ABSTRACT
Arynes hold significance for the efficient fusion of (hetero) arenes with diverse substrates, advancing the construction of complex molecular frameworks. Employing multiple equivalents of arynes is particularly effective in the rapid formation of polycyclic cores found in optoelectronic materials and bioactive compounds. However, the inherent reactivity of arynes often leads to side reactions, yielding unanticipated products and underlining the importance of a detailed investigation into the use of multiple arynes to fine-tune their reactivity. This review centers on methodologies and syntheses in organic reactions involving multiple arynes, categorizing based on mechanisms like cycloadditions, σ-bond insertions, nucleophilic additions, and ene reactions, and discusses aryne polymerization. The categorization based on these mechanisms includes two primary approaches: the first entails multiple aryne engagement within a single step while the second approach involves using a single equivalent of aryne sequentially across multiple steps, with both requiring strict reactivity control to ensure precise aryne participation in each respective step. Additionally, the review provides an in-depth analysis of the selection of aryne precursors, organized chronologically and by activation strategy, offering a comprehensive background that supports the main theme of multiple aryne utilization. The expectation remains that this comprehensive review will be invaluable in designing advanced syntheses engaging multiple arynes.
ABSTRACT
Cancer vaccines have been developed as a promising way to boost cancer immunity. However, their clinical potency is often limited due to the imprecise delivery of tumor antigens. To overcome this problem, we conjugated an endogenous Toll-like receptor (TLR)2/6 ligand, UNE-C1, to human papilloma virus type 16 (HPV-16)-derived peptide antigen, E7, and found that the UNE-C1-conjugated cancer vaccine (UCV) showed significantly enhanced antitumor activity in vivo compared with the noncovalent combination of UNE-C1 and E7. The combination of UCV with PD-1 blockades further augmented its therapeutic efficacy. Specifically, the conjugation of UNE-C1 to E7 enhanced its retention in inguinal draining lymph nodes, the specific delivery to dendritic cells and E7 antigen-specific T cell responses, and antitumor efficacy in vivo compared with the noncovalent combination of the two peptides. These findings suggest the potential of UNE-C1 derived from human cysteinyl-tRNA synthetase 1 as a unique vehicle for the specific delivery of cancer antigens to antigen-presenting cells via TLR2/6 for the improvement of cancer vaccines.

This study investigated the role of Ninjurin1 (Ninj1), encoding a small transmembrane protein, in colitis-associated colon tumorigenesis in relation to sex hormones. Male and female wild-type (WT) and Ninj1 knockout (KO) mice were treated with azoxymethane (AOM) and dextran sulfate sodium (DSS), with or without testosterone propionate (TP). At week 2 (acute colitis stage), Ninj1 KO exhibited an alleviation in the colitis symptoms in both male and female mice. The M2 macrophage population increased and CD8+ T cell population decreased only in the female Ninj1 KO than in the female WT AOM/DSS group. In the female AOM/DSS group, TP treatment exacerbated colon shortening in the Ninj1 KO than in the WT. At week 13 (tumorigenesis stage), male Ninj1 KO mice had fewer tumors, but females showed similar tumors. In the WT AOM/DSS group, females had more M2 macrophages and fewer M1 macrophages than males, but this difference was absent in Ninj1 KO mice. In the Ninj1 KO versus WT group, the expression of pro-inflammatory mediators and Ho-1 and CD8+ T cell populations decreased in both female and male Ninj1 KO mice. In the WT group, M2 macrophage populations were increased by AOM/DSS treatment and decreased by TP treatment. However, neither treatment changed the cell populations in the Ninj1 KO group. These results suggest that Ninj1 is involved in colorectal cancer development in a testosterone-dependent manner, which was different in male and female. This highlights the importance of considering sex disparities in understanding Ninj1's role in cancer pathogenesis.

