidad, realizado por dentistas del Hospital de La Florida, Santiago de Chile. El estudio contó con 10 pacientes por box, con 2 muestras por paciente, en total 40 placas de cultivo, 20 Control, 20 Prueba y 3 Ambientales. El medio de cultivo se mantuvo por 10 minutos, ubicado en la frente del ope rador y pechera del paciente, se realizó simulación de operatoria con turbina, sin aislamiento absoluto, con y sin uso de una cúpula de acrílico, puesta en un paciente sano. Las muestras fueron analizadas macroscópicamente, incubadas a 37 ºC en una atmósfera de oxígeno por 24 horas y dióxido de Carbono a las 48 horas. 43 placas fueron positivas, observándose, en las muestras de la peche ra una diferencia no significativa (p=0,753) entre ambos grupos, con una diferencia promedio de 56,76 UFC. En las placas de la fre nte del operador, un promedio de 8.1 UFC en Box sin cúpula y 3,9 UFC en el box con cúpula, encontrándose diferencia estadísticament e significativa (p= 0,0391). Las placas ambientales 28,33 UFC en el Box con cúpula, 29 UFC en el Box control y Box sin cúpula 46, 66 UFC. Al comprobar que la cúpula de acrílico contiene eficazmente los aerosoles, corresponde utilizarlo como norma de biosegurid ad para proteger tanto al equipo dental, como a los pacientes en tiempos de pandemia contra el COVID-19.


In the current PANDEMIC for COVID- 19, the clinical world has been forced to reinforce the use of protection in healthcare, due to the high degree of contagion and virulence of this virus. In dentistry, due to the production of aerosols, clinical care has been suspended to prevent infection. The objective of this research is to determine the amount of bacterial contamination, generated by the use of high-speed micromotor aerosol, carried out by dentists at the Hospital de La Florida, Santiago, Chile. The study included 10 patients per box, with 2 samples per patient, in total 40 culture plates, 20 Control, 20 Test and 3 Environmental. The culture medium was kept for 10 minutes, located in the front of the operator and the patient's chest. Simulation of the operation with a turbine was performed, without absolute isolation, with and without the use of an acrylic dome, placed on a healthy patient. The samples were analyzed macroscopically, incubated at 37ºC in an atmosphere of oxygen for 24 hours and Carbon dioxide after 48 hours. 43 plates were positive, noting a non-significant difference (p = 0.753) between the two groups in the bib samples, with an average difference of 56.76 CFU. In the plates of the operator's forehead, an average of 8.1 CFU in the box without dome and 3.9 CFU in the box with dome, finding a statistically significant difference (p = 0.0391). The environmental plates 28.33 UFC in the Box with the dome, 29 UFC in the Control Box and the Box without dome 46.66 UFC. When verifying that the acrylic dome effectively contains aerosols, it should be used as a biosafety standard to protect both dental equipment and patients in times of pandemic against COVID-19.
