ABSTRACT

Image fusion is the generation of an informative image that contains complementary information from the original sensor images, such as texture details and attentional targets. Existing methods have designed a variety of feature extraction algorithms and fusion strategies to achieve image fusion. However, these methods ignore the extraction of common features in the original multi-source images. The point of view proposed in this paper is that image fusion is to retain, as much as possible, the useful shared features and complementary differential features of the original multi-source images. Shared and differential learning methods for infrared and visible light image fusion are proposed. An encoder with shared weights is used to extract shared common features contained in infrared and visible light images, and the other two encoder blocks are used to extract differential features of infrared images and visible light images, respectively. Effective learning of shared and differential features is achieved through weight sharing and loss functions. Then, the fusion of shared features and differential features is achieved via a weighted fusion strategy based on an entropy-weighted attention mechanism. The experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed model with its algorithm. Compared with the-state-of-the-art methods, the significant advantage of the proposed method is that it retains the structural information of the original image and has better fusion accuracy and visual perception effect.

ABSTRACT

Colorful circularly polarized organic ultralong room temperature phosphorescence (CP-OURTP) materials have attracted much attention due to their superior optoelectronic properties for various applications. However, the development of colorful CP-OURTP materials in a single-component molecular system is currently facing great challenges. Herein, a feasible strategy is proposed to develop colorful CP-OURTP material from a single-component chiral molecule by introducing a chiral unit into the phosphorescence chromophore. A dual CP-OURTP band originated from inherent triplet excitons emission showing a lifetime of 946.44 ms and triplet-triplet annihilation induced delayed emission with a short lifetime of 209.91 ms as well as maximum asymmetry factors of ≈10-3 are realized. Owing to the changed OURTP intensity ratios between inherent CP-OURTP and delayed emission at different delayed times, time-dependent colorful CP-OURTP turned from yellow to green is obtained. This study provides a potential platform to prepare circularly polarized material systems showing colorful luminescent properties.

ABSTRACT

AIM: Hypertensive nephropathy is embodied by kidney tissue fibrosis and glomerular sclerosis, as well as renal inflammation. The Hippo/YAP (yes-associated protein, YAP) axis has been reported to promote inflammation and fibrosis and may participate in the pathogenesis of heart, vascular and renal injuries. However, the role of the Hippo/YAP pathway in hypertensive renal injury has not been reported so far. We explored the role of the Hippo/YAP signalling pathway in hypertensive renal injury and the effect of peptide 17 on its effects. METHODS: Histopathological analyses were performed based on the Masson and Haematoxylin/eosin (HE) staining approaches. Biochemical indexes were determined and immunofluorescence and western blotting were used to detect protein expression levels. The mRNA expression levels were determined by qRT-PCR. RESULTS: Our results showed that peptide 17 reduced the systolic blood pressure (SBP) and urine protein/creatinine ratio in hypertensive rats. In addition, peptide 17 reduced the histopathological damage of kidneys in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRs). Moreover, peptide 17 downregulated genes in the Hippo/Yap pathway in kidney tissue of SHRs and Ang II-treated kidney cells. The expression levels of inflammatory factors TNF-α, IL-1ß and MCP-1 and the pro-fibrotic factors TGF-ß1, fibronectin, and CTGF were increased in the kidney of hypertensive rats, but reversed by peptide 17 treatment. Silencing of YAP had effect similar to that of peptide 17 in vivo and in vitro. CONCLUSION: Peptide 17 alleviates early renal injury in hypertension by regulating the Hippo/YAP signalling pathway. These findings may be useful in the treatment of hypertensive renal injury.

ABSTRACT

The structural memory effect of layered double hydroxides (LDHs) is one of the important reasons for their extensive use in environmental remediation. In this study, humic acid (HA) was extracted from black soil and sediments and characterized to determine their structures. The regeneration mechanisms of calcinated LDHs (CLDHs) including different divalent metals (Mg-CLDH and Zn-CLDH) in deionized water and different HA solutions were carefully elucidated, and the reasons for the behavior differences in the two materials were explained. The presence of the HAs significantly increased the dissolution rate of Mg2+ ions from Mg-CLDHs and subsequent regeneration of Mg-LDH. Because of the diverse functional groups in the HAs, these groups were complexed with metallic ions such as Mg2+ on the surface of Mg-CLDH in the beginning. During the process, the HAs adsorbed the regenerated LDHs on the surfaces. Therefore, the crystallinity, morphology, and specific surface area of the regenerated Mg-LDH significantly changed, especially in the presence of high concentrations of HA. In the case of Zn-CLDH, the regeneration rate of the LDH increased in the presence of HA, but the surface of Zn-CLDH was covered with regenerated Zn-LDH and HA. Then, the inside of the particles could not transform to LDH, leading to poor crystallinity and a significant increase in the ZnO content of the HA system.

