ABSTRACT

AIM: This study aimed to measure pandemic fatigue, physical and mental health, and job status of front-line medical staff in Ningbo. And to identify factors associated with pandemic fatigue. BACKGROUND: There was an acute increase in fatigue symptoms at the COVID-19 pandemic onset. The front-line medical staff is particularly vulnerable to fatigue due to their high-intensity work. DESIGN: This was a descriptive, cross-sectional study conducted using an online survey that included demographic data, investigation of COVID-19 history and job status. The Fatigue Assessment Scale, GAD-7 score and Sleep Quality Scale were used to collect data from 479 front-line medical staff. METHODS: The study involved 479 front-line medical staff in Ningbo, China. The survey was conducted using an online questionnaire that included demographic data, investigation of COVID-19 history and job status. The Fatigue Assessment Scale, GAD-7 score and Sleep Quality Scale were used to collect data. RESULTS: The results showed that of the 479 participants, 393 (82%) reported pandemic fatigue, 393 (82%) reported job satisfaction and 433 (90.4%) identified with their sense of job value. Sleep quality, work with a fever, economic subsidies for fighting COVID-19 and recognizing professional value were significantly correlated with pandemic fatigue. CONCLUSIONS: As the COVID-19 pandemic challenges front-line medical workers, implementing measures is essential. Health policy implementers could provide sufficient front-line medical staff to ensure rest in case of infection, promote sleep quality and foster professional value and financial subsidies in units. RELEVANCE TO CLINICAL PRACTICE: The study shows how pandemic fatigue affects front-line medical staff during the COVID-19 pandemic and suggests measures to support them, including promoting sleep quality, providing rest for infected staff, fostering professional value and financial subsidies. The recommendations are relevant to clinical practice as they help support medical staff and ensure high-quality care for patients during the pandemic. ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: This study assessed the association between sleep duration, perceived organisational support (POS), personal resilience and anxiety among non-hospitalised residents during the COVID-19 pandemic in Ningbo, China. METHODS: In this cross-sectional study, an online survey was conducted from 27 January 2023 to 5 February 2023, involving non-hospitalised residents over 14 years old in Ningbo. We received 1938 valid responses. The study used the General Demographic Characteristics Scale, the Generalised Anxiety Disorder Scale, Brief Resilient Coping Scale and the POS questionnaire. RESULTS: Among the 1938 valid questionnaires, 1068 (55.1%) participants reported anxiety. Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that high organisational support (ß=-0.34, adjusted OR (aOR) 0.71, 95% CI 0.51 to 0.98, p=0.038), moderate resilience (ß=-0.26, aOR 0.77, 95% CI 0.63 to 0.95, p=0.013), high resilience (ß=-0.67, aOR 0.51, 95% CI 0.36 to 0.73, p<0.001) and sleep duration of ≥7 hours (ß=-1.00, aOR 0.37, 95% CI 0.28 to 0.49, p<0.001) were significantly associated with anxiety. Participant characteristics were not associated with anxiety. CONCLUSIONS: During the COVID-19 pandemic, organisational support, personal resilience and adequate sleep duration were associated with anxiety among non-hospitalised residents. These findings highlight the importance of increasing organisational support, implementing interventions that promote resilience and stress management, ensuring sufficient rest and sleep duration, and helping residents better manage anxiety.

ABSTRACT

The dentate gyrus (DG) of the hippocampus encodes contextual information associated with fear, and cell activity in the DG is required for acquisition and extinction of contextual fear. However, the underlying molecular mechanisms are not fully understood. Here we show that mice deficient for peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-α (PPARα) exhibited a slower rate of contextual fear extinction. Furthermore, selective deletion of PPARα in the DG attenuated, while activation of PPARα in the DG by local infusion of aspirin facilitated extinction of contextual fear. The intrinsic excitability of DG granule neurons was reduced by PPARα deficiency but increased by activation of PPARα with aspirin. Using RNA-Seq transcriptome we found that the transcription level of neuropeptide S receptor 1 (Npsr1) was tightly correlated with PPARα activation. Our results provide evidence that PPARα plays an important role in regulating DG neuronal excitability and contextual fear extinction.

ABSTRACT

Transistor scaling has become increasingly difficult in the dynamic random access memory (DRAM). However, vertical devices will be good candidates for 4F2 DRAM cell transistors (F = pitch/2). Most vertical devices are facing some technical challenges. For example, the gate length cannot be precisely controlled, and the gate and the source/drain of the device cannot be aligned. Recrystallization-based vertical C-shaped-channel nanosheet field-effect transistors (RC-VCNFETs) were fabricated. The critical process modules of the RC-VCNFETs were developed as well. The RC-VCNFET with a self-aligned gate structure has excellent device performance, and its subthreshold swing (SS) is 62.91 mV/dec. Drain-induced barrier lowering (DIBL) is 6.16 mV/V.