BACKGROUND: Immune checkpoint inhibitors unleash inhibitory signals on T cells conferred by tumors and surrounding stromal cells. Despite the clinical efficacy of checkpoint inhibitors, the lack of target expression and persistence of immunosuppressive cells limit the pervasive effectiveness of the therapy. These limitations may be overcome by alternative approaches that co-stimulate T cells and the immune microenvironment. METHODS: We analyzed single-cell RNA sequencing data from multiple human cancers and a mouse tumor transplant model to discover the pleiotropic expression of the Interleukin 7 (IL-7) receptor on T cells, macrophages, and dendritic cells. RESULTS: Our experiment on the mouse model demonstrated that recombinant IL-7 therapy induces tumor regression, expansion of effector CD8 T cells, and pro-inflammatory activation of macrophages. Moreover, spatial transcriptomic data support immunostimulatory interactions between macrophages and T cells. CONCLUSION: These results indicate that IL-7 therapy induces anti-tumor immunity by activating T cells and pro-inflammatory myeloid cells, which may have diverse therapeutic applicability.

OBJECTIVES: To compare the efficacy of transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) and radiofrequency ablation (RFA) for patients with single small (≤ 3 cm) hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and preserved liver function (Child-Pugh class A). MATERIALS AND METHODS: The clinical features of treatment-naïve patients who underwent TACE and RFA as first-line treatment were balanced through propensity score matching (PSM). The primary endpoint was overall survival (OS), and the secondary endpoints were local tumor recurrence (LTR) and recurrence-free survival (RFS). RESULTS: The analysis included 440 patients who received TACE, and 430 patients who received RFA. After PSM adjustment (323 pairs), the 5- and 10-year OS rates were 81% and 61%, respectively, in patients who underwent RFA, and 77% and 51%, respectively, for patients who underwent TACE (p = 0.021). Subgroup analyses showed that OS, LTR, and RFS were homogeneously better in the RFA group. CONCLUSION: RFA was associated with better survival outcomes than TACE in patients with single small HCC and preserved liver function. CLINICAL RELEVANCE STATEMENT: This large-scale comparative study provides evidence that radiofrequency ablation has a better overall survival rate than chemoembolization for small (≤ 3 cm) hepatocellular carcinomas. KEY POINTS: ⢠The relative effectiveness of transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) and radiofrequency ablation (RFA) for early HCC is unclear. ⢠Overall survival rate was significantly higher in the RFA group. ⢠The effects of RFA on overall survival, local tumor recurrence, and recurrence-free survival were homogeneously better in all subgroups.

When a pure ethanol droplet is deposited on a dry, wettable and conductive substrate, it is expected to spread into a thin, uniform film. Here, we demonstrate that this uniform spreading behaviour can be altered significantly by controlling the ambient relative humidity. We show that higher relative humidity not only promotes faster spreading of the droplet, it also destabilizes the moving contact line, resulting in a fingering instability. We observe that these effects primarily emerge due to the hygroscopic nature of the pure droplet, which eventually leads to solutal-Marangoni effects. Additionally, heat transfer between the evaporating droplet and the underlying substrate also plays a crucial role in the overall dynamics. Thus, the overall spreading of a pure hygroscopic droplet is determined by a delicate interplay between solutal and thermal Marangoni effects.

Many engineering and natural phenomena involve the merging of two fluid streams through a T-junction. Previous studies of such merging flows have been focused primarily upon Newtonian fluids. We observed in our recent experiment with five different polymer solutions a direct change from an undisturbed to either a steady vortical or unsteady three-dimensional flow at the T-junction with increasing inertia. The transition state(s) in between these two types of merging flow patterns is, however, yet to be known. We present here a systematic experimental study of the merging flow of polyethylene oxide (PEO) solutions with varying polymer concentrations and molecular weights. Two new paths of flow development are identified with the increase of Reynolds number: one is the transition in very weakly viscoelastic fluids first to steady vortical flow and then to a juxtaposition state with an unsteady elastic eddy zone in the middle and a steady inertial vortex on each side, and the other is the transition in weakly viscoelastic fluids first to a steady vortical and/or a juxtaposition state and then to a fully unsteady flow. Interestingly, the threshold Reynolds number for the onset of elastic instabilities in the merging flow is not a monotonic function of the elasticity number, but instead follows a power-law dependence on the polymer concentration relative to its overlap value. Such a dependence turns out qualitatively consistent with the prediction of the McKinley-Pakdel criterion.