BACKGROUND Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) is a common procedure to circumvent the obstruction of coronary arteries when stents are unsuitable. CABG is a very traumatic surgery that requires redirecting blood flow to an external pump. Thus, this procedure has many risks during and after surgery, and minimizing these risks would greatly benefit the patients. MATERIAL AND METHODS We selected 126 patients with coronary artery syndrome and who were unsuitable for stent percutaneous coronary intervention. The observation group received minimally invasive direct coronary artery bypass (MIDCAB), while the control group was treated with off-pump CABG. RESULTS Blood markers and echocardiography before and after treatment improved equally in both groups. Neither group exhibited obvious adverse reactions, or liver and kidney function damage. However, surgical bleeding and postoperative observation days were significantly reduced in the MIDCAB group. Death and cardiac shock at the end of follow-up were significantly lower in the MIDCAB group. CONCLUSIONS Overall, the clinical benefits of MIDCAB and OP-CABG were similar, but MIDCAB significantly reduced postoperative hospital stay and intraoperative blood transfusion, and improved clinical prognosis.

ABSTRACT

This paper puts forward a prediction model based on membrane computing optimization algorithm for chaos time series; the model optimizes simultaneously the parameters of phase space reconstruction (τ, m) and least squares support vector machine (LS-SVM) (γ, σ) by using membrane computing optimization algorithm. It is an important basis for spectrum management to predict accurately the change trend of parameters in the electromagnetic environment, which can help decision makers to adopt an optimal action. Then, the model presented in this paper is used to forecast band occupancy rate of frequency modulation (FM) broadcasting band and interphone band. To show the applicability and superiority of the proposed model, this paper will compare the forecast model presented in it with conventional similar models. The experimental results show that whether single-step prediction or multistep prediction, the proposed model performs best based on three error measures, namely, normalized mean square error (NMSE), root mean square error (RMSE), and mean absolute percentage error (MAPE).

ABSTRACT

P systems are a class of distributed parallel computing models; this paper presents a novel clustering algorithm, which is inspired from mechanism of a tissue-like P system with a loop structure of cells, called membrane clustering algorithm. The objects of the cells express the candidate centers of clusters and are evolved by the evolution rules. Based on the loop membrane structure, the communication rules realize a local neighborhood topology, which helps the coevolution of the objects and improves the diversity of objects in the system. The tissue-like P system can effectively search for the optimal partitioning with the help of its parallel computing advantage. The proposed clustering algorithm is evaluated on four artificial data sets and six real-life data sets. Experimental results show that the proposed clustering algorithm is superior or competitive to k-means algorithm and several evolutionary clustering algorithms recently reported in the literature.

ABSTRACT

Creating circularly polarized organic afterglow system with elevated triplet energy levels, suppressed non-radiative transitions, and effective chirality, which are three critical prerequisites for achieving blue circularly polarized afterglow, has posed a formidable challenge. Herein, a straightforward approach is unveiled to attain blue circularly polarized afterglow materials by covalently self-confining isolated chiral chromophore within polymer matrix. The formation of robust hydrogen bonds within the polymer matrix confers a distinctly isolated and stabilized molecular state of chiral chromophores, endowing a blue emission band at 414 nm, lifetime of 3.0 s, and luminescent dissymmetry factor of ~ 10-2. Utilizing the synergistic afterglow and chirality energy transfer, full-color circularly polarized afterglow systems are endowed by doping colorful fluorescent molecules into designed blue polymers, empowering versatile applications. This work paves the way for the streamlined design of blue circularly polarized afterglow materials, expanding the horizons of circularly polarized afterglow materials into various domains.