ABSTRACT

At sub-3 nm nodes, the scaling of lateral devices represented by a fin field-effect transistor (FinFET) and gate-all-around field effect transistors (GAAFET) faces increasing technical challenges. At the same time, the development of vertical devices in the three-dimensional direction has excellent potential for scaling. However, existing vertical devices face two technical challenges: "self-alignment of gate and channel" and "precise gate length control". A recrystallization-based vertical C-shaped-channel nanosheet field effect transistor (RC-VCNFET) was proposed, and related process modules were developed. The vertical nanosheet with an "exposed top" structure was successfully fabricated. Moreover, through physical characterization methods such as scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), conductive atomic force microscopy (C-AFM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM), the influencing factors of the crystal structure of the vertical nanosheet were analyzed. This lays the foundation for fabricating high-performance and low-cost RC-VCNFETs devices in the future.

ABSTRACT

A special Ge nanowire/nanosheet (NW/NS) p-type vertical sandwich gate-all-around (GAA) field-effect transistor (FET) (Ge NW/NS pVSAFET) with self-aligned high-κ metal gates (HKMGs) is proposed. The Ge pVSAFETs were fabricated by high-quality GeSi/Ge epitaxy, an exclusively developed self-limiting isotropic quasi atomic layer etching (qALE) of Ge selective to both GeSi and the (111) plane, top-drain implantation, and ozone postoxidation (OPO) channel passivation. The Ge pVSAFETs, which have hourglass-shaped (111) channels with the smallest size range from 5 to 20 nm formed by qALE, have reached a record high Ion of ∼291 µA/µm and exhibited good short channel effects (SCEs) control. The integration flow is compatible with mainstream CMOS processes, and Ge pVSAFETs with precise control of gate lengths/channel sizes were obtained.

ABSTRACT

Guidelines and recommendations from public health authorities related to face masks have been essential for containing the COVID-19 pandemic. A cross-sectional survey was conducted in Ningbo City, China, from April 8 to 12, 2022. We assessed the behavioral differences and correlates of mask usage, primarily mask-removal. We examined public mask-wearing behavior during on-site COVID-19 nucleic acid detection. The survey instrument was developed based on the guidelines issued by the World Health Organization and consisted of demographics, mask-wearing knowledge, and behavior. We analyzed data from 1180 participants; 73.2% demonstrated good mask-wearing knowledge. However, regarding mask-wearing behavior, only 53.7% knew the correct way to remove a mask; 70.3% maintained hand hygiene after touching the outside. Binary logistic regression analyses revealed that health prevention knowledge and free mask distribution were positively associated with two types of mask-wearing behaviors. Most participants used masks during the COVID-19 pandemic; however, mask-removal and hand hygiene were neglected when touching the outside of the mask. More attention must be paid to mask-removal and hand hygiene details. Local health authorities should consider introducing the free distribution of masks.

ABSTRACT

For the formation of nano-scale Ge channels in vertical Gate-all-around field-effect transistors (vGAAFETs), the selective isotropic etching of Ge selective to Ge0.8Si0.2 was considered. In this work, a dual-selective atomic layer etching (ALE), including Ge0.8Si0.2-selective etching of Ge and crystal-orientation selectivity of Ge oxidation, has been developed to control the etch rate and the size of the Ge nanowires. The ALE of Ge in p+-Ge0.8Si0.2/Ge stacks with 70% HNO3 as oxidizer and deionized (DI) water as oxide-removal was investigated in detail. The saturated relative etched amount per cycle (REPC) and selectivity at different HNO3 temperatures between Ge and p+-Ge0.8Si0.2 were obtained. In p+-Ge0.8Si0.2/Ge stacks with (110) sidewalls, the REPC of Ge was 3.1 nm and the saturated etching selectivity was 6.5 at HNO3 temperature of 20 °C. The etch rate and the selectivity were affected by HNO3 temperatures. As the HNO3 temperature decreased to 10 °C, the REPC of Ge was decreased to 2 nm and the selectivity remained at about 7.4. Finally, the application of ALE in the formation of Ge nanowires in vGAAFETs was demonstrated where the preliminary Id-Vds output characteristic curves of Ge vGAAFET were provided.

ABSTRACT

Gate-all-around (GAA) field-effect transistors have been proposed as one of the most important developments for CMOS logic devices at the 3 nm technology node and beyond. Isotropic etching of silicon-germanium (SiGe) for the definition of nano-scale channels in vertical GAA CMOS and tunneling FETs has attracted more and more attention. In this work, the effect of doping on the digital etching of Si-selective SiGe with alternative nitric acids (HNO3) and buffered oxide etching (BOE) was investigated in detail. It was found that the HNO3 digital etching of SiGe was selective to n+-Si, p+-Si, and intrinsic Si. Extensive studies were performed. It turned out that the selectivity of SiGe/Si was dependent on the doped types of silicon and the HNO3 concentration. As a result, at 31.5% HNO3 concentration, the relative etched amount per cycle (REPC) and the etching selectivity of Si0.72Ge0.28 for n+-Si was identical to that for p+-Si. This is particularly important for applications of vertical GAA CMOS and tunneling FETs, which have to expose both the n+ and p+ sources/drains at the same time. In addition, the values of the REPC and selectivity were obtained. A controllable etching rate and atomically smooth surface could be achieved, which enhanced carrier mobility.