BACKGROUND: Treatment with potassium-competitive acid blockers has shown acceptable efficacy in Helicobacter pylori eradication. In regions like Korea, where the clarithromycin resistance rate is high, alternative combinations like non-bismuth quadruple therapies have shown favorable results. This study compared the outcomes of sequential eradication therapy with new potassium-competitive acid blocker tegoprazan and conventional esomeprazole-containing sequential therapy. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Patients with Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection were consecutively recruited. Patients were allocated to either an esomeprazole-containing sequential or a tegoprazan-containing sequential therapy group. Sequential therapy comprised esomeprazole (40 mg) or tegoprazan (50 mg) plus amoxicillin (1000 mg) twice daily for the initial 5 days, followed by esomeprazole (40 mg) or tegoprazan (50 mg) with clarithromycin (500 mg) and metronidazole (500 mg) twice daily for the remaining 5 days. Eradication rate, compliance, and adverse events were recorded. RESULTS: A total of 406 patients with H. pylori infection were enrolled in the trial and analyzed per protocol. Eradication rate by intention-to-treat and per-protocol was 83.8% (95% confidence interval [CI]: 78.7-88.9) for esomeprazole-containing sequential therapy, and 87.1% (95% CI: 82.5-91.8) for tegoprazan-containing sequential therapy, with no statistical significance (p = 0.399). Additionally, there was no statistically significant difference in treatment compliance between the two groups. Nausea was more prevalent (23.3%, 27/202) with sequential tegoprazans than with esomeprazole-containing sequential therapy (14.2%, 29/204; p = 0.022). CONCLUSION: Tegoprazan-containing 10-day sequential eradication treatment demonstrated similar eradication efficacy compared to esomeprazole-containing treatment, even in regions with high antimicrobial resistance, such as Korea. BACKGROUND: Changes in gastric microbiome are associated with gastric carcinogenesis. Studies on the association between gastric mucosa-associated gastric microbiome (MAM) and metachronous gastric cancer are limited. This study aimed to identify gastric MAM as a predictive factor for metachronous recurrence following endoscopic resection of gastric neoplasms. METHOD: Microbiome analyses were conducted for 81 patients in a prospective cohort to investigate surrogate markers to predict metachronous recurrence. Gastric MAM in non-cancerous corporal biopsy specimens was evaluated using Illumina MiSeq platform targeting 16S ribosomal DNA. RESULTS: Over a median follow-up duration of 53.8 months, 16 metachronous gastric neoplasms developed. Baseline gastric MAM varied with Helicobacter pylori infection status, but was unaffected by initial pathologic diagnosis, presence of atrophic gastritis, intestinal metaplasia, or synchronous lesions. The group with metachronous recurrence did not exhibit distinct phylogenetic diversity compared with the group devoid of recurrence but showed significant difference in ß-diversity. The study population could be classified into two distinct gastrotypes based on baseline gastric MAM: gastrotype 1, Helicobacter-abundant; gastrotype 2: Akkermansia-abundant. Patients in gastrotype 2 showed higher risk of metachronous recurrence than gastrotype (Cox proportional hazard analysis, adjusted hazard ratio [95% confidence interval]: 5.10 [1.09-23.79]). CONCLUSIONS: Gastric cancer patients can be classified into two distinct gastrotype groups by their MAM profiles, which were associated with different risk of metachronous recurrence.

BACKGROUND: Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-associated gastric cancer (EBVaGC) has been reported to account for approximately 5-16% of all GCs with good prognosis compared to EBV-negative GC. We evaluated the clinicopathological characteristics of EBVaGC including survival rate in South Korea. METHODS: A total of 4,587 patients with GC who underwent EBV in situ hybridization (EBV-ISH) were prospectively enrolled at the Seoul National University Bundang Hospital from 2003 to 2021. Age, sex, smoking status, cancer type and stage, tumor size and location, histological type, molecular features and survival information were analyzed. RESULTS: A total of 456 patients with GC (9.9%) were positive for EBV. The EBVaGC group displayed a higher proportion of males (P < 0.001), a predominant presence in the proximal stomach (P < 0.001), a higher proportion of undifferentiated cancer (P < 0.001), and a lower cancer stage (P = 0.004) than the EBV-negative group. Cox multivariate analyses revealed age (hazard ratio [HR] = 1.025, P < 0.001), tumor size (HR = 1.109, P < 0.001), and cancer stage (stage2 HR = 4.761, P < 0.001; stage3 HR = 13.286, P < 0.001; stage4 HR = 42.528, P < 0.001) as significant risk factors for GC-specific mortality, whereas EBV positivity was inversely correlated (HR = 0.620, P = 0.022). Furthermore, the EBVaGC group displayed statistically significant survival advantages over the EBV-negative cancer group in terms of both overall (P = 0.021) and GC-specific survival (P = 0.007) on the Kaplan-Meier survival curve. However, this effect was evident only in males. CONCLUSIONS: EBVaGC patients showed better prognoses despite their association with proximal location and poorly differentiated histology in male, probably due to the difference in immunity between males and females.