ABSTRACT

High-efficiency narrowband emission is always in the central role of organic optoelectronic display applications. However, the development of organic afterglow materials with sufficient color purity and high quantum efficiency for hyperafterglow is still great challenging due to the large structural relaxation and severe non-radiative decay of triplet excitons. Here we demonstrate a simple yet efficient strategy to achieve hyperafterglow emission through sensitizing and stabilizing isolated fluorescence chromophores by integrating multi-resonance fluorescence chromophores into afterglow host in a single-component copolymer. Bright multicolor hyperafterglow with maximum photoluminescent efficiencies of 88.9%, minimum full-width at half-maximums (FWHMs) of 38 nm and ultralong lifetimes of 1.64 s under ambient conditions are achieved. With this facilely designed polymer, a large-area hyperafterglow display panel was fabricated. By virtue of narrow emission band and high luminescent efficiency, the hyperafterglow presents a significant technological advance in developing highly efficient organic afterglow materials and extends the domain to new applications.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To investigate the changes in blood D-dimer (D-D), high-sensitivity troponin I (hs-cTnI), and N-terminal B-type brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) levels in patients with acute aortic dissection (AAD) and its clinical significance. Methods: Forty patients with AAD diagnosed in our hospital from January 2018 to December 2019 were selected as the observation group, and 40 patients with chest pain and non-AAD treated in our hospital during the same period were included in the control group. The patients were subdivided into a death group and a survival group as per the prognosis. The clinical symptoms and signs of the two groups of patients upon admission were observed, and the levels of D-D, hs-cTnI, and NT-proBNP were determined. The differences in clinical data, plasma D-D, hs-cTnI, and NT-proBNP levels between the two groups of patients were analyzed. Results: The clinical data and physical signs were homogeneous between the two groups (P > 0.05), while a significant elevation in the level of hs-cTnI in the control group was observed 24 h after admission (P < 0.05). The observation group showed significantly higher levels of D-D, NT-proBNP, and hs-cTnI than the control group (P < 0.05). The prevalence and surgical cure rate of Stanford A in the survival group were significantly lower in contrast with the death group, with an obvious higher intervention cure rate in the survival group. Higher D-dimer and NT-proBNP levels were identified at 24 h after admission versus upon admission, and the death group had a greater increase of D-dimer and NT-proBNP levels. Conclusion: Clinical symptoms and signs are insufficient to constitute a diagnosis of AAD, whereas the elevated expression levels of D-D, hs-cTnI, and NT-proBNP demonstrated great potential for the diagnosis and prognosis of AAD.

Atrial fibrosis influences atrial fibrillation (AF) development by transforming growth factor beta 1 (TGF-ß1)/Smad pathway. Although microRNAs are implicated in the pathogenesis of various diseases, information regarding the functional role of microRNAs in atrial dysfunction is limited. In the present study, we found that microRNA-27b (miR-27b) was the dominant member of miR-27 family expressed in left atrium. Moreover, the expression of miR-27b was significantly reduced after angiotensin II (AngII) infusion. Masson's trichrome staining revealed that delivery of miR-27b adeno-associated virus to left atrium led to a decrease in atrial fibrosis induced by AngII. The increased expression of collagen I, collagen III, plasminogen activator inhibitor type 1 and alpha smooth muscle actin was also inhibited after miR-27b upregulation. In isolated perfused hearts, miR-27b restoration markedly attenuated AngII-induced increase in interatrial conduction time, AF incidence and AF duration. Furthermore, our data evidence that miR-27b is a novel miRNA that targets ALK5, a receptor of TGF-ß1, through binding to the 3' untranslated region of ALK5 mRNA. Ectopic miR-27b suppressed luciferase activity and expression of ALK5, whereas inhibition of miR-27b increased ALK5 luciferase activity and expression. Additionally, miR-27b inhibited AngII-induced Smad-2/3 phosphorylation without altering Smad-1 activity. Taken together, our study demonstrates that miR-27b ameliorates atrial fibrosis and AF through inactivation of Smad-2/3 pathway by targeting ALK5, suggesting miR-27b may play an anti-fibrotic role in left atrium and function as a novel therapeutic target for the treatment of cardiac dysfunction.

BACKGROUND: Puerarin is an effective ingredient isolated from Radix Puerariae, a leguminous plant. In China, a large number of early studies suggest that puerarin may be used in the treatment of coronary heart disease. In recent years, puerarin injection has been widely used to treat coronary heart disease and angina pectoris. OBJECTIVE: To systematically evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of puerarin injection in the treatment of unstable angina pectoris (UAP). METHODS: Data were retrieved from digital databases, including PubMed, Excerpt Medica Database (EMBASE), China Biology Medicine (CBM), the Cochrane Library, and Chinese databases. RESULTS: Compared with patients who were treated with conventional Western medicines alone, the patients who were treated with conventional Western medicines in combination with puerarin injection exhibited significant improvements in the incidence of angina pectoris, electrocardiogram findings, nitroglycerin consumption and plasma endothelin levels. CONCLUSIONS: Strong evidence suggests that, the use of puerarin in combination with conventional Western medicines is a better treatment option for treating UAP, compared with the use of conventional Western medicines alone.