ABSTRACT

Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection remains an important public health problem in China, and adults need to be vaccinated. This systematic review and meta-analysis assessed the appropriate immunization of adults in China. Only randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were eligible, and seroprotection was defined as anti-HBs≥ 10 mIU/ml; 18,308 participants in 27 studies were included. Relative risk (RR) and random effects models were used. Twenty micrograms of HBV vaccine resulted in a better response than 10 µg (RR: 1.05, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.02 to 1.08), and the 0-, 1-, and 6-month schedule was more effective than the 0-, 1-, and 2 - or 3-month schedule (RR: 0.98, 95% CI: 0.96 to 1.00). No significant differences were observed between 10 µg and 5 µg (RR: 1.05, 95% CI: 0.88 to 1.01); (yeast-derived hepatitis B vaccines) YDV and recombinant Chinese hamster ovary cell (CHO) hepatitis B vaccine (RR: 1.01, 95% CI: 0.98 to 1.04); domestic and imported (RR: 1.02, 95% CI: 0.99 to 1.05); or 0-, 1-, and 6-month and 0-, 1-, and 12-month schedules (RR: 1.02, 95% CI: 0.89 to 1.08). In conclusion, 20 µg of vaccine is recommended for adults in China, and the 0-, 1-, and 12-month immunization program schedule is also worth choosing when it is not possible to complete the 0-, 1-, and 6-month schedule.

ABSTRACT

The aim of this study was to evaluate changes in hepatitis B surface antibody titers (anti-HBs) after booster vaccinations in children aged 5-15 y and to provide suitable immunization strategies. A total of 2208 children were initially enrolled in screening, and 559 children were finally included. The participants were divided into 2 groups according to their pre-booster anti-HBs levels: Group I, <10 mIU/ml and Group II, ≥10 mIU/ml. Group I was administered 3 doses of booster hepatitis B vaccine (0-1-6 months, 10 µg), and Group II was administered 1 dose of booster hepatitis B vaccine (10 µg). The antibody titer changes were examined at 4 time points: 1 month after dose 1 and dose 3, and 1 year and 5 years after dose 3. The protective seroconversion rates at those points were 95.65%, 99.67%, 97.59% and 91.05% (p < 0.001), respectively, in Group I, and 100.00%, 99.87%, 99.66% and 98.21% (χ2 = 6.04, p = 0.11), respectively, in Group II. The GMT in subjects aged 5-9 y were higher than that in subjects aged 10-15 y in both Group I and Group II at 1 month after dose 1, but no difference was observed at the other three time points. This study demonstrates that booster vaccination has a good medium-term effect. A booster dose for subjects with protective antibodies is not necessary but effective, and 3 doses of hepatitis B vaccination are recommended for those who have lost immunological memory. Receiving booster immunization at the age of 10-15 years may be more appropriate for individuals living in HBV high epidemic areas.

ABSTRACT

This study was aimed at evaluating the changes of hepatitis B surface antibody (anti-HBs) titer after booster vaccinations in 5-15-year-old children with negative antibodies (<10 mIU/mL). 225 subjects (mean age, 9.28 ± 2.95 years) included in the study consisted of 123 males and 102 females, with a complete hepatitis B vaccination during infancy. The participants were divided into 3 groups according to their pre-booster anti-HBs level: Group I, <0.1 mIU/mL; Group II, 0.1 to <1.0 mIU/mL; Group III, 1.0 to <10.0 mIU/mL. All the participants were administered 3 doses of booster hepatitis B vaccination (0-1-6 month, 20 µg), and changes in the levels of antibodies were examined at 4 time-points (one month after the first and the third dose, one year and 5 years after the third dose). The seroprotective rate (defined as anti-HBs ≥10.0 mIU/mL) among 225 subjects at the 4 time-points were 93.8%, 100%, 83.6% and 73.4%, respectively (χ2 = 90.29, p < 0.05). The seroprotective rate (≥10 mIU/mL) and anti-HBs geometric mean titer (GMT) in Group III were always higher than those in the other 2 groups (all p < 0.05). The immune effect of a 3 -dose booster revaccination is good, and the booster-induced immune response was correlated with the pre-booster titer level, and ≥1.0 mIU/mL ensuring a robust positive response, whereas titers below this value may indicate the need for a course of booster vaccination.