BACKGROUND: Computed tomography (CT)-guided percutaneous transthoracic needle biopsy (PTNB) is not recommended as the diagnostic modality of choice for anterior mediastinal lymphoma, despite its advantages of minimal invasiveness and easy accessibility. PURPOSE: To identify the modifiable risk factors for non-diagnostic results from CT-guided PTNB for anterior mediastinal lymphoma. MATERIAL AND METHODS: This retrospective study identified CT-guided PTNB for anterior mediastinal lesions diagnosed as lymphoma between May 2007 and December 2021. The diagnostic sensitivity and complications were investigated. The appropriateness of PTNB targeting was evaluated using positron emission tomography (PET)/CT and images from intra-procedural CT-guided PTNB. Targeting was considered inappropriate when the supposed trajectory of the cutting needle was within a region of abnormally low metabolism. The risk factors for non-diagnostic results were determined using logistic regression analysis. RESULTS: A total of 67 PTNBs in 60 patients were included. The diagnostic sensitivity for lymphoma was 76.1% (51/67), with an immediate complication rate of 4.5% (3/67). According to the PET/CT images, PTNB targeting was inappropriate in 10/14 (71.4%) of the non-diagnostic PTNBs but appropriate in all diagnostic PTNBs (P <0.001). Inappropriate targeting was the only significant risk factor for non-diagnostic results (odds ratio = 203.69; 95% confidence interval = 8.17-999.99; P = 0.001). The number of specimen acquisitions was not associated with non-diagnostic results (P = 0.40). CONCLUSIONS: Only inappropriate targeting of the non-viable portion according to PET/CT was an independent risk factor for non-diagnostic results. Acquiring PET/CT scans before biopsy and targeting the viable portion on PET/CT may help improve the diagnostic sensitivity of PTNB.

Genes that are primarily expressed in cochlear glia-like supporting cells (GLSs) have not been clearly associated with progressive deafness. Herein, we present a deafness locus mapped to chromosome 3p25.1 and an auditory neuropathy spectrum disorder (ANSD) gene, TMEM43, mainly expressed in GLSs. We identify p.(Arg372Ter) of TMEM43 by linkage analysis and exome sequencing in two large Asian families segregating ANSD, which is characterized by inability to discriminate speech despite preserved sensitivity to sound. The knock-in mouse with the p.(Arg372Ter) variant recapitulates a progressive hearing loss with histological abnormalities in GLSs. Mechanistically, TMEM43 interacts with the Connexin26 and Connexin30 gap junction channels, disrupting the passive conductance current in GLSs in a dominant-negative fashion when the p.(Arg372Ter) variant is introduced. Based on these mechanistic insights, cochlear implant was performed on three subjects, and speech discrimination was successfully restored. Our study highlights a pathological role of cochlear GLSs by identifying a deafness gene and its causal relationship with ANSD.

Integration of living cells with extrinsic functional entities gives rise to bioaugmented nanobiohybrids, which hold tremendous potential across diverse fields such as cell therapy, biocatalysis, and cell robotics. This study presents a biocompatible method for incorporating multilayered functional liposomes onto the cell surface, creating extracellular artificial organelles. The introduction of various extrinsic functionalities to cells is achieved without comprising their viabilities. The integration of extrinsic enzymatic reactions is exemplified through the cascade reaction involving glucose oxidase and horseradish peroxidase. Furthermore, our protocol offers the design flexibility to customize liposome compositions, thereby providing effective cell modification. The versatility of the liposome-based exorganelle approach establishes an advanced chemical tool, empowering cells with novel functionalities that surpass or are complementary to their innate capabilities.

Executive attention impairments are a persistent and debilitating consequence of traumatic brain injury (TBI). To make headway towards treating and predicting outcomes following heterogeneous TBI, cognitive impairment specific pathophysiology first needs to be characterized. In a prospective observational study, we measured EEG during the attention network test aimed at detecting alerting, orienting, executive attention and processing speed. The sample (N = 110) of subjects aged 18-86 included those with and without traumatic brain injury: n = 27, complicated mild TBI; n = 5, moderate TBI; n = 10, severe TBI; n = 63, non-brain-injured controls. Subjects with TBI had impairments in processing speed and executive attention. Electrophysiological markers of executive attention processing in the midline frontal regions reveal that, as a group, those with TBI and elderly non-brain-injured controls have reduced responses. We also note that those with TBI and elderly controls have responses that are similar for both low and high-demand trials. In subjects with moderate-severe TBI, reductions in frontal cortical activation and performance profiles are both similar to that of controls who are â¼4 to 7 years older. Our specific observations of frontal response reductions in subjects with TBI and in older adults is consistent with the suggested role of the anterior forebrain mesocircuit as underlying cognitive impairments. Our results provide novel correlative data linking specific pathophysiological mechanisms underlying domain-specific cognitive deficits following TBI and with normal aging. Collectively, our findings provide biomarkers that may serve to track therapeutic interventions and guide development of targeted therapeutics following brain injuries.

Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) induce activation and expansion of cytotoxic T cells. To depict a comprehensive immune cell landscape reshaped by the CTLA-4 checkpoint inhibitor, we performed single-cell RNA sequencing in a mouse syngeneic tumor transplant model. After CTLA-4 inhibition, tumor regression was accompanied by massive immune cell expansion, especially in T and B cells. We found that B cells in tumor transplant represented follicular, germinal center and plasma B cells, some of which shared identical B cell receptor clonotypes and possessed tumor reactivity. Furthermore, the posttreatment tumor contained a tertiary lymphoid-like structure with intermingled T and B cells. These data suggest germinal center formation within the tumor mass and in situ differentiation of tumor-specific plasma cells. Taken together, our data provide a panoramic view of the immune microenvironment after CTLA-4 inhibition and suggest a role for tumor-specific B cells in antitumor immunity.

We propose a novel, to the best of our knowledge, distance recovery method via swept frequency mixing for frequency-modulated continuous wave (FMCW) light detection and ranging (LiDAR) to overcome the Nyquist limit and obtain high data efficiency. A one dimensional (1D) experiment was conducted to recover the optical fiber length; in addition, a 3D image was obtained by recovering the distances of several targets in free space. Compared to conventional methods based on fast Fourier transform (FFT), beat frequency up to 14 times the Nyquist limit for sampling frequency was successfully measured without aliasing. The proposed method dramatically increases the data efficiency in FMCW LiDAR by reducing the number of complex algorithms and experimental resources required.

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the safety and efficacy of chemoembolization in patients with intermediate-stage infiltrative Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). MATERIALS AND METHODS: This retrospective study evaluated outcomes in treatment-naïve patients who received chemoembolization as first-line treatment for intermediate-stage infiltrative HCC between 2002 and 2022. Of the 2029 treatment-naïve patients who received chemoembolization as first-line treatment for intermediate-stage HCC, 244 (12%) were identified as having the infiltrative type. After excluding two patients lost to follow-up, 242 patients were evaluated. RESULTS: Median post-chemoembolization overall survival (OS) was 16 months. Multivariable Cox analysis identified four factors predictive of OS: Child-Pugh class B (hazard ratio [HR], 1.84; p = 0.001), maximal tumor size ≥ 10 cm (HR, 1.67; p < 0.001), tumor number ≥ 4 (HR, 1.42; p = 0.037), and bilobar tumor involvement (HR, 1.64; p = 0.003). These four factors were used to create pretreatment prediction models, with risk scores of 0-1, 2-4, and 5-7 defined as low, intermediate, and high risk, respectively. Median OS times in these three groups were 34, 18, and 8 months, respectively (p < 0.001). The objective tumor response rate following chemoembolization was 53%. The major complication rate was 9% overall and was significantly higher in the high-risk group (22%) than in the low (2%) and intermediate (3%) risk groups (p < 0.001). CONCLUSION: Chemoembolization is safe and effective in selected patients with intermediate-stage infiltrative HCC. Chemoembolization is not recommended in high-risk patients with intermediate-stage infiltrative HCC because of poor OS and high rates of major complications. CLINICAL RELEVANCE STATEMENT: A pretreatment prediction model was developed using four risk factors associated with overall survival following chemoembolization for intermediate-stage infiltrative hepatocellular carcinoma. This model may provide valuable information for clinical decision-making. The merging flow through a T-junction is relevant to sample mixing and particle manipulation in microfluidic devices. It has been extensively studied for Newtonian fluids, particularly in the high inertial regime where flow bifurcation takes place for enhanced mixing. However, the effects of fluid rheological properties on the merging flow have remained largely unexplored. We investigate here the flow of five types of polymer solutions along with water in a planar T-shaped microchannel over a wide range of flow rates for a systematic understanding of the effects of fluid shear thinning and elasticity. It is found that the merging flow near the stagnation point of the T-junction can either be vortex dominated or have unsteady streamlines, depending on the strength of elasticity and shear thinning present in the fluid. Moreover, the shear thinning effect is found to induce a symmetric unsteady flow in comparison to the asymmetric unsteady flow in the viscoelastic fluids, the latter of which exhibits greater interfacial fluctuations.

BACKGROUND: Failure of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) eradication is principally caused by antimicrobial resistance. Nowadays, multidrug resistance could be a major determinant of eradication failure. To assess minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC), antimicrobial resistance rates and trends in H. pylori isolated from patients with upper gastrointestinal disease with long-term period. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Patients who had H. pylori colonies isolated from culture were consecutively enrolled during the period of 2003-2022. From each patient, one to ten isolates were collected from culture of mucosal biopsy. MIC test was performed for amoxicillin, clarithromycin, metronidazole, tetracycline, levofloxacin, and moxifloxacin using agar dilution method. Trends in MIC distribution, prevalence of resistances with single and multiple were investigated which were suspected to be related to the failure of empirical H. pylori eradication treatment. RESULTS: From 2003 to 2022, a total of 873 patients were enrolled and 2735 H. pylori isolates were successfully collected. Increase in the primary resistance rate was found in clarithromycin (16.1%-31.0%, p = .022), metronidazole (30.6%-38.1%, p < 0.001), and both of levofloxacin and moxifloxacin (7.3%-35.7%, p < 0.001). The prevalence of multidrug resistance to both clarithromycin and metronidazole (9.2%-37.9%, p < 0.001), clarithromycin and fluoroquinolone (2.8%-41.7%, p < 0.001), and clarithromycin, metronidazole, and fluoroquinolone (1.4%-28.2%, p < 0.001) was found to significantly increase. CONCLUSIONS: The prevalence of multiple resistance against H. pylori in Korea is ongoing. Its trend should be considered when establishing an empirical treatment strategy (ClinicalTrials. gov: NCT05247112).

BACKGROUND: The association between Helicobacter pylori (HP) infection and coronary heart disease (CHD) is controversial. This study aimed to investigate the effect of H. pylori eradication on CHD, especially in terms of age and sex. MATERIALS AND METHODS: From May 2003 to March 2022, 4765 subjects with H. pylori infection and without CHD (median follow-up: 51 months) were prospectively enrolled. The participants were categorized into two groups: H. pylori eradication and H. pylori non-eradication. After propensity-score matching (PSM), the effect of H. pylori eradication on CHD was analyzed using Cox proportional hazards. RESULTS: There were no significant differences in age, sex, alcohol consumption, smoking habits, history of diabetes, hypertension, and dyslipidemia, and aspirin intake between the eradication and non-eradication groups (3783 vs. 982) before and after PSM. Multivariate analysis after PSM showed that H. pylori eradication (HR: 0.489, CI: 0.314-0.761, p = .002), age (HR: 1.027, CI: 1.007-1.047, p = .007), hypertension (HR: 2.133, CI: 1.337-3.404, p = 001), dyslipidemia (HR: 1.758, CI: 1.086-2.848, p = .022), and aspirin intake (HR: 2.508, CI: 1.566-4.017, p < .001) were associated with CHD development. H. pylori eradication prevented CHD in males ≤65 years (HR: 0.133, CI: 0.039-0.455, p = .001), but not in those aged >65 years (p = .078) (p for interaction = .022). In contrast, females aged >65 years (HR: 0.260, CI: 0.110-0.615, p = .002) were protected by H. pylori eradication and not those ≤65 years (p = .485) (p for interaction = .003). This preventive effect increased more after PSM, particularly in males ≤65 years and females >65 years. CONCLUSIONS: H. pylori eradication prevented CHD and this effect was different depending on age and sex.
